As someone who doesn’t knit or crochet much with normal-weight yarn (I do a lot of lace crochet with thread), I find it really interesting how there are two prominent and completely different views on what the best yarn type is.
There’s the people who love wool. You gotta love wool. It’s waterproof, it’s wonderful, it’s from a sheep (usually? I think? Is it called something else if it’s from other animals? Alpaca wool is a thing, right?). You can also easily spin and dye wool yourself, making it all the more wonderful and sustainable. Why have plastic yarn if you can make it from sheep hair? Sheep will always have hair to give.
And then, there’s the people who love synthetics. Why not? They make wonderful socks, and they’re decently sturdy. They can even be stretchy, too! With synthetics, you can get so many different vibrant colours, and the yarn can be uncannily uniform. Also, who has the time to hand wash everything nowadays? You can just toss it in the washing machine, if it’s synthetic. Why would you want expensive and potentially scratchy wool?
Alas, this is just what I’ve heard, for I sit in the middle with my piles of mercerized cotton thread.
(A little disclaimer on synthetics: they’re all different. This is not a care guide, please don’t destroy your socks)

I have a lot of brown yarn around because I always think it’ll work well in something or I’ll use it in colorwork (I almost never do colorwork), but it’s actually kind of nice here.
#yarn#knit#soft#this is synthetic and wool blend#I think the synthetic is nylon but might prefer to double check

You know people don’t tell you this but apparently when you are actually on meds for your ADHD you suddenly gain the ability to just… make spreadsheets
Two years ago me barely even touched google sheets. Today me is constantly like “hmm you know what I could do with all this information I’m gathering? Make an intense multi tab spreadsheet as a quick reference guide :)”
Wild shit
#personal#adhd#spreadsheets#seriously though I have never been simultaneously more and less organized#currently my latest hyperfixation is my desire to get into doll customization#I have one spreadsheet dedicated to documenting doll YouTuber videos to reference for things like hairstyles#another tab for listing all the articulated doll brands I might want to look into getting#another spreadsheet dedicated to listing all my ocs and what supplies I might need for each#like trying to decide if I want to go nylon/Saran doll hair or yarn hair#a separate master list tab of YouTube video tutorials for specific things like making doll wheelchairs#so yeah!! my brain really has said ‘it’s spreadsheet time babie’#genuinely though the first thing I really noticed about my meds is that I could like. actually work on organizing my thoughts#and apparently the way that manifests is: spreadsheets and lists#highly recommend

I’m not avoiding my 3 spinning and 4 knitting projects!!! I’m not!!!
#I’m just sampling!#honestly!#gotta know how I wanna do my next project.#anyways as much as I enjoy the action of combing fibers#I didn’t like that the Icelandic in particular would separate out tog from them#and I am not spending 100$ on single row combs I would only really want for double fleeces like this#and I do eventually want to experiment with seperated fleeces (just not right now)#I decided I was finally gonna do it#I was finally gonna get reacquainted with my cards#and so far I’m having a decent time!#I think I finally found a technique that works for me#(it’s basically just from Louis Swales’ video ‘how to card like a ghost’)#I’m putting out rolags that umm#ok they don’t look great but they are a decent spinning experience!#and I like how little waste there is#currently in this pic I am spinning some rolags that were rolled off the short end of cards so the fiber is mostly parallel#(been calling them cigar rolags)#and tbh I think I prefer the rolag rolled off the long side#I feel the dual cost fibers mix better#I’m gonna try to spindle spin enough yarn to make a short pair of socks as one of the things I wanted to do was get#a pair of 100% Icelandic wool socks to see how it wears compared to the commercial standard of merino nylon blend#and then I want to spin some Lopi style for a sweater#and if I have any long locks leftover I’ll use that in my current rug project#yarn#handmade#spinning#handspinning#handspun#wool#spindle

Finishing my WIPs was just an excuse to cast on all over lace project. Day one always has the most impressive progress.
#knitting#lace rot#knitblr#lace knitting#wip#this wasn't even the all over lace project i wanted to cast on. my brain has been having a Mental Illness Moment recently#i have three other projects lined up and it just went actually what if we knit a hannukah gift in less than a month so ig we're trying that#at least it's pretty. this purple is so intense. hopefully this yarn blocks well (acrylic/nylon blend) so the actual pattern shows.#i don't mind how it looks just kinda textured while scrunkly but the actual pattern is WAYYY nicer#godwilling i'll get more work done on this today. had my covid booster yesterday and it's kicking my ass along with seasonal depression#also if anyone recognizes this pattern i added two additional garter stitches to either end so that's why it's a little funky#also i am actually using stitch markers this time!! only two because i still hate them but#it was nice to know the difference between the edge stitches and the main pattern repeat

