How do the different yanderes "love" you? (plus some tropes(??) i feel like would fit them)
this was honeslty just practice, and it ended up turning into smt kinda decent, i dont love what ive written but i just needed to get our smt
i blame @fatuismooches for being lovely and having such good harbinger thoughts that they've taken over my mind (fuck you[said with affection])
Yandere! Childe, Scaramouche, Dottore(separate) x gn reader
Childe ("soft and sweet" x unloving and hates touch)
He just spoils you left and right, he feels a little bad when he sees the uncomfortable look in your eyes when he kisses you all over, or when he touches you too much. so he has chosen to spoil you rotten until you finally fall for him, or at least see the way he can take care of you and finally kiss him back.
[He loves you, and that should be known by now, so why do you force his hands to do this, "why cant you just love him like he is", those were the last words you heard before he brought something to your lips and made you drink something unknown]
You are incredibly lucky that the 11th Harbinger is this patient with you, but dont push it too much, he can go to more bloody measures of getting you to fall for him if he sees it's needed. dont worry he wont hurt you too much, he loves you too much to do that, but love is complicated and you cant always control whom you fall in love with, so just love him will you, darling?
after all he knows the aphrodisiac he gave you wont last forever, so it would be better to just fall for him manually, right?
Scaramouche (manipulative, powerful x easily manipulated, weak[...i didnt know what to do here lol])
He might seem like he doesn't love at all, but when you aren't being dragged around to missions and meetings, and all alone with him in your shared chambers, he loves to just hug you, maybe litter kisses on your neck and collarbone. you hated it at first, and you still kind of do, but you've long since gotten used to it all.
He show his love for you when he has his hands all over your body as you dress into the clothes he picked out for you. he cant keep himself off of your lovely body, but would kill if anyone even touch a strand of your hair.
But oh how could you try 'nd leave when this weak little puppet is crying in your arms every night, when he has nightmares about you leaving him, dying when he can't be there to protect you... oh how foolish you are, how stupid you must be to fall for such things, as he has long since abandoned the idea of ever letting go of you.
And he'll make sure you dont let go of him either, because you need him. after all he was the one to save you from danger when you were stupid enough to walk too far into a hilichurl camp. you need protection, and he's rgith here willing to give it for "free".
Dottore (crazy scientist and his crazy lover[aka yandere x yandere but worse])
You lvoe each other in ways normal human minds wouldn't dream of ever understanding. he smiled when you gave him a dead body for experimenting, and the worst part? you had the biggest grin on your face, and a massive amount of blood on your hands and clothes, much to the dismay of many onlookers.
And then there's the fact that neither of you even spare a glance at the amount of blood on the others' clothes, or at least it looks like you don't. but when you are in the privacy of your shared bedroom (though filled with dead onlookers in the closet) you reward each other for getting rid of anyone who dares to interrupt, or archons forbid break, the love you two have.
It has been made a daily occurrence for you both to randomly disappear from the building with a fatui agent, who had taken too much attention from the other, and then come back alone with bloodied hands, and being greeted by a two-minute-long kiss when opening the lap doors again.
just two crazy maniacs in love, awwww (if they arent wanted in at least 6 nations they need to be)
thx for reading whatever this is, luv ya -Masterlist
You are welcome to reblog and like any of my posts, but you CAN NOT translate, copy or hate on anybody for liking my posts

I just read the Mechamaru short and also the other replies and well. And it just STRUCK me how Mechamaru is downright in the wrong in so many fucking ways.
Especially when you mentioned the guards. Those poor people who were guarding the Death Paintings and fingers. Mechamaru didn’t even give them a single consideration and probably even forgot they even existed, but they died horrible deaths because of Mechamaru colluding with Kenjaku.
Mechamaru accuses of Shiki having a perfect life - powerful, beautiful, perfect - and feels anger at her for the indifference when she looks at him, and yet, HE is worse than she is.
Ironically enough, despite her indifference and very much real and sincere want to resort to killing to solve her problems ALA she’s a cute little psychopath, Shiki is far more nicer to her subordinates and “people who don’t matter to the sorcerers”.
The guards. The assistants. The servants.
Because of how logical, abnormal and straightforward her way of thinking is, Shiki just… gets straight to the point. She treats her servants nicely because it’s basic decency to treat people who make everything work nicely. She makes sure her assistants are out of harm because duh, they are her assistants and can take care of other things, they don’t have to risk their lives fighting curses they cannot handle, she can handle that. Someone has committed a crime? Well easiest solution is to kill them but because of politics she will just immobilize them :/ Just let her break their limbs quickly, she had learnt from her mistake with Geto Suguru after all. They can be interrogated with only their mouth.
Anyways.
It’s just. Shiki doesn’t care about them the way she cares about Nanami or Satoru or Tsumiki or Megumi or Yuzuki.
Yet, she’s far, far more kinder to them than many other sorcerers who just see them as fodder.
Ironic. One of the most inhuman of sorcerers is kinder to them than those with human ego, isn’t it?
I think we're probably all in agreement that Mechamaru's plan in canon wasn't thought out very well. It sort of feels like he just finally, finally saw a chance to save himself, and went for it -to the point that he was tunnel-visioning quite a bit, either ignorant or uncaring or both regarding the casualties that such actions would have.
Shiki is largely uncaring about most people on the emotional level, but not the intellectual level. Which makes all the difference!
Mechamaru is indeed rather hypocritical in various ways when you look at things this way. Luckily, he's alive instead of dead in the Liyue AU, so now he gets to deal with the repercussions.
I haven't really made up my mind on details in the Liyue AU, although I think I'd like Mechamaru to have some character development in which he deals with the consequences of what his actions wrought.
In his own world, we have many civilian deaths, as well as the deaths of the warehouse guards. He also endangered his own classmates during the Goodwill event. He actively assisted and helped to hide Geto-Kenjaku and the man's faction from the jujutsu school.
In Liyue, an entire village was decimated by the four Special Grade cursed spirits that Shiki was fighting. Cursed spirits that she was only fighting because she'd been sent to search for Mechamaru.
Part of me wants to keep the transfigured monster-form a permanent state for Mechamaru. Actions have Consequences, and all that. It would also serve as an ever-present reminder that Mechamaru can't run from, in terms of what his shortsighted decisions cost him. There's also a fun parallel to hilichurls!
At the same time, there's another part of me that wants to make it so that Mechamaru can learn from the adepti. More specifically, learn to transform his shape from the illuminated beast adepti, whose original forms are animals but they themselves can take on a human form.
Because part of Mechamaru's growth in the Liyue AU would be coming to terms with what he did, but also trying to atone for it, too. To move past his mistakes, and become better.
... Anyways there are fun things to write either way, and I'd better stop here and get back to editing the next chapter for zenith of stars now haha.

