Ok I’m also going to count this as journalling because just because it’s stream of consciousness doesn’t mean it doesn’t count!! it just doesn’t have the physical structure of the prompts when I’m writing them down but sometimes you just need to brain dump
I also like the trend I started in the sault of writing free form the plan for everyday so maybe that’s what I’ll do here on sundays, so that’s at least 52 journal entries right there for the bingo
anyway ok today was normal and will be chatting to mar in 20 mins while watching stuff and making my queue. had a matcha so I’ll be awake for hopefully two episodes but maybe not that long. want to also transfer all my vitamins, eat, and fix my nails (hand and foot) during this call. bedroom cleaning got a little tidied but really needs a full day dedicated to it
wednesday: normal day but not really. in the office until 2:15, off to wisdom teeth consult, then back home and maybe finishing up the work day. shower, maybe try to tidy a bit more, and then off to caro’s for sewing. pack a bag with your sewing projects and everything you need to stay at nick’s for possibly like 3 days. caro’s then nick’s after. peaceful.
thursday: wfh at his house, probably go home that night? kinda undecided but if you’re home take a bath despite JUST taking a shower that day bc friday drinks are happening and saturday table building is happening.
friday: wfh (probably at your own home. thinking I won’t spend the night at nick’s after all because I will be spending this night at his and then also sunday night, so kinda chaotic) then drinks with caro + cassa at helm. cassa is bringing cards despite this being my event. should you maybe actually sleep at your house tonight bc it is so close? hm. mystery.
saturday: luckily you’ve budgeted out the morning routine to only be home for sunday morning so you actually have this flexibility here. you’re gonna be at his to build a ladder and that will be two hobbies in one week started!! try to go home tonight, spend some time with cassa and maybe NOW take a bath.
sunday: regular morning routine, dnd in the day, probably some meal prep in the afternoon, going to his in the night. this week is a lot of time spent together but next week will be less bc of IUD and rachel visit, so is hopefully forgiven. this week is looking up to be pretty peaceful actually. try to stick to your wake up times, and also clean inbetween every moment if you can. that being said, the 8th and the 10th are days off and you might want something to distract from the pain on the 8th and there is no way that cleaning the house is actually going to take more than like 6 hours, so even if you procrastinate it ALL until day of the party people still won’t be like wow this house is disgusting.
#i want to tag this to track it#oh back to#personal#bc thats where I had other stuff#from teenage years

Speech in italics is whatever the reader wants their native langue to be that’s not Korean or English
Speech without either means they’re talking in English
Silence filled your room when you woke up the next morning. It was strange, since San had said he would be waking you up, and there you were, still lying in bed by the time noon rolled around.
It wasn’t as if you were waiting for him to come and get you, but you just wanted to take advantage of the time in such a warm blanket. Yeosang often joked about how you became a cold-blooded reptile whenever you felt sleepy, body temperature dropping and your tongue sharp like that of a snake.
Basically, it was his long-winded way of calling you a cranky, heat-stealing bitch.
Not that you minded at all, since Yeosang was a cranky bitch himself when sleepy.
But then half an hour passed, and there was still no sign of San. Throwing the blanket off your form, you slipped on a pair of slippers and got ready for the day, finding him becoming the very next thing on your agenda.
And the state you found him in was certainly laughable--to you anyway.
“Did you seriously get sick after a little storm?” you chuckled, eyes taking in San wrapped in the covers as if he was a baby, sniffling every few seconds.
“Oh, shut it,” he glared at you, speaking with a nasally voice.
You took a step into his room, one looking fairly similar to yours, with little pictures or much personalisation in general. Must not have stayed here often then, or had many memories he wanted to keep.
That thought... it made you feel a little sad.
Once you reached the edge of his bed, you sat down beside him, noticing just how sickly-looking he was. Skin paler, hair sticking to his forehead from the sweat, flush cheeks and nose, uneven breathing, soft whimpering.
Your smile faded slightly. “How long have you been like this?”
“Since last night,” he coughed, brushing away your hand as you reached out to check his temperature. “Don’t touch me, I don’t want you to catch whatever this is.”
Clicked your tongue at his response and did so anyway. “Holy shit, you’re burning up. More than you should be. Has anyone seen to you yet?” Instantly, you brushed the hair from his eyes, simultaneously wiping away the sweat. Was pretty gross, but you didn’t mind at all.
San relaxed under your gentle touch, finding it cool and soothing against his muddled senses. “N-No. I texted Hongjoong to tell everyone to leave me alone. Clearly didn’t do a good enough job if you’re here.”
Lightly hitting his chest over the blanket, you scoffed. “You’re happy I’m here, don’t lie.”
Grinning, he sighed. “Can’t hide anything from you, now can I, Hun?”
“Nope,” you huffed as you got up. “Now, I’m going to prepare something for you to eat since you probably haven’t had anything since yesterday.” On cue, his stomach grumbled painfully loudly, making the man visibly cringe as he was about to decline your offer so you would stay with him for a little bit longer. “Looks like Mister Tummy’s already answered for you.”
“Mister Tummy doesn’t know shit.”
“Mister Tummy knows more shit than you do. In fact, it processes all of your shit for you.”
“Gross.”
“I know. Mister Tummy’s gross. But full of wisdom.”
“You know what, just go. Leave me be for a bit.”
Evil chuckling reached his ears. “Now that you’ve said it, I’ll just be here to annoy you as much as I can. But before we do that, keep yourself bundled up and make sure you’re sweating buckets. It’s the most effective way to break a nasty fever like that.” You began wrapping him up in the thick blanket like he was a burrito.
With that, you left for the kitchen, calling Seonghwa’s number. As the ringing continued, you looked around, noticing how there were few guards and servants around the place. Not even Wooyoung, Jongho, or Hongjoong could be seen in your trek to make food.
“What do you want, troll?”
“You’ve got to stop calling me that. Whatever happened to ‘hello’? Too mainstream for you?”
“...Hello, troll. What do you want?”
Narrowing your eyes ahead of you, smirk pressing against your lips, you tried to look around for the chef. Not there either. “Much better. Now, can you give me a recipe for that soup with ‘magical healing properties’ you used to give me?”
“Bone broth?”
“Yeah, that one.”
“Why?”
“Because I’m on adventure to nurse a sociopathic cuddle-demon back to health, now are you going to give me the recipe or am I going to get Yunho to drag it out of you? Because I know very well that he will.”
Seonghwa’s sigh was loud enough to be audible through the phone.
“I’ll take that as a ‘yes’. Just text me the recipe, thank you, love you, byeeeeee.” Immediately ended the call, looking in all the cupboards, the pantry, the fridge, and the freezer. This place was stocked to the brim.
Shortly after, your phone began buzzing, Seonghwa requesting to video call you. Swiping the green button, you were met with a (slightly laggy) picture of Seonghwa’s chin, hearing him yell off screen. “--UNHO. MINGI. I SWEAR TO GOD, YOU BETTER PUT THAT DOWN BEFORE I SHOVE IT UP BOTH YOUR ASSES.”
You could make out the response, “Hehe, kinky.” Most likely Mingi from the very nature of the comment.
“What do you want, troll?” you echoed his words back to him, catching his attention--the other boys most likely long gone into the depth of the house.
“Well, well, well, how the tables have turned,” he smirked, moving the camera so you could see him better.
“It’s ‘how the turntables’.”
He looked at you with an unimpressed expression, not pleased with your Office reference, and carried on to ignore it. “So there is no way in hell I’m sending you the recipe through text, since people can easily hack that--”
“And by people, you mean--”
“Yeosang, yes, who else? Little rat bastard keeps trying to steal my recipes.”
“I’ll be sure to tell him you said that.”
“As if he hasn’t heard it already about a million times.”
You chuckled in response, knowing how true it was. “Fair enough. Now spill your secrets and bless me with the ability to cook.”
One word to describe the last hour of your life would be... Well, you couldn’t really think of a word. It was purely of Seonghwa screaming over the phone and you screaming back. And panicking. Both of you definitely panicked.
But all in all, the bone broth was made and tasted fairly decent--a worry you had after fucking up so many times in making a simple recipe.
With a pale and dreary look upon his face, Seonghwa looked at you through the phone, narrowing his eyes on you pouring some of the hot mixture in to a bowl. “You’re actually gonna feed him that? Sure you’re trying to nurse him, or was this a master plan to kill him after that ordeal? Because if it’s the latter, then there were much easier ways of doing so.”
“Shut up,” you grumbled, whispering prayers in your head that it would actually help San’s fever. “And goodbye.”
“Woah, woah, woah. Is that it? You’re gonna use me and then lea--”
You hand pulled away from the phone screen, after having pressed the red button. Chuckled to yourself with your comedic timing, completely forgetting the earful you’d get of the elder the next time you call him.
Gathering a tray, you placed the bowl of bone broth on top of it, as well as a packet of painkillers, a glass of water, and some turmeric tea; why San has it, you have no idea, since he seems to be a hot coffee-kind of person.
Would’ve added a flower, because you felt like being extra, but that would seem more like a romantic thing than a... well, whatever the hell you two were right now.
This situation wasn’t exactly common enough for it to be given a name.
Wafting away the thought, you grabbed the tray and walked quickly to the mobster’s bedroom. Didn’t need to worry about any spillage since you’ve had years of practice being quick and precise with movement.
Holding one hand beneath the tray (feeling a little heavy, but again, you’ve had practice), you used the other to open the door, finding San still swaddled in his blanket, sweating like a pig.
“Y/N...” he whimpered, an eye opening at the sound of you entering. Seeing him in such a vulnerable state was different to how he usually was--and you weren’t sure if you liked it.
“I’m right here, San,” you replied in a soft tone, brushing back his hair once more as soon as you placed the tray on the bedside-table beside you. “Brought you some food too. Can you sit up for me?”
Letting out soft whines, he tried to lift his body up, but was too weak and too caged in to get his back even a centimetre off the mattress. You saw the issue, and pulled the covers apart slightly so he could move a little more, both hands pulling gently at his shoulders so he could sit up properly.
Never had you seen someone this unwell from a simple fever. Sure, you’ve felt like shit before, but San’s condition was a little worrying. “Is there some private doctor I can call?”
“What,” he huffed, a smile etching onto his face as he looked into your eyes, “makes you think I have a private doctor?”
“Oh, I dunno, you’re a rich asshole?”
Chuckling, he let his head flop to the side, neck suddenly too weak to hold it up properly. “You’re beautiful, you know that? Annoying, but funny, but sarcastic, but beautiful.”
“Okay, do you wanna continue with that word vomit or are you gonna eat?” You cocked your brow, head tilting to match his posture. “Also, you’re not gonna flatter me by calling me beautiful. That shit doesn’t work on me anymore.”
It had slightly upset San knowing that you had said ‘anymore’--upset him knowing that there were others complimenting what his. But he couldn’t blame them. You really were beautiful in his eyes, even if he hadn’t thought so when he initially laid eyes on you.
“Don’t wanna eat.”
Sighing, you fixed yourself and picked up the bowl, mixing it as you blew to cool it down a little. “You’re not well, you gotta.”
He looked at you with big wide eyes and a small pout--and you couldn’t help but think it was a little cute. “Don’t wanna... unless you feed me?”
Okay, maybe it was a little less cute.
You exhaled, still stirring. “If I do, then you’ll have it all?” He put his hand over his heart, nodding with a sincere look on his face. “Fine then. You lifted a spoon full of the bone broth to his lips, which he look into his mouth promptly--eyes glued to yours as he did so.
San hummed earnestly. “It’s...actually pretty good.”
Eye twitching, you lightly pushed him. “Why? Did you expect it to be shit?”
“I mean, I heard faint screaming and what I assume was swearing, which could have only come from you because I let everyone have a day off for today. So, yes, forgive my assumption that it would murder me,” he chuckled, opening his mouth once more, in which you carefully put more broth in.
“Be happy that I’m doing this much for you.”
“Because you feel guilty for getting me ill?”
“No, it was your fault for not taking a hot shower when we came back, like I told you to--and your immune system for being so shit.”
“Okay, first of all, I can’t help it if my immune system wants to act out. I usually don’t get this ill.” You sent him a ludicrous look, continuing to feed him. “What? I really don’t!”
“Tell that to the rain.”
“I-- nevermind. But the second thing is that I offered to take a shower, but you said no!”
“That’s because you wanted to shower with me. No way in hell I was gonna let that happen!”
“You have the shower room for it!”
″Yeah, and I've already passed on my grievances to you yesterday about that hell-room!”
“Well, at least with me with you, you don’t have to worry about--what did you call it? Oh yeah--’Casper the fuckin’ Perverted Ghost’.”
“I’d take a ghost over you any day.”
“You won’t be saying that in a year.”
“Bold of you to assume that I won’t be choosing Casper over you. After all, I’ll be spending time with him as well.”
San scoffed, slightly amused but annoyed at the same time. “Are you actually trying to get me jealous of something that doesn’t exist?”
“Who said Casper doesn’t exist?”
“‘Cause ghosts don’t exist.”
“Tell that to Casper. You’ll find him in my shower room.”
Amidst the conversation, neither of you had noticed how the bowl and cup was now empty, their contents now residing in San’s stomach. But when you did, you got up--ready to walk to the kitchen and put everything away--until his very warm hands wrapped around your elbow gently.
“Please don’t go. You can put all that stuff away later. Just... stay with me.”
Sighing, you decided to listen to him for once an put the tray down before tightening the covers around him again--making him whine. “Noooooo, I wanna hold you.”
“What happened to not wanting me to get sick?”
“I’m ill, stop taking my muddled brain so seriously.”
Your brow cocked up, amused while you looked over his flushed face. “So you’d be willing get me sick too?”
Another pout formed on his face. “Of course not,” he mumbled. “You know what, you’re right. You can go.”
He avoided looking at you, instead fixing his saddened gaze at the window. Your natural scepticism told you that he was just faking it, only putting on an act to get your attention and affection. Yet, for the first time in a while, doubt began to seep in.
Maybe... maybe you could give in. Just this once.
Sighing, you slipped off your slippers and lay down beside him, an arm and leg wrapping around his body to bring him closer to you. A stronger tint of red covered his face as he looked at you, flabbergasted, as he tried to wriggle out of your touch. “What are you doing, you’ll get sick--”
“My immune system is much stronger than yours, I’ll live. Besides, you look cosy,” you muttered, nestling your face into the soft blanket. Even his blanket smelled like a garden in the rain, despite the amount of sweat that’s probably seeped into it.
Truly, he did, and you couldn’t deny that you wanted to hug the human burrito.
San had, instead, found you cute, cheek squished against the fabric surrounding him. Let his mind wonder to the image of you pressed against him--without the covers coming between you two.
Again.
Would you look this peaceful, sleeping on his chest, on a regular day--he thought.
“Are you just going to stare at me or are you gonna get some rest?” San could feel your voice vibrating through the covers despite the thickness of it.
“Hard not to stare at you, ya know?” he relaxed himself, despite feeling like he was baking beneath the blanket, and let his head rest on the pillow, cheek pressed against your forehead.
“Goddamn, you’re hot. Did you take any medicine while I was cooking?”
“Oh, Hun, there’s no cure for sexiness,” he coughed, a smirk pulling at his lips from the joke he made.
Another sigh was pulled from your throat as you got up to look for any painkillers he could take. Sane began to whine once more, rolling over since he could barely had enough energy to move with his arms when he was this tired--a full belly of warm broth and tea not helping what so ever.
“No--wait. Come back...”
“You need painkillers.”
With a straight face, he stared deep into your eyes, slightly glossy and sparkling under the dim sunlight coming into the room. “But you’re my painkiller.”
“Yeah, I’m going to get you some meds,” you deadpanned, scooping up the tray to leave the grown-ass mafia boss whining and rolling around, throwing a tantrum.
After some hard thinking and remembering that Wooyoung had given you his number, you called him up as you stood in the doorway, looking at San’s calm state of sleeping.
“My dear sister,” you heard a voice finally say over the phone, “what requires my assistance?”
“...Wooyoung?”
“Yes, dear sister?”
“What in the world has possessed you call me your ‘dear sister’?”
“Because you’re gonna be my friend’s wife some day, so I need to get used to seeing you as my sister-from-another-mister.”
Rubbing the bridge of your nose, you decided to not comment on his outlandish claims. “San’s not feeling well.”
“Is that why he sent us all away?” he laughed, somehow finding this situation amusing--since this is what his best friend tends to do; finds his weakened state as vulnerability, and if there was one thing San hated, it was feeling vulnerable.
But if he truly hated that, then why pursue this why you--when he know that it would force him to bring his guard down?
“I think so. No one was here when I came out of my room. Not the cooks or the maids or even the guards,” you said, taking another gander as if there might be someone roaming the halls to disprove your statement.
There wasn’t.
“Okay then. You want me to give you our private doctor’s number?”
Chuckling to yourself because you knew you were right (immediately confusing Wooyoung), you hummed, “yeah, that would be great.”
“O-Okay. Lemme text it to you. But do you need anything else? I know from experience San can get a little clingy when he’s not in his right mind,” he said, a boisterous giggle passing his lips.
“Nah, it’s fine.” You let your gaze brush over your captor’s figure. “Just send me the number and I’ll take it from there.”
“Okie dokie then, dear sister. I’ll leave you to deal with that enigma.”
“Alright, Wooyoung. See you tomorrow?”
“Call me ‘dear brother’, then maybe I’ll hang u--”
You shoved your phone into your back pocket after ending the call, thinking that it would take him a few minutes. Proving you wrong, the phone buzzes to life within the next ten seconds, Wooyoung sending you a couple of messages.
Wooyoung: Well that was a rude Wooyoung: No matter, I still love ya, dear sister Wooyoung: Probs should clarify that it’s platonic in case San sees it and gets all jelly Wooyoung: Anyway, here’s the number Wooyoung: XXXXXXXXXX
Y/N: Thanks, bro
Wooyoung: 🥺🥺 You called me ‘bro’
Smiling a little, you called the number--which had indeed taken you to a doctor’s clinic. After hearing of his exact temperature and other symptoms, the woman over the phone had concluded that it was as you first suspected--the common cold.
She told you to keep giving him painkillers and he should be fine within the week. Ending the call with a polite ‘thank you’ and ‘goodbye’, you left to get San more broth and medication, and hopefully you’d lay down with him again.
Which is exactly what you did for the rest of the day, opting to stay with him for the night too in order to make sure he really was okay. Thankfully, the worst of his fever had passed by the time morning came around and he was feeling much better.
You, however, were exhausted after looking after him, deep in your slumber as you shifted closer to San, who had broken free of his blanket prison and wrapped it around the two of you. The sunlight peeking through the window paled in comparison to the faint smile of glee San had adorned when he saw you.
Cheeked pressed up against his shoulder, and arm and a leg draped over his body like a koala clinging to a tree.
Just like he had thought the day before.

Impulse: The Beginning (Javier Peña x Reader)

