The frangipani tree, called tipanie in French Polynesia, takes its name from the Italian perfumer frangipani who invented a fragrance similar to the flower of this tree. In addition, to have an intoxicating scent, the flowers of tipanie, in various colors, are magnificent.
The first frangipani trees took root in Tahiti in 1852 thanks to the nurseryman Mr. Abadie, originally from Valparaiso. It is the Plumeria genus which is the most widespread in the fenua. It has several varieties whose origins come from Central America, Mexico, Cuba and Colombia.
The origin of its common name, frangipani, is the subject of several explanations. We have retained the story of the perfumer Frangipani. In the 12th century, the Italian Frangipani made a highly appreciated perfume that European explorers found four centuries later when they arrived in the Caribbean on this tree. The name of the perfumer is then simply attributed to the tree.
In Polynesia, the tipanie is used to make very fragrant neck or head crowns.
Flowering all year round, but more particularly from October to November, the tipanie produces magnificent flowers with five petals. The flower has an intoxicating fragrance. There are several varieties producing single or two-tone, white, yellow, pink, yellow or red flowers and even a dark garnet that is highly sought after by Tahitian mamas.
Recognized for its olfactory properties, the frangipani flower is used in perfumery in the form of an absolute. As a top, middle or base note, it brings an exotic, honeyed and almondy component to cosmetic products. In Asia, the infusion of tipanie flowers is applied to the body after bathing for its pleasant fragrance and its invigorating action.

June 30th 1857 saw the beginning of the trial of Madeleine Smith for murder.
It was labelled as the ‘crime of the century’, and even now, 163 years on, the Madeleine Smith murder case continues to fascinate criminologists and forensic experts around the world.
Accused of poisoning her lover, Pierre Emile L’Angelier,- and with a clear motive to do so - the authorities could have very easily thrown the key away. But instead she got away Scot-free. Opinion remains divided over her innocence to this day.
As a 20-year-old in 1855 she began a secret affair with Pierre Emile L'Angelier, an apprentice nurseryman from the Channel Islands. The two met late at night at Smith’s bedroom window and wrote passionate letters to each other, which would become evidence against her.
During one of their infrequent meetings alone, Smith lost her virginity to L'Angelier.
However her parents, unaware of the affair with L'Angelier, whom Smith had promised to marry, arranged for a fiancé for her within their upper-middle class community. He was William Minnoch.
Desperate now, Smith attempted to break her connection with L'Angelier and, in February 1857, asked him to return the letters she had written to him. Instead, he threatened to expose her in an attempt to force her to marry him.
Early in the morning of 23 March 1857 L'Angelier died from arsenic poisoning. And after Smith’s numerous letters were found in his lodging house she was arrested and charged with his murder.
It emerged that she had been spotted in a druggist ordering arsenic, signing for it as MH Smith.
Early in the morning of 23 March 1857, L'Angelier died from arsenic poisoning. After Smith’s numerous letters were found in his lodging house, she was arrested and charged with murder.
Despite this, and evidence that she had signed for the deadly doses of arsenic as MH Smith – Hamilton was her middle name – the jury of her peers, middle class, returned a not-proven verdict.
There has been a number of books written on the subject, and there’s a no shortage of articles online about the Madeleine Smith case, here is an article at the link below asking if she was guilty.....

All I know about Duarte is that he's handsome, married with four children and lives on a pistachio and almond farm. He kinda has that closeted guy look to him and secretly enjoys cock on the DL. Now that's all the imaginings of my sorid mind because he is probably a very nice, straight and respectable man. He just comes across that way to me.

LIII - Mr. Smith’s Yellow Rose-Bay
I am bound
and
I am broken
my heart is open
every word
is spoken.
Words I tell myself.
And it is the actual truth,
the living moment,
and time is now.
The blabla
to avoid my inner self.
To rationalize.
To avoid
what the heart
is singing
and revebarting
into the night.
I LOVE YOU,
that's all.

Japanese-American nurseryman in San Leandro, California prior to the forced relocation of Japanese-Americans to concentration camps in World War II. I love this photo because it’s such a rare delight to see photos of anybody who isn’t white having fun in the 1930s-40s. Lots of serious, portrait-style photos but not a lot of silly poses and smiles.
I don’t think it’s an accident that the only photos you see of Japanese-Americans in history textbooks discussing “internment camps” tend to show either huddled masses of scared faces or stiff family portraits in traditional cultural clothing. It’s difficult to relate to a formal portrait and it’s easy to sympathize with a crowd suffering from an evil not shown in the photo. The people in them look old, distant across history, stuffy, victorian maybe. But when you see a happy, healthy, smiling face that looks like he could start talking to you at any time, like he might crack a joke or shake your hand, it’s different. You feel how horrifying it is that he was marched out of his home with his whole family to a concentration camp in a desert. He could smile, he could laugh and joke, he had a deep, full, rich life that was upended by white supremacy. The government of this country, while supposedly fighting fascism abroad, was continuing its gruesome project of colonialism and white supremacy. The same government that “won a world war” and uses the fact that our geopolitical interests incidentally led to the liberation of concentration camps in Europe as evidence of moral superiority and justification to invade, colonize, and destroy countries throughout the world to this very day was simultaneously rounding up one of its own hated minorities to put in prison camps.

A bend in space-time Season 2 - [Chapter 23: Azure dust into the Void]
[Chapter 23: Azure dust into the Void] Links : AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
Summary: Rin goes to old ghost Wayne Wilson's house to complete her part of the deal that allowed her to find Klaus back in '61.
Excerpt
I gaze at his spectral eyes. I can't materialize him completely as I would for myself, but I can make his gnarled old hands tangible. It's not difficult for me: I've done it often for Ben, ever since that day in 2019 when I allowed him to punch Klaus in the face. Effortlessly, I materialize the old ghost's fingers and place there the daisy plant. He shudders, just as Ben did earlier. And with trembling emotion, he places the flower in the soil that will be its new home for life.
"Some gestures can't be forgotten," I tell him, admiringly.
I close my eyes. At that moment, I can feel him almost as tangible as I am, from his fingertips to his wrist, his spectral energy echoing mine. I feel I'm capable of doing more: materializing his forearm, his elbow, almost as I do with my own matter, every day. If Klaus were here, there's no doubt: we'd be able to bring him back for a while.
As he arranges the little flower, he realizes that all this is real, as he rakes brown soil over the young roots. A gesture he had performed a thousand times before as a nurseryman, and which he had sorely missed. I have planted the entire contents of his satchel for him. But today, he is completing the work himself.

How New Zealand Appropriated Kiwi Fruit
By 1922 cultivars of Actinidia chinensis were available commercially with nurseryman, Hayward Wright, from Avondale, now part of suburban Auckland, describing the plant in his catalogue as “a wonderful fruiting climber” which bore a highly valuable new fruit that ripened over a long time during winter. It provided, he claimed, a welcome addition to the relatively meagre range of winter fruits.…
