I don't think this movie will take more than 3 months to wrap and they're undoubtedly gonna go visit each other whenever they have time. It's just a 3 1/2 hr drive (or less) from Boston to NY so traveling would not be a problem at all. MA is also sooo beautiful in Spring! The perfect place for a weekend getaway iykwim😏😏😏! I'm also actually in Boston right now, and the weather's getting better so that's a plus!

Luca Guadagnino had been filming most of his recent films in under two months. So I’d guess they’ll be done by Mid May. Reading the script it didn’t seem like a hard shoot that would require much.

past experiences with the law (what was the problem?)

ny manifestation journey began with subliminals in august 2021, at the time I also found out about law of attraction. it was pain in the ass lol, looking back at all the crazy shit I was doing just makes me cry 💀 like I remember literally whispering to the water in my crusty ass water bottle before drinking it, bc it allegedly absorbes the frequency of my words and if I drink it my desires become true (or some shit like this) likeeee I just got into manifestation at that time, I obviously didn't believe it at first. I sill tried every method bc I was sooo desperate and wrapped up in doubts, limiting beliefs, etc...

I don't even remember how, but in january (or even before) I found out about the tumblr loassumption community. We were currently in the middle of the void craze, so I also gave it a try. didn't work because I didn't believe in myself, my conception of self was hella bad, I could barely even manifest something. in the last few months I've been trying to avoid the void (lmao) because I realised it's so much more energy trying to get it than actually manifesting shit. It's not true by the way, I know it's a limiting belief that the void is hard af, I know it isn't hard but it was for me at the time bc I was putting it on a pedestal.

Another significant problem is that I struggle to persist sometimes, so lately I haven't been manifesting anything specific. I've been focusing on my self concept or just feeling good in general, but I still feel like I'm in waiting mode. during school I was under constant pressure and I could barely handle it, so manifestation was a bit hard (I still have a few success stories tho) so all I could do is just wait till school is over and I can finally start peacefully affirming and persisting.

I also had to recover from religious trauma. since I go to a catholic school, the shit I hear every day doesn't really help either. I was constantly spiraling weather manifestation is a sin or not (even though I'm not that religious, thinking about it still caused me sleepless nights) , but I realised that it literally is what we humans are designed for, to experience God's divineness in human form. bc why would I worship something that doesn't benefit me in any way? only for the sake of being religious and humble? no, I would never do that.

yes, it might took me one year to actually start manifesting shit that sould be mine, but I'm gonna do it anyways bc it's never too late. (and I'm also going back in time soon so it doesn't really matter) I'm so sick of waiting for the epiphany that never comes, I should've just start applying the law right away but idk what I was waiting for tbh. there's literally no outer source of power, only me. I think I understand now what it means and I'm ready to begin my new life.

On Point With: Megami

If ComicCon and DragCon had a baby, she’d grow up to be this new queen! And in a modern queer pop culture where drag and genre cosplay are increasingly melding together, it will be goddesses like Brooklyn native Megami D.Vil (better known simply as Megami) who will be leading the freaky masses to a new horizon of performance entertainment.

Thotyssey: Hello Megami, seasons greetings! The heat just came on in my apartment today. This is great drag weather, isn't it?

Megami: It really is! Gür! I’m a Thicc Woman. I sweat walking to the train!

Oh me too, it's tragic! So, what were you more excited about these past few months: DragCon or ComicCon?

Ugh! That’s so hard! It’s like choosing between my children! Do I choose the pretty one, or the fun one!? I was really looking forward to both for different reasons. At DragCon, I got to see all my fav NY girls (from on Drag Race and off), buy their merch, feel beautiful! And this has been my 10th year going to NY ComicCon, so it’s been my yearly geek pilgrimage since I was 19.

I mean, for both Cons it’s so great to just be in a place where my weird hobbies and interests are celebrated; as both a Queen and a Geeky Cosplayer. Although, I did get to dress as Sailor Moon Darth Vader for NY ComicCon... so I suppose that edges out DragCon by a hair. Haha!

Understood! It actually feels like the worlds of drag and sci-fi fangeekery blend a little more each year, don't they?

They do! Crazy characters, stunning looks... they’re highly compatible. And I certainly try my best to make them blend as much as I can.

I started doing drag about two years ago when I won the Gay Geeks of New York cosplay lip sync show GeekSync (which I’m hosting at the West End Lounge for the second time this October), but I’ve always loved to do cosplay drag looks, even before I performed. 

It’s always been my goal to merge gay culture with geek culture as much as I can--to let all the queer geeks out there know, like, “Hey! It’s not weird at all to geek out about Star Wars and Game of Thrones as much as Drag Race, or...” ugh...I don’t know what gays like...”the gym!” Like the things you like with your full heart. Your geeky passions are what make you unique!

Werk! I was in the judge’s panel for Miss Nerd at Rockbar in June... your Bowie / Labyrinth look and number was a crowd pleaser!

Yeah. And I mean, I won Miss Fan favorite, so the crowd definitely responded to my geekery! I’m not much of a pageant girl, but I definitely already have some highly ambitious gags planned for next June. I’m coming for that crown! Haha!

You’ll be the queen to beat! “Megami,” by the way, is a video game reference, right?

Yes! Megami actually means “Goddess” in Japanese. I took [Japanese] for two years in college ‘cause I’m a super anime loving Otaku Weeaboo and thought I could learn enough to not need subtitles! (Spoiler: I did NOT. Japanese has three alphabets, and is one of the hardest languages in the world to learn).

But yeah, Megami D.Vil was inspired by the video game Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga ‘cause I’m a Goddess and a Devil. I know. Incredibly convoluted. Nobody understands my name. I have to spell it out all the time. But like I say at all my shows: I’m a Puerto Rican man pretending to be a Japanese woman who acts like a white girl who thinks she’s a black girl... so eat your heart out Rachel Dolezal! Step your pussy up! 

And Megami is actually my old cat’s name. So every time I go visit my parents and someone calls “Megami!” It’s very confusing for the both of us.

Are you, like, a JPop and KPop fan, also?

Oh I love KPop and Jpop! Koda Kumi, Twice!, Girls Generation, of course Utada Hikaru... there’s not a single self-respecting weeb out there who doesn’t know every single word to Utada’s “Simple and Clean.” It’s the weeb anthem! And I’ve performed songs in Japanese and Korean before. And in Spanish too, while I’m at it.

I draw my inspirations from all aspects of my life. If it’s my own Latin culture or gay culture or geekery or music... I will never be shy about saying “Hey everyone! This is an awesome thing I love and that inspires me! Love it, too!”

Side Geek Question: lots of fans seem unhappy with the casting of Ruby Rose as a lesbian Batwoman... even LGBT fans. What are your thoughts?