*Spanish translation at the end of the fic*
Have you read Part 1 yet? // Masterlist // Next Chapter -->
---
As one of only a few female agents in the DEA academy at the time, you had fought tooth and nail for your place from day one. Most of the men in your class thought you were useless and had campaigned on multiple occasions to get you taken out of the academy. This was mostly due to your success. You were a great agent already and were itching to get into some real action.
When the agency announced that they would be sending a couple of the highest achieving students from the graduating class out on a new placement program, you knew it was your chance. Incredibly, before you even got a chance to apply you were pulled aside by a professor and told you’d be selected. You were going to Colombia.
The fight in South America was all anyone spoke about. The tonnes they were hauling out was unmatched, it made Miami look like a small fry. A chance to go down there and help, maybe even take down some Narcos yourself, was one everyone dreamed of. Colombia alone had two of the biggest players, Pablo Escobar, and The Cali Cartel. Placement in that country would no doubt be the best learning experience you could ever get! Who knows, maybe you would be the one to catch Escobar!
It took a little convincing to your parents to let you go. They’d seen the news; they knew how dangerous it was and weren’t too keen on you going. Eventually, after a meeting with your coordinator they were convinced, you packed a bag and you flew down to Bogotá.
You were picked up at the airport and driven to the American embassy in the city to meet your mentor Agent Javier Peña. You hadn’t been told much about him other than he was from Texas and had been in Colombia for a while. Not a lot to go off. In your head you imagined some old cowboy, grumpy and hardened by the horrors of the world he had seen. He wouldn’t believe you when you appeared, would probably ask to have you removed immediately. You sighed, already resigning yourself to hate the man you were now forced to spend the next year with.
Your escort took you through the embassy, to the DEA’s office and promptly abandoned you at the door without another word. This was it. You pushed open the door and were instantly greeted by a cheery woman’s voice from behind a desk. Denise, according to her name plate, was filing her nails when you approached. She set the file down and smiled sweetly.
“Hey there, darling! What can I do for you?” Her voice had a strong southern twang to it, a quintessential southern belle with curled blonde hair and bright blue eyes.
“Hi, I’m here to see... Agent Peña,” You looked at that note in your hand to check you had the right person.
“‘Course sweetie, what’s your name?” She asked. You gave her your name and she told you to sit down in a seat opposite her desk for a moment while she called him. “So, you’re working with Peña?” She asked when she put the phone down again.
“Yeah,” You nodded, “What’s he like? I don’t really know what to expect,”
Denise giggled, “You’re certainly in for a treat darlin’. He’s something else,” You turned when her eyes watched someone through the window, “But I’m warning you now, don’t flirt with him,”
“I’m not-,” Your jaw dropped when the man in question walked past the window. Denise giggled, “Jesus Christ,” You muttered. He certainly was not the old man you had expected at all. He entered the room and you quickly shut your dropped jaw.
“Javier! Nice to see you,” Denise smiled at the man. You were shocked. Javier Peña was older, yes, but he was incredibly handsome. Tall, dark hair with dark eyes to match. He had a blue shirt on, unbuttoned just one too far. In such a professional environment it almost looked obscene. He smiled and your heart flipped.
“Denise,” Javier smiled charmingly at the assistant before turning to you, “who’s your friend?” Denise introduced you, “You’re the new kid?” He asked briefly looking you up and down, he shook your hand. Still a little dazed you smiled and nodded. “Quiet huh?”
“Sorry, uh it’s nice to meet you,” You pulled yourself out of your head, stumbling over your words as your brain caught up with what was actually going on.
“Let me show you round,” Javier chuckled, “I’ll see you later Denise,”
“See ya Javi,” She waved as you followed Agent Peña out of the office and down a new corridor.
“She’s cute. Is she your girlfriend?” You asked. Javier turned to you and shook his head.
“Never seen her before,” He smirked. You were glad he was walking ahead of you, as your jaw dropped. If he was like that with someone he had never met, what in hell was he like he was someone he liked?!
Javier took you around the office, showing the different places and meeting different people you would need to know. It seemed most people were exasperated by Javier; he was cocky and liked to get a rise out of people. He obviously didn’t really care for the bureaucracy of the job, much more an action guy than a paperwork guy. Despite your track record with these types previously, you got on well with Javier. He was easy to talk to and his confidence wasn’t arrogant.
You followed him around from room to room, making small talk about where you were from, how you’d been enjoying the academy and such. All the while you were trying to remember where everything was but ultimately failing. The place was a maze. Eventually you came to a small office tucked away in the corner of the building.
“And this, is where we live!” Javier said as he opened the room. The room was small, barely enough room for the two desks and row of cabinets inside. Behind one desk, engrossed in a manila file was a blonde man. He looked up when you entered, giving Javier a questioning look, “This is the Rookie,”
“Y/n,” You added. You were pretty sure he had forgotten your name, introducing you as Rookie to the last three people you had met.
“That's what I meant to say,” He replied, waving you off.
“Nice to meet you Rookie,” The blonde man grinned and chuckled, “Steve Murphy,”
“Nice to meet you sir,” You reached over the messy desk and shook his hand.
“Sir? I could get used to that! Bit of respect round here would be nice,” Steve laughed. “Steve will work just fine,”
“Or pendejo, he does respond to that too,” Javier added.
“Real funny Peña,” Steve snapped back. You chuckled. You stood in the doorway for a moment, watching as Javier chaotically cleared a space for you at his desk by moving a pile of paper from one surface to another.
“We’re moving out of here soon,” He explained, you nodded. He offered a chair, and a cigarette. You took both. “Did you have any trouble at the airport?” Javier asked. You shook your head.
“Nope. Bat my eyelashes and they don’t seem to worry,” You laughed to yourself. Javier raised an eyebrow.
“You get a lot of things done that way?” He asked. Your smile dropped quickly.
“No. I got here on credit, didn’t fuck my way to the top of that’s what your asking Agent Peña,” You said seriously, “Get that straight now. I’m just as good as any man, in fact I’m better. I don’t deal well with sexist assholes,”
“Out of line, I got it,” He threw his hands up in defence, leaning back on his chair. You turned to Murphy, who shrugged.
“All good,”
“Good,” you confirmed, “I don’t want you to think I’m rude, I just have to make it clear,”
“Crystal,”
The rest of the day was a blur, shipped about from one office to another getting badges and meeting important people. You were exhausted. Despite the copious amounts of coffee, you consumed, you had to force your eyes to stay open during the car ride home with Javier. You had been awake for more than twenty-four hours and added to the stress of a new job; you were ready to crash.
You said thanks to your mentor and dragged yourself up the stairs to your own apartment. You had only been inside your apartment briefly to drop off your bag earlier in the day. You could barely remember what it looked like.
The apartment was small and dark. There was a good-sized living room with a lumpy looking couch and a tv set. A small kitchen sat next to the entry door, separated by a half to the living room. Three doors came off the living room walls, one to a small closet, one to a tiny pink tiled bathroom and the last to a bedroom. The bedroom had a large window looking out over the street and the city beyond. There was a dresser with handles that were falling off and a double bed. The covers were old, and the colour had faded, the whole structure creaked when you sat down. The whole apartment seemed faded and old, but it would do.
You lay down, fully clothed, and smiled up at the ceiling. You had made it. You had done it! You were in Colombia, working for the DEA fighting Pablo freaking Escobar! You had succeeded beyond anyone’s expectation and you were excited to prove everyone who had ever doubted you wrong.
--
You hit the ground running the next day. Between moving the office to a new location, learning the ropes of the job, and catching up on ongoing investigations you felt like you never stopped. You had been home only to sleep for a few hours. You’d change your outfit, shower, and head straight back to work. You had quickly learnt that Javier was not going to be what you imagined your mentor would be, he was much more of ‘do as I say not as I do’ kind of teacher. In one week, you had already seen things that would have you kicked out of the academy if you were caught doing it. You had realised this experience would be much more of an experience to reflect on later than learn any real textbook things from day to day.
Friday was here. You knew you could get at least a few hours rest tomorrow, hoping that you wouldn’t be called in. You’d steadily been making your way through case notes, trying to make some sort of system so the immense amount of information through your desk wouldn’t get lost. You hadn’t noticed Steve and Javier call you, until Javier tapped on the desk next to you. You looked up.
“Rookie! Come on,” He motioned over to Steve who was waiting at the door, Kevlar vest in hand. You were going out on a raid!
“Seriously?” Your eyes lit up and you jumped up. You rushed to get your gun from the draw and raced after the two agents. Finally, you were getting to see some action. You were itching with excitement to finally be able to go into the field. All your training was leading up to this! A moment which for most agents didn’t happen for years! You ran to the courtyard and jumped into the backseat Javier’s truck
Javier fiddled with a radio on the dash until audible orders could be heard, barked through the walkie-talkie giving the plan for the raid. It was the house of a known sicario, not a big player in the grand scheme of things but they would have valuable information.
“When we get out there, you’re staying in here, got it?” Javier said once the orders were given.
“I don’t want to be left on the side-lines and watch! How am I meant to learn anything sitting in a truck?”
“You can stand outside the truck,” Javi offered. You
“Come on!” You begged, “Steve?”
“It’s not my call, Rookie,” Steve shrugged. You sighed.
“So, I’m meant to stand around and watch you have all the fun?”
“Quit whining,” Peña replied, glancing at you in the rear-view mirror. You frowned and settled back in your seat, your excitement dying a little.
After a few minutes of driving through the city, the convoy stopped outside a large house on the corner of a street. Javier parked and the two men jumped out of the vehicle slipping on their vests as they did. You took a deep breath, calming yourself, before stepping outside to join them.
Men started piling out of the cars and taking their places cordoning off the area. Steve was the first to get stuck in, immediately walking over to the man you assumed was in charge. You followed him, just to hear how raids were set up. Not so you could get involved, of course.
“Where are you going?” Javier asked as you walked past him.
“With Steve?” You replied cautiously, motioning over to the blonde a few paces ahead. Javi raised a brow.
“Rookie…” He warned.
“Javier…?” You replied in the same tone, as if you didn’t know exactly what he was going to say.
“Stay,” He said firmly, holding his hand up like a command given to a dog. You frowned.
“I’m not a dog,” You argued, Javi grinned and patted you on the head.
“Good girl,” You scowled at him, making him laugh again before he walked away to join his partner.
“Jerk,” You called after him. You complied, reluctantly, leaning back on the hood of the truck and watching from afar. You knew that it was a dangerous situation and you didn’t have much experience yet; you weren’t going to be seeing any up-close action for a while. It was for your own safety and everyone else's.
But it was boring.
After a short while of preparations and what seemed a lot like just milling about. The team entered the building. Those who were left outside visibly relaxed. Now any superior officers had gone out of sight, the soldiers huddled in groups chatting amongst themselves keeping one eye on their post but mostly watching you.
None of them spoke to you, but you could hear them. They assumed you didn’t speak Spanish, like Steve, so spoke without a filter whilst within earshot. How attractive they thought you were, wondering about how you got your role and whether you’d show them how you got it if they got you drunk. It was disgusting, but not new. Men are the same world over, it seemed.
You leant against the hood of the truck and turned your attention to the matter at hand. You weren’t here to make friends after all. You were here to learn, here to work. If you couldn’t follow into the raid you could learn as much as you could from the outside.
Gunfire and shouting erupted from the building suddenly, making you jump in surprise. Nobody else seemed to take any notice, barely looking up. You watched intently following shadows in the windows. Then, out the corner of your eye you saw a man race from the building. You looked over at the men, still stood around, and back to the man from the building who had started to slow down, and nobody was chasing him. They didn’t see anything. This was your chance. Before anyone could stop you, you ran down the street after the escapee.
He spotted you instantly and began to run faster down the hill and around a corner. You kept up well until the corner revealed a large crowd of people between shops. Market stalls lined the streets and your target disappeared in the blink of an eye. You followed into the people, making sure to keep your gun down to avoid mass panic. You didn’t need more of a scene to let the guy escape
You skidded to a halt and looked around, immediately overwhelmed by the amount of people and directions the man could have gone. You walked to the middle of the intersection and looked left, nothing unusual, right, nothing. Your heart hammered into your ribcage as you tried to collect yourself. It was hard to concentrate under the sun. He couldn’t have gone far, you lost him for two seconds! Losing hope of a dramatic first arrest, you looked up another street, and couldn’t spot your target. You moved to slip your gun back into your holster until you turned and saw a man leant against a wall heaving for breath halfway back up the hill you had just run down. He thought he’d lost you.
You collected yourself with a slow breath and pursued the man again, this time slowly so you didn’t catch his attention. He hadn’t spotted you as you exited the crowd of the market and walked up the hill opposite side of the street, dipping your head so not to catch his eye. You reached for your gun, just ten feet away from him when he finally noticed and jumped up.
“Fuck!” You cursed out loud as you chased him once more. The steep hill made your legs burn, but unlike the man in your pursuit you could bare it. He was visibly flagging and by the time he reached the top of the hill he had given up and you had caught up.
You shoved him against the wall, keeping your gun to his back and leg round his to keep him still. Your heart was hammering in your chest, you laughed to yourself as the adrenaline swept you up.
“Te mataré,” The man spat at you, “puta,” You swiftly lifted your knee, kicking him in the balls making the man yelp. Was it necessary? No. But it felt brilliant.
“Shut up,” You replied. You smugly smiled until you realised you were now stuck. You had no handcuffs so had no way to move him. You had not thought this through at all. You looked around and to your surprise you had just run around the block and ended up on a few feet from where your chase had begun.
You watched the raid exit the house, dragging a few men in cuffs with them. You spotted Murphy and Peña, who quickly noticed that you were gone. You watched them look for you for a minute before calling out.
“Over here!” You called loud enough for the men to hear you. Murphy was the first to spot you and ran over quickly, with a few soldiers in tow.
“Thought we told you to stay by the truck,” He said.
“You missed one,” You replied. You removed yourself from your prisoner and stuck your gun back into the holster on your hip.
“Good job,” He praised you, clapping you on the back. “Bring him up,”
With handcuffs on, the two soldiers took the man into custody. You followed Steve back over to the trucks. You beamed with pride. You’re first ever arrest! You spotted Javier watching you as you approached, a smirk set on his lips and an eyebrow raised. Your pride wavered a little. Just as you got back to the truck, prepared to get berated by your mentor, a man in a green uniform stormed over to you. You dropped your smile quickly.
“Quien es ella?!” He asked, spitting out the words at Javier. “Porque esta ella aqui?” Despite him asking about you, the man never looked at you. His attitude immediately aggravated you and before Javier could open his mouth to reply you jumped in for him.
“Yo trabajo con Murphy y Peña,” You replied for him, a sarcastic smile on your face, driving home the point that you did understand what he was saying and that he couldn’t ignore you so blatantly.
“Carrillo this is Y/n L/n, Rookie this is Commander Carrillo,” Javier introduced you to Carrillo. Javier gave you a warning look, as if that was going to stop your temper. Carrillo looked you up and down then sneered.
“Eres un poco joven?” He turned to you. You scoffed.
“It’s a new placement programme the agency is trialling,” Peña jumped in again, “Don’t worry about it,”
“Oh, so my war is a place for you to test your kids huh?” Carrillo rolled his eyes, “Fucking gringos. I don’t want some girl here,” He waved you away, turning on his heel and walking away. You scoffed, anger taking over.
“Sir, with all due respect. Fuck you,” You called after him. Carrillo stopped walking, half turned back, shocked at the audacity of what you were saying, “If I wasn’t here that guy would have run off and it would have taken you another month to find him again. Personally, I think a thank you is in order,”
“Okay! In the truck, Rookie,” Steve finally stepped in, before Carrillo could reply. He grabbed you and pulled you out the way and back to the truck. Javier stood in the way of Carrillo, so he didn’t follow.
“What a jerk,” You grumbled as you slammed your door. You glowered in the backseat, watching Javier and Carrillo talk.
“About sums it up,” Murphy agreed.
“He looks pissed,” You commented as you watched Javier part with Carrillo and join you and Murphy ready to leave.
“He always looks like that,” Steve replied, making you chuckle. You were still nervous; you had completely stepped out of line saying that stuff to the commander. No doubt Javier was going to be just as mad. You picked at the loose thread on your shirt, staying quiet when Javier opened the door. “Good?” Steve asked.
“All good,” Javier replied as he shut the truck door. Steve started up the engine and pulled away from the scene.
“Seriously?” You were shocked.
“Oh no he hates you now, but he hated Steve for a while there too so don’t take it too personally,” Javier said, Steve chuckled. “You certainly know how to make a good first impression,”
“I’m not in trouble?”
“I’m a little worried you might be insane; I don’t think I would even say that shit to Carrillo!” Javier said, “But I will say you did a good job with that sicario so, I’ll buy you a drink to celebrate the occasion when we get back,”
Javier turned to look at you quickly, giving you a cheeky smirk. You grinned back. You’d done awesome today, a week into this placement and you’d already made an arrest. One bad guy off the street, all by yourself! You’d pissed off Carrillo, and while you were sure it would probably bite you in the ass further down the road, you had made an unforgettable impression and you couldn’t really bring yourself to care that he hated you.
That evening Javier kept his promise and brought you a drink at the bar after work. Sat with Murphy and Javier in a booth, listening as the two of them bickered like an old married couple, you couldn’t stop smiling.
“To Rookie!” Steve drunkenly called out, raising his beer up. “May you keep on ignoring orders and kicking ass!” You cackled with laughter and cheersed your teammates.
This was going to be a great year.

decided that enough was enough, Venti couldn’t just keep showing up in my fics as a Chaotic Caretaker. so. Venti fans, come get yall’s juice-
---
Venti sat at the bar, his head resting on the countertop, seemingly asleep.
For anyone else, this wouldn't really be considered out of the ordinary. Sure, the bard was rather good at holding his liquor, but everyone has their limits, so the other patrons mainly chalked this behavior up to Venti having had one too many.
Diluc, on the other hand, with his inside knowledge of Venti being a god, and the fact that, thus far, the bard had only ordered one glass of wine, found this behavior very out of character.
"...Are you okay?" Diluc asked, quietly, so as to not draw the attention of anyone else. When Venti didn't immediately respond, he picked up the bard's half-drunk glass of wine and lightly nudged him with the bottom of it. Venti finally opened one eye to look at him.
"....'M fine." He mumbled, "Just.... used a bit too much energy today."
"If that's the case, you should go home and rest, rather than continue to sulk around in here." Diluc said, crossing his arms.
"I went to Windrise earlier and rested for a bit." Venti said, sitting up and subtly rubbing his nose with the back of his hand.
"That's not what I- wait. Do you even have a house?" Diluc asked. Venti gave a tired laugh in response.
"Why do you ask? Are you offering for me to live with you?" He asked, a smirk on his face. Diluc sighed.
"I'll take that as a no, you don't have a house then." He said, "And absolutely not. If you think even for a minute I'd let you freeload at Dawn Winery, then you must be well past drunk."
"Can't let people say I didn't try." Venti said, coughing a little before sighing, rubbing his nose again as he sniffled. Diluc narrowed his eyes, looking the bard up and down again, taking in his... unusually messy and unkempt appearance, suspicious.
"...Are you sure you're okay?" He asked, and Venti gave that tired laugh again-
And then suddenly the bard paused, stiffening as he quickly pressed the back of his hand against his nose. Diluc raised an eyebrow in silent question, but Venti was no longer paying attention to him.
The bard abruptly stood up, muttering a quiet curse and stumbling a little. Quickly, ignoring Diluc's protests, he rushed around the counter, ducking down behind the bar to sit on the floor.
"What are you doing?" Diluc asked, and quickly got his answer as Venti's breath audibly hitched, his head tilting back-
"Heh- H'NGKt-shiew! HihH- H'NTCH-iew!" Venti stifled the two sneezes into his hands, the force of them making his body curl up tighter-
And a pair of feathered wings unfurled from his back, flaring out.
Thankfully, the wings didn't go high enough to be seen over the countertop. However, they did end up knocking over various bottles and glasses, sending the crashing to the floor, leaving shards of glass and puddles of spilled wine on the floor, and drawing the attention of quite a few of the patrons in the bar. Diluc quietly waved their attention away.
"I do hope you plan on cleaning this....." He started, only to trail off as he watched how the god tiredly shuddered as he drew his wings back into himself, and let them fade away. The whole process looked.... draining, to say the least. Diluc offered his hand as he helped Venti stand back up. Even through his glove, he could feel the heat coming off of Venti, and now Diluc was officially worried.
"I apologize for the mess I've made..." Venti said, staring down at the glass and wine on the floor. "Get me a mop, I'll help clean it up."
Diluc found he didn't really care about the mess on the floor.
"You're sick." He said, and Venti didn't even try to deny it.
"...Yes, I suppose I am coming down with something or other." The bard said, still not making eye contact with Diluc. "I'm sorry for being such a bother."
"Oh, stop with the rhyming." Diluc said, and he tightened his hold on Venti's hand, stepping out from behind the bar, dragging the bard along behind him. "I'm taking you to Jean."
There was, surprisingly, no resistance to this notion. As Diluc walked out into the cool night air of Mondstadt, he could feel Venti shiver beside him, but he chose not to comment on it, continuing to walk in the direction of the Knights of Favoinus headquarters. He didn't really like going in there, but for tonight it was necessary.
They'd just about made it halfway there when Venti suddenly stopped, tugging on Diluc's hand, attempting to free himself. Diluc looked at him questioningly, only to see a, now recognizable, look of mild panic on the bard's face, his free hand once again pressed against his nose.
"Really? Again?" Diluc asked, and Venti nodded frantically, not responding verbally, probably holding his breath in an attempt to keep himself from sneezing. Diluc looked around, there weren't many people out and about at this hour, but there were some people standing around, and so he quickly dragged Venti into the first alleyway he saw. He let go of the bard's hand just in time, as Venti was snapped forwards by a sneeze, his wings appearing and flaring out (causing Diluc to jump away to avoid being hit) as the god fell into a small fit of sneezes.
"Hih- H'ISHH-iew! H'Tt-shiew! Heh...hIH- H'ETSh-iew!"
"Bless you." Diluc said, as Venti sniffled miserably, wiping his nose on the back of his sleeve.
"You can't bless me, I'm a god, I'm already blessed." Venti said, laughing a little, which only caused him to start coughing. Diluc rolled his eyes as he gently patted the space in between Venti's wings in the hopes of it helping a little.
"You done?" Diluc asked, once Venti had stopped coughing. "Okay. Lets hurry up and get you to Jean."
"Wait." Venti said, his voice cracking a little from how hoarse it'd become. He cleared his throat and tried again. "Wait. We...kinda have a problem."
"What's wrong?"
"I...don't have enough energy to hide my wings." Venti said, quietly. "I've been doing this all day and I-"
"You don't need to explain it." Diluc said, sighing as he shrugged off his coat, before placing it over Venti's shoulders, effectively hiding the snow white wings from sight. "There. That should do until we get to Jean."
Venti reached up to pull the coat tighter around himself, looking almost swamped in it, considering how much shorter than Diluc he was. He clearly appreciated the warmth it brought to him though.
-
"Diluc, Venti!" Jean exclaimed, standing up from her desk as the two of them finally entered her office. "What are the both of you doing here so late at night?"
"Our little bard here need a..... secretive but warm place to stay the night." Diluc said, closing the door to the office behind him as he walked in.
"Why? What's wrong?" Jean asked, and almost as if on cue-
"Hih'NGKT-shiew!" Venti stifled a sneeze, his wings flaring out, knocking Diluc's coat off of him. Jean startled a little, but quickly recovered.
"Oh." She said, "I see."
"....'M sorry to bother you." Venti said, sniffling, gratefully accepting the tissues Jean proceeded to hand him in response. "I'd usually just stay in Windrise, but Mr. Diluc here decided I'd be better off with you."
"And you will be better off." Diluc said, "Seriously. You'll get better faster if you stay someplace warm."
"The tavern is warm." Venti protested, for the first time that night. "You could've just let me stay in the tavern."
"Absolutely not. Even sick, you probably would've drunken over half of my supplies." Diluc said, "Speaking of which. I still have a mess to clean up, so Jean, I trust I can leave the rest of this to you?"
"Of course." Jean confirmed, "I only had just a bit of paperwork left to do anyways, I've got time. You can go now."
Diluc gave her a nod, and turned to leave, picking up his coat from where it had fallen to the floor as he did so. He paused before opening the door, thinking for a moment, before laying his coat down on a nearby chair, in case Venti needed to use it again, before finally leaving the room. Once he'd left, Jean pulled off one of her gloves, placing the back of her hand against Venti's cheek before he could pull away.
"Hmm. You've got a fever." She said, "I've got some medicine in my desk but.... does medicine even work on you?"
"...It's only healing magic that doesn't work." Venti muttered, "Medicine is fine."
Jean quickly got the medicine out of her desk, setting up the right dosage, before handing it over to Venti. He took it quickly, grimacing in response to the flavor. Jean lightly put her hands on Venti's shoulders, just barely brushing up against his wings as she gently guided him out of the room, Venti picking up Diluc's coat and holding it tight against his chest as they left. Jean led him up the stairs towards one of the makeshift bedrooms, specifically made for people who had to spend the night at the headquarters. Luckily, Jean seemed to be the only one working late tonight, as they encountered no other guards as they walked through the halls.
"J-Jean...." Venti started, breath suddenly hitching, his wings tensing- "You....you might wanna duck...hIH- H'ESHH-iew!"
Jean took his advice, letting go of his shoulders and ducking down just in time to avoid receiving a wing to the face.
"Snf....Sorry..." Venti muttered, tired, as Jean stood back up, leading him the rest of the way to the bedroom.
"It's not your fault." She said, kindly. "You can't exactly control it."
Venti didn't respond, too tired to speak again after the amount of elemental energy he'd used up during the day. He slowly climbed into the bed, curling up around Diluc's coat, holding it like one would hold a stuffed animal or a baby blanket. Jean gave a soft laugh as she pulled the covers over top of him.
"Am I to presume Sir Diluc won't be getting that coat back anytime soon?" She asked, a note of light humor in her voice. The response she received was a light hum, which she took for a yes. She supposed she'd have to find some means of getting Diluc another, identical, coat then...
Jean turned to leave the room.
"Shout if you need something, okay?" She said, received another hum in response, and then quietly shut the door, leaving the god to sleep in peace.

