Speaking of Iyami! I’ve seen some people speculate on the current ages of the sextuplets and Totoko and Nyaa-chan, given how Nyaa-chan’s baby is all grown up now, which implies the characters are aging in real time and I just happen to be neurodivergent enough to have been keeping tabs on how old the characters have been getting as the years go by, so I might be able to shed some light on the subject.
First of all! The characters from -kun that had established ages were the Matsuno brothers and Iyami, being 10 and 36 respectively. Totoko, Chibita and Hatabō are often shown in the manga and 60s -kun as being in the same class as the sextuplets, so they’re probably about the same age as them as well, although sometimes they’re portrayed as either older or younger depending on the story.
The timeskip between -kun and -san is never outright stated. What’s officially mentioned is that the sextuplets are “older than twenty” and that “it’s been about ten years” since -kun.
However! We have a more concrete number when you take into account episodes 3.5 and episode 4 of season 1, set in 2015. In episode 4, Matsuzō claims he’s been married to Matsuyo for 24 years. Taking into account that having children out of wedlock is very uncommon in Japan (it’s becoming more normalized in recent years, but it definitely carried more of a stigma 20-odd years ago), we can assume that the sextuplets were younger than 24 as per season 1.
Episode 3.5 helps us narrow it even further: in it, Todomatsu claims he rented adult DVDs five years before, which would only have been possible if he was at least 18 then, since that’s the age one has to be to purchase pornographic material in Japan.
Taking all this information into account, we can infer that the sextuplets can’t be any older than 24 and were 18 five years before 2015. This gives us a solid number for their age: 23 years old, as of 2015!
Until now, though, it hadn’t been confirmed that the characters were aging in real time but seeing that Nyaa-chan’s baby has aged since her last appearance in season 3, I think it’s safe to assume everyone has been aging as well! That would make the sextuplets as of 2023, 31 years old and Nyaa-chan’s baby, who seemed to be a few months old as of her first appearance in November 2020, around three years old!

have you watch the Takoyaki Party? how do you like it? I'm kinda satisfied cause I'm surprised by the descriptions about Totoko's growth😊she's such a nice girl who loves fish as always☺️☺️
OOC: I have! Funny you send me this ask, I was just about to talk about it on my main! EXTREMELY LONG RAMBLE INCOMING!!
Ahh what a sweet little movie.. While the wacky shenanigans are my favorite part of this show, I always still love a slice of life "nothing happens" kind of plot. And it couldn't have come at a better time honestly. I've been feeling like Totoko a lot lately.
As a character, Totoko hasn't really been focused on in depth very often, but it's clear that she's always had a problem with comparing herself to others. She always wants to be better than everyone else, and feels self conscious about it. She's also always trying to force herself into feminine stereotypes that don't really fit her personality or interests. It's nice to see that explored a little more here, though it's osomatsu san so they won't get too deep into it of course.
She's anxious at the pressure to become a "real adult" like Nyaa and her brother Fighting Yowai are. Specifically the focus here seems to be on having children. I mean when you really think about it, that's the supposed "end goal" of being what society says is a "proper adult" yknow? Especially for women. She's clearly feeling kinda behind when she's seeing Nyaa chan be an independent single mother, and now with her brother coming home with his wife and new baby. Totoko is nowhere near ready to be independent like that.
Sooo it's easier to just forget about real life for a while and hang out with the Matsus! They're always the same, ever since they were kids! They're not "real adults" either, but they seem to be carefree and having lots of fun every day! So everyone in town who has to work so hard, they can just party with the matsus for as long as they can!
The matsus are sorta anxious about their lack of independence too, but that feeling kinda lessened ever since season 1. It seems like over time they accepted it to the point where they're PROUD to be NEETS now, or at least apathetic to it. So to them, they don't really understand why everyone else wants the sleepover to last forever. Time stands still for them anyway.
Plus either way, while they are pressured by society to be "proper adults", it's kinda different for them as cis men. Totoko's focus on having children is something that comes with very different social expectations and baggage. Pretty much all women are expected to be mothers someday, and it can feel incredibly stifling and stressful when you know that there's a time limit on that. A time limit on finding a partner and settling down, thats terrible! Plus then, even when that happens, the idealized version is never the reality. At the party, everyone is so happy. The old guys are full of energy, and Nyaa's toddler is behaving as a perfect cute angel. But in the split second flashbacks at the end, we can see the tedium of their day to day jobs, Matsuyo coping with aging, the struggles Nyaa goes through to raise her baby alone, ...Dayon's cat dies or something.. idk
So isn't it easier to forget about that reality and hang around with the matsus, who always go at their own pace? That's way more fun!
I've also been thinking too, on a more personal level. Gosh this show is 8 years old. ITS 8 YEARS OLD!!! ITS IN THE THIRD GRADE! What a nightmare the passage of time is. So yeah I've been feeling like Totoko. And I'm sentimental about this show! For whatever reason, my brain decided to fixate on it for all this time.
The matsus were kinda my ambassadors to adulthood really. I just graduated highschool and was starting my first semester of college when I first watched this show. And the feeling of "oh god we're supposed to be adults but we don't know what we're doing!!" that went from being funny to WAY TOO RELATABLE super quickly. And man, back then I certainly didn't think id still be feeling that way after 8 years. I'll probably be feeling it forever. Buuut reality still goes on and time is passing, and we're all older and Nyaa chan's baby is a toddler now. But the matsus are the same, and for a little while we can forget about reality and party with them for a little while~!
Even if the matsus are reeeeeeallly sick of it..
And that reminds me of another thing too. When the matsus were like sick and dying and begging for sleep when the whole town was forcing them to keep partying... That.. was meta commentary right? Like, I can't interpret that any other way. Like the show writers are just trying to tell us that they're BURNT OUT. Which, let's be fair, that's understandable I guess. (I mean not to ME because I feel like the matsus have infinite stories they could be used for but. anyway.) If that's true, and the writers are just begging to let the matsus finally go to sleep. I'm kinda fine with it! I genuinely think that this movie is a PERFECT series finale. It brushes on the anxiety of adulthood that the show is known for, it gives a spotlight to the beloved side characters, and it feels like a nice calm little summary of the whole thing. We had a fun party with these guys, and we can go back and play with them whenever we get tired of being adults for a while.
...so yea! I liked it! :3
And I'll be ready in 20-30 years when they reboot it as Osomatsu-Ojiisan where the brothers are all middle aged lmao