Okay, real talk. I wasn’t gonna watch even if, I don’t know, Ellen was Batwoman. Haha ...Maybe if it was like... Meryl... or Gaga... or Cher... Cher Batwoman would be AMAZING! I have two X-Men / Dark Phoenix tattoos on my arm, so I’m staunchly on the Marvel side of the fence in these kinda fights. I’m more upset that the godawful-looking Dark Phoenix movie is getting released than about Ruby being Batwoman. Like, Sophie Turner apparently graduated from the Kristen Stewart school of Non-Acting, with all 2.5 facial expressions she’s capable of emoting. I really, really wanted Disney to give X-Men the MCU overhaul.

But at the end of the day, fans (LGBT or not) will always get their panties in a twist about EVERYTHING! EVERY SINGLE THING! (Hey, myself included, proven by my previous statements).  Across all fandoms, these stories and characters are sooo precious to us Geeks. They were our friends, and reasons to keep going on and be brave when the world told us we were too weird, or too weak, or too queer. We all have deep connections with our fandoms. So it’s hard sometimes when a story or character that’s precious and personal fells like they’re being mishandled by greedy corporations. Art is personal.

You’ve been hosting Thirsty Thursdays at Mom’s Kitchen & Bar in Hell’s Kitchen for a few months now. There are certainly no shortage of queens in that neighborhood, but your show seems to be a hit! What’s Thirsty’s winning formula, and how did you land that gig in the first place?

Well, landing the gig was partially luck, partially just impressing the right people. Mom’s was looking for a newer queen to spearhead a Thursday show. They’ve never done anything like this, so they wanted someone they could grow with and establish something fun in a relatively new establishment. So I stepped in with a game plan and a few good recommendations, and we’ve just gone from there.

I think the formula that works for me has been choosing a different theme every week to build each night around. It forces me to come up with fresh material and numbers consistently. I’ve done themes like “Geeks & Gaga” (for the week of NY ComicCon and the A Star is Born premiere), “Ladies of the 80s,” “Extra Divas,” “Ladies Who Rock,” and many others. “Latina Night” and “Halloqween Spooktacular” are coming up very soon.

I think above all, I just like people. Aside from drag, I volunteer with the LGBT organization GGNY (Gay Geeks of NY) as their VP and Art Director. So I’m very used to talking to people, running events, and just letting my terrible personality shine! 

Well, it seems like you’re doing great work! And speaking of new gigs, tell us about The Creek & The Cave in Long Island City, where you will be premiering a new monthly drag revue, Gender Blender, on Sunday the 28th!

Yeah! The Creek and the Cave is a well-known comedy club that’s hosted a TON of the world’s best comedians. But they’ve been looking to expand and have different kinds of acts. So I’m bringing the Queer to Long Island City! I have a lineup of cosplayers and queens to kick of this monthly show with a geeky bang!

Wonderful! anything else to report as far as gigs or projects?

Well, on top of hosting Thirsty Thursday every Thursday at Mom’s Kitchen in Hell’s Kitchen from 9-11, I will be hosting GGNY’s Third Annual Geek Sync (the cosplay lip sync competition) Saturday, October 20th at the West End Lounge, from 6-8pm...

... premiering Gender Blender: A Monthly Drag Show, Sunday October 28th at Creek & the Cave, and in the near future doing a Miss Nerd 2018 Miss Fan Favorite show at Rockbar. And of course, whatever other little gigs I can wiggle my size 10 rainbows pumps into.

Final Fantasy X. I have it on PS2/ PS3/ PS4 and soon the Switch. I’ve played through it a million times, and I still cry at the end every time. And the sequel X-2 is the SINGLE gayest piece of media that has ever existed. The Sailor Moon costume transformations, High Summoner Yuna becoming the Pop Star sensation, Leblanc the Drag Queen. Gay gay gay!

Though I do plan on getting married to my imaginary boyfriend on November 7th because of Mass Effect... so it’s Sophie’s Choice... or Shepard’s Choice, actually.

Part one: Your ghosts. 

[7:30 am: Sunny borough of Queens, NY.]

You looked out the window to inspect the weather. There were some clouds, but the sky was a particular shade of blue that was noticeable enough to make it feel like Summer was finally invading. Looking up at it almost made you feel...infinite. You took a deep breath which filled every corner of your soul with the fresh, bittersweet scent that the lemon trees surrounding your building emanated, making you smile. It was yet another small reminder that everything was okay.

You had gotten up early for school, for once, making you able to have a real, hearty breakfast. The first one in a long time. You even managed to walk to school, instead of taking the bus, grabbing a cup of coffee at your favorite café on the way.

This, however, was not the case for Mr. Peter Parker.

[8:00 am: In another-not so distant-building in Queens, NY.]

Peter rolled around in his bed, running a sloppy hand through his hair. He stretched his limbs out as far as he could as he gently rubbed the slumber out of his eyes. A yawn or two were in place as well. He sat on the edge of the bed, trying hard to make the sensation of lethargy go away from his body. His bones ached and his muscles burned. Being a part-time vigilante had proven to take a toll on him, even if he had the ability to recover quickly. When he finally started to make sense of what was going on he turned to the alarm clock: Late, again.

“wHAT-OH, COME ON!” He raced out of bed and quickly put on his pants, not taking any mind of the red and blue suit that still covered his body. He rushed to the bathroom and put his hair in place, or at least attempted to. As he brushed his teeth, he examined himself on the mirror out of the corner of his eye and notices a small scratch across his right cheek. A battle wound to remember last night by. “I don’t have time for this, it’ll go away soon anyway” he thought to himself as he spit on the sink and continued to dash through the small apartment.

Peter ran through his usual route without any sign of stopping, he was determined to get to school no matter what.  trying to get to the spot where he usually met with Ned as fast as he could and praying to the god he was still there. Peter felt relieve come out of his body in the form of a desperate exhale when he turned the corner and found his best friend, the guy in the chair, standing there, waiting patiently. Ned turned around at the heavy sound of steps.

“Dude!” he half-shouted

“I know, I know late, I’m sorry Ned.” Peter started, already thinking about a million excuses for his tardiness.

“Dudeee!” Ned said again, this time louder and with wide eyes.

Peter stared back at him, confused as ever.

“Cover yourself up before someone sees you!” the alarm in Ned’s voice growing more and more by the second.

Peter looked down at himself, trying to figure out what he meant. The suit was showing underneath his hoodie. He had forgotten to put on a shirt. “Fuck” he whispered as he zipped the outerwear all the way up, hoping that would work.

“Ned” Peter started as he made his way next to his companion “What the hell would I do without you?”

“You would die, probably” Ned responded, only half-joking.

[8:30 am: Midtown School of Science and Technology. Oh boy, high school.]

You waited patiently for MJ on the steps just outside the school. You sighed, unsettled, as you looked around and didn’t see her. She was never late. “I guess there’s always a first time for everything” you reasoned. You waited a little bit longer before looking around once more, this time your eyes stumbled upon Peter’s, both of you turning away as fast as possible. You rolled your eyes at yourself. “Peter-freaking-Parker” you huffed. Just as you exhaled those words, MJ appeared behind you, letting her presence be known by the chuckle she immediately let out.

