so ….i’ve been rewatching “The Spectacular Spider-Man” and i just wanted to give my lukewarm takes on it (just my own personal opinions!) prepare for horrible analysis and alot of words!!!!!
Tumblr media
1. THE VILLAINS LOWKEY SUCK
i say this with an open mind because Spectacular Spider-Man is a kids show… but the villains are not good. I feel like there is very little build up on these characters origin stories and why the way they act like they do. For example electro, an ordinary repair guy who is involved in a work accident while working on machinery next to genetically altered eels. for me i just couldn’t understand where all his hatred was coming from except for the fact that he is never able to go back to his life. Like this guy is traumatized and now has to adjust to a new life that harms everyone and then boom he’s evil and hates Spider-Man (Too much Spider-Man hate and not enough I-hate-the-world kind of hate! ). There just wasn’t more of a build up to it, like i wished he tried to be like a hero just like Spider-Man then completely fucks everything up while trying to do good. I know certain life altering changes completely changes someone but i still wish he tried to cling onto his human characteristics (like his morals he once had from who he used to be). It would’ve been cool if he tried to be himself again more mentally and then threw that out the window cuz it was never gonna work out)That’s also one thing i see recurring with the villains is that they just hate Spider-Man…. But I still try to keep an open mind as it is a really short show and apparently electricity is the main source for all evilness in this show (literally).
Tumblr media
2. He’s a hoe
heavy on this one cause pete cannot choose from liz, gwen, mj, black cat or that bugle secretary. He went from that shordy who worked at the bugle to mj to liz allan to black cat then to liz again then gwen then LIZ AGAIN then gwen again? it was like every 5 seconds he was switching sides …like oh man! liz is into me.. oh and gwen too!! and then he just wouldn’t make up his mind. This guy is a man whore I STILL REMEBER THE SCENE WHERE HE FINALLY DECIDED TO TALK TO GWEN AFTER THEIR KISS AND SHE BLEW HIM OFF SO HE STARTED THINKING ABT MJ WHILE SHE(MJ) WAS TALKING TO HIM. even she told him to get it together 😔 do better peterman
Tumblr media
3. Mjs incredible personality✨
this one’s not too much of a big deal and i can tolerate it but it still irks me. Throughout the entire time of Mjs screen time is her personality which kind of ruins her character in this show. From the way she talks to how she flirts with everyone in the show bothers me. She flirts with nearly every guy in the show and she’s just… too flirty LIKE IT DOESNT FIT HER CHARACTER. It’s not the Mj i know but i still do luv. It’s just not in her character to act this flirtatious. It’s like she has no real personality other than being hot.
BONUS:
-the villains in this show were still enjoyable like otto octavius and venom, which are my personal favs. Also seeing marko stick up for a child being bullied and saving innocent people really did it for me. I also thought he was just some mindless spider-man hater but there’s a little more to it.
- despite peter being a hoe….erm i actually cannot find something good to say abt his hoe side srry y’all….
-despite Mjs flirty side, Mj is like the number one supporter for most of the characters in this show. She’s the one constantly checking on gwen and peter while also giving them relationship advice or just advice in general. Also she’s the first person to notice something is wrong. I like to call her a girls girl cuz she really looks out for the girls in the show.
thanks for reading my horrible takes i will be posting more like follow and subscribe if y’all actually read me yapping away and stay tuned y’all 🙏

Finally getting to the last few Doom Patrol episodes, and I gotta say, this whole subplot with Jane fighting with the other alters because they want to keep Kay down because they’ll (allegedly) cease to exist or be less powerful if she gets well is 😬😬😬.
#yes let's ONCE AGAIN play into the stereotype that people suffering from did have 'evil' alters that make them inherently unstable!!#let's further villainize an already misunderstood and demonized illness!!#heaven forbid we have a system of alters behave like an actual system!!!!!#like...I'm not going to pretend what they were doing with Jane was perfect (and also I don't have did so I wouldn't ever truly know anyway)#but there at least was like...DISCUSSION?? of her condition? '''miranda''' explicitly wasn't an alter but a physical manifestation of trauma#which it makes sense that if the alters gained powers then the trauma that caused them would become its own powerful force too?#like. idk it made sense to me given the mechanics of the show. and then the point being 'if you make your trauma who you are then#you'll destroy yourself and might bring other people down with you by using it as a way to filter all your behavior' which I think is...#a pretty GOOD thing to talk about?? and at least in season 1 Jane was like 'I don't control them they don't control me' and it was#something that she saw as an inconvenience but it didn't seem like her situation was presented as like...inherently BAD?#now it's just kind of like 'oh everyone is horrible except for ONE ALTER but EVERYONE ELSE IS CAPITAL E EVIL' which. BAD.#I'm also not sure how I feel about Laura apparently devolving into Awful Person offscreen between episodes when we don't even see it#like that seems. weak. and a cop-out. maybe there will be more to work with in the last few episodes but the 1917 episodes were...#underwhelming. like bird patrol on the whole was a solid episode it's just that when the primary draw of the show is character development#(or de-development) and then we don't SEE IT ONSCREEN#idk I'm rambling sorry I just. YOU STARTED SO WELL. PLEASE STICK THE LANDING IN KNOW YOU CAN DO IT.#mc13 watches doom/pat#doom patrol spoilers

I keep thinking about Silmarillion, and I was wondering : what do you think of Fëanor ?
I don’t know exactly how it should be seen...
Ooh, Fëanor. Gosh, okay, let me change the channel in my brain.
Fëanor is, at heart, a Capitalist Inventor. He's Dark Tony Stark. He creates endless things for the world to use, but what truly drives him is the bone-deep belief that he and his chosen ones deserve his most prized possessions more than anyone else. And he's willing to kill anyone on both sides to get them back. He swears an oath to fight until he gets what he wants, and thus seals the doom of untold thousands he'll never even meet.
That's an antagonist. Which is not the same thing as a villain. But Fëanor is very much an experience to be survived - or not - rather than any kind of ally. Much of what he does in the Silmarillion is imbalanced, driven by emotions he doesn't seem willing or able to control. And because he's an elf among elves, and they all live a very very long time, the effects of his choices carry forward for thousands of years. This one dude got a lot of people killed, directly and indirectly, including his whole family. For an elf was supposed to love the stars, he wasn't very stellar. Our Man in Valinor was way more into fire.
The part that bothers me about his character - and this is a modern take looking back at JRR Tolkien and his world in the last millennium - is that Fëanor is born this way. He is flawed from birth, and he's just Like That, forever. No chance to change, no encouragement to be different, to be softer, to be better, to corral his spirit of fire into something more light than heat. He's just dangerous chaos from start to finish. He comes into the world sucking his mother's spirit dry so she dies, he lives his life disagreeing with everyone around him except his sons, and he goes out encouraging those sons to hold to their unholy oath to retrieve the Silmarils or die trying. Which they do - the "die trying" part, anyway.
He's a piece of work.
He was also a brilliant, god-tier craftsman. I guess that's what happens when you study under the Vala Aulë himself, who literally shaped the physical world into existence.
He created the Silmarils, capturing the combined light of the Two Trees into three brilliant gemstones in a way no one ever did before or since.
He crafted the palantíri, which not even Sauron could replicate later.
He invented Tengwar script, which is the swirly elven writing we all associate with Middle-Earth.
He crafted the mysterious Feanorian lamps, which are crystals that emit blue light and cannot be doused.
He was constantly thinking up new ideas and crafting them. Eru only knows what he made that has been lost. You'll notice none of these things he made are swords. Yet he led an attack against the Teleri on his way out of Valinor, and the Teleri defended themselves, so I kind of assume he was also a weaponsmith, trying out new ideas in metal form if nothing else.
Brilliant and misguided, a flawed juggernaut, destined to drag the entire world and countless lives off course. The earlier these characters show up in the timeline, the more destructive chaos they end up causing.
I do not like Fëanor. He's a White Guy, doing as he pleases with no thought for the consequences, to himself, to those of his family he actually likes, or to anyone else. He holds enough privilege and power that people keep following him into disaster, and then he just goes and does it again, without learning a damn thing from his imbalanced approach. He even dies thinking he did nothing wrong ever in his life. Like... Bitch.
Having power is no guarantee that you deserve power, and Fëanor is a prime example of why.
This has nothing to do with the objects he made. Those are just tools, free to be taken and used for good or evil, as the palantíri were, and as every message ever written in Tengwar was. Would the world have been better off without the Silmarils at all, or the palantíri? Would a different language script have somehow altered the world for the better? Since it's fiction, we could just decide that Yes, Yes It Would, or No Actually Not.
What's not fictional is my distaste for presumptuous assholes with a bit of power but no self-awareness, because I've already met too many of them who weren't fictional, either.
You want my unvarnished opinion of Fëanor? He's a billionaire. And I'm glad he got eaten. It wasn't nearly soon enough.
Eat your billionaires before they get all crusty, kids. They taste best fresh and plump. Nom nom.
Still here? Oh, then it's time to compare Fëanor to TDP! Because as much as I despise him, he makes for excellent storytelling angst and conflict, and vicarious conflict is how we learn to avoid it in our real lives - if we're paying attention.
I've said before that I'd like to see some kind of Oath of Fëanor effect in TDP. The absolute horror at seeing good characters get yoinked into bad deeds just because they promised? Ahahaha, horrible, thank you, I'll have some more. If the Moonshadow assassins have something like that behind those creepy binding ribbons, I'm gonna be cackling in between my tears, fam.
But Fëanor himself? Oh, do you see, that's Aaravos! He's even got that craftsman side, since he made the relic staff, and boy is it swirly.
(Does that make Ethari a Celebrimbor type, separating himself from the dark deeds of his forebears yet still massively talented, creating amazing magical devices?)
Aaravos is the main villain of TDP, as far as we've been told. He's crafty, in both senses of the word. Did he have some angsty complex family life with half-siblings and a mother who died because she birthed him? Maybe. Stars can be born from the detritus of other stars that exploded and died, so there's a sciencey metaphor there already.
Of interest: Fëanor had seven sons, and the world of TDP has seven kinds of magic. Aaravos created at least one of them. Did he create primal magics too, from the deep magic that came before? Might there be some kind of oath involved there, with the first elves to wield differentiated magic?
How about those primal stones that look like palantíri? How many of those did Aaravos craft? Can he use one from his library to spy on people who have them or something? That would mean he could already know a ton about Viren even before he came to the Storm Spire and stole the mirror. Woah.
What about a Silmaril equivalent? Are there especially glorious magical gemstones in Xadia? Did Aaravos wear them in his crown and now he's mister Grumpy Glam without them?
Did he create the original runes that diverged into all the elven languages? With his sloppy handwriting? Heh, the other elves must've been very patient.
You know... Aaravos has been called a Promethean figure, gifting humans with knowledge and skill they didn't have. But that gift was the gift of fire. A tool. A tool employed by craftsmen.
Fëanor literally means "Spirit of Fire."
In the end, Fëanor was consumed by his own spirit. He never learned to vibe with it, and it destroyed him and many others. Sounds a lot like dark magic.
Maybe the real Oath of Fëanor in TDP is one you have to speak backwards.

