ok so. air dry clay is not polymer clay is not ceramic clay. these are all very different materials.
commercial air dry clay is usually a mix of fiber pulp, water, glue/binding agent, sometimes ground minerals like pumice, maybe plaster, a few other ingredients. polymer clay is plastic, that's why it's called polymer. ceramic/pottery clay is composed of various minerals such as but not limited to kaolinite, feldspar, and crystalline silica (quartz).
(the crystalline silica part is important because out of these three clay types in their unfinished state, ceramic clay is probably the one that should be handled with the most care/knowledge in the sense that years of unfiltered exposure to significant amounts of dry silica dust can give you silicosis aka an incurable lung disease. don't make pottery in your bedroom, kids)
air dry clay does exactly what it says—you leave it out and it hardens in the air, and because the binding agent it contains is water-based, moisture can re-dissolve it and cause damage. polymer clay must be baked at temps achievable in a home oven, usually around 275F/135C, and is waterproof both before and after baking because again, it's plastic. ceramic clay has to be fired in a specialized kiln for 8+ hours at temps that can be 2000+F/1093+C (wide range, it depends) that changes the chemical structure of the clay and minerals within.
the "finishing methods" of these clays are not interchangeable. your air dry clay dries in the air, you don't need to bake it like polymer clay. polymer clay is oil-based, it will remain moldeable until it's baked. ceramic clay cannot be fired in a kitchen oven. you especially cannot have air dry and polymer clays anywhere near a ceramic kiln because those will do fun things like melt, explode, or vaporize into toxic fumes, and I think the kiln tech or owner will personally rip you apart and then loot your corpse to pay for the kiln repairs.
these clays are also not interchangeable if you are attempting to make food-safe items. air dry clay and polymer clay should never be used to create items that will come in direct contact with food, ever, because air dry clay will dissolve in contact with water, and polymer clay is plastic that is not food-safe. decorate the outside of an existing mug with polymer clay if you want, but don't put any clay inside or where your mouth touches, and definitely don't go trying to make an entire mug out of polymer. also you won't be able to microwave that mug anymore unless you want plastic fumes. common protective coatings for air-dry/polymer clays like polyurethane varnishes and UV/epoxy resin are also not food safe!! even those resins that are rated food-safe are only safe with specific uses (only cold food, no cutting/utensil use that can damage the surface, no heat whatsoever). ceramic clay is the only type of clay that can potentially make food-safe items, and I say potentially because whether or not a final ceramic object is food-safe depends on a wide range of things I'm not qualified to talk about like glaze ingredients, proper firing temps, etc.
I'm probably forgetting some important things but I wrote this in a feverish haze after once again seeing too many posts/videos hoping to make dinnerware from craft clays so tldr: - air dry and polymer clays are great for trinkets and decorative items, absolutely not for anything touching food, even with a resin/varnish applied - keep air dry and polymer clay far away from ceramic clay, don't let them mix, don't bring the former two to a ceramic studio and ask if you can get them fired because that kiln tech will Get You - there might be some weird exceptions. like I found a listing for amaco air dry clay that supposedly can be treated just like fiber-based air dry clay but also can be fired to cone 4 (edit: i can't read it's cone 04. which is a much lower temp). does that mean that it contains silica then?? and then there's an air dry "polymer" clay that specifically says something like "don't be fooled by the polymer title, this doesn't need an oven because it's made of polymer resin and cures with air exposure." idk man. read the manufacturer's instructions if you're like damn I don't know what kind of clay this is and how to handle it
ok bye