“What’s the deal with you and Parker?” she said in a nonchalant, almost sneering manner. Her sudden appearance making you jump.

“Hey, MJ. Nice of you to show up.”

MJ rolled her eyes before signaling the entrance. You both started walking into school and to your lockers.

“Don’t try to change the subject. There’s always this unspoken tension between you and Peter and it’s driving me nuts. You are so competitive with each other too, and I know that also annoys everyone in the team, even Flash, and he’s an asshole.” You paused for a second, trying to find a dumb excuse, a way to get out of this by revealing as little information as possible.

“I just don’t like him” you finally blurted out with a small shrug and continued walking over the shiny hallway tiles. MJ gave you a skeptical look to which you replied with another shrug.

“Really? That’s the best you got?” you raised your eyebrows in compliance with your own lie. “Fine. Don’t tell me. I’ll find out eventually”  MJ finished with a wink and an evil smirk before turning around and leaving you standing there, dumbfounded and afraid of what she was up to.

The bell rang: Finally, lunch break. You sighed with relief as you left for the cafeteria, you only had two more classes left and nothing had happened yet. You had been on edge the whole day, especially whenever MJ and Peter would interact, which was pretty much all the time since you all had the same classes. You kept trying to control your raging thoughts, hoping MJ didn’t really mean anything by what she had said earlier.

After waiting in line for your food, you made your way to the same table you always sat at next to MJ. Usually, at this time of day, MJ and you would have lunch in silence as you both read whichever book you were on that week, but not this time. The first thing you noticed was how MJ didn’t have a book by her side. The second, more alarming thing, was that she was seated next to Peter.

“What’s going on?” you said in a stronger tone than you had hoped, glancing towards Peter and then back at MJ.

“Well, as official captain of the decathlon team, I thought we needed to have a bit of a meeting.”

“What, right now?”

“Mm-hm” MJ simply replied, derisive as ever. “We won’t be able to do it after class since they are closing the library early today, so we might as well do it now.”

You stared at her intently, trying to figure out what she was doing. “Well, what about the rest of the team?” you said as you carefully placed down your tray on the table.

“Oh, they are the reason I am here.” Even though MJ sounded serious, the stupid grin on her face told you otherwise. “The team came to me, telling me that they are having a lot of trouble studying with you guys.”

“I-I don’t understand” Peter finally spoke for the first time since you had arrived “What’s that supposed to mean?” You glanced over at MJ, the same question in mind.

“Well, they are a bit concerned with how you treat each other and how it’s been affecting the team, and frankly, I can’t blame them. You are always coming at each other, interrupting lessons just to say something snarky about one another and constantly competing to see who knows the most, which is not what teams are about.” You could tell MJ was really being serious now.

A scoff left both Peter’s mouth and yours as you both crossed your arms and pouted like children being scolded.

“So, what are you saying?” You said, still with your arms crossed.

“Well, the team and I came thought of a way you could make it up to us.” The smirk creeping back to MJ’s face. “You will both get together, study the material and come up with the questions for the next team meeting. The team depends on the questions to perform well on the actual competition, so, no pressure.”

“WHAT? ARE YOU CRAZY?!” Peter couldn’t contain his shock, but before any of you could keep on protesting, MJ got up and left for class as the bell started to ring. You both sat there until it stopped ringing, looking at each other in what seemed to be a mixture of awe and hate.

After school you started to head home, still mad at MJ and not being able to grasp the concept of spending time with Peter, more than you already did anyway. You felt a bit foolish, you knew you shouldn’t hate Peter, what happened between you was a long time ago and you didn’t like to hold grudges, but he was clearly mad at you as well and you just couldn’t help it. After a while of swimming in your own thoughts, you decided to turn around and head for Peter’s apartment, maybe you could finally resolve this...plus, you really needed to start studying for decathlon. You walked through the streets of Queens, your feet knowing the way to his place by heart, you used to go there so often before after all. Right before you entered his building, you decided to take a detour to the store next to it and buy him some gummies, take it as a gift of reconciliation if you will. When you finally got to his door, you took a deep breath as you got the courage to knock on the door. Before your knuckles could so much as brush the piece of wood in front of you, you were met with a breathless Peter Parker. You exchanged glances before you looked down and noticed his hoodie was unzipped, revealing the red and blue vigilante suit underneath it. Your eyes opened wide with awe, a gasp leaving your mouth before your mind could even process what you were looking at.

Small Nov Wins

1 - cant bring myself to study, got out of bed 10:30-ish am. While lazing around i read royal servant and do random internet stuff and watched romee's vlogs. Ate breakfast and i somehow has no appetite?? This is rare. e, cicil kompre began at 15:30 pm (i know, i waste my time a lot). Pengumuman wahana mpi wow yay kalideres makara and budi asih

2 - the weather was pleasantly cloudy. poli anestesi anak, simul. went to what used to be calais, its called flavola now. at this point i quite need some calories because i only ate bubur ayam and its like 2-3 pm ish. Eventually the hunger is gone, arrived home at about 4-ish, drank protein to curb my hunger (nanggung dinner). dad said sumn that annoyed me so after maghrib i just lazed in bed, not feeling like doing anything (even though there’s lots of exams and hw lmao), fell asleep

3 - woke up at 2 am, prated, randomly searched for angel - chancellor and taeyeon’s lyrics and i basically wept at 4 am. i assumed the song was just like,,, a guy talking to a girl, his angel, you know. EXCEPT,,,,,,,,. the 2 MVs was also rly222 beautiful 🥺. Poli geriatri today, didnt even see patient because there was no more at that time (status salin nadia). ate ichiban salad (surprisingly quite good) at dm bcs i rly do be functioning better outdoors, made matcha latte with full cream milk ((powder)), cicil PT

4 - can finally wake up late. finished 1 sitasi pt, made ikk ppt, bujing lina called about diarrhea and nausea meds, laddered the leader for tomorrow’s exam and it,, was,,, me,, group call with shiko. frantically studied for EA

5 - PT (finished in 45 mins), simul as a leader, with STEMI, VF and hypoglycemia case. somehow made it through. i suck at dosages omggg. PP by car with mom (not rly that tired) but i SLEPT after i got home and had no mood to study helpppp

6 - did my first swab test today. i pushed the doctors hand when she’s doing oropharyngeal swab im sorryyyy 😂. slept. matcha. cicil kompre

7 - still havent finished ikk (deadline: today), and still havent studied for geri and ikk AND i still managed to take a nap. why. Read a bit of kompre. Not sleepy after matcha, but insted i reread bj alex and tsubaki chou lonely planet until 2 am the next day #rippriorities

8 - im having matcha latte seven days in a row as of today :))))) woke up at 10:30 am, went to flavola with atikah and got strawberry yakult (tasted like es mony), arrived home at abt 7-ish am and there no dinner, so i drank protein and ate japota honey butter. My breakfast was chicken porridge, so my diet is sooo liquid today. Rip proper nutrition (ate buryam, lumpia, japota for the whole day and drank 3 beverage). Cicil kompre and studied geri

9 - suma geri, slept, cicil kompre, ny head kind of hurts

10 - my head still hurts, suma ikk with dr herqu and dr retno, didnt take swab result by car because the TRAFFIC in soetta so my brother took it. Thankfully negative.