kaeya + khaenr’iah headcanons
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
kaeya has an accent
khaenriahn is his mother tongue. they taught him some common language to prepare him for mondstadt, but not much
crepus figured that he didn’t know common but never pressed him about it. he got kaeya tutored, (alongside diluc later on) and read to him to teach him common
his accent is very thick when he’s first learning. the mondstadt kids bullied him for this (and for everything else) (diluc stands up for him)
his way of speaking is then very influenced by the Ragvindrs, very proper upper crust eloquent. but he takes it up one whole step to mask the accent. he speaks the way he does in game (very suave and flowery) to overcompensate for it.
when he’s alone with diluc, on nights when hes the last person at angels share. or when he comes by the dawn winery, his real accent slips out. he doesnt feel the need to hide.
kaeya’s eye
kaeya has heterochromia,,, i guess. his right eye is gold, like a swirling galaxy. with a diamond star pupil.
my guess is this is a distinctly khaenrian trait, with either both eyes or one eye being a gleaming gold color.
he’s covered it since arriving in mondstadt. he wouldnt let anyone touch his eyepatch, not even crepus or adelinde. nobody has seen his eye, except for one person.
his eyepatch was ripped off during his fight with diluc. that was the first and last time diluc ever saw his right eye. naturally, they dont talk about it.
occasionally, he gets a sharp shooting pain behind his eye. kaeya thinks nothing of it for now, but it will get worse. eventually it will deteriorate into an actual erosion, where the skin and tissue around his eye begins to dry and crack. it will spread to the rest of his body, maybe the rest of his face.
kaeya and hilichurls
kaeya doesn’t like fighting hilichurls. as much as possible, he tries to avoid them on missions or patrols.
sometimes the hilichurls beg, they scream. in anger. in desperation. kaeya pretends not to hear them.
when his party clears out a hilichurl camp for the first time, he urges the others to go forward without him. he tells them to check for other threats, he’ll clear the mess. when they’re gone, kaeya looks at the masses of bodies around him. he falls to his knees and cries. once hes done, he takes them to the side, as carefully as possible. he doesnt dare look at what’s under their masks.
after this, he never cries again. when he has to fight, he aims to knock them out. to freeze them long enough for the rest of his team to get to safety
when he has to kill, he makes it fast. he says a silent prayer in khaenrian for them. he hopes that this is a mercy.

Streamer!Genshin Reacting to Character!(Y/N) Dying in Game
!Warning!: Major character deaths & angst
Characters: Diluc, Venti, Childe, & Zhongli
Diluc:
It was a race to get inside one of the bases of the Abyss Order to put a stop to whatever plans they were in the process of executing that could potentially put many lives in danger. Diluc was rather calm while playing though it would be a lie to say that it wasn’t a bit annoying that the route to the domain was timed
It was once inside the domain did things pick up fast as it seemed to be a fighting wave system which after beating the first two rooms there was a short scene where in the end Lisa and Amber stayed behind to hold off the incoming enemies so the rest of the group could go further. It seemed like forever doing some of the puzzles to unlock the doors to reach the next fight
In that fourth room after the defeat of hilichurls and abyss mages did suddenly a short cut scene appear to show the appearance of an Abyss Lector. As remembering how much he hated fighting this guy in the spiral abyss he already knew what he was in for; however that was until your character stepped forward with your weapon ready. Diluc was actually sad to have to leave you behind as he was hoping that you’d be one of the characters that went with him to the very end
“I think I’ve watched enough shows and movies to know what this could be leading up to.” He’d comment to his viewers as he finally reached the destination where the Abyss Herald was. Finishing the fight triggered another cutscene as the traveler’s sibling appeared and was making their small speech, asking if the lives of the “friends” the traveler made were worth losing
Diluc is watching with a straight face as he kinda expected this but the who was what he wasn’t sure about and truthfully the only one he’d be truly heartbroken about is your death, but they wouldn’t kill you now of all times right? Wrong; soon the cutscene finally came across where they had left you and you were leaning against the wall extremely injured with your weapon laying beside you. Diluc is frowning cuz he has to watch you die now
Listening to your final words as you spoke to no one Diluc would sulk in his chair a little. In the last moment before your eyes closed, if you mentioned something about not getting to tell his character your true feelings it is visible that Diluc looks like he wants to cry(but he doesn't). Once the screen showed the mission complete he’d grab the plush he had of your character and hold it looking at his camera. “Of all the characters I thought were going to die, I wasn’t ready for it to be (y/n).” At that point he’d probably call it a day from there but he’d still talk to his viewers as he probably would watch the tribute videos that fans had already made
Venti:
Everything was in chaos as it looked like archon war 2 was going to be taking place, but this time it was a war between the Abyss Order and the Archons. He was heading to Mondstadt to help and to check on you. Dvalin was flying around sending attacks at the abyss members. “Ah traveler there you are!” The sound of your voice as you landed before him; as weird as it was to see you in your archon robes was odd but you looked so good! After a short conversation you had gone flying off and it was time to get back to fighting
Things were looking good as it seemed like they were winning against the abyss order though it wasn’t over yet. It was until up in the air did a cutscene starting showing you and the traveler’s sibling fighting going at it. Venti is so captivated by how serious and cool you look fighting, but it all changed when the sibling landed a blow that caused you to fall from the sky ending up falling into the Whispering Woods
Venti couldn’t run fast enough to get to the woods to check up on you but when he did the first thing he saw was the sibling standing before you. He’s already sad and yelling at the sibling for hurting you though it seemed that now he was there the sibling went and disappeared revealing the real condition you were in. “No, no, no! This better not mean (y/n)’s dying.” He’d say in denial as he’s already starting to cry a little
“A-Ah Windblume h-haha… Sorry you have to see me like this.” Even in a moment like this you gave him such a cheesy grin until you seemed to grimace in pain. “Unfortunately it seems like… This is it for me. As long as the winds blow I will always be with you, so please watch over Mondstadt for me.” Your words were making Venti cry as it was like back in your story quest but only ten times worse. And to think it was already painful as it was your next words that did him in. “Maybe in another life we will find each other again and maybe then we can be together.”
Watching you start to glow until you turned into partials of light till nothing of you was left, Venti is devastated. The chat is crying with him as he’s saying how awful it was that his sibling had killed the love of his life! His viewers are going to send him fanart and fics to look at that was an alternative that you lived in the game
Childe:
It was a big fight with the confrontation of the Fatui Harbingers, facing off against one of the other stronger members that blocked the path to proceed to seeing the Tsaritsa. The boss’ first stage was fine; however during the second stage it seemed after losing a certain amount of health the damage that Childe was dealing significantly decreased.
