5. Will You Catch Me This Time? 💄 modern human au pruger slowburn. Ludwig was born as Monika and in college, starts to turn male at night but back to female during the day. Gil and Ludwig are estranged after Gil got into a fight with their dad Aldrich when Ludwig was a kid. Gilbert is a billionaire who hires Ludwig, who hasn't been able to hold down a job due to his condition. Gil doesn't know... yet >:3

Catching a Spy

I’ve been tossing around a ficlet idea in my head for how a potential LietCan pairing would start.

I’ve previously talked before about how Toris and Madeline would calm each other well in stressful situations, and had the 80′s as the first time it happened.  Still, I feel Madeline would need a more significant way to get on Toris’s radar before then.

How does this work?  With a common trope we see in every Canada pairing with the German bros: the master spy.

There have been so much fanfiction already written about how Canada can disguise himself/herself as a genuine German, sneak into enemy territory during the wars, and steal important documents right under everyone’s noses with only Ludwig recognizing them at the last moment.

So, let’s start with that trope.  Madeline was a master spy during the wars, repeatedly breaking into German headquarters to steal information.  This eventually turned into a game for Ludwig and Gilbert, watching from a distance to see what she did in their offices before trapping her at the last moment.

Flash-forward to the 60′s-70′s.  The wall is up, Gilbert’s been barricaded to an government building in Moscow where all the Soviet nations have offices to coordinate their actions, and Russia has been pissing off the West to the point where outside nations can only visit on an explicit invitation from him.

Lithuania is on patrol duty one day in the halls of the building, because Russia has the feeling that another nation has somehow appeared in his territory without permission.  Toris is keeping his eyes open for any unusual visitors, and needs to let Russia know immediately if he finds anyone.

Toris strolls past the little lobby area outside the GDR office.  The uptight German secretary is typing away but still knows to greet him, and Toris already knew that Gilbert is in a meeting elsewhere.  However, there is a young woman sitting in the seats by Gilbert’s office door that catches Toris’s attention.

Her hair is pulled back into a tight bun, but it’s still stray enough for Toris to notice that her hair is possibly too curly for a German.  In addition, her business clothes look too well-kept for a Soviet secretary.

Toris asks Gilbert’s secretary about the visitor.  She explains that the mysterious woman is here on confidential business from Berlin for Gilbert.

He then approaches the woman and speaks to her in his rusty German, requesting her identification and purpose of visit.  She has what appears to be genuine German documentation, with a proper name and birthplace to be considered East German.  However, he can tell that her German accent is fake, and proceeds to call her out on it as he realizes who she actually is.

“Your German accent is terrible,” Toris would say in English.  Her blank face would drop into a subtle smirk as she would answer.

“It’s not like these Russians would know any better.”

Before Toris can reply, Gilbert would show up, immediately recognize the woman and realize what she was doing.

“You’ve got to be kidding me!  For fuck’s sake, Madeline, how do you keep doing this?”

She then shows Gilbert the fake German papers that Ludwig helped her make so that she would sneak across borders and get to Moscow.  She then asks for the boys to summon Russia so that she can have a good chat with him about not nuking a particular bunch of self-centered idiots (also known as her family).

once again thinking of my victorian lietnyocan au that’s only in my head, and maddie in lace and white cotton, the little “ghost” of her brothers manor after returning from the sea sufficiently non-hysterical. wanders the halls at night and during the day, silent with a vacant expression and jumpscaring people accidentally. and then a heartbroken business partner of alfred’s comes to stay…..
