ok here’s the thing. because PERSONALLY i don’t love the broadway version of hadestown, but i would be fine with it if the current culture in theatre allowed for multiple versions of the same text to exist. because i want nothing more than to play orpheus, but only in the nytw version of hadestown. especially with the themes of hadestown itself, it would be wonderful if multiple different iterations of the text were allowed to circulate! but instead the only version that will probably ever be available to produce will be the current broadway revision :(((((((((

one of my great joys is telling people who are only familiar with broadway hadestown about the nytw version and watching their hearts break in real time as i quote persephone’s chant ii verse, orpheus and eurydice’s dialogue in come home with me ii, and the “you’re early” “i missed you” ending. i’ve done this to three or four people and it feeds my soul

i had nytw hadestown thoughts

right so we've all seen that bluey video of bingo singing poor little bug on the wall in that hammock... that is eurydice if she was not constantly being shoved around by the wind and forced to scrabble from point a all the way to point z by the fates. i will not elaborate.

eurydice is a peppermint tea person. orpheus is a hot chocolate with two shots of espresso person.

orpheus tells people that he drinks but cannot handle a single shot of liquor. eurydice is hardly ever coerced into drinking but she can polish off a lot of alcohol. sometimes she takes orpheus' shots for him when she doesn't want to carry a half-delirious guitar man back to their apartment.

their apartment has 12 succulents. in a modern day au, that number would be squared. eurydice is very much a succulent girl she's a plant lady. a cactus caregiver. an aloe adopter. she doesn't really trust him with them initially but she lets him water them every once in a while. #trustisbuilt guys

orpheus in a modern context would listen to johnny flynn.
