FFXV: Fate, Hope & Sacrifice

After reading this post by @queenoffishingandcookies, I was inspired to write this impromptu meta to examine Regis' perspective on Noctis' fate more deeply which resulted in considering others as well, leading me to realize that, in a story defined by sacrifice, all the most notable deaths: Regis, Nyx, Luna and Noctis, operate without knowing all the details of the other's fates or what would ultimately happen to each other - which only adds to the inherent tragedy as they all possess hope for outcomes that cannot be.

Early on, Final Fantasy XV becomes a story punctuated by a series of sacrifices building off each other and being passed down like a baton in a relay race in an effort to aid Noctis and ultimately give the world a future, with every death before the young king paving the way to his own. It's not a coincidence, for example, that the illusions of Regis, Luna and Nyx's bodies are the main ones displayed by Ardyn in the throne room at the end to try and emotionally assault Noctis (and the audience) with the painful reminder of the lives who were sacrificed for him to reach that pivotal moment.

NYX

Nyx is a loyal man dedicated to serve his king and doesn't hesitate to sacrifice his life in service of a greater good. Put in a difficult situation, he puts on the Ring of the Lucii and agrees to his own demise for the chance to help safeguard the future by giving Luna the opportunity to help Noctis, who he was initially angered to learn Regis was protecting above all else. As he dies, he voices his desire for Noctis to rule well, assuming that he will eventually become king and Luna would naturally become his queen and rule by his side - a pretty nice future and one that Libertus confirms he's rooting for as well. Though his sacrifice wasn't in vain, Nyx had no idea that that wouldn't actually happen and that both would one day perish instead.

Sharing the same desire to secure a future for the world (and a name meaning as well), Nyx feels like a predecessor of sorts whose own death serves to parallel Noctis' eventual demise as they both must wield the Ring to succeed, which mars their flesh and leaves their bodies to disintegrate into nothing as/before dawn breaks.

LUNA

Luna is knowledgeable of and dedicated to her role as the Oracle and her fated task to help Noctis become the King of Light for most of her life, providing him more help and wisdom than any. Unfortunately, she secretly knew she was going to die as a result of the covenants she had to forge for him and had to accept the sad reality that she would never get to marry and live her life with him like she so desperately wanted, though she probably comforted herself with the hope that, at least, he would get to live a long life and help restore the world.

As further confirmed in the novel, Dawn of the Future, Luna had no idea that Noctis would have to die to complete his calling and was devastated upon seeing a vision of Noctis' impending sacrifice and that her actions in giving him the Ring would ultimately result in the death of the man she loves. Though she seeks to stop it from happening in that reality, in the canon story she'd be forced to watch helplessly as it all unfolds and continue to help him reach that tragic conclusion no matter how much it breaks her heart.

REGIS

Though a great king to his people, Regis is driven above all else to protect Noctis and grant him as much opportunity for happiness as possible before his unjust demise. Like Luna knew of her impending death, Regis seems to suspect that he's going to die in the attack and lets it happen without much of a fight, putting his final hope in Nyx to protect Luna and, in turn, aid his son. Right before his death, when Regis states that he wishes Noctis and Luna a happy life together, I always wondered if he knew it wasn't actually going to happen but, as a loving father would, still dreamed for it anyway and wanted to voice his heart's desire to Luna as his parting words to her or if he genuinely believed it was possible.

We know that Regis learned that Noctis would eventually have to be sacrificed when he's five years old, but I was unsure if he was simply told it would happen sometime in the future and therefore had no idea when or shown through a vision and could therefore estimate based on seeing Noctis' aged appearance as suggested by the OP. I don't know if that's confirmed but, even if not, I think it's likely that he could have seen it given the fact that - in the DLC/Dawn of the Future anyway - Ignis, Ardyn, Luna and Noctis himself all see a vision of his death on the throne, so if they got a chance to witness it beforehand, I imagine Regis probably could have as well as someone with direct access to the Crystal. Also, if the Omen trailer is meant to act as a depiction of a potential future Regis sees and seeks to avoid, then it seems like confirmation that he received other visions as well.

