The enCourage Kids Foundation Launches National Toy Distribution Campaign at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue
Tumblr media
The enCourage Kids Foundation (EKF) has kicked off their national Toy Distribution campaign in partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, one of their long-time partner hospitals, located in Manhattan.   A Delightful Experience for Pediatric Patients Jean Butler, President & CEO of EKF, led the initiative alongside Ambassadors Ryan Field, ABC 7 Sports Anchor, and Tony Richardson, Former NFL Fullback and Northeast Coordinator of NFL Legends Community. The trio, along with the dedicated staff at Bellevue, brought joy to the faces of pediatric patients, allowing them to select from a wide array of toys. From beloved Barbie and Disney Princess Dolls and playsets to thrilling Hot Wheels, Star Wars Starships, Ninja Turtle and Masters of the Universe Action Figures, Little Tykes Big Adventures playsets, Dungeons & Dragons, and more. Additionally, the patients had the opportunity to choose branded clothing generously donated by Nickelodeon.   Gratitude for Donors and Partners Jean Butler, President & CEO of EKF, said, "We are grateful to Toys, Tots, Pets and More (TTPM) and Nickelodeon for their wonderful donations to our event." "The children's excitement was palpable! It is deeply satisfying to know that our programs provide such comfort and joy to hospitalized children and their families."   William Hicks, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, expressed his appreciation, stating, "Thank you to EKF, Ryan Field, and Tony Richardson for bringing this wonderful toy distribution to the children of our hospital. Children often need extra support as they face health challenges. We are happy to have partners like EKF to let our youngest patients and their families know that they are not alone."   Longstanding Partnership and Support Gloria Mattera, M.Ed., CCLS, Director of the Department of Child Life & Developmental Services at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, expressed gratitude for the ongoing collaboration with EKF. She stated, "We are excited that Ryan Field and Tony Richardson have joined with EKF to bring smiles to our pediatric patients through this wonderful toy distribution. We are grateful for our long partnership with EKF, which has provided funding for music therapy and supported our clown, teddy bears, comfort kits, and other items that assist Child Life in the work we do with pediatric patients and families."   Bob Glaser, EVP/GM of TTPM, emphasized their pride in partnering with EKF, stating, "TTPM is proud to collaborate with EKF by providing toys that will brighten the summer for hospitalized children and offer them opportunities to play and simply be kids."
Making Hospitals a Better Place for Children
Founded in 1985, the enCourage Kids Foundation is dedicated to humanizing healthcare for children and their families. By funding impactful pediatric programs and supporting the Child Life Community, EKF serves nearly one million children annually. Their programs provide relief from the challenges of treatments, hospital stays, and doctor appointments while ensuring that pediatric facilities meet the unique needs of their patients. EKF envisions a world where every child, regardless of the difficulty of their medical journey, experiences joy, hope, resilience, and healing.

Just over a century ago, New York City tackled the “greatest pandemic in history” also known as the Spanish Flu, that infected a third of the world’s population killing nearly 500 million people and forcing New Yorkers to self-quarantine and wear masks in public. The City’s response, similar to the measures currently being undertaken today with COVID-19, is credited with slowing the spread of the Great Influenza of 1918. From fights over keeping schools open to temporary hospital construction and home-quarantining, the battle to curb the spread of influenza in 1918 is suddenly very familiar to New Yorkers in 2020. COVID-19 has impacted our lives in a way this generation has never experienced. But while exploring the Great Influenza, we see that New York City has an established public health history known for successfully slowing the spread of infectious pandemics, from yellow fever to cholera, typhoid, and polio. Visit our website to read more about New York City during the Great Pandemic of 1918. #nychistory #nyhistory #brooklyn #nychealth #nychealth #covid #rona #covid19 #coronavirus #urbanhistory #publichealth #manhattan #queensny #thebronx #statenisland #midtown #nyc #urban #urbanhistory #urbanism #brooklynhistory #nycurbanism #MapMondays (at Stuyvesant Square) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-pamQcnqhQ/?igshid=1pglspw5ljxc7

Hammond Report August 28 2021 From Pandemic Quarantino Jon Hammond - Daily Music and Stories from the organ player & accordionist Jon Hammond, today's music story about playing a special streaming concert to our Hospital Heroes in the NYC Health + Hospitals (yesterday) and I had another gig later - it was a big honor to be asked back to play on the "Music For The Soul" Program, beaming in through the magic of the internet! I played my new Hammond Sk PRO for the occasion - and I have been shooting some film again on a perfectly preserved James Bond Camera Olympus OM-4, as seen in the opening scene of "Licence To Kill" - I had seen that spelling on an Off Licence sign I took a picture of in London, now I think I'm getting what it means! Have a beautiful weekend folks, I'll be back tomorrow with another Hammond Report,
Jon Hammond

An organic peach. With an organic red plum next to it, only this photo came out best. 🤷🏻‍♂️ These two plus sliced organic canteloupe for $6.77. Junk food marketing - don’t get me wrong, God bless you - is up there with some of the best ad campaigns in history. . . . #fruitsbasket #fruitgram #organicfruit #organicfruits #eatapeach #peaches #peachtree #allmanbrothersband #deliciousfruit #nycfood #nychealth #newyorkeats #healthysnacks (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz5us3nAjmm/?igshid=ti5pifbp455l

Hate to break it to you but... . . . . They say that sometimes when you’re growing, it gets worse before it gets better. That’s never what we want to hear, but that’s the reality sometimes. One time, a person who hurt me badly said “They say our hearts break to let the light in.” I’ll never forget that. I hope that however broken you feel, you find a way to let the light in. If you’re having a hard time finding it, you’re not alone. Tell someone. You don’t have to do this thing called life alone. 🖤 ____ #breakthrough #healingjourney #peaceisthegoal #letthesunshinein #yourmentalhealthmatters #Blackmentalhealthmatters #growth #journeytohealth #healthandwellness #healingart #artasactivism #nychealth #breakdown #therapyworks #talkthruit #IamDarknessRISING #DarknessRISING https://www.instagram.com/p/BtZeQz2hU-x/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=pvfbs1gyuq9s

Today we’re featuring the work of Kuceli P. Mari, a compliance scientist in water ecology at the Health Department. As a lead inspector, Kuceli makes sure that building owners and vendors adhere to the various cooling tower maintenance and testing regulations to help prevent things like Legionnaires' disease .
As a part of our COVID-19 response, Kuceli has been part of the team writing and editing guidance documents to help businesses and schools reopen. Currently, she is working with our Office of Special Enforcement to conduct business inspections as more businesses reopen. These inspections include making sure businesses have a safety plan in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Kuceli has also been working many weekends at our Vaccination Hubs, helping more New Yorkers get vaccinated against COVID-19.
“What keeps me motivated every day is the feedback from the communities we serve,” Kuceli said. “The appreciation and acknowledgment we get everyday especially at the vaccination [sites] have been the best part of my day. As they walk up the line to get vaccinated, they always mention how impressed they are and how grateful they are for the assistance and effort put in place by [the Health Department.”
Thank you for all your hard work, Kuceli!
