Keep in mind that i havent finished MDZS yet but I'm just!! Wei Wuxian is so interesting!! He generally tries his best, has a strong moral compass and although he sees the logic behind utilizing the dark arts, he vows to never do it again until he's thrown into Yilling, practically vibrating with resentment himself, then he decides that this is another means he can use to avenge his parental figures and help his siblings. But at the same time he's aware he doesn't look like a good person because he's committing a taboo, but when did anyone expect good things from him? Madame Yu never did, the love he got from his uncle was always overshadowed by the fact that he's not his dad but everyone THINKS he cheated on his wife and had him on the side AND ALSO his love harms his brother! So there's potentially guilt there, and then he gets expelled from Gusu so, that's that, his own brother blames him for his parents' death, they don't know where their sister is, they lost their home... All because, in his eyes, he spoke back against his sister's future husband when he badmouthed her! He's fiercely loyal to the people he loves, but he doesn't necessarily expect them to be loyal to him and will let them go when he starts being trouble (see: jiang cheng telling him he couldn't protect him anymore if he took the Wen people in and him being like "yeah. makes sense. go do that", or when his sister defends him in front of most of the Lianling Jin clan and he's super surprised she did that). Nobody expects anything good from him and he always fucks up regardless, so he might as well do what he thinks is right with whatever means available, even if it's morally questionable, even if it hurts him in the process.
AND THEN Lan "come back to gusu with me" Zhan. "Straight edge" Lan Zhan, "perfect" Lan Zhan, Twin Jade Lan Zhan. Follows all 3000 rules of their clan. Accepts a beating because he briefly stepped out of Gusu at night, even if it was because he was tricked by Wei Wuxian. This guy now wants to bring him back to Gusu! What is Wei Wuxian gonna think, that he wants to help him? Hell no! Obviously Lan Zhan, perfect as he is, must be thinking about bringing him back to "the light" and that's why he wants to take him back to Gusu, to punish him and purify him until he is back to "normal". But can't he see that this is what he's always seen as anyway? A menace, a disgrace, no matter how much he tried to do things the proper way. Plus Lan Zhan clearly hates him, right? Why wouldn't he also think the worst of him? "Come back to Gusu with me" to make another failed attempt at making him perfect and tame, like him.
#evelyn stuff#mdzs#and of course for lan zhan it's not 'let me fix you because i think you are a bad person#it's 'im scared for you'#it's 'youre hurting yourself and you will hurt people you care about if you continue'#it's 'i agree with you but i cant see you get hurt'#it's 'against everything I've been taught and what's expected of me i love you and i want to protect you. please let me'#normal! im normal#mdzs spoilers#i suppose!

Could you write something about your dnd character/s? Love hearing about other people's ocs!
hehe i finally have a moment to answer >:3c this is gonna be long so im gonna get a read more involved
my only character thats actually from dnd (my online group plays other ttrpgs) and "active" (we played two sessions 3 months ago ;w; but! might play again) Is Yeshe :3
Its a mdzs inspired campaign... im pretty sure, i havent watched it... so i based her off of tibetan folk clothes and ofc off of a pallas cat. She hadnt had time to shine as a character yet and her backstory and motivations are bit murky =w= but the gist is that she takes care of her magically gifted little sibling (another player character, my sketch attached), they were raised in a remote commune and are now going to the big city.
Now, the character from a finished campaign of City Of Mist (really cool system!!!) thats been on my mind a lot recently is my beloved Theooooooo
He was originally an oc completely detached from any specific setting, then I put him with my beloved Rochelle (in the blue dress, she started out as a dnd character but got only like 2 sessions back in 2020 :'3) in my own version of feywild (ill get to it later).
And then!!! I decided to play him in that CoM game and it was the best decision everrrrrrrrrr he was so so so so sos ososoosososos fun :3. CoM is urban fantasy where people become "rifts" for mythical beings and are able to use their power.
Theo was a Detective and a Fey and i really enjoyed playing an absolutely devious, controlling and charming guy =w=. His main motivation was power, he thought most people (except for his wife rochelle altough they have a tomshiv thing going on) are beneath him and mostly there for him to order around like chess pieces. And something that made this campaign insanely fun for me was that in order to get more powerful he had to do a task for the fey queen - kidnap and deliver a singer to her. A singer which also happened to be the person we had to protect during our investigation... dm and me kept it secret.
It was so insanely fun to walk into every scene thinking of how to find an opportunity to do that... in the end I managed to, in a very tense scene (the greyscale sketch at the top, the girl smiling behind theo is one of the fey messangers). The other PCs didnt stop him because they had some trust in him... got away with it completely :3. Tho I agreed not to play him in the next campaign (even tho id love to >_<) bc his jig was kinda up. Great character tho, and thanks to my dm i finally get warlocks, i might play one sometime!
Now, still in the city of mist im playing Valerie :3
Her mythos is "Vampire" but she refuses to drink blood... she gets all sorts of issues bc of that, has trouble keeping down frineds and jobs ect... Still very early in the campaign but shes pretty fun :3 tho i prefer chracters who are a bit more commanding, i made her more of a follower to let my group breathe after theo but i kinda naturally fell back into organising the party again last session so i think i just need to stick to making charismatic characters next time sidugfsd. shes a nice change of pace tho, im excited for whats in store for her.
My feywild!!! It's a setting ive had in my head ever since i made Rochelle, Its sort of an early modern france mixed with Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell which sounds pretty lame and ig it is isudgfsd.
Theres a lot of ideas and a lot of characters that i dont really have time to develop and am prolly gonna rework a million times =w= but its fun, and its fun to make plalists for random archfey.
Last character I'll mention =w= even tho i never got to play him because the campaign fell apart before the fist session, as they often do, I really love Byk and I wanna show you guys...
Tadeusz Byk born in 1880 in Poland, Emigrated to the usa (boston then moved near new york) with his mother and grandma when he was 13... Operates a temporary house for immigrants that his mother started. Now 40, works as a tailor and sells moonshine on the side. Depressed, repressed and with a big heart... hope i get to dust him off for something someday...
#barking#ask#I bet this is very unpleasant to read forgive me ive dyslexia and had to write it without autocorrect#if you guys are curious about any of em feel free to ask ^_^ also i have a million more ttrpg ocs so if you wanna see some more lemme know#i tried to stick to some relevant to dnd ones sdugsd#except for byk i just know you guys like old man yaoi#he got that hat from a childhood friend he had a thing for... all very tragic