As I wrote in my meta breaking down Noctis' appearance, he looks arguably a bit older than a 30-year-old after the time skip given the immense power he's been granted so, if Regis did see him in a vision, he may even assume he could be mid 30s or older and would get the chance to live all those years. With this hope in mind, Regis may believe that his son would at least get to enjoy some period of relative happiness with Luna (as he doesn't know she's actually going to die soon) and hoped they'd marry and even potentially have a child and continue the Lucis line (Regis had Noctis when he was 30 after all). He had no way of knowing that none of those things would happen and that Noctis would have to enter the Crystal, lose ten years of his life and die without experiencing the joy of marriage or children like he was able to.

NOCTIS

Noctis, of course, was largely left in the dark for most of his life and never could have imagined the tragic events that would unfold after leaving home to get married. He had no idea Insomnia would be attacked and his father would die. He had no idea that Luna would perish as a result of her duty to him. He had no idea of Ardyn's true identity or intentions. He had no idea that saving the world would require him to sacrifice his own life until entering the Crystal and having a decade stripped from him - an event that recontextualized his dubious regard of his father's previous choices and his feelings about his own demise in relation to other sacrifices, most notably Luna's, which gives him the determination to go through with it as well and ensure no one who died for him did so in vain. His experience wrestling with the reality of his fate and an untimely demise is one shared by those before him to some degree and one he must accept wholeheartedly as well. I think it's harder to know what Noctis originally expected to happen before learning what was meant to. Even if he succeeded in defeating Ardyn, he'd have to face a future without his father or Luna, whom he genuinely hoped to be with, though his friends would certainly continue to be great support and comfort, and we do get a taste of this potential reality at the end of Episode Ignis. Naturally, Noctis probably considered the potential repercussions should he fail, which would have left the entire world in perpetual darkness and despair ruled by Ardyn with no hope of change - a prospect that would no doubt further fuel his resolve to succeed no matter what. It all comes down to him now and he can't fail.

IGNIS

Though it doesn't cost him his life, I want to quickly touch on Ignis who sacrifices his eyesight upon using the Ring (and idea borne in remembrance of Nyx's actions) in an attempt to protect Noctis and even seeks to save him from his fate after seeing a vision of him on the throne in Episode Ignis. To try and keep him safe, Ignis suggests they end their journey, but Noctis refutes that he can't let any sacrifice at his expense be made in vain and Ignis has no choice but to accept Noctis' decision, knowing more than he does where this path truly leads - similar to Regis before he died.

CONCLUSION

Though the path of their lives was skewed by fates they could not control, all remained driven by their love for each other and others and ultimately succeeded in what they set out to do and achieved a semblance of what they had hoped for: Nyx succeeded in helping Luna and therefore Noctis, who was able to provide a future for the world even if he didn't get to rule it. Regis didn't get to see Noctis and Luna wed in life like he desperately hoped for, but he's comforted by their matrimonial union in death and that his son was able to experience some happiness in life - his success filling him with pride. Luna succeeded in aiding Noctis and, though she didn't get to spend her life with him like she dreamed, they're able to be together forever in the afterlife. Noctis didn't get to live the life he expected but succeeded in saving the world like everyone before him hoped and sacrificed for and gets to rest by his beloved's side forevermore. Even Ardyn himself is able to find peace after centuries of suffering - all fates resulting in a bittersweet conclusion to an inherently tragic tale.

FFXV Writing Prompt

Somnus was cursed to die at the age of 20, his soul trapped in a crystal as a summoner. He married young and had children young to continue his lineage, under order of his father. Unfortunately for his father, Somnus fell in love with a Galahdian man, the son of the Chief who united the Galahd Tribe, and married him (writer decides how they had children with Somnus's blood - adoption with blood ritual, intersex Somnus, secondary gender, IVF, surrogate, etc.). He left his family name and became an Ulric, uniting the two nations into an Alliance through marriage. Somnus's summoner crystal became a family heirloom, passed down the generations as a necklace and closely guarded as a secret. Regina Ulric became the next bearer of the necklace, the only one able to summon "The Cursed Mystic" in generations, at a young age too, her nephew Nyx later proves himself able to do the same.