How Often Should a Bathroom Be Replaced?
Let’s be real—no one wakes up thinking, “You know what sounds fun? A full bathroom replacement.” But at some point, whether you’re noticing cracked tiles, outdated fixtures, or just that constant “meh” feeling every time you walk in… the question starts creeping in: How often should a bathroom actually be replaced?
Well, here’s the thing—it’s not a one-size-fits-all answer. But don’t worry, we’re going to break it down in plain English (with a few helpful detours along the way) so you know exactly what to look for—whether you’re a Lake County homeowner, a house flipper in Antioch, or someone finally ready to give that avocado green toilet a well-deserved sendoff.
Bathrooms Don’t Have an Expiration Date, But They Do Have a Lifespan
Just like that pair of jeans you’ve owned since college, bathrooms wear out—only theirs is a mix of moisture, daily use, and shifting design trends. Generally speaking, a bathroom lasts around 10 to 15 years before needing serious attention. But here’s what really matters: how well it’s been maintained, what materials were used, and whether it still works for you.
So when do you actually need to replace a bathroom? Let’s get into the signs—and they’re not always as obvious as mold or leaks (though those count, too).
“Does My Bathroom Still Work for My Life?”
We’re not just talking about plumbing here. Life changes, and your bathroom should keep up. Ask yourself:
Have your needs shifted? Maybe you're aging in place, or you've got young kids now. A slippery tub or cramped layout might not cut it anymore.
Are you working around your bathroom instead of with it? If you’re squeezing past doors that open into sinks, or the lighting is too dim for makeup or shaving, it’s not just annoying—it’s a sign of poor design.
Does it still reflect your style? Trends evolve. If you’re staring down a forest green countertop or brass fixtures that belong in a 1980s music video, it may be time for a refresh.
Here at Waldron Construction, we’ve helped homeowners in Antioch and Lake County completely rethink their spaces—not just with new tile, but by reimagining how the space feels and functions.
Functional Clues That Say: “Replace Me, Please”
Alright, let’s talk mechanics for a minute. Here are some telltale signs that your bathroom is past its prime:
Persistent leaks or water damage – If you’ve patched a spot on the ceiling more than once or your vanity is warping, it’s probably not a fluke.
Grout and tile issues – Cracked, missing, or discolored grout isn’t just ugly—it can let moisture in and lead to major problems behind the scenes.
Outdated or inefficient plumbing fixtures – Older toilets and faucets can waste a surprising amount of water. (And yes, that higher water bill does add up.)
Soft or sagging floors – Never a good sign. That’s often a red flag for water damage lurking beneath.
And if you’re working with a basement bathroom that’s seen better days? That’s a whole different beast—we’ve got basement finishing services and basement construction expertise to handle that, too.
Let’s Talk Style
You might not think of your bathroom as a place for personality—but trust us, it’s one of the most impactful spaces to refresh. A well-designed bathroom can add serious value to your home, especially in Lake County’s competitive market.
What’s trending now? We’ve seen a ton of homeowners go for:
White shaker cabinets – Clean, classic, and easy to match with anything.
Amish cabinetry – Custom, built to last, and rich with character.
Specialty flooring – Think concrete wood finishes, color flakes, or epoxy floors that bring unexpected charm underfoot.
And if you’re wondering how to clean shaker cabinets once they’re in—don’t stress. They’re surprisingly low maintenance (a little warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth usually does the trick).
Kitchen and Bath Remodelers Know: The Details Matter
A bathroom remodel isn’t just ripping out a tub and tossing in a new sink. Done right, it should feel like it was always meant to be there. That’s why at Waldron Construction, we bring together not just contractors—but true artisans.
From custom millwork to Pella window installation, we’re about craftsmanship that holds up—and makes you smile every time you walk in. That’s also why so many people search for a “home remodel architect near me” or “kitchen and bath showrooms near me open today”—because they want to see real solutions in action.
When Selling Your Home, A New Bathroom Isn’t Just a Want
Thinking about selling? Upgrading your bathroom could be the difference between an offer and a maybe later. Real estate investors and flippers in Lake County know this well. A beautiful bathroom feels like a fresh start, and buyers feel that immediately.
Even just refreshing fixtures, improving lighting, or swapping in shaker-style cabinetry can turn a dated bath into a major selling point.
The Flip Side: When You Don’t Need a Full Replacement
Here’s the part most contractors won’t say: you don’t always need a total gut job.
Sometimes all you need is:
New paint and hardware – Swapping brass for matte black or brushed nickel can instantly modernize a space.
Upgraded lighting – Never underestimate the power of a well-placed sconce or brighter vanity light.
Updated vanity or mirror – These are visual anchors. Change them, and the whole room feels refreshed.
Of course, if the bones are bad or the layout just doesn’t work, a remodel is still your best bet.
How Often Should You Really Replace a Bathroom?
If you’ve made it this far, you probably already have an idea where your bathroom stands.
Here’s a rough guide:
Every 10–15 years for full remodels, especially if original fixtures or finishes are showing wear
Every 5–7 years for cosmetic updates (paint, lighting, mirrors)
Immediately if there’s water damage, safety hazards, or structural concerns
And hey—there’s no shame in just wanting a change, either. Your home should make you feel good, and your bathroom plays a bigger role in that than most people admit.
Thinking Bigger? We Handle Way More Than Bathrooms
If you're dreaming beyond the bath, you’re in good hands.
We offer:
Kitchen remodeling and kitchen design (because everyone ends up in the kitchen, right?)
New home construction and custom homes built around your life
Commercial renovations for local businesses who want their space to reflect their brand
Decks and patios, Waldron custom closets, and even reverse osmosis water filtration systems
Whether it’s a complete gut or a subtle refresh, we’re all about bringing your ideas to life—and building homes that feel like they fit.
Final Thoughts
Look, you use your bathroom every single day. It's where you get ready. Where you decompress. Sometimes, it’s your only alone time. Shouldn’t it feel like a space you actually enjoy?
Whether you’re in Antioch, Libertyville, or anywhere across Lake County, Illinois—Waldron Construction is here to help you figure out what’s worth replacing, what just needs a tweak, and how to create a space that truly works for you.