okay my beloved mutual has almost finished the untamed now I get to be specific!!!
the untamed may have needed to do all the flashbacks in one chunk for the sake of a smooth translation from book to screen however I will forever remain attached to the pacing of mdzs for many specific examples the first of which being the even distribution of Lan Sizhui, Certified Good Lad and the second of which being the one that is forever in my heart!!! is when wwx, after multiple books of never so much as alluding to this, devotes ONE SENTENCE of internal monologue to A-Yuan's existence. we get nothing more than (a) wwx had a son and (b) if he was still alive he'd be a teenager by now
which is of course a MASSIVE bombshell to drop before we get the burial mounds/yllz flashback and which has you counting years and looking ahead to the amount of flashback time we havent covered yet (not much, and none that doesnt promise tragedy based on the allusions in the present) and then which has you considering the options for how wwx came to have and lose a child (none of them good), and has you considering the latter especially in the face of the fact that wwx apparently cannot bear to even touch the concept of his child even in the privacy of his own mind (exceptional character moment. also fucking devastating)
and then it might have you reconsidering that wwx died in the "siege of the Burial Mounds," which does make sense just on the bare fact that he is a demonic cultivator and that's where he would be the strongest, but also like. why a siege? -> theoretically he could have used the resentful energy to shore up his defenses and escape -> so why was his last stand a siege specifically? -> why couldnt he have run? -> what was he protecting? -> oh no. oh god
feel like pure shit just want to see lan sizhui again... the untamed pacing structure why must you torment me so
#mdzs#i cant think.too hard about the Wen refugees or i WILL cry#i just think mdzs's pacing is neat!#aiden.txt

Hey question is the live action MDZS generally considered good because uh. Hm. Might have some thoughts contrary to that.
#mdzs#the untamed#mxtx#now i havent finished mdzs yet#been busy as shit#but that opening chapter is a really good way to set up intrigue#it sets the tone well#im not sure how i feel about the live action adaption#i feel they should have gone in a different direction#it works in book because you can have that downtime to explain shit#you dont need to describe the battle you can just say there was one and that wei wuxian died there killed by jiang cheng#picking it up you think 'oh okay who is wei wuxian why is it good hes dead who's this jiang cheng guy'#and if you've read the back cover you know that wei wuxian is your protag so its like 'oh but how is this gonna work.#what has wei wuxian done thats so wrong?'#AND THAT CARRIES YOU THROUGH THE BOOK#ITS TEXTBOOK#SVSSS as much as i love it is very obviously a 'first book'#theres nothing that really makes you want to keep reading past the first chapter unless someone else has#and has recommended it#svsss is good it just has some structure issues that come from being an early work and its fascinating following an author through#their career#seeing how they improve#which makes me sad that the untamed seems not to carry this hook through#and have it be something that would grab the audience for a tv show rather than an audience

i cant believe i would ever get here but i did NOT expect to care about mdzs/untamed so much that the story is literally living in my head rent-free as of now.

ME#who's the bitch. despite not liking chinese fantasy. is still very much into Chinese historical fiction since a child? ME#'mdzs is interesting but i wouldnt be that interested in it. it's labelled as yaoi and im not into xian xia/xuan huan--'#oh honey you got a big storm coming#mae overshares#as of now im in a mood where i wanna read. all i can find on fairies/elves/fair folk in pre-christian european myths#AND i also wanna find all i can read on gods/xian/yao/gui guai in chinese myths and legends#AND all them chinese poems. i have been meaning to get my hands on some chinese poetry anthology for some time now#im feeling a bit insane right now not gonna lie lmao#but right now i only got readings on gothic literary/film traditions (bc of my thesis). not that im complaining i like the topic#but oof. when i finish this damn paper. it's over for you all.#when i finish this paper AND start posting art. there will be elves AND these moffos from mdzs#i have like way too many comic/art ideas in my note pad. even more now with the mdzs additions. i cant let them rot there

I really wanna do a full review of the drama now that I have finished it for over a week now. I feel like for first time chinese drama viewers CQL is a good drama to start with. Or honestly for people who are just trying to enjoy the different adaptations of MDZS, CQL is actually decent and it tells us MDZS in a different way which i find is more emotional. I think its interesting bc we have the novel itself, the main source, the drama cd that provides us a lot of emotion, action, but theres no visuals. the donghua provides us with a lot of well-animated action sequences which is really cool, but it slightly lacks in the romance aspect since WWX was more independent and more dominant there. Maybe not yet tho sicne we are still only halfway through the story in the donghua. Manhua seems like a less serious version of everything, mostly for the cute WWX chibis and some romance portrayed. But then again we havent gotten far for the manhua too, the angsty parts have not started :(
So yeah each adaptation has its own unique appeal to the original story which is what I like. If I had a chance to listen to the drama cd, I would most likely choose it as my favourite adaptation but im a noob in hacking the vpn shits so I cant even buy the CD lol :( (if anyone wants to provide me some assistance on that that’d be great hehe im ok with raw materials)