Ardyn was never able to find a way to break the curse. Ardyn is known as the Healer King who lost his mind, monikered the Mad King in later years. Aera returned to Tenebrae in those years, helping her sister build the kingdom there, while the Mad King's children took down their father to save himself and the people, inheriting the throne. They've worked hard to build a kingdom which can function even when a ruler loses their mind just in case their father's illness (the Starscourge) is inherited/genetic. The Ulrics have been praying to the Galahdian Gods like crazy for centuries that a, the Starscourge inside of Ardyn isn't genetic so that the Caelums don't have to be usurped for the terrible monster-turning illness and b, that the Caelums never find out about the Ulric's relation to them and thus drag them kicking and screaming back to their distant Caelum Ancestor's home (the Ulrics do not want to deal with the Crystal bullshit or Ardyn's ghost finding out about the Cursed Mystic summon).

16 year old Regina Ulric stares horrified as the Wall gets retracted while her father and fellow Galahdians curse up a storm and rush to finish fortifications. Her father and her both know they may be forced to put up their own Wall, using their inherited Draconian and Ramuh's Blessing (from Caelum bloodline and Ulric bloodline) and possibly drawing the Caelum's attention to them.

Little Nyx's fingers curl into her skirt, staring up at the sky, scared. A hand unconsciously grasps Nyx as Regina swallows.

"Nyx, remember the tunnels I showed you?" She feels his little nod. "Take your sister and whoever, whatever, else you can grab and go there."

"But - "

"Go! I'll be right behind you, I promise." She pushes him to the house. After hesitating and her firmly jerking her head to the clan compound, he runs.

Fire Priest!Ignis: five times somebody was surprised by Ignis knowing something random and unexpected, and the one time somebody figured it out.

(Bonus points if the person who figures it out is not Ardyn)

Ardyn figured it out within 3 seconds of meeting Ignis. He doesn't count. (He sits back and enjoys the show)

The first is when Ignis warns Gladio of when Iris's sickness will be flaring up again. Gladio doesn't really believe it. But then it happens. He really wants to ask Ignis how the fuck he knew that, but forgets to do it over caring for his sister.

The second would be when he tells a random stranger where he might find his mother's testament. The stranger is weirded out, Ignis is wondering why he told the guy that. Turns out he's right, though. It also turns out that the guy it Petra Fortis from the City Watch. So now Petra ows Ignis a big one :D

Third is when Ignis tells Cor that Gilgamesh is a hypocritic piece of shit and should not be trusted. He also gratulates Cor for cutting the man's/ghost's arm off. Cor is weirded out, becaus he never told the kids what exactly happened in Taelpar Crag. Before he can ask how exactly Ignis knows about this, he vanishes (and goes to track down Noctis in Deep City for the first time).

On his way down he meets Nyx. He tells him to talk to Petra. Nyx really doesn't want to do that. Ignis just tells him to say that Ignis sent him and to take him to one of the old cellars which were dug into the cliff Insmonia is build around. To incentivice Nyx, Ignis also tells him that he very much looks like his father Ilias. Nyx turns around at once and goes to track down Petra. He's convinced Ignis either got possessed by a Galahkari spirit, or is like the Wise One. Either way, he listens, and lo and behold, in that one wine cellar they find some very interesting documents and some stolen cultural objects.

Fifth is when he is looking after Solaris and Astra and starts to tell them stories about their ancestors. Stories no one should know about. Not that the kids know that. They're just happy about New Stories.

Noctis figures it out when one day, Ignis randomly drags him out of his clinic because 'it's time now'. He brings him to the grave of two Lucis Caelums which were buried close to the old palace. The first was Mendax Lucis Caelum II, titled The True (he's Somnus's son), and the second Atalanta Lucis Caelum, mother to Ardyn and Somnus. Noctis wonders why he didn't figure it out earlier. It's very obvious in hindsight.

Over millennia there'd been many visitors to the lands of Eos, though those visits were brief and discreet. The public did not know of other worlds besides Eos. Until ten years ago, when the world of Thaos and its largest kingdom, Ikkaros, made permanent contact with the Kingdom of Lucis, offering goods in exchange for materials harvested from Lucian soil. It was because of them that Lucis had the supplies necessary to keep the empire of Niflheim at bay as they encroached on the crown city and its crystal. But little did they know, Ikkaros had schemes of its own. It all began with an offer of the hand of their princess, the fifth in line, as a way of bonding their nations and a promise to keep the empire at bay, but there was an ulterior motive. They needed to rid themselves of a troublesome princess, and they knew how to keep her silent. Regis has his own suspicions of the mysterious kingdom's motives, and thus, with his son already promised to Lunafreya, he chose Noctis's royal advisor in his place to keep an eye out for anything suspicious with the princess.