Blended
I was (thankfully) given some time off during this holiday season; which I promptly used to spend time with the family and recharge at home. Also spent time watching various movies during this time and a little LoK story idea came from it.
In my usual writing preference – it’s still a Lin/Tenzin endgame story but – in sort of a modern setting AU, blended family/semi-highschool themed with ages differed a bit (Lin and Tenzin was aged down by around 5 years). Expect it to be tropey and may be a bit of a cliché. This is written on a whim so if it doesn’t make sense…ah well. Haha! May edit this piece later on…
I’m considering this to be a short story, just a little self-indulgent-written-for-fun type of thing. But if other people enjoy it too then that’s such an added bonus so I’m sharing it with you as well. 😊 Let me know what you think since this is somewhat different from my usual style, I guess.
Also – I have misgivings regarding creating OCs so I’m likely to lean on canon characters and take a lot of creative license in developing them for the story.
---
Title (tentative): Blended
Legend of Korra, Lin/Tenzin, Modern AU, no bending
(Not sure if one-shot or will be multi-part yet)
---
Tenzin, Republic City Primary School
“Thank you for making time to meet today,” The silver-haired lady clasped her hands together on her desk. “I know you must have a packed schedule, but I think it would be good to have the check-in session for your daughter today.”
“Yes, of course – anything for my daughter.” The bald and bearded man threw a look at the door’s window, where he could see his daughter swinging her legs while seated at the corridor.
“Ikki is a bright child and she’s been doing her best to catch up with the class requirements. She excels the most at individual tasks.” The teacher continued to talk a little bit more about the projects that the students have been working on.
Teacher Yue handed the father a folder marked “Ikki”. Tenzin carefully picked it up and looked into the contents, smiling as he saw Ikki’s artworks and class outputs.
“However, I see that she seems to have challenges in adjusting in a large class set-up.” Yue shared. “It’s nothing to worry about though. We’ve had several transferees in the past as well and this is usual; I expect that might take a little bit longer since it’s a transition from homeschooling to a big school.”
Tenzin frowned and he hurt for his daughter. His two children had both been homeschooled until recently.
They also had to experience a lot of upheaval in the past year or so – from the divorce, to being uprooted from their childhood home, moving to a new city, and then going to a new school.
He did notice that while his son was as precocious as ever (maybe owing to his young age?), his daughter had become more subdued since their move.
“What can we do for her?”
“Well, we have a big sister-little sister type of mentorship program.” The teacher pushed forward a brochure and several index cards. “It’s mostly an afterschool interaction activity, we have here several students who have been volunteering. Maybe you’d like to ask Ikki to join?” She pointed at the index cards. “Feel free to select which mentor you think would help her best. We usually ask the parent or the student to select their preferred mentor profile from the roster. We would not want Ikki to feel uncomfortable; you’d know her best than any teacher.”
He nodded. After a few moments perusing the index cards and the brochure and pulled out one from the pile. “Let’s go with this girl.”
Tenzin pointed out to a profile labelled Jinora.
---
Jinora, Home
The ten-year old girl has just finished putting hair in a bun when she heard a knock on her bedroom door.
“Jinora!” It was her oldest brother. “Mom says I can use the car today – want to leave with us instead of riding the bus?”
“Sure!” She called back, quickly grabbing her backpack. “I’ll be down in a bit.”
“Alright!”
Smack!
“Hey! Why did you do that for?”
“Good morning bro!”
Jinora rolled her eyes good-naturedly. That was probably her other brother slapping the arm of the other one.
Even at eighteen and sixteen years old respectively, they tend to act like children occasionally to the consternation of their mother.
She hurried down, knowing that if she did not do so, there would be no pancakes left for her.
Jinora heard her mother’s gruff voice in the dining room. “Bolin! Leave some eggs for your sister!”
“But, Mom,” Bolin spoke through a mouthful of scrambled eggs. “I’m a growing boy. I need this stuff.”
“And Jinora is a growing girl,” Their mother drolly responded, taking a sip of her coffee after putting down the last batch of pancakes on the platter. “There should be enough from everyone.”
“It’s fine, Mom,” Jinora immediately sat down and her brother forked two pancakes to her plate. “Thanks, Mako.” She slathered butter all over the cakes then squeezed a load of maple syrup.
She ignored Bolin gagging at her left at the amount of sweetness. She also ignored her mother who was hiding a smile and shaking her head at seeing the display.
In their family, it was only Jinora had a penchant for sweets. Her mother said she likely took after her father in that regard.
Her father…her absentee father…
Jinora shook off her maudlin thoughts when she saw Pabu, Bolin’s pet guinea pig, land on her mother’s shoulder, probably hopping from her brother’s backpack which was hung behind his chair.
Pabu began chewing their mother’s greying hair without warning.
Wheek-wheek-wheek.
“BOLIN!”
“I’m so sorry, Mom! Pabu get down from there – leave mom’s hair alone!”
All in all, it was another morning in their household.
It was noisy and sometimes chaotic, but Jinora would not exchange it for the world.
---
Ikki, library
Truth be told, Ikki liked going to school. She even liked her teacher and classmates.
She liked to be busy and the activities were very interesting. Getting homeschooled and only seeing their tutor, nanny and Meelo had become very tedious anyway.
Staying at their old home also reminded her acutely that their mother was not there anymore. She did not understand what happened, but she tried to.
It has been more than a year since their parents sat her and her brother down to explain that they were separating but it did not mean they did not love her and Meelo any less.
At first, she thought it might have been her fault (or maybe Meelo’s fault for that matter, he did fart a lot and that annoyed her terribly). Her dad and mom were quick to quash those theories, however. They spoke of drifting apart, change in priorities and other grown-up things that she supposed she will understand when she gets older.
But for now, she supposed as she opened her notebook on one of the long tables in the library, they would need to get used to their new living arrangement.
It was difficult last year as they were shuttled to and from two households. It also did not help that their mother was starting out with her new venture had been spending less time at her home. On the other hand, Ikki noticed their father spending more time with them, cutting down his work hours. It all came to a head when Pema had said she will be moving to another country to establish her new business. And so, they ended up -.
“Hey, are you Ikki?”
Ikki looked up to see an older girl with dark brown hair in a bun.
She nodded her head yes.
The girl gave her a bright smile and extended her hand.
“I’m Jinora and welcome to Republic City!”
---
Lin, Future Industries Head Office
Lin tiredly wiped her glasses clean before putting them on again, rereading her email response for one last time before hitting send.
It had been a long yet productive day. Her team had managed to fulfill all the visual design requirements that were due that day. She reviewed the different files sent to the printers, making sure that the final and correct collaterals were attached.
Her last task was to ensure that the last set of proposals were on-brand and aligned with Future Industries’ visual identity. Once she had provided her comments and revisions needed on the file, she sat back as she waited for the files to be uploaded to their server.
She reached for her cellphone, wanting to check on her kids while waiting. She looked at their family group chat and read messages from the last time she sent one.
Ohana (Lin repressed the urge to cringe. That was the final time that she would ask Bolin to create their group chat)
Lin: Kids – as mentioned earlier, I’ll be home a bit late. No need to drop by to fetch me; have dinner already and don’t wait up.
Jinora: Mom, I’ll be staying behind after class – I got a mentee! ☺ Mako Bolin can you wait up?
Mako: Jinora Bo has training today; I think we can wait for you.
Bolin: Jinora 👍🏼
Jinora: Mako Bolin thanks! 🙌
Jinora: Mako what will you be doing while waiting? You sure you’ll be okay?
Mako: Don’t worry about me. I’ll manage.
Lin scrolled through some more messages. Knowing her eldest, Mako would like skulk off to the library.
Jinora: I met my mentee this afternoon. She’s such a lovely girl.
Lin smiled at this. Her daughter had always been the polite one.
Jinora: Her name’s Ikki and she’s two years younger than me. She said she and her father had first checked out Patola Mountain Primary.
Lin frowned. Patola Primary was far; she went there as a child.
Mako: Kid didn’t like it there?
Jinora: They didn’t have the chance to know. They had to move besause of her father’s job.
Bolin: heeey sorry guys- just about to be done with training. Just gonna shower …unless I just shower at home?
Jinora: Ew, no Bo. Shower first please
Mako: Agree. You’ll stink up the car, bro.
Ding!
Lin drew her attention from her phone as her laptop screen indicated that the files have been uploaded. She hit the send button and packed up for the day.
She was looking forward to spending some quiet time with her kids tonight.

Bumi, White Lotus Headquarters
Bumi leaned back in his fully ergonomic chair, thinking about how times had changed.
Being in an office was something he balked at when he was younger. But now, after serving a long career in defense and military, he submitted his retirement and come to the aid of his younger brother.
Ah, his only brother – back in the day, he would be hard-pressed to keep contact with his brother.
His brother who took on the role of spearheading their family’s company back when their father died.
His brother who had the task of continuing to revive the company and making sure it keeps up with the times.
His brother, who, despite being the youngest, was tagged by the board of directors as the heir apparent owing to his excellent academic records.
His brother who Bumi had felt envious of at some point. He later on realized that his brother actually missed out on a lot of freedom in his life.
His brother who managed to keep their company part of the Top 100 and make malls relevant again.
His brother who probably made some life decisions for the benefit of their company rather than his own.
His brother who had been through hell and back the past year when he and his much younger wife called it quits. His brother whose ex-wife is now galivanting somewhere in the Fire Nation, expanding a business built on horticulture and floristry.
His brother who, despite making some decisions that Bumi might not agree with, is still family.
And if there was anything that their parents taught them – family is permanent.
The ex-military man took a deep breath, looking at their last family photo. For what it’s worth, he liked to think that their fragmented family had found its way back into each other in their adulthood.
Bumi had to admit that Tenzin did have remarkable business acumen that benefited their company, a conglomerate built on the mall industry. With the fourth industrial revolution at hand and the shift towards virtual and digital, the White Lotus Corporation had been challenged during the last years of their father’s life. Tenzin had worked hard to change the ways of working and the culture in the company.
To do it, he had to make sure that there is a buy-in from the board. Ironically, to bring the company to the current century, he had to abide with one of the most archaic practices – an arranged marriage, a marriage that would serve as a press release to the business world in general, that their company was stable and there to stay.
Bumi had been surprised to get a call from Tenzin back then. He had called to let him know of his impending engagement, seeking support. Bumi had cheered, given his congratulations – but named the wrong bride. He had launched into a long tirade, berating his brother for his choices. Tenzin had shouted back his defense.
He still did not understand why Tenzin acted the way he did. However, he could never regret his niece and nephew which came from this questionable business-like union.
Bloop-bloop-bloop.
Speaking of which…
“Hey Uncle Bumi!”
“Hello there, cloudchild!” Bumi greeted his niece with a nickname his sister Kya came up with, given that the kids were actually born somewhere near the mountains. “How’s the new school?”
“It’s great!” Ikki beamed at him and gushed into a long narrative of what she had been up to in the past days.
Bumi enjoyed video conferencing with his niece and nephew. Granted, Meelo had a short attention span but Ikki had always had the flair for storytelling.
It pleased him to see her spark back. He had heard from his brother and their trusted bodyguard/chauffeur Shung that Ikki had been withdrawn during the first weeks in Republic City. It saddened him to learn that the otherwise bubbly child had been affected in that way.
“…And then, I invited her over! Daddy said it was okay – and she’s sooooo nice. Didjaknow she also knows how to play the piano! We practiced a bit. She’s good even if her family didn’t have a piano, they only had this electronic keyboard but it’s so short. But she did well. She said she had a stepdad and it was totally okay. They’re a happy family. D’you think I’ll have a stepmom too? I think it would be okay if Daddy thinks so and maybe we’ll be a happy family here too and you know I joined this contest in school and I-.”
“Whoa, slow down, kiddo.” Bumi let out his booming laughter. “I didn’t quite catch it – what’s the name of your new friend?” He was heartened that Ikki seemed to have adjusted better now.
“Jinora!” His seven-year-old niece practically chirped the name. “She’s actually here!” Ikki turned to someone from beyond the view of the webcam. “Jin, it’s my Uncle Bumi – I want you to meet him!”
“Um, it’s fine, Ikki.” A calm voice of an older child can be heard. “I can wait here.”
“Nooonseeense.” Bumi could see Ikki pull something, rather someone to the camera. “Uncle Bumi, this is my friend Jinora. Jinora, my Uncle Bumi.” She said by way of introducing them.
Jinora gives a small wave and a soft hello.
Bumi gives them a short bow. “Nice to meet you, Jinora. It’s great to meet the friend of my favorite niece (Ikki please don’t tell Korra).”
Ikki gives a delighted clap and proceeds into another lengthy tale on what she and Jinora were working on that day at home.
Bumi smiles back at them, observing the children’s banter as they demonstrate the monologue that Ikki was preparing for. It was amusing.
Heh, they could be cousins.
He recalled when he was young, he, his siblings and even the sisters-who-must-not-be-named would stay over in one house after school to work on school projects. It had been one of the highlights of his childhood. He was glad that his niece would be somewhat experience it; he had been worried a few years back when Tenzin and Pema (primarily Pema) were very protective of their kids. It was to the point that they were both homeschooled and basically kept out of the public eye and the public itself.
It can’t be good for socialization. But what can he say? He didn’t have kids so he probably wouldn’t know what he was talking about, right?
He’s just fun ole Uncle Bumi.
Nonetheless, as he turned his attention back to the two girls, Bumi promised himself that he will always be there for his brother’s kids. It’s the least he could do as their godfather.

Mako, Republic City High
“I worry about Mom.” Mako picked at his dumplings during lunch time, a stark contrast to his brother who was eating a lot (“Coach said I needed to bulk up!”).
“Why? Has my dad been overworking her?” Asami slipped beside him at their usual lunch table. She brought out her packed lunch of pasta and a bottle of coconut water. “Just let me know and I can try to look into it.” She was, after all, interning at Future Industries in her spare time.
“Now that’s just powerplay.” The exchange student from Ba Sing Se High chortled, taking a sip of his sparkling water. “And that’s a no-no and Auntie will definitely get mad if she hears about that.”
“You would know about powerplay,” Bolin swallowed a mouthful of chicken, pointing his fork at the other boy. “Wasn’t that why you got the last slot in the elective you wanted to take this year?”
“Who? Me?” The other boy dramatically placed a hand on his chest, eyes widening. “You think, I Wu would stoop so low as to manipulate the results of the audition for the voice elective? Don’t you think I have enough talent to get into that class?”
Bolin just snorted into his food and Asami choked on her drink. Wu cracked a smile at their reactions.
“Again, Wu – don’t let Mom hear you call her Auntie.” Mako reiterated for the nth time in their friendship. “She hates it.”
“That’s why I do it.” Wu winked at them.
“Wait, Mako, what were you saying about Mom?” Bolin managed to ask in between bites of food. “Is something wrong? I mean, she’s a little bit run-down but she said it’s just because of the time of the year.” The last quarter of the year, after all, is usually the busiest.
“No, it’s just – well,” Mako sought words to explain it. “I’ll be leaving for college, you’ll be away for training, and okay, Jinora would be there but she’s in middle school now…” He trailed off. With Jinora’s aptitude and interests, Mako would not be surprised if she took on a lot of electives and extra-curricular activities. “Mom works too hard, you know?” He ended lamely.
“She has always looked out for us, but yeah,” A shadow passed over his brother’s face. “Ever since Pa passed away a few years back, she poured much of her energy to ensuring our welfare. She’s barely spent time for herself.”
Mako met Bolin’s now worried eyes.
The brothers knew that their mom had sacrificed a lot for them and Jinora.
When they first met Lin and one-year-old Jinora, she had already been under a lot of duress – taking care of a baby, leaving behind Jinora’s deadbeat dad, settling down in a new neighborhood and restarting a career. It had been two years later when she married their father San, who had been a sergeant at the city’s police station at the time.
And, Mako thought wearily, history has not been kind to Lin Beifong at all. While they did have four years (four wonderful years that Mako will treasure for the rest of his life), their fairytale-like family life came to an abrupt end.
San was involved in an armed bank robbery four years later and had not survived the gunshot wounds – leaving Lin behind with two boys at the brink of puberty and a young daughter.
Bolin and Jinora had been very confused at the time. Mako, already fifteen, had been expecting that he and Bolin would be forced into the system or sent off to their relatives in Ba Sing Se. He felt that Lin would not be in any way obligated to take him and his brother in; they were not blood relatives anyway. They were just stepchildren.
To his stunned astonishment, Lin did neither. He recalled crying in Lin’s arms that night after his father’s funeral.
She had asked him, with a confused expression, why he was packing. Lin wept alongside him as she explained that Mako and Bolin are her sons and there was no way that she was sending them away.
Since then, Mako made sure to look after his mom the way she looked after them. The brothers’ protectiveness was soon well-known in their neighborhood.
Probably also why no one had expressed any type of interest towards Lin even years after…
Mako reflected that it might have been a good move on their part but now it might have been a little bit selfish.
He and Bolin would now need to rethink their strategy…
After all, their mom Lin deserves all the happiness in the world.

Tenzin, Republic City Primary School – Parking Lot
“Are you sure you’re not just using this as an excuse to have a sleepover?” Tenzin looked over at his daughter, a teasing grin out of place on his face.
“Of course not, Daddy.” Ikki replied indignantly, kicking pebbles as they waited at the parking lot.
“Why can’t you do the project at our house?” He was actually leaning towards allowing Ikki on her first ever sleepover/overnight but he wanted to hear from his daughter.
“We’ll need a big big printer, Daddy.” Ikki raised her arms to show him just how big. “We’ll need to print out my project and Jinora’s mommy has a big printer and lamin-lami-lamintor (“Laminating machine, dear?” Tenzin clarified.) because she frilancets (“Freelances?”).”
“Mmhhmm.” Tenzin looked across the school building, shifting Ikki’s overnight bag on his shoulder.
Ikki timidly approached him the other night, asking if she could spend Friday night and Saturday at her friend Jinora’s house. They had an output required of them of the big sister-little sister program. Tenzin was actually unclear as to what is the specific output that the girls had decided on but it did require a large-scale printer and a laminating machine.
Jinora attempted to explain to him what they were going to do during the last week that they were in his house but he felt out of his depth so he had nodded and let them work on what they needed to.
The father had met Jinora several times already in the past months so he knew the child was in earnest that their intent for the overnight activity would be mainly to finish a project. He also realized (well, Bumi made him realize) that Ikki was old enough for a sleepover (and Pema’s overprotectiveness would be to the detriment of their kids’ development). Additionally, he thought grimly, it would also keep Meelo from wreaking havoc on the work area of the girls.
Nonetheless, he took up Jinora’s mom’s offer to meet up for snacks before she takes the kids home. This would give him a chance to meet the mom, discuss some ground rules and as well thank the mom privately for letting Jinora help Ikki come out of her shell during her first months in Republic City Primary. Jinora did say that her pa and mom used to do the same before she spends the night over at her other friends – the parents meet up, share a small meal, get to know each other. Tenzin thought this was a good parenting tactic; it would definitely assuage his fears as well.
But now, said mom was late.
Jinora had hurried to them, dragging with her a large cartolina and illustration board. She explained that her mom’s work meeting overran and if it would be okay if she rode with them? Her mom will be meeting them at the local diner instead, so they don’t get caught up in traffic.
Tenzin could feel his impatience growing.
So far, this woman was not making a good impression on him.
How on earth she produced a lovely daughter like Jinora was beyond him.
---
Lin, Narook’s
Damn Sato, Lin ground her teeth as she finally parked her car into the last parking space in front of Narook’s. Of all the days for a meeting to go over time, it has to be today when she had explicitly asked to leave early to fetch her daughter.
Jinora had provided her enough context to know that making a good impression with Ikki’s dad was important to her daughter.
Lin heard that the dad was some big shot divorced corporate guy, who, she thought, was a bit paranoid about his kids’ safety.
Lin acted as an arts club moderator so she was regularly present at the Republic City High, which gave her chances to meet Ikki whenever she drops by the primary school to fetch Jinora.
The girl was a sweet child – energetic and delightful once she felt comfortable enough with you. It had come to her attention, in the short conversations with the kid, that she was not allowed to go out and play with other kids in their old neighborhood so she was very much excited to have a new friend outside of her class and her family.
When Jinora mentioned their culminating project and their dilemma on the timeline and materials, Lin suggested that they take the project home to work on.
The crestfallen expression of Ikki as she stated that her dad would not allow her pushed Lin to share that she’s willing to talk to the dad to help convince him to give his permission.
The infectious smile that burst on Ikki’s face was enough to convince Lin that she made the right decision.
Now, however, as she entered the diner, spotting her daughter at the corner booth, she froze and started to doubt all her life decisions that led to this moment.
Wondering and questioning the universe what had she done in her past life for her to deserve this.
Across Jinora, beside the talkative Ikki, sat Tenzin – her former boyfriend and Jinora’s father.

Better Love Notes
If you’re confused about location, timing, or characters in my Narcos AU series Better Love, this is the post for you.
Better Love is an AU reader insert series that begins midway through Narcos season two. Because it is AU, and because Narcos is complicated af anyway, I wanted to take some time to clarify what things in Better Love will be different than what you're used to seeing in the show.
Hannah “Ears” Aarons
First, I think it’s important to clarify that Ears is more of an OC written in second person than she is a generic reader insert. I might refer to her as “you,” but Ears has a name, a face claim, a backstory, and a huge personality. If that bothers you loads, I totally understand and you’re free to duck out at any point, but don’t come at me. If you have specific questions regarding Ears’ background, personality, physical appearance, family history, or whatever else, get with me privately. I would love to introduce you to my chaotic sunshine child.
Official Job Title: Ears is officially an employee of the CIA, but she is not an agent (read: spy). She was brought to Colombia to be a liaison between Centra Spike, the DEA, and the CIA. She introduces herself to Search Bloc by saying, "I'll be your ears," but in reality, she was put in place to be Bill Strechner’s ears. More on that later. She has a background with the US Army that's basically useless (desk job), a ton of training and zero practical experience with flyover recon and radiofrequency tracking, and she's itching to do something real with her life.
Timing
Ears arrives in Bogotá around August of 1992 and falls in bed with Peña pretty much immediately. Horacio Carillo did die recently, but Javi did not start working with Los Pepes and Don Berna until November of 1992. Assume all of the drama with Martinez Jr. and Los Pepes took place around the time that he and Ears were on the outs - that's just another factor that led Javi to make the emotional, rash decision to work with the cartels that he winds up regretting.
There is actually a one year span of time between season two, episode six and the end of the show. Pretty much the entirety of Better Love (for now) takes place during this year, so if it seems like I’m really stretching things out, that’s actually because the show mushed it all together. I promise, guys, I have done my research here.
Locations
The majority of scenes in Better Love will take place in Bogotá, the capital city of Colombia. It’s important to keep Bogotá separate from Medellín, which is where the nit and grit of the hunt for Escobar takes place.
Getting to Medellín from Bogotá requires a one hour flight or an eight hour drive (Colombia is roughly twice the size of Texas, fyi). For a gringo, driving around the cities was dangerous, but driving outside the cities was suicide. Javi and Steve might take planes, or they might take an armored chopper, depends on my mood when I'm writing. Assume there's a landing strip nearby the embassy, because I'm lazy like that.
The U.S. Embass(ies): Centra Spike, Search Bloc, and the DEA office are all housed in the old embassy building that's basically right across from the new one (the super upscale nice one that actually functions as an embassy).
There's a lot of confusion and shuffling around in the show, so I wanted to clarify what goes where (also, the real Murphy and Peña had offices in the old, unused embassy, so this is sort of legit). For simplicity's sake, I am assuming that CNP (Colombian National Police) headquarters are also in or nearby this building. Ears might refer to "headquarters," "the office," or "the embassy," and it's all the same place. Basically, everything is centrally located in Bogotá, and when I refer to “the DEA office,” or “Javi’s office,” picture it from season one - two desks that are not shoved on top of each other, with glass windows and real filing cabinets. The CIA is also located here, as is Strechner's office and the fabled White Room.
These buildings are in Bogotá, nearby Peña’s and Murphy's apartments. I will differentiate between the New, Swanky, Functional U.S. Embassy by capitalizing it and giving it its full title. If I say “embassy,” assume I’m talking about the older one where Javi and Ears are based.
The Carlos Holguin School: This is the base of Search Bloc operations in Medellín, and the primary location that we see in season two of the show. Think of it almost as a military base - training grounds, barracks, bare-bones, no a/c, shitty food. Javi and Steve often stay at "the school" overnight while conducting operations in Medellín. They might also refer to this as “camping” or “the camp,” or “base.” It sucks balls. This is where Javi and Steve have their messy, shoved on top of each other desks that we tend to associate with the show. Javi and Steve still work from here just as often as we see in canon, there just won’t be as many scenes in this location because Ears is never there.
Javi’s apartment: Javi and Steve primarily live in Bogotá. This is the same apartment building that you see in season one, with the big steps in front of the building and then an even larger set of stairs inside. There is also a big set of stairs on the back end of the building that leads to an underground parking garage (we see this in the season one finale, where Steve gets snatched by Navegante). This building is a five minute walk to the U.S. Embassy, but Javi and Steve mostly chose to drive for safety and convenience. It’s in a pretty decent part of Bogotá. There is one small canon deviation in regards to the apartments: in Better Love, Javi lives upstairs, across from Steve’s front door instead of below him like we see in the show. They share a large front landing. I just really liked the idea of Javi having a view of the city from his bedroom window.
Ears’ apartment: Ears lives in a tiny little flat on top of a drug store, a place that she found on her own through the friend of a work friend. It’s also in a decent part of Bogotá, but not quite as safe or upscale as Javi’s. It’s about a ten minute hike from the embassy and fifteen minutes from Javi’s place.
Miscellaneous
CIA/DEA Collaboration: The relationship between the CIA and the DEA in Colombia was not pretty. The show makes it look like a personal conflict between Strechner and Peña, but in reality, it was so much deeper than that. These two organizations have opposing goals, and communication and sharing of information was a real problem. Basically, they squabble more than they collaborate, and there was a lot of backstabbing, underhanded fuckery, and generally getting in each other's way. Naturally, this is going to create tension between Ears and Javi.
Bill Stechner: The show makes it clear that Bill doesn’t give a shit about Escobar or the cartels except in regards to the power dynamics they create, but let me reiterate here - his primary goal in Colombia is to keep it from becoming a communist state. That’s all he wants.
OC Sicarios: Don't get Velasco (canon sicario) mixed up with Verdugo (my OC sicario). They are different characters. Verdugo is the guy who features in The Rules of Engagement.
Feo is another sicario who is an OC. More updates on him later.
Canon Deviations in Better Love
Series spoilers from this point on. I’m going to take it fic by fic, so if you haven’t read something and don’t want to be spoiled, stop at the bold print. Again, Better Love is super fucking plotty, so I thought it was only fair to give you guys a reference sheet. Lord knows I need one, too.
The Rules of Engagement: Introduces Ears. Horacio Carillo did die recently, but Javi’s role in his death is undetermined/not mentioned. Javi does start working with Los Pepes during Rules, but only after he and Ears have their fallout. All of the bullshit with Martinez Jr. and the Castaño brothers takes place during the time that Javi and Ears aren’t speaking.
Aftershocks: Establishes with certainty that Javi is working with the cartels. His primary contact with Los Pepes is Don Berna. This is going to be critical later. Also establishes that Don Berna has more connection to the Cali cartel than he does in canon.
Yours: Establishes that Connie Murphy is a badass biker bitch with a heart of gold, because I think the show did her dirty. She loves Steve and Steve loves her. Ears and Stechner get to know each other a little better, and Javi doesn’t like this one bit. Ears starts thinking about a leak in Search Bloc, and how dangerous that might be for Javi.
Bang: Javier Peña gives Ears a shady ass, probably trafficked gun for her protection. We don’t know details of where he got it. Solidifies the bro/sis relationship between Steve and Ears. Implies heavily that Javi is doing some shady things with some shady folks. A light introduction to the theme of weapons trafficking in Colombia, which was a massive problem that is barely even mentioned in the show. It will feature heavily in Better Love.
The Shoebox: Introduces the character of Arturo, Ana Delgado’s shady older brother. Ears starts wondering if Ana knows more than she should. Confirms that the Fernando Duque arc does take place in Better Love, and that Javi is genuinely torn up by it like he is in canon. This leads Ears to start thinking more deeply about that leak in Search Bloc, and she begins to actively collect evidence with the intention of sniffing out the rat and keeping Javi safe. Mentions sex trafficking, a major problem in Colombia at the time, and also a minor theme later on in Better Love.
Shit Hits the Fan: Establishes that Arturo Delgado is actually a hitman working with Los Pepes, and that he and Javi have gone on some raids together. Javi is desperate to keep this a secret from Ears, who is friends with Ana, both for her protection and because he’s kind of ashamed of how deep he’s in with Los Pepes. Establishes that in the wake of the Ferando Duque debacle, the Castaño brothers did not reach out to Stechner for help, but instead decided to put a hit out on Javi to either kill or scare him off. Javi is no longer working with Los Pepes, but he never did find out that Stechner was the one who set him up in the first place.
The White Room: Bill Stechner reveals to Ears that her purpose in Colombia is to be his own personal spy on the DEA. He is investigating a mysterious sicario named Feo in relation to a massive russian weapons ring. Bill wants Ears to report everything that the DEA learns about Feo because he suspects that Feo might have connections with FARC, a communist guerrilla group that is Stechner’s public enemy number one. Ears realizes that she’s in deep shit, and also realizes the depth of the resentment between the DEA and the CIA, and how much their goals in Colombia actually oppose. Stechner is revealed to be a real bag of dicks here.
Closing notes
Whew, okay. I will update this post periodically if more information becomes necessary or if you guys have questions, and I’ll reblog it if I do. I’m going to go ahead and tag my taglist folks in this, just because it’s a huge information dump. Of course, you probably don't need to know these things to get the gist of what’s going on in Better Love, but if you’re a chronic overanalyzer like me, it might be helpful.
Also, let me know if you guys want a list of the characters who are major players in the series. I know I had to make one for myself but I wasn’t sure if posting it would be overkill (this is probably already overkill, tbh).