11 - lulus kompre alhamdulillah, the examiner were Prof Saptawati and dr. Dani from THT. Dr dani still remembered me :"") they were very kind. Went to tamel for first wahana: klinik makara UI. Picked up masker first at mahmudas place, and then went to depok. On the way i was interviewed by maba 2020 wtf im so old. Cleaned up my room with the fam, printed sumn in barel (its quite empty there)

12 - first day at klinik makara ui. i WALKED. such wow. fixed my shoes in kutek. had breakfast in barel and bahari for lunch-dinner. somehow i felt very drained. bought Dapur Alya (nutella and regal) and 2 salads from Salad Point since there was 11.11 promo. Put all of them in the fridge. Read Fools and its sooo good omg

13 - had salad and left over bahari rice for brekkie. went to clinic by grabbike :)))), had my first teleconsultation experience today, a chemical trauma case. suma ea with the help of shiko

14 - woke up at 5:20 ish and i jogged a bit at ui lmaoo. fisip - ft - fisip. By 6:30 im already back at my room. 1 hour can be spent a lot of different ways, it turns out. Washed my clothes. Ate monstercheese pizza. Slept a bit. Went to blok m with ara (she was late as always, surprised her with koi milk tea), ate futago ya (greasy cheesy milky goodness, enak tapi eneg afterwards), bought red bean bread at la mouette, bought discounted onigiri bento box at papaya. We went to m bloc space, looked around, ate gelato at kebunide (blueberry: yum, fresh, kiiinda feels artificial, salted caramel: delicious but makes me thirsty) and did photobox at connectoon. Walked to mrt asean but turns out!! for weekends mrt is closed at 8pm. Took grabbike to sudirman, seeing the pretty city and people just hanging out, playing skateboards on the wide sidewalks.

15 - planned to go jogging with salemba frens but i woke up late (06:45), so i just lazed around. Ate onigiri bento (super worth it for 25k for the proteins), fell asleep again 10ish to 14:30 lmaoo. The doms from yesterday was present even on the right side of my lower back 🙂 the red bean bread made me feel full, and the red bean was not too sweet, which i love. Reviewed some meshwork materials i missed. Fianti called and we talked abt her and hari

16 - had mujigae for sahur and fish bite for iftar. The fish was not as soft as fish streat, but the flour was definitely better and crunchy. But it doesnt have the seasoning micin like fish streat do. The pasta was quite a lot im in food coma afterwards. Fell asleep, and my stomach was so gassy that i woke up in the middle with a headache that does not play around. Fortunately it dissapeared in the morning

17 - breakfast is rice kimchi and abon lmaoo just pretend it makes sense. The scrubs i ordered finally arrived. I fell asleep AGAIN, WHYYYY. Lost my streak in DL, i guess i can stop using it for now.

18 - finished reading blood link, girlll i thought the human died at the end. Did not buy food today wow. Took a nap and cicil kompre.

19 - brekkie at barel. Helped measuring antropometry today at clinic, and also measured my own. The fucked up thing was that i THOUGHT my body fat is still at 28% compared to the past (dr rina's research). So i looked at the old paper AND. I USED TO HAVE. 35% FAT 🙂 even my memories are in denial and are fooling me. All this time i thought i was at 28 🙂 did swab at rsui. The one swabbing was from fkui 2012 and we had small talk. It hurted more than lmk :( now this does feel like drowning in water (cause before i said "nah its not like water in nose"). Took angkot back to tamel, bought piscok lumer pocin and its soooo gooood ugh

20 - i feel like if i have breakfast with leftover rice and abon and sozzis i get hungry faster lmaoo. Ordered ken karaage from kukusan, yaa okela for 25k with ongkir. Did online posbindu education through wa. BTS BE COMEBACK 🥺 i maximized my wifi time (no wifi at tamel) so i listened to the whole album. My mobile data is at 200MB lol. Read a good longreads from the atlantic, about down synd and genetic screening. The writing is so so good im just blown away. And teary eyed.

21 - ran a bit, solid class (gastro, rheum, infection), embryo, webinar about sleep by dr Gita Anindyajati, SpKJ, bought ayam geprek gold chick (lotsss of oil since i ordered tempe, jamur, egg, bought pop cookies. matcha cheese was actually better than i expected (the combination somehow fits), dark chocolate and marshmallow is very chocolatey like mom’s brownies, and vegan strawberry cookie with a hint of mint. i wonder how they replace the egg. I wonder why after i run i dont feel hungry for a moment. bloating just gooes away

22 - joined kris' healthy weekly event (lmao) in tamsur. They went to epiwalk first. Its difficult for me to run w mask, ngl. Went back to tamel, embryo, ate leftover meal from gold and chick, felt somehow drained to the bone so i just laid in bed and lazed and lazed. Theres no soreness, but the weakness was generalized lmao. Ordered bbq chicken almond salad from salad point, it was actually quite fulfilling and delishhh (added chili sauce to the dressing). Literally laid in bed from 7 until i fell asleep and woke up at 6 the next day. Finished readin shame application lmao

23 - i still feel tired ckckck. No doms, but i feel like i just want to lay down. got DV patient today at clinic, its most likely derm numularis??? Ate salad and dark choco marshmallow cookies in the evening and that cookie. Is so damn sweet im just thinking about the increase in my blood sugar. And i like sweets so!!! Never thought id find sumn too sweet. Washed my clothes and cicil ukmppd (i put things about studying ukmppd in habitica now)

24 - ate tanoshi sushi and ufo ramen for bfast, ate the sushi again for lunch and after waking up from my sleep i tried kokku ramen (so so, but the egg yolk's good)

25 - bfast: superbubur, protein shake and cookies. (did not make me feel full long enough). Ordered burger from EATG (so so, burger bener is better) for lunch. Last day at makara ui. Ara arrived coz shes staying here in tamel. Waiting for mom to arrive from cibubur, she arrived at about 20:30. I passed out at home

26 - first day in pkm kalideres, i volunteered to be pj to avoid RSUD. my room is a mess, i feel tired after i go back. maybe its the physical withdrawal (?) because i dont walk like when im on klinik makara. came to pkm thinking i wont do anything (orientation only) but the 6 of us ended up going. i was at igd. i saw nail extraction and injected ats for another patient 

27 - talked for almost an hour with the doctor at poli lansia. went home, felt sooo tired, i slept and actually showered after maghrib. originally planned to go to sbux but i was just tired af. my mood was horrible at home. 