When Noctis returns home in the dead of night, Aulea is waiting for him. She waits in the courtyard as the airship touches down, waits as the hatch opens and she catches sight of Nyx, of Noctis hobbling down the ramp, and then she waits no longer.

She gathers up her skirts in both hands and runs to her son. It doesn't matter that he's already got three inches on her, he's still her baby, and she takes him into her arms with only the bustle of cloth and a soft sound of surprise from him to speak of her speed.

But then he reaches up with both arms and he clings to her, back bent and legs giving out. She carries them both to the ground, her skirts billowing in the grass, and doesn't care when he starts to sob into her shoulder. She rubs his back, cards her fingers through his hair, and hums a lullaby beneath her breath. He clings tighter still, and she looks up at Nyx when Ardyn does not step up behind the boy he has taken such a shine to. Nyx shakes his head, hands clasped at the small of his back.

"Chancellor Izunia passed away this morning, Majesty," Nyx says softly. Noctis' arms tighten around her. "In the light of the morning sun."

It is done, then. Aulea nods her understanding, then presses a kiss to Noctis' temple. He smells of smoke, of death. His shoulders tremble, his weight leans far too heavily against her for him to be entirely unharmed, but he lives. She looks up at the stars, tears welling in her eyes, and thanks all who listen for that.

She holds her son and lets him cry, heaving sobs that speak of grief she understands far too well. She lets him grieve for as long as he needs, and only when he moves does she pull away to look at his face, his red-lined eyes. He does not look at her, but rather at the ground between them.

"How do you..." He asks her quietly, hands clutching at hers. "How do you move on after you...after..."

He can't finish. Aulea swallows the urge to scoop him into her arms once more. Instead, she tightens her grip on his hands.

"It takes time," She says softly, "But..." To live well is a blessing, she swallows back. Ardyn had been his own brand of oddity, but he had stayed. He had helped her son in ways she would never have been able to. It is because of him that Lucis still stands, even if tensions remain, and it because of him that Noctis has come home. She squeezes his hands until he looks at her with soft blue-grey eyes.

"Never let anyone tell you how much time is enough, Noctis. Not even me. Even I do not get a say in how long this will take."

He makes a sound not unlike a snort and finally squeezes her hands in return.

"Guess you're not queen of everything, huh?"

She scrunches up her nose at him.

"I'm still queen of your bedtime, young man," She begins to stand, and though her back aches, she pulls him with her. Nyx finally steps off the airship. "Now come along--he wouldn't want you mourning him in the grass."

"No," Noctis says with something fond in his eyes as they walk to the bright light of the Citadel's halls together, "He'd want us to get extremely drunk instead."

Drink until dawn and damn the consequences...oh, she's too old for that anymore. But at the least the sun will still rise tomorrow, so perhaps...

"Perhaps a toast instead," She smiles a little. "To a good man indeed."

(In the years that followed the passing of Chancellor Izunia of Lucis, Niflheim would come under fire from within. Led by a young mercenary and her merry band, the reigning giants would be toppled. The new Empress Aranea Highwind would be quick to extend hands of reparation, first to Tenebrae, whose surviving people would return to crown Ravus Nox Fleuret their first King, and then to Lucis. Her lands would be returned to the Queen, and though it would take years, Aranea swore to undo the damage her nation had caused.

When it was all done, when the MTs had been laid to rest and reparations enacted, Aranea undid the Empire and returned it to her people, establishing a democracy.

"People should rule people," she would say when Aulea asked her once, at the former Empress' engagement party to Ignis after years of working together to fix the damage Iedolas had caused, "And I make a lousy Empress anyway. Too used to skewering things."