The Poor Character Developments in the Heroes of Olympus Series
Rick Riordan doesn’t know how to write character arcs ✨
-Percy. What arc did he even have? From The Last Olympian to The Son of Neptune it seems like he just got more arrogant and douchey, and this is never explained or expanded on. The readers don’t know why he suddenly got so arrogant. His pride got out of control and he was doing things he knew he couldn’t do but jumped into anyway like attacking a giant head-on alone. He was reckless in PJO, but every time he always had a plan. In HoO he just turned careless. He even put other demigods’ lives at risk at times and honestly didn’t do much throughout the series. He was just kind of there, not really contributing to anything and only involved when the book needed comedic relief or to remind the readers that ‘Hey, Percy is super cool and powerful’. As for his arc, he didn’t change at all. He just got annoying and way too self-involved and vain. I mean- he was literally in front of Hercules, the man who broke Zoë Nightshade’s heart- the girl who literally sacrificed herself for Percy- and he didn’t even say or do anything? He didn’t even mention Zoë or think about her at all. All he was worried about was how ‘big-shot Jason’ got to meet the all-famous Hercules and he didn’t. And this never changed. Percy’s character arc was completely flat cause he never learned from his lessons or mistakes. Even when in Tartarus and was reminded of all the people that he lost during the Second Titan War, how he forgot about Calypso on her island for over two years, and how he left Bob the Titan alone in the Underworld, he didn’t make any move to change. After that scene, he completely forgot to even mention them again.
-Annabeth. Same thing with Annabeth, except her realism was ripped from her. She was well-written in PJO with actual flaws and weaknesses, relationships outside of her romantic one with Percy, a very important and crucial role, fighting bravely, etc., but in HoO, she- just like Percy- was pretty much dead weight, and she became extremely weak. The only thing she really accomplished was following the Mark of Athena and getting the Athena Parthenos, but she still had to be saved by everyone else, and honestly any other demigod could’ve done it way faster. Nico literally could’ve just shadow-travelled to the statue then shadow-travelled it back out. The only times she fought (which was very few times) she was always with another demigod, and the two-three times she actually fought she always had to be saved, by a newbie, especially. In the Temple of Fear, Piper ‘toughened’ her up and saved her three times from the giant Mimas, and when caught by the giants, Piper was the one to save Annabeth (again). She couldn’t do anything by herself without others having to save or help her. And she also became very dull. She didn’t have any more of her pride, short temper, care, ferocity, etc. All she was was a Percy fangirl. Everything was about him and him only. This also didn’t change. We didn’t see any improvement or alterations to her personality whatsoever.
-Jason. The majority of the fandom doesn’t like Jason- which is understandable- but they hate on him for the wrong reasons. They dislike him cause he was ‘boring’ despite him actually having multiple distinct personality traits. They just think he didn’t have any personality cause his traits weren’t directly commented on like the other characters’ were (which is actually bad writing, readers should be able to interpret a character’s personality without it being stated to them by other characters). And he even had a sense of humor. His character arc though...fell short. But! He could’ve had an amazing character arc, Riordan just focused on the wrong parts. Riordan’s take on Jason’s character arc was deciding if he was more ‘Greek or Roman’ and then deciding he was both. But...that makes no sense, cause that’s just stereotyping every single Greek and every single Roman. The fandom says that the Romans are the cruel, harsh, and merciless ones, but what about Hazel? Or Frank? Or Reyna? Or the fact that they immediately accepted Nico while Camp Half-Blood outcasted and even ostracized him? And they say that the Greeks are the fun, cool, relaxed ones, but what about Percy, the only character to canonically torture? Or Annabeth, the unfriendly bossy one? Or Thalia, the merciless, ambitious hunter? Or Piper, the prejudiced manipulator? So really, Jason’s character arc made no sense. It was written to be Jason going from ‘always following the rules and following expectations because of his godly parent’ to ‘doing whatever he wants’, but the fandom forgets that Camp Jupiter is the one who doesn’t care about godly parent, Camp Half-Blood does, cause Camp Jupiter has demigods live in barracks for the sole purpose of demigods without family members not having to live alone while Camp Half-Blood separates cabins and tables by parentage and immediately set Percy to high standards after he was claimed. Besides, does Camp Jupiter have harpies that literally kill demigods if they’re out past curfew? Plus, Jason was breaking multiple rules before his character arc anyways- leaving Camp Jupiter, sailing across the Mediterranean Sea, etc.
-Piper. Oh boy. Where to start with this one. I’ve already gone over how her horribly-portrayed backstory ruined the chances of a good character arc, but now let’s discuss the character arc she actually had. And the best way to describe it is ‘tell not show’. The main idea for Piper’s character arc was that she felt insecure about herself and useless and that she gained confidence in herself and her powers, but that’s not actually what happened, because starting from The Lost Hero, Piper showed multiple narcissistic tendencies that showed that she had a huge ego and placed herself on a pedestal she did nothing to earn or deserve. This is first shown with femininity- Piper immediately thinks that she’s better and above any girl if they so much as wear lip gloss or a dress, which is a sign of an obvious ego: thinking you’re better than everyone else (or in her case, a certain group of people) before getting to know them first. It’s also shown when her and Annabeth are looking for a weapon for Piper and when suggested that she doesn’t choose a dagger cause she’s a newbie, Piper retaliates with “But you use a dagger”...aka thinking she’s already on Annabeth’s level and that she can do whatever Annabeth can despite being a newbie. It’s not hypocrisy if Annabeth has been training for over nine years. Another example would be in The Mark of Athena-  "Piper's eyes flashed defiantly, like anything Reyna could do, she could do". Like, no, she can’t, cause Reyna has been training her whole life and Piper doesn’t even know her. Piper shows multiple signs of having a very high opinion of herself, including degrading others (especially other women) for her own sake, thinking she can do what anyone else can, thinking she’s better than everyone else, constantly fussing over her appearance, thinking she deserves everything she’s gotten and that she deserves more without earning it, etc., so her entire character arc wasn’t even there. She just went from quiet about her narcissism to openly expressing it. She never grew from her horrible traits and habits, never realized she was wrong by jumping all over Jason while he was amnesiac, etc., and the whole ‘feeling of uselessness’ was brought up once then never expanded on or mentioned ever again, and nor was her internalized misogyny and fiery hatred towards femininity (which wasn’t even explained). Riordan should’ve used the ‘snobby rich girl learns to be kinder and more modest’ or expanded on the fact that Piper almost killed her friends multiple times. In Katoptris, she saw Jason with gold eyes in Kansas then said ‘Let’s go to Kansas!’ She saw her, Jason, and Percy literally drowning and legit said ‘Let’s go drown!’ without telling them about what she actually saw in her dagger. She saw her and Annabeth exploring some ruins and said ‘Let’s go!’ despite knowing the visions were deadly. She put all of her friends in multiple, life-threatening situations and never felt guilty and wasn’t even called out on it, because no one said if the visions in Katoptris were fate- something you can’t avoid- or destiny- something you can choose and change.
-Frank. Frank’s character arc was clear, but it happened in the wrong way. The main idea of his development was that he was insecure about his appearance then gained confidence from it, but he did only after he magically gained rippling abs and muscle. He only felt good about himself once he lost all his fat as if that’s not obvious lookism, fatphobia, and fat shaming (thanks, Riordan). Frank should’ve learned to love himself despite his flab and appearance and learned that it didn’t matter what he looked like cause he would still be a hero either way. He should’ve shown the readers that ‘Hey, I don’t care what I look like, cause appearance doesn’t matter, whether you choose to do the right thing or not does’, but it was wasted for fat shaming every single reader who was insecure about their weight and didn’t or couldn’t get skinnier and telling them that they should be insecure about themselves because they don’t look like Frank. Is it really so hard for society to believe that a lot of people who aren’t stick-thin are happy and confident about their body?
-Hazel. Honestly, her character arc was one of the most confusing ones, cause she didn’t have anything to drive or even start one. Her backstory is tragic, yes, but there isn’t anything in it that she has to learn to change from cause all of that was resolved when she took down Alcyoneus and Gaea. The only thing I can think of is learning to break away from toxic people even if they’re your family or friend or cause you don’t want to hurt their feelings, but Hazel didn’t struggle with relationships at all. She wasn’t even introduced to any toxic people besides Octavian, and she already hated him. Her transition from the racist and segregated days to the modern world could’ve been really good material for a character arc along with internalized racism- she of all people (someone born and raised in segregation who was taught to hate herself and her skin tone) would grow up thinking that there was something wrong with her because of her dark skin tone and- especially after meeting so many different people of different ethnic groups and skin colors- could’ve learned to love herself and learn that skin tone doesn’t define you (which also would’ve been a perfect lesson for younger readers). Another thing that puzzled me about her ‘development’ was her powers. Her Mist control powers are cool, but what would’ve been cooler was if she was reluctant to use them because she wouldn’t want to twist the minds of people just like Gaea did to her mom. Her gem and metal control powers could’ve been expanded on but they were barely mentioned after The Son of Neptune. As for her curse, that...made absolutely no sense. Her curse was honestly just dead weight. It wasn’t even that one thing that had a lot of potential, it didn’t even have potential, cause what would she ever use it for? It was just used to make her backstory sadder, but it was never mentioned again or even explained. The only thing it could’ve been used for (and what I was hoping would happen) was if one her friends or allies took one of her cursed jewels and died because of it. The one thing I was really hoping to see in her character arc was from the quote she said to Hecate after Hecate gave her the three paths to choose from- “I’m not choosing one of your paths. I’m making my own.” This really sparked my interest because almost everything Hazel had gone through was forced onto her by others without her consent. She didn’t choose to be born into racism and segregation. She didn’t choose to be cursed. She didn’t choose to be used as a pawn by Gaea through her mother. She didn’t choose to almost raise a giant and nearly bring upon the apocalypse. She didn’t choose to use her curse against others and move to multiple places. She didn’t choose to be brought back to life. She didn’t choose to be brought to Camp Jupiter and thrown into an army. She didn’t choose to be a part of the Seven and face the same woman who used her and had her mother possessed years ago. The only two choices she made herself- destroying the island and Alcyoneus and sacrificing Elysium so her mother wouldn’t go to the Fields of Punishment- and she and her mother died because of it and she went to Asphodel for years. I was really hoping to see Hazel break free from others always making decisions for her and learn to make her own choices, but that never happened.
-Leo: His character arc was also very confusing, but because it was all over the place. Riordan kept switching up Leo’s internal problems; forgetting about one of them and jumping to another, jumping to three different others, and then going back to the first one a few chapters later. It was so confusing. And then- in the end- he focused on the worst problem Leo had- not finding a love interest. I mean, who exactly focuses on whether or not they have a girlfriend while in the middle of a war and fighting to survive again? I liked Leo’s other problems- guilt over and blaming himself for his mother’s death, seeing his fire powers as a curse instead of a gift, forcing himself to hide his pain with humor instead of opening up to people, running away from all his problems, and his abandonment issues and constant fear of being left out and alone, but they were all replaced with ‘He felt like the seventh wheel’ (cause yes, Riordan, if you don’t have a love interest, you are immediately lesser than anyone who does, obviously). Leo got over his mother’s death in The Lost Hero- which, great- but after that nothing too memorable changed about his character. He never even used or mentioned his fire powers after The Lost Hero, he continued to hide all his pain with humor, hide his emotions from other people, and never learned to open up to others about his pain and trauma, he never learned to stop running away from his powers (shown by when he faked his own death without bothering to talk to the others about feeling left out), and his abandonment issues and fears were never expanded on, he just ran into the arms of a girl who verbally abused and constantly insulted him AKA ran to the person who gave him attention, even if it was the bad kind of attention, as if that’s not something emotionally scarred people and people with abandonment issues do, and he never grew from accepting unfair hate and criticism.
-Nico. His character development was actually pretty good. From going to an energetic, cheerful, and playful kid to becoming a quiet, closed-off, and independent teen who struggled with depression and feeling alone and like he didn’t belong, to finding comfort in his family and friends (especially Reyna, Hazel, and Will) and learning to accept himself for who he was (as a son of Hades and as gay) and how to confide in others about his struggles, problems, and trauma and finally letting people in after being do dubious of people after Percy broke his promise to protect Bianca, he found out that King Minos was using him, and almost all of Camp Half-Blood excluded and ignored him. After being alone for most of his life, by the end of The Blood of Olympus, he has two homes (as stated by Reyna), is comfortable with people hugging him, allowed people to take care of and help him, decided to stay at Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter instead of isolating himself, made a bunch of new friends that helped him through his struggles, and he even showed multiple signs of healing from his depression and anxiety. His character development was pretty well-written. But, there was one thing wrong with it that kind of ruined the rest- his love life. Nico had an incredible character arc that could’ve taught multiple valuable lessons to younger readers, but most of it was ditched after he came out as gay in The House of Hades. Throughout all of his point of views in The Blood of Olympus, Nico never thought about any of his past trauma or struggles, Bianca, his new family and friends, etc. Pretty much all he thought about was finding out how to come out to the others and Percy. And while mustering the courage to come out is a huge deal and is great material for a character arc, Riordan never actually utilized it. Nico telling Reyna he was gay was really touching (best duo) and telling Percy he had a crush on him was great, but after that, his entire character was about his attraction towards Will (which was way too rushed, but that’s for another rant), and it got pretty annoying cause it made it obvious that Riordan only confirmed him gay for publicity by trying to shove it in the reader’s faces as if every gay person needs to have a boyfriend to validate and prove their sexuality. Riordan should’ve stayed on track with Nico’s original character arc.
-Reyna. THE BEST CHARACTER ARC. Hers was actually really good. She started off trying to do everything on her own because she believed that she had to be strong enough to do things by herself without help from others to learning that it’s okay to ask for help. She also started off with the (quite serious and traumatizing) problem of bottling all her emotions because she believed that she always had to put on a strong, brave face for others without showing any signs of weakness to learning that it’s okay to express your emotions and confide in others (and again, that it’s okay to ask for help). This was mostly evident after she met Nico, which (in my opinion) kick-started her motivation to change because once she saw how much Nico needed help and giving him that support and comfort, realized that everyone is allowed to ask for help and started confiding in Nico as well. I like how she stayed strict and serious cause she has a formal job- a job that’s equivalent to an American’s president, that is- so she’s supposed to be serious, and she’s only strict cause she wants to protect her people. Though I do hate when people misjudge her as ‘cold-hearted’ or ‘cruel’ because Reyna is actually one of the kindest and most selfless characters in the series. Even Pegasus (the immortal lord of the pegasi) was ‘touched’ by Reyna’s ‘compassion’ towards Scipio (he didn’t even say that to Percy about Blackjack), and it’s pretty obvious she cares deeply about her family, friends, and people. And overall, her character arc was easily the best-written one in HoO. But then Riordan- just like he does with most things in this series- completely trashed her character arc just so he could have the opportunity to make fun of wlw readers who thought Reyna and Thalia would be a good couple by making her leave everything behind for the Hunters of Artemis just cause she ‘couldn’t find a love interest’ as if joining the Hunters is the only option for single female demigods instead of just...living a normal demigod life without a partner without leaving everything they know and love behind for no reason other than their shitty love life.

Hey everyone, TED Talk anon here! I thought it would be cool to just listen to ‘Created From Filth and Dust’ and give my honest opinion on each song since this is a blog about Juliet. I tried really hard to not put any ‘disliking Juliet’ bias in here and to just give my honest, unfiltered opinion about each song (and I’m not going to include the three covers since those weren’t written by her or ‘Bad Love’ or ‘100 Little Deaths’ since those are older songs, not really a part of CFFAD). So here’s my review of ‘Created From Filth and Dust’-
Intro Poem- Not gonna lie, it was pretty cool. Song really a song per se, but a good way to start a new album. Just wish the rest of the album actually lived up to what Juliet was hyping it up to be, though the ‘lyrics’ to this poem made pretty much no sense. It was like Juliet was trying to build up Lilith Czar’s ‘aesthetic’ and tried so hard to be poetic that she forgot to add meaning to the poem. The scream at the end was unexpected and a nice touch, though it was kind of obvious Juliet doesn’t know much about metal screams. It sounded really rough and forced and most likely hurt her vocal chords. She should probably learn how to make screamo before making screamo, or else it’s just going to hurt her voice and it’s not going to come out as good as she wanted.
Feed My Chaos- Catchy chorus, but not memorable. The verses are decent with a pretty basic melody, I liked the guitar in the choruses and the bridge, and the lyrics were actually good, but Juliet’s vocals kind of ruined what could’ve been an otherwise great song. She- as I stated before- tried too hard to get the ‘raspy rocker’ voice that she just doesn’t have and it came out scratchy and hoarse, and it kind of destroyed one of the only good songs off this album (and the only one that could actually qualify as ‘rock’).
King- The melody of the verses broke my ears. I’m sorry, but it was just flat-out bad. It sounded like something from a cliché teen movie. Instruments were kind of bland, nothing really catchy. As for the lyrics, I’ve already discussed this before, but they are honestly the opposite of feministic. With the lines ‘Who's to say a woman can't think with her dick?’, ‘Don’t test the switchblade in between my legs’, and ‘If it’s a man’s world, I wanna be king’ plus the actual song title ‘King’ make it sound like she’s saying that men- or at least masculinity- are stronger and better than women, like you have to be masculine to be tough. As for the line ‘If it’s a man’s world wearing the crown’, god I hate that line. It’s basically like she’s saying she’s giving up on ‘feminism’ and ‘women empowerment’ and instead saying ‘It’s a man’s world, we can’t change that, guess I got to act like a man to earn my place now’ instead of actually promoting female empowerment and gender equality. Overall, I hate this song. It’s toxic masculinity, internalized misogyny, and promoting sexist masculinity in women dressed as a femme fatale, and it’s not very appealing to the ears, as well.
Anarchy- Pretty catchy, not gonna lie. The lyrics are good, the drums are catchy, but I can’t really hear the guitar or bass. The only problem I have with this song is that the melody of the chorus and verses are the exact same, like Juliet got lazy and decided to use the same one. It’s not rare in the music industry, per se, but it typically shows that the artist just wanted to get the song over and done with. Other than that, the song was actually pretty good, Juliet’s vocals weren’t as bad as the others, and it was quite memorable. She should’ve stuck with writing songs like this, cause the direction she went in after this one was just awful. Probably the best song off this album but the 'If you fight me you're fighting a whole army' line makes me laugh. Fighting which army, yours or Andy's?
Lola- Kind of boring, not really notable, special, or catchy. Her vocals were decent, the chorus was okay, and the lyrics actually had some sort of meaning, but I’m really indifferent with this song to be honest. Not the best, but not the worst.
In My Head- Meh. The intro guitar was catchy, but the whole time she was more speaking than talking, so it wasn’t really all that entertaining. Also sounds like something from a cliché drama movie, and the lyrics were so confusing. I couldn't tell if she was horny or depressed. It was like she was trying to mix the two and it just wasn’t working. Also it sounded like she was trying to be all ‘edgy’ but that honestly just ended up sounding like she was glorifying mental illness or something, like she’s commending herself for having a ‘fucked-up mind’ or whatever and acting like being messed up in the head makes you a badass.
Unholy- Sounds like it would be in the sex scene of a bad country movie. I don’t really have an opinion on this song. The lyrics are raunchy and personally not for me, her vocals aren’t terrible, the melody isn’t really good, and the instruments are pretty generic. Nothing horrible but nothing special about this song. It has nothing to do with this ‘Lilith Czar’ character Juliet has made (and honestly, neither do most of the songs).
Diamonds to Dust- Kind of boring to be honest. I know it’s supposed to be a sad, slow song but it wasn’t remarkable or artistic in any way, and it low-key sounds recycled from ‘End Of The World’. A pretty crummy way to end an album in my opinion, like a failed ‘Save Rock and Roll’ situation. The lyrics actually made somewhat sense and Juliet’s vocals were pretty good (definitely not to her best potential, but good), but the emotion wasn’t there. Juliet tried to make a sad, touching, and emotive ending to her album but her voice just wasn’t in it. She didn’t show any emotion whatsoever, like she was just reading the lyrics off a page. It overall wasn’t that great of a song.
Overall, I’d say this album was a huge flop. Most of the songs I forgot the melody to right after listening to it, some I straight-up disliked, and the few that were actually good were ruined by one factor or another. The album didn’t have any significant meaning and none of the songs had any deep, important messages to send, or they sent the completely wrong ones. Most of the instruments were kind of generic with a few quality exceptions but Juliet tried so hard to sound like a badass, raspy rocker chic that she forgot to sound good. Also the Lilith Czar thing sort of bugs me. She built and hyped up this character so much but never actually used her, and she didn’t create Lilith just as a stage name like ‘Andy Black’, but as an alter-ego and forgot to so much as mention her after ‘Intro Poem’ or use her supposed symbolism as a feministic female patron (correctly, that is). She changed up the genre every single song, two of the songs aren’t even hers, two of the songs were some of her old ones, and another is just a poem and not even a song. That’s only seven songs with seven original lyrics, seven original melodies, and seven original instrumentals, and even then a lot of them sounded recycled from her old songs or they sounded generic and dull, and Juliet acts like it’s rock and metal but in reality it’s more pop with a few rock influences here and there. All in all some of the worst music Juliet has ever made and I would never recommend this to anyone. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk ✌🏽
oh my gosh i love that you did this. i was actually going to do posts for each of her EPs (both Juliet & Lilith's) giving my opinion on each song. i was just waiting until i had a day off work (bc my weekend is actually thursday and friday lol) but maybe i'll do it when i leave today!