28 - turns out i started my period today. i havent studied at all during pkm kalideres era. embryo. slept again. read some manga by nishin something with the psychological and BL genre. 

29 - embryo. cut my hair, showered, and felt better. fell asleep on dr gita's lecture. Drank cimory banana milk with a bit of matcha powder. I dont know if its the sleep, or a bit of caffeine, but my mood feels better and im more awake. Cicil ukmppd with a slow pace. Read itasaku ff. Slept at about 2 am

30 - surprisingly, i dont feel sleepy when i wake up. poli anak today, surprisingly i got perinatology case (jaundice). presented it on pleno. for bfast i ate 3 slice of bread (2 with meat and cheese, 1 choco and cheese) and protein shake, lunch: a slice of choco cheese bread and a banana, fell asleep, dinner: 1 bakwan, a banana and nextar. i can feel that the calories i got today is even less than what i usually got (and usually i already try to limit calories that i am counting the intake amout and made sure im not too far from my bmr lmaoo (~1100)

Weekending

Happy Sunday friends! How are you doing?  I'm hoping you and your family are healthy and figuring out creative ways to find enjoyable things to do.  Something I've been thinking about this week is my realization that when crisis happens I've learned to turn toward gratitude and get a bit tender, I suppose.  Crisis reminds me of the precariousness of life and I find myself feeling a bit vulnerable.  Although it may sound odd, I'm actually happy that I have evolved to this response.  In my younger years it may have caused fear and possibly even upset but definitely not gratitude.  I just received a similar reminder with my mom's terminal illness last summer and her ultimate passing.  It's crisis that reminds me we only have one (life) and it is delicate and short. This has been a time for me to work on forgiveness and to give my flawed self and others grace for past mistakes.  It's a time to remember that all people and animals deserve compassion and a hope that, as I continue to age, I am able to remember these lessons and engage in gratitude, forgiveness, and compassion more frequently, without first the prompt of a crisis. On to our weekend:

In The Garden - Can you even believe summer is on the horizon?  Well it is, whether you're ready or not, so time to button up those springtime projects!  We've enjoyed a beautiful week here with temps in the 70's.  I have planted my warm-weather crops.  I'm not finished, but the majority are in.  We have a woodchuck hanging around, again, which means we may be sharing the harvest until my fencing gets installed.  Fingers crossed that my temporary fencing keeps him away from the crops he loves. We have one more raised bed to complete and, honestly, I'm not sure that's going to happen until fall.  Our business has  gotten very busy again, which we're grateful for, so household projects are once again pushed to the back burner. Because I pulled out all of our strawberry plants a few years ago, we will be purchasing berries from our farmer's market.  I believe we should see them start to appear in a couple of weeks.  For those of you in warmer climates, I'm sure you've seen them in your yards and markets for a bit.  We are not only behind due to our zone, but it's been a bit cooler and overcast so they haven't been able to ripen and get juicy and sweet. We are, however, harvesting asparagus and it is sooo delicious.  I didn't get sugar snap peas in early enough so they aren't quite ready, and our radishes, herbs, and greens are oh-so close.

In The Coop - the girls are happy again which means plenty of eggs.  It's so funny how the production dips.  I think it's been dipping with the weather changes.  Can you say diva's???  I've never noticed this happening in past years but this flock seems to be very sensitive to colder and wet weather.  Simply put - their average number of eggs increases with relatively warm and sunny weather.  It changes by about 2 dozen per week. They have been enjoying finding all types of bugs and greens and sunbathing.  When it's warmer they tend to forage in the earlier parts of the day and then return to the comfort of their outdoor coops to rest from about 1 o'clock on.  They don't go out much after that. It's a pretty rough life....

The Business - well, we returned to the farmer's market last Sunday.  It has been nice to return and, for the most part, has gone very well.  We've seen a lot of new faces, which is great.  I wish it didn't take a pandemic for them to begin shopping at the market, but hopefully they realize how integral local farmer's and maker's are to the community.  Our meat and veggie vendors have been selling out every weekend so I'm really happy for them. We've changed our set-up so customers aren't able to handle the products so we can ensure when customers make a purchase, their products have only been touched by us.  And we follow the CDC guidelines when making, packaging, packing, and selling them.  So, although it's a change (which is understandably difficult) and I suppose inconvenient, my hope is that people feel more comfortable because of it. We are very (VERY) fortunate that online orders have continued to come in (as in, we are now shipping 6 days a week instead of 3 days a week as we've previously done) so we are back in full production.  Some of our craft shows have already cancelled for this year and we anticipate that the remaining likely will too.  We had assumed that from the start, so we have tried to set ourselves up to be prepared for that loss of income.  We are so grateful that our products are able to be shipped.  Some of our friends either don't have a website set-up or can't easily ship their items.  It definitely takes some creativity to figure out how to stay in business for many of them. At The Grocery Store - so I went grocery shopping this past week.  Because we usually eat so many fresh fruit and vegetables I decided it would be nice to go stock up.  It was a lot quieter then my past 2 trips which was wonderful.  And pretty well stocked!  I went to a large grocery store plus one of the health food stores in our area.  At both stores I saw empty shelves where flour would go, and still no Amy's brand refried beans (my favorite).  The large grocery store was also out of dish soap and household cleaners.  They finally had paper towels and toilet paper.  It was a limited selection but it was at least a selection.  Other then a man screaming and storming around because an employee asked him to put a mask on, all went well.

Oliver - he's doing well but he's definitely acting a bit older.  I mean, I know he's 10 years old so he's up there, but he's starting to act more like his age now.  He's sleeping a bit more and not so peppy.  He's also not as excited about being out on the deck choosing instead to pretty much be at my side 24/7.  His hind end is causing a bit of discomfort I believe - not sure if it's his hips or his spine since he has problems with both.  No serious pain (I check regularly) so I'm assuming maybe some aching.  He is on medication and it works because I accidentally forgot it one day this week and he was definitely out of sorts until I realized it and quickly gave him his dose.

Jack - Jack is, well, Jack.  He's been doing fairly well although he's back to posturing at Oliver and trying to bully him whenever I'm not looking.  You know, the same old - same old....  He's enjoying the windows being open and spends his days roaming room-to-room so he can sit in each and every one.

