Teicher Möwe 13S-J - "Fokker's Forgotten Fleet-Killers"
Role: Seaplane Fighter Served With: Fokker Kingdoms First Flight: 1595 Strengths: Extremely Tough Weaknesses: Underpowered Engine Inspiration: Hansa-Brandenburg W.11/W.12
Description:
Observation was considered a niche use for seaplanes during early Fokker campaigns. They were mostly seen as a means of maintaining scout coverage during the strategic flooding of the Dorand Lowlands. Little thought was paid to the performance of two-seaters.
This changed as the war went north, especially once confronted with Macchi’s bizarre ‘Seeheer’ and its carriers, gunships, and u-boats. The Teicher Möwe 13S was designed in response with high endurance, forward and rear guns, robust steel construction, and a bombload. In theory, it could attack fleets far out to sea.
A good theory, but unfortunately, the plane had a series of cutting-edge engines stolen from under it for other projects. The Möwe was left underpowered and overweight, rotting as trainers in fischer villages. But it has potential…

1918 02 15 Hansa Brandeburg W12 Christiansen 4th victory - Mark Postlethwaite
repost better quality and lighting
Oberleutnant zur See Friedrich Christiansen was leading a three-aeroplane patrol of Hansa-Brandenburg W 12 fighter seaplanes from Zeebrugge naval station on 15 February 1918 when, at 1045 hrs, they sighted a large Allied convoy being escorted by two Felixstowe-based Curtiss H-12B Large America flying boats. The latter both fled, but upon being overtaken at 1100 hrs, one of them made a fight of it until the flying boat was shot down in flames from an altitude of 200 metres near Nord Hinder lightship. Heavy seas prevented the Germans from landing near the wreckage, which turned out to be H-12B N4338. The flying boat's crew, Canadian Fit Lt Claude C Purdy, Ens Albert D Sturtevant, Boy Mech Arthur Hector Stephenson and AMI Sidney James Hollidge, perished. Christiansen and his observer shared the victory with Flgobermt Urban and Ltn z S Ehrhard. Albert Dillon Sturtevant, an officer of the US Naval Reserve, was among the 29 members of the First Yale Unit that had been attached to Royal Naval Air Station Felixstowe since October 1917. The first American of any military branch to die in aerial combat in his own country's service during World War 1, Sturtevant was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross and a US Navy destroyer was later named in his honour

Chainbreaker
Wow...... I haven't written anything outside of a crapton of Worldbuilding in a hot minute. So, uhh, this was my idea of a short, simple-for-me blurb to put out, though at this rate it'll be a two-parter at the least. I'd love to hear if anyone has any thoughts / feedback on the writing!
Tagging, if it's alright, @lividdreamz @caxycreations @thatndginger @hessdalen-globe @muddshadow @dogmomwrites @marinesocks @theprissythumbelina @the-stray-storyteller @wip-nook @writeblrsupport
The harsh, burning odours of saltwater and leaking lubricating oil were by now more familiar to Leading Aviator Aisha Javed's nose than the smell of the flowers back home, an alien concept to herself and the merry crew of naval aviators she had taken to calling her family over the past six months. Hunched over a small table plastered with charts opposite her fellow navigator, Naval Aviator 1st Class Clarke Oswell, she held an ink pen in one hand and a stopwatch in the other. The tools of their trade, and the schoolgirl who played cricket and pruned the family garden wouldn't have recognised a thing.
"Time for a course correction, Clark? Going by airspeed, we'd made about fifty naut-miles since the last waypoint."
The sky was utterly, entirely black, with neither a moon nor stars making it past thick clouds, and for that reason they hadn't bothered with the sextants or other fine tools of celestial observation that usually held as much use in the air as on the waves. Instead, and much to Lieutenant Commander Stephan Muller's deep displeasure, the sixteen-tonne, gull-winged Auxin Albatross flying boat was obliged to stick far closer to the coast, and any land based onlookers, than the plan had called for at first just to give them a chance of navigating.
Clark stood up only halfway, stretching legs that had been pressed in tight by the small cabin as much as by his lanky frame, by an aviator's standards. He slid open a small window which let in the loud whoosh of the wind, craning his neck out the slot and peering tightly through a set of binoculars into the night.
"Alright. I think I've got some lights out there, and a set of cliffs. That'll be, uhh... Samakra?"
They'd passed by the quaint little fishing village half a dozen times in the past month alone. Almost enough times to make you forget that the people down there were the enemy.
"Samkara, but yes, should be it. Marking it on the plot, I think we're due for the last course change in, say, half an hour. Two degrees shift north, we'll do another check before that..."
Watching with excruciating exactness every contour of that wind- and wave-battered coastline of stoic rock, her and Clarke had their work cut out for them, but they were professionals.
So were the enemy, and Aisha knew that Muller was damn near certain that every second that brought them and his long beloved "Staghound Sturdy" closer to their final checkpoint was bringing them closer to a Fuhrati fighter patrol, or a battery of undiscovered coastal ack-ack guns. They wouldn't have long to regret such a thing at any rate, joked the copilot, Sub-Lieutenant Enver Atay, currently up in the cockpit with Stephan, so there wasn't much reason to bother with worrying about it. Of course, he'd also grabbed a second life vest before they left base.
Even though the cockpit was barely a few metres away, the roaring racket of the seaplane's twin engines mounted in tandem with two extra Aero-crystals to drag their heavy bird through the air meant that all shouting did was break your voice. Aisha picked up a handheld speaker-receiver set, and hailed the cockpit directly.
"Skipper, this is nav'. We're rounding Point Sylod in thirty minutes by our reckoning, advise maintaining current heading 'til then, Clear."
"Clear On, Aisha. Keep cosy, you two, but warm up the Wireless. Don't want it on the rocks again when we get there."