Did you ever hate a yarn so much that you make multiple blanket panels with it before unraveling everything and throwing it in a bag for the thrift store? [screaming in despair]
#apparently I just hate acrylic so much now that I can't finish a single project with acrylic in it#nylon tencel etc all good it's just...#acrylic gives me the Bad Feelings#yarnblr#being able to use wool has ruined me for certain things#also I am just#not a fan of bulky yarn and I tried to redeem a bulky hated yarn by holding it triple with two pretty laces#now I'm just mad I wasted the lace and I still hate the bulky stuff

It’s hilarious to me that I bought half this yarn on clearance at once website, the other half on clearance at another website more than a year later and last night when I was wondering how I wanted to deal with having two different dye lots I went to sort them so I could use all first dye lot for the body and incorporate the second into the sleeves only to find… my second order of yarn is the same dye lot?? It’s probably just one of the last dye lots produced, but still!!
Anyway my birthday sweater is in progress.
#adventures in knitting#the yarn is 45% wool 45% cotton 10% nylon#I’m very curious how it’ll turn out!

So, I just finished binding off my vacation knitting, which, of course, means finding a new project. I decided that if I can go stash diving and find the yarn for it, I will do the West Knits MKAL. This is what I have come up with (at the moment). Both are Fiber Optic Yarns Kashmir in the colorways Green Curry and Caramel Apple. (And I do have two skeins of each.)

I have the Kría shawl finished with the exception of a gentle hand washing and block drying it and attaching the tassels to the corners. This is going to be a birthday present for one of my cousins. The hand dyed yarn is from Wool & Wanderlust (a Nova Scotia yarn dyer).

Nylon Tire Yarn (NTY) Prices | Pricing | Trend | News | Database | Chart | Forecast
Nylon Tire Yarn (NTY) prices is a crucial component in the production of tires, particularly for high-performance and durable vehicles. As the global automotive industry continues to evolve, so does the demand for high-quality materials such as Nylon Tire Yarn. This type of yarn, derived from recycled nylon, plays a vital role in enhancing the strength, durability, and overall performance of tires. Consequently, the prices of Nylon Tire Yarn have become a significant point of discussion among manufacturers and industry experts.
The pricing of Nylon Tire Yarn is influenced by a multitude of factors, including raw material costs, production technology, and market demand. One of the primary drivers of NTY prices is the cost of nylon resin, which is the fundamental raw material used in the production of this yarn. Fluctuations in the price of crude oil, from which nylon resin is derived, can significantly impact NTY prices. When oil prices rise, the cost of nylon resin typically follows suit, leading to increased expenses for tire manufacturers. Additionally, changes in supply and demand dynamics within the global nylon market can contribute to price volatility. For example, a surge in demand for nylon products across various industries, such as textiles and electronics, can lead to a higher cost for Nylon Tire Yarn.

Another crucial aspect affecting NTY prices is advancements in production technology. Innovations in manufacturing processes can lead to more efficient production methods, potentially reducing the cost of Nylon Tire Yarn. However, the initial investment in new technology can be substantial, and these costs may be passed on to consumers in the form of higher prices. Conversely, improvements in technology that enhance the quality and performance of NTY could justify higher prices due to the added value they provide to tire manufacturers and end-users.
Market demand also plays a significant role in shaping NTY prices. The automotive industry's growth, particularly in emerging markets, drives the need for high-quality tires, thereby increasing the demand for Nylon Tire Yarn. Additionally, the trend towards more sustainable and eco-friendly products has led to an increased focus on using recycled materials, such as recycled nylon, in tire production. This shift can influence NTY prices as manufacturers seek to balance the benefits of using sustainable materials with the costs associated with producing them.
Economic conditions and geopolitical factors are other important considerations that impact NTY prices. For instance, trade policies, tariffs, and international relations can affect the cost of importing and exporting Nylon Tire Yarn. A trade dispute or an increase in tariffs can lead to higher prices for imported NTY, influencing the overall market pricing. Furthermore, economic downturns or recessions can lead to reduced demand for automotive products, including tires, which may impact the pricing dynamics of Nylon Tire Yarn.
In addition to these factors, industry-specific trends also play a role in determining NTY prices. The growing emphasis on tire performance and safety has led to a demand for higher-quality materials, including advanced Nylon Tire Yarn. As manufacturers strive to meet stricter performance and safety standards, the cost of producing and acquiring premium NTY can increase. This, in turn, affects the overall pricing structure within the tire industry.
In conclusion, the prices of Nylon Tire Yarn are influenced by a complex interplay of factors, including raw material costs, technological advancements, market demand, economic conditions, and industry-specific trends. As the automotive industry continues to evolve and adapt to new challenges and opportunities, the dynamics of NTY pricing will undoubtedly continue to shift. Understanding these factors is crucial for manufacturers, suppliers, and consumers alike, as they navigate the ever-changing landscape of the Nylon Tire Yarn market.