bad day
Pairing: Kim Namjoon x reader
Genre: smut
Word Count: 4k
Warnings: established relationship, anal fingering, gagging (with panties), oral sex (male and female receiving), vaginal fingering, butt plug, tied-up (by a belt), vibrators, unprotected sex (use a condom irl), some light dirty talk and offensive names (cock-slut), spanking, squirting, multiple orgasms, cream pie, soft dom!Namjoon, cum eating, fingering after sex, it somehow turned soft idk how, unedited work
Summary: you had a bad day at work, and Namjoon tries to make it better
***
Talk about a day from hell. It all started when you woke up, an hour late, your phone ringing incessantly next to your ear. According to your phone it was 8am – the time that you usually started work – while the caller ID flashed your friend’s name from work. She had phoned to tell you that there was a meeting with everyone in the company, and it started in half an hour.
Pushing your long-term boyfriend, Namjoon (who was still peacefully sleeping), off of you, you ran into your bathroom and took the shortest, most chaotic shower in history. Five minutes later, you were rushing to get clothes on. Your boyfriend, who had woken up when he realised that he was alone in bed, peered up at you, still snuggled close against the blanket. You wanted nothing more than to stay in bed with him the entire day, but you couldn’t.
Once you had gotten your white blouse and black skirt on, you slipped your black heels, then leaned down to kiss Namjoon, with a hurried “goodbye, love you”.
Somehow, thankfully, you were only five minutes late for the company meeting. Yet you were late, nonetheless. Your boss, who was usually an impatient twit by nature, was even more so today, and took twenty minutes of the meeting to berate you about your tardiness.
Fine, you thought, I probably deserved that for being late. But it was almost as if the universe had decided that today was the day that everything was going to go wrong.
After the meeting, you walked into your office and found it flooded. Your usually neat office was somehow the only room that had suffered any damage in the entire building. Lovely, you sourly thought as you plucked a piece of paper that had your newest business proposal printed on it from the water.
By midday, you found yourself sharing an office with the same friend who had called you that morning. Sadly, she was your boss’s PA, and her office was right next to his. Only separated by a half-frosted glass partition. You also found yourself starving, having not eaten anything the entire day; and you made peace with the fact that you also wouldn’t be eating anything until you went home – your boss had clearly said that because you were late, you had to work the extra time in, essentially taking away your lunch break. In between everything that had already happened, someone bumped into you earlier, spilling coffee all over your white blouse. Not that it was a big deal, but it simply added to your list of annoying things that had happened today.
At around 3pm, you received a call from Namjoon – the one good thing about your day. Quickly answering the call, you ducked down so that your boss couldn’t see. “Hi, babe.”
“Hey, baby girl.” His deep voice cooed, making you melt. It had only been a few hours, but you missed him. “Is everything okay? I haven’t heard from you the entire day.”
You know it was stupid, but the way he said it, like he cared so deeply, made you tear up. “Joonie…” You sighed, closing your eyes. “This is the worst day I’ve ever had.”
You began listing everything that had transpired, Namjoon listening quietly. As the conversation neared its end, you saw your boss’s door open, making you quickly end the call, and continued with your boring spreadsheet of figures.
At 5pm, you basically ran out the office, desperate to get through the traffic as soon as you could. As you pulled into your driveway, it was long after sunset, and you were exhausted; wanting nothing more than to eat while watching TV with Namjoon, cuddled on the couch.
You walked into the living room, dropping your car keys onto the coffee table, immediately being met with Namjoon’s embrace. You buried your head in his chest as he kissed the top of your head, rubbing your back gently.
“Missed you.” Namjoon hummed, before you broke your hug. You just flashed him a small smile, before pecking him, happy to finally be home. “I set out some clothes for you on the bed.”
As you walked into the room, you smiled gratefully as you found one of his shirts – your favourite one – on the bed. Quickly peeling off your work clothes, you pulled the shirt over you, now wearing nothing but your panties and his shirt, that fell to your mid-thigh.
As you quickly shuffled to the living room, you found Namjoon accepting something at the door. He turned around with a packet from your favourite fast food place, and he grinned at your brightly.
Half an hour later, you found yourself stuffed with food, happily cuddling into Namjoon, with your back against his chest.
“I’m sorry I made you late for work.” He said, kissing your collarbone. You sighed and leaned your head against him, subconsciously giving him more exposed skin to devour.
“It’s not your fault.”
“I’m the one who kept you up.” He frowned.
You found yourself smirking, unknowingly, your mind flashing back to last night. Namjoon had suggested something new in the bedroom, which was anal play; it was nothing crazy, as it was your first time doing anything like it, but it felt amazing. Your orgasms had been mind-blowing. They had left you shaking, a light gleam of sweat coating your body; you were sure that you’d passed out somewhere in-between the heavenly pleasure.
“What are you suddenly smirking about?” Namjoon asked, his eyebrow raised as you realized you had crossed your legs, an attempt to stop yourself from getting aroused.
“Um…” You said, embarrassed. “Last night…”
Now Namjoon was the one smirking. “You enjoyed it, sweetheart?” Nodding shyly, you turned to face him, straddling him to be more comfortable. He ran his large hands over your exposed thighs, leaving goose bumps in their wake. “Would you want to try it again?” As you nodded again, Namjoon chuckled. “Can I try something new today?”
“You already know my answer.” You replied, breathlessly, your arousal beginning to drip out of you, as your mind flashed back to last night and the premise of something new tonight. You subconsciously began to grind on Namjoon, making him groan.
“Play nice, Y/N.” He warned, making you cease your actions as he grabbed your hips. “Go to the room.”
Getting up and almost running to your shared bedroom, Namjoon couldn’t help but chuckle at your eagerness. Getting up from the couch himself, he opened a package that had arrived that morning after you hastily left for work. Grabbing what he was searching for, he slipped it into his pocket before following your footsteps.
You had already stripped of Namjoon’s shirt, leaving you in your tiny black thong. When Namjoon entered the room, you knew his eyes were trained on your clothed pussy, eyes only leaving it to get something from your shared walk-in closet. Heart beating profusely, you knew you were in for a long night; Namjoon only took your toys from the closet when he wanted to make you cry with pleasure. You had quite fond memories of the toys in the closet.
Namjoon walked back to you, his belt in his hand, before leaning down to kiss you roughly. His soft, plump lips pressed against yours before shoving his tongue into your mouth, making you whimper at the roughness, as your arousal continued to drip out of you, soaking the tiny piece of fabric covering your core.
His tongue massaged your own, swallowing your moans as his hands roamed all over your body, eventually one hand settling on your ass, kneading it, while the other dipped into your soaked panties, allowing Namjoon to feel your arousal.
“All for me?” He teased quietly, gathering your slickness on his fingers before pushing them into your mouth, making you taste yourself. “How sweet do you taste, baby girl?” You just whined in response, causing him to tut at you. “Guess I’ll just have to find out myself then, hmm?”
He moved you to the bed, dropping his belt next to you, then shedding his shirt, leaving him only in sweatpants. Sliding down your sodden panties, he immediately deposited them into your mouth, causing you to essentially be gagged. Your sweet juices coated your tongue, making Namjoon hum happily.
Kissing down the length of your neck, he stopped at the base of your neck, biting down harshly at your collarbone, then sucking on it, leaving dark red marks that will surely turn into deep purple bruises soon. He continued to assault your neck, only stopping to take one of your hardened nipples into his mouth, his fingers tweaking at the other. He sucked your sensitive bud, before switching his position, so that he could take the other one in his warm mouth.
As his tongue skimmed over your nipple, he was bucking into your core, not giving you enough friction to get any relief. His sweatpants acted as a barrier between his throbbing cock and your dripping folds. As your hands tried to pull his pants off, he harshly bit your breast, making you cry out.
“Behave, Y/N.” He snapped, then went back to leaving marks on your chest. Once he was satisfied at the angry, red spots left on your skin, he kissed down your stomach, finally getting to your core, which was pulsing uncomfortably from the lack of attention.
“Hmm, always dripping for me, huh?” He murmured, spreading your folds so that you were completely exposed to him. The panties that were still in your mouth prevented you from replying, until he looked up at you, chuckled, then reached up and removed them from your mouth. “You’re allowed to make as much noise as you want today, sweetheart.”
Not even a second later, he attached his mouth onto your swollen clit, making you cry out, as his soft, warm mouth encased it. Flicking his tongue over your clit, he began to slowly finger your core, causing you to moan and tangle your fingers in his lush hair. He entered you with two fingers, almost immediately curling them against your tight, sodden walls, while he continued to alternate between licking stripes across your clit, and suckling on it, harshly.
“Nam…joon.” You sighed, feeling euphoria encase your entire being. He abruptly stopped his actions, making you cry out in protest. He just chuckled, before pressed his forefinger into your asshole, causing you to squeak at the sudden intrusion. His finger slid in easily, still slick from your wet pussy.
He went back to licking stripes across your clit, before quickly sticking his stiffened tongue into your pussy, tongue-fucking you mercilessly. As his tongue shot in and out of you, he began to rub tight circles onto your clit with his freehand, releasing an endless supply of whines and cries from your throat.
His single finger curling around your tight asshole, his tongue fucking your pussy without pausing and the incessant rubbing of your clit made the coil in your stomach snap, causing you to cum hard on Namjoon’s tongue. His actions didn’t cease, even with your thighs shaking on either side of his head. You fingers knotting in his hair, whimpering, and moaning as your pleasure linked with the dullest pain, as your pussy quivered from sensitivity.
“J-Joon…” You whispered, trying to pull him off of you. When he didn’t stop, you whimpered out, “Please… H-hurts…”
“You taste so good.” He replied, finally giving into your pleading as he allowed you to pull him up to your mouth. “Your pussy tastes so sweet. It’s intoxicating.”
He came up, laying down on the bed next to you, his mouth pressed against yours in an open-mouthed kiss. He nibbled on your lip, before massaging his tongue with yours. A moan involuntarily left your mouth when you tasted your cum on his tongue, which had seemingly soaked into every crevice of the magical appendage.
You pulled away, with the intentions of taking Namjoon’s cock into your mouth. As you began to pull his sweatpants down, you felt something oddly shaped in his pocket. He smirked up at you, as he palmed himself through his boxers.
“Take it out my pocket, baby. It’s for you.” He instructed, sliding his boxers down with his sweatpants, leaving him in all his gorgeous glory. Curiosity nibbling at your very being, you pulled out a small, bright pink… Something. You didn’t really know what it was, so you stared up at Namjoon, questioningly. He groaned, “Fuck, you look so innocent right now, sweetheart. Do you know what that is?” Shaking your head, no; he smirked. “It’s a butt plug. I got a small one, for now, baby girl. I don’t want to overwhelm you, yet.”
“How am I supposed to use it?” You asked, completely confused, as your hand encased the small silicone toy. Namjoon sat up, taking it from you. This action drew your eyes to his cock, which rested against his tummy. The angry red tip gleamed with pre-cum, making your mouth water, craving the salty, delicious taste of him in your mouth.
Your tongue ran over your bottom lip, something that Namjoon caught you doing, before smirking. Only when he stopped talking, did you realise that he was talking. You looked up at him, innocently, before pouting, making him chuckle.
“I was explaining how we were going to use it, but it seems like your attention is elsewhere, sweetheart.” He murmured, running his thumb over your bottom lip to make you release it from your teeth, you didn’t even realise you were biting it.
“Please…” You whispered, leaning into his touch, wanting nothing more than to take his cock into your mouth. He nodded, giving you the go ahead, before leaning back and allowing you to do whatever you wanted.
Your velvety soft mouth encased the head of his dick, lightly suckling on it, swiping your tongue over the slit so you could taste the pre-cum. As you did this, Namjoon sucked in a deep breathe, his hands weaving into your long hair. Moaning at his delicious taste, you took more of him into your mouth, softly massaging his balls.
“Hmm… Fuck, Y/N.” He groaned, “Your mouth is so fucking good, baby.”
You continued to suck on his cock, swirling your tongue around the head. After a few moments of doing this, you decided to take him even deeper into your throat, sinking your head down until your nose was nestled against his pubic bone. He let out a string of curses, bucking into your mouth.
Gagging around his girthy, long length, your throat muscles massaged his cock, enveloping Namjoon in its warmth. You moaned as he leaked more pre-cum into your throat, your saliva leaking out the corners of your mouth. Namjoon bucked into you again, releasing a whimper out of you, before he pulled out of your mouth.
You whined at the loss of his exquisite taste, but he just took a deep breath, not acknowledging your neediness to have him bucking into your mouth. “But, baby...” You whined, your desire for his cock making him chuckle. “Want you to cum in my mouth.”
“Let me cum in your pussy, sweetheart.” He said, still chuckling at how needy you were. It was endearing as much as it was enticing. He moved off the bed, now standing on the floor behind you. He grabbed his belt, positioning your arms so that it was behind you, and proceeded to loop the belt around a single arm, then both, making sure that you were bound tightly.
“Is that too tight, sweetheart?” He asked, sweetly, kissing up your spine. You shivered, relishing the way he ghosted his plump lips over your skin. After shaking your head at his question, he positioned you the way he wanted. The front of your body was pressed flush against the bed with your arms tied behind you. Seeing you splayed out for him, Namjoon groaned.
Grabbing the lube from the nightstand, which was left there from last night’s activities, he squirted some into his hand, then slowly lubricated the pink silicone toy. After getting the butt plug sufficiently coated, he deposited the excess lube onto your asshole, making you gasp. Spreading the slippery substance all over your anus, he leaned forward kissing your neck, before nibbling on the shell of your ear.
“Tell me if you want me to stop, okay, baby?” He murmured into your ear. You nodded, your pussy clenching around nothing as he continued to work lube into your asshole. After he deemed it enough, you felt Namjoon press the blunt head of the butt plug against your puckered hole, making you release some of your juices onto the sheets.
He slowly eased the toy in, allowing the sounds coming from your mouth to guide how fast or slow he should be going. Once he had fit the whole thing in you, he turned your head and kissed you chastely.
“You look so fucking sexy with it in you, baby girl.” He groaned. You couldn’t form words – the plug filled you so well, you almost couldn’t have coherent thoughts. Namjoon got off the bed, making you whine, wanting nothing more than him; just him. Due to your position, you couldn’t turn back and see where he had gone, instead, you were forced to simply wait for him.
A few moments later, you felt the bed between your legs dip, signalling his return.
“Where did you go?” You whimpered, your neediness evident. Namjoon ignored you, lifting up your hips to place something directly onto your clit. You moaned when you felt it was your ribbed vibrator, which was still turned off. He really wanted to pleasure you today.
“Oh, I forgot to tell you,” He murmured into your ear. “This is a vibrating butt plug.”
Pressing the button on both the butt plug and the vibrator, Namjoon sat back for a few seconds, watching you moan, the heavenly sounds pumping more blood to his dick, making it impossibly hard. The ribbed vibrator curled around your clit, making the whole piece of flesh sensitive, while the butt plug pulsed rhythmically in your asshole, just edging you closer and closer to the edge.
“Joonie!” You cried, feeling like you were close, so close, but it didn’t feel like you could reach an orgasm without Namjoon’s touch. You felt his gaze on you, the mattress still dipped between your legs. “P-Please… I n-need you in me-e!”
He ran the head of his cock across your folds, before slowly pushing himself in you, stretching your walls to their breaking point around his girthy length. You let out a loud moan, your hands straining to be let out of their confinements.
“Fuck! I can feel the toys too.” He said, panting as he dragged his cock of you, before slamming back in. “You feel so tight, sweetheart. Your pussy is clenching around me so tight. Gonna fuck you until you’re crying.”
With that promise, Namjoon began to fuck you into the mattress, mercilessly. He entered you repeatedly, his hips snapping against your plump ass, making the obscene sound of skin-on-skin. His balls slapped your pussy lips incessantly, making the tiniest contact with your vibrator, only adding to Namjoon’s pleasure.
“Ah – Namjoon!” You cried, feeling him press against the small of your back, making you push onto the vibrator even harder. The butt plug was still sending shocks of pleasure right down to your core, making you release more and more arousal. Slapping your ass, making it redden under his palms, Namjoon started to fuck you so hard that you moved slightly up the bed with each thrust.
“Baby, I’m gonna cum!” You whimpered, feeling your throat raw from all the moans and whimpers you’ve been letting out. “F-Fuck, you’re so-o big…”
Your pussy clenched around Namjoon’s cock, making him moan into your ear. “You’re gonna cum on my dick, baby? While your ass is stuffed and your clit is swollen, huh? You’re gonna cream on my cock while I spank the fuck out of you? You’re such a cock-slut, Y/N. Always so needy for my dick, huh?”
To emphasize his point, he began to slap your ass cheeks, making your entire ass turn red; all while snapping his hips into yours. Paired with Namjoon’s filthy words and the fact that your pussy was being destroyed by his cock, your asshole filled with the pulsating butt plug, as well as the vibrator against your clit, you cried out his name, before cumming all over the sheets and Namjoon’s cock.
You felt a rush of wetness slip out of you; your cries caught in your throat at the sheer power of your orgasm. You vaguely heard Namjoon groan, not faltering in his thrusts, before he continued his assault on your poor pussy.
“You just squirted all over me, baby girl. You like this that much? Being tied up and forced to take everything that I give you? You dirty, little cock-slut.”
Your intense orgasm rendered you speechless, unable to form words or thoughts – but you knew one thing: Namjoon completely owned you. He made you feel things no one else could, and that no one else ever can. Once you came back around, head fully functional, you found Namjoon still fucking you.
“Yes, yes, yes, you take my cock so well, sweetheart.” He groaned, roughly pulling your hair so that your neck snapped against his shoulder. You whimpered, the position making his tip nudge against your cervix. The squelching of your pussy around his cock made him groan, the dirty sound bringing him closer and closer to his own release. “I’m so fucking close, Y/N!”
“You gonna cum in my pussy, baby?” You panted, the coil in the pit of your stomach tightening again. “Make a mess in between my thighs? You’re fucking me so good, baby, shit! Come in me, please, please, please! Love your cock so much. Fuck, I’m gonna cum again, baby.”
Namjoon moaned, feeling you tighten around him, as you released for the third time tonight.
“Namjoon!” You whined, your orgasm not as powerful as the previous, but enough to have you clenching tightly around his cock to make him cum right after you. He pushed himself deep into your pussy, before you felt his hips stutter against your ass.
“Oh, fuck, yes! Y/N! I’m coming, baby girl.” He moaned, releasing string after string of hot, thick sperm, painting your pussy white.
Undoing the belt around your arms, he flung it to one side, before collapsing next to you, his cock still deep within you. With your new freedom, you pulled the vibrator out from underneath you, the pulsing now hurting your red, swollen clit. The butt plug was still turned on, making you twitch; the overstimulation being too much. Namjoon, still panting, reached over, and pulled it out of you, allowing your body to relax, finally not being assaulted with copious amounts of pleasure.
“Are you okay, sweetheart?” He asked, pushing your sweaty hair out of your face. You nodded, laying your head against his rapidly rising and falling chest. “You did so well, baby.”
You basked in the light that was his compliments, feeling your cheeks heat up at his words. You leaned up, kissing him softly, while he pulled his limp dick out of you. Wincing at the loss of him, he chuckled, before caressing your still reddened ass. He watched as his cum began to leak out of your entrance, the site almost enough to make him hard again. Without realising it, he ran two fingers around your messy entrance, making you twitch.
He gathered his cum from around your entrance before pushing it back into you, making you whine; the overstimulation being too much. Namjoon brought his fingers to your mouth, making you suck off his cum that coated his digits. His salty sperm coated your tongue, making you moan and swirl your tongue over his long fingers.
Seeing how much you enjoyed it, Namjoon chuckled. Pulling his fingers away from your lips, he replaced them with his own, kissing you gently. He pulled you into his chest, allowing you to cuddle after your intense fucking-session.
Massaging your ass, now feeling guilty for spanking you so hard, he kissed your forehead, seeing you already half asleep. “Did that take care of your bad day?”
You lifted your head off of his chest, confused. “What bad day?”

𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐌𝐞 𝐎𝐧𝐜𝐞 [𝟐]
Jude was not prepared for the incessant throbbing around her abdomen when she woke up the next morning. Her head hurt, memories from last night clouded by the horrible pain. And blood. There was so much blood. She couldn't remember what she had been wearing last night but it was not the oversized t-shirt that barely reached her thighs. The realisation dawned that she was in an unfamiliar room before Jude noticed the photoframe on the bedside table—a frame with her photo.
Cardan. She was in her former boss' house. In his bedroom.
Jude tried to sit upright, then bit back a whimper when the stitches pulled. Stitches. What the hell happened to her? She said out loud, still unsure if she was where she thought she was. "Um, Cardan? Someone here?" Her heart hammered inside her chest.
She wasn't prepared for what she saw. Her former boss had streaks of tears across his cheeks, eyes swollen and hair mussed. He had never looked worse, not even on the mornings when he woke up beside her in the apartment he had gifted her—the one she'd moved out of the moment they broke up. She tried not to think about it. Even after months, it still hurt as much.
"Jude, are you alright? Do you need something? Water? Can I get you water?" He looked around, panicked. He fumbled with the water jug, then spilled water over the table when he tried to pour it into a glass.
His hands were shaking.
Jude tried to reassure him. "Don't worry, I'm fine." The words didn't convince him, though he visibly calmed. "I just, what happened? I don't—I remember I called you but the stitches—you didn't call an ambulance, right?!"
"I didn't. I called Liliver." He handed her the glass of water along with some pills. "I was so scared, Jude."
Jude looked down in her lap in guilt. She shouldn't have called him. She had been the one to wash her hands off him when everyone at the office found out about their relationship. She had broken up and left the company, all because she couldn't hear them talk about how she had risen to the top because of the affair between them. "I'm so sorry," she said. She had no right to call him. "I won't have called unless—"
"You think that's your fault? Gods, Jude, I'm glad you did. I'm mad because you're risking your life. I thought you were done with that!" His voice rose loud enough that she flinched in surprise. He had never raised his voice before. Not on her, not on anyone.
She blinked against the tears pricking at the corner of her eyes. "I needed—"
"Money? Job? Jude, I could've helped. You know I could've helped." He eyed the space beside her with hesitation, then muttered a curse before sitting down there. His voice dropped into a whisper. "You scared me so bad. I didn't know what to do." He sounded tired. Defeated. She had never known Cardan Greenbriar to be either.
"I'm sorry." There was a lot she had to apologise for, least of all the last night.
Cardan nodded, rising from the bed. He ran a hand through his dark hair. "Right, I'll send someone with some breakfast. You're staying here until you can move around," he fixed her with a look when she tried to protest. "...take care, Jude." The words sounded an awful lot like a goodbye.
Jude nodded, even as she wished he won't leave.
──────✧❅✦❅✧──────
"Is Cardan home?" She asked Tatterfell.
The maid was kind to her but Jude just wanted to talk to Cardan, to apologise or to say something. Anything. He'd made himself scarce from what she knew. He hardly stayed at his apartment and even when he did, he didn't come to her room. Jude had started moving around a little two days ago but he'd refused to let her leave yet. She wasn't sure how long she could take living under the same roof with him without seeing his face.
Tatterfell looked at her. "He's otherwise occupied. Won't let anyone in." In the guest room. That's where he was.
"Take me there? Please?"
Tatterfell said, "I don't know who you are, miss, but he's strictly told me no one's allowed inside." Her tone softened at the hurt look on Jude's face. "He does that sometimes, coops up in his bedroom for days, works too much. He'll be fine in a week or so."
Jude wasn't having this. She tried again, "Look, if he doesn't let me in, we'll come back. But can we try?" She must have looked pitiful because the maid sighed, then agreed.
Jude rushed down the steps, despite the warnings. She slowed down only when the stitches pulled at her side and in no time, she was standing outside his door. Her hand curled in the air. Would he even let her in after she'd hurt him so much all those months ago? Did he hate her now? He didn't. She had to believe he won't hate her. He'd been worried for her after all.
"Cardan?" Jude knocked once. Her voice was small, quiet. She knocked again.
There was shuffling inside, then a muffled voice said, "Jude, is there something you need? Please call for Tatterfell, she'll help." He sounded exhausted.
"Tatterfell doesn't have what I need," she replied, knocking again.
There was an audible groan from inside before he opened the door to the guest room. She didn't know what to expect but a room full of files and files was not it. Jude must have looked as confused as she felt because Cardan explained, "I, ah, I was working. Turns out, my last assistant worked a lot harder than I thought. Without her, I'm doomed."
Jude quirked an eyebrow. "Is that a compliment or an offer?"
That defeated shrug again. "You tell me. If it were an offer, would you accept it?" She wouldn't. He had to know.
"I can't."
Cardan grabbed her hand as if she'd disappear into thin air if he didn't. "Jude, please? Come back. I know what happened. I'll fix that. We will—together." He brought her inside, then stumbled towards the dresser where his clothes lay discarded in a pile. A blue box sat beside the pile. Jude tried not to think about the implications when Cardan picked it up. "I was—I bought this a week before you—before we broke up. We'd have announced our engagement to the co-workers and—and you'd have become a co-owner with me. The paperwork was ready, Jude. I was sure. I'm still sure." Then he looked at her and opened the box, a beautiful ring gleaming inside. "...but are you?"
"This is insane. I don't—I wasn't dating you so we could be co-owners or something—" she was cut off.
"I'm not implying that, Jude! I know I love you. I know that if things hadn't happened as they did, this is the life we'd have had. This is the life we could have now—if you still want to." She did. Gods damn her, she did want this life. She didn't want to wake up in her bed, reaching for someone who wasn't there, didn't want to live knowing she had made the biggest mistake of her life in pushing him away.
But—"I'm scared I'll get hurt again and it will suck," she said.
Cardan cupped her cheeks with her hands, a featherlight touch at first. When Jude relaxed into it, he said, "I'm scared of that too. But you're worth that risk. What we had is worth it."
Silence fell in the room as he waited for an answer. Her next words would decide where they went from here. After all that she'd hurt him, Cardan was willing to risk his heart again. If he could find it in himself to give them a second chance, perhaps she could too.
"You're worth that risk too," she told him and smiled.
Cardan's smile was bright enough to rival the sun as he slipped the engagement ring onto her finger.

masterlist
word count: 5k
It was certainly not the first time we’d been parted. Indeed, it was almost more common for one or both of us to be jetting off to some new location than staying in our own flat. However, that fact did not, in any way, alleviate the pain and sorrow the pair of us experienced with each prolonged separation. In the almost four years since we met at that stupid party so much in our lives had changed - yet the biggest constant was the feelings Harry and I shared for one another.
That’s why I found myself tearing up more than usual this Wednesday night.
“I’ll call you every day.” Harry reassured, glancing up from his almost completely packed suitcase to my eyes as I sat on the other side of the bed from the object. I tried my best to give him a convincing smile, nodding softly. “Baby...” His tone seemed to send me over the edge that I’d quite frankly been teetering on for the last three days. He abandoned his packing, pushing the suitcase down to the end of the bed before crawling towards me. Within a second he pulled me against him, his lips pressing kisses to the top of my head as my cheek squished against his chest.
“I’m just gonna miss you, ‘s all.” I muttered into his jumper, my fingers clutching desperately to the material as if I could hold him against me forever instead of letting him go on tour.
“I know, lovie, I know. And I’m gonna miss you too, so much. But before you know it we’ll be together again!” His voice picked up a little towards the end. “You know, you’re gonna visit me in America, and we get two whole weeks together then, and then it’ll only be a little bit until I’m home again.”
“But then you’ll go again.”
“You’re pretty shit at taking comfort, have I ever told you that?” I giggled quietly as his fingers playfully prodded at my sides. I squirmed in his grasp in attempts to escape his attack.
“Just let me be sad!” I laughed, sitting between his legs when he finally released me. His eyes lingered, darting between mine and my lips. The silence that took over was one completely void of awkwardness. “I love you.” I almost whispered the words as I crawled up his body, swinging my right leg over his left, straddling his waist. His hands pushed up my thighs, curving around my waist as he pulled me forward into him again.
“I love you too, Sunflower.” I could feel his smile against my neck before I let out a little whine of annoyance.
“You know how much I hate it when you call me that.”
“Yeah, that’s why I do it.” I pulled back, hands on his chest as I inspected the smirk spread across his features.
“Arsehole.” I laughed, shaking my head.
“Yeah, but you love me.” His hands dropped from my waist, grasping my bum in a squeeze.
“Don’t know why.” I mumbled teasingly, glancing my eyes up to meet his as he let out a small ‘heeyyyyy’. I released another laugh, leaning forward to steal a quick peck from his lips. “I’m joking, my love. You know I love you because you’re the sexiest, funniest and all round best person in the world.” My lips ghosted over his, allowing me to detect the subtle darkening of his eyes as lust overtook him.
---------------------
“Are you sure you’ve got everything?” I asked for what was probably the fifth time in the last thirty minutes.
“Yes, woman, Christ.” Harry replied in fake exasperation.
“Alright, alright, I just don’t want you calling me, crying, because you didn’t bring enough knickers.” I smirked, stepping out of the apartment.
“Don’t wear knickers. Imma man.” He grumbled in return, delivering a playful slap to my bum before locking the door. “You don’t have to take me to the airport if you don’t want to, honey.”
“But I do want to.” I grinned, getting into the car as he loaded up the boot with his numerous bags. As he reached out for the passenger door’s handle, he gasped.
“Wait, hang on one sec, I forgot something.” He said, holding his finger up before jogging back to the door, unlocking it and disappearing inside before I could chastise him for his forgetfulness. Not two minutes had gone by before he reemerged, locking the door once more. To my surprise, though, his hands were just as empty as they had been when he left the car moments before. When he entered the car I shot him a questioning look. “What?”
“What did you forget?” I asked, pulling my seatbelt across my body and fastening it.
“Oh, nothing, realised I actually did have it already.” Harry said, his lips quivering slightly. In the last four years I now knew this to be a tell-tale sign that he was trying his utmost to keep the smirk that was fighting its way onto his face at bay. Of course I wanted to dig deeper, get a truthful answer from him, but I knew we were already running out of time to get to the airport on time for his flight.
“Okay... you weirdo.” I giggled, starting the car and backing out of the driveway.
---------------------
The lump in my throat was growing every second I watched the five boys (well all young men now) checking off their things with the tour manager.
“Alright, I think we’ve got everything. Let’s hit the road, again!” He spoke, quietly chuckling to himself as he put his clipboard away after a final chat with Zayn.
“It’s actually on the road again.” Louis sarcastically remarked, pulling his rucksack onto his shoulders before hugging his sister Lottie. Harry and I exchanged a look and laugh before he approached me, pulling me into a hug.
“I’ll call you everyday.” He repeated the words from last night into my hair as he squeezed me as hard as he could without hurting me.
“I love you so, so, so, so, so much!” I spoke, head nestled into his neck.
“I love you more, angel. I’ll see you soon, yeah? Keep my side of the bed warm for me.” He pulled away, eyes momentarily scanning over my face, noting the well of tears in my eyes I was refusing to release in front of him. His lips pressed to mine, and even though it was but a few seconds, the kiss we shared held so much passion and love I felt my heart race. Pulling away, we looked at each other once more before he dropped his arms from my body and retrieved his bags. “Bye, love.” Despite the wink he shot in my direction, I couldn’t help detecting the slight break in his voice now.
“Bye, baby.”
Before I knew it, the whole tour party of was gone and out of sight, just leaving us loved ones that had come to wave them goodbye.
“God, I still can’t believe it, every time they go.” Louis’ mum piped up, receiving a hum of agreement from the rest of us. “So proud of them.”
“Yes, so, so proud.” Liam’s mum replied.
---------------------
The silence that greeted me as I unlocked the door was no where near as comforting as the silence Harry and I shared the night previously. This silence was almost eerie, confirming that, yes, I was alone once more. I sniffled back the tears that I had finally allowed myself to shed in the car on the way home, wiping my eyes with the back of my sleeve.
Slowly, I made my way up stairs, pushing open the door to our bedroom. It seemed far less chaotic than it had been for the last couple of weeks now that it was relieved of Harry’s many bags. I missed the mess now; it had told me that he was still here. Without turning on the light, I trudged to the bed, flinging myself onto the duvet, laying like a starfish on the covers as I let out an exaggerated huff slash groan. I glanced up in the direction a small rattling noise came from. On the pillow was an object I couldn’t quite make out in the dim light of the room; it certainly hadn’t been there earlier when I left the room to take Harry to the airport. Maybe this was what he was being so secretive about then. Pulling myself up, I flicked on the lamp beside the bed, discovering a CD with a sticky note attached.
‘For when you miss me and may forget how much I love you, here are all the songs that remind me of you (I’d know, seeing as I wrote them about you ;))
All my love, H xxxxx’
Another wave of tears hit me as I stared at his scrawl across the pink paper. How could I miss him so much already? Shooting up from the bed, I clambered out of the room and into the office where the computer was. I dropped into the chair, fiddling with the CD before slotting it into the machine. My heart seemed to skip with anticipation, my eyes darting all over the screen as I waited for it to load. Finally the songs came onto the screen; I was surprised to see how many of them there were, but I couldn’t help the grin on my face at the first four.
---------------------
Stole My Heart
Under the lights tonight, you turned around And you stole my heart, with just one look When I saw your face, I fell in love Took a minute girl, to steal my heart tonight With just one look, yeah Been waiting for a girl like you
Harry’s PoV
“So remind me how you know this guy again?” I questioned, leaning forward to push my head between the driver’s and front passenger’s seat. Louis huffed out a breath, shaking his head in annoyance.
“He’s just a friend, mate. Does it really matter how I know him? It’s free alcohol. You should be bloody grateful seeing as you’re fresh out of the womb.” Niall snorted at Louis’ reply, earning a punch to the leg from me.
“No need to be snarky.” I muttered, watching as the car pulled up to a large house that already looked like it was breaking at the seams with too many people.
“He’s just butthurt that he and Caroline broke up. Mate, you were punching. It was gonna end at some point!” Zayn chimed in. The five of us hopped out the car, making our way up the steps and into the house.
“Best behaviour, everyone, Simon said we could do some good networking here. There might be some people here we could need.” Liam said, the four of us completely ignoring him as we pushed through the crowd. Almost immediately we lost Niall - no doubt already in search of some alcoholic beverage. I decided not to join him, knowing full well that Zayn was right. I’d never tell him that though! I was definitely feeling a little low after the short rendezvous with Caroline Flack came to a somewhat abrupt end, and if I went straight to the drink like Niall, it was probably not going to be pretty. Instead, I followed Zayn who was talking to a group of three that he already seemed to know.
After nearly half an hour though, the conversation was getting a little boring, and I was certainly struggling to keep up the façade of interest. I cleared my throat, gaining the attention of my peers. “Um, sorry, just gonna excuse myself, gonna get a drink.” I muttered.
“I’ll follow, be right back.” Zayn agreed, quickly following me. “Oh my god, did you hear them? How on earth can someone complain about not having enough rooms in a 7 room house for like twenty minutes?” He questioned, a laugh escaping his lips as we were out of earshot of the trio.
“I mean, if you fill half of them with your weed plantation it’s definitely going to affect the potential of the others, isn’t it?” I joked. “Now where the hell is kitchen?”
“I think,” Zayn spoke half the sentence, nodding his head in the direction in front of us. Together we continued pushing through the crowd of people that somehow seemed to have multiplied even in the short amount of time since our arrival. “Please don’t start growing a weed plantation in your house, Harold.” Zayn teased, finally entering the kitchen. “Ah the others are here.”
“Lads!” I heard Louis shout as we appeared. I didn’t answer Zayn’s joke because, leaning against the fridge was a girl. God Harry, that is not just ‘a girl’. I’d never seen anything that could even come close to her beauty. Just looking at her face I could feel my heart rate increase tenfold. Her brown hair was slightly waved, pushed back over one shoulder, accentuating her high cheekbones. She wasn’t wearing anything that was particularly noteworthy, but she made the simple outfit look like it was being modelled for the runway. Suddenly I noticed that I had yet to speak; that in fact, no one had said anything because Zayn had become a little shy with the presence of this stranger. I tried to adopt the most upbeat, unfazed tone.
“Hi!” As Liam introduced us I felt myself move forward towards her. I stuck out my hand. What the fuck am I doing? Who shakes hands at 17 - especially when they’ve just met the most beautiful woman in the entire universe?! Her hand slowly slid into mine; the softest, most delicate hands I’d ever felt - and that’s including my own mother who it seemed applied Cath Kidston hand moisturiser every waking moment. I thought quickly, moving down and placing a gentle kiss to the back of her hand. “Lovely to meet you, Y/N.” I smiled, making eye contact for the first time.
Wow.
Never in my life have someone’s eyes felt like they were looking straight into my soul. Her cheeks flushed a pink shade, causing mine to match.
“And you, Harry.” She returned, maintaining the eye contact.
Shit, Harry, this is deep. You can’t fall in love this quickly, can you?
When I got home that night, I couldn’t get her out of my mind. She clouded every thought, her touch still seeming to cause flames to run over my skin. As I sat on my bed, I grabbed the scrap of paper that was beside the bed from a piece of junk mail I’d opened this morning. Rummaging around I found a half blunt pencil, scribbling less than ten words onto the crumbled paper:
When I saw your face, I fell in love.
---------------------
They Don’t Know About Us
They don’t know about the things we do They don’t know about the I love you’s But I bet you if they only knew They would just be jealous of us They don’t know about the up all nights They don’t know I've waited all my life Just to find a love that feels this right Baby they don’t know about, they don’t know about us
It must have been my continuous sniffles that prevented me from hearing that the front door had opened and closed, allowing Harry back into the apartment. My arms encircled my shins, pulling my legs up close to my chest as I sat on the little bench by the window in our bedroom.
Things had just gotten too much as of late. With three new projects of mine coming out this year, with Harry working what felt like around the clock with the guys in the studio to produce another album, the press seemed to think it was their role to shit over everything. At every opportunity media outlets took it upon themselves to dig their way into our private lives we tried so hard to keep just that: private.
“Baby, what are you doing up here? I thought you had an interview on the phone at 6? Why are you in the dark?” All of Harry’s questions felt like a tonne of bricks, causing more tears to well up in my eyes, and eventually cascade down my cheeks. “Hey, hey, hey, what’s wrong? What are the tears for?” Not a second later he was by my side, kneeling down beside the bench, hands pulling on mine gently.
“I’ve had enough.” I cried, allowing him to pull my body around so he was kneeling now between my legs.
“Enough of what, my love?” His voice was soft, gentle, matching the feel of his caresses over my hands.
“I know we’re not s-s-supposed to r-read about ourselves in the n-news, but-” My hiccups became too much, completely cutting me off.
“Shhh, lovie, take a breath, yeah? Calm down, it’s okay. I’m here now.” The look in his eyes broke my heart; his pupils were swimming with concern and anxiety at finding me in this state.
“They were talking about how you’re really close with all of these women, like Cara and Caroline and all of that... And you know that picture that paps took of me like three weeks ago and I was crying because of something stupid on the phone outside of the set?” Harry nodded in confirmation, not wanting to cut me off in my flow. “Well according to them that was me crying about you cheating on me with all of these girls and how I felt trapped in this relationship and all that. They said I was calling someone to find another place to live for a bit or something. I know it sounds stupid, Harry, trust me, I know; because I know you’d never cheat on me, and I know they’re just you’re friends, but at the same time, this constant bombardment from the press is just so tiring! I just want to go outside and not be followed.” By this point I’d slowly sunk to the floor, tears continuing to flow freely from my eyes; but he was there to hold me. My head rested on his shoulder, nose pressed into his skin whilst his hands ran soothingly up and down my back.
“I know it’s hard, baby.” Harry spoke softly, his breath washing over the side of my face. “But it’s our life, yeah? We’ve just gotta live it the best way that we can and fuck them and what they think. They’ve got no idea what goes on behind closed doors; they have no idea how much we love each other; they’ve not got a clue what stupid stuff we talk about in the middle of the night when we can’t sleep. But trust me, I’ve waited too long for this to let them come between them. You’re the love of my life.” My heart fluttered at the end of his mini rant, a small smile playing on my lips.
“Really?” I croaked, lifting my head enough to catch his gaze. The previous expression that had evoked such sadness within me was now replaced by one that filled me with delight; he looked so in love, his eyes were shining in the darkness of the room, his lips only inches from mine.
“Yeah, of course. You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, baby. What we have... just feels... right. You know?” I nodded in agreement, leaning forward to press a kiss to his lips.
“I’m so in love with you, Harry.” I muttered.
“And I’m so in love with you.” He finished his declaration with my name.
The rest of the evening was quiet, peaceful; he sat beside me as I lay in the bath, his fingers intertwined with mine. It didn’t feel weird at all to be lying in front of him completely naked, he knew everything about me; every curve and bump of my body, every thought in my mind; everything.
“Wanna know something funny?” Harry asked gently. I nodded, swirling my free hand in the cooling water. “I was trying to write a song for you... well about you, all day and I was struggling so much,” He chuckled, looking down at our hands. “The boys were starting to take the piss, saying I wasn’t a real songwriter because I literally sat there for hours and didn’t write a single word. But in the fifteen minutes we’ve been here, I think I’ve got something.”
“Can I hear it?” I asked hopefully, sitting up a bit to lean my head on the side of the tub, mirroring the positioning of his.
“Yeah,” He cleared his throat a little, shaking his head as if he were about to belt it out, but in what must have been the softest I’d ever heard his voice he smoothly sung:
They don’t know I've waited all my life Just to find a love that feels this right Baby they don’t know about, they don’t know about us
---------------------
Strong
Think of how much love that's been wasted People always trying to escape it Move on to stop their heart breaking But there's nothing I'm running from You make me strong
“What are you even talking about, Harry?” My voice was hoarse, not from shouting (because that was something I refused to do), but from the hours and hours we’d been going at each other in this fight. “You’re taking this way out of context and trying to put words into my mouth!” Exasperation and frustration were clear in my words as my hands sat on my hips, sending Harry a slight glare as he stood on the other side of the living room.
“I don’t think I am, love,” The pet name in this context seemed a little sarcastic as his voice was definitely louder than usual, but not yet shouting. I think he’d exhausted himself an hour or so ago. “I think I’ve hit the nail bang on the head.”
“All I said was that I would appreciate more time with you; that’s all! What I didn’t say is that I don’t think you should be going out with your friends and reducing the amount of time you spend on tour.”
“That’s not something I can do, Y/N! I’m not in control of that! I can’t just go to management and say ‘oh yeah, my missus has got the hump, can we just cut out some of those dates?’“
“Harry, please!” Now that he was starting to get away with himself, clearly becoming more and more angry by the minute, I needed to clear the air. “That’s not something I’m asking from you.” I repeated, my voice cool, calm and collected. “I’m just asking you to consider spending some more of the time you have in England at home. You’ve been out nearly every night the last two weeks with various people-”
“I’ve always invited you to come too!”
“Harry please don’t interrupt me.” I begged.
“You’re being unreasonable.” It was clear to me now that he was definitely not prepared for an adult conversation, so I decided it was a good time for me to go upstairs and give him time to cool down.
“I can’t talk to you when you’re like this, I’m gonna leave you.” Before I’d even made it four metres to the stairs, Harry’s hand had grabbed my arm; I was about to say something about man-handling me when I caught his expression.
He looked broken, eyes filled with fear as his lips were parted. “Please don’t leave me.” His voice had absolutely no hint of anger anymore, just pure terror.
“Leave you? No, Harry, I meant leave you alone to calm down. I was just... going upstairs.” I trailed off, eyeing him in confusion. His hand let go of me, both palms cradling his temples.
“Fuck,” He breathed.
“Why would you think I’d leave you?” I asked, stepping closer to him as he started pacing around the room. When I received no answer I called out his name.
“That’s just how it happened to my parents.” His voice was so quiet I almost missed it. My heart sunk.
“Hey,” I walked over to him, allowing my arms to go around him as I rested my head against his chest. I could hear his heart thumping against his ribcage frantically. “That’s not what’s going on here.” I explained. “It’s just a little fight, yeah? Nothing we can’t come through.” His arms were tightly holding me against him, his cheek against the top of my head.
“I just thought you’d leave before something happened.”
“What do you mean?”
“I dunno, just to leave before I broke your heart or something.” He muttered, sounding almost like he was too scared to even say it.
“No, Harry. No.” I shook my head, tightening my arms around him. “I love you so much, too much almost.” I let out a little laugh. “I wouldn’t do that to either of us.”
“Would be a waste.”
“Yes, a waste.” I agreed, looking up at him. “I’m not running away from this... from us. I never want to do that.” I reassured.
Hours had past; apologies had been exchanged, promises made and kisses traded. I walked out of the kitchen, holding two glasses of wine to find him hunched over the journal I’d brought him for Christmas last year.
“What you writing, superstar?” I teased, sinking into the sofa beside him. Without words, he tilted the pages for me to look at his writing:
But there's nothing I'm running from You make me strong
---------------------
Night Changes
We're only getting older, baby And I've been thinking about it lately Does it ever drive you crazy Just how fast the night changes? Everything that you've ever dreamed of Disappearing when you wake up But there's nothing to be afraid of Even when the night changes, it will never change me and you
The night had been absolutely beautiful. Harry had arranged to take me out to a fancy restaurant for our fourth anniversary, wining and dining me like he was trying to make a good first impression on an initial date.
We walked the short distance from the restaurant back to our home, fingers laced together, the warmth in our bodies from the, perhaps too much, alcohol we’d had with dinner.
“Thank you for tonight, lovie.” I smiled up at him, his features somewhat shadowed by the darkness, but subtly illuminated by the various street lamps.
“It was my pleasure, baby. Thank you for the best four years of my entire life.” My skin flushed before I leaned up to press a soft kiss to his cheek.
“How is it that you can still make me blush and feel all gooey inside after all this time?” I wondered aloud. Harry shrugged, a smirk on his lips as he turned into our driveway.
“Just a god really, aren’t I?” He shot me a wink, letting go of my hand to unlock the door. I laughed, shaking my head at him.
“I can tell you one thing that’s never changed.” He raised his eyebrows at me in question, holding his arm up to keep the door open.
“After you,” He muttered, watching as I ducked under his arm and into the house.
“You’re still a cocky bastard.”
“I can assure you, madam, my parents were married.” I spun around, looking at him before we both burst into a fit of giggles.
“Stop it! You’re still 17 I swear!” I chortled, kicking my heels off by the door (a problem for me to sort tomorrow).
“Yeah, but you love it though, don’t you, sweetheart?” His lips were centimetres from my ear, hand squeezing my bum playfully.
“You’re such a flirt.” I countered, a wide grin on my face.
“Just for you.” He winked again, taking off his jacket and hanging it up before mirroring my actions with his own shoes.
“You know what else is for you?” I asked, attempting to adorn my best sultry tone.
“Hmm?” He hummed in return, eyes flickering over my body.
“All of this.” I muttered, gesturing to my body. “These,” I continued, my index finger playfully stroking down my breasts. Suddenly Harry was advancing on me; but I was faster. I let out a small shriek, spinning around and running up the stairs.
“Hey! Come back, you pest!” Harry shouted after me. I could hear his footsteps chasing after me. “You’re gonna pay for that!”
“Thank you again.” I muttered, lips slowly trailing over his naked torso, the sheets pulled up under my armpits to cover my own bare skin.
“I’d do anything for you.” He smiled, watching as my lips made their way from his pectorals, up his sternum, to his neck and eventually to his lips.
“You’re the love of my life.” I replied, laying my head against his skin after our kiss. We lay there in silence for a few minutes, just soaking in each other before I heard him softly humming a tune I’d not heard before.
“What’s that?” I asked curiously, propping myself up on my elbow.
“Just thought of it.” He replied, turning his head to look at me. “I wrote some lyrics the other day, and I think they’d go with that.” I looked at him in a way to encourage him to go on. He playfully rolled his eyes at me before clearing his throat, gently singing the words to the tune he’d just been humming:
But there's nothing to be afraid of Even when the night changes, it will never change me and you