Osomatsu San: Tougou AU
So as the title of my art says, here is my version of what the Tougou au looks like. In case you're wondering why Tougou himself isn't here, its because I had a hard time figuring out how to draw him without him looking crappier than he already looks LOL. So the way I envisioned it:
Tougou successfully kidnapped Osomatsu kun when he was 10, and raised him since, forcing him to help with heists. Osomatsu over the years took multiple attempts at escaping the old man, each time failing. Eventually he gave up when he reached 20yrs old and accepted his new life. He's still has his fun charm, but deep down empty of any happiness.
Atsushi is actually Tougou's bio son. Atsushi was raised by his single, drunk mom for a few years until he was 12yrs old. His mom didn't want to raise him anymore, so she gave him to Tougou in exchange for a lot of yen. Atsushi was scared and terrified of Tougou, he was even forced to do a few heists, which he wasn't good at. Atsushi was good with math so the old man taught the boy business and how to make money. Atsushi and Osomatsu somewhat got along, Oso comforting Atsushi whenever he was sad, terrified or even lonely like he did with his little brothers. Eventually when they got older, they grew distant and did argue once in a while, but they do have mutual respect for one another. Atsushi, not knowing about Osomatsu's brothers, did attend the same high school as them thanks to Tougou's connections, and thought he was high when he saw them. He got along with Todomatsu the most, and did fancy him a little, even if he did look like Osomatsu. However, he did tell Osomatsu that he met with his bros, Oso tearing up, feeling happy for the first time in a while, and asked Atsu if he could report to him every few weeks of their well being, Atsu agreeing wholeheartedly.
Hashimoto Nyaa Chan, or Reika Hashimoto has had a normal childhood with a loving family, but when she graduated high school, her life changed for the worse. She always dreamed of becoming an idol and took the initiative by becoming the underground idol star, Nyaa Chan. Her parents didn't agree with her life choice and told her that if she went through with this, she could never come back home. Reika wanted to prove her family wrong and decided to leave home. Unfortunately, one night after her performance, she got attacked at the back alley outside the venue. The bodyguards were nowhere to be seen and she assumed they fled. Before it got worse, she was saved by Osomatsu, who beat the hell out of the attacker. The attacker bled on the ground, unconscious, and Osomatsu carried Reika on his back as he walked back to his hideout. He tended to her wounds and helped her clean and wash up. Rei couldn't go back home and asked to stay with Tougou. He reluctantly agreed, under the condition that she'd work for him. After negotiating, they both would agree that Reika would continue her idol job, with a couple bodyguards protecting her during performances, Osomatsu helping too when he's in disguise. In exchange, 80% the money she makes go straight to Tougou, and she would cook for the group and clean their hideout during her free time.
Homura is also Tougou's bio child, but her mother took her away from him when she was a baby. when she was around 7yrs old, Tougou killed his ex wife and kidnapped Homura. Since then, she was forced to work under him during undercover missions. She is about 2yrs younger than Osomatsu and Atsushi, and 1yr younger than Reika, yet they are all kind to her and treat her like a little sister, Atsushi especially. Despite Atsushi and Homura being half-related thanks to Tougou, Atsu feels a close connection to his half sister. He would homeschool her so she would have an average amount of knowledge and not be dumb, Oso would play games with her and give her most of his food so she wouldn't go hungry, and Reika would have girl time with her and share personal thoughts with each other. Unfortuately, when she turned 18yrs old, she was forced to do indecent videos in order for Tougou to make profit. Osomatsu and Atsushi beat up Tougou when they found out, Rei hugging Homura tightly, both crying in emotional pain. There wasn't anything they could do, however, because all the copies of the videos were already sent out. Feeling nothing but despair, Homura ran away, going to Akastuka Ward by train, and headed to the top of a cliff by the beach, hoping to end her own life. Before she could, she saw someone that looked like Osomatsu, practicing batting swings. She came to his rescue when he was swept by the sea, and they've been going out since. While they were going out, Homura made the realization that these were Oso's brothers, and as much as she wants to be with Jyushimatsu, she had to go back in order to protect him incase Tougou finds them both. But before she left, Jyushi gave her his #14 wristband as a memory of their time together, causing her to cry more, but mainly from happiness.
Kinko grew up in a bad neighbourhood in another country, and grew up to be a thief and hooker. She was hired by Tougou to come to Japan and investigate Akastuka Ward because according to one of his informants, Oso's brothers have interacted with both Atsushi and Homura a couple of times without his knowledge, and wanted her to check in they could pose as a problem for him in the near future. She went undercover as the Matsuno boy's temporary neighbour, 'accidentally' losing her bras to inside their house and getting them back to get their attention. Eventually, she managed to spend the day with them, gathering info on their life and routines, only to be interrupted by Reika's supposed idol rival, Totoko. They 'made up' and Kinko told them she had to 'move back'. To tell you the truth, she genuinely enjoyed spending time with the boys, and told Tougou they weren't going to cause problems for him. She decided to stay with the group incase she was needed, and mutually got along with everyone and teaching all of them simple english. She loves to tease Atsushi, likes having conversations with Osomatsu about his brothers and have contests to see who can steal more wallets, adores spending time with Homura and showing her the ropes of surviving the hookup life. Most of all, she loves having one on one girl time with Reika.
Not gonna lie, i've had these backstories in my mind for a looooong time, ever since i've first discovered the Osomatsu kun fandom, just didn't know how to portray it. Hope you like the art and these backstories.
P.S: Kudos and apologies to anyone who read all those paragraphs 😂. I mean, DAMN! It's like I wrote a whole essay, didn't think it was gonna be this long.