it's lucky for peter that daryl took a couple of months to get himself together. while he's not a bad person ( and not generally a violent person, either, as difficult as it might be to believe after their few quarrels ), his temper does sometimes get the better of him— particularly when he has reason to feel indignant, or like he's being backed into a corner. the drinking didn't help, either.
but now, after he's had time to right himself and think about his actions? after he's taken the step to apologize and try to move on? his baseline is a distinct level of calm that those who have known him for years recognize him for. so as peter starts asking questions, real curiosity crawling through each lilt of his inflection, daryl simply listens. ponders quietly on how to respond.
in truth, there's a lot to unpack about peter's inquiries. it's immediately clear to daryl, as it was when they first met, that he doesn't know very much about what it's really like to live out here; particularly about landownership, it seems. but part of him does find it amusing, as well, that his counterpart believes him to be strong enough to crack the wooden handle of a hunting knife with his bare hands.
‘ wood cracks, ’ he says plainly. ‘ you got a knife with a wood handle, it don' matter how careful you are— moisture and wear n' tear will do it. ’
his carving knife is held with confidence as it slices easily through the wood. the shavings fall to the ground around his feet. making a new handle isn't exactly what he wanted to do; he would much rather just fill the crack with epoxy and then seal it off and be done with it. however, the crack wasn't exactly shallow; it was more like a complete break, leaving the wood in pieces due to its heavy usage and exposure to the elements over the years. he won't get into those nitty gritty details, though. daryl believes what he's said already is enough.
the more pressing explanation, he thinks, revolves around peter's belief that he must be some kind of well-off just because he owns land. it's a common misconception by folks who haven't grown up this way— not peter's fault, by any means, but incorrect nonetheless.
‘ can't afford to jus' buy a new one. gotta fix what i got, or i don't got nothin'. ’ he allows the statement to hang in the air for a moment before his eyes flicker up to peter. it applies to everything he has: his vehicles, his personal possessions, his household appliances... even his crossbow was a gift from his uncle jess a long, long time ago. but daryl has always lived this way, as do so many in rural america— one paycheck away from being completely behind on bills, but self-sufficient enough to hunt his own dinner and craft and fix his own possessions.
it's a shame he never learned how to make his own moonshine or grow his own tobacco, or he'd be able to live off-grid forever.
‘ bought this land from my uncle back in the 90s. i was prob'ly yer age. he was on 'is deathbed, sold all of it t'me for five grand so i'd have somethin'. been here ever since. ’
he won't mention his brother, or his father, or the circumstances which led to him taking his uncle jess up on the offer to move out here. not for now— maybe not ever. it's a story full of shame that he doesn't want to lay bare.
woeful as it may be for daryl and his apparent short fuse, his reply inspires a number of questions in peter. a curious peter is a relentless peter; it likely stems from the fact that usually when he has questions, his only option is to trawl about the internet and read up on it on his own. getting the information directly from the mouth of another? it's all but novel to him at this point.
"dooo i even wanna ask how you broke it?" and though it's most definitely a joke, the more he considers it, the more he thinks he might be right not to turn that particular stone. "i mean... i've broken a knife exactly once. it's pretty hard to do." he doesn't want to explain that he did so because he was in the midst of a mental breakdown and thought that stabbing an ice-cold watermelon might be a good idea, but it doesn't take away from the fact that he broke a kitchen knife. "i guess you're stronger than me, though..."
based on looks anyway.
"um... not that it's a bad philosophy to have, making good on what you've got, but what's the problem with buying it?" he hesitates briefly, a nervous smile forming on his face. it isn't that he forgets about the common man's wage despite never really being on it, rather... "i just ask 'cause... y'know, you're a land-owner? they're typically pretty well off? i wouldn't think a knife, even a good quality one, would put you out too much?"
it doesn't matter to him what amount daryl has to his name; whether it's millions or mere dimes. despite having a large excess himself, he acknowledges that he only does so because of his extremely unfortunate circumstances in his youth. he has started earning a wage now; his online musician persona, gray, is now what most would consider incredibly large and it makes him very good money despite his anonymity, but it wasn't always this way. in fact, through most of his twenties, he was simply a troubled kid living an incredibly depressed life on the wills of his dead parents, then a late student pinching pennies in an unfamiliar city. he'd hardly earned that money, even if he arguably deserved all of it and then some for the hell he'd been dragged through.
no, this has nothing to do with money at all. he's merely curious.
"uh— sorry. if that... came out wrong. having projects is always a good thing regardless. i wasn't shitting on that."
he can deal with being known as a bitchy little brat; an ill-tempered, rude piece of shit; an idiot, even. but he draws the line at rich prick... the last thing he's categorised by is cash.
#they're killing me killjoy. they're truly killing me#substances //#death mention //#ripgray#take me to the nearest famous city middle where they hang the lights. ( modern / ripgray )

