NUART 2009

Originally a screen printer in Baltimore, Logan Hicks moved to New York more than a decade ago to focus on his fine art, and on the street he has become widely respected for his layered stencils exploring the dynamics of the urban environment. @Wdwlls attributes Hicks’ notoriety to his “ability to capture the sometimes mundane cycle of city life in a haunting, yet refined way.” In Stavanger, Norway in 2009 for the long running @NuartFestival, held annually since 2001, Hicks showed a little different side of himself with this thought-provoking composition on the south side of the @ArkadenTorgterrassen shopping mall. Thankfully the mural was saved from falling victim to mall refurbishment the following year through quick action by Nuart organizers and the response of the community.  @loganhicksny

“I HAD TO CAGE YOU CAUSE I ENVIED YOU...TOO MUCH”

Started in 2001 Nuart in Stavanger, Norway is one of the world’s longest running urban art festivals, and a decade later @StreetArtNews labeled the 2011 event—showcasing the work of Herakut—one of the top 3 street art events of the year. “A match made in urban art heaven” says @MyModernMet German artists Jasmin Siddiqui, aka Hera and Falk Lehmann, aka Akut, joined forces in 2014. The combination of Hera painting the overall forms and Akut adding the photorealistic detail results in work both whimsical but also dark and creepy, and has made their narrative work a hit both on the street and in print. For Nuart the pair added a new medium filling a Stavanger warehouse with a disturbing installation from their dark imagination, and on this wall at Pedersgata and Støperigata they added this related tale of a prince and his caged monkeys.  @herakut    @nuartfestival
