so like in my brain mark's p much always identified as straight. yknow middle-aged guy, people just assumed he was growing up and he went with it and felt it was pretty apt. found a nice woman, got married, had a kid, etc.
but at this point in his life hes gone through SO much shit. wife died tragically, his kid has a magic book which can summon hell beasts he can barely control, became a super villain and also part lizard, was kidnapped by a bunch of teenage superheroes, took those same superheroes home to meet his kid where they fucked off to the afterlife without him, world almost ended and it rained blood that one time, tried to help stop a mastermind villain, etc. so when he realizes he ALSO has feelings for tide hes just like
he does zero internal reflection to analyze his own past and feelings to see if hes not actually straight after all. he does not look into any identities that may better explain his feelings, like heteroflexible or something. he changes literally absolutely nothing he just accepts that its happening. like yes hes straight yes hes dating a man whats not clicking. i dont even think he registers that he's considered lgbt until its pointed out to him that non-lght guys arent usually attracted to and dating men and even then hes just like "okay but im not lol??? (continues to date a man)"

also to be explicitly clear bc I realize the dsmp “a situation where neither side is right or wrong” as presented doesn’t rlly apply when it comes to mark and ashe bc ashe DIDNT rlly do anything wrong, my brain more goes to it bc it’s a “neither side is wrong, because both have valid feelings/reasons for their behaviors, and I think that’s interesting to explore” situation and not a “neither side is wrong bc both did shitty things” situation. mark did a lot wrong, ashe is just sitting there while mark projects his trauma onto him BDKSN