DELICIOUS veggie burgers

In The Kitchen - It remains a busy place.  I haven't been meal prepping as much so I'm in there a bit more then usual throughout the week.  We've been making banana-based ice cream as a special snack some days and I've been experimenting with sourdough recipes and techniques which is always fun. Saturday I had oats with a banana, flaxseeds and berries for breakfast and Jay had hash and eggs with a side of berries.   Lunch was simple - a big salad (greens/peppers/onions/roasted mushrooms/dates/pepitas/cabbage/balsamic vinegar/hummus/quinoa) plus a half of a super delicious veggie burger that I made for me and a burger and chips for Jay.  Dinner was Enchilada Stacks (chicken and cheese for Jay and black bean and veggie for me) with corn salad and salsa. Today it was oats again for me and a breakfast sandwich for Jay.  Berries on the side, of course.  We had the market so if we both attend, I bring a salad and some fruit and Jay gets lunch there from one of the food vendors.  Dinner was something easy -  Mac & Greens for me (dairy-free macaroni and "cheese" with greens and peas) and a grilled steak and homefries for Jay.  We had a side of broccoli. Our part of NY State is in phase 1 of reopening.  We are faring very well during this uncertain time and feel incredibly lucky that we, for the most part, work from home, have a roof over our head, and a garden to tend. I'm hoping you had a wonderful weekend as well!  Do tell - did you do anything fun or productive?  Did you read a good book?  Cook anything delicious? Link Love: Did you realize that you need Peanut Butter Bread in your life?  I didn't either, until I tried it.... It's good!  It's dense but still moist, even on day 3.  If you do decide to make it, do not over bake it.  I took mine out at barely done with just a bit of dough attached to a toothpick inserted into the center and it was perfect!  I added non-dairy chocolate chips, because, well....chocolate.  (The Kitchn) Have you been looking to add more houseplants to your life?  I have and this site (not an affiliate link) is an online store that provides a great deal of information and I'm finding it very helpful in determining what's best for each room (i.e. low light, pet friendly, etc.) (Bloomscape) And then something quite disturbing that you may not even thought of.....mad cow disease and cosmetics.  It really does show the importance of reading and understanding every single label for not only what you put in your body but on your body as well. (Nutrition Facts) I think these will be the next veggie burger recipe I'll try.  They look DELICIOUS.  And I agree with Robin about adding a touch of BBQ sauce to all of my veggie burger recipes (that's the glaze on the veggie burger photo up above from my lunch this weekend).  It really does add great flavor.  (Green Eggs And Yam)

Keeping it short and simple.

It's not about palm trees, surfing or partying with 18 year old's, it's so much more than this. So happy I finally settled in, met such nice people...I am more than happy that I get to stay for another quarter. UCSB's quarter system is tough and goes by sooo fast. Thank god I have some more months to actually live here and not only settle, study and leave. I appreciate the time and realize how perspectives are changing and it feels hella good already.

Just some thoughts:

Different and new perspectives, ikigai (favorite new word), finally settled in, thankful, stopped planning in advance, living the moment, flu and consequences of my bike accident had finally come to an end, new interests, thankful to stay longer than one quarter, having the best roomies, weather is changing, travelling soon to San Francisco, Seattle and Vancouver, shocked and laughing about the fact that I have to learn how trading and hedging in financial terms are working, wallstreet, NY Cheesecake, hiking, learning, flexibility, confidence, happy about not knowing how future will look like, discussions, deep talks, ballet, yoga, wine, new shoes, love my life, book about emotional intelligence, pumpkin butter, rice everyday, windy, growing relationship (L is the best), met new people from Switzerland and France who are fun and closer to Germany according to Hofstede, Mexican dance, studying through the entire night, singing, excited,...and the list goes on.

So far, so good.

This Hating Game - A Klaine Prompt Big Bang Fic

Inspired by this prompt : Kurt and Blaine couldn't stand each other in high school, maybe one was a jock/cheerleader and the other a nerd/glee clubber. Or they were bitter rivals for competition solos if they were both in glee club. Now they both live in NY and their friends set them up on a blind date, not knowing they went to the same high school

Eleven years ago

God that letterman jacket is heavy.

But you would have to pay Blaine a lot of money to take it off, even in the abnormally hot weather they’re having.

From what he gathered, the red and black piece of clothing is the only shield he can use in this school.

The only thing that will keep the bruises and the hits and the taunts at bay.

So it may be heavy, and polyester, and yes, a little bit smelly, but Blaine will wear it until he can leave Ohio behind in a trail of dust.

“Oi, Anderson.”

Blaine is torn between snickering or rolling his eyes.

He does both for good measure. “Yes, Puckerman?”

The wannabe badboy throws his arm around Blaine’s shoulder and pulls him close to walk down the halls. “You settling down alright?”

“Uh, yeah, yes I suppose.”

“Nobody givin’ you any trouble?”

Blaine looks up at Puck and smiles. “Not since I joined the team.”

Puck smiles back. “Good, good. And how’s it goin’ with the ladies?”

Blaine frowns and shrugs Puck’s arm off him. “Puck, you know--you know I’m gay right?”

“Guess I forgot,” Puck replies with a look of innocence that is far too practiced to be honest. “But you know who else is gay? Finn’s bro.”

“Would you look at that,” Blaine deadpans, even as his cheeks heat up. “What a coincidence.”

“I know right?” Puck is literally beaming now. “So it’s settled.”

“What’s settled?”

“You’ll go on a date with Hummel, and that way, we can triple date with Cheerios.”

“Who says I’m going on a date with him?”

It’s not that Blaine minds going on a date with the Cheerio co-captain--Kurt Hummel is all long, agile limbs and blue eyes--, he’s really protesting for the principle of Puck (and probably Finn) pushing the two out gays together.

“Oh c’m’on bro,” Puck pleads, lightly punching Blaine’s shoulder, “Quinn wants her bro to have a date or she won’t get out with us, and--”

“And you really want to go on a date with her?”

“Yeah.” Puck pauses before wilting in front of Blaine’s glare. “Among other things. Please, Blaine, come on, I’ll owe you.”

“Ah, now you’re talking.”

Blaine doesn’t know why he finally agreed--50% to get Puck off his back, 50% to actually go on a date with Kurt, probably--but he tries to calm himself down.

It’s just a date at Breadstix, with Puck and Finn.

Puck and Quinn are already making googly eyes at each other, and Quinn misplaced one footsie too many for Blaine’s liking.

If Finn could hurry up with Rachel and Kurt, that would be awesome.

Otherwise Blaine is just going to eat the whole basket of breadsticks, no matter how stale they are.

“Sorry we’re late, Kurt couldn’t--”, Finn starts as they finally arrive, but a glare and a well-placed elbow make him stop, “I mean, I couldn’t figure out what to, um, wear?”

Blaine barely holds in a chuckle at that, since Finn is wearing his usual “date outfit” of clean-ish shirt, jeans and letterman jacket.

As a matter of fact, the three of them are wearing their jackets.

Blaine decided to wear a bowtie, so at least he earns point for originality, doesn’t he.

Kurt sits down in front of him, and Blaine has to remind himself how to breathe. The co-captain of the cheerleading squad looks …

Amazing.

Stunning.

Casual, with his fitted jeans, white shirt and black waistcoat, but still classy.

That shiny brooch does wonders.

“You look good,” Blaine tells him with a crooked smile as an ice-breaker.