Do's and Dont's of Old Farm House Basements

For some people, basements are pretty scary and I do not blame people who feel that way. They come with a completely different set of problems than just having a crawl space, especially when your house is 120 years old like mine.
Let's talk about what a good foundation looks like.
For anyone who wants to embark on their own home renovation journey and is about to buy a house, these tips will be essential for making good decisions and when to run like hell. Maybe you already own a house, some of these tips will still be helpful to you. Keep reading for all this good info, but don't forget to follow me for more DIY crafting and house renovation projects as well as tons of useful info!
Don't buy a house with concave basement walls
Don't buy a house with concave basement walls

This is a run like hell moment. If your foundation looks like it's pushing in or pushing out, that's a really expensive job to fix it, like thousands of dollars. Generally, this is caused by hydrostatic pressure build up which pushes in on the walls.
Do ignore efflorescence - it's not mold

The picture above is actually from my own basement. That white patch you see? Efflorescence. It's a build up of minerals from water that seeps through the porous sandstone. It's not harmful, but it does indicate that some water redirection could be done around the foundation. However, sandstone will inevitably always absorb moisture so this isn't going away soon, but it's not harmful so it. shouldn't scare you off.
Do check the grout between the stones.
Old field stone foundations like mine will need to be repointed. You will want to stick your fingers between the stones and pick at the grout to see how much of it is loose. If it's really bad, there will already be gaps between many of the stones. This is not the end of the world, but it does affect the structural integrity of the house. I paid a mason to come in and repoint my foundation from the interior, as well as my chimneys for $1,800. They also painted the stone to help will humidity issues caused from the porous sandstone. It's also a pretty easy and cheap job to do yourself if you have the time!
Don't plan on finishing the basement how it is
Did you know that prior to the 90's, no basement was every designed to be 'finished'? That means, if you really want to finish your basement, updated drainage around the base and exterior needs to happen before. Depending on the age and materials used to construct your basement, cost wise it might not be feasible to properly finish your basement. Let's say you skip that step and finish. it anyway. You run the risk of any items in your basement being destroyed either by high amounts of humidity, which causes mold, or through a flood. Even if your property has never flooded, you should always expect the worst. My cousin bought a house with a semi-finished basement that had never flooded. It took one torrential downpour that flooded the entire city for his belongings to all be destroyed.
Do inspect the condition of the joists.

Your joist generally sit on your foundation wall and run to a main beam, or to another foundation wall. In old homes like my own, it was not uncommon to notch the joists so that they would sit nicely on the foundation or in the beam. This was used in lieu of the braces/brackets we use today. The issue with this is that it decreased the effective depth of the joist since the underside is unsupported. In areas of the house that have heavy objects, or load bearing walls, one can observe these joists start to split at the notching point. It's not the end of the world, but you should plan on lifting the joist with a bottle jack, putting in a brace with nails (NOT screws! They do not have the sheer strength!). This increases the strength of your joist significantly and will prevent further cracking!
The other thing you will want to check is how level the joists are. My house is very unlevel compared to new builds, but not unreasonably so. The decreased strength and long joist runs have caused bowing in my joists. I've just made sure they're fully supported moving forward while I level out the house so they have the strength to hold new additions!
Don't buy a house with many massive holes through joists and the sill plate

