Album Number Four Hundred Ninety Eight.

“Foxtrot” is the fourth studio album by Genesis, released on 6 October 1972 on #charismarecords. It features their longest recorded song, the 23-minute track "Supper's Ready".

My copy is a Gatefold on Charisma Records - CAS 1058

The album was recorded following the tour in support of their previous album, #nurserycryme (1971), which saw them gain popularity, including a well-received slot at the Great Western Express Festival, Lincolnshire in May 1972. The album was written over the summer of 1972 and combined songs that had already been performed live with new material worked out in jam sessions. Recording began in August with John Anthony, but sessions were prone to tension and disagreements. After a short Italian tour, sessions resumed with Dave Hitchcock taking over production duties. The cover was the final #genesisband work to be designed by #paulwhitehead, featuring a fox wearing a red dress. Book "GENESIS, from one fan to another" by Armando Gallo 🙏👍👏❤ (Omnibus Press 1984). Armando was (is still ?) a photographer of the band and this book is a prized item on my book shelves. I have photographed from a page regarding April 1972 when Italy's Fans saved the band ! TRESPASS went to no.4 in their album charts, above YES, ZEP, LENNON, CRIMSON ! So I finally finished a Thing. This is my redesign of one of my favorite Genesis albums--the 1970ish classic, "Nursery Cryme." It's taken me since 2015 to design and finish this damn piece, and literally a week or so after the last strokes were applied I was designing the next one--the 1972ish Genesis classic, "Foxtrot." Look for it sometime in 2025. The photos show the pencil drawing/design, and the final painting.

Frantically getting my vinyl in before I leave town again, and for some wild reason, playing these two records back to back, over and over and over, is how it's unfolding.
