I would like to know about the options for single parents looking to have kids in OBT 👀

Malachi: I'm glad you asked! The usual method is to get an item simply called an Aura Incubator. It's a sort of nesting box thing that you take into your choice of mystery dungeon, and then you can sync your aura with the dungeon rather than another partner! The eggs that result from it will always be the same species as the pokemon parent, but they might get hybrid traits that come from the pokemon that live in a dungeon. The dungeon sort of holds onto passive aura that comes off of pokemon and absorbs it into its ley line structure, which I guess gives it its own aura! So Dielle was on the right track when she said the environment can act as a parent sometimes.

Of course, adoption is always an option, too! Or just pairing up with someone platonically to create an egg. Those methods are a bit easier since you can communicate directly with other parties for what you want, it's a bit hard to synchronize egg efforts with a dungeon.

But yea, Austin will prob be working most of this year since I think "Caught Stealing" is also filming in the fall this year. 😊 He didn't do any filming work last year, so he's had a nice break, I think?

I haven't watched "Palm Royale", so I can't speak on her acting on the show lol... But she's the not first (and certainly won't be the last 👀) actor to land roles even though their acting skills are questionable at best lol 😅

You've never seen a Tibetan Mastiff. They used to guard monasteries. They worked in teams with Tibetan Terriers which are natural tattletails. The Terriers would walk around the outside and if there was anyone shady around, they'd go get the big dog. This is them as a puppy.

There's another dog that was bred to hunt bears. Caucasian Shepherd. I could see him having one of those. A picture for scale is linked below.

ANYWAY, I think Meian would absolutely have a tarantula. Almost definitely. If I had to guess, he'd have either a venomous one or one that looks scary but isn't dangerous. For a venomous one, probably an OBT. The Orange Baboon Tarantula, otherwise known as "The Orange Bitey Thing" because they aren't handleable. If we're going non-venomous then I'm inclined to say Brazilian Black. Those tend to be be the most docile and are actually known for their temperament.

For snakes he's almost definitely gotta have at Euprepiophis conspicillata or a Japanese Forest Rat Snake. The colors are gorgeous for one but also they're a native snake in Japan.

Do borrowers exist in the once bitten au? Because a good chunk of vampires would be taller than borrowers and that would be terrifying.

Oooooh that's a good question 👀

I'm going to say probably not, or if they do there aren't any that would interact with the main cast of this au. I usually only write with one type of giant or tiny at a time (maybe I should change that up in the future though!)

But! The idea is really fun. Because you're right, unless they're fledglings, most vampires would be taller than borrowers. And while the obts vampires aren't that scary because they're too small to actually hurt humans... They would definitely be scary to borrowers.

If borrowers did exist, I think that their blood is different enough that the vampires don't drink it. Otherwise being around a vampire (especially a very young or very hungry one) would be genuinely dangerous.

While vampires are intelligent and sentient, they're also still somewhat controlled by their instincts. When they smell human blood, unless they have good control of their instincts, they can go a little bit wild. If that happened with a borrower, then it's possible the vampire might accidentally kill them.

It's probably better that either borrowers don't exist in the obts universe, or if they do, their blood isn't something the vampires can drink. And because they're both trying to stay hidden, vampires and borrowers usually avoid houses with each other. Just too risky.

What's the fic 👀

ugh. i'm not going to namedrop the fic on anon. but i can tell you some gripes i had with it that lead to me not liking it:

the characters mention the central twist of the game in conversation, which i think is a fascinating angle to take a fic in. unfortunately they just bring it up the once and it is literally never addressed again despite this fic including character death as a major aspect of it. and i would think that knowing that none of this is real and you're dolls in a sandbox would change how you view things like death.

the characters have anal sex without lube. okay, not all that strange for a fanfic, except that immediately after the sex scene one of them mentions having lube with them. so what was the fucking point of them having sex without lube? either don't bring up the lube or edit your sex scene so they use it. that's just fucking asinine.

not sure if this kickstarted the herb bride!daniil thing or not, but considering its age it probably contributed to its popularity and there are, you know, issues with taking a sacred indigenous role and plopping it onto the (racist) white dude love interest. not to mention that's not how the role of herb bride works in canon and several people just outright get this wrong in their fics.

speaking of things breaking canon: it breaks the extremely well-established and explicitly stated canon that the polyhedron does not work on adults. which, even if i'd liked the fic, would have completely ruined it for me. i don't expect everyone to have every detail of the game memorized and there are going to be times when people forget bits and pieces of canon or ignore them because they don't like them, but the happy ending hinged on something that is, like, central to daniil's route.

there's a recap chapter.

i didn't think the characterization was all that good. it was another one of those fics where artemy just seems to kind of exist to be daniil's love interest, despite the story predominantly being (from what i can remember, and granted it has been about a year since i read it) from his perspective. this is a problem with a lot of fic, people are just sort of fascinated with daniil and seem to decide to use artemy as a lens through which to view him. but i've read fic more recently which is a, much more up front about doing this and b, still gives artemy his own characterization through which he interacts with daniil (and others). but there's a point in this fic where artemy is getting ready to destroy the entire town just to keep daniil alive. which is just such a disservice to his character, imo, especially if you're not even going to bring up the fact that artemy's ending was about saving the town. and i didn't really feel a connection or relationship between the two that the author clearly wanted us to feel.

there's also a weird thing toward the end of the fic where artemy hatemarries a character for no apparent reason and has a kid with her and he hates this kid but also this kid reminds him of daniil? it's just. bizarre.

my problem overall with this fic isn't necessarily that it's not good. i wasn't nearly as impressed with it as everyone else seems to be. some of the prose here and there was nice, but overall it was just kind of mediocre. my problem is that people treat this fic like the notre dame of the fanbase, giving it a level of reverence it doesn't deserve. and then this adoration of this fic bleeds into how people treat both source material and fanon. which is why i am just begging people to read better fanfic. like we have obt and alaiw and more recently this fic are all much better than what i just described. like i'm not going to say i 100% agree with everything every author of every fic i rec writes, but they're just. much more enjoyable imo.

Haven't shared yet! Here's my new little guys! Efram (OBT), a freebie I got who I have yet to name (n. chromatus) Leon Slut Kennedy and Claire (pumpkin patches), and Malice (g. pulchra). The pumpkin patches and n. chromatus are so stinkin' tiny and cute, they're enjoying some cricket legs rn. They are so small in fact that I had to improvise some smaller containers bc the air holes on the enclosures I made them were too big 👀

Inigo: All pokemon can mega evolve once they're fully evolved, but it's not super common since mega stones are expensive.