Nine years later, Aulea would step down from her throne as Queen of Lucis. She would crown her son the reigning King of Lucis, and take her place in the history of the great nation as one who had outwitted Gods and mortals alike. Her portrait would hang upon the walls of the Citadel, nestled between her husband and son. Her last decree, passed into law by King Noctis Lucis Caelum CXV, would be to hang a portrait of Ardyn at the beginning of the line. There it would remain, a memorial to the first, forever more.

Decades hence, surrounded by family of both blood and heart, Aulea Lucis Caelum would pass on into the Beyond, content in the knowledge that the world would be safe for generations to come and unwilling to bargain for more years in the sun.

After all, she had a reunion of her own to get to. And it wouldn't do to keep her beloved waiting any longer.)

Pre-reveal Ace gets deaged in the Citadel (visiting glaives?) and in his panic at being on the mainland in front of the king/king-adjacent people accidentally activates one of Ardyn's emergency beacons. Cue Ardyn warping in ready to Murder™ and Ace jumps at him and calls him Dad.

Several things occur in the instant between Ace seeing the King in person for the first time and making the choice to strategically retreat and one of the Glaives firing off a new spell they were testing. Ace backs away from the King and his retainers, Cor notices Ace backing away and makes a beeline for him, Ace pales and attempts to disengage from his conversation with Luche to avoid Co and then the spell the Glaive was casting misfires and hits Ace square in the chest before any of them can react.

There is a brief flash of light and when the light dims everyone is staring at a child.

Ace stares at the area he's in, the people he's in front of, and though he hides it well the growing panic on his face is obvious. Nyx and Libertus are the first to move but then-

Another flash of light and Ardyn is there. The relief on Ace's face made more apparent with how worry had worn its way into it mere seconds before.

"Dad!" Ace calls and clings to Ardyn's coat.

Libertus makes a noise like someone stabbed him.

Nyx looks like he's rewriting several pages of his future plans.

Luche suddenly has a headache the size of an imperial battleship.

Regis coughs and the attention diverts to the King.

"Chancellor." Regis is pleasant even when he doesn't want to be. "Mind telling me the reason for this intrusion?"

"You have my son." The answer is direct and Ace looks like he wants the ground to swallow him whole. "I would be remiss as a parent if i allowed anything to happen to him, isn't that right Father?"

Sorry for the delay; things got crazy during NyxWeek2022! But we’re finally back with the promised deep dive into Nyx’s Board.

Let’s move roughly counterclockwise around the board, taking a look at each section as best we can.

LUCIS WITHDRAWS: Niflheim calls for surrender in territories

For 120 years, the force wall stood tall. Yet the six score of silence the royal house of Lucis had built would come crashing down as the nation was dragged back into the grips of this war, which has ended in defeat once again for the kingdom. As King Morus (sic) has reduced the radius of the wall in order to concentrate its protective energy, Emperor Iedolas Aldercapt of Niflheim has called for the surrender of the outlying cities and settlements.

Three questions: 1) who is the figure standing next to Aldercapt? From the clothing, he appears to be part of Niflheim, but the dark hair is weird. Not Besithia, nor Ardyn. His son? A random minister or general?

2) Who wrote this article? Niflheim or Lucis? “Ended in defeat once again for the kingdom” doesn’t sound very pro-Lucis.

3) How did Nyx get this article from when he was like 2 years old that looks like it was freshly printed? (3b, what kind of paper are newspapers in Lucis printed on to not yellow?) Did Nyx raid a library here in Insomnia?

World News: NIFLHEIM ATTACK ON GALAHD: A Show of Force?

Galahd was raided by imperial forces late last night, according to reports. The Crown City dispatched forces upon hearing of the attack, but the damage was nevertheless devastating, and the number of casualties reported has risen steadily with the morning sun. Galahd resisted the imperial call for surrender after the wall was withdrawn, but has not seen hostilities in the 18 years leading up to last night.

Lots of interesting implications about what happened in Galahd. From the sound of this, Lucis swept in the night of the attack and helped repel it, but that could be propaganda, and we don’t know what happened after this first night. But it’s really disturbing that this is such a small blurb on what’s clearly a middle page without even a “continued on page n”. Also, this was clearly written in Insomnia, lending credence to the theory of Nyx raiding a library here.