It was when the cutscene started that Childe was already dreading the foul legacy form he’d be facing this time. You suddenly came out of nowhere and already in your foul legacy form yourself Childe is going crazy over how cool you look; he’s also swooning at the fact that you’ve come to his rescue. The fighting progressed until you landed a successful hit that weakened the other harbinger; however, at that same time the other harbinger managed to hit you with a powerful attack
Childe is screaming at the sight of your mask breaking while you fell to the ground. He’s so glad that his character is running over to check on you instead of the fight picking right up, but he’s already feeling the feels hit him hard cuz he hates seeing you hurt. Seeing you back to normal, the damage you sustained was really bad; then the worst thought came to his mind. “This-This better not be what I think it is,” he’s saying not looking away from the screen listening to you weakly talk
“Haha don’t give me that look sweetie, I couldn’t just let this be where your journey ends.” Hearing those words and the nickname you used for his character was sad. “To think we’d be able to travel together more, but hey… Promise you won’t stop fighting and could you look after my siblings for me.” Childe is literally crying now that the reality of the situation is clear. If he gets a choice of dialog to choose from he is going to pick the choice that says that he pinky promises
If your character smiled at the choice he wanted to smile but he’s also just sad, you were dying in his character's arms. If you had given a small love confession in the little bit of life that was in you, he’s going to ugly sob and once the fight was starting again he needs to pause by going into his bag
Immediately he goes getting his big plush of you and coming back to hug it and cleaning his tears with his sleeve before looking at the camera. “I wasn’t ready for this, my baby!” He was not expecting to be losing you; he figured that some characters would possibly die but you were the last character he thought would be killed off in the game. There’s Fs in the chat all around and the crying emote; it’s sad boi hours in this chili’s. He doesn't wanna do the fight but also he gotta avenge you so this last stage fight was for you. Afterwards he’s gonna go look at fanart and video edits
Zhongli:
After helping some of the other nations and their archon’s fend off the abyss order it was time he headed to Liyue to find you. Of course as usual it wasn’t going to be as easy as running around the harbor until he got word from Xiao that you were in Cuijue Slope. So he headed over to help you before anything seriously bad could happen to you
Getting to the open area there you were fighting against the sibling as you were even in your archon robes. Going in and interrupting the fight his sibling clearly looked annoyed and proceeded to try to get him to side with them which of course he didn’t. A Herald appeared to allow the sibling to get away which the fight with the Herald commenced
Just when Zhongli finished up the fight thinking he had won it strangely went to a cutscene as his character and you started to talk; however it was when the fallen Herald came out of nowhere about to attack his character but must to his surprise you shielded him not only taking the hit, but also using your elemental burst to finish off the enemy. Zhongli is frowning at how badly you were hurt as he already has a bad feeling this wasn’t going to end good; the traveler was helping you sit up after having fallen over
“I’m glad to see that you aren’t hurt my friend.” You said as you certainly have seen better days. “Sadly I believe my time has come… Do not be sad dear friend, I have lived many many years… As knowing you has been life changing. Though rocks change from erosion, know that no time will change how I felt about you.” Your words broke his heart as you had such a soft expression on your face as your body began to glow and before he knew it you turned into particles of light and disappeared. He probably wouldn’t cry at most maybe a tear but he is clearly upset about your passing in game and would take a break to talk to his viewers and maybe look at the fanart that surprisingly had been put out already

when he accidentally injures you | Xiao, Albedo, Bennett
Tumblr media
a/n: hello anon!! im doing well, thank you!! hope you are too !! thank you for giving me the chance to add characters HHHH ive been DYING to write for Xiao, Albedo and Benny so i took the opportunity to! hope you like it !! also,,, this is probably my longest post !! i loved writing this <3
pairing: Xiao x gn! reader, Albedo x gn! reader Bennett x gn! reader
warnings: vague mentions of injury and blood
Xiao
Tumblr media
★Xiao and you had been on a stroll, something you casually did together whenever Xiao was in a good mood. the adeptus wasn’t one to get out of the confines of Wangshuu Inn, so every time he does, you cherish it and spend it as if it was your last
★but this particular stroll didn’t go as planned, at all
★the two of you had left Wangshuu Inn in the morning, when the weather had seemed as if it would be sunny the whole morning, but it had betrayed you the moment you had set foot in Minlin, the skies had loomed with darkness and occasional rumbles of thunder
★Xiao could have easily teleported the two of you together, but a sudden attack with a ruin hunter had caused him to get distracted
★he could easily defeat the creation with a simple use of his elemental burst, but you were in the vicinity and he didn’t want you getting injured, despite the chances of hitting you were low, he wasn’t going to take the chance
★he had strictly told you to stay back and out of sight, making use of the terrain to jump and strike at the core with his polearm whenever the hunter was aiming to him, but he should have known you were stubborn
★the moment you had ran into the fight, arrow pointing to the ruin hunter, the said war machine had immediately turned towards you, all four of its arms aiming missiles towards you
★Xiao had been too slow, and when he had realized it was aiming towards you, you had already been sent back flying after the hit
★your name fell on his lips, his eyes widening in anger when he had seen what the creature had done, and without any hesitance Xiao summons his elemental burst and sends the creature falling to pieces
★“y/n,” Xiao mutters, worried that he would be met with the sight of you dead, “y/n, where are you?”
★you gave a weak groan, unable to raise your head after hitting it on the sharp rocks. Xiao made his way towards you, and the rain started pouting
★Xiao knelt down and cradled your head gently, seeing the gash on your head. you were most likely suffering from a concussion as well from the way you were unable to look at him in the eye, and your hands grabbing your forehead as if it had exploded
★his eyes showing evident worry, and this was the first time he had felt so scared
★he knew he was powerful, and he was beginning to regret even taking you out of the safety of the Inn. this shouldn't have happened, he was with you because he wanted to protect you,
★and here he was being the cause of your injury
★“y/n, can you hear me?” he asked, and when you hissed the moment he placed a gentle hand on your head, he curses lightly, unable to keep himself calm as he always had anymore, “hold on,”
★Xiao had lived for years and had suffered watching deaths and injuries of the people he had been close with since he had became the adeptus of Liyue, but for once, he had felt a different type of hurt when you had been injured this time
★because this was his fault; what if it had happened again?
★he had teleported the two of you back to Wangshuu Inn, and had asked Verr Goldet to help you just because he was afraid of hurting you further
★and she knew more than to question what happened, especially after Xiao had told her with the weakest voice she has ever heard him use, and pleading eyes to take care of you.
★when you had healed completely, you noticed Xiao had distanced himself from you more than when you had both met the first time, and it had worried you to no end
★it had came to a point where he would disappear whenever you tried to search for him at the balcony, and you were getting upset that he was running away from you because of the accident that was caused by your stubbornness; and the fact that you knew Xiao blamed himself had only made you more guilty
★”Xiao,” you gently said, walking outside with a bowl of his favorite almond tofu, “I miss you,”
★he had to contain himself to avoid disappearing on you again after he heard the words. Xiao wasn’t much of an emotional person, but the memories from the accident had left him afraid of getting close to you again, in fear that he would hurt you once more
★but when he had met your glossy eyes and saw the pained expression you held, he knew that it was only going to be worse is he had avoided you
★”y/n-” Xiao started, but you had only dropped the almond tofu and ran into his arms, hugging him tight as if you were afraid to let him go
★and (with reluctance), Xiao had hugged you back, twice as hard
★it would take time for him to get back to his usual self and trust himself to go out and adventure with you again, but for him, you would wait your lifetime.
