act of intention: day fourteen

today i did something more internal to improve myself. i don’t like counting intangible work as an aoi, but this is something that will help me as an older sister, and that makes it the most important thing i’ll probably ever talk about.

i facetimed my siblings to see how they were doing, and i could tell they were exhausted; they had a long day of travel yesterday, and they didn’t have the energy to be their busy, playful selves. my brother was especially hit by it. he’s spacey on a good day, so he could barely keep up a conversation with me when i saw him. i went in to tell him i that noticed it, and he replied asking “what?” because he hadn’t heard me.

for context: when we need someone to repeat themselves, my family says “pardon” or “pardon me” instead of what. there are a lot of positive and negative ways that this can be interpreted, and i believe in the positive ones, at least as far as i’ve thought about it; my parents believe it’s right, and i’m going to remind my siblings of that to teach them consideration through that practice.

so i started to remind him. first i tried a head tilt, which is usually enough to remind our sister, but he didn’t cue in. so i started prompting him: [brother], what do you say when you don’t hear someone?” i was gentle, but firm; i know from experience that consistency is key when it comes to child rearing.

he still didn’t get it. as a matter of fact, he wasn’t getting me at all; he had completely zoned out, fidgeting in silence. this was where i should’ve tuned in to him; dropped the reminder he’s not able to absorb, told him he was tired, and let him go with some loving and gentle words to take to bedtime.

but i kept pushing. i didn’t get angry, or escalate my tone, but i still tried to get him to cue into an expression of consideration while failing to show it to him when he really needed it. i let my beliefs about what i would’ve needed get in the way of seeing what he needed. that’s exactly what i’m not supposed to do as his older sister.

so as of today, i’m learning when and how to let things go with them. consistency is important, as long as they’re able to retain the lesson. if they’re experiencing immediate physical (hunger, tiredness, pain) or emotional (shock, anger, sadness) obstacles that stop them from thinking about anything, much less about rules, not only do these take priority ahead of discipline, they push it out the window entirely. then, once their needs are taken care of and their minds are in one piece, i can correct their earlier behaviour if it makes sense to do so, and do it in a gentle and firm way.

this is what they need. so this is what i’ll become.

The Galactic New Year is here! The Lion’s Gate Portal is activated and ready to create greatness on August 8 (8/8). The Lion’s Gate Portal is the unification of the Leo sun and the fixed star Sirius (which represents wealth, abundance, luck, and good vibes).