There are three pictures of life on Galahd – a picture of the river similar to the poster above Nyx’s bed; two kids in shorts and no shirts (Libertus and Nyx?) swinging from the trees, presumably into the water; and a gathering of what looks like Selena, Nyx, a young dark-haired girl who might possibly be Crowe?, a blonde that’s probably Luche, and Libertus hanging out as dorky teens. It’s nostalgic and a little sad. I’m glad Nyx has these pictures, though.

The picture of the boys looks like a painting, though it could just be an effect, and is burned along the left edge, as well as having white along the edge that looks like it might have been a photocopy originally. It’s definitely seen some damage, though.

We vaguely recall reading somewhere that the group photo was adapted from a picture of the mo-cap artists as an easter egg. Can anyone verify that?

Up at the very top are two illegible handwritten yellow sticky notes, one pinned down for security, and a Lil Malbuddy charm like Crowe has on her phone. I wonder what the story is there…

Next to it is a ticket from Galahd to Insomnia. (Inso-Cava perhaps? For Insomnia-Cavaugh?) Is this from when Nyx first came? By boat, presumably? It looks rather like a Japanese train ticket, though. Perhaps it’s a later trip. It does imply someone’s able to be issuing tickets in Galahd, not just a pel-mel evacuation.

Comparing it to Japanese train tickets (courtesy of Shinkansentrains.com) , the number on the side is probably a date, formatted with the year first, and an easter egg, given that there isn't much going on in years ending in 7 that we might care about, even if we make it Regis’ regnal years. Heisei 27 in the Japanese calendar is the year 2016 in the Western, the year the movie came out, and 7-11 matches the July 9th opening weekend.

If it’s a real in-universe date, it’s probably from a more casual trip Nyx took at a different time. 11270 G is probably the price in gil, and if we convert that to yen that’s about $88 USD or €83. C-05 is probably the compartment number, then.

On to the middle of the board!

Young Libertus and Nyx are kind of adorable. It looks like Nyx has both kukris at this point, and maybe Libertus is carrying a more standard kukri rather than his axe-like one of later in the series. Nyx already has his uniform chain across his chest.

KING REGIS FORGES KINGSGLAIVE IN THE ASHES OF GALAHD

King Regis has formally invited brave volunteers from Galahd to take residence in Insomnia and serve in his royal guard – the Kingsglaive.

A representative of Galahd voiced the citizens’ commitment to resistance one month in the wake of a devastating invasion.

King Regis praised this commitment, promising regular provisions and patrols to Galahd in return.

Okay, so more questions here. It’s unclear if this resistance is to continued invasions of Galahd one month after the main raid, or just resistance against Niflheim in general, especially with Regis promising patrols to Galahd. I don’t think it was utterly destroyed, though, as is often seen in fanon, not if he’s sending supplies and patrols. Plus, in Brotherhood, we hear the Empire tested the wavebreaker in Galahd, which implies people wielding magic are fighting there still, years later.

Second, is that Libertus and Nyx flanking Regis? How fast did they sign up and get cleared? Or is it just coincidence/laziness from the animators?

Third, this seems to fit the timeline for the Kingsglaive being established when Noctis was 5 (about three years before this), with Galahdans being asked to join not found the Kingsglaive. I wonder how many times Regis made this offer to various regions?

The Lucis Caelums are the Addams Family of Eos.

That's why Somnus, Regis, and the other LCs known for being weird, which is pretty much all of them except for the occasional normie LC, is Like That. Noctis was almost a normie, if he wasn't so warptastic and if Regis hadn't made the decision to purposefully expose his son to the Ulric who, to all the LCs who can sense him, is Like Them but a Little To The Left.

That's why there are hardly any LCs by the time of the main game - they were already a small clan to begin with, add in the War and their insane tactics and it makes sense why there's so little of them left.

Killing your sibling or your cousin in a gruesome way is just standard LC greeting. Outsiders just don't understand. And Somnus forgot that, though his brother is dramatic, before the Betrayal and Imprisonment, Ardyn was a normie.

Somnus was so dreadful (happy) when he realized his children took after him. He then warns them against doing Terrible Things that is standard greeting and happiness for them to Normies.