Chapter Two: Secret Love Songs
Always Golden Masterlist
Harry was on Ashley’s mind, it’s all she could think about, the way Will was with him, the way Harry tried to defend himself without causing conflict. It was all she could think about, as she stood at the kitchen counter, stirring the sugar into her tea. “Morning gorgeous, sleep well?” Will asked, snaking his arms around her waist as he stood behind her.
“Fine, yeah,” She sighed, “I’ve got to get Daisy ready.” She told him, pulling away from his embrace and taking her mug of tea upstairs, after working on the breakfast show for almost three years, you would think she’d be used to the insanely early mornings, but suffice to say, she wasn’t. She got Daisy fed and dressed, before doing the same for herself, leaving the house to drop Daisy off at nursery on her way to work, without so much as a goodbye kiss for Will.
Once she had dropped Daisy off she hopped on her regular tube into work, having moved to North London at the beginning of the year, the journey was far more enjoyable. “Morning Ro,” Ashley smiled as she buzzed herself into the offices.
“Morning Ash, how are you on this fine morning?” He replied.
“Not bad, you seem very cheery.” Ashley said as the duo made their way into the studio.
“It’s a brilliant day, it’s Friday, Harry’s dropped a new song-”
“Has he?” Ashley asked, not aware of this brand new information.
“You do have twitter don’t you? The fans were going crazy about it this morning. We’re playing it on the show later, you can hear it then.” Roman explained.
“I had no idea, me and Will were binge watching netflix last night. Guess I’ll hear it first on the radio.”
“Good morning, you’re listening to Capital Breakfast with me Roman Kemp and Ash Hanson. We’ve got some great music to come your way this morning, with some shiny new releases too.” Roman said into his microphone.
“That’s right, for the first time on the Capital network this is the brand new single, Lights Up by Harry Styles.” Ashley sat back in awe, admiring how much Harry’s sound had matured, the song itself was a masterpiece and she was so proud of Harry for being so honest in his music again. She quickly pulled out her phone, hesitant to send him a message of congratulations, but in the end she did.
Harry lay anxiously in bed, staring at his phone screen as more and more notifications pinged onto his screen. He didn’t bother to open them until he saw Ash’s name pop up on his screen, he opened it to see a text from her, his heart now full of joy; H, it’s incredible, you never fail to amaze me, I’m so incredibly proud of you my rockstar, love A x
For the first time in almost two years, he felt at peace, for it seemed his Ash had forgiven him, she was ready to move on, as was he. In a haste he replied quickly; Do you want to come for dinner at mine later? I’ll cook our favourite, H x
Ashley wasn’t expecting him to reply so quickly, and she wasn’t expecting the reply she got either. For Harry to invite her over, when until August they hadn’t seen each other for two years it seemed like a big deal. She was meant to be going out with Will and Daisy, but they could do that any night. Sounds like a lovely idea, I’ll bring a bottle of something, shall we say 7pm? x
Ashley wasn’t really sure what she was doing, or why she had agreed to it, but she cared for Harry more than she cared for their animosity. She found herself looking back through old photos on her phone, pictures of Harry and Daisy, pictures of Ashley and Harry at various one direction shows, along with some of her favourite pictures of Harry she had taken over the years.
[insert pinterest picture]
“So this is a girl from work you're meeting up with tonight?” Will asked, sat on Ashley’s bed as she curled her hair. He was meant to be staying the night after their family trip out for dinner, but Ashley decided to put that on the back burner.
“Yeah, her boyfriend’s been cheating on her, she found out last night.” Ashley lied, somehow thinking up a complex web of lies was easier than explaining she was going for dinner with Harry.
“Couldn’t you just go another night?” Will asked, massaging her shoulders.
“She needs me now Will, they were together for almost seven years, and he goes and shags her best mate. She’s distraught, we can go out literally any other night of the week.” Ashley explained, topping up her lipstick, “How do I look?”
“Probably just as well you’re meeting up with this girl from work, if there were lads about I wouldn’t want them to so much as glance at you.” Will’s tone surprised her, it was almost territorial, she knew what Harry was like, he was a sucker for dishing out compliments, and Will would absolutely hate him for it.
“Well Holly is very much straight, so there’s no worries there.” Ashley assured him as she buckled up her heels, checking herself in the mirror, the sheer black shirt over a bralette with a leather mini skirt was a risk, but she felt confident, and it was only polite to make an effort for Harry. “I should head off now, I’ll just say bye to Dais.” Ashley made her way into the kitchen where Daisy was munching on fish fingers and potato faces. “Be good for Will my lovely, I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Have a good evening baby, love you.” Will whispered, kissing her out of nowhere.
“See you later.” Ashley smiled, before leaving her flat promptly.
In all the years Harry has lived in his massive Hampstead home, Ashley had never got used to the sheer size of it. She felt lucky that she could afford a two bedroom flat in Hackney on just her wages, but this was something else. She rang the buzzer and the gates swung open almost immediately, she made her way up the crazy long driveway, her heels crunching into the gravel. As she arrived at the door, Harry was already there waiting for her, dressed in a shirt, only buttoned halfway of course, with a pair of loose fit trousers, “Don’t you look lovely?” Harry smiled, greeting Ashley with open arms, it had felt like an eternity since Harry had embraced her, his arms made her feel safe in the same way they always had.
“You don’t look too bad yourself, Styles.” Ashley smiled up at him, “Oh I bought wine,” She continued, realising that they had slowly become lost in each other’s gaze.
“Oh right, thank you, come through to the kitchen.” Harry stuttered, taking the bottle from her and leading her into the dimly lit kitchen. “Do you want a glass then?” He asked, taking two from the cupboard.
“Oh of course! Feels like an eternity since I’ve properly let my hair down.” Ashley replied, kicking off the heels that were already giving her blisters.
“Is Will not the partying type then?” Harry asked, sliding her glass to her.
“Do we have to get into that again?” Ashley sighed, remembering the fallout on her Mum’s birthday.
“I’m sorry,” Harry held his hands up, “He’s definitely jealous though.” He smirked.
“What’s there to be jealous of?”
“Our inexplicable connection,” Harry smiled, “Anyway, this food isn’t going to make itself.”
“So what are we having?” Ashley asked.
“Your favourite.”
“Which is?” Ashley teased.
“My homemade roast dinner.”
“Is the right answer!” Ashley shouted.
“I don’t think I’m going to need to eat for another five years after that,” Ashley announced as the pair took a seat on Harry’s massive sofa.
“I do my best,” He smiled, “So how’s life been?”
“Busy, work’s chaotic as always, but I love it, me and Dais moved to Hackney at the beginning of the year, Lou and Lux literally live two doors down from us which Daisy loves. She started nursery last month, she loves it so much, she’s such a little performer, look at this.” Ashley pulled out her phone, turning it to Harry, it was a video of Daisy dancing to a One Direction song that was playing in the middle of a supermarket, she looked up to see Harry wiping his eyes, “Hey, why are you getting like that for H?”
“I was such an idiot, I let you down, both of you,” He sniffled, “I missed all the important bits, when she was born I promised you I’d protect you both, and what did I do? I ran away at the first sign of trouble.”
“I don’t blame you, at the time I was mad at you, but I could never stay angry at you, we both know that.” Ashley assured him, taking hold of his hand, “You will always be my best friend, till my very last breath, I promise you that.”
“What would Will have to say about that?” Harry asked.
“Why should his opinion matter? You’re part of my life, and that shouldn’t hinder our relationship in any way at all.” Ashley assured him.
“Do you love him?” Harry asked out of nowhere.
“Of course I do, he makes me happy, and he’s great with Daisy.” Ashley couldn’t help but feel as though she was lying to Harry, she cared for Will, of course she did, but even eight months into their relationship, she hadn’t said that he loved him off her own back.
“As long as you’re happy, I’m happy.”
Hours had passed and Harry and Ashley had been talking non-stop, about life when they were teenagers, life now and everything in between. “Do you want to hear some music from the new album?” Harry asked.
“Are you sure? I know how much of a perfectionist you can be.” Ashley replied.
“I wouldn’t be asking if I didn’t want you to hear it,” Harry led Ashley to his studio, a room in the house that Ashley had never really spent much time in. He pulled up some of the tracks, playing an upbeat one first, Harry sat back in his seat, trying to read Ashley’s emotions. The lyrics echoed through the room, “You’re so golden, I'm out of my head, and I know that you're scared, Because hearts get broken.”
“It’s beautiful H, all of it is.” Ashley told him, Harry’s expression was lifeless, like he didn’t want to have to tell her the truth about something, “Wait hang on, no, surely not,” Ashley was slowly piecing together the truth, “Please tell me that song is not about us.”
“I can’t lie to you Ash,” Harry whispered.
“No, don’t do this, things are alright between us now, this doesn’t need to happen.” Ashley muttered as she slowly stood up,
“You can’t tell me you don’t feel the same way Ash, you can’t tell me you haven’t thought about it too.” Harry sighed, following after her as she made her way from the studio into the hallway where she left her jacket and shoes.
“We can’t do this Harry, we can’t be those people.” Ashley told him forcefully.
“We could be though, deep down you know it too.” Harry replied softly.
“Harry, I know how this works, you find someone, its sunshine and roses for a couple of months and then one day you shatter their heart into a million pieces.” Ashley cried, tears streaming down her cheeks, “And I’m not going to let that be me.”
Ashley slept badly, the following morning she woke up to the sound of Daisy’s hysterical laughter coming from the kitchen, she threw on the first hoodie she could find and made her way downstairs to see Will and Daisy making cupcakes. “Morning you two,” She smiled, filling the kettle up with water.
“It’s the afternoon,” Will replied bluntly as he helped Daisy ice her cupcakes, “You got back late Ash, I was worried about you.”
“Holly needed me there, she got drunk and I put her to bed.” Ashley lied.
“Could’ve texted me though.” Will replied,
“My phone died.” Ashley explained, pouring herself a cup of tea.
“Yeah I realised, hence why I put it on charge,” He unplugged her phone and slid it forcefully across the counter to her, “Might want to check your messages, a certain someone was really concerned whether you got home last night.”
Ashley’s heart fell to the pit of her stomach, “Dais go play in your room for a bit please.”
“But I’m busy.” Daisy replied.
“Just go please poppet,” Ashley smiled, causing Daisy to hop off her chair and run upstairs to her room.
“So are you going to tell me why he wants to know you got home safely?” Will asked.
“I saw him last night.” Ashley whispered.
“So Holly doesn’t exist?”
“I didn’t tell you, because I knew it would make you angry,” Ashley explained.
“Well how do you think it makes me feel that you lied to me?”
“He invited me for dinner, it was just two old friends having a catch up, nothing more than that.” Ashley assured him.
“I don’t know whether I believe you.” Will huffed.
“Will I promise you, nothing happened, we ate dinner, talked about old memories, that's it.”
“Fine, if that's the truth, I believe you. Just don’t go doing stuff behind my back again.”

Going Home...?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DISCLAIMER : I wrote this story, forgetting that the Prefect/MC doesn’t wield magic. But after seeing the other characters overblot, I wonder what if the prefect themselves overblot? Just... take this HC as if the MC had magic, just that they unlocked this “magic” based of the stress they have been holding in because of a decision that have to make. Cliche, I guess, but I wanna write this for a bit of angst and writing this idea before I go cram homework and revision for the rest of the day.
Also, I have not seen the EN translations after Chapter 4, so I’m not too sure about how MC would interact with them, but I’ll try my best!
Hope you enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Screams of horror and panic filled Night Raven College as students of the many dorms ran around, scatter-brained. There were trees set ablaze, buildings collapsing at every corner students turned , and a storm swirling in once a clear blue sky. The staff members were trying to calm students in the chaos, evacuating as many as they could. However, a red-head managed to slip past, running around in a frenzy, heading straight to the courtyard.
“OI! Where’s the Prefect?! I can’t find them!” Ace panted under his breath as he saw Deuce and Jack looking around, lost and confused as well. They did not know either, till the other dorm leaders and members gathered. “Have you seen the prefect?! Someone just went into Overblot!” Kalim exclaimed.“Where could they be? They should have rushed in by now to help us out...” Trey questioned as well.
Before the group of students waved their magic pens to attack the overblotted student, a certain cat crawled in. But... he was crawling, panting and exhausted. Not panicking, not screaming, not jumping... he just needed some aid.
“The prefect... is who you’re looking at right now...” Grim muttered before passing out.
“Looking at right now...,” Riddle, confused by the statement, furrowed his eyebrows in frustration at Grim before a ball of fire came, dispersing the group in multiple directions. Followed by a mini hurricane and a large wave of water, Leona was groaning about how much his clothes were soiled before Floyd gasped in shock,
“Ebi-chan?”
Everyone just stood where there were for a good while, trying to comprehend what and how the ever friendly, witty and kind Ramshackle Head would be able to break out like this. Stress? Anxiety? What could be ?
“ I DON’T WANT TO LEAVE!” A distressed scream rang through the thunder as another lighting blot came shooting down.
--------------------------------
“Prefect, please take a sit. A year has passed since you arrived... How did you like it here?” Headmaster Crowley asked as he poured a glass of water in front of me.
“It has been great!”
Great? Great alone could not define what I have experienced in here. In Twisted Wonderland, in Night Raven College. Learning magic? A school based off movie villians? I won’t say this was what I dreamt off, but spending a year here has been so much better than what I have on the other side.
“You and your stupid fantasies! What are you, a child?”
Back at the other universe, I was bullied and mocked, for being a “child” - Liking Disney animated Movies, singing Love is an Open Door”by myself like a mad person, and to top it off, carrying Disney-themed merchandise anytime I could. Living in any animated movie would be a dream for me. People would laugh and give me the funny stares whenever I walked down the corridor. People would shove me into the toilets for being immature, looking down on me, thinking that “I won’t change from this immature, childish, naive state.”.... It definitely hurt, no joke there... So I usually head home, head lowered as my body sinks into the mattress of my bed.
As the bullying got worse, and my father started to work overtime, while my mother was working overseas, I have hit the bottom of bottom, probably deeper than the deep blue sea itself. I sometimes stare at the ceiling, wondering where I could find an Ursala - sign a contract in exchange to get away from this shit hole. Maybe a genie too - One : No more mockery, no more being shoved into a corner. Two : Just, living the perfect life of singing happily and conquering lands. and keep the last wish when I need it most. Letting my pillow soak up my tears, I whispered...
“I wish I could leave this behind...” before going back to wailing and drifting off into a slumber.
Little did I know that I woke up in a coffin, to be brought into Twisted Wonderland and its Night Raven college, a place inspired by Disney Villians. Even if Ace and Grim were a handful at the beginning, the rest of the year in the school has truly been a chaotic, memorable one. The friends I have made, the dorm leaders I have helped overcome their overblot, and the chaos I get tossed into, I would not trade them for the world. Who knew being a little twisted would be so good?
“Sorry if I’m being rude, but... why did you ask me to come up here to your office alone?”
“Yes, about that. I thought this piece of news would be more personal to you. It’s not bad news, I assure you. In fact, it is splendid news!”
“What could it be?” I asked, trying to figure out what he was going to ask.
“I found a way for you to get home! Back to your universe! Oh, the ever-kindhearted professor has spent countless hours building this mirror.” He stood up as he pulled a piece of red cloth to reveal a mirror. It was like the one at the dorm-sorting ceremony, but it showed my room, my school, my neighbourhood.
“Pretty neat, isn’t it-”
“No... No... I can’t...,” My gaze met the floor and my hands balled into fits. As my fingernails sunk into my skin, I could feel my heart pounding. That SAME feeling of fear and anger rose, and as I brought my knees up to my chest, I felt panic, wondering life back there.
I can’t bring my friends there, I can’t help in battles that don’t involve magic, I can’t think of another day spending in that hell hole ! I...I- I’m just nothing over there! Nothing but a walking target, anticipating another attack that I know I can’t avoid!
“Prefect... Do you want some time to think it over?” Ah crap, the Headmaster noticed. This should not concern him at all. It’s mine to deal with ,right? After all, he was the one to build this for me out of his good will...
“Yes, please. I’ll take my leave now. Thank you for your present...” I got up, and left. Grim pounced onto me the moment my foot stepped out of the office. “So? So? What was it about?” He demanded an answer before I replied with a small, bitter smile, “Oh, it’s nothing. Come on... I’m tired. Let’s head back to the dorm...”
I can’t let anyone know, until I feel it is right. I still have time to think about it, anyway...
“Hey! Wanna eat lunch later?”
“Sorry, I have extra revision to do...”
“Wanna go for a carpet ride later?”
“Ah, sorry. Not feeling it...”
Offer after offer, I had to turn them down. Grim would go instead as I needed more time to decide. Later on, Headmaster came in to tell me that the mirror could not hold for long. In a week or so, the portal may close.
Stay... or leave?
Stay in this wonderful world... or leave it behind?
Stay... or leave?
Stay in this wonderful world... or leave and go back and start anew?
Little did I know the last thing I saw before passing out was Grim backing away from me and the sound of a shattered mirror behind me.
.... “I don’t want to leave...”
--------------------------------
“.... They’re breathing... Get... Ramsha...dorm!”
“..I thought they could not... magic...”
“Magic asi... they are...WAIT-”
“Ow... my head..” I woke up, only to be greeted by the familiar sight of their bedroom ceiling, and a vase of flowers beside me.“What happe-”
“GUYS THE PREFECT IS AWAKE!” Three voices shouted, followed by a stampede, and ten people trying to squeeze through the door. Amused, I sat up with the remaining energy they have, and gave the biggest smile they could. After being bombarded by questions like “Are you alright?!” and being fed with heartwarming dishes, the tears of comfort and love came out one by one. I could not bring these back to the other side right?
“I have been keeping this away from you. But,... I am given the choice to go back to where I came from...” I trailed off before Jade cut me short and that everyone knows about everything. The mirror, my life back at the other side... everything.
“I’m sorry... I’m sorry that....I’m sorry that I- I hurt all of you! I’m sorry...” Words could not form the remorse, guilt I felt till I felt like I was being assaulted by a ball of familiar fluff, followed by my hands being held in comfort.
“You know you could have just told us right?” Leona rubbed it in , only to have everyone shoot death glares at him. “IT WAS HARD TO EXPLAIN ALRIGHT?! I CAN’T JUST... JUST ABANDON YOU ALL!” I choked between my words before Grim came off.
“He’s right. Without you, all of us won’t be here. You’re the one who helped us with our overblot, now let us help you...” Before I could refuse, Grim did not let me speak further. I could only mutter a ‘thank you’ before drowning myself in my tears again. “Well, who knew human emotion could be such a weakness?” “Spare me from your Book of Weaknesses, Azul.”
--------------------------------
“Sorry for bothering you Headmaster. But I would like to stay here in Night Raven College, even in Twisted Wonderland. Please!” I bowed, with my face to the ground, closing my eyes, hoping for the best. I just hope that he is not too angry with me, after all of the effort put into making the mirror for me to head home. Please...
“....Alright. After all, if another overblot incident were to take place, who else could we turn to?” He agreed! Thank God... He walked over to the mirror, casted a spell for it to be completely shut down. I am staying here, for now, till I’m ready to go back...

