At some point early on I stopped dictacting to my child what she should eat and instead focused on education around the nutritional value around food while also letting her (within reason) learn the lessons of her diet affecting her body, tiredness, energy etc while also teaching her how to cook for herself (food safety, how to etc) as an effort to deal with her picky eating choices
She gets herself up, puts herself to bed, goes to and from school of her own volition, and for the most part cooks her own meals (she's nearly 16)
These days she writes her own grocery lists, and I just do the shopping for her
I'm not a big fan of food wastage and as a solo mother it was also an easier choice budget wise to be buying things she would actually eat
Her list for the coming week comprises of:
Protein bars
Weetbix
Up & Go
Almonds
Chicken tenders
Black forest chocolate
Spicy Tomato munchos
(Everything in moderation I suppose 🤭)
As the parent of a Neurodivergent teenager I am absolutely taking this as a win