Regis was so happy when, during his journey, he realized he has free reign to do Terrible Things to Nielfhiem and not get scolded by his father for doing Terrible Things to a Normie.

Noctis and Nyx gleefully unleash Terrible Things upon Nielfhiem and Ardyn.

FFXV Drabble/ ficlet dump (AU)

Going on a small nostalgic trip back to an old fandom!Going to put some points down in case I ever feel like writing something more for this. FFXV Hardcore Lore folks pls don’t hurt me.This is an AU I repeat an AU fan indulgent drabble.Mostly to satisfy my need for Prompto,Cor being a dad, Nyx content, more Kingsglaives and Galahd things,happy Chocobros, a HE for everyone even Ardyn as we be petty shit against the astrals. Except Drautos. That guy and Verstael can remain in a ditch with Bahamut. (pairing spoilers in tags) Anyways carry on! -Everything mostly canon except for Prompto being adopted by Cor Leonis’ household but carries the name Argentum because Cor wants his boy to live properly without worrying enemies finding his weakness.Especially with how he is always deployed out. -Cor is not religious even to the Astrals.He grew up in the wild borders of Insomnia and learnt to rely himself above all.He doesn’t even give a damn to Gilgamesh when he was a kid. But he will be damned if he says he doesn’t feel...tense as strange power of magic fills the room when his baby cub babbles into thin air at times. -Prompto grows up with Noctis,Ignis and Gladiolus similar to brotherhood. (Iggy always worries that Prompto’s parents aren’t around but Prompto always reassures he sees them often and have mandatory breakfast with them whenever possible.) -Sunshine boy actually knows he’s from Niflheim very early on, and grows up with the immigrant community very well. He knows and was raised to accept himself (”Remember, no matter what,this thing,”Cor points to that code on this wrist,” doesn’t define you Prompto, but whats in you.You are a Lucian and be proud of how special you are, and above all else you are our son.”) He even have braids in his hair by Galahd grandmothers. Niflheim defectors always make sure that the boy who volunteers in their corner of Insomnia (worse than the Little Galahd, and thats saying something) has homemade sweets. Also, Kingsglaive members recognise Prom when he first came to the Citadel as the Prince’s friend and watches over the little happy chocobo chick who grew up around their neighbourhood

-Prompto never liked being near Drautos and never knew why and always made it a point to tell Cor (”He feels just wrong, I don’t know dad.He just feels like...Death.”)

-During the announcement of the ceasefire, Prompto tries to bring cheer to the troubled Galahdians, he can’t shake off the feeling of terribleness in his bones either. He also lets the glaives who help to train him for the Crownsguard exam vent but some like Tredd and Luche don’t seem themselves but he thinks its the tension amongst everyone due to the War.  -He sees dark vines around Crowe and fear. He grabs her hand,tells his favourite aunt (”I’m your only aunt you lil chocobo!”) to be careful heading out. He sends her off with a soft galahdian prayer.

-There is nothing but a mess of dark vines in this Citadel.A Garden of Death.And it grows. -Before leaving Altissia, he holds the bead in his braid and tries to look forward to spending time with his best friends instead. His fathers said everything will be alright. -He believes them. -Insomnia falls. -They return to Insomnia at the overlooking cliff and Cor contacts them, tells them nothing but to gather at Hammerhead. -Noctis is about to snap from the wait but as he nearly charges out of the underground bunk, Cor appears with Nyx bleeding out while Libertus and a roughed up Crowe with a missing eye follows behind covering a weakened Regis and Clarus in even worse shape being supported by Pelna and Lunafreya.The old Shield has lost his arm.Cid is loud to hide his worry while he fusses the pack in.