Orc Boyfriend (Torug) (Chapter 3/??)
I am so sorry it has taken me this long. Besides from Animal Crossing coming and eating all of my free time. My grandmother passed away earlier this month. needless to say it has been a chaotic couple of months. Thank you for your patience!
“Sooooo the hot piece of Orc ass, does he have a name?” Jhorrel bit into one of the eclairs Diana had grabbed from Elora. Fidgeting, Diana looked down at her hands and the small glass of wine in her hands.
“Seriously Diana, I’m hurt that Jhorrel found out before me. I’ve known you longer!” Brie was glaring at Diana, who was ladling our pasta onto plates. Brie looked down at the plate of pasta that Diana had handed her like it had stabbed her cat. “You’re not getting out of this Dee. Would it have killed you to pick up your damn phone and text me?”
“This just happened Brie! I’ve had maybe two days to compute! Holy hell.” Jhorrel scoffed at that and poured the decanted wine for himself. He hefted it to Brie who just waved it away. Picking up her pasta Diana stabbed her fork into the dish and started eating. Having Brie hold this against her stung. She thought out of the two that Brie would have cared the least.
“How do you know that he isn’t planning something? You know, like Darren before.” Diana looked up, but it was the plate dropping onto wood that caught her attention. Looking over towards the sound, she saw Jhorrel looking livid.
“I told you too, drop it.” He growled at Brie. Who sneered.
“It’s not that I don’t trust your judgment Jhorrel, but after what happened with that dick I have to be careful. Hell Diana should be careful.” That comment stung, Diana had been careful when it came to Darren. She had vetted him with other people that had known him and double checked with Jhorrel to see whether he had alternative motives. But in the end Darren had fooled even Jhorrel who had supernatural abilities when it came to finding liars.
“Again Brianna, like I’ve told you before he had good intentions in the beginning.”
“Oh yes, so good in fact that Diana almost wound up homeless. In fact she was homeless. For months!!” Diana could feel a headache coming on.
Being careful with her wine glass she placed it down on the counter and quietly moved to her room. As she closed the door behind her, she heard Jhorrel and Brie getting louder. She looked over to her window and had an idea. She grabbed a sweater and opened the window, looking at the fire escape she slipped on a pair of flats she had next to her bed. Then she went out the window.
As she climbed down from the second floor, Jhorrel and Brie really started yelling. Jumping the three feet from the ground Diana gave a small ouff. She dusted herself off and headed towards Elora's store. Diana wished she had closed the window. You could now hear the fight from the ground. She felt the concrete through her thin flats as she walked down the street. She thought about what Erica had told and how Banko had protected her.
Thinking back to Darren reminded her of how earnest Darren had been at first. The way he had just come in a swept diana off her feet. How charming it had been when she met his friends how he had insisted that even though his company was buying up plots in the neighborhood next door that he had no intentions to do the same to her “charming” neighborhood. Diana sighed, and looked around. She realized that she was a lot farther than where she had been aiming for. She walked a little farther to the cross street and read Oak Street. She had gone a mile from where she had been wanting to go. Reaching into her pocket she realized that she had left her phone on the counter with her glass of wine.
“Diana?” Looking up she saw Banko. “Out for a stroll?
“Ah hahahaha, funny story. My friends are having a little conversation. One that I decided they could have by themselves.” The Onikuma snorted, he shifted the bags he was holding. Diana’s stomach gave a loud growl. Diana gave a small smile.
“Didn’t even get to eat the pasta you made huh? Well follow me, I’ve got sushi and I may have bought enough to feed three of me.” He guffawed, and started walking away from Diana. She followed behind him. As they turned down Whistler avenue Diana’s stomach gave another growl. “Ha! Your stomach growls more than mine does when I’m hungry! Don’t worry we’re almost there.”
As they walked farther along Banko turned down a small street. Diana saw cute Victorian style houses along the street and realized that they had gone down one of the small residential streets that were in the neighborhood. Banko slowed down at a two story sort of run down Victorian. The paint was peeling on the walls and she could tell they were in the middle of redoing the roof. Weeds were in between the cracked concrete walkway and some overgrown rose bushes lined the front of the house.
“Erica inherited it from a relative, which was a blessing in disguise for us. After what happened in her old town I didn’t have a lot of money saved up. Torug wanted to help but I was too stubborn. So now with what little we have we’re repairing and remodeling! Starting with the roof! According to your Elora we gotta work quickly, the rainy season starts up soon.” Diana hadn’t realized she had been staring. Banko had a proud smile on his face.
“Oh yeah, next month or so. If you need help let me know. Jhorrel knows a lot of contractors who can help and probably give you a discount.” Diana was on autopilot and felt it. Jhorrel would actually know how to help better, and if any of the contractors heard about Erica and Bankos story, they’d work for free so long as the two of them paid for the stuff to fix the roof. As Diana’s thoughts glazed over the light flicked on the porch.
“Banko hurry your fat ass up- Oh. Diana I thought- uh hi.” Looking up Diana saw Torug and Erica who gave her a small wave. Diana gave a wave back to Erica, who smiled.
“Oh wow, I am so sorry for being late. But good news is I found a stray! Diana was wandering around a couple blocks back so I brought her along!” Erica shoved Torug to the side and walked up to Banko. Kissing him, she grabbed one of the bags and Diana’s hand dragging her into the house. Torug reached out to Diana but before he could touch her, Banko grabbed Torug by the shoulder. Diana tried to listen to what Banko would say to Torug but Erica dragged her into the house before Banko could say anything.
“What happened to girls night? You seemed to be looking forward to that?” Diana blinked a few times and looked at Erica. She was looking back with a concerned expression.
“Ah, I forgot how intense one of my friends can be, and she took offense at me not telling her about what's been going with Torug. I mean she was the one who helped me when Darren kicked me out of my store. Her and her mothers also helped me get back my store after my old landlord passed away.” hearing a thunk Diana looked over to Erica who had loudly placed a stack of plates on the counter.
“Wait what do you mean, ‘Darren kicked you out of your store?’ I thought you owned that building?” Diana sighed and shrugged.
“I didn’t always own the building I started out renting from an old Dryad named Rosalie, she was the sweetest woman that I knew next to Elora. I had been dating this real estate broker named Darren, and when Rosalie and I redid the lease Darren asked if I needed a cosign for it. It was only going to be for a year while I saved up, and with him signing on it was going to be even cheaper than if it had been just me signing.” Diana took a breath.
“Well it worked out for the first couple of months, then my mom passed away and I had to go home to help with that sort of thing. I came back a month later and Darren had changed the locks. He had already pushed forward his “Idea” of buying the land and turning it into a high rise. He had been talking to a few other building owners and purchased the building on the right side. He had already torn down the building and was trying to get the Dryad to sell to him.” Diana stopped to catch her breath, seeing how pale Erica had gone Diana grew worried. “Are you okay? You’re really pale.”
“I’m fine, just gotta kick something. Keep going, I think I have a feeling where this is going to go.” Erica pulled a glass down and filled it with water from the fridge. She sat down looking at Diana. Diana looked down.
“Anyway, he had donated most of my things because he ‘assumed I was going to stay at my mothers home’ and that I had ‘no need for some the stupid things’ I had. Thankfully Brie had gotten wind of what was going on. She got to the donation center and saved most of my sentimental things like the bedroom set from my great grandmother. Mom used to joke it was strong enough to hold two orcs. Brie wasn’t able to save everything though.” Diana gave a small sigh.
“ I still have no idea what happened to my great grandmother's dining room set, the family dish ware, and the family silver. Anyway after I came back I tried getting back into the apartment above my store at least. But like I said Darren had changed the locks without telling Rosalie. She called a locksmith out but Darren had called the police, he had quite a few friends on the force. They came with a cease and desist letter for Rosalie and then served me with papers. He was trying to get back the ‘back rent’ I ‘owed him’. He kept this up for three months, Jhorrel was horrified because he was the one who introduced us. Finally Rosalie gave up and behind Darren's back sold me the building. Brie contacted her mothers and they gave me the money as a gift. Jhorrel had Darren’s case against me thrown out with the help of his sister, and I served him his 30 day notice to get out. He tried to use his friends on the force to scare me, but with Jhorrel, his sister, Brie and her mothers. They didn’t get very far. Last I heard the police officers had been fired.”
“Wait who’s Jhorrel’s sister and Brie’s mother? Mothers?” Diana looked up at Erica who’s glass of water was hanging limply in her hand. Diana grabbed the glass and set it on the table.
“Jhorrel’s sister is Sararis, she goes by Sara. She's the chief federal prosecutor for the area. Brie’s a Valkyrie, her mom’s are head of the top two hospitals around here. I stayed in one of their townhouses when all of this was going down.” Erica was looking at Diana with her mouth open.
“Where is he now?” Diana jumped a bit knocking over the glass she turned to see Torug and Banko in the doorway. Torug moved forward with a look that scared Diana a little. Banko wasn’t looking much better. His fur was on end and he kept flexing his claws.
“He’s gone! and has been for at least a year. So it’s not a problem anymore. I promise!” Torug came closer and swept Diana into a hug. His arms wrapped around Diana and gave her a reassurance that Diana didn’t think she would get from a hug. She realized her feet weren’t touching the ground.
“God dammit that’s horrible. I can promise I’ll never treat you like that.” Diana felt Torugs chin on the top of her head. Diana leaned in just a little bit more and relaxed. Then her stomach growled.
“Dammit put her down, our sushi is just sitting here, and she sounds like she’s starving! Diana, have you called anyone yet?” Diana wiggled a little bit and poked Torug. He set her down, and she took a breath.
“Oh shoot, I forgot. Am I able to borrow someone’s phone? I left mine at home.” Erica reached into her pocket and handed Diana her phone. Diana dialed Jhorrel’s number, hit speaker phone and waited.
“Jhorrel Gusion, high end real estate and business leasings. May I take a message? I'm in the middle of a family emergency.” Diana snickered. She could hear Jhorrel panting.
“Jhorrel, have you been running? You never run.” Diana ripped the phone as far away from her as Jhorrel gave an inhumanly loud screech. Banko’s ear twitched backwards in pain and Torug winced. Carefully pulling the phone back, she caught the end of Jhorrel’s sentence.
“- everywhere! Sara’s on the phone with her security team!”
“NO! I’m fine! Sara doesn’t need to call her goon squad!” Diana started panicking. “I’m with Torug having dinner!” This stopped Jhorrel for a hot moment.
“Diana, I know it’s been a while and with everything going on you haven’t had time for yourself, but are you honestly going to jump into bed with an orc you’ve known for three days? If so, well okay then but honestly I would have helped you. It would have killed two birds with one stone actually.” Diana had gone redder than a tomato. She caught Erica’s eyes and Erica dashed into the other room to laugh.
“Jhorrel, you're on speaker phone.” The line went dead. Looking at the phone she saw Jhorrel had hung up. Looking up she saw Torug watching her. He gave her a smirk that made her go even redder.
“You know, I do have food at my place.” Torug smirk grew into a smile as Diana felt something. She wasn’t sure if it was nauseousness from lack of food or something else. She was about to reply when her stomach growled again. Banko slapped Torug on the back.
“We have enough food for six people Torug, let the girl eat here first before you eat her.” Torug shrugged and held out his hand. Diana, a little wary, took hold of it. As Torug led her out of the kitchen and into the other room, he turned around.
“If you’re dead set on us eating here then you can bring the food into the living room.” Banko gave a big laugh and shooed them away. Diana let herself be led into the living room. “Maybe we can have desert at my place”

Love is a Triangle
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - ?Part 5?
Pairing: Double B x Reader
Genre: Angst, slight fluff, smut suggestion
Warning: swearing, mentions of cheating
We decided to visit a little fair on their day off. It was a Thursday and the weather was very pleasing, not too hot and not too cold, just on point. Hanbin won two plushies for me and when Jiwon saw that he was so good at those shooting and hitting games, he got competitive and started to play too, which was extremely funny because I watched him get cocky because of our boyfriend and I won one more plushie. We stopped by a food truck on our way out of the marketplace. Hanbin ordered for all of us, and mine and his order were made first. We both got out of the line since there were a lot of people around the truck, and we waited for Jiwon. When he was about to come in our direction, a girl approached him and he widened his eyes and parted his lips, static. I couldn’t hear anything but I didn’t like the way she was smiling nor the way he was reacting to her words. I knew right away that wasn’t a fan. Hanbin saw it too and he widened his eyes just like Jiwon did when he saw her. I am right, they know her.
- Who is she? - I look at Hanbin.
- That’s...Myung-Hee. His first love. - His answer hit like a needle on my chest. Not just what he said, the way he said it concerned me the most. I’m worried since I’ve heard her name before from his mouth, when he told me how Jiwon had such a hard time on forgetting about her. We talked about brief moments on the ‘first love topic’ and everyone knows our first love is the one who stays in your heart forever, the one you can’t erase because it’s our first experience with love itself, which makes it so special. It’s normal but if the ending is bad...that stays, and stinks. Jiwon had that bad luck.
- What is she doing here? - I ask, innocently and with a firm, slightly threatening voice.
- Why don’t you ask him? - Hanbin smiles poorly at Jiwon finding our way back to us with a rushed pace.
- Hey. Here’s my food. - He smiles, raising his fish cake, and we start walking to go home.
I want to talk, even though I’m waiting for him to speak without making me ask. Hanbin and I create a suffocating silence and he finally breaks it. - I know you saw it. - He looks at us but we limit ourselves by watching our steps. - And I’m shocked like you. She’s...I don’t know why she’s here, I thought she was living in Australia. I didn’t even know what to say to her when I saw her.
- But, she did know what to say to you. - I insinuate.
- Yeah...
- What did she say? - Hanbin faces him.
- She asked how I was doing and she told me sometimes she checks on me when I’m trending on social media.
I nod. I feel so powerless. I know he’s going to think about her the rest of the week now. I know I’m going to, too. Why did she appear again? Why did she talk to him? Doesn’t she understand how much she hurt him back then? It’s unbelievable how we forget about someone and they come back to remind us.
Jiwon told us how she had to check that it was him before she approached him since “he changed so much” after six years. I mean, duh, what did she expect? Hanbin asked how he was feeling after seeing her and Jiwon answered he was nostalgic and surprised.
I had some questions myself, yet I kept quiet until we got home and had some privacy.
- Summer, you’ve been silent all the way home. Are you okay? - Jiwon anticipates.
- The reason you broke up… - I want to complete my sentence however he does it for me.
- Was because I loved her more than she loved me. I told you that.
- Yes, although...did she cheat on you with the other guy?
- The other guy she started dating after me?
- Yes.
- You know...I wasted two years of my life asking me all kinds of questions about our relationship. Like you right now, I didn’t understand what she said to me. When she was breaking up with me, she told me and I quote “...my love for you has faded. I can tell you still love me and I could always tell that you’ve always loved me more than I loved you. And I once told you that your expectations were too high to see the truth. I told you that I wasn’t who you saw but eventually you convinced me to love you, but that’s over now.” With this, you can go on various paths of thoughts. I thought she was cheating on me too, but maybe she wasn’t. She was right, I was blind on my love for her. I ignored all the times she could’ve supported me and she chose not to. I loved her with everything I had and it was clearly a mistake because she didn’t do the same for me.
- Ji… - I hug him and he chuckles.
- It’s okay, it happens. I was young, it’s water under the bridge.
- Is it? - Hanbin asks.
- Yes. I love you now, the past doesn’t matter. This made me find you guys and I’m grateful for that.
- I love you. You know that we love you equally, right? - I make sure he hears it.
- Yes, bae. I never doubted you. - That answer made me instantly in a better mood.
- Now that we’re done with this conversation, Chanwoo invited us to go bowling tonight. - Hanbin takes his phone out of the pocket. - What do I answer?
- Tell him no! - Jiwon startles me with the exclamation.
- Why? - I raise my eyebrow.
- This is our first day-off in months and he wants to hang out like we don’t see him everyday? - Jiwon rolls his eyes.
- Babe, that’s kind of harsh. Don’t you think? - Hanbin says, surprised by his comment. - Besides, it’s with Jinhwan and Junhoe, too.
- It’s not harsh, I’m just saying I’d prefer to be with my partners today.
- Okay, that’s fine. - I say. I give Hanbin a look to leave Jiwon alone for a little bit.
- Alright, I’ll tell him we can’t go. - Hanbin texts Chanwoo and goes to our bedroom.
He said he’s fine but he’s clearly affected by meeting her again. I don’t blame him, he knows that we’re here for him. I just wish she hadn’t shown up on our lives.
- I have to stop by the broadcasting station to do something. See you later.
- What? I thought we would spend the whole day together. - Jiwon turns to me.
- We still have many hours left when I get back. We can eat dinner and watch a movie after I finish it.
- Hm, okay, but give me a kiss before you go. - I lean at him on the couch to reach his lips. - Hanbin I’m gonna head out! - I scream. He comes running to the hall, now with his sweatpants instead of his jeans.
- What? You’re leaving?
- I need to do some work, I’ll be back before dinner.
- No… - He says lowly.
- Bye baby. - I kiss him and get out.
I choose to drive myself to work instead of calling our driver. It will take less time and I just want to finish it as soon as possible.
Fortunately I had to do this, because after I saw her, she’s the only thing in my mind and I have to distract myself, otherwise I’ll go crazy. The way this is affecting Jiwon is worrying me: Answering without thinking and then being clingy with us. It’s like he’s frustrated with others but trying to compensate it with giving us attention. It’s probably his manner to tell us we have nothing to worry about and that he loves us so we don’t need to be jealous. It won’t work, but at least it’s kind of cute to see how he cares about our feelings. He’s so selfless sometimes…
I finish everything in time for dinner. When I get home, Jiwon is cooking and Hanbin is setting the table.
- Welcome home! - They greet me.
- It smells good. - I direct myself to the kitchen.
- It’s done, let’s eat. - Jiwon turns the stove off and takes the two pans to the table.
- Did you do a broadcast today? We didn’t turn the radio on. - Hanbin grabs a full spoon of kimchi rice.
- You know I don’t talk in them, I just prepare the songs.
- I know, but I like to see everything that you do.
- You’re so lame sometimes. - I laugh.
- I’m in love. - He’s right. Hanbin’s first loves are me and Jiwon. He says things like these because he never said it to someone before, he never experienced this, it’s a fresh love, a new emotion to him. Sometimes that scares me.
The rest of the week passes by smoothly. iKON is preparing for their comeback and I’m working harder since a lot of people on my job are on vacation so I have to broadcast full night sessions because no one will be there to entertain the listeners with conversation.
I’m grabbing my coffee after work, which means it’s 6:45 pm. I stop by a newsstand to see if it has the monthly magazine that I read yet, since it’s the beginning of the month, but instead, I read something that catches me by surprise. I have to check it three times before I believe it. I look at the picture, yet my heart is telling me it’s not true. As soon as I notice the owner of the place is about to recognize me, I cover my face and walk away in a fast pace.
9:43 am
- Bobby, you have to be careful. I’m warning you, I don’t want something like this to happen again. Don’t make yourself frowned upon, you’re a good guy. - The YG CEO says.
- Yes, I’m sorry, sir. I won’t. - Jiwon leaves the office and goes back to the room where the iKon members are working at, which is chaotic with loud whispers and hand gestures:
“I don’t know how he thought he wouldn’t get caught.”
Jiwon sees Jinhwan doing a facepalm.
“Shut up now, he’s coming!”
As soon as he enters, the chaos turns to a tense and awkward silence.
When Jiwon looks at Hanbin, he has a death glare on his face that Jiwon only sees when Hanbin is super annoyed. That’s how he knows he messed up. However, he composes himself together. - Okay, let’s get to work. - He joins his hands together and the group prepares themselves.
Donghyuk plays the song so they can practice. The movements are slow at the beginning and there’s no trouble until the song grows and Hanbin goes in front of the mirror to watch them dance.
- Junhoe, keep going. - He says, and after that notices Jiwon isn’t doing it right. - Jiwon, slow down. - He does as told, but then he goes off beat again and his movements don’t match with the rest of the group. - Jiwon. - He calls him out once more.
He sighs and tries again.
- Jiwon, I told you to slow down, can’t you hear the rhythm? - Hanbin’s annoyed.
- I’m sorry. - He apologizes, staring at his feet.
- Do you want to play it again? - Junhoe asks.
- Yes please. - They do and Jiwon is out of focus once again. It’s understandable since he was just scolded at, but Hanbin loses his patience. - I know you’re not listening to the song. Can you try to focus? We’re having trouble because of you.
- I can’t. - Jiwon is static and frustrated.
- You can, we’ve practiced this dance a million times.
- Should I stop playing it? - The song keeps playing and Junhoe sees everyone stopped because of them two.
- No, let’s continue, Jiwon just do it again. - Hanbin seems careless.
- I told you I can’t right now. Please listen to me. - Jiwon’s sad voice is getting strict.
- Guys, maybe we should come back later. - Jinhwan realizes the fight is becoming personal and wants to step back.
- You can’t but you have to, we’re working. - Hanbin keeps his figure.
- Please let me talk to you first.
- We’re practicing, we’re group mates right now, this is not the place to talk, we’ll talk at home. - Hanbin reminds him of their situation. - You’ve been keeping this secret since last week, can’t you wait a little longer? - Hanbin starts to get worked up.
- Look Hanbin, I’m sorry! - He gets closer to him and the boys watch them quietly. - I’m sorry, alright? - He says, loud.
- We should go, come on. - Yunhyeong whispers and they discreetly leave the room.
- Why didn’t you tell us you were having lunch with her? - Hanbin shoots.
- I...didn’t want you to be worried. I knew you would be like this. I knew it!
- Of course I would react like this, she’s your ex! Worse, she’s your first love. You know what that means and I know it too, I’m feeling it right now! - Hanbin yells. - Just tell me what were you thinking when you didn’t tell us you were meeting her again. Tell me how could you make me find out this way. - Hanbin rambles. - I knew something was up yesterday! I knew it! You avoided me and looked the other way all morning and when I asked where you were when lunch time came, nobody knew where you were! They thought you were with Donghyuk but then he appeared so I thought “oh, maybe he forgot something at home”. - Hanbin looks him in the eyes waiting for a regretful answer.
- I didn’t know you were going to find out this way, I didn’t see any paparazzi. I was going to tell you…- Jiwon’s calm and failing voice is irritating Hanbin.
- You were going to tell me when? These people are everywhere so these things happen! They want society to see our flaws! Oh God, Jiwon. - Hanbin starts walking back and forth. - Do you know what I thought this morning when I heard this? I didn’t believe it, I didn’t believe someone could be that dumb, seriously, Donghyuk had to show me the picture so I could see you two were really together. You know you’re on the papers, right? Social media too. I guess you know that, considering the CEO talked to you. - Hanbin looks at him. - Jesus, you realize Summer probably saw it too? She works with the media, Jiwon. On the fucking radio. And if she didn’t see it yet, she will.
- I know...do you think she really saw it? - Jiwon’s guilt is growing and his face is sadder. - She will think I cheated on her...and on you… - Hanbin covers his face, concerned. Jiwon sighs and starts crying. - What do I do…? - Hanbin subtly looks at him.
- Babe you can still call her. Maybe she didn’t see it, I mean, it came to us first because it’s about you. It’s YG’s business.
- But it’s everywhere, like you said, if she didn’t see it, she will. Besides, I don’t want to do this over the phone. - Jiwon runs his fingers through his hair. - Oh God. - He gets up, wondering around, lost.
Someone of the staff knocks on the door to warn them to continue the schedule. Jiwon wipes his tears off.
- We’ll talk better at home. - Hanbin grabs Jiwon’s shoulder.
7:03 pm
I get home, alone, devastated by the news I kept overthinking on the car. The moment I drop my keys in the little plate, I let my body sink in the couch and I wait for them. I turn the TV on but I don’t pay attention to even what channel I’m watching. I limit on calming myself down so when they get here, I don’t seem too upset since I want to understand what Jiwon has to say. About an hour and a few minutes later, I hear the door open and the tinkling of the keys along with some whispers. They get to the living room and I welcome them, getting up off the couch.
- How was your day, baby? - They give me a kiss on a cheek.
- Good. - I answer. - How was yours?
- Wait, you don’t want to specify what you did? - Jiwon says, slightly nervous.
- No, it was a normal day. - I fake my answer. - How was your day?
Hanbin gives Jiwon a look so he can go ahead and tell me. - We...worked! - Jiwon smiles.
- Oh. - I fake a smile.
- Yeah...but Summer, I have to tell you something. - He gulps and takes my hand to sit us down. - Last week, when I saw Myung-Hee, she later on Friday asked me to have lunch with her yesterday...so I did. I just wanted to know how she was doing and maybe be in peace with her on my head. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you guys, I clearly paid for it this morning. Everyone is upset at me on the company and they’re right, I wasn’t careful and I didn’t think.
- “Be in peace with her” ? - Hanbin whispers in an irritated voice.
- I know. You didn’t. - They look at me, confused. - I know everything. - I nod. - I read it on a magazine after work. I didn’t know till I got my coffee. I know what you’re thinking, I don’t usually drink coffee at that time but today I did, and now I wish I didn’t. It’s funny how things work.
- Summer, I’m sorry. I feel so bad, are you upset? - His concerned face surfaces.
- I’m upset you hid this from us. How could you? You lied to us, Jiwon. Let me ask you, if it wasn’t out by the paparazzis, were you going to tell us at all?
- I was. Yesterday. - He looks away.
- Oh really? Because I don’t recall you telling me this yesterday.
- I… - He stutters. - Hanbin was tired and when we got home I couldn’t just…
- So you waited for the magazines to do it for you? - I pop a senseless question.
- I didn’t know there were magazines in the first place!
- Oh then next time, when you meet her again, make sure, yeah? - I cross my arms and I get up, looking to the other side of the room.
- Baby… - Jiwon reaches for me and tries to hug me but I push him away. - I’m not going to meet her again. - He grabs my arms and looks at me.
- Like I could believe you after you lied. - I look away.
- He’s not. - Hanbin finally breaks his silence.
- How do you know? Why are you so quiet? - I start shooting questions against him. - You knew about this, didn’t you? - Hanbin frowns by my question. - You boys always exclude me from everything. Just because I’m not with you all day like you two are.
- Summer, you know that’s not true! And I didn’t know! I found out when the staff asked how I was doing after “the Bobby thing”. I was clueless. I felt exactly like you did but it was this morning! You have to understand I had all day to think about this.
I feel my eyes get watery and it’s not long until tears start running down my cheeks. He’s right, my feelings are more fresh, my anger is building up and I’m being jealous for every little thing I can find.
- Baby. - Jiwon calls me, worried and regretful.
- I’m sorry, Bin. - I wipe my tears. - It was probably harder for you. - I recognize my mistake to judge him. - Could you work today at all? Everyone was probably asking you all sorts of questions or giving you looks. - I get concerned.
- Yes, they were. - Jiwon watches us talk. - But I had to pretend everything was okay so we could keep the schedule going. I admit in the morning we fought, but we’re talking better here with you at home.
- Babes, listen to me. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to cause you trouble.
- Jiwon you have to understand you didn’t put just you at risk. You put you, me, Summer and iKON. - He enumerates the amount of people with his fingers. - You saw how difficult it was to practice today. I know I said this already but you were so dumb.
- I know. I apologized to the CEO.
- Irresponsible. - He continues. - Just because of her. What did you get from this lunch, besides problems, anyway?
- Yes, what was that “be in peace with her in my head”? - I come back to this. - You assured to us last week that the past didn’t matter, so why did you say this earlier?
- I just wanted to know if I could see her as a friend and not someone who broke my heart for the first time. I know I said the past doesn’t matter, and it doesn’t, but sometimes she comes to my mind and I feel insecure. I feel like the 16 year-old boy that met a pretty girl and fell in love with her, even though she didn’t fell for him.
Hanbin and I stay quiet for moment to take in what we heard.
- Ji, you know you grew up. And you know we love you.
- You’re not a boy. - Hanbin follows my sentences. - You are a wonderful man. I know this because we grew a lot together, I saw you become this confident and handsome person. Don’t make yourself think you’re the same as you were when you met her. You changed, for the best. Forget her. Forget the 16 year-old boy. Trust yourself now, and trust us. Trust that we love you and that you love us, that’s all that matters, nothing else.
Jiwon smiles by Hanbin’s beautiful words. - I’m sorry. I will say it until you both forgive me. I promise I won’t lie to you ever again even if I have the tendency to do it, I won’t hide things from you. I fucked up but I learned my lesson. I hate to see you mad at me.
I pout. - Alright, I forgive you.
Jiwon opens his arms for a hug, hoping we can accept it.
- Me too. - Hanbin hugs him and I join in.
- I hate it when you don’t tell me stuff. - I say, with one of my cheeks buried on Hanbin’s back, making my voice sound more innocent and cute.
- I’m sorry, I didn’t want to make you feel left out. Ever. I love you so much. - Jiwon gives me a kiss on the cheek. - I won’t embarrass you like that again either, Bin. I’m going to apologize to the members tomorrow for delaying our practice. - He sighs. - I feel like a weight just lifted off my shoulders, thank you for forgiving me.
- Okay Jiwon, it’s forgotten, let’s just move on and relax and go to bed.
- You’re already sleepy? - Jiwon asks, suspicious.
- No. - I give him a smile.
Hanbin looks at Jiwon, takes off his shirt and goes after me, walking to our bedroom and I can hear Jiwon rushing himself to catch us before we start.

