I always loved to think that Fish is the glue that holds the gang together and is the entire reason they stick with eachother.
I also think this means hes managed to convince Chicken into holding weekly movie nights and they seldom ever agree on what movie they want to watch.
Like Steroids wants to watch an Akira Kurosawa film or whatever film nerds watch and YV wants to watch all of the Sharknado movies in a row with no breaks while Robot wants to watch sorting algorithms for 3 hours.

Some very old OCs of mine, which came from a nuclear throne mod I created, Hell’s Gate, when I was like... 13.
I’d say that it shows, but I would absolutely design characters like this even now.
COMMANDO - The undying soldier
CRAWLER - Rebel of hell’s army
DAMNED - Revenant of the ship’s platoon
DEVOTEE - Acolyte of the new machine
FLESH - Priest of the old flesh
FREAK - A rotting mistake

Poll to help determine who wins the elections during the final arc of my motw campaign.
It's the summer of two thousand sixteen, and you're a resident of New York city. Strange events have been happening geologically since late twenty twelve. The government has been talking about forces beyond our knowledge, people have gone missing, and now civil war has broken out in Egypt, Britian and New Zealand, with strange talk of them involving ancient gods, vampires, and wizards respectively. And worst of all, from what you know nuclear disaster has claimed St. Luis.
A few weeks ago, mysterious broadcasts have revealed a global conspiracy, and an underground war between those trying to unveil the conspiracy and those trying to maintain it, protests have been sparked throughout downtown Manhattan, the sky has been turned red, and new forces gain power in the city as the American government slowly implodes, and the police are recruited as shock troops by those trying to maintain the veil.
Yesterday it was revealed that the conspiracy was not just one of power, but one of reality, as a fight broke out between protesters utilizing supernatural powers, with a warrior in flaming armor, winged humanoids, and a woman with unnatural speed and invulnerability defended the protests from the police. It has now been revealed that more thinking beings then humanity inhabit this earth, and that magic is provably real, with entire underground neighborhoods existing below the city surface that house many of these beings.
With any semblance of a human government gone, the rebellion against the veil is now holding elections to see who will lead the city after the war is won.
Your Current candidates are:
The Sun Mage- The man who started the rebellion to reveal the magical world to humanity, a sorcerer who defected at the age of nineteen, having trekked across the country, and lost a leg in defense of his cause. He has been known to be idealistic, rejecting formal structure, and refusing to have any sort of headquarters beyond his apartment in Chelse. He's popular among commoners, both in the underground and the surface world, but the military and higher ups in the revolution are skeptical of his ability to organize properly. He appears as a young man, usually wearing a long coat and hat, with a hook prosthetic leg, tan skin, and long hair.
Claire Adams- A human who was once part of a monster hunter organization (seeming tied to several Ivy Legue schools) that maintained the veil, she helped push her organization into the rebellion, and championed radical praxis in order to break the veil and militarization of the rebellion. She is probably the most radical of the rebels, embracing full rights for creatures thought to be dangerous to humanoids, such as vampyrs, demigods and lycanthropes, and possibly even supporting the restructuring of the economy to distribute wealth away from species privileged under the old system and fully integrate humanity into the magical world. She appears as a young woman with pale skin and black hair, seeming to be part of the emo/scene subculture, and usually wearing her full monster hunter equipment and crossbow.
High king Maryanne Obelisk- Once a normal human girl who tried to avenge her brother who was killed for disobeying an order from a sorcerer, she lost her humanity in her quest for vengeance, being bitten by the previous king of vampyrs (Arthur Pendragon) and taking his throne after defeating him and banishing him to England. She is one of humanity's, and many other downtrodden species, biggest defenders, once having been living proof of humanity's competence in the face of magic. She's been the one most willing to respond to disasters, though she has known to be ruthless, and the vampyrs working under her might not share her sense of justice. She is the most beloved of the leaders among human activists. Like all vampyrs, she appears as a humanoid with white scales, a large snake like mouth, and black eyes.
Elric of Vinland- a travel from an unknown place, possibly forwards, backwards or sideways in time (though such things are mysterious even to mages). He's been one of the most aggressive warriors of the rebellion, traveling across the world to start and aid uprisings, and make previously hostile factions sympathetic. Most famously, he helped attack the sorcerer's academies by helping enslaved elves rise up against their masters. He is in direct Legue with the gods, being a paladin of Hel and Lilith, and seems to have experience as a military leader and political actor from wherever he was from. Though the rest of the rebellion has been skeptical of him, commoners amoung humanity and creature alike seem to like him. He appears as a young man with strawberry blond hair, having lost his hearing and disfigured his hands in previous battles, he often wears a futuristic looking uniform, and is able to spawn burning armor when going into battle.
Dr Robert Coleridge- a human handed one of the five most powerful magic items on earth by Jesus of Naseerah (a powerful lich and son of Zeus), transforming him into an ageless genderless being with dominion over magic. He seems to be the most kindhearted of all the leaders of the rebellion, being slow to violence and not wanting to use his powers as a weapon. He's taken power among the harpies, who were once the bankers of the magical world, but have since become the main force funding the rebellion. He does not want to be elected, which might be what makes him the best man for the job. He appears as an unnaturally beautiful androgynous being with glowing eyes, usually wearing a button-down shirt and bowtie.
Grand Inquisitor Espen Hunter- a sorcerer who once was a high-ranking military officer among the forces trying to maintain the veil, who switched sides out of principle when the sorcerous government planned to commit acts of terror and genocide against harpy populations and began conscripting children into the inquisition as part of the late war effort. He is still skeptical of many the rebellion's ideals but will side with them over genocide. For better or worse, he is slow to implement ideas until they are well proven to him. Though other than possibly Elric, he is the cantante with the most experience in government, and other then Robert he's the only candidate above twenty-five. He appears as a warrior in archaic armor, wielding a mace in one hand as a spell in the other, a mask covers his face which was disfigured by an attack spell.
We're sorry you have to vote for people you didn't know existed until now, but this was the only way.