The picture above is once again from my own basement after a repair had been made (Yes, I used screws in the brackets, I have to go back with nails and fix it... I blame my dad 🙃). The plumber who put in the stack behind the new wood, just decided to cut off a joist and leave it completely unsupported. I can't believe anyone in their right mind would just leave a joist unsupported like that... Don't do that. But behind the stack, is part of my sill plate, which is pretty well irreparable at his point because of all the holes cut into it for pipe. For small pipe or electric, cutting a hole in the bottom 1/4ish of a joist or sill plate is fine, but making large holes destroys the structural integrity of your home. That's because it's the depth of the wood that gives the strength to hold up your home. These are repairable, so it's not the end of the world, but it does take some knowledge and time. Epoxy, sistering, and scabbing are all methods used to repair joists and sill plates. However, I would run if you see any major house sagging or other noticeable problems caused through this type of damage.
Don't buy a house with abundant moisture problems
Moisture causes mold, but the mold shouldn't scare you, even if it's black mold, as long as you can control the moisture. One, mold does not have to be black to send out mycotoxins so black mold isn't the only enemy. Two, mold is harmless with insufficient moisture. Mold needs a food source, like wood or drywall paper, plus water to grow. The truth is, mold is always present in every home whether you like it or not. Whether it's active is another thing. My house is over 100 years old, IT HAS MOLD. All that mold is super inactive because no water is leaking and I have a dehumidifier in my basement. So am I going to spend thousands of dollars to clean it up? Hell no. I'm going to invest in keeping my house dry and the mold won't affect the air quality. However, you shouldn't invest in a house that's going to be difficult to keep dry. My house is on top of a hill so I just have normal porous sandstone humidity issues which are pretty well controllable.
I feel like I covered some really important topics that are important to evaluating basement and foundation quality. I probably missed somethings, but I feel like these are the topics I've come across the most making improvements to my basement foundation and/or made me swear at the previous owners for doing really dumb things.
Have questions that I didn't answer here?
Hit that reblog button and type in your question! I'm sure someone else would find it equally as helpful.
Have your own helpful tips?
Pleaser add to this post! Reblog and add your useful information. Let's make basements less scary!!!