feels like we’re going home
i started watching the owl house last week and the tl;dr is that i do not control the hyperfixation, so this happened. this takes place immediately following 1x13, so spoilers for that episode if you haven’t seen it yet.
also on ao3
It was strange, Eda thought as she flew towards Hexside. Luz had only been around for a few short weeks, but she had already become such a fixture in Eda’s life that Eda had spent most of the day pacing the house trying not to think about how Luz was doing at school while also trying to remember how exactly she had spent her time before all of this. Neither of those pursuits had been very successful, and she breathed a sigh of relief when it was finally time to pick up Luz.
Owlbert seemed to pick up on the change in her mood instantly, and he hooted as they neared the school.
“Shut it, you,” Eda snapped. “I’m not going soft, you’re going soft.” Owlbert didn’t respond, but Eda knew her palisman well enough to know that he wasn’t convinced.
She touched down at the edge of the courtyard, a good distance away from the gaggle of parents and witchlings. No matter what Bump had promised about keeping the eyes of the Emperor’s Coven off of her, she still wasn’t exactly eager to draw any attention to herself; especially not while Luz was so new.
It only took a few minutes before Eda spotted Luz chatting with the little Blight girl. When she saw Eda, though, her face lit up and she waved as she jogged over.
“So did you have a good…woah.” Eda trailed off as she took in the bright colors on Luz’s uniform that she was pretty sure hadn’t been there this morning. “Sweet mother of isles, what the heck did you get yourself into, kid?”
“Eda, you’re not going to believe the day I had!” Luz cried. “Principal Bump put me in the potions track, but I sort of accidentally did some oracle magic and I got put in detention, but then the inspector from the Emperor’s Coven turned out to be this giant snake monster and it was eating everyone’s magic, but we saved everyone and then Principal Bump decided the track rules were outdated, so I get to study in all the tracks now!”
Her entire speech was animated in classic Luz fashion, and Eda’s head was practically spinning trying to follow everything. “Okay, you’re going to have to walk me through that again just a little bit slower, I caught, like, none of that. Who’s eating magic monsters now?”
“Not important,” Luz said. “I mean, it was, and I’ll tell you about it all tonight, but hold on, I think Jerbo and Barcus already left, but I have another friend that I think would really love to meet you. I’ll be right back.” She dashed off across the courtyard before Eda had a chance to process her words.
“More friends?!”
As if on cue, King popped out of a nearby garbage can with a soft “Weh!” There were crumbs on his paws and something purple that looked like abomination goop saturating the end of the long red tie he almost certainly hadn’t been wearing that morning. “I know, right?” he said. “That kid could make friends in an empty box.”
Eda’s hands fell to her hips as she glared at the demon. “And just what have you been doing all day? I was looking for you at the house all afternoon. Or did you just forget that you’re supposed to be working for me?”
“Listen, sister, some of us have greater vocations in life than being a witch’s errand-demon. Mine is shaping the next generation of young minds, and I think that we teachers deserve a little more respect.”
“Forget I asked,” Eda said as she rolled her eyes. She caught sight of Luz coming back towards them, leading a pale girl with thorns around her brown ponytail and…was that a fish hook for an earring? Okay, maybe Eda was a little impressed.
Luz skidded to a stop, but the girl behind her had her eyes so firmly fixed on Eda that she nearly fell into Luz. She, too, was wearing a multicolored uniform, and there was an almost reverential look in her eyes that almost made Eda a little self-conscious. Almost.
“Eda, this is my new friend, Viney. Viney, meet Eda the Owl Lady,” Luz said proudly. “But you might know her better as—”
“Lord Calamity,” Viney breathed.
“Excuse me?” Eda glanced at Luz. “What’s going on here?”
“You created the Secret Room of Shortcuts!” Viney exclaimed. “Oh man, Jerbo’s never gonna believe this.”
“The room with all the doors?” Bits of memories started to appear in the back of Eda’s mind of slipping into secret passages to get out of trouble, eavesdropping on classes and conversations, meeting Lilith in between classes sometimes just to check in.  It was her grandest achievement by far, but one of the first to be forgotten almost as soon as she had dropped out. But this was hardly the time to unpack that, so she just smirked as she said, “We used to use that for all kinds of pranks back in the day. Bump still hasn’t found it yet?”
She noticed the glint in Luz’s eyes at the word ‘we.’ There were going to be a lot of questions later tonight, but after a day of silence broken only by Hooty, she’d take it.
Viney shook her head. “Nope. A couple of older kids showed us how to access the entrance in the detention room and we’ve been using it to study all kinds of magic all year. You’re basically our hero.”
“Happy to be of service,” Eda said. “I mean, it’s not exactly setting ghosts loose in a changing room or stealing teeth, but I’m glad it’s still getting put to good use.”
“Oh, there’s plenty of pranks too,” Viney said. “Your hexed graffiti is the coolest I’ve ever seen.”
“Ha! Use it well, kid,” Eda said. “And listen, I’m glad Bump is loosening up in his old age, but if you ever want to ditch this place, the Bad Girl Coven is always accepting applications.”
“Really?” Viney’s eyes grew wide and she looked from Eda to Luz and back again, but before she could reply, someone called her name from across the courtyard and Viney sighed. “That’s my mom. I have to go.” She turned to Eda and bowed her head. “It’s an honor to meet you, Lord Calamity. See you tomorrow, Luz!” She turned and waved as she ran off again.
“So…,” Eda said after a long moment. “I take it school wasn’t as horrible as you thought?”
“No, it was great! I mean, aside from the basilisk almost stealing everyone’s magic and destroying the school, but as long as that’s not a regular thing, I think I’ll like it at here.”
“How in the heck did you take down a bas—” Eda stopped herself. “You know what? Maybe that’s a conversation we can have later. I’m just glad you had a good time. Which reminds me…” She paused to dig around in her hair until she found what she was looking for. It was the same round badge she had offered Luz that morning, except it had been altered to read Not a Quitter Badge. “It’s not much, but…I’m proud of you, kid.”
Luz gasped as she took the badge. “¡Es asombrosa! I love it!” She threw her arms around Eda, and even though it caught Eda more than a little off guard, she found herself hugging Luz back. After a moment that was somehow both too long and too short for Eda’s liking, Luz stepped back and pinned the badge to the front of her uniform and puffed out her chest proudly. “What do you think?”
Eda could feel her heart swell at the sight and she really hoped that Luz couldn’t tell how choked up she was as she said, “It looks great. And it’s almost certainly against the dress code, so that’s a bonus.”
The next thing Eda knew, Luz's arms were around her waist and hugging her tightly. The more surprising part, though, was that Eda had been ready for it.“Thank you, Eda,” Luz said.
Eda waved her hand nonchalantly as they broke apart. “Don’t mention it,” she said. “Just promise me you’ll beat some of my sister’s illusion records and that’ll be thanks enough.”
Luz’s face turned stony serious in an instant and she gave Eda a mock salute. “I’ll do my best,” she said.
“That’s good enough for me,” Eda said with a smile. She ruffled Luz’s hair and then dipped her staff so that they could both get on. “Now hop on,” she said. “I’ve got dinner cooking back at the house and I left Hooty watching it, so we should probably go.” She paused and frowned as she scanned the courtyard. “King!”
King scampered away from some kid’s bag lunch that had been abandoned on the cobblestones, but not without swiping a stack of cookies and leaving a trail of crumbs behind him. He hopped into the hood of Luz’s cowl and made himself comfortable. “Ugh. Teaching is rewarding and all, but I could use a vacation.”
Luz giggled and Eda rolled her eyes as Owlbert spread his wings and they lifted into the late afternoon sky.
“So,” Eda said. “In just one day you managed to get branded as a delinquent, save the school from a demon, become the first student in Hexside history to study all nine tracks, and on top of it all, you managed to break Bump’s will which is the one thing I never accomplished in my time there. How are you going to top all of that tomorrow?”
“I’m sure I’ll figure something out,” Luz replied. She was quiet for a moment, but just as the Owl House came into view between the trees, she asked, “So who’s ‘we’?”
Eda tipped the staff downward before pulling up hard just short of the grass. “Whoops, turbulence, I can’t hear you!”
Luz yelped and then laughed as they sped towards the house, and Eda couldn’t help the smile that tugged at the corners of her lips as they touched down in front of a house that had only recently started to feel like a home with a kid who had quickly become a far bigger part of her life than Eda had ever imagined. Maybe she really was going soft after all. And maybe that wasn’t such a bad thing.

Just Next Door-Sam Wilson x Reader
Tumblr media

Summary: Sam moves to new apartment filled with the usual neighbours, always armed with brief conversations; including the girl next door (Y/N). He doesn't know much about her, until something triggers a panic attack, revealing that they have more in common than they thought.
Characters: Sam Wilson x Reader
Meanings: (Y/N)=Your name
Warnings: Panic attacks, mentions of war, fighting and death
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Sam hadn't been all too happy when he had to leave his home because of the aftermath of the whole 'civil war' situation. There wasn't really any plan put in place as to what they would do now, seeing as they were still under watch by the government. Steve had said to lay low, separate themselves to a certain distance, but not too much that they were out of reach. So here he was, having lived in a normal apartment building for three months, lying around, waiting for something to happen.
Looking at the positives, it was quite nice to go back to the normal part of life. This is what it would have been like if Captain America hadn't come along; except it would be back in his own home, not this small apartment. Still, after all the shit they had been through, why waste time looking on the negatives?
When there was a knock on the door, Sam was cautious, you never knew what was on the other side, or who could be coming after him. After stealthily checking the peephole, he relaxed when he saw it was his neighbour, (Y/N). A kind smile was on his face as he opened the door.
She was also grinning, one hand in her blazer pockets and the other holding onto the straps of her handbag."Hi, just letting you know that they're finally looking into the plumbing for the whole place. Saw some guys come in through the entrance."
"Thank god. I was only just getting used to having hot water for thirty seconds."
"Tell me about it."
"Busy day at the office?"
"Average, but no one pissed me off today, so that's good, I guess. What about you?"
"You know the drill. Staying in hiding till Cap needs me."
It was impossible not to know who Sam was. The news had covered as much as they could, the stories were practically selling themselves. However he was fortunate that most people living here didn't interact all that often. He had been wary of (Y/N) at the beginning, wondering if she was some sort of spy sent out to keep an eye on him; but he was able to figure her out, she was just your typical neighbour, a friendly greeting here and there, small conversations.
(Y/N) sighed."You've been here for so long though."
"Life of a hero isn't all that glamorous."
"No, suppose not. Well, I'm gonna grab dinner, I'll see you later."
"Uh (Y/N)," Sam held the door slightly open,"I've actually filled my time with cooking, and I definitely have enough for the both of us, if you want?"
"Oh, uh..."
"Not like, in a date way or anything, as friends."
Her voice was enthusiastic as she spoke."Yeah actually! I have a bottle of wine in the fridge, I'll go grab it."
They smiled at each other before she left, Sam closing the door but keeping it unlocked. He really didn't expect anything out of this. All he wanted was some company, just a friend to talk to, someone down to Earth. (Y/N) had only asked questions about his alter ego once, and then was when they first met. After that, she was the only one who looked at him like a normal person.
The meal together was full of laughter and some deep talks. Sam didn't let too much out, he still had to be careful. (Y/N) spoke of her childhood (as had he), what she had always dreamed of doing and fun anecdotes from work. However, Sam realised she had mission a portion of her life out, she had mentioned she had an 'old job' but never stated what it was (in fact, she had never even implied where she worked). Sam had tried to direct the conversation back that way, though (Y/N) was able to steer it right back, completely avoiding it. He decided it was unimportant at this stage of the friendship, he didn't want to pry. Though, she did tense up slightly when he mentioned his time in the military.
Sam felt refreshed the next day. Talking with (Y/N) had given him a break from the silence, or the yapping from the TV and radio. Well, he was at peace until he looked at his laundry basket. Another annoying thing about the apartment was that the washing had to be done in a communal laundry room. He had always found it strange how people came together in one room to do their laundry.
Effortlessly carrying the basket downstairs, he saw his neighbour also headed to the same place. (Y/N) had sensed someone behind her, relieved when it was Sam.
"Thank god it's you," she had sighed,"I wouldn't be able to deal with Jim at this time in the morning."
They walked down the rest of the stairs together, easing into conversation again. Sam noticed that her basket was just as big and full as his, yet she had no trouble with it; her office uniform hid her muscular arms, as if she had been lifting weights all her life. Still, Sam only saw snippets of (Y/N), perhaps she was a gym junky.
Their talking continued as they began loading their laundry into the machines. Sam had his back to (Y/N), until he heard a bang on the floor. His instincts caused him to whip around, calming when he saw that (Y/N) had knocked her basket over. She was knelt down, hair falling in front of her face as she scooped everything back in.
"Here, I'll help you." Sam offered, kneeling down opposite her.
It was only when he was level with (Y/N) that he saw the true state she was in. Her body was shaking, hunched over, breathing rapid. He recognised the signs of a panic attack, but what had brought it on? He noticed that she was clutching onto something in her hands; it was a military hat, green camouflage, the army. Whether it be hers or someone she knew, Sam had to do something to help her. The machines around him were creating loud, banging noises, so he quickly went round and turned them all off (hopefully no one walked in and made a complaint, now wasn't the time) before going back to (Y/N).
"(Y/N), it's OK, you're safe. You're safe with me, in the apartment building. We're in the laundry room, yeah?" Sam calmly said, kneeling in front of her. He repeated these words, slowly and gently reaching out for her.
Her hands were still gripping onto the hat, eyes in a trance like state until Sam finally started getting through to her. The shaking stopped, tears began to dry, and she practiced her breathing with Sam. Soon, she was back to a somewhat normal state.
"You OK?" Sam whispered after a few more minutes of breathing.
She nodded before she spoke."Yeah...sorry, I'm so sorry you had to witness that-"
"Hey, it's alright, these things happen." Sam reassured her as she began crying again."You were in the army."
"Mhm. Years ago."
"It's a tough world."
"You can say that again. I saw too many horrible things. Thought I could get through it, wanted to serve my country but... But it was just too much."
"It gets too much for everyone, it's normal."
Sam decided to reveal another part of his life, knowing that if he connected with her, she might feel more comfortable.
He sat down next to her both of them leaning against the machines."I lost a friend actually, a very close one. It was a tragic accident."
Surprisingly, she opened up straight away."So did I. I think too many of us did. I keep in touch with a few of my comrades, we try to talk about it, but it's hard."
"You know, I actually ran meetings before I met Cap, about PTSD, aftermath of coming out of the forces, anything really. So, if you need to talk, I'll be happy to listen. As a mentor or a friend. But there's no pressure, it's always in your own time."
"Thank you Sam." Megan looked down at her cap, holding it more caringly."I thought I had packed this away with my uniform somewhere, must have slipped in the basket somehow. Just... I wasn't expecting to see it."
"Of course not. Has this happened before?"
"I used to have nightmares sometimes. The worst thing was this slamming door downstairs, I always asked a neighbour to get it sorted, they never did. It just reminded me of the guns and bombs, especially when it came out of nowhere; they didn't have a particular schedule, so I couldn't even expect the noise. One day I went down to ask one last time before complaining to the manager of the place, but it slammed and I broke down in the hallway. I just can't seem to control it, someone always finds me crumpled up on the floor."
"I can give you techniques to help with that, if you want them."
"Please, that would actually help."
"Course. For now, shall we get on with our laundry?"
They both chuckled, the mood lightening. He helped her off the floor, going back around and turning the other machines on again, once (Y/N) had agreed. Small talk was made as they carried on like nothing happened, but (Y/N) hadn't let go of her hat. Sam saw, though made no comment, not right now.
"You sure you're gonna be alright?" Sam checked as they stood outside their doors.
"I think so. It's strange isn't it? How something like a piece of clothing can bring back so many memories."
"The human brain is complex. Everyone has has the same feeling, whether in the forces or not."
"Yeah, I guess so. Thank you Sam, I'll use those techniques you told me about." she started to unlock her door.
"If you ever need me, at anytime as well, just knock, yeah?"
"I will." before she closed the door, she caught his attention again."Sam?"
"Hm?"
"It's comforting to have someone who's been through the same thing. Thank you for helping me today."
“Well, you know I’m just next door. I'll always be right here."