-Noctis runs over to his dad and in worry and relief,and is confused at seeing Luna with them. While Ignis and Gladio focus on Clarus. Prompto is crying as he reunites with Cor and Nyx.He greats them with a touch of their foreheads together. His fathers are safe, his family is safe,his home, them, safe. (”S-silly cub, I’m the Hero, I’m fine,see?Not dead.” That earns Nyx a smack on his mangled arm from his Husband as Prompto makes a dying squeak at that) -When everyone finally settles down.The fact that Cor is married (”ELOPED!” Regis and Clarus corrects) to Nyx (”Technically, we just co-parented thats all and-””Nyx.””I’ll shut up,my heart.”) and Prompto is their adopted son (”A-argentum?!””Its a cover.””That explains the lock on your file and why his majesty did not even bother reading it...interesting””This is why you always seem happy the train with Marshal huh?””What the-I-i’m your best friend Prom!””I don’t want you to think im here out of obligation Noct?I just want to be friends??”) -Crowe by some luck or divine luck manage to get away with a loss of her eye and manages to return to Insomnia after killing Luche, Pelna escorts Luna, Nyx and Clarus throws off Drautos/Glauca enough to escape.However to face down Niff army Regis is in near stasis.Nyx tries to convince the King to bargain with his damn ancestors to awaken the old wall.He will act as vessel instead for Regis and brings down Glauca as well.(This earns him a near stab from Cor who is giving him the silent treatment later for probably only 52 minutes.)  -Crowe and Cor manages to find them in the center of madness and leaves the ruined city.Nyx tells them later, the old kings for some reason mangle his arm instead of his life (Cor is this close to committing murder and become a widower) saying something like a divine being already claimed his soul. -With the battered (old) crew unable to move anywhere for now, the Chocobros and Luna leave to gather arms and make the covenants with the astrals. Camping with each other and Luna is fun apart from the occasional wildlife and dropship ruining dinner. And being so close makes them feel safe and warm if anything else. And If passing by Costlemark made Prompto shake and eerily possessed? Probably just haunted. They avoid trying to read into it while Luna senses her magic reacting strangely to Prompto on occasion. -The astrals seem to fear Prompto,almost. Prompto thinks its because he is Niff blood and they are trying to kill the gods so shrug.jpg Ramuh is probably the only one not giving him problems probably because most Galahd folks are under his protection. -Ardyn is a pest and he is very intrigued by Prompto as his daemons within hate this tiny boy.

-In Altissia, Leviathan goes mad as usual especially when Prompto interrupt’s Ardyn’s madness of trying to kill Luna. Later, Noct finds out when he awakes is news that Prompto has been taken by the Empire.

-They receive feed from of Prompto’s torture but Prompto manages to escape and wanders the facility. He contacts his friends and family but not before daemon Ardyn appears at the back and the video gets cut.

-Cor and Nyx go nuts and tears everything apart while Regis,Claus,the remaining Insomnia army and kingsglaive join with Ravus, Arenea and Tenebrae in pushing into the Empire’s territory. -They find Prompto but they also find a dead Empire covered in vines and floating lights of souls. A dead Aldercapt is the least of their worries because Prompto is there,gaunt,wounded and pale but still alive.The Crystal in a menacing light behind while his hand remains on Ardyn’s face, vines of death dancing across his skin,eating away his scourge, the dead spirits hovers and fades as the fallen king gasps, the first air of freedom in a long while before he collapses. -”Prom?” Noctis tries to reach out to his friend “No Noctis...That may not be our Prompto fully.”Luna softly voices out. ”Indeed.”Gentiana appears.”In this land where the dead thrives, he was born, here, he was chosen with her remaining strength.”  “What...was he chosen for?”  “To stop the end of Man.”  “By whom?” “...In Galahd…We have a deity that we evoke other than the astrals.She was mostly forgotten when the astrals came.An old power even before Solhiem.One whose name we sing in prayers when a life ends.” Nyx sighs as he holds onto Cor, whose eyes ever left his son,his hand clutching his katana turning bone white. “Etro.” -Turns out Etro is less than pleased that the astrals who she had welcomed onto her star have driven her out.The loss of faith made her lonely and powerless.Galahad is probably the last place her name is spoken even though rarely.The once patron god of Eos, reduced to nothingness. While she watch them murder her children on her star. -Cor has never told anyone other than Nyx of the dreams of a dark Garden and a quiet being guiding him into a factory, deeper into a lab where cries of the dead scream into his ears, though in the screams he hears, a quiet soft cry that he can never forget. -Their meeting was more than fate but regardless, Cor and Nyx protects their son.A Lion and Coeurl and their cub.Theirs. -”Everything lives.everything dies.even gods.” The vessal of Etro whispers. “And even you.