“I look great,” Kurt replies haughtily before dropping his eyes to his folded hands on the table. “But thanks.”

Blaine knows his cheeks are heating up, especially because Puck keeps on giving him sideway glances.

“You don’t look half bad either, Blaine,” Rachel says maybe a tad too loudly, and Blaine nods in acknowledgment.

Looking up, he sees the quick angry look Kurt throws her way before returning to him, and for a moment they just look into each other’s eyes.

Kurt’s cheeks are dusted pink and he snatches a menu to hide his face.

If anything, Blaine finds it very endearing.

“You do look good.”

Blaine peers up from behind his menu, to see Kurt watching him. “Hm?”

“The bowtie--it’s a nice touch.”

“Thank you.”

“A bit nerdy, sure, but I can appreciate a good accessory.”

Blaine smiles now, smoothing down one of the sides of the bowtie.

But before he can reply--

“Though it is a bit ironic, don’t you think?”

“Ironic?”

“A jock wearing what’s usually a nerd’s outfit?”

Blaine clenches his jaw. “I can’t be part of the football team and a nerd?”

Kurt lets out a snort of laughter, followed by Quinn and Puck. “Um, no, that’s not how school hierarchy works.”

“Too bad.”

Kurt rolls his eyes at Blaine, and if Blaine continues, he’s going to grind his teeth to dust. “What, you want us to believe you are sooo layered,” Kurt teases, slamming the menu down on the table and leaning towards Blaine.

“Um, Kurt, I wouldn’t--,” Puck, of all people, starts, but Blaine holds his hand up.

“No, Puck, let him continue,” he says, sickenly sweet.

Both Puck and Finn know that tone.

It usually precedes a storm of epic proportion--Azimio still remembers it.

“So nice of you to let me speak,” Kurt replies, tone just as sweet.

Their smiles could only be described as tight, and Finn exchanges a look with Rachel, who gives Puck a pointed look, who glances at Quinn for guidance.

“Um, guys, let’s order, I’m star-ving,” she cuts in with a wide smile and a flick of her blonde hair in Kurt’s face.

He blinks and Blaine leans back in his chair. “Excellent idea.”

The date doesn’t improve from there, but at least it doesn’t delve into a full-fleshed fight.

It’s when they all get back to their cars that it takes a turn for the worse.

Namely, when Finn and Puck start kissing Rachel and Quinn like they’re going to war and Kurt and Blaine are left to stand on the side like two awkward fifth wheels.

Blaine tries his best to look at anything but the two kissing couples and the boy next to him.

God knows he went into this date willing to have it ending with Kurt and himself engaging in the same activities, but now that he’s talked to the guy?

Yeah, no thanks.

Kurt sneaks a look at him, trying to catch his attention, and Blaine slowly, as slowly as possible, turns his head towards him with his best look of disdain.

Kurt tilts his head towards the two couples and nods a couple of times, his eyebrows raising, as if suggesting …

“Have you lost your mind, Hummel?” Blaine hisses, recoiling from Kurt. “What exactly in that disaster of an evening gave you the impression that it was going to end in a big tonguefest?”

The kissing soundtrack ends, but Blaine cannot look away from the look of fury and shame that takes over Kurt’s face.

“Like it would be such a burden to try and improve this shitty evening with some make out with me?” Kurt retorts before sticking his nose in the air.

Blaine opens and closes his mouth a couple of times, looking for support from one of the bystanders. Funnily enough, none of the foursome looks his way.

Such an interesting sidewalk.

“A burden, maybe not,” Blaine replies, his temper getting the best of him. “But definitely not a pleasure either. You think this is all a game?”

“A game?”

Kurt’s voice is back to being sickly sweet, and it makes Blaine see red.

“Yeah a game. Are you here only so you can put a notch on your bedpost? Did you kiss the whole football team to prove something to yourself?”

“Blaine--”

“Buddy, you should stop right th--”

“No, you know what,” Blaine continues, unable and more importantly, unwilling, to stop now, because his crush on Kurt and his hopes at a high-school relationship just crashed and burned in the most ugly way, and he’s pissed. “I get that you want to defend him, because he’s your brother, and you want to defend him, because you feel like shit for everything you put him through and, or, because you are attracted to him or something--”

“Hey!”

“He’s got a point, Noah.”

“Hey!!”

“--but I’m done trying to coddle the poor little cheerleader who was bullied and uses his position at the top of the food chain to bully back.”

“Ex-cuse me?!”

Kurt stepped closer at some point during Blaine’s rant, and they’re practically in each other’s face.

“I see you, Hummel,” Blaine says between his teeth, his cheeks burning, “and I see that you entertain yourself by looking down on everybody that you deem beneath you. Guess what--you’re not better than anybody in this school, and you should get used to be average for the rest of your life.”

“How dare--”

“Guys, see you tomorrow at practice. Ladies, goodnight. Kurt … well, see you around the school, I guess.”

On his way back to his car, he can hear Quinn’s whisper echoing across the parking lot.

“Didn’t know he had it in him.”

Today

Blaine smoothes down his black shirt and checks his reflection in the mirror across the restaurant.

Unique was adamant that this was the blind date to end all blind dates--nay, the last blind date he would ever need to do, because his date was his soulmate.

Setting aside the fact that maybe, just maybe, Unique had a weird passion for Blaine’s love life, he was willing to try.

The appeal of romance, the thrill of maybe finding the one man who would make his heart race? Yes, Blaine was all for it.

Unique had only agreed to tell him the first name of the Mystery Soulmate, and that he was hot, and that he would wear something red.

And so shall he.

Hence the red pants.

The fact that they showcase his ass like no other pants in his closet is a definite bonus.

His beard is trimmed, for once, Blaine made sure to be on just the right side of hispter.

3/16/17-3/21/17

I have been really stressed out lately, so I decided to go on my first trip by myself to San Francisco. I stayed with Brandon, an old friend of mine, and he was such a great tour guide. I’m usually the one who does all the planning, but this time I was finally able to just sit back and let Brandon take me wherever. I haven’t had so much fun in a while, and I’m so happy I chose to do so because I really needed it.

Day 1:The flight there was pretty enjoyable. I had the aisle seat and there was no one between me and the man by the window, so we had plenty of space. I downloaded some episodes of this drama and it made the time pass by pretty quick. I got to eat my Chipotle during the flight, which was definitely the highlight because how often do you get to eat Chipotle that many feet above the ground? Brandon picked my up and we got In-N-Out. We haven’t seen each other/talked in a while but it was just like the old days. I met his roommate, Tim, who works for Google :O and that was cool because GOOGLE!

Day 2: We woke up pretty early and got breakfast. The food wasn’t amazing but the coffee was decent and we’re both coffee addicts so that’s all gucci. We went to so many places this day. Golden Gate Bridge, Rodeo Beach, Twin Peaks, Haight Street, Lombard Street, Japantown, Fisherman’s Ward/Pier 39, Golden Gate Park, and Yojimbo for ramen. The view at Twin Peaks was breath taking. One top of all that, the weather was just perfect that day! 