*Reuploaded FOR THE THIRD TIME because I realized that this never showed up in any of this fandom’s tags the first two times I posted it :/ Now I am trying this as a text post with images instead of a typical art post because nothing is freaking working and I am so frustrated.
Because read-mores apparently make my post glitchy, I apologize in advance for the length of this post, and hopefully, it doesn’t clog your dashes/the tags too badly.*
Another CatCF/WWatCF sketchdump~
The top drawing is the characters from the 1971 adaptation ten years later (which was an excuse to draw 80′s fashion, haha).
Ten years later doodles (from left to right) Top row: Violet and Veruca Second row: Mike, Charlie, and Augustus
(I think Violet turned out to be the best of these doodles!)
Some headcanons for the ten years later drawings (this would have been the section under the read-more, if it worked :/ ):
I always headcanoned the characters in the ‘71 version to be thirteen, minus Mike, who I saw as eleven. So basically everyone in the drawing is twenty-three except for Mike, who is twenty-one.
Violet: For years after the nightmare that was the factory tour, Violet struggled with major body image issues, especially about her blue skin. (And is homeschooled because of this.) However, eventually, her mindset basically became ‘Wonka thought this was a punishment? Fuck that; I’m going to embrace it’, so she became more confident.
Once this confidence hits during her late teens, she uses her unusual appearance to her advantage (especially when it comes to attracting visitors/potential buyers to her dad’s car dealership).
She doesn’t go to college; instead, she works at her dad’s place, and basically learns how to be a mechanic.
She hasn’t chewed gum since the factory tour.
When Charlie contacts her and the others, she is hesitant to respond back, but ultimately does (to sass him, at the very least). During the group’s future meetups, she’s basically the glue that keeps them together.
Veruca: Unlike Violet, Veruca carries a lot of guilt about what happened during the factory tour, since her father was punished along with her. He fell wrong, and as a result, was paralyzed from the waist down, and is now in a wheelchair. Veruca was lucky; aside from a broken ankle, she did not suffer any worse injuries.
Because of this, Veruca becomes mute (her mouthing off and constantly asking for things is what led to her–pun not intended–downfall, so she decides that it would be for the best if she stops talking altogether.)
Despite the Salts being wealthy, Wonka paid all of their medical bills. Even though it would have made sense for them to take him to trial, they decided not to (Henry did not want anyone to see him in his new state, and Veruca’s anxiety spiked even thinking about the factory).
When Charlie contacts the four ‘rejects’ ten years after the tour, Violet starts to bring Veruca out of her shell. Though it is ultimately Augustus who helps her feel comfortable speaking again, due to his soft-spoken personality.)
Mike: Like the others, Mike was very traumatized by what happened to him during the tour. (Especially since he was younger than the rest of them.)
While Violet embraced her altered state, and Veruca withdrew from the world, Mike became bitter. Very bitter. Because, while sure, Wonka and co. were able to get him back to about normal size [after stretching him waaaay too tall and thin the first time; his mother fainted, then had plenty of choice words for everyone involved when she came to], the process was incredibly painful, and involved basically rubber-fying his bones and muscles temporarily (yeah, he still had no idea why Wonka would even create a candy that did that).
Because of that, he has scars all over his body–the most on his arms, legs, and torso–so he always wears long-sleeved shirts or jackets, and long pants.
He is pissed that his life was ruined at age eleven; sure, he was obnoxious, but he was a KID. Now he’s stuck with chronic pain, not to mention the occasional breakdown because he has no idea if he’s actually HIM, or just a copy that was beamed through Wonka’s television room that managed to keep his soul. (Yeah, he doesn’t like to dwell on that; he prefers to think that that would be impossible.) [A/N: That part comes from the fact that Wonka stated that the chocolate that appeared in the TV screen was a copy of the much larger chocolate bar that was beamed through the air, and not the original bar itself]
When Charlie contacts him, he almost sends a nasty letter back, but something in him pauses, and he ends up sending a civilized response. It wasn’t Charlie’s fault all this happened to him; Charlie was the nice one, and, though he would never admit it to anyone, on the tour, he thought Charlie was cool. Goody-two-shoes, but in the ‘Lovable TV Protagonist’ sort of way.
As the five of them start meeting/corresponding through letters, he lets Charlie past all the walls he put up, and is definitely the closest to him in the group.
Charlie: Happily becomes Wonka’s protege after the tour. He is ecstatic that he not only gets to live and learn to work in this magical place, but he and his family are finally out of poverty!
He goes to school during the day, then learns the tricks of the candy trade in the afternoons and evenings.
However, about ten years after winning the tour, Wonka just…vanishes. And that’s when Charlie finds the videos showcasing what happened to the other four Golden Ticket winners after their mishaps.
Charlie is appalled; looking back, they were all so young. Of course, they were bratty; that’s how kids ARE. (Sure, some of them were worse than others, but they didn’t deserve their fates! Essentially, the four ‘losers’, plus Mr. Salt, were toyed with and tortured, and their parents could not help them.) Mike’s was especially horrible, to him; it was the only tape he couldn’t finish.
This makes Charlie feel a little guilty; he got off easy, even though he also disobeyed the rules.
He is also torn; on the one hand, Wonka was a great mentor, and he was fond of the man–he made a good father-figure, for him. But on the other hand, this was a man who thought the way to get rid of a kid’s bad habits was to torture them.
Before he could think otherwise, Charlie writes letters to the other Golden Ticket winners. He doesn’t expect anything nice back, but is surprised to find that they are all willing to talk to him.
He is relieved; he wants to right the wrongs done to them.
Augustus: The poor guy falls into a deep depression after the tour. Sure, he was thinner, but he had no problem with how he looked before. Not to mention, even the smell of chocolate and other sugary sweets makes him very nauseous. Oh, and there’s the not-so-small fear of drowning that he picked up, as well as severe claustrophobia.
He felt like a part of him was lost, since he could no longer enjoy his favorite foods. Or food in general. He ate to not starve, but that was it.
He was already quiet, but after the tour, he withdrew into himself even more, preferring to spend time with the neighborhood cats rather than people. (Yes, he is definitely a cat person.)
But he still has his kind heart, so when Charlie Bucket sends him a letter, he responds right away (and is the first one to do so).
When they start writing more letters to each other, and eventually meeting, he helps the others through their trauma, while ignoring his own. He thinks he’ll always be stuck this way.
Veruca disagrees.
And in terms of schooling, only Augustus went to college. As for high school, Violet and Mike were homeschooled, Veruca went to an exclusive, posh academy, Charlie stuck with public school, and Augustus went to a private school.
-
Now, if anyone was interested, these are the outfits that inspired the ones I drew (though, obviously, I took artistic liberties with some of them). I wanted to give them each a different style: Violet’s is the outlandish fashion the 80s are famous for, Veruca’s is demure and preppy, Mike’s is pretty unassuming, but with a slight edge, Charlie’s is comfortable/casual, and Augustus’s is comfortable/slightly formal.
Left to right: Violet, Veruca, Mike, Charlie, Augustus

(And I imagine the back of Mike’s jacket looking like this, aka with a vent, which is why the back of the jacket isn’t visible in the gap of his legs):

WOW, that got so long (oops…), but those were just my ideas for how these characters would interact and act ten years later. Hopefully someone enjoys this, XD

ooh I'm so curious about your boon now. how myc of it are you willing to disclose? what's the setting? how does magic work?
I’m so flattered anybody’s interested in it at all! ^.^
I confess, I’m super, irrationally paranoid about idea theft, so I don’t share a ton of details outside of my writing group and alpha/beta readers, but I’m trying to get past that, so I’ll share a little bit and see if I can talk my anxiety down to sharing more later. Basically I say this to apologize for the fact that I’m being a bit vague here. It’s not because I’m offended you asked or anything, I’ve just got some issues of my own.
So the basic premise in a really shortened, simplified, and condensed version is as follows:
About 15 years before the story begins, there was a war with an evil sorceress. She basically converted all the other magicians to her side and they were just absolutely annihilating everyone. Three countries formed an alliance and ended up taking her out. Huzzah, day saved! The story picks up right before a big festival in honor of the 15th anniversary of the alliance’s formation. The alliance, while originally a military compact, has kind of spread into a trade compact as well.
The main character is the right hand to the King who initiated the alliance in the first place. His name is Ayris. He has no last name (other than his title, “Kingsman”) because he more or less washed up on shore and the King found him. He was kidnapped as a child from his home country by some of the sorceress’s goons and had his memory wiped and they intended to bring him to the Sorceress as a kind of sacrifice. Because he’s super magic. Only after they left is when the alliance was formed and so they had no idea that the war had ended and their boss was dead. They get home and go “oh crap,” and the King rescues this little boy and goes “oh crap” because this kid is magic, and people are kind of super duper against magic right now on account of the fact that magic folks just tried to wipe them all out. But he’s a big softie and doesn’t want anything to happen to this kid so he takes him in to keep him safe. Over the years, he realizes Ayris has a talent for fighting and is super smart and super observant, so he promotes him from ward to his bodyguard, and then to a kind of all-around advisor.
And that’s where Ayris starts his journey: Content with being his King/adoptive father’s right hand man, and hiding his magical abilities because if anyone knew he’d more or less get burned at the stake.
The complications?
First, one of the nations in the alliance is super xenophobic, and they don’t like that Ayris is a “foreigner.” Even though the poor kid has no memories other than the country in which he now lives. But he ~looks different~ too- he has dark skin, white hair, and blue eyes, in a country full of tan-ish average white folks- so there’s no hiding the fact that he’s not originally from here. So he’s got to deal with all that while still acting as the King’s right hand, which means he cannot avoid the xenophobes’ leader because he’s gonna be right there with the guy the whole time.
And, of course, we have the Big Problem: The Sorceress managed to survive, as most evil magicians will, of course, and she’s back because she has a score to settle. Specifically with Ayris’s King, who dealt the ‘killing’ blow. Which, another major subplot: Ayris does not know that. He has a Batman code about killing. He refuses to take a life, and as far as he knows, the King shares that determination, because he’s very vocal about talking things out instead of resorting to violence. All that is a very formative concept for Ayris. So when he finds out that his King saw no other way to deal with things and resorted to straight up killing, he has... a LOT to process. Because....
The issue is that the Sorceress needs batteries, essentially. She’s almost out of power just from sustaining her spirit for a decade and a half. So she subsumes all the kids who had been born magic and didn’t know it since her downfall, only surprise! When she reaches out to snatch them, she finds a grown man! Ayris is all like, “Excuse? Who are you and what do you want with all these small children?” and she’s like, “Excuse? I ate all the magicians last time.” and he’s like “I beg your pardon?” Because it turns out that after she turned the magicians to her side, she decided that was too much a liability and so she snatched all their powers, killing them. Why did she decide they were a liability? Another subplot! A few of them resisted her and tried to break free of her control, but it went horribly wrong and only one of them survived, but was totally severed from her magic powers. We actually meet that character- she’s a major foil (and hardcore frenemy) for Ayris.
BUT ANYWAY
The Sorceress and Ayris are now more or less linked because of the way magic works in this world, and she’s bent on turning him or controlling him because he’s pretty dang powerful. (Which is why her goon squad kidnapped him in the first place.) She has all kinds of tricks and is basically pushing buttons from the inside to break him down, so he’s dealing with an evil lady in his head who’s attached to his powers. So of course the easiest way to isolate and mess with him would be to mess with his magic and make it hard to control. So he’s trying to keep the King safe from her hit squad, make nice with the xenophobes, and hide his powers despite this chick messing with him and trying to out him. They also have to find a way to get rid of her before she builds her army up again and goes for Round 2, and find a way to get her out of his head before she manages to take him over like she did to all the other magic folks last time.
As for how magic works, it’s described in text as a second world laying over the top of this one. Most people exist in only one world, the one you where your body is, and that’s where their soul lives, too. But some people are born with part of their soul in the other world, called the Tapestry. These people have the ability to manipulate things in the physical world because of this connection to the Tapestry. They also have an inherent connection to everyone else who is a part of the Tapestry, hence how the Sorceress can consume peoples’ power and influence them so easily. Of course, doing anything to influence or harm others in the Tapestry was always taboo, she’s just the first that managed it on a large scale and escaped the punishment.
Powers could be more or less unlimited in type and scope, but because you still exist in the physical world as well, you’re bound by your body. What happens to you in the physical happens to you in the Tapestry, and vice versa. So if you kill someone’s Tapestry self, their body dies. If you hurt someone’s physical body, their Tapestry self is also hurt. (The sorceress managed to discover a way to separate her physical and Tapestry selves, and that’s how she escaped death.) But the point is, doing magic takes energy from your body, so the more and bigger you do, the harder it is, and you could, in theory, kill yourself if you tried something big enough.
Most magicians have a specific kind of magic that comes most naturally for them, so they would often specialize. Anyone can do any kind of magic, but individuals would often train in what “called to them” most. So one guy might specialize in telekinesis, another might specialize in all things water, one might specialize in healing humans, etc. The only kind of magic that was forbidden was altering or influencing peoples’ minds or will, and that’s what made the sorceress evil- she felt drawn to/called by Feelings, other peoples’ emotions. She was a natural empath, and wanted to turn that into manipulating how people felt and thought in order to settle conflict, but that was forbidden. She didn’t want to be controlled, so she ran away from the others, started exploring and experimenting on her own, and started messing with things that she shouldn’t have and ended up kind of warping her own sense of justice and morality by toying with things she couldn’t control or understand. So now she’s bent on domination and subjugation of people who won’t willingly listen to her, all in the name of trying to bring peace and balance and justice (which was the code of the magical order she belonged to).
I know that’s long to be a summary, but this is a very, VERY long and complex story. To the point that this is going to be two books minimum. I’m about 15 chapters into the first one and working on the first round of structural edits so I can get on to writing the back half of it (more like the back 3/4, like I said, this is going to be a LONG story).
Oh, you also asked about setting! I confess to yet another late-Middle Ages European base, but culturally I tried to diversify more. The country of Xenophobes is a polytheistic theocracy with notions of manifest destiny that they’re just barely holding back on because they’re friends with the neighbors now. The country the story takes place in is culturally not super religious, and highly tolerant for the most part, which is why it’s so sad that everyone turned against the idea of magic. The third country straddles the line between the hyperconservative and frankly quite annoying theocracy and the (moderately agnostic) more liberal, understanding nation to their south. They also have a pantheon, but they allow religious freedom (also, fun tidbit, their King is gay and has a husband and an adopted son); however, they don’t allow women in combat (whereas the country Ayris is a part of does), and the people are generally more skeptical of foreigners than Ayris’s country is (except their king; he LOVES Ayris and is more or less the fun uncle).
So yeah! Book One is Ayris discovering a lot about himself, magic, and the past, and dealing with the fallout from that, and trying to find a way to protect himself and his King. And Book Two is the bigger, multinational conflict and inevitable war, and Ayris dealing with the sorceress attacking him personally and trying to find a way to stop her while the world starts falling apart around him. I don’t want to say too much more because some Stuff Goes Down in the first book that’s influential to the second one, but also kind of a surprise at this point.
Thanks for listening and letting me gush. I’ve been working on this story-- the concept, worldbuilding, and then the actual writing of it-- for a cumulative 8 years now. It’s my baby almost as much as my actual baby, and I’m very protective of it and also terrified of letting anyone see it. The mortifying ordeal of being known and all that. (Luckily my writing group is super helpful, patient, and kind!)