How To Assemble 12.8V 150Ah LiFePO4 Batteries For Trolling Motors?
LiFePO4 batteries have lots of advantages and are becoming quite in demand in the market of trolling motors. When we refer to the LiFePO4 batteries, maybe you will compare them with the GEL batteries. For a long time, GEL batteries play a role in our lives. Nowadays, we prefer LiFePO4 batteries.
As opposed to boats that use GEL batteries, electrical boats equipped with the 12.8Volt 150Ah lithium batteries are more economical, less polluting, and clearly better for the environment. The LiFePO4 battery has a longer life span and deep cycle times(even more than 5,000 times).
Are you a Lithium battery amateur and interested in li ion battery pack assembly? Now we’d like to share the whole assembly process for beginners, which takes the 12.8V 150Ah LiFePO4 battery as an example.
*Note: It is recommended that you learn some basic knowledge about LiFePO4 batteries before assembling the battery pack. Keep safe when you are assembling the battery pack.
youtube
Materials Used:
3.2V 150Ah LiFePO4 battery cells (4 pieces)
There are currently three common shapes of LiFePO4 batteries: cylindrical, prismatic, and pouch. Different shapes of batteries will have a certain impact on performance. At present, the most suitable battery DIY enthusiasts are the prismatic LiFePO4 batteries, which are very suitable for both performance and operational difficulty.
We recommend you purchase the Grade A battery with a high quality and reliable warranty.
BMS (Battery Manage System, 1 piece)
Connectors (About 4pieces)
Others: EVA cotton, screws, ribbon cable, plastic pipes, etc.
Tool Used:
Spot Welder
Spot Welding Pen
Soldering Iron
Wire Cutter
Wire Stripper
Multimeter
Assembly Methods: 4 Series And 1 Parallel
Series(S): The way of connecting the positive and negative electrodes of two different cells is called series connection. As a result, the voltage of the battery pack will increase while the capacity remains the same.
Parallel(P): where the positive and positive electrodes of two different cells are connected in parallel. The result is that the capacity of the battery pack increases while the voltage remains the same.
Assembly Process
1. Place The Batteries
Before we connect this group of battery cells, we should use the multimeter to check their voltage of them to ensure consistency. It is better if you have a testing device to check the internal resistance. Without testing the consistency, the battery pack may cause an accident.
After testing the battery cells, we can arrange our cells as shown in the picture.
2. Put The Epoxy Board Between The Batteries
What is the epoxy board? The epoxy board is made of alkali-free E-glass cloth impregnated with epoxy resin by processing under heat and pressure. Which have extremely high mechanical strength, Insulation, heat resistance, electrical properties, and good moisture resistance properties. To protect the battery cells, we can put an epoxy board between each battery.
3. Fix Them With Fiber Tape
We place them in order and fix them with fiber tape.
The fiber tape is made of hot melt adhesive and forms a stronger tape that is resistant to tears and has better temperature tolerance than regular tape. It is explosion-proof and leak-proof, providing high-strength insulation protection.
4. Install Signal Acquisition Wires In Sequence With Connecting Pieces
Connect the cells using the connectors in series while connecting the indicator cables to the CPM and the cells. Don’t tighten connectors and nuts too tightly.
When connecting the voltage collection lines (equalization lines), do not connect the external protection board to avoid accidental burning of the protection board.
5. Fix Signal Wires With Screw
Terminal blocks are available as rows, but each terminal connects to only a single wire, which can prevent the loosening of signal wires.
6. Tidy Up The Wires With Tie Straps
After soldering the wires (the balancing leads and the charging-discharging cables), we can tidy up the messy wires.
7. Secure BMS With Thermally Conductive Tape
The thermally conductive tape for battery packs keeps the BMS in place and protects them from the shock of extreme temperature changes.
Besides, these tapes provide electrical insulation, which prevents short circuits and provides a barrier to BMS.
8. Connect B- Of To The Negative Of The Battery Pack
A BMS is one of the most important elements in a LiFePO4 battery, like the brain of the battery pack. It calculates the State of Charge (the amount of energy remaining in the battery) by tracking how much energy goes in and out of the battery pack and by monitoring cell voltages, which can prevent the battery pack from overcharging, over-discharging, and balancing all the cells voltage equally.
There are two main sets of wires we need to install, the thick wires and the thin wires. The thick wires are your charging/discharging wires and the thin wires are your balance wires. Not every BMS is the same, but most are similar. Your BMS will likely have 3 thick wires or 3 pads to solder on your own heavy gauge wires. These are the B-, P-, and C- wires (or pads for adding wires). We usually start with the B- wire. We can connect the B- of BMS to the negative pole of the battery pack.
9. Connect Positive Power Wires To The Battery Pack
If you connect the negative to the ground first then current will flow through the positive terminal to your body when you connect the positive terminal but when you connect the positive terminal first then while connecting the negative terminal the current will pass through the negative to ground wire instead of your body to ground as the resistance of your body is greater than the resistance of wire path and current will always flow through the lowest resistive path. Thus always connect the positive terminal first.
10. Check The Signal Lines In Correct Order
The wrong sequence may cause BMS to burn out!
11. Install Positive And Negative Power Lines To The Cap
The total input and output ports of the battery pack are assembled. The assembly of this battery pack is almost done.
12. Plug Signal Acquisition Wires’ Port Into Interface
The signal acquisition technology can provide accurate parameters for battery balancing, SOC estimation and BMS centralized monitoring to meet the actual requirements of battery packs.
Using the signal acquisition technology, the voltage signal, temperature signal, current signal, etc. In addition, data from the battery pack CAN be transmitted to the central control unit.
13. Fill EVA Cotton
After putting the battery pack into the shells, we can fill the EVA cotton.
EVA cotton can be shockproof, fireproof, and insulated, protecting the battery pack well. It can reduce the expansion force of the battery and improve the service life of the battery.
Battery Tests
1. Voltage Test
In this step, we can use a multimeter to check the voltage of the whole battery pack. Attach the multimeter probes to the positive and negative battery terminals. Then we can check the voltage on the screen. The multimeter’s red probe must be connected to the positive terminal, while the black probe must be connected to the negative one.
A fully-charged battery must indicate a slightly higher voltage than the voltage listed on the battery. For instance, a 12 volts battery will indicate about 12.8 volts when it is fully charged.
2. Charging Test
The battery capacity, or the amount of energy a battery can hold, can be measured with a battery analyzer. If you’re doing a capacity test, be sure to charge the battery until the battery reaches 100%. Then discharge the device until the battery is fully depleted. The charge and discharge rates of a battery are governed by C rates. The capacity of a battery is commonly rated at 1C, meaning that a fully charged battery rated at 150Ah should provide 150A for one hour. The same battery discharging at 0.5C should provide 75Ah for two hours, and at 2C it delivers 300Ah for 30 minutes.
3. Discharging Test
The discharging test of the battery is beneficial to the battery cycle life and discharge performance evaluation. We can use a professional device(Such as a Programmable DC Electronic Load) to check whether the battery works well during the discharging process, which can protect our battery and devices in further daily use.
When testing, there are three factors we need to pay attention to the port voltage of the battery, the resistance of the wire between the battery and the electronic load, and the temperature of the storm.
Summary
Thanks for reading the full tutorial on assembling the 12.8V 150Ah LiFePO4 battery! It is not hard for us to build a LiFePO4 battery. Which voltage and capacity of the LiFePO4 battery do you need? Welcome to share your comment below.