Albedo
Tumblr media
★An experiment going wrong was a part of alchemy. It was something Albedo would expect to happen fifty percent of the time he conducts something for the first time
★He has gotten a handful of injuries from it that he had sometimes forgotten that people outside of the realm of alchemy wouldn't know what it would be like to expect a burn or scars after the first test
★So of course, sometimes even the smartest people could be careless
★Albedo had brought you to his lab in Dragonspine, claiming that he had found a rare plant and wanted to see if it was able to withstand heat
★Putting it in a flask, he had placed it on a test tube holder and your curious eyes had caught sight of the glowing pink tube
★“What’s this?” you stepped closer to inspect the glowing flask, and Albedo wordlessly looks at you with a fond smile. your curious gaze at his work had always made him feel happy; you truly were endearing
★Albedo turns on the burner, and the moment the fire had hit the flask, the substance had instantly exploded, causing you to recoil back and grab at your face when the substance had burned your face
★instantly, Albedo had abandoned his failed test and attended to you, trying to pry your hands away from your face
★“My love, I’m so sorry,” he says gently, trying to see the damage that the explosion has gave you, “please look at me,”
★you felt tears well in your eyes, the burns on your cheeks combining with the coldness of the snow stinging your face
★when Albedo had successfully pried your hands away , he grabbed them gently and looked at you, “we- we need to see the deaconess,” he mutters to himself, feeling his heart ache seeing you holding back tears, never in his life had he regretted conducting an experiment so badly;
★he had wished he was able to take the pain away from you, he absolutely despised seeing you so hurt
★after you had healed, Albedo would make a rule that you weren’t ever allowed in the premises of his laboratory ever again, and that you were banned from joining him whenever he was conducting experiments
★it had hurt you when Albedo had adamantly decided on it, but you knew that it would only hurt him more if you tried to fight him about it
★he was still blaming himself for the incident; despite him knowing that errors were completely common in alchemy
★his greatest fear was hurting you, and if he was given a choice, he would rather have you far away as possible from anything that could lead to potential harm
★(and that especially meant that when the time comes and he loses control and destroys Mond, he hopes you would be far away from him as possible, too)
Bennett
Tumblr media
★Bennett knew he was bad luck, he knew that was mostly the reason there wasn't anyone on his team. no one wanted to get hurt and gain nothing on an adventure. no one wanted to bring a bunch of medical supplies for when an accident that was bound to happen, happens
★no one but you
★you were the only member in Bennett’s team; you were a duo. you didn’t wield a vision, but that didn't make Bennett think of you any less, in fact, he thought you were the bravest person ever for being just a feet away from him outside of Mond, and now you were a team member of his
★injuries were common for you. there would always be some sort of scratch or bleeding whenever you went out on an adventure with the pyro vision holder. if there wasn’t a monster encounter, the two of you would accidentally trip and fall into a lake
★but when the latter happens, Bennett would have a fire for the two of you, and settle in an empty (at least, you hope was) hilichurl camp nearby to warm up in
★it was the norm now, and despite Bennett wanting you to just choose another team because he couldn't handle seeing you in pain from his luck, you had always reassured him that the unexpected turns of events because of his luck was just what you had loved about adventure, and you always trusted him to take care of you whenever something like that happened
★but of course, it was only a matter of time until it was Bennett himself who had hurt you
★you were both fighting a cryo abyss mage, the bastard’s protective shield already broken by Bennett’s elemental skill, causing the creature to start crawling on the ground pathetically
★you were sure its health had already decreased a significant amount that one slice could kill it off instantly, and you had wanted to give the final blow
★but Benny seemed to have a different idea
★the moment Bennett had saw you coming, it had been too late for him to stop, because the same moment you had ran towards the abyss mage, he had raised his sword and sliced the creature hard to the point that his sword had accidentally sliced your stomach as well
★thankfully, your clothes were thick enough that the cut hadn’t been deep enough to get stitches, but it still hurt so badly that you had fallen to the floor, clutching your stomach
★“y/n, what happened?!” he asked, too worried to remember that it had been him who did it, “are you okay?!- wait, no, that was a stupid question, let me see,”
★Bennett was an excellent team leader, but sometimes, he could be a little oblivious
★he gently lays you on his lap, taking out supplies from his belt. he had saw a glimpse of red, so he takes out towels to wipe the blood
★he had gently asked if he could lift your shirt, and when you had weakly nodded, he assessed the damage
★and that was when he had saw the burns by your cut
★burns. the abyss mage was a cryo one, and there wasn't any source of fire where you were but him
★Bennett felt his breath hitch, hands holding the towel clenching in fear. what had he done?
★“no, no, no,” he says in slight panic; this was exactly what he was afraid would happen, “no, no, y/n I’m so sorry. I was supposed to protect you,” his voice broke, gently pressing the towel on your wound to soak up the blood, and when he heard you hiss in pain, he felt tears well in his eyes, “I’m so sorry...”
★he knew the cut wasn’t deep, and you were going to be okay, but the mere thought that the fact you couldn't move and were in pain was because of his doing had caused Bennett to be unable to focus
★you were taken to Barbara immediately, Bennett carrying you bridal style the whole way back (he had been silent, while you had tried to start a conversation with lighthearted banter with him, he had only given you a half hearted laugh before focusing on his journey back) and was healed with a simple swish of the deaconess’ hands
★but afterwards, Bennett had started to spend less time outside of Mondstadt, saying that he had preferred to read at the library with you, and that was extremely unlike of him
★you knew it was because he was blaming himself for what had happened, so you had to let him know that you were fine, and that you knew that it was bound to happen anyways
★It would take a lot of reassurance for Benny to agree to even step a foot outside again, but in the end, it would be worth it to see his adventurer spirit once more

BENNETT
First of all, how dare u
This boy already has a chaotic life for you to arrive and making it worse.
But being honest, it wasn’t intentional, just like always.
Besides he’s a kid. The chaos of a kid + chaos of his bad luck, I mean- how were you not supposed to meet him?
That day was really strange, for the very first time the chaos wasn’t attracted by you, but you were attracted to chaos. Like a moth following a lantern on the street, something that you felt like you had to do, some kind of childish curiosity that guide your way to find Bennett in the middle of his adventure.
Poor boy was charging his pyro attack to max until a barrel exploded near him, he flew in the air waiting for a rough landing before his trajectory sent him where you were standing, still looking for the origin of that uneasy sensation of curiosity.
Luckily for him you could see his shadow just in time to react. You looked up because of the strange silhouette on the ground next to you and there he was, surrounded by a cloud of smoke and fire, with his screams getting louder and louder as he falls.
You trapped him in your arms, with the situation turning even more strange when the first thing he said was “nice catch!” with the bright smile of his.
Like if his hair on fire wasn’t a big deal.
It’s raining men ig
Before you could ask anything, a crowd of angry hilichurls appeared from the same direction where Bennett came at first.
The white haired boy jumped off from your arms and tried to grasp your hand to run away together, but instead you pulled him near and then behind you before rising your hand to the front, pointing the stampede of furious creatures about to reach you both.