A Night to Remember: Persuasion
Fandom: Cats the musical Rating: T (could potentially go up later) Pairing: multiple in future chapters, Tuggoffelees, Victoria/Plato, Demeter/Munkustrap etc. Category: magical circus AU, slow burn Chapter number: 6 Chapter summary: Quaxo and Victoria decide to visit the circus the morning after the night visit. Tugger is not a morning person.
The previous chapter: A Late Visit
Tugger, being a night owl through and through, wasn't really keen on being woken up before the sun had risen high above the circus tent. If he was woken up earlier, for reasons beyond his control and liking, he asked for two things - a good reason and a gentle approach. The morning after his and Munkustrap's visit of the Spectacular siblings, he was granted only one of those - the reason was, indeed, good, but the approach was...well. What else to expect from his brother?
The tall performer was just having the most wonderful dream, something along the lines of lying on a beach, on his own, no fans, no squealing, no unexpected hugging, when a too familiar voice interrupted the pleasant vision and yanked him back to the decidedly less comfortable reality of his caravan. "Rise and shine, dear brother of mine!" A second later, the curtains were drawn apart, no warning, no gentle coaxing, just a sharp sound and even sharper light.
Tugger grumbled and rolled over to his other side, covering his face with a pillow. "You monster. You cruel, cruel monster. How could you do that to a member of your family?"
Munkustrap chuckled and sat beside Tugger on his surprisingly wide bed. Count on the younger man, a known lover of long and comfortable sleep, to squeeze the widest bed possible into the caravan and seemingly defy the rules of space. "Why so glum? Our night mission was a success, you know. The two promising recruits were intrigued by your presentation and decided to visit us the first thing in the morning. They are currently at the entrance, Jenny dragged them over for a cup of tea. But they will definitely want to see the rest of our troupe and who better to show them around than the man who persuaded them to give this humble establishment a chance?" If Tugger didn't know any better, he'd suspect Munkustrap of being slightly mischievous.
"Good for you, oh mighty persuader...persuasion person...whatever." The pillow was not yet removed and the caravan owner was definitely falling asleep again. "Great job, Munk. 10/10. Now go and impress them even more."
But of course, the cruelties had no end. A firm hand yanked the pillow off Tugger's face and exposed his face to the morning light, bright and unforgiving. "Nothing of the sort, Tugger. You were the major factor of our success. In fact, you did so well on your own! You should consider ditching me more often. So off you go and be even more charming than you are now."
Still half blinded by the light, Tugger opened one eye and squinted at Munkustrap. "When did you get a sense of humour?"
Munkustrap smiled and stood up, preparing to leave. "I believe it was born when I saw you gaping at that young magician for not being impressed by you. Ah, one of my most cherished memories."
And before Tugger could react, the heartless man stole his blanket as well and not even a heartfelt "you're dead to me" helped. It truly was a horrible morning.
------
A lot of grumbling and swearing later, Rum Tum Tugger finally emerged from his caravan and made his way towards the circus entrance. Even Jenny's cheerful "Good morning, sunshine!" did very little to improve his mood and neither did seeing the two smiling siblings (well, the girl was definitely smiling, but the magician's face would hardly qualify as a smile - the corners of his mouth were very, very slightly turned upwards and his dark eyes never stopped watching their surroundings. A suspicious guy).
He leaned against a nearby tree and gave a slight wave at Jennyanydots, a mild-looking lady in her forties or fifties. Her copper hair, possibly but very elegantly dyed, glimmered in the morning sun. "I hope you slept well, dear," she winked at him. She had a squirrel sitting on her knee and two surprisingly tame pigeons on her shoulders. Given how calm the siblings looked, they probably had been explained what Jenny's gift was - everyone called it talking to animals, but Jenny insisted it was more of a telepathic connection and feelings exchange. Anyway, animals of all kinds loved her and she returned the love tenfold more.
"Morning Jenny. Spectacular siblings." He may have sounded a tiny bit sarcastic there, but no man should function on so little sleep. "Early birds, are you? I didn't expect to see you at this ungodly hour." And to Tugger's mild annoyance, the magician's smile visibly widened.
"Not at all, Tugger," he assured him while sipping his tea. "But your and Munkustrap's description of this place was so vivid and enchanting that we simply had to come and see as soon as we woke up."
We didn't sleep that well, Victoria admitted, silencing a yawn that almost found its way to her lips. We had too much to think about.
Tugger sighed and rubbed his forehead. "Yeah, well...if you didn't come, we would've found you ourselves. We usually don't get to share all the news in one go, otherwise people just...stare. And doubt. And then it ends poorly."
Noticing the confused glance the brother and sister exchanged, Jenny shot Tugger a disapproving look. "Really, dear. You make it sound so dramatic. No need to scare our new friends away." Turning back to the siblings, she attempted to reassure them. "You have to forgive him, my dears, he is always grouchy in the morning. But he is right. There needs to be a...slight follow-up, I'm afraid. There is something people usually don't react well to, especially when being visited by two strange men in the night."
Victoria's eyes were huge, going back and forth between Jenny and Tugger. What is it?
Quaxo was quiet for a while, staring into his tea. So many things seemed to be going through his head, Tugger was almost concerned he'd just grab his sister and leave. Perhaps it would have been better to tell them everything in one go, but with the past experience...who could have known there would be a single person who didn't appreciate a careful, gentle approach?
The dark eyes finally left the dark liquid, darting back to the tall performer with a surprising directness. "Well, since we're already here, we might as well hear all of it. What's so disturbing you couldn't have told us yesterday?"
Jenny patted his hand in a calming manner. "Please understand, Quaxo. It is not...disturbing as such, but some people, especially those who learn for the first time they are not the only ones with...certain gifts...do not take well being told that they may not be able to handle something. After all, we are all rather special. But some...in different ways."
We have already heard of Macavity, Victoria turned towards Jenny, confused. We already know he's dangerous.
Tugger sighed and the roll of his eyes would probably have been irritating, if he wasn't so tense. "Yeah, you...kinda don't. Not all of it, anyway." Silencing the complaint that was already making its way to Quaxo's lips, he continued. "Look, he runs a criminal group, that's what you already know. Quite a few of our kind are involved, that's what we also told you. But Macavity doesn't need to threaten to get his way."
Victoria was still frowning, not fully following, but Quaxo took a sharp breath and muttered, "He's one of us, isn't he?"
"Yes, he is," Jenny nodded. The reassuring smile left her face for a moment, making it look older and more tired. "Look, dears. From what I have heard, you know from your own experience that our gifts can often influence others, directly or indirectly. You," she turned to Quaxo, "can influence your surroundings. Tugger here is one of those who affect people's behaviour, they are more...willing to do what he wants without him even saying it. Such gifts can be dangerous if used selfishly. And Macavity has one that serves him too well in his activities. He has the gift of persuasion."
"For instance," Tugger interjected, "let's say that you go and meet him after your performance. You may know all these things, you are forewarned, you think you can just say no to him. Except when he speaks...things other people had told you don't mean anything anymore. Because he sounds so sincere, so bloody caring," he spat those words out with so much venom Victoria tensed in her seat. "In the end, you join him because you trust him. That is the danger of meeting him. Some manage to escape after while - he stops using his gift on them when they are no longer useful, because he finds it entertaining, to crush people's illusions. What a guy."
"Which is yet another one of his persuasion tactics," sighed Jenny. "If he cannot persuade you fully, he just uses his gift on others in your surroundings. I can't count all those who lost their jobs or homes because Macavity wanted them in his...group. They eventually join, either due to his persuasion or lack of options."
Tugger suddenly left his spot and leaned over the three of them. "Which is why you can't meet him today! You may have been able to somehow cancel my gift," he looked at Quaxo, who visibly froze due to the unexpected closeness, "but Macavity is something else. And I don't want to imagine what he'd do with the two of you. Telepathy and reality alteration. No wonder he wants you so badly."
The tense atmosphere was fortunately interrupted by Jenny who nudged Tugger's side, making him leap back and squirm. Quaxo noticed with a barely contained glee that the tall man might be ticklish. "Now now. You're not here just for tea and a morning horror story," she teased and blatantly ignored Tugger's look of hurt dignity. "Come on, let's meet the rest of the troupe!"
The siblings stood up and carefully approached the dark entrance to the circus tent, Victoria with barely contained excitement, Quaxo with his usual caution. The place might turn out to be their new home...or a trap. That was their usual conflict of personalities, Victoria hopeful and trusting, Quaxo...not so much. Still, he found himself wanting to believe these people, despite his better judgement.
"Oh come on, they don't bite!" growled Tugger and pushed them inside.