I’m suuuper sorry to bother you but I really love your 13/river fics and I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind writing me a super fluffy thing. I have a really shitty week and i just came out to my apparently super homophobic family and could do with a little fluff 💖
Dearest Anon, I’m so sorry you’re having a tough time, please, if you’d like to talk just drop me a message! In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the fluffy short. I just went with the first thing that came to my mind so I hope you like it! I will be writing something else for you because you have also inadvertently given me an idea for my next bigger project! I will just have to write one last chapter for my WIP... else I’ll have a lot of unhappy readers. Mustn’t get distracted by the new shiny thing lol!!
Anyway, hope you like this!

River took a sip of her tea and rubbed her tired eyes. It was getting late and she was developing one hell of a headache. Teaching had sounded like such a nice idea at the time. No-one had told her about how tedious and infuriating essay marking was. It took all of her self control not to rip up the essay she had just finished grading. She growled to herself and leant back in her office chair. She had probably reached her limit for today, it was about time she replaced her tea with wine and called it a night. Since taking up teaching at Luna she had been living on campus. It hardly made sense to rent a house when she spent most of her time on campus or away on an expedition somewhere. The real estate market on the moon was hell anyway. It didn’t take her long to get to her apartment. It was a decent size and private so as far as university accommodation goes it was, a real treat.
She noticed that something was wrong the moment she turned onto the corridor to her apartment. Usually, it was dead quiet around here this time of night but there was the distinct sound of banging and crashing up ahead. The next clue was the odd smell of something burning. The final giveaway was the fact that her door was slightly ajar as she went up to it. River - being River - was obviously prepared for all sorts of situations and happened to carry a gun in her briefcase. Just in case. So she armed herself and slowly pushed the door open. What she found was chaos, there was smoke everywhere. The noise was definitely coming from the kitchen, as was the smoke. She couldn't help but wonder if she had left the stove on but then she remembered she had never even used it. She lived on wine and take away or simply went out for dinner a lot. She snuck around the corner and lowered her gun, judging the situation to be less dangerous than anticipated.
What she found was a petite blonde huffing and puffing furiously whisking something on the stove that did not look appetising at all. She was trying to deal with several pans at the same time that all threatened to boil over or catch fire. There were several smoking pots in the sink and all sorts of stuff covering the kitchen sides and floor.
“Care to explain what you’re doing to my kitchen?“ River couldn’t help but sound amused. She knew she should be taking the situation more seriously, a stranger had broken into her flat, but the scene before her was just too ridiculous to describe. The woman spun around in shock, she hadn’t noticed her coming in.
“You’re early!“ She exclaimed.
“Early?“ River raised her eyebrows, that was not the response she had expected.
“You should have been at least another half hour with all those essays.“
“I finished early, I couldn’t take any more of the stupid.“ River replied not even sure why she was answering her. “Mind out for your…“ She started saying when she noticed the other woman had gotten her coat stuck under a pan and it was catching fire.
“Oh no, not my new coat!!“ The woman exclaimed and shrugged it off and threw it on the floor to stamp out the flames. In that moment, the smoke all around the room overwhelmed the fire alarm system and it started drowning the kitchen in water, soaking both women along with putting the cooking crisis to a stop.
“You have got to be kidding me.“ River groaned in annoyance, as if her day hadn't been bad enough. “What are you even doing?“ She asked when the fire suppression system stopped spraying them at last.
“Cooking, I was gonna surprise you with dinner but you know, I never cook so…“ The blonde gave an awkward smile while River just shook her impressive head of hair like a wet dog. River frowned, she felt like she was missing something and it was staring her right in the face. Who was this woman? Why was she looking at her like they had known each other forever, why had she just walked into her flat and was going to make dinner.
“You don’t say…“ River eyed the mess.
“Admittedly, maybe I’m not the domestic goddess I’d imagined I might be. Still getting to know myself. Worth a shot.“ River just stared at her, the answer was right there but just out of reach. She was still getting to know herself. It couldn’t be… could it? But why not? Probably just wishful thinking… or was it? The odd fashion sense, the chaotic energy. “Surprise sweetie, I’m home.“ The blonde grinned amused at seeing River’s confusion.
“No.“ River exclaimed.
“Yes.“ The Doctor grinned at her wife.
“Shut up.“
“Okay, rude.“
“I mean… wow.“ River looked her over not quite believing it.
“You like it?“ The Doctor asked giving a twirl.
“I mean, I’ve only seen the face.“ River smirked. With that, the Doctor was fed up of talking, she crossed the kitchen in seconds and jumped into her wive’s arms. River spun her around and held her close. The Doctor buried her face in her neck, her wet hair tickling her nose, River held her up with ease.
“I’ve missed you so much.“ The Doctor mumbled into her hair.
“And I you, my love.“ River replied softy and walked them over to the kitchen side. Her wife was light but she wasn’t going to hold her up forever so she sat her down on the kitchen surface where there was space. River stepped in between her legs and took her face in her hands. She studied her features and looked into her eyes, they were older than she had ever seen them.
“Is it a bit weird for you?“ The Doctor asked feeling a bit nervous when River just looked at her and didn’t say anything.
“No…“ River smiled a little. “That’s certainly not the word I’d use…“ She leaned forward and pressed her lips to hers in a soft kiss. The Doctor smiled against her lips feeling a sense of relief, she hadn’t even realised she had been worried right until this moment. She realised it was silly now. She leaned into her and River pulled her a little closer as they kissed. “I do have one concern…“
“What’s that?“ The Doctor asked feeling a wave of concern.
“I’m worried you will catch a cold if you stay in these wet clothes.“ River smirked pulling her braces down and the Doctor mouthed a silent “Oh“ raising her eyebrows. “You could catch your death.“ River winked and pushed her hands under her t-shirt.
“Well, that would be unfortunate. I’ve only just regenerated.“ The Doctor chuckled blushing a little as River pulled her shirt off.
“And what a fine regeneration it is, too.“ River complimented brushing her fingertips down her sternum to her flat stomach to the waistband of her trousers. The Doctor bit her bottom lip, instinctively moving her hips forward, being a woman was different in many ways she hadn’t even thought about initially. So this was yet another exciting lesson as she decided to just trusted her body and her instincts. “Are you travelling by yourself Doctor? You know I don’t like it when you’re alone…“ River mused as she kissed the side of her neck.
“No I’ve got my Fam…“ The Doctor answered arching her neck a little.
“Your Fam?“ River repeated in amusement.
“Ryan, Yaz and Graham, you’d like them.“
“What did you tell them you’d be doing?“ River smirked as she unbuttoned her wife’s trousers.
“I may have sent them twelve hours into the future…“ The Doctor confessed with a little laugh.
“Doctor!“ River exclaimed in pretend shock giving her thigh a little slap.
“What? I wanted some alone time with my wife.“ The Doctor retorted with a cheeky smile.
“So we’ve got twelve hours?“ River confirmed in a sultry tone.
“Got all night.“ The Doctor nodded as she felt her heart beats quicken.
“Good.“ River grinned and lifted her off the side with great enthusiasm carrying her out of the kitchen towards the bedroom. “You do realise you’ll be cleaning all that up.“ She commented as they left the kitchen behind.
“I figured as much.“ The Doctor laughed.

Little Talks (fanfic)
While the intention tonight was to (as usual) write a very Lydia centric fanfic I found myself writing more about Charles.
No trigger warnings for this fic, while it is a little sad it is really fluffy.
___________________________________________________________
The weekend’s in the Deetz-Maitland household had become quite chaotic since Lydia started back at school. All the shenanigans that she and Beetlejuice usually got into during the week were now being concentrated into only two days, which equaled a lot of headaches for the more quiet residents in the house. They all secretly loved it though, just seeing Lydia and BJ getting along and being happy. Most of their pranks were harmless as well, though every now and again something in the house would be mysteriously broken with both the culprits having a guilty look on their faces.
Charles was in the midst of fixing up their last disaster which resulted in the side room having a suspiciously Lydia-shaped hole in the thin walls along with her having some incriminating scrapes and bruises that she denies is from breaking the wall when BJ dared her to try and walk through the walls while he was using possessing her. Needless to say, the idea only partially worked but the issue was that Lydia was still solid and simply broke the wall when she ran into it with full force. While he was finishing up the last of sealing the plaster Charles looked around at his handiwork, remembering the old days back in New York when he and Emily were fixing up their old townhouse when Lydia was still small. They didn’t have much back then, he hadn’t gotten the position he had now until Lydia was a little bit older, but they were happy back then, making do with what they had. Emily always reminding Charles that it wasn’t about the things they owned, but the memories Lydia was going to make.
He went back up into his office after he finished, flipping through old family photo albums while before Lydia got back from school. His fingers lingering on the pages, not wanting to turn them and have to snap out of the memories he was reliving. Sometimes he liked to go through the books chronologically and watch Lydia grow up, other times he would pick one at random and just flip through the pages never quite knowing what he was going to get. Emily was the one who always wanted the pictures, he had never been a big fan of them or gotten into making the albums but he was grateful that they existed. The book he was looking through at the time was one that he hadn’t seen for a while, one of the really early ones that Emily went into so much effort to make when Lydia was just a baby, her blonde curls lighting up every single page. An off-colored copy of her birth certificate taped to the inside cover listing her full name, he made a mental note to keep that book out of BJ’s reach, knowing that he would tease Lydia mercilessly if he knew what her middle names were.
He was about halfway through the second book, where Lydia was about three years old when he found a photo he couldn’t stop staring at. There was something about it that made him pause. It was nothing out of the ordinary, from what he remembered that day all those years ago Lydia was playing in the living room with Emily, her stuffed animals all lined up for some reason on the pale blue carpet. Emily laughing and begging Charles to get the camera and take a picture. Most of the stuffed animals in the photo were probably long gone, a phase of her life that she had grown out of, some were maybe still packed away in a box somewhere or donated to a toy drive because she didn’t need them anymore. His eye caught the one she was holding in her hands, a white and grey stuffed owl that even at the time had obvious wear and tear from being played and cuddle with so much. Artie, he thought the name was. He sat the book down on his desk and walked down to the basement where some of the less important boxes from moving in where still stashed.
It was a long shot, he didn’t remember packing it but then again it was probably packed away years ago and he brought every box over from New York to Connecticut. After about twenty minutes of sifting through cardboard boxes with faded labels, he found marked “Lydia’s Toys.” Most of the contents were strange toys that had accumulated over the years including some that he was surprised still made the same annoying noises even after years of being packed away in a box and gathering dust. Others were stuffed animals with matted down fur, dolls with marker scribbles on them or bandaids from her playing doctor. Finally tucked near the bottom of the box he pulled out the dingy owl. He held it in his hands for a while, looking over all the features remembering a young Lydia carrying it around with her everywhere even on the Subway where Charles was paranoid she would lose it and have a WWIII level meltdown until it was located, but here it was twelve years later, looking as though it was frozen in time. He didn’t know why he wanted to find it so badly, something about that photo made him feel something. He debated just setting it back down in the box, sealing it up for another twelve years, maybe giving the whole thing to her if she had a wife and kids of her own.
He took the stuffed bird upstairs with him, ran it through the washing machine and even asked Barbara to help him sew and restuff the old toy. She didn’t question it, but she happily obliged, asking him if this was a gift for someone. He shrugged, still unsure if he would simply keep it in his office for some kind of posterity or give it to Lydia. The question was answered when he lost track of time and Lydia came running up in the attic, throwing her backpack by the door and kicking off her shoes before hopping on the couch next to Barbara and her father. It to her a second to realize who all was upstairs, and even longer to notice what was in Barbara’s hands.
“God, I haven’t seen that thing in forever,” she remarked, a hint of hesitation in her voice that went undetected by the others, “Where’d you even find him?”
“I was looking at some old pictures, and I don’t know I just had a feeling that it needed to be found? I think his name was Artie or something like that-”
“Artemis.” She corrected, reaching out for the stuffed owl. She held it in her hands for a second, brushing the now white fur with her thumb before shaking her head and handing it back to her father, “Maybe, I don’t remember. It was a long time ago.” Lydia suddenly stood up from the couch and started to walk towards the door.
“Do you want to hold onto it? For posterity sake?”
“I’m not a little kid anymore dad. I’m fifteen, I don’t need a stuffed owl.”
With that statement she grabbed her backpack and left, her footsteps could be heard going down the stairs, and her bedroom door slammed shut beneath them. Charles sat there bewildered, Lydia always loved that toy, he understood that she was older now but for her to hate it so much, he was confused.
“I’m sorry Charles,” Barbara empathized, “It was a sweet gesture, but at least you can have a nice memory of her childhood for your office.”
He looked back down at the owl, before nodding and wishing the Maitland’s a good night. He went back into his office and placed the bird on one of his bookshelves next to a framed photo of an elementary aged-Lydia beaming at the camera, two gaps where her front teeth should have been that had just become the property of the tooth fairy. He tried to push all the thoughts of what happened away, opening his laptop and diving into work. He wasn’t sure what time it was that he fell asleep but he was woken up by the creaking of his office door. Always on guard that it could be BJ trying to play a prank on him, he instantly snapped awake and shouting, “What are you doing in here?”
But it wasn’t BJ. Flipping on the light switch he saw a startled Lydia clutching at her chest as she tried to catch her breath. She was standing illuminated by the light in the hallway, her baggy t-shirt down to her knees, her eyes were puffy and red and her hands were held behind her back. Charles softened immediately and went over to hug Lydia, she was tense in his arms though not wrapping hers around him. He smiled at her, trying to calm the situation down but she still seemed extremely worked up over something. He glanced around the room, unsure of what to say when he noticed that the owl was now missing off the bookshelf. Charles nodded his head, opened the photo book off his desk, pulled over a chair and gestured for Lydia to sit next to him. Still staying silent she slowly walked over, the owl appearing from behind her back as she sat down and placed it softly on her lap.
He flipped the book to the page he was on earlier and pointed at the picture. Lydia’s eyes softened as she was mesmerized by the photo, her mother frozen in a laugh, the owl clutched in her own tiny hands. She took the book in her hands and stared for a while, “You probably won’t believe this because I was so young but I remember this day.”
“You do?”
She nodded, “Me and mom were playing in the living room and for some reason, I wanted to line them all up in a row and dramatically recite stories that she would tell me to them. I used to reenact them sometimes too and I just remember mom laughing the whole time, not because I was being a dumb little kid but, I don’t know, she seemed to be having just as much fun as I was. She never told me my ideas were stupid no matter how out there they were, like remember the time that me and her pretended we were birds for a whole afternoon.”
Charles laughed, “You guys were VERY dedicated to the game. I’m pretty sure she even chewed up food and spit it in your mouth.”
“I know! It was so gross I can’t believe she actually did it.”
“Your mother was up for anything, we would be laying in bed at night and we would just talk for hours about all the things we wanted to do with you. Some plans sooner than others, most of them were her idea. I was never all that good at coming up with them. Like for your fifth birthday we planned out this whole party for you at this outdoor park but then it poured and she didn’t even miss a beat, she had something just as fun planned so that you didn’t have to feel left out on your special day.”
“I didn’t even know that there was ever an original plan.” Lydia giggled, leaning her head on her father’s shoulder as they flipped through more of the photo album. She scrunched up her nose at her old blonde hair and he couldn’t help but laugh, he couldn’t really imagine her as a blonde anymore either. She looked very, Lydia now, but he loved her either way.
The two of them looked at photo albums for a long time, losing track of time, but every now and again a photo would spark a conversation or earn a laugh or an embarrassed look off of her. The owl still sat propped up in her lap, even as she started to doze off on her father’s shoulder. They got to the end of the book and she sleepily muttered, “I still miss her.”
“I miss her too.”
She gathered Artemis up in her arms and clutched it close to her chest, “I think I’m getting better, I have days where I think I’m doing so much better and I don’t know why but seeing Artemis again… I didn’t think it would affect me this much, it just brought back a lot of memories.”
“It’s okay to remember, I still can’t be sorry enough that I didn’t let you talk about her before we moved in. I never should have made you feel guilty for wanting to think about the old times, I just didn’t want them to make you sad, you were so sad back then but the thing is there are so many good memories. Like Artemis and birthday parties and lazy days in pajamas just watching movies because it snowed outside.”
She smiled, her eyes drooping shut as she tried to fight away sleep threatening to take over, “Or when she used to speed the car down the hill we were would drive home from school, or she’d pretend she couldn’t find her house keys and pretend some monster or serial killer was chasing us. It’s the little things like that, it makes it so hard to be okay all the time because even looking at a stuffed owl that I was crazy about when I was a baby was enough to wreck me for a whole night.”
“I should have been more careful about giving it to you, it was an emotional object I shouldn’t have tried to pull it off as a casual gift.”
She yawned and burrowed further into his shoulder, closing her eyes gently, “S’okay. Can you talk to me more about her?”
He knew she needed to go to bed, she still had school in the morning but he obliged flipping through another photo album and telling stories from memories that the photos unlocked. The clock on his desk read 2 am when she finally fell asleep, he shifted awkwardly and gathered her up in his arms just as he did when she was so much smaller. He carried her to her bedroom and laid her down in her bed, pulling the covers up and placing Artemis the dingy old owl next to her pillow.