Hey, I uh, I know you wanted a letter and its... haha well it took me a second you know! Of course I know what to say, a letter isn't hard for someone like me- it's a respectable sort of correspondence. Anyone s-should know what to say before they start writing!!! And I do! Ugh, half the page is gone- I MEAN. Okay.
I love you, so much, you're worth every bit of strife (that uh saw trap last time... maybe I'll let you do that again okay?) and trouble, and gosh. You're just so perfect for me. You mean so much and I love you! I-i want to be with you for the rest of my life and if that means I have to throw o-out Nyaa-chans pillow... okay maybe I can't do that but- ugh I'm out of space!!!!
I love you! I'm sorry!
Matsuno Choromatsu

one thing I never really talked about with Osomatsu that I loved was the girls
like the show, in essence, is about 6 identical brothers who are basically loser degenerates and they're fully aware of it, and so is everyone around them. but they're hilarious
then they've their childhood friend Totoko who they're all madly in love with
Totoko is also madly in love with herself
and then there's 3 other male characters that get some screentime, but... you watch the show for the brothers, you dont really want the other characters to get screentime
for me the exception is Totoko herself
she's so goddamn funny and I love her interactions with the brothers and just how she constantly rejects them
but I think in ep 1? or ep 2? they show an idol called Nyaa-chan. she's a catgirl idol.
and the only scene we get of her is one of the brothers (Choromatsu) is her fan (cause he's the anime nerd) and he's doing a meet and greet with her and is so nervous, but then Osomatsu comes in and ruins it by being a creep and ruins Choromatsu's chance to even talk to her
but she's a background character in s1.
but when its shown that she's Totoko's rival, she gets more screentime and they duke it out
and you can argue this in a feminist way. argue that the only two girls in the show (aside from the mother) dont get along and fight. but... ok first off
they have a fist-fight. the most unladylike thing. catgirls are always presented in Japanese media as cutesy and kawaii and gentle. and idols in Japan in general are supposed to either be that way or insanely oversexualised.
Nyaa-chan is neither.
so seeing these two have a blowout was very enjoyable for me cause it went outside the norm. Nyaa-chan even farted towards Totoko. I dont like that kinda humour in general, but I accepted it here. it fit.
but they start off hating each other but then Totoko finds out that Nyaa is a single mother. and this didnt exactly change their relationship. Totoko helped out with the kid while insulting Nyaa all the time, and thats when you realise, that's actually how they get along. they insult each other all the time but they actually legitimately care bout it each other
and they've started to act a little bit nicer to each other
very similar to like "hey you stupid bitch....... are you ok? did someone hurt you? like I dont care if they did but tell me their name and where they live"
I dont think Ive ever seen a female relationship like that anywhere, and D E F O not in anime
and the fact that Nyaa is now Totoko's go-to hang out friend now that Nyaa has been given more screentime, and Totoko helps her out with the baby
they're literally a family

Has anyone come up with a fanon name for Nyaa’s baby yet (like how we named Jyushi’s gf Homura)? Now that I think about it I don’t think they even said the baby’s gender in-show, so maybe it should be something gender-neutral?