Summary: Events ispired to Avengers: Infinity War
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Stark!Reader
Warnings: I think it's appropriate to tell you that there will be some spoilers
Feedback is always appreciated.
Tumblr media
"Miss Stark?"
I look up from the paperwork on my desk; they know very well that when I'm working, I don't like being disturbed.
So, if Alex entered with a certain hurry – whit his face pale and sweaty – in my office, it means that something very serious happened.
"Alex, what's up?"
Alex continues to rub his hands, and this makes me feel more and more uncomfortable. By now, I have known him for many years, and I can decipher every gesture of his. I urge Alex to speak again.
"Something happened...to his brother, Mr. Stark."
I immediately stand up; I knew something was wrong, I felt it. Still, I spoke with Tony just this morning, and it sounded like it was all right.
I immediately go out of my office, and entering the car, I head for my brother's house. Sitting on the sofa in the living room, Pepper, who barely sees me, runs towards me, hugging me tightly.
"Pepper, what happened? Where's Tony? "
"We don't know. A man came out of... an opening, saying he wanted to talk to him. You know how Tony is, he immediately accepted, and followed him. From that moment... I haven't seen him again."
A man... who can ever be? After the fight between Tony and Cap, things seemed to be back to normal, but actually, it was chaos. Cap has escaped, and with him all the others, previously imprisoned in the Rift.
Nobody knows where they are, at least Tony believes so.
If my brother had discovered that I was – and I am still – in contact with Steve, Tony would complain as usual that I don't follow the rules, that I should be more careful, because the government could find me etc etc...
When he signed the Sokovia agreements, I was very surprised; Tony is the kind of person you can't give orders to, especially if is the government that gives orders. But after Ultron... he's completely changed.
Should I call Steve? Perhaps he sents the unknown man who took Tony. Or it's not that bad, and calling Steve would be an exaggeration.
I don't know exactly what to do; I can't think clearly right now.
Suddenly, I feel strange tremors around me, and a kind of a huge circle opens before me and Pepper; from the inside comes a person who I don't know.
I remain completely speechless, when I notice behind the stranger, another person.
Someone I haven't seen in a long time.
“Bruce?”
Pepper is surprised just like me, to see Dr. Banner; even though S.H.I.E.L.D. had lost hope, Tony was still looking for him. Nobody knew, except me, and Steve.
"Bruce! Where have you been? We've been looking for you... for years!" I say, hugging him.
He has completely changed; the haircut, and his face... looks a lot sadder. He must not have had a good time, in any place he has been.
"Y/n, it's nice to see you again. But we don't have much time, I need your help."
Bruce asks me to go with him – even if he doesn't seem to be asking me. He also seems to have changed character, behaving in a more authoritarian, and serious manner. It's no longer the old Bruce, who was afraid of losing control of his alter ego.
I turn to Pepper, and I tell her to find a safe place to hide. Tony has become much more paranoid lately, so much to create 'safe houses' all over the country, for situations like this.
Pepper tries to protest, she would like to come with me; she wants to know what happened to Tony, and I understand that. I want to find my brother as much as she does.
But Tony would kill me – literally – if I put Pepper in dangerous situations; he's already too worried about me. Fortunately, I'm as stubborn as my brother, and I managed to convince him to be part of the Avengers.
I don't wear 'Iron Man' style armor, but I learned a lot from the Black Widow, and now I can use bow and arrow, thanks to Hawkeye.
After convincing Pepper not to follow me and Bruce, I'm ready to enter into the strange vortex where Bruce came out, with the man – who has not said a word.
I wonder what's going on; my brother disappeared into thin air, and then Bruce reappears, after years no one had seen him.
"So, can you explain to me what's going on? Do you know where my brother is?"
The place where we find ourselves... is the Avengers headquarters; well, at least it was a long time ago. Now, it's just a structure that the government uses to give orders to its new 'soldiers', people with superpowers who have decided to sign the agreements.
While Bruce's unnamed friend disappears, my newfound friend walks quickly back and forth, rubbing his hands nervously.
"Thanos. Here's what happened. Thanos is looking for the Infinity Stones."
I have already heard about the Stones, relics almost as ancient as the universe, scattered in space. They are very powerful, and very dangerous.
"I thought Thor found them. He was looking for them, and..."
"Thor! I was with him when Thanos attacked us. I don't even know if... he's fine."
Bruce looks down, visibly frightened; Thanos is approaching the Earth, maybe Thor is...
And Tony has disappeared.
"One of the Infinity Stones was in London, it belonged to a sorcerer. He disappeared with Tony. Probably the followers of Thanos took them."
I close my eyes, I try to assimilate the Bruce's words, one by one; however, I can only think my brother, probably imprisoned in some spacecraft.
"He will come back; there are other Infinity Stones to be found, and one is on Earth."
All these events... it's happening too fast; we were not ready. Tony knew that. It was like a strange feeling for him, as if something horrible was approaching.
Oh, how he was right.
Bruce approaches me, placing a hand on my shoulder. He tries to console me, but it's not easy; about an hour ago, I was sitting at my desk, thinking about my work, and at Tony and Pepper's wedding. And now I'm here, with the end of the world around the corner, and without my brother.
"Y/n, we will find Tony. But now, we need reinforcements."
Bruce looks for something in the pockets of his jacket, then he takes a phone, which I recognize immediately.
"Tony gave me this. There is only one number, and I tried to call, but..."
"... it doesn't work."
Steve gave me the phone, the last time he and I saw each other; along with it there was a letter, and Steve had asked me to give it to Tony.
I did it; but Tony never called. Not that there was a need. However, I was hoping for a peace between the two, but nothing.
Actually, the phone... it was just a test.
For Tony. If he tried to use the phone, then he was ready for a surrender.
And I would be the one who would deliver the peace message to Steve.
But the years have passed; sometimes, I caught Tony looking at the phone, as if he were going to use it. But in the end he put it in a drawer and closed it.
"We must warn the others. Rogers, Vision, Fury, Hill... Natasha."
Bruce hesitates before saying the last name; she and Nat didn't leave on good terms.
Suddenly, a strange warning signal begins to sound; Bruce looks around, trying to figure out what's going on. I, on the other hand, know it perfectly: it's a call. In fact, in the center of the room, suddenly appears a hologram: it's the U.S. Secretary of State, Thaddeus Ross.
"Miss Stark. Dr. Banner, we've been looking for you for a while!" says Ross, visibly surprised by Bruce's presence.
Probably he called because he received the news of Tony's disappearance; what I wonder, is what his intentions are.
"Miss Stark, I'm very sorry for the disappearance of your brother. We will do everything to find him."
...liar. I know exactly how the government works; Bruce? They never really looked for him. They simply pretended to be nothing. Hulk has been just a problem for them, and the fact that he disappeared was just good. One less problem for the government.
"Sir. The problem is much more serious. Something... someone threatens our planet, and we need... reinforcements."
"Reinforcements? And for what, exactly? Tony Stark has disappeared. That's all."
I look at Bruce, completely shocked by the words of the Secretary; I wonder what he had done a few years ago, when he had to choose whether to sign the agreements or not.
On the other hand, I'm not at all amazed by Ross's words; it's not the first time that he has already looked the other way, before a threat.
He uses his 'soldiers' only for personal purposes.
"Are you joking, are not you? Thanos is always closer, and we have to protect people."
"The earth has been at peace for many years, Dr. Banner. There is no danger, since your group of heroes in disarray no longer exists. My orders are clear. There will be no reinforcements, for something that doesn't exist."
It's just as I expected; Ross, who refuses our requests. Fortunately, I have already done something.
"It doesn't matter, sir. I don't need his help, because I have already called mine."
I signed the Sokovia agreements, but only because Tony asked me – and Steve, too – for my safety.
However, even if I wrote my name on a piece of paper, it doesn't mean that I have to follow all the rules written on it.
Before Ross can speak, someone enters the room, and we all turn.
Steve stops in the middle of the room, right in front of Ross's hologram, obviously furious from Rogers's entry. The latter is accompanied by Nat and Sam, and behind them is Wanda, who holds Vision, clearly injured. I walk towards the two guys, helping Vision to sit down; I check his superficial wounds, and they look pretty serious.
Meanwhile, Steve talks to Ross, and when he understands that he no longer has control of the situation, more furious than ever, his hologram disappears, ending the call.
I breathe a sigh of relief; fortunately Steve and the others arrived just in time, or I think I would have sent a government agent to hell.
Steve approaches Bruce, and he greets him warmly; it's a long time since the two are not seen. The reappearance of Dr. Banner has more or less upset everyone, especially Natasha; in fact, the girl greets Bruce, but in a rather cold way.
Bruce tells the others what he has told me, and I feel the shivers running down my back; if only I think of Tony, alone in space, surrounded by enemies.
Steve tells us that they were attacked too, but that they managed to get away with it.
Despite me and Bruce trying to help Vision, he seems to get worse, probably due to some internal problem. So, Steve decides to warn T'Challa and go to Wakanda.
If they have healed Bucky from mind control, they will certainly know how to cure Vision.
Before leaving, we all decide to make some reforings. I head to my old room, maybe there are still some of my uniforms in the closet.
While I'm changing, I hear someone knocking on the door, and after giving permission to enter, I see Steve on the edge of the door.
Since he arrived at the base, we haven't even had time to look into each other's eyes.
I missed him a lot; the last time we met was about six months ago. Tony was busy with an Iron Man convention, and I could sneak out of New York, and spend a few days with Steve.
"Can I come in?" he asks me; the usual Steve, kind and polite.
"If you can? I wondered when you'd come."
He smiles, and approaches, then he wraps his arms around me.
Damn, just having Steve by my side makes me feel calmer. As if the world and its problems didn't exist.
"How are you?"
How am I? As if my brother had disappeared into thin air, and a crazy murderer is about to eliminate the whole universe.
"I just wish... Tony was here." I say, trying not to cry.
So far I have tried to maintain control, not to... bring me down, before all grieve for what has happened to my brother.
Being a good leader.
But now, here in the room, alone with Steve. The walls in which I am buried fall to pieces.
It seems to be going better when Steve puts his lips on mine; to my nervousness are mixed butterflies that are formed in my stomach. It's always like this, every time Steve touches me; I feel like a little girl in her first crush. I try to be a normal person, but with Steve – who, by the way, knows how I feel when he behaves this way – it's impossible.
"You know, as much as I find you damn sexy with the beard... it pinches."
Steve laughs, and kisses me again, exploring my face, then down the neck, and on the collarbones, teasing me, until I laugh.
"Steve, stop it. You tickle me!”
I hit him in the stomach, and he pretends to be offended, massaging his muscles.
That's how things should go; Steve and Tony making peace, my brother at home, my boyfriend by my side.
But we are about to leave, because a new war is about to begin, and my sixth sense tells me there will be losses.
Losses that will make everyone suffer.
Tumblr media
"Will it hold the barrier?"
Come to Wakanda? Let's say it was not a brilliant idea. Shuri, T'Challa's sister, is taking care of Vision, but in the meantime, dozens of alien spaceships have appeared in the sky.
T'Challa activated the barrier around the Wakanda boundaries, but hundreds, thousands of monsters, and anthropomorphic creatures emerged from the spacecraft.
"What the hell are they doing?"
Arrived in Wakanda, at least we found Bucky; Steve had warned me that he was much better, and seeing him again made me happy. I wanted to meet him in different circumstances.
When I found out that Bucky killed my parents... I was angry, but deep down, I had known it for a long time.
The Winter Soldier killed the people who hindered HYDRA's plans, and my parents were those people.
Even Tony knows that it's not really Bucky's fault... but it's Tony Stark that we're talking about.
"What the hell... what are they doing!?"
I follow Bucky's gaze; Steve, Nat and T'Challa tried to talk to the followers of Thanos, but it was useless.
"I think... they rush against the barrier to weaken it, so they can knock it down."
"Smart."
"Bruce. Dude, don't compliment the bad guys." I say to Dr. Banner, locked up in the Hulkbaster's armor. He uses that because... well, he and his alter ego are not much in tune after the fight with Thanos, and now Hulk prefers to hide; I didn't think he was so coward.
"If they continue like this, Wakanda will remain unprotected." Steve says, turning to T'Challa. He's right; the enemies seem to increase, and the barrier begins to flicker.
Then, T'Challa tells us to get ready, and he orders someone to lift a part of the barrier – the one in front of us.
The monsters enter, running like madmen towards us.
The war begins.
Tumblr media
Thor.
When we all saw him appear in the middle of the battle, we all breathed a sigh of relief. Bruce even shouted for happiness.
But if Thor's arrival made us rejoice, the arrival of someone else made us shudder: Thanos.
In all his size, he walks towards us, looking gloomy. He doesn't stop to watch the battle around him, he doesn't look for his henchmen.
He doesn't mind.
He only cares about the Mind Stone, in the Vision's forehead.
Each of us tries in every way to stop him, but with his glove, and the Stones that he already owns, for Thanos we are only tiny ants.
When he is in front of me, I know I have no hope; I'm probably going to die.
But before Thanos makes his move, he stops to look at me, as if I were his old acquaintance.
"Another Stark. You never give up, fight a war, even if you know you've already lost it, even before you started it."
Another Stark.
Thanos knows where my brother is; Thanos met Tony. However, he is not here now, my brother hasn't returned.
"Where is my brother? Tell me!"
"It doesn't matter. You will die anyway."
Before I can ask my brother again, Thanos takes a step forward and pounces on me.
I try to avoid the blow, but he manages to hit me on the right side. I sketch literally far from the ground, and I crash into something I can't understand what it is.
Instinctively, I press a hand on the wound, which is bleeding more and more. I look around, I see nothing; I must have also taken a blow on the head.
If until now I heard the sounds of the battle, all of a sudden, there is total silence.
I don't think I'm dead, or yes?
After a couple of painful efforts, I finally manage to get up from the ground; I take a few steps near the trees, towards... I don't know exactly where.
Right now, I would like Tony to be by my side; instead, he is missing somewhere, alone, without me.
"Y/n."
I turn around quickly – too fast, because I almost fall back on the ground – and I see a figure approaching me. When it's just a few steps away from me, I can recognize Steve; I literally throw myself into his arms, bursting into hysterical tears.
"Everything is alright."
"Steve. It hurts so much."
At the beginning Steve can't understand what I'm talking about, but when he looks down and notices my wound, I feel him shiver under the palms of my hands.
Wrapping the arms around my body, Steve lifts me off the ground, holding me like a bride.
"What happened? Where is Thanos?"
Steve continues to transport me, probably to the medical laboratories. I repeat the same question several times, but Steve doesn't want to answer me.
Something happened, and if Steve doesn't want to tell me, it's something horrible.
Tumblr media
Everyone is dead; almost all.
Bucky, Vision, Wanda, T'Challa...
Thanos arrived, and death sucked them like a chasm.
Next to my bed, there's Nat, sitting on a chair with the eyes closed; she probably stayed so long by my side that she fell asleep.
She told me what happened, just before I closed my eyes to rest.
I woke up about ten minutes, but the idea to get up can't take over; I can't get Thanos and his words out of my mind.
He didn't want to tell me where my brother is, but he didn't even say he died. So there is still hope that he's still alive.
I want to see Steve; I don't know where it has been since he left me in the operating room. I want to know how he is, after what happened; his friend Bucky died, once again.
It must not be easy for him to see an important person die, more than once.
But as soon as I try to get out of bed, Natasha's eyes widen, watching me.
"Don't even think about it, Y/n. You have to rest."
"I want to see Steve. Now."
"Now I'm going to call him, but you stay in bed."
Natasha leaves the room, and when I know she is far enough away, I get up. With a bit of effort, in the end, I can stand up – holding myself against the chair.
I barely approach the window leading to the terrace, I still feel very tired, as if Thanos was still throwing me against the tree.
"You should stay in bed."
I jump – almost falling to the ground – and when I turn around, Steve is already by my side, helping me get back to the bed and sit down.
"I don't want to stay in bed. I can do it."
"Really? I don't think so."
I roll my eyes; I know he's right, but I hate the fact that he's right.
But if before I was worried about my brother, now I can't think about anything else. Tony has not only disappeared, but after the devastation that led Thanos... many died, and Tony could be among them.
"Don't worry about your brother. He's probably building some armor to get home."
"Are you sure? Only a few days have passed, but it's as if months have passed. I can't go on without my brother. I need him by my side."
"Y/n, I know Tony is alive. I feel it, and you know it's like that too. He will be back very soon."
Although Steve tries to convince me, he can only calm me down a bit. Maybe he's right, and Tony's fine, or maybe he's wrong, and my brother – or at least his body – lies somewhere in the universe.
I hug Steve, while he helps me relax; I spent so much time thinking about Tony, that I completely forgot that he lost friends too. Bucky, Sam, Wanda, Vision, T'Challa. Thanos has razed half the universe, and left us with a void in the heart.
"I'm sorry. For our friends. We will find a way to bring them back."
"We will find a way to save everyone. Bucky, Sam... and Tony too. We will all save, as we always do."