OUAT, traditional values, and the concept of found family
I’ve been thinking about what drives people to like some aspects/characters of a piece of media, in this case OUAT, and what drives them to dislike others. E.g. I like Regina, but I dislike Snow White. And it’s not just a “well she’s an enemy of my favourite character” thing, I can point out a long list of reasons why I feel that way.
In the end, I’ve reached this conclusion: For OUAT specifically, different characters represent different set of ideals.
Let’s start with Snow white for example:
She is the absolute representation of traditional values. She’s the clean cut Princess (who should have the throne by God-given right). She’s also following traditional paths in life (fall in love with some dude, get married, have his babies), and she puts a lot of value in traditional familial ties (her closest people are literally her family members, and their moto is “we will always find each other”). There are also some other quite heavy handed religious themes involved here (Emma dropped in a tree as a baby... to save the people of the Enchanted forest... as it was prophesied... white Moses anyone??), but I’m not going to get into that, I’m just going to say that if you’re the kind of person who puts a lot of stock into traditional family values, religion, etc, chances are you’ll be firmly into camp Charmings.
Tumblr media
Regina on the other hand is the absolute rebel. She challenges tradition every step of the way: She falls in love with the stable boy, goes against her mother’s wishes, hates the man she gets married off to, doesn’t believe in the institution of monarchy and as such, has no issue with killing her husband and usurping the throne.
Also, traditional family? Fuck that, Regina annihilates her family right off the bat: she sends her mother to another realm, and she sacrifices her father to be free of them/find her happiness (as in, there is no happiness in her traditional family for her). Also, she renders herself infertile so no child of hers will fall under the control of her blood family, and she obviously hates her husband and his family, and of course, kills him too. Regina is firmly in the Found Family camp. The person she loves the most in the world is her adopted son, her BFF was an isolated sorceress (Maleficent), and she found her true love while taking a stroll in the woods (and went into very un-traditional relationship paths with him, his ex-wife, and later her sister and Robyn).
Tumblr media
I do find it fun that in the end, both Regina and Snow end up with a mix of found family members, and blood related family members, finding happiness in the middle ground (this includes the time when Roni thought she was making a family out of her community when in fact she was making a family with her granddaughter, son, and daughter in law).
I’d also like to point out that the show, however much time it spends on the Charmings, and Rumpelstiltskin etc, it is very much about Regina’s journey. From being a piece that didn’t fit in rightly anywhere (in her family, at the castle, in the Enchanted forest in general, as self-assigned mayor, etc) to being elected Queen of all Realms.
Anyway, it is interesting to notice how we are all, consciously or subconsciously, drawn to that which reflects our set of values, and the way we see the world.