Not even a leaf fell from a tree before the hilichurls stopped, all of them felt your presence immediately, the primitive sensation of danger that meant a silent threat. Following the message that another camp of them told long ago, ‘get away from that stranger’.
Bennett was surprised, kind of scared at least. He wasn’t sure about how to call that feeling.
Are you a beast tamer?! Maybe an adventurer that discovered a secret about hilichurl’s behavior! Wait- where are you going? Don’t leave him behind, the doubt won’t let him sleep tonight!
You explained to him that it was dangerous for both to be near each other (more dangerous for him than for you), still you needed to get away. To protect Bennett and the other adventurers that were exploring nearby.
But why? He was so excited about meeting someone who could react that fast and precise! Like the heroes in the legends!
Please show him your ways, he’s begging you, how can you be rude to Bennett? That literally illegal.
When he heard that there was a God of Chaos exploring all over Teyvat like an errant he connected two points (even if there wasn’t a single thing to connect in first place).
You’re like him!
Hello ?? You’re literally ?? the most qualified to be part of Benny’s Adventure Team ??
Negative plus negative is positive, isn’t it? Maybe if you roam near Bennett his bad luck can collide with your chaos to neutralize each other!
You told him that you were leaving after that short conversation, but in reality you just hide from his sights and followed him from behind.
That kid really put you on your nerves, running into danger without knowing. Was that what Zhongli have to deal with every time you visit Liyue?
The old man really deserves an apology.
You’re not doing this an habit, of course not! You’re the all mighty God of Chaos, the ultimate troublemaker! How was even possible to think about wanting to protect a human just because he has bad luck? That’s ridic-
“Watch out!” You had to abandoned your hiding spot to reach Bennett again, pulling him away from the place where a bunch of hunter’s traps were. “Barbatos, why all your children have to be like this?…” You whispered for yourself, actually waiting for a answer, maybe a little too much because you didn’t free Bennett. His feet were just barely touching the ground.
“Oh, it’s you! Hello again!”
Enough of babysitting, that’s it, both of you are heading back to Mondstadt. This boy is a danger for himself, who allowed him to be an adventurer in first place?
After abandoned him in front of the city’s bridge you turn back to the forest, believing that it was the end, even if in the process your chaos took the life of some pigeons nearby.
Next morning you were sleeping peacefully on the branches of a huge old tree, feeling the wind of your bard friend greeting you from the distance.
Then a storm started out of nowhere; your fault.
And almost immediately you heard a cheerful voice below you, calling your name like a lost child searching for their parents.
As Bennett climbs the tree to talk with you a lightning strikes near enough to make both of you jump because of the surprise, falling from the branch and meeting each other on the mud below.
“Sorry, my bad.” Bennett and you said at the same time, to later laugh because of that.
It seems that both are more alike than you would expect

TARTAGLIA
How do I explain that this guy already knew about you-
As you may suspect, yes, his only reason of wanting to meet you was to fight you.
The first step for taking the thrones of gods is beating one of the youngest, isn’t it? It would be a good start, and you’d be also one of the best opponents he ever fought! The only thing still needed was a way to make you accept his challenge.
Tartaglia’s first try was by attacking you without hesitation, not even a warning, just shooting an arrow for behind and waiting for you to counter. And yes, that didn’t go as planned, the rope of his bow snapped even before aiming.
It wouldn’t be that easy, the distance is always boring for a fight, why not just attacking directly?
Because you learned from Morax that you must not hurt mortals; the reason of your trip was for appreciate the human’s life, to understand why you exist, to have a reason to not end with everything that crosses your path.
To convince yourself that you’re not only destruction.
But it was hard to stay calm if he constantly provokes you to fight back. Always dodging, always running away, always breaking his weapons.
Barely holding yourself to not to break his Vision at this point.
Dodging one of his attacks again you ended up on top of a nearby structure by the side of the road, watching him from above and begging for him to stop for once.
Tartaglia clicked his tongue in annoyance, you would escape again. He was as sick as you of that senseless hunt. Maybe was the stress what impede him to think wisely, because his next strategy was like a death wish.
The water blades disappeared from his hands and, for the first time, he had a casual talk with you. Smiling and waving his hands to look relaxed.
Then he mentioned the incident with Osial, a event that almost became a tragedy. And the only reason you knew about that was because Morax told you about it, about his contract and the reason why he left his position as an Archon the next time you visited him.
It was your fault, isn’t it?
“… what?”
"As you heard! The conditions for summoning Osial was ideal, bringing back a sealed god filled with hatred and hungry for destruction couldn't have been possible if you hadn't been around Liyue that day.” His hand lifted to pointing at you, also smiling as your expression turned into a concerned one. “Oh, our God of Chaos, you were successfully satiated as the catastrophe filled the ocean! Bring us back the destruction, because it's the only thing you ever knew!”
He was obviously just mocking you, but still Tartaglia managed to actually make you think about it.
Your fault. Your chaos.
And even with that, Rex Lapis didn’t seal you or tried to eradicated you like the burden that you are for every nation.
It’s just a matter of time before you destroy all humane existence when you get bored of your fantasy of not being a spirit of chaos.
An infinity of negative and dark thoughts began to fill your mind.
It was sad, it was so sad that the erosion already began to have an effect on you being so young. You were afraid, you were concerned, the stress ate you inside while you tried to convince yourself that it wasn’t like he said.
Your mind collapsed, and you left the wrath take the control for the first time in centuries.
A fight? That’s all he wanted? Easy, that’s easy, just kill him and everything will end. His annoying voice won’t torment you ever again, his words won’t hurt ever again.
It’s easy, so easy. Mortal life is so easy to end.
He’ll defeat the gods, he’ll take their thrones and will witness the world’s end in the final battle he planned since his first encounter with the traveler.
But that day Tartaglia noticed the difference between your strength, it wasn’t huge, neither significant enough. But you were stronger, and it’s well known that wrath and despair can provide extra energy when it’s needed.
The perception of time disappeared, the world did too. Nature, men creation, everything will succumb against chaos, existence itself will be reduce to ashes.
That’s why you exist, to make sure there’s not too much heroes trying to make the nations a boring place. You just need to accept it!
But…
‘There’s no other way?’
The question sparkle inside your mind, bringing you back out of nowhere. There’s a lot of irregularities in the ground nearby, the land was broke for something that impacted with an inhuman strength, even the structure where you step on top was gone, just the remain of a building was left.
And your hands were holding something bland and soft, the warm sensation on your palms and the strange movements caught your attention to look down. Your hands were strangling Tartaglia.
From the other side his hands were trying to remove yours, his strength was minimal, not even able of closing his fingers around your wrist.
A expression full of pain and regretting of his decisions, question by question filling his mind while the air became harder to get.
A broken bow, his Vision has been thrown away. Now it was a human versus a god.