okay so looking at tma fic in general and tma time-travel fic and the various ways they decide to resolve things has given me an idea for a time travel fix-it fic premise that, like, I almost certainly will never write because way too many writing projects but it is Haunting me so I need to blab about it somewhere
so clearly the way that the ‘time travel’ / ‘knowledge of the future’ bit works is that Jon stumbles across a book that he assumes is a Leitner but then there’s no name in the front cover so he opens it proper and oooh this is weird but it’s too late the compulsion has set hold and and reads it, oops
the experience of reading it is the experience of fuck-it-feels-like living the entire timeline of the show up through the end of episode 160
(actually all the way through When Jon Finally Dies if he ever does but the important bit is he gets that knowledge of the timeline)
(the book is channeling the power of the Ceaseless Watcher, it’s all about knowledge, although very specifically in my brain this book is something that future!Jon and future!Martin constructed and sent back, which still tracks because hey Archivist is an Avatar of the Watcher. it’s just important to me that this is active action as an attempt to prevent the apocalypse and not dumb luck)
so Jonathan Sims now knows his future and because I have strong opinions about memory/ personality/ what makes a person, has arguably just been replaced with his future self.
‘oh fuck’ Jon says
‘I ended the world so I gotta fix this’
but how does he fix this, because oops Elias is still stupidly powerful and is going to notice if anything is up so he can’t act weird
but he can’t bring anyone else in on this because he doesn’t want to Curse Them with such Angsty Knowledge
he is acting a little bit weird, Martin notices that he’s acting weird because he is now being nice to Martin
‘this cannot be how the universe exists, Jon is always mean to me,’ Martin goes. ‘like I want the universe to exist this way but Something Is Up With Jon and it would be selfish of me not to investigate just because Jon is actually being nice to me’
Martin stumbles across the book and reads it too
‘oh fuck’ Martin says and immediately goes and talks to Jon and Jon has terrible selfish mixed feelings because he missed his Martin but also didn’t want Martin to have to go through everything he went through but also now Jon is not alone in trying to figure out how to alter this timeline without Elias noticing
(’wait what gave me away,’ Jon goes)
(’you were being nice to me,’ Martin goes)
(’fuck I really do need to be meaner to everyone don’t I,’ Jon goes. ‘it’s just really hard I’ve had Character Growth and I don’t want to be an asshole again’)
(’well suck it up you’re going to blow our cover,’ Martin goes. ‘maybe you should have thought of that before Being An Asshole.’ he immediately feels bad at Jon’s Very Sad Face. ‘you weren’t actually that much of an asshole you were just under stress and prickly and didn’t realize that the people you weren’t appreciating could be people that you would lose and now you do and that’s fine but you gotta still treat them like you’re an Asshole.’)
(’fine,’ Jon goes.)
so now they’re trying to figure out how to stop Elias
but also their main priority is to stop Tim and Sasha from dying at this point and they kind of figure that Elias doesn’t know the timeline and as long as he’s getting what he wants which is naive Jon stumbling through interactions with Entities and getting marked but not killed, he won’t suspect anything, and he doesn’t know Tim and Sasha are going to die so that at least is something immediate they can fix
‘I want to murder Jonah,’ goes Martin
‘you are super valid but also Gertrude tried that and was 1000% more badass than any of us and she ended up dead so maybe we should concentrate on saving our friends like we’ve got a few years to figure out how to do that,’ goes Jon
‘fine,’ goes Martin
Tim and Sasha notice that something is up, OBVIOUSLY, because Jon was weird-nice for like a week and a half then is weird-mean like he’s actually trying to be mean and hates it, and has gone from brushing off Martin all the time to pretending to brush Martin off but obviously secretly pining
he also gives off feral apocalypse energy
Martin meanwhile is pulling this all off perfectly
he fooled Elias and Peter and everyone else back when he was faking out the Lonely, he can handle this
Elias does notice Jon acting weird and thinks this is a soap opera workplace romance gone wrong but because he hasn’t seen all of it as Jon and Martin have been very careful to be using Martin’s Lonely powers when they want to Actually Talk and make it look like they’ve just casually wandered off when Elias isn’t paying attention to them so Elias doesn’t actually look like anything is up, he calls Jon in for a ‘performance review’ to make sure
(Martin has Lonely powers and Jon has Archivist powers from the future and they can both feed off of the long terrible fears that they remember from the horrible horrible lives and deaths they and the entire world had in their own timeline, just give me this I need a plot device that can explain why they can Actually Talk to each other while not being able to use the tunnels)
anyways Elias starts his performance review and pokes about Martin
‘um yeah,’ Jon confesses. ‘I um had a very awkward conversation with Martin because it seemed like he was being nice to me and I asked him about his feelings and he Confessed to me that he Liked me and I was caught by surprise and was thinking about it for a few days because idk nobody ever Likes me but then came to my senses and um but also it’s totally inappropriate because I’m his boss and I told him and we’re trying to forget that the conversation ever happened and just go back to concentrating on the statements’
‘you seem very nervous right now,’ Elias goes
‘please do not report me to HR,’ Jon goes looking appropriately mortified and trying to remember everything Martin has been coaching him about lying by telling people what they want to hear. ‘I know I should have rejected him immediately it just caught my by surprise that he would actually Say It To My Face people have been saying a lot of honest things to my face it’s very weird and I know that I shouldn’t have run away from that conversation and acted Weird for a few days but I did come to the Correct Conclusion I am very devoted to this job and don’t want to do anything but this job and didn’t do anything with Martin we just had a conversation and I’m really trying to do a good job here and please don’t fire me’
‘nope you’re good that’s fine concentrate on your job,’ Elias says, quite satisfied that his Archivist is developing truth powers very quickly
Tim and Sasha are not so easy to fool
Tim and Sasha find the book
Sasha, who worked in Artifact Storage, is Actually Smart and goes ‘dON’T READ THAT’
Tim reads it anyways
‘oh fuck I die stopping the apocalypse’
Tim doesn’t seem to die from reading the book and doesn’t seem to change except for being given this foreknowledge but Sasha is Smart so she doesn’t read it. Tim does fill her in on her future.
‘oh fuck I die when a weird worm-lady attacks? and don’t even get to help with the apocalypse? that’s bullshit.’
they start their own little huddle conspiracy
which Martin immediately finds
‘nO YOU GUYS YOU GOTTA BE MORE CAREFUL TALKING ABOUT THIS STUFF’ Martin explains the future and methods of communicating without Elias watching, which is mostly him subtly hiding them in the Lonely
(’why do you and Jon have secret special powers that’s not fair,’ Tim goes)
(’because we went through literal hell??? and also didn’t die??? idk maybe if we keep you from dying you will also get special powers but seriously Tim they are very evil these are Evil Powers we don’t want them they just kind of happened to us in the process of trying to survive,’ Martin goes.)
‘so what is the plan,’ Sasha goes. ‘like besides us not dying how are you actually going to deal with the real apocalypse’
‘well we want to kill Elias but we haven’t figured that out yet because he’s watching our every move perfectly and if we’re not acting like he think we should act he’ll dispose of us and start again with a new Archivist,’ Martin goes.
‘okay but like in your story there is a part where Peter Lukas personally escorts you to the panopticon and tells you to kill Elias/Jonas and you go no and Elias wins the bet,’ Sasha says. ‘what if you just murder him then, he says he wasn’t going to stop you and if he tries you’ve got another Avatar backing you up’
‘huh we didn’t think of that,’ Martin goes. ‘why didn’t we think of that. I swear there is a Very Good Reason we didn’t think of that. um. uh. there’s also the problem anyone working in the Archives will die if he dies unless they are powerfully enough connected the Ceaseless Watcher which is like. MAYBE Jon.’
‘W H Y did you not lead with that,’ Tim goes
‘yeah I really agree you should have led with that,’ Sasha goes
‘this has been a very stressful time and we have been doing our best and right also everyone can quit they just need to blind themselves to do it,’ Martin goes. ‘or I guess pledge allegiance to a different evil god but that is really unpleasant you have to sacrifice fear to it or you starve’
(’okay why did you not lead with--’ Sasha goes. ‘I’m starting to really see some benefits for being an evil fear-monster,’ Tim goes. ‘Like we could be ethical evil fear-monsters. like ethical vampires. only scare really shitty terrible people who deserve it and, like, scare but not kill.’)
(Martin looks like he is about to cry.)
(’okay maybe not p l e a s e stop making that face I cannot stand your puppy-dog-but-also-on-the-verge-of-tears eyes,’ Tim goes)
(Sasha stops death-glaring at him as Martin looks slightly less like he is about to cry.)
‘so everyone loves rituals what if we, like. construct a secret ritual. that you’re saying Jon is dumb powerful chosen one Avatar right so let’s just, like. switch over being the ‘Heart of the Institute’ from Jonah to him. big proper paperwork ritual passing on of ownership claiming his position as Jonah’s heir or something,’ Sasha says
‘that seems like just the sort of bullshit that might actually work. Sasha you are the smartest person in the world and I’m pretty sure the apocalypse wouldn’t have happened if you had survived the Prentiss attack,’ Martin says
‘actually honestly Gertrude wanted you as her replacement that sounds very true and is probably why Elias didn’t choose you,’ Jon says. he has entered the room at this point as he was curious where literally all of his assistants had wandered off to. he does actually have work to get done the Archives are A Mess and Martin has been gone at this point for far longer than it takes to Make Tea so he figured something might be up and if there’s one thing he’s good at, it’s finding Martin in the Lonely
‘real rude to not let us in on this,’ Tim goes. ‘also are you SURE this is not a weird Leitner fucking with you’
‘we’ve obsessively kept track of the things that are supposed to be happening and they’re all happening on the right days and stuff,’ Jon goes.
‘okay so let’s stop like two apocalypses and not die,’ Sasha goes.
the rest of the fic is everyone subtly not-so-subtly trying to recreate the exact timeline while also making events Less Terrible while also trying to seem Not Too Competent
because this is a fic there’s gotta be adorable ridiculous fluff so everyone decides that the Cover Story in case Elias thinks people are acting weird has got to be Jon and Martin starting to secretly date
(Jon and Martin are in absolute h e l l over this and it is a hilarious comedy of errors because they didn’t tell everyone else that they got together they both decided that was too private so everyone else is aggressively trying to actually matchmake them through this all and they’re now too embarrassed to drop the act because Sasha has been giving them hell every time they have accidentally withheld information from her so it’s like. three layers of fake dating.)
(Elias decides all this drama is simultaneously the funniest thing he’s ever seen but also kind of a Bad Distraction and is subtly trying to break them up but doesn’t want to mess with things too much because he is Very Impressed with all the ‘progress’ Jon is making)
(Jon who is a complete badass and is mostly desperately attempting not to reveal all his powers)
(there are also a lot of different things that can go various ways. like do Basira and Melaine still join the Institute? I think they all read the book and make Informed Decisions about their futures but I have not decided yet what those Informed Decisions are. Daisy learns how to control Hunt powers without it overwhelming her, because Tim is totally right about it being possible to be an ethical fear-monster although as Jon and Martin can draw from the fear of the apocalypse-world they don’t really need it so it’s just a question of whether or not I want to give everyone else cool powers. we’re in a fix-it fic everyone gets cool powers without terrible consequences Because I Say So)
(Elias doesn’t give them trouble over this because he is delighted that he’s kind of collecting avatars of other Entities because it makes it really easy to make sure Jon has marks and he thinks this is his genius plan going even better than expected)
we get to episode 158
Martin really wants to dramatically kill Elias i m m e d i a t e l y but is waiting for a walkie-talkie signal that the ritual above is going as planned so he stumbles through all of the dialogue the same
“Then do it. Kill him and help me save the world.” Peter goes
Martin pauses in silence because oops there’s really not that much more Avoiding he can do
“No” Martin says.
Elias starts to laugh.
The Signal Comes Through
‘fUCK YEAH,’ Martin says. ‘F I N A L L Y. I am murdering him and I’m saving the world but this isn’t for you, asshole, and Imma deal with you next.’
stabbity stab
it’s very satisfying
‘okay but what do you mean it’s not for me, you’re supposed to sit in the chair and help me look for the Extinction?’ Peter goes
‘nah fuck that I’m from the future and I do what I want that was me stopping the Jonah Magnus’s final ritual,’ Martin goes. ‘you really think I fell for that Extinction bullshit you aren’t nearly as good a liar as you think you are, you stay right there and we’ll decide what to do with you when everyone gets down here it’s Jon’s Institute now and we’re both very pissed at you’
Peter tries to escape into the Lonely
it Does Not Work as Martin has More Angst than Peter to draw from so is Way More Powerful
everyone gets down there
ritual worked nobody died!
‘okay but why DON’T we try to look for the Extinction.’ Sasha says. ‘that seems to be a pretty important thing to stop.’
at this point everyone agrees Sasha has the best ideas
have I mentioned that every single female character is very gay for Sasha
quite frankly maybe Tim too
Sasha is a Badass and this fic portrays her as Gertrude Robinson’s Rightful Heir
she Deserves Good Things
and she is Gonna Stop All Future Apocalypses so actually going through with Peter’s plan is maybe not a terrible idea
they do the thing but in a careful way that traps no one in the chair and get the info
the Extinction is still very stoppable
there are lots of ways but honestly the best way to do it is to manipulate humanity into actually Being Better and not being on the brink of extinction
‘this is my Institute now let’s use it to fucking save the world,’ Jon goes
and they use all their knowledge and power to go from being a massive conspiracy about causing the apocalypse to being a massive conspiracy about bringing kindness and preventing wars and stopping the rise of fascism in politics and poking humanity from behind the scenes into something Better that can Rise Above its fears
and everyone lives happily ever after
but yeah this entire fic is around the premise of ‘what if the actual fix-it isn’t Change Everything To Stop Bad Things From Happening it’s Keep Everything The Same Until We’re Handed The Opportunity To Stab Jonah On A Silver Platter And Then Take It’ which I have yet to see a fic do and oops that kind of grew away from me there but anyways that’s it that’s the fic

Alola Forms don't make sense.
Exeggutor they focus upon, prod and poke in the classroom, solely because its mutation is the single example of logic in the olid morass.
It's become an unwieldy coconut tree, but excessive heat kills plants quicker than provoking a growth spurt.
Plus it's gone from Grass and Psychic to Grass and Dragon.
Why?
It's based on the dragon tree.
How is that applicable to the situation?
Why would Exeggutor's body, sensing the sweltering surroundings, think to itself:
This calls for a type change. I know: Dragon!
It would only be of use if, as in real life, dragons always breathe fire, thus possess supreme resistance to avoid auto-immolation.
Except that in this world, dragons aren't Fire Pokémon, thus it is pointless.
The sun nurtured its secret Dragon powers.
By 'secret' you mean nonexistent before the Seventh Generation.
Not much point in having 'hidden talents' if they're usable only in a specific point on the globe.
I could take it that Exeggutor's brain boiled like the egg it once was, with Psychic abilities atrophied...
Eh? You mean Alola both destroys and creates magic minds?
It's because of its diet.
But for the fact that Raichu now has them instead.
What, those special floating berries no one else ever consumed?
What really helps is natural endurance, something to aid a Pokémon's survival in the Alola climate.
The most obvious ploy would be for all of 'em to transform into Fire-types. No element is better equipped to thriving there.
How is flying through the air, levitating on his own tail, a response to the tropics?
How does this combat horrible conditions?
If you've got an inferno in yer innards a little excess warmth from the outside won't prove too taxing.
But no:
It goes to a hot country, for which it is suited, and its method of adaption is to develop a weakness instead!
Oh, but it probably lives in the snowy mountains.
You mean a Fire Pokémon, on arrival, decides the best thing is to deeply inconvenience itself by scaling the local peak, risking freezing to death, just waiting for blessed alteration?
Vulpix in Alola becomes Ice!
How did the first example there know it'd happen?
Come on Vulpix! Time to evolve! I spent me life savings on a Fire Stone! Oh...
And Ninetales is a Fairy, as if that boosts its chances.
What part of a suffocating island chain encourages the flourishing of more ethereal qualities?
Maybe if Ice, it cools yer down. The heliocentric Hell hole is taking its toll on the rest, but you exude chilly relief.
Why is it still furry then? Those tails are burden enough.
The other category with an inbuilt sturdiness is probably Ground. A habitat of molten earth and arid wastelands render one accustomed to baking beneath unforgiving weather.
Marowak had the right idea, following my advice and turning Fire, but he lost Ground in the process.
How is that an improvement?
Sandshrew and Sandslash converted to Ice and Steel, both of which melt in flames!
Why would sand on floor, in the trees, in the air even, blown to town by beach-skimming sirocco winds, wear away the Ground in him?
Absurdly, as a Ghost, seems the evolution rites are now so traumatic to a Cubone it dies on the way.
What kind of madness is this?
That's nice, innit? Kick 'im when he's down!
Diglett's sprouted a few comb-over strands and Dugtrio grows a full mane.
Of course it does. Everyone knows hair follicles are stimulated into overdrive by sweating.
Yeah, ones it didn't have in the first place.
And whilst Exeggutor's extra height is the feasible result...
Geodude and its evolutions not only lose their protective Ground type in favour of redundunt Electric, they all have jumbo eyebrows and hairy heads, arms and top lips.
That's the iron filings attracted to his new magnetic aura.
Rattata and Raticate sport moustaches whilst being fried in the fur by a heat-absorbing black coat.
Apparently the sensible thing to do when faced with burning skies is give oneself greater susceptibility to its draining effects.
Good job, now it's worse off.
What's the other aspect of this equatorial location?
The blinding, omnipresent light.
Well Rattata and Raticate, exposed to the sheer incandescent force, naturally bowed to convention to become Dark, the obvious reaction.
That's how you survive the furnace of Alola.
It might do. Perhaps changing to Dark is like a tan. Your body protects itself with it to limit the damage of the sun's rays.
Of course it is, and they kindly arranged themselves in limited amounts as manly additions, rather than coat him in a thousand spikes all over like a sea urchin.
Absolute blackness is bound to block out much of the harm.
And the facial hair? What assistance is that providing? And what of everyone else?
Grimer and Muk also went Dark, which is what happens should you leave the gloomy, nocturnal, poisonous factorial pit of Gringey City for the fresh air and clean beaches of Alola.
New shades of sludge are down to all the interesting variety of refuse it consumes.
What, a load of scotch pancakes?
Oh-oh! I knew arrogant Alola held a supreme fondness for praising itself, but now they've the nerve to claim better junk than us!
Yeah, it ain't just enchanted fruit, Alola is so orsum even its trash is superior to ours, since it produces coloured effects.
Either that or locals use a lot of industrial-strength synthetic dyes, more than they choose to let on.
Reminds me of the Good Old Days in the North when children would play by the canal, fall in, and come out blue, and no one thought anything of it at the time.
One wonders why every living thing isn't Ice and Dark, give that these types apparently work wonders for the host.
At least Rattata, Grimer etc. kept their original types.
Meowth and Persian were so consumed by the miasma of overflowing darkness they stopped being Normal altogether.
That's right, and the crushing gravitational weight of those wormholes bursting out all over squeezed their heads until permanently disfigured.
Anyone else recall that Meowths are naturally quadrupedal, being cats, and that our Meowth achieved his rear-legged stance only from a year's worth of strain, beatings, failure and agony?
Yet Alola Meowth gets it handed to him effort-free, with the achievements of ours diminished in the process.
Here we are then: a land of simmering sultry pressure causes foreign Pokémon to become Ice (cold, hard, unfeeling), whilst its constantly illuminated and long days made 'em Dark (crafty, self-serving, evil).
And so hirsute, like they're desperate for disguise, however much they suffer in the process.
After all, when incest is not only legal, but obligatory, what won't you condone?
Did we complain? No, because we were glad of what we had then. Not like kids today.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What exactly lurks beyond the superficial, ever-grinning, unblinking façade of Alola?
Something's gotta be going on behind the plastic smiles to encourage such a bizarre trend.