I finished my fanart of Chicken, Rebel and her many small allies!! I think this one is the last of the three duo-mutant-portraits I wanted to make. But I still have a couple of them which I want to draw one day.

I’m doing a Silly Little Thing.
Games Workshop, creators of Warhammer 40k, have an advent calendar full of chibi space marines--23 different chapters, plus a blank paint-your-own model. So every day in December, I’m going to be popping one of these spots open to pull out the marine, look at it, and give a little summary of the chapter and its lore. I’m tagging this “40k advent”, for whatever tagging purposes you need.
What’s a “space marine” and a “chapter”? Time to kick things off with a lore dump! The story of Warhammer 40k starts around 28,000 years in the future, in the 31st millennium. Humanity’s sprawling interstellar civilization fell the fuck apart, as the warp--the hellish ‘hyperspace’ used for faster-than-light travel--became impossible to navigate. Earth fell into an endless Mad Max hellscape of squabbling techno-barbarians, ravaged by nuclear fallout, environmental catastrophe, and the ravages of uncontrolled psychics.
Into this stepped the Emperor, a giant immortal super-psychic human. His armies fought hard to unite Earth in his name, and when that was done, he looked to the stars, launching a Great Crusade to unite all of humanity under one Imperium of Man, and murder every alien they see along the way.
As part of his goals, he created 20 Primarchs, his ‘sons’, superhumans almost as mighty as he was to serve as his generals. And from the genetics of his Primarchs, he created a way to uplift normal humans into legions of genetically-augmented supersoldiers--the Legiones Astartes, the Space Marines, who would be the speartip leading the vast hordes of unaugmented humans in the Crusade. ...Then a little ‘woopsie’ happened, the Primarchs all got yote across the galaxy so he couldn’t raise them himself, but he still had his Space Marines, so it was fine.
As the Emperor’s armies spread across the galaxy, he was reunited with his Primarchs one by one, and each one took leadership of their legions of sons. Two Primarchs and their legions disappeared from records; it’s a whole Thing, a big in-universe mystery, don’t worry about it. As the Crusade reached its end, the Emperor decided to fuck off back to Earth, leaving his first-found son Horus in charge as Warmaster.
Horus promptly decided to rally half his brothers to fight the other half, juice himself up with the power of dark gods, and rebel against the Imperium. It was the Horus Heresy; it was a whole thing. It ended with him mortally wounding the Emperor, just as Horus was brain-blasted from reality.
In the aftermath of the Heresy, the unconscious Emperor was sealed into a life-support device called the Golden Throne, where his main job was to act as a lighthouse for spacefarers. The new regent, Roboute Guilliman, one of the loyalist Primarchs, decided that the big problem with the Space Marines is that a legion of them was too powerful a force for any one person to lead. So he ordered them all to break up into hundreds of Chapters, self-contained armies of 1,000 supersoldiers. Then over the next few hundred years, the surviving loyalist Primarchs fucked off, went into stasis, or died.
We pick up the story again 10,000 years later, which is just an absurd length of time. The Imperium still lives, but it’s a rotting carcass of an empire that stumbles along through sheer inertia. It fights thousands of wars every day across the galaxy, losing ground to endless hordes of aliens, mutants, rebels, and followers of the dark gods (including the remnants of those traitor legions, who’re still running around stirring shit up). The government has become a fascist theocracy dedicated to the worship of the mostly-dead Emperor as a god, against his explicit wishes. Trillions of people live in squalor, their lives dedicated to building or using weapons in the Imperium’s endless wars, until they die and are turned into corpse-starch to feed the next generation of the oppressed. Recently, the galaxy cracked in half, and things got even more shit. Hundreds of new chapters of Space Marines have been raised to try to defend the Imperium; some have been destroyed, some other have turned traitor, but most still fight in the Emperor’s name.
The one ray of hope: Guilliman has returned to take leadership of the Imperium, despairing at the horrific state of it. He now leads a new crusade to reunite the Imperium, and to slowly drag it into a slightly less miserable position. He’s aided by a new kind of Space Marine, the Primaris, who’re just a little bit better than the classic model made by the Emperor. Can he and his armies pull the Imperium back from the brink and create the glorious empire his father dreamed of?
No he can’t, because everything sucks and the Imperium deserves to fall. But we can enjoy watching everything fall apart. And enjoy looking at/painting some Grimdark Little Guys in the meantime.
