I received instructions from former president Barack Obama to drop a nuclear bomb on my parents' house. I got in the plane that held the bomb but I couldn't figure out how to fly it so I had to call my mom and ask her. After I started flying, she asked where I was flying to and I said, "Your mom-I mean, my mom's house?" and then immediately dropped it way too close to the ground which blew up the plane and killed everyone in the neighborhood.

Me: You know, the fun thing about having anonymous questions enabled on tumblr is that people will ask you literally anything-
The communist: I mean it can't be that-
Me: No I'm gonna give you examples. First someone was like "what would you do if someone shot nuclear bombs at you", and then someone was all "have you fucked in front of your dad?" and then someone was like "why can you fuck if you can't cook pasta?" and then-
The communist: Wow they will LITERALLY ask you anything...
Me: Exactly

Do the wastes still suffer from significant air pollution?
Oh yeah…
The history behind Aerth is that, long ago, there was a brilliant flash of light and heat that scorched the earth, burning everything in its path, casting such a cloud of smoke and ash into the air that it cooled the whole planet.
What little survived had to band together to survive, and thus, hybrids were born and rose (quite literally) from the ashes. The earth slowly recovered, with some species having been completely wiped out, and several new ones rising to fill their place. Although many locations have yet to recover from the ash, which encouraged ice and cold to grow beneath it, some have, and have grown into their former luscious, green glory.

Oddly specific but did anyone else's parents describe brutal torture methods in excruciating detail to them (under the pretense that they could/would happen to them) or was that just me?
#if anyone is wondering the context for telling a child (yeah i was about 8 or smthn) these things i shall explain#tw for holocaust mention#so my parents were pretty extreme in their religion- they called themselves Christians but were perhaps closer to some cults#and my parents held the general belief that a lot of shit would go down during or before the rapture- that is the second coming of god#not just plagues wars and pestilence but also a second holocaust#in which gunmen working under the antichrist would break into every home and shoot anyone who didnt renounce god#(btw this was considered the only 'unforgivable' sin in their religion meaning you either get shot or go to hell)#so i was of course encouraged to get shot in this scenario. at 8 years old#not only that but apparently for some reason they (the gunman/antichrist people) were going to take us to... camps essentially#and use various torture methods trying to get us to join them#a lot of those torture methods were described to me- things like removing fingernails the brazen bull and rat torture#and i was always terrified of those things#i was also told very emphatically that this WOULD happen in my lifetime. the rapture that is not necessarily torture#but it was just always a possibility that one day i would have to be a martyr#i used to have a lot of nightmares about the rapture happening and how i had chosen wrong and denounced god#scared me half to death#oh yeah i was also told there would be nuclear war? so i was always irrationally afraid of that too#everytime i heard an airplane i would think it was a bomb#anyway this is why i appreciate people not trying to reconvert me as you can imagine this sucked

Hey since Oppenheimer is opening the discussion around the bombings of hiroshima and Nagasaki can we please tag these things with ww2 or something because reading that shit unprompted on a Friday evening can be a huge bummer for Japanese people with generational trauma
Like yeah it's probably good to talk about it and whatever but as far as I'm concerned as a Japanese American, that era was beyond fucked and I don't like having to think about it. Some of us were sent to internment camps for our race, and those of us who got out of it will never be accepted by the people who did. There's a whole internal discourse judging which families suffered the most and it ripped out community apart. Our relatives died young from radiation complications and there's nothing we could do about it.
So can you PLEASE just tag that shit so we don't have to see it if we aren't emotionally up for engaging with the way our innocent children melted in the streets? Thanks.

Putting these links out there (and encouraging people to look for others) because I've been seeing people in oppenheimer debates implying that the creation of the atomic bomb was a necessary evil to "defeat the Nazis," and the reality is...slightly more complicated.
According to these Atomic Heritage Foundation articles, major work on the German push towards the atomic bomb was halted in June of 1942. This took place months before the Manhattan Project began on August 13, 1942. Germany's halting of atomic production was known to the allies by 1944 at least, before the bomb's completion or Germany's surrender.
More to the point, the fucking film itself involves Oppenheimer pushing for the use of the bomb, in Japan, post Germany's surrender. But I've literally seen people claiming Oppenheimer did "nothing wrong" because he was trying to use the bomb to stops Hitler or something, and the timeline simply does not match up with these simplifications.
I've ranted about this film in other regards elsewhere, but please, whenever we discuss it (this is a warning to myself as much as anyone else), at least keeps the facts straight, and stop letting speculation blur a very real and bloody part of history.

also!! The US tested a LOT of bombs, and those had Drastic Effects. The radiation was swept up by the wind, spreading across the entirety of the US,,,, a model shows the nuclear explosions carried out in New Mexico and Nevada between 1945 and 1962 led to loads of radioactive contamination, with fallout reaching 46 of the 48 contiguous United States as well as Canada and Mexico. The study also documents significant deposition in Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, and more :/
A lot of cancer cases went undocumented, and the only reason the government stopped was because Kodak caught the radiation on their p h o t o g r a p hy p a p e r .
A private company. Had to stop a country. From exposing it's citizens to irreversible damage.
when doctors ask if i have any history of cancer in my family and i have to say that yes my grandmother had 2 types of gastrointestinal cancer and they're like oh wow okay so we'll keep an eye out for that but i'm like no it was probably just all the nuclear radiation and they're like ok hm ok what the fuck do you mean and it's very weird seeing the look on american doctors' faces when you have to explain to them that believe it or not atomic bombs were dropped on this earth 2 generations ago and it did have consequences

had a dream a b*mb was dropped and me and three others were told we only had five years to live because of the fallout/radiation, we lived in a trailer and traveled through the barren wasteland while trying to find meaning in the little life we have left. i was like “im gonna make an autobiography so that the future generation doesn’t gloss this over” i rly want to write a book about it but i cant see myself doing that so should i make it a fanfiction???