Day 3: We had breakfast at the Gastropig. Brandon wanted to go there because he wanted to get the Bacon Slut but he ended up getting something else. Went drove up to Mount Tam and did a short hike to the top. The view was gorgeous! Then, we stopped by Indian Rock Park which was a chill little place. Afterwards, we got tacos from the taco truck and ate it by Lake Merritt. It was pertty nice. What was even better is that I finally got to try macaron ice cream sandwich. Now, I don’t really like macaron by itself but with ice cream, it is amazinggg; I got the coffee hazelnut flavor. We then chilled at Robert Crown Memorial Beach. I like how the beach is so close, and don’t have to wait until summer to go to the beach. It’s just so peaceful sitting by the beach and watching the planes land/take off. For dinner we went to this mac and cheese place. It was sooo good. Mine had garlic, bacon, and breadcrumbs. At night, we watch Finding Dory, and I just passed out.

Day 4: We drove an hour to Shark Fin Cove and it was totally worth it. When we got there we had to hike down to the cove and I was scared at first because it was really steep. At one point I just stood there and about to give up but I decided to go for it. I was so glad I did because it was one of the most lovely places I’ve seen. It was so nice and relaxing just watching the waves splash onto the rocks. Some rocks were really smooth because of the impact of the waves. We were able to just chill and watch nature show off its beauty. The thing I love about California is that beaches and stuff are so close by that you can just grab and blanket, go there, and simply just chill. We went at the perfect time where the flowers were bloomed and it just made it look even more beautiful. Next, we went to Santa Cruz beach and I got some yummy food: funnel cake and this spiral potato thing. We rode on the Sky Glider and even though it was cold, we had lots of fun. For dinner Brandon took me to this German restaurant in San Francisco that he’s been raving about. At first I didn’t want a beer but I got attracted to this one beer that was mixed with lemon soda and it was sooo good! I also really enjoyed my food! Before heading home we decided to give Grizzly Peak another try because last night was too foggy. We still weren’t able to see too much but I’ve seen so much on this trip that it was alright. 

Day 5:  Ella, Brandon’s cat, woke me up early so we just cuddled. Felisha came and picked me up and we took the Bart to Streatfood where there was a bunch of food trucks we could choose to get food from. We got some korean fried chicken, kimchi riceballs, and empanadas. We were going to get ramen too but ended up being too full. Then, we walked to SF MoMA because my friend was kind enough to offer me free tickets. We saw so many cool things. I think I like this one more than NY MoMA. When it was time, we headed back to pick up Alisha at Berkely and then we got ice cream at this popular ice cream place nearby. I tried the Earl Grey ice cream and it was soooo good and I still crave it up until now. Too bad there aren’t any that I know of in Maryland. And now the BEST part was dinner; we went to this crab boil place that Brandon recommended. It’s those places where they put a mix of seafood and sometimes corn, sausage, and potatoes in a bag and everything is soaked in this delicious sauce of your choosing. I chose to get shrimp, King crab legs, and corn in my bag with cajun garlic seasoning and it was AMAZING. After dinner, Alisha wanted to see Brandon’s cats so they actually came over and played with Ella and Tangy. 

That basically wrapped up my trip. The next day I just BARTed to the airport and boarded my flight. It was such a fun trip and it reminds me of how much I love traveling. There’s just so many things in this world waiting for me to see. I really appreciate my friend, Brandon, for showing me around and making this trip so stress free.

Pandemic memories…part 5

There have definitely been some positives in all the heartbreak that has been the pandemic. One of them is outdoor dining in Boston in all seasons. In an effort to help support the restaurant industry, the city granted permits for sidewalk and street dining and its been amazing! We happened to get an unseasonably warm weekend in November and did our first dinner in the North End, Boston’s little Italy. We got to eat on a narrow little street between the old brick buildings and felt like we were in Europe. I so hope the city keeps this post-COVID and designs more for people vs cars. It’s been fantastic.

Since we were on our own for Thanksgiving we decided to do a mini trip to make it feel special and booked a cute AirBNB in western Massachusetts/Hudson River Valley NY area for a couple nights. It was just what we needed to kick off our first ‘Hochstetler party of 3 Thanksgiving’.

We came back to Boston the day before Thanksgiving so Rick had time to prep our meal for the big day. We skipped the Turkey in favor of short ribs. Why not?! ;) It was kinda weird to be ‘just us’ on Thanksgiving but special at the same time. We FaceTimed with family (thank goodness for technology!) and did the best we could to be ‘virtually’ together.

As December came, we wanted to make Christmas special for Kai but knew we couldn’t go home to Ohio. South Boston had a socially distanced Santa visit and we found a way to have a virtual FaceTime with the big guy too!

From experience, 9 months into the pandemic, we knew that without outdoor activities to keep us occupied (which were limited in December in Boston…cold but not enough snow to head north for skiing) … 2 weeks off around Christmas from school/work would end up being waaaaay too much screen time for the whole family. We weren’t comfortable getting on a plane but desperately wanted warmer weather…so a 1400 mile road trip down to Florida it was!

Another pandemic benefit…school and work anywhere! Here’s Kai ‘raising her hand’ in class as we drove down to Florida. I was in the front seat with my computer working and Rick was our chauffeur. ;)

Before we headed south we were extra cautious with a quarantine and then got to spend 2 weeks with our good friends who we rented a couple AirBNBs with. The girls were sooo happy to be together and we loved the sense of normalcy. It made what could have been a sad holiday (Kai cried when she realized she couldn’t see her grandparents over the holidays 😢) a super fun memory.

And just like that…it was 2021…and COVID remained. There was good news on the horizon with vaccines approved by the FDA but it felt like an eternity before there would be enough capacity that we would be eligible to get one. So we continued with masked outdoor activities and avoided the indoor ones.

We loved the ice castles in New Hampshire and Kai became quite the little snowboarder and skier this winter with her first chair lifts both on skis and a board. Bye bye bunny hill!

Then for winter break in February we booked a trip to play in the snow in Vermont with two other families.

Vermont required a test and by this time the testing capacity was amazing and drive through tests were super easy. Another one of those ‘never would have imagined moments’…a drive through for a nasal swab.

But it was soooo worth it. These two families have been our saving grace through the pandemic. While we have largely quarantined from everyone else…our kids did home school together a couple days a week (which Kai sooo looked forward to), played together periodically and the adults did backyard and roof BBQs together even through the winter. These are the pandemic memories I hope we all remember.

Then mid-March…what felt like a mini-miracle happened…Kai started back to school 2 days a week! Almost a year to the day after she was sent home ‘for a few weeks’…she got to do in-person Kindergarten.

And that began the light at the end of the tunnel…but we weren’t done yet…to be continued in part 6.