You took a step back, afraid of what you were about to do. You have to stay calm and quiet forever? To prevent catastrophe, to bring peace to mortals? Who’s the one you have to blame for creating you? How you could think that coexisting with humans was possible? Even if you say that you don’t want to make any problems you would stay near them.
“Just… leave me alone.”
Was the last thing you said, a whisper that wanted to apologize for a whole eternity, a regret that couldn’t be forgot. And then you left that place, escaping one last time.
But wait for him, Tartaglia thought, he didn’t need your compassion.
Sooner or later he would have his revenge.

SCARAMOUCHE
Finally! With Shogun Raiden’s gnosis on his possession and the all mighty hero of Mondstadt weakened there’s no way things can go wrong for him!
A little delay in his plans, but still a smile remained on his face. Kunikuzushi couldn’t wish for anything else right now.
But you already know what is going to happen next.
In this world exist Murphy’s Law?, because anything that could go wrong went wrong after he claim for victory. Even being far away of the factory it seemed that the karma reached him immediately.
He just got his guard down for a couple seconds, and then, whoshh. Now you see it, now you don’t. The gnosis disappeared from his pocket, not here, not there. The annoyance filled his chest and then a irritated growl came from his throat.
What in the world happened?
Scaramouche looked to a huge tree in front of him, and there you were. On your favorite place to sit, above from everyone else in a branch. Holding the gnosis as the board piece it looks like, playing throwing it up a little and then catching it again and again.
Who you think you are to act that carefree on his presence? If you wanted to die so bad then you could just have asked for it.
Even if he called you and made a question first you counter it with another one, what was he doing with that thing?
You were sick of those who defy the gods thanks to his ‘workmate’.
Scaramouche ordered you to give him the gnosis back, threats and insults came out from his mouth as a distraction; in reality, he was just ready to set the first hit from behind.
But something made him stop just in time when you talked again.
“I don’t care what you are planning, but if it involves the ones who I’m in debt with, you will surely fail.”
“Another clairvoyant? Hah, your type are more words than an actual subject matter, but I have to admit it, they’re also very skill to escape.”
“It was a warning.” You said, throwing again the gnosis, this time to his direction.
Scaramouche reacted in time to rise his arms but in midair something caught the chess-like piece before his fingers. Surprising him again and making the irritation event more unbearable.
It was a tanuki. The same that looked behind a second before running even deeper in the forest.
The chaos isn’t necessary a huge disaster; a little accident, an inconvenient, a failure, it depends time and place to be considered like a catastrophe.
Scaramouche had a killer gaze just for you in his face, in respond you smiled at him, then covered your mouth with both hands to fake surprise.
“What a shame! Better luck next time, gods defier.” Your laugh could be heard all over the woods, like a spectral echo that chased him his way to get back the gnosis.
He got it back after a few minutes of a stressful walk through the forest, found the tanuki dancing on a stone before disappearing again. When he got closer he found that piece, making sure it was the real one and not just another trick.
The following days he received endless reports of Fatui soldiers and entire camps being reduced to rubble aside lost or destroyed materials; it was a higher level sabotage done by who they said was someone of relatively young appearance in strange clothes, the one that enjoyed staring at them until something goes wrong.
Nobody could defeat them, not even get closer. And with that, Scaramouche knew they were talking about you.
Was that what you meant with “warning”? Who are you exactly? Not even holding a Vision, how could you… ?
A quick order was enough to deliver him a book full of ancient legends, part of the Fatui private collection. Texts that were lost and the world had forgotten, his only hope was that you weren't exactly mortal, and if that was the case they could take advantage of your nature.
Hah, he found you.
God of Chaos, a body sculptured by the blood and bodies of the ones who died in middle of the wars. At first they were just a being full of anger and affinity for taking the life of every living being on earth, until the same hand that created them gave them a human heart of their own. Made without any prior basis, without being the remains of the deceased. Something one of a kind, the mortal heart of a god.
When human emotions filled the vessel they were released into the world, to mourn over the spilled blood and to know how everything of their existence originates. Born from the red that stained the fields and being the bud that seemed withered, the same that now has the deepest roots ever found.
Hmm, that brings back some memories…
But hey, that vital energy could be useful.
Don’t be surprised if one day you wake up chained and feeling dizzy as Scaramouche drains your life. You know what? Just wait for it! Running away as you did with that idiot won’t work this time.
Every possibility can be foreseen, every inconvenience can be solved. And if you think that you’re an exception then you’re stupider than you look.

GANYU
Bold of you assume that Zhongli didn’t introduce you to everyone the first time you travel to Liyue.
The difference between your meeting was that it had to be really short. Ganyu is always busy so you couldn’t know her better before her duty called for her again.
Obviously you heard a lot of stories of her childhood thanks to Cloud Retainer. The day she knew about it Ganyu avoided you, next week she apologized with you about it. It was very rude, please pardon her.
Such a big sister vibes ngl
An Adeptus working that hard to human’s matters. It was so cool to follow her from a significant distance to see how was her routine.
If you could only live that peacefully near humans without causing any problem! What a dream! The envy was killing you.
Ganyu didn’t mind about you stalking her, the feeling of a companion was always present and she also knew that you had to keep some distance from everybody to not cause any accident. She appreciated your consideration.
Until a soldier from the millelith arrested you for harassment, wait- you’re innocent! Don’t get closer, hold on! Hold on!
The handcuffs broke almost immediately, though.
When Ganyu resolved the misunderstanding she hold your hands to apologize again, it had to be really stressful to be aware of any chaos you could create accidentally.
What if you… wait for her on the surroundings of the city?
Please, she have a lot of work, don’t interrupt her, she’s begging you.
Ganyu thought you heard her request, but she knew that you were just hiding when a window opened out of nowhere and a lot of documents flew away in the room.
You appeared hanging upside down from the other side of the window, jumped down and entered to pick up the documents. You hand her over all the pages and then you leave through the space on the wall.
“… I’ll be in Huaguang Stone Forest… ”
“Thank you.”
Even though you both agreed that you would return to the stone forest, she couldn't help but feel guilty as the hours passed, did you feel like a nuisance? Maybe she should apologize. Again.
When another successful day at work ended, she realized that repeating the same words over and over was not the best way to show her regret. That’s why a better idea formed in his head as she approached the abode of the rest of Adeptus.
Ganyu found you being scolded by Mountain Shaper for unintentionally releasing the trespassing intruders along with other creatures from their amber prisons.
After rescuing you again, she was able to propose her idea to you. With a calm and charming voice she asked you if you would like to learn about Liyue's traditions from the human perspective.
Sure, Zhongli could tell you about the beginning of traditions and festivities, but the way to celebrate them and pay tribute to the Adeptus was something that only a person who had lived among mortals for years could explain to you.
Your eyes shone in gratitude but no words really came out of your lips, kind of embarrassed you said some nonsensical things and then another amber cracked when you brushed its surface.
Mountain Shaper kicked you out without thinking twice.
But hey! The next day your classes on Culture from the Mortal Perspective began! A quick but calm walk through Liyue that got spread when a bunch of kids recognized you.