Treasure Ch. 1 (Penntin)
(Ao3)
Pairing: “Penny” Adiyodi/Quentin Coldwater, past Penny/Pearl Sunderland, past Quentin/Alice Quinn, background Margo & Eliot
Fandom: The Magicians (TV)
Length of series: who knows
Warnings/tags: magic (like duh), universe alterations, canon divergence (obviously), spells gone wrong, magic rituals, slow build, enemies to friends to lovers, first kiss, first time, snuggling and cuddling, Penny is very physically affectionate believe it or not, attempted humor, fluff, angst, smut, happy ending
Summary:
Quentin fucks up a spell (Penny may or may not have also helped/hindered).
Quentin is the reason Penny can’t see unless he’s hugging him and also why everything smells like the Bog of Eternal Stench.
Quentin’s run-amuck brain brings all sorts of problems to the table.
Quentin is starting to make Penny feel funny in his chest (and his pants).
Fuck Quentin, man.
Author’s Notes: I’m nearly through season one and am also not willing to put in hours of research on this universe’s magical rituals, so -- keep that in mind, I guess. That being said, I am in LOVE with this show and also this pairing. 78 stories on ao3?!? Fair, but sad…. I am falling hard and fast for Penntin (idk the ship name). So I had to write out everything in my brain. So here. Plays off of some the other fics on here, particularly “Practical applications of falling in love” -- kudos to you, @echomoon, that was amazing and I can’t stop thinking on the concept!!
----------
The smell was everywhere. It burned through Penny’s nose like it had a personal vendetta against every single one of his nostril hairs (which, it had been kindly pointed out a few years ago by a bitch who will remain unnamed, numbered quite a few. Especially visible when underneath him, which almost everyone was in this apparent plane of Hobbits. Right, moving on. Bitch.)
He covered his nose with his hands, then the scarf wrapped loosely around his neck - purple silk, today - but the smell just kept coming and coming until he was nearly choking.
In the back of his mind, Penny could feel the waves of panic, frustration, and disgust coming off of Quentin fucking Coldwater in a mixture much similar to what he was feeling. More panic, or course, cause the guy was a walking circus accident, and some various streams of babbling mind diarrhea lamenting about the awful smell. Surprisingly, the guy had a vocabulary Penny could almost be impressed by. But he was much more focused on himself and his dying nose, no matter how insistent Quentin’s feelings were.
And Penny would like to point out that he never willingly associated with that geek. It was always outside forces convening to push them together, whether in a study group or room assignments or the weird-ass plot against their lives that somehow connected Mothman and cursed daggers and creepy pedaphilic authors (that he would have liked to punch in the face).
Of course, that ever-present, invisible asshole (fate, god, the Dean; what did he care?) pushed them together yet again with more disastrous results.
Like them being together in the same room at all.
Like them being paired up to do spell work.
Like them fucking it up.
The disastrous fucking results he just knew were going to happen were, apparently, this smell. He had scented some pretty bad (literal) shit in his lifetime, but nothing compared to the absolute atrocity that was Quentin bungling a simple ass locator spell.
“Oh, my god!”
And that was the fucking idiot, desperately clutching his ever-present baggy shirt over his face like it would do some good against it. Magical stenches did not, as it appeared, let themselves be blocked out so easily.
Penny rolled his eyes - watering like a baby’s, he might add - and made his way over to a window on the backside of the class, pounding at the frame with his fist when it wouldn’t fucking budge.
Stupid Quentin, going and burning his nose because he couldn’t fucking concentrate on anything other than Alice’s tits. Bet he had something to do with the stuck window, too.
“Come ON, fucking open!” Penny muttered.
He was desperate for fresh air. He would beg and cry if he had to - his eyes were already crying, and also did he mention fuck this? - but he just needed this goddamn window to open up, so if he could just get the latch to jiggle a little more to the left-
Aha! Fresh air!
Penny stuck his head out of the window and breathed in deeply, opening his mouth as wide as it would go like a dog on a car ride. He gulped and drank in the life-giving oxygen -- but, but it was-
“-ON’T PENNY! GET AWAY FROM THERE!”
Ugh, Quentin. Trust him to fuck up not only the air inside the classroom but the whole fucking campus as well. He would have to be funding the entire infirmary at this point.
Sighing (and then retching), Penny pulled back to shut the window and noticed something real fucking peculiar. And creepy.
Either he had been blinded by the horrible smell - and it was that bad, he wasn’t immediately discounting the theory - or a thick fucking fog had rolled in while Penny wasn’t paying attention. Cause he couldn't see anything. All across his field of vision was grey -- actually, it was more of a murky blue than grey, and it was moving at a surprising speed for having no conceivable end to it. And it was so thick (like Quentin, god Penny was going to fucking kill him).
“Penny! Please get away from the window!”
Quentin was pleading with him now, and Penny almost felt bad about how scared he sounded -- not entirely, though; that voice crack was hilarious. Idiot fucking deserved to be scared. Look what he had done!
He turned around to tell him just that, except for, uh, he couldn’t see him. The fog was in the room.
The podium near Penny’s left side was a vaguely visible outline, and the front lab table even less so -- man, don’t even get him started on the desks and chairs. There was nothing. He could be in Fillory for all he knew- oh. Hell to the fucking no.
“Quentin!” He roared, “Where the fuck are we?!”
“Wh- what do you mea-- here! We’re in class! Where the hell are you?”
So that was a relief, if a disappointing one (those were called oxymorons, right? Fits. Quentin was a moron who was causing him to run out of fucking oxygen.)
“I’m by the window, dumbass! Trying to get some fresh fucking air, cause you fucking destroyed it all and replaced it with dog shit!”
This is worse than dog shit.
Oh god-fucking-damn. He did not need Quentin’s thoughts right now. Penny carefully moved forward, sweeping one foot in an arch across his path before he stepped down.
He figured Quentin was doing the same, because he heard the rambling oh fuck what was that where am I where’s Penny I’m such an idiot oh my god was that a rat streaming through his head as Coldwater, clearly, let all his wards down in an effort to fully concentrate on navigation and breathing.
This once, Penny couldn’t quite blame him for devoting all of his energy to the task at hand instead of blocking him off -- but it was still annoying. He was so good at concentrating and yet Quentin managed to get into his brain clear as glass. And he was so fucking annoying.
“Fuck, Coldwater! Shut the hell up!” Penny sighed and paused, running a hand over his hair. The waves of panic were increasing. “Just stay where you are and I’ll come to you. But stop thinking, please.”
“Yeah, okay- oh! Ow, fuck…”
There was a loud crash and then Quentin's pained noises as he clearly ran into some sort of furniture. Penny sighed again. What idiot had let this guy anywhere near a spellbook? (Nevermind how powerful he occasionally was -- that didn’t make up for stupidity.)
Penny breathed deeply - the one meditation practice he admitted could help, if only to calm him down - and kept making his slow way across the room. He was pretty sure that he was in the center of the room now, but he also knew that not being able to see made distances seem much longer than they were.
He took another step and ended up tripping over the same goddamn chair Quentin had apparently ran into, because his body landed on another guy’s that made a pathetic “ow” noise again.
“Jesus Christ, Quent, you could of at least picked yourself back up off of… the…. floor,” he slowly trailed off, looking around.
There was no more fog. There was no more burning smell. The classroom was exactly like it was before they had started the chant -- empty desks and chairs left behind by all the people who didn’t have slow idiot’s for lab partners, wood paneling that tried and failed to look classy, and the front lab table covered in various magical instruments.
“What the hell?”
Quentin sat up underneath him - as much as he could - rubbing his nose and sniffing deeply. Penny agreed. The air felt amazing, like a soothing balm on his poor, abused air canals.
He quickly realized that there was still a geek that was responsible for all this mess half-lying on the floor underneath his body, and that someone could walk in at any moment. So that was un-fucking-desirable, in multiple ways (ugh, Quentin. Just thinking about him made Penny shudder.)
With a quick brace of his arms, Penny bolted upright and took several steps away from the nerd -- back into the fog and the awful smell.
“Ah!”
He looked around, confused and pissed off. Was this some kind of joke the kid was trying to pull on him?
Penny tried to do a simple fire spell, then again, and again; each time more desperately than the last. Nothing. It was like the fog was muting his magic -- it was curling in scarily tentacle-like clouds around his hands, engulfing them in dense smoke and snuffing out any sparks he could have produced.
Now Penny was panicking a little.
He was still mostly pissed off, mostly- extremely pissed at Quentin, possibly more than he ever had been before, and frustrated with just a twinge of panic at the absence of his magic; the opposite of the nervous nellie probably still huddled around a chair leg on the floor.
Something grabbed at his foot, and, suddenly, the smell and fog had gone away again. He could breathe and see and there was a rather large flame coming from his hands, a culmination of the previously snuffed flames all working together to express his rage through fire.
When he looked down, Quentin was actually clinging to his foot, not a chair, and looking very nervous. What was new. Penny tried to kick him off and succeeded after a moment, the blueness invading so suddenly he didn’t even notice the smell for a second.
Then it was gone, again - he was gonna get whiplash from this shit - and Quentin was hugging his leg, again. This time he looked more sheepish than nervous, and it made Penny want to kick him in the face.
(Ch. 2 on Tumblr)
“I, uh- I think that the fog and the smell only happens when we’re not touching each other.”
What.
Well, it made sense considering the last three minutes of god dicking with the light switch - not to mention Quentin’s history of idiocracy and miss-castings, but-. Come on.
“Coldwater, I. Am. Going. To. Fucking. Kill. You.”

Note
for the fic meme thing, and here I hope no one has asked this: 1, 17, 26, 28 :'D
I had barely any time yesterday for this, so I’m finishing these off now! Be prepared for a long one!
1. Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic.
My comfort zone is probably Season 8 canon divergences, at this point. The easiest things I’ve ever written for this pairing have been my “we should kind of forget about season 8″ series stories. They always flow the best, and they’re the quickest to finish once I actually get rolling. There’s a certain amount of bitterness still left in me after Season 8, and so it’s easy to take little jabs at it and keep the tone light and fun even when I’m working with some angsty plots.
I also never thought I’d say this, but: high school/college AUs for Jaime/Brienne are really comfortable for me, too. I mean it’s a tested and true formula: ugly girl and handsome guy. Except Brienne is actually ugly and not just “cute but weird” or wildly unpopular because she has glasses and slightly frizzy hair? I love playing with that!
17. Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?
Start to finish, absolutely. I tend to flesh out the plot beforehand, so I don’t even do much rearranging once the story is actually done!
26. Do you beta yourself? If so, what kind of beta are you?
Does this just mean do I edit my own works? Because yes lmao. I’m very self-critical. I’m an editor irl (technical editor, so like the most boring form of editor), so I tend to be really rigorous with my editing. I write on my phone, so the formatting is all wack and I’m not super careful with typos (especially since I just got a new phone for the first time in 4 years, so my typing is all off!!). My editing schedule is therefore:
1st Pass: format in Word, fix super glaring typos from my clumsy fingers typing on my phone
2nd Pass: content edit. This is typically the most intense edit. This is where I fix story issues or add scenes when I realize that I’m not clear enough with something/want to add more detail. This typically adds a LOT of words to my process (HCM was 197k at the end of the first draft, and it got to almost 300k during the second pass)
3rd Pass: Phone Edit. I typically download the whole story onto Word on my phone (or, with HCM, a few chapters at a time, because otherwise the scrolling is impossible because it’s sO LONG). I’ll read through the chapter and add MORE detail, MORE content. Usually this is just spicing things up a little bit, adding some variety or some humor or more details. Or jazzing up my sentences/rewording things that feel stale or boring. The brief flashback scene in HCM where Robb thinks about he, Sansa, Theon, and Jon playing in the godswood was a Phone Edit addition. I’ve found that editing it on my phone helps because I typically read fic on my phone, and sometimes the change of medium does wonders for my edits (this is why I typically print out drafts of my novels to read them on paper after I’ve done a computer edit, but i’m not doing that for fic! So the phone it is).
4th/5th pass: sometimes only a 4th is needed, but on occasion I go for a 5th. Most HCM chapters get a 5th pass, because anxiety, and I think Two Halves had a lot of 5th passes as well. 5th pass is typically if I’ve received feedback for earlier in the story, and I read the Phone Edit and realize that I “need” to incorporate the feedback into the 4th edit. So I add/alter whatever scenes I need to, and then I give myself a few days and then re-read the chapter for a 5th edit so I can make sure it’s fine. Whichever is the last edit, I read aloud to myself, and then I post it when I’m satisfied. The Robb + Jon scene at the end of the last chapter was altered due to feedback, so it only went through the 5th pass, and I think it definitely shows. I was eager to get the chapter up and announce the hiatus so I could relax lmao.
28. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
Oh god, okay
@agirlnamedkeith writes stories that I’m always almost immediately invested in (usually because she mentions them ahead of time, so i’m already frothing at the mouth for them by the time she posts!) We also have a lot of the same vibes and a lot of the same opinions, so sometimes it’s like “oh wow she’s writing this SPECIFICALLY FOR ME SOMEHOW”
@slipsthrufingers, despite bullying me about the one time I made the best of a horrible choice between two men, and despite having read my old fic 10 years ago, is another one of my faves. She excels at both humor and softness, which are my two favorite things, and I get sucked into her chapters so easily, and can picture everything so vividly! I’m not even usually a “visual reader”, if that’s even a thing, but with her stories I always am.
@ddagent‘s longer fics are genius, and the speed and gut-punching quality to her prompts means that I can read them quickly at work and get a quick boost of that serotonin. One thing I like about my own fic habits in this fandom is that I’ve covered a lot of different AUs, so imagine how much I love the variety of her catalog! There’s something for everyone there. Lord Commander Jaime is a particular favorite, but I will never shut up about those Secret Santa kids.
ask me questions!