“Get off me!” cried Ronald and with a strength borne of desperation and panic, he hurled the girl sleuth off him. Nancy found herself skidding along the deck of the yacht and crashing into the side the of the craft. Pain shot up her knee and the detective turned anxiously to see the slim tee shirted young man standing at the bow of the yacht frantically waving at a sea plane as it bounced unsteadily just above the choppy waters. Nancy realised this was Ronnie’s sinister employers, arriving on cue to pick him up. “Oh no you don’t!” the titian haired young woman called out to him. Ronnie instinctively turned momentarily at her voice, just as the girl hurled herself at him. Down the two tumbled onto the deck, rolling together as much from their own momentum as from the rocking of the unsteered yacht. Ronnie was frantic, but not strong and Nancy was fit and determined. The man struggled furiously, but Nancy was able to remain on top of him, holding his flailing wrists with each hand and preventing him from getting leverage to either throw her off again or to regain his feet.
The young detective glanced up as she fought the young smuggler. The seaplane continued to bob towards the yacht uncertainly. Almost sobbing, Ronnie’s voice turned into a begging whine. “They will only wait one minute!” he cried. “Please, miss - I can’t go to jail!” But Nancy grimly pressed the young man’s wrists to the deck and at last managed to sit astride him. Both man and woman paused their struggle and gazed at the seaplane, desperate for different outcomes. The plane was so close, Nancy could see the eyes of the pilot. She saw his expression slowly turn from concentration to resignation as he observed the scene on the yacht deck. Then he suddenly lifted the plane away from the lapping waves and back into the sky. A faint moan of utter despair escaped from the young man’s lips as he watched his one hope of salvation disappear and he fell back on the deck, no longer resisting the girl. Nancy settled herself more comfortably astride her captive but kept his wrists firmly pressed to the surface. When the plane was no more than a distant dot in the sky, she finally relaxed. She looked down at the collapsed Ronnie, whose eyes were now closed - a picture of anguished defeat. “I’m going to tie you up now, my friend,” the girl detective told him sternly, “and then I’ll pilot this thing back to shore where you can answer to the coast guard.” As she reached for a coil of deck rope before flipping Ronnie onto his front in order to bind his hands behind his back, she realised the captured young smuggler was lost in his misery and not even listening to her anymore.
My interpretation of the story behind this cover to Froken Detektiv: Og Marmorstotten, which translates from the Norwegian as The Marble Pillar, or in the English language version, The Whispering Statue.

The Unique Ecosystem of Isle Royale National Park
Tucked away in the cold waters of Lake Superior, Isle Royale National Park is unlike any other place on Earth. This remote island, one of the least visited national parks in the U.S., offers visitors a glimpse into a unique, self-contained world that’s all about balance and resilience.
What makes Isle Royale so special? For one, it’s home to an isolated population of wolves and moose, whose survival and relationship over the decades have become one of the most fascinating ecological studies ever undertaken. With no permanent human residents, the island is a perfect natural laboratory for observing predator-prey dynamics in their purest form. Over the years, scientists have studied how these populations rise and fall, influenced by factors like disease, weather, and genetic diversity—or the lack thereof. This has led to a complex yet fragile balance between wolves, who rely on the moose for food, and moose, who thrive on the island’s dense vegetation.
Beyond the iconic wolf and moose, Isle Royale hosts a tapestry of unique species adapted to its rugged terrain, frigid winters, and the mysterious waters that surround it. From its diverse plant life, including towering balsam firs and vibrant wildflowers, to its lesser-known inhabitants like beavers and foxes, the island is a haven for creatures who have carved out a life in one of the harshest climates in the continental U.S.
Visiting Isle Royale is a rare adventure—one that requires dedication, a boat or seaplane, and an appreciation for solitude. But for those who venture here, Isle Royale offers a deep connection to the raw beauty of nature and the delicate balance that sustains life.