How could they not remember the person who plays with them every time they get a chance?
Ganyu sat by the side of the road on an empty bench, watching you scamper the children who seemed happy at your mere presence. Like the occasional accidents of a child, the curious and outlandish nature cannot be controlled, only accepted.

CHONGYUN
Don’t move! The future best exorcist in the world, Chongyun, will put an end to your legacy of misdeeds and pranks! No evil specter that causes bad luck will survive to-!
Just by lightly tapping with your fingertips you were able to break the seal of the talismans that surrounded you out of nowhere. Pushing back the boy who was convinced that he had beaten his yang.
how dare u interrupt him.
Another of Xingqiu’s pranks? Isn’t this going a little to far? He hadn’t learn about not believing everything his friend says smh.
Let’s just mess with him a little.
‘Measure your words, human. In the presence of the God of Chaos, the first thought that should run through your mortal instinct is to beg for your life, since those who dare to defy them will be punished and displayed as a trophy in the infinity of the abyss from which the catastrophe came out.’
You took a few steps closer to him, while Chongyun kept backing away. The scene was so dramatic that you had to stop when the boy summoned his sword.
Haha jk, nice to meet u.
It's nice to know that there are still such dedicated exorcists out there.
But wait-, so you're not an evil spirit? A God? Why is there a god causing accidents all over Liyue!? That makes no sense! If you think you can deceive him by pretending to be a deity then he shall punish you severely for disrespecting them!
After a detailed explanation of your identity, Chongyun's mood plummeted again due to another failure as an exorcist.
He sat silently on a rock and remained silent, his expression showed so well his disappointed that it made you feel like it was your fault.
Ohno, a sad human child, your weakness-
At the end you sat next to him to listen to what he had to say.
Did he really want to see a spirit so badly? Those things are horrible, wearing strange clothes and yelling all the time, buagh! The thought of it gives you chills. But there's nothing you can do, after all they are drawn to your chaos.
When you finished talking so indifferently about what you lived through from day to day, you looked back at Chongyun, finding his expressive eyes filled with astonishment and disbelief.
Are you a magnet of evil? Chaos and destruction? Demons and spirits alike appear wherever you go?
Then you stopped him, it wasn't something to take so lightly; there’s also the chaos of the butterfly effect, natural disasters, unforeseen events, influencing the mood of evil people, losing your favorite pair of socks-
But you attract spirits, right!? You have to help him! How can you say ‘no’ to that face?
The next day he took you to one of his commissions as an exorcist, a house that had numerous reports from its previous tenants. He stayed outside and asked you to come in first, obviously you refused, if your chaos broke something inside you would have more problems besides the ghosts of the house.
He insisted a little more, it worked. Now you were waiting to feel the presence of some spirit trying to attack you. You could feel it, their energy was spread throughout the building, but still there was no movement. Neither hostility, neither terror, just the presence of a soul.
When it was Chongyun's turn to enter you explained this to him, his yang was also easy to perceive, you could describe it as a blizzard in the middle of the storm. But despite this, that presence didn’t react to his energy, nothing changed.
Then you understand it, your energies neutralized each other. Your chaos and his yang ended in a stalemate that went nowhere.
“I was really hoping to see an actual spirit and not only stay still in the middle of the entrance… “
“Well, I can still curse you. Want to try?” Chongyun crossed his arms, annoyed for your jokes.
“Maybe I should exorcize you instead… ”
“Ohh, so the little exorcist wants a deity to be his personal dummy? Let’s make a pact then. Promise me your soul.”
“I-I thought you said you weren’t actually a demon!”
When you stroked his hair he couldn't help but think about how much he still had to learn, so much so that even the gods were taking pity on him.

To be a human - Scaramouche x reader - Part 5
You knew committing to a relationship with Scaramouche would be no easy task but you loved him dearly and unlike others, you believed he wasn't evil. But as a mortal and the devoted protector of your village you were too much of a good person, too much of a human compared to him and your differences slowly start to show.
Previous: Part 4
Length: not too long:)
Trigger warnings: blood, fighting
You slowly opened your eyes.
The clouds that were orange and pink not so long ago now had turned dark along with the sky.
You've just realised how long you have been sitting on the cliff.
The chilly weather suddenly felt genuinely cold and a shiver ran down your spine. You wore light clothes not suited for a night in Liuye's mountains.
'I should start heading back' you thought. But you didn't move.
A few days have passed since Scaramouche left but it still felt like the wound he caused was wide open. You avoided every interaction with others and luckily they were considerate enough to let you be. No one gave you requests or tasks, they dealt with their problems themselves so you could be alone for a while.
A little guilt stung your chest. You said you would always protect them yet you were selfish enough to only think about yourself for days.
On the other hand, you also felt a little burnout. You still loved the village as much as you used to - maybe even more, now that it was the only thing left that you cared about - but you didn't want to go back to your previous way of living. Even though Scaramouche wasn't a part of your daily routine, everything felt so empty without him. Just thinking about him made you smile any time and you could always look forward to his visits. And when he was actually there, he made everything feel shiny and wonderful.
He sure was the grumpiest man but that just made his soft moment worth even more. How delighted you felt when he laughed at your stupid jokes or gave you a smile that wasn't teasing or (too) smug. When he first held your hand you couldn't stop grinning for days.
You let out a quiet chuckle as you remembered your beautiful memories together. For a few seconds the grief was gone with your smile but when it finally faded away the sorrow became even sharper in your heart.
But it actually wasn't that painful any more. It still hurt really deeply but now you could at least think of the benefits of the new situation.
Something that you always hated about being with Scara was that the village lived in a low-key but constant fear. They were all afraid of the fatui. And for a good reason, as you realised after their last visit.
Now you could at least keep them more safe. They didn't have to be afraid of your lover and his power any more.
You stared at the dark sky one last time then shook your head. You stood up, getting ready to head back to the village but your mind was still invaded by thoughts of Scara.
The rocks under your shoes jingled as you took a step forward.
Another step, another sound of them tinkling together.
Another step and a scream.
You flinched and immediately glanced at the rocks. But they weren't the ones making the desperate sound.
You stared in front of you, your mind numb and empty without any thoughts.
Another scream. Human voices strengthening and getting louder and louder in the distance.
You looked up slowly, turning your gaze to where the village was. It was pitch black. Until red dots started lighting up.
'Oh no' you whispered to yourself.
The realisation hit you and your whole body froze for a moment.
'Oh no. Oh no, oh no, oh no...'
You finally moved, grabbing your polearm off your back. Then you started running.
There was no time to safely climb down on the mountainside. You threw yourself off the cliff, slashing through the cold air and landing on your weapon. Running and jumping again like your whole life depended on it.
It probably did. The village was the only thing you wanted to live for after Scaramouche left.
Terrible guilt stabbed your heart. You couldn't believe you neglected the place and people you once swore to protect. You couldn't believe you actually forgot about them and selfishly only cared about your wounds even though they needed you.
And now they were attacked.
Fear crawled up on your spine as you jumped up from a cliff. You were pretty close to the village now.