All About Solid Surfaces

“Vanity is but the surface.”
-Blaise Pascal
Pascal may have meant it in a different context. But the quote neatly fits in, here too.
Anywho, you’re here to know about solid surfaces. So let’s get to it. What are solid surfaces? In the simplest terms: That smooth material you see in bathrooms, and maybe kitchens.
But for a thorough outlook, let’s go through the article. Shall we?
What is Solid Surface?
Solid Surface is a man-made non-porous, low-maintenance material.
Looks like Solid stone + used for Surfaces = Solid Surface
Now you might wonder how a “non-porous” material helps. A non-porous material (as is in the name), doesn’t have pores. This means that solids and liquids can’t pass through it.
As such, it doesn’t absorb moisture. So, it’s also safe from mold and fungus. This in turn, makes it a suitable material for high moisture areas. This also means it’s easier to clean and maintain. For liquids, you can easily wipe them off. For dried up dirt, you can easily wash it away.
Okay, but what’s it Made Of?
Well it’s not a single thing. But instead, a combination of elements. To list them all:
- Alumina Tri Hydrate (ATH)
- Acrylic
- Pigments
- Polyester resins (alternatively, Epoxy resins)
It was used commercially for the first time, during the late 1960s. That’s 50+ years. Since then, it’s been used globally, in various forms, for a number of purposes.
Where is it Used?
It’s used for surfaces, such as counter-tops. Solid Surface material gives your kitchen or bathroom counter, the solidity and general appearance of stone.
Solid surface offers one-of-a-kind looks, blending creativity with natural elements. Since it’s hygienic and non-porous, it’s great for the retail, food service and healthcare industries, to name a few.
And solid-surface material gives your kitchen or bathroom counter the solidity and general appearance of stone.
What about Designs and Colors?
Solid Surface is an amazing material, for creative counter-tops, bathroom materials, laboratories, and so on.
It comes in a wide range of colors. From the most elegant of solid colors to the most creative of patterns, Solid Surface has it all. Your pick.
Some people like the solid color look. It looks elegant, and classy. Others prefer patterns of sorts, that feel more alive and creative.
Even in those, some like the appearance of marble. Whereas, others would rather go for granite. Let us know which type you like the most, in the comments section.
Plus, it’s not just colors and patterns. We can also mold it into any shape we want. Bathtubs, Sinks, Counter-tops, you name it.
Do I have options for finishes?
Definitely. Solid Surface gives you the option, to choose whichever finish you’d like to have among:
- Matte
- Semi Gloss
- Gloss
Is maintenance difficult?
First of, Solid Surface counter tops and sinks connect to each other, without any gaps. This leaves no space for water to collect, and for bacteria to grow. So, the hygiene level’s high here.
But let’s say something breaks, cracks, or gets scratches. What do you do then? You can sand and buff it, to make it look just as good. Broken or worn and torn sinks can also be refinished, to look new.
So to sum it up, no. Maintenance isn’t difficult. Quite easy actually.
Does it hold up?
Yeah, the material’s great and all. But does it hold up, to today’s standards?
Yes. It’s been over 50 years since its inception. Over 50. Yet even today:
- It’s used all over the world
- It’s being manufactured by various brands
- It’s quite popular and practical
Are there alternatives?
We’re not presumptuous. We’re not going to pretend, that it’s the only solution that exists. Yes, you can go for alternatives. All with their pros and cons.
There’s granite, marble, quartz, and natural stone. But we do prefer Solid Surface. It offers a ton of variety in colors, designs, and patterns. Overall, just amazing.
But do let us know which one you prefer, in the comments section.
Where to get these services?
So now you know what you need to, about Solid Surfaces. Of course you can still also do more research. That’s on you.
But if you’ve read the article, and you’re still here, you probably want these services anyway. If you don’t, we’re still glad you made it to the end. Really appreciate it, and hope you’d stay and read more.
But here’s the real question. Where can you get Solid Surface products and services from?
All about Location, Location, Location
It all depends on your location. Based on where you live, you can ask the locals. All you need to do is a little research, about where you can go for worthwhile services. And around the globe, you’ll easily find many trustworthy and reliable service providers.

Last post as a bfa student!!!
So, after I finished all that luster and all my prints were done, I came in for my final kiln Christmas as a bfa and my toilet tank top had exploded! The sink was fine, and all the epoxy fell off which was super nice because now it’s perfectly clean and smooth so it can be used again! But the toilet tank had a huge crater and a bunch of cracks coming off of it, and a bunch of broken stuff fell off under it. I think that since it was a fairly recently used toilet it had accumulated moisture in tiny pockets or pores and that’s what made it explode. Crazy!

So, I had to do some troubleshooting and decided to just take one from my house and figure out some decorations with gold paint. This was kind of sucky though because it was the day I was installing so I had to figure out a key part of my show in less than a day, which was stressful.

So one of the coolest parts of my thesis is the slime obviously, and let me tell you about it. It took like 5 gallons of glue and I think we ended up with about 15 gallons of slime in the end. It was SO much easier than I anticipated. I thought we were going to have to make it in small batches to ensure the connections between the pva and the borates were equally distributed but nope! I just mixed it by the gallon of glue right in the five gallon bucket. I made a purple, an orange, a green, a blue, and a pink. The purple and green were the most successful because they were so opaque and the other colors kind of got lost in the mix when I set them all out. So that’s something to remember for next time.
Also the menstrual blood I had saved smelled like a dead animal by the time I put it in that jar. Absolutely disgusting.

As for everything else, it all turned out so good!! The luster and mother of pearl worked like a charm! I loved how the period stuff came out. I painted the butterfly wires black, and also covered the part of my butterfly that stuck to the shelf with black so it was less noticeable. I’m thinking of covering it with some nail polish to make it match the iridescence if that works.. not sure. My mom is currently in possession of it as it’s her birthday in early May and she loved it so much. So next up was just to install... I just tried to make everything as close as possible to my original idea sketch. Shane was there to help me and after moving the tub and sink and toilet around and trying out shelf positions a few times we got it, really quickly. We got the bathroom stuff in position and installed the shelf!

We had to leave early though because no one could hang out with Kezia at home and my mom was working (she’s a pediatric er nurse!)
So we continued the next day, which was the day we had to submit everything so not gonna lie that morning we went in I was very nervous.

By the second day all we had left to do was replace that dang toilet tank top and set everything out, and figure out the toilet decoration situation. I decided to put some small things on the toilet seat cover so that I didn’t push my luck with the gold paint, which ended up being the same spray paint I used for the tub feet and the shell. I wanted to put slime in my little perfume bottles but we could get it to go in no matter what we tried so we just did veg oil and glitter instead. We filled the bathtub with a bunch of filler stuff and covered it with plastic, and then covered that with slime. We fixed the lights which took FOREVER. The slime didn’t quite behave how I expected, and because of this, I had to move really quickly to photograph everything and didn’t really get a chance to just look everything over and take it all in in person as it was together and installed. I didn’t realize this until I got home to edit photos. But it’s okay, it wasn’t really possible this time because I had a learning curve with the slime. When I install work like this again it will be different.

I took SO MANY pictures. And speaking of that, in the last days of working in the studios and installing, I took so many sad pictures of little odds and ends in the studios and hallways. I really missed everyone. But I took 235 photos in all of my show, including all the book pages. I stayed up literally all night from the time I got home editing, organizing, choosing photos, and I kind of regret that because I ended up making some last minute decisions I didn’t really want to make. I wanted to have a separate artist statement, the one I wrote earlier, and a project statement in my actual show. But in my craze of editing and organizing I thought it would be better to just integrate the two (especially since my thesis was so long) so that everyone didn’t have so much to read. Maybe that was a better idea anyway.

But, after turning everything in in the wee hours of the morning, I was finally done. And it really didn’t feel like it. It was really crazy to finish and be at home and that’s it. And there it is! I have reached my 10 image limit.
I think I’ll do another post in a few days talking about the whole post experience in detail, but this is it for grade-purpose blogs for this year. I’ll have a chance to post more photos ;) but also I feel like I could talk about this experience forever so I really want to come back and discuss more in detail after I have some time to consolidate my feelings and thoughts.
Thanks for reading if you are, and thanks to you Brian for everything! You are the greatest and most inspiring instructor ever! I’ll talk about you like you talk about Dr. Don when I’m your age. :) (also special shout out to Shane for taking so many great pictures of me installing :’) )