Out of breath, you heart beating at a crazy speed but you were ready to take any monsters down.
You landed on your spear, slipped and fell painfully. But you were up on your feet in a blink of an eye, sprinting again.
The village was in a worse situation than you had imagined.
You ran through the gates and stopped, looking around to see where your help was needed the most.
It was needed everywhere.
Your eyes grew wide open.
The houses were on fire, burning and lighting up the night. People were running around in chaos, monsters chasing them. Abbys mages sent whole blaze bombs after them. They set everything on fire.
An abandoned child crying on the stairs. Her father fighting a mitachurl with a single hack. Mothers desperately trying to find their family.
The blood red flames reflected in your eyes as you stood there, numbed by the terrifying destruction.
You moved on your own as you clenched your fist around the spear.
You jumped at the speed of the light. One moment you were still standing under the gates and the next you flashed your way through a group of hilichurls.
There were just corpses left behind in your way.
An old man cried for your help when he saw you. He was trying to protect his house from an abyss mage.
You landed behind the monster. It heard the noise and tried to turn around.
But before it could've even moved an inch, your whole body strained then let loose. Hydro bursting out of your veins, it broke through the mage's shield in an instant.
It fell but never reached the ground. Your spear cut through it in mid-air.
'Thank you!' The old man panted, his entire body trembling. 'I...'
'Leave the village!' You yelled through the discord of screams and roars. 'Go to the bamboo forest!'
'But my house...'
'Leave. Now.' You ordered in a way that it was impossible to disobey.
Then you moved on.
Your aura was filled with tense hydro vibrating in the dark. It strangled the monsters with one touch but suffocated you as well.
But you didn't feel the pain at all. Everything inside you focused on the fighting and precise killing. You flashed from one side of the village to another, trying to save the people you swore to protect.
But even though your strength was almost non-human in these minutes of crisis it still felt incredibly lacking.
The whole village was on fire at this point. The abyss mages did not care about their puppets, they burned hilichurls as well as people.
Because there were so many of them.
You stopped for a moment to catch your breath and looked around desperately. There were so many monsters. And so many people you still needed to save.
The heat was unbearable. Sweatdrops streamed down your face despite the constant hydro aura surrounding you.
Suddenly the ground started shaking and you nearly fell over.
A lawachurl slammed his fists down. It let out a huge roar and turned to the closest person to it.
A frightened cry left your lips as you recognised the tiny figure.
Little Yu.
She rose her arms, shielding something behind her. She seemed almost fearless as she looked straight into the gigantic monster's eyes. But it was still a ridiculous try to stop the lawachurl.
It lifted its fists into the air, getting ready to cause another earthquake.
It swang it...
But before it could have reached the ground, you appeared in front of him out of blue.
Your spear cut through its left fist. The monster shook and roared in pain. It tried to grab you but you quickly dodged and sprang back.
The lawachurl let out a deep growl and slowly straightened up.
You couldn't help but feel ludicrously tiny compared to the huge figure. It started to manifest its geo shield. You stepped back in slight panic and glanced at Yu behind you.
'Y/n!' She cried out, grabbing the edge of your coat. 'I'm so happy you're here! Please protect us!'
You finally recognised the figure behind her. It was her wounded mother kneeling on the ground, bleeding out. Yet, the look in her daughter's eyes was brave and now hopeful.
She had faith in you. They all had their faith in you.
This thought was the only thing giving you strength.
You grabbed her arm and leaned closer to her as the lawachurl started walking towards you in the background.
Your heart was beating so fast it felt like exploding, the blood streaming in your veins hot and tense. But you still managed to sound calm when you spoke to the child.
'Listen carefully to what I have to say. Do you remember the spot where you met me and the harbinger a few days ago?' She nodded. 'Collect as many people as you can from the village and the bamboo forest and go there. Hide and don't come out until you're completely sure the monsters are gone. Do you understand?'
'Yes' she answered. But she still seemed hesitant.
'What is it?' You asked hastily for the lawachurl was getting closer to you with every passing moment.
'Will you be alright?' She asked, locking eyes with you.
'Of course' you gently pushed her backwards to her mother who seemed to have regained her consciousness. 'Now go!'
She nodded and helped her mother stand up. You made sure they got out of your zone safely.
Then turned around.
Just in time to see the lawachurl slamming down its fists.
You dodged and jumped upwards. Spun in the air and stabbed your spear infused with hydro into the monster's thick skin.
You landed safely on the ground with the bloody polearm in your grip.
The lawachurl roared so loudly that his voice shook the mountains. It swang towards you blinded by the pain but you dodged again.
You straightened up directly in front of it. Clenched your teeth together before quickly telling a quiet prayer.
You were ready to face all monsters.

Proper treatment
*after exploring a domain*
Aether: hey, are you okay?
Amber: *looking down with a frown and bandaging his arm* me? Of course! *forces a smile* Why wouldn't I be okay?
Aether: you know that's not true, right? You've been frowning the whole day, and it only got worse after the domain.
Amber: . . . *looks down again, and keeps bandaging his arm* it's nothing big really, no need to get worried.
Aether: If it's bothering you then i do have to worry. Come on, you know you can tell me anything.
Amber: *stops bandaging* why. . .do you still bring me along?
Aether: what?
Amber: why do you still bring me to these missions?
Aether: because i like having you around, and you're the best archer i know, so of course i-
Amber: are you an idiot!?
Aether: *shocked* wha-?
Amber: *tearing up* just look at yourself! You're full of bruises and cuts!
Aether: that wasn't your fault, i was careless and-
Amber: of course it was! I'm your partner! I'm supposed to protect your back! But i'm so weak that i can't do anything! Even the weakest hilichurls barely flinch when I shoot them!
Aether: *sighs* so that's the problem.
Amber: *crying* if mister zhongli wasn't around that ruin guard would've killed you. I don't wanna lose anyone else because of my weakness, especially someone so important to me like you!
Aether: you're not weak amber, you really aren't-
Amber: Of course I am! I can barely hit four digits even with critical hits! Baron bunny barely fazes any enemy, and even my ultimate is ignored by anything I try to hit! A lot of people make fun of me because I'm so weak, and I tried to ignore that, but they're right! I'm the weakest of the knights and a failure as an archer!
Aether: amber-
Amber: *wiping her tears* Please just ask fischl or ganyu to take my place, I don't wanna be the reason you get hurt anymore.
Aether: *inhales* . . . . . . *exhales and gets up*
Amber: Traveler. . .?
Aether: I'll be right back. *leaves*
Amber: o-okay. . .
*One month later, at jean's office*
Amber: Did the search parties get lucky?
Jean: *sighs* I'm afraid not, we already searched every corner of mondstadt but there's still no clue about the traveler's whereabouts.
Zhongli: I contacted the Liyue qixing and asked for help in the case, but there's no sign of him on Liyue as well.
Amber: *grits her teeth in frustration*
Lisa: oh my, just where in the world is he.
Kaeya: i bet we're gonna find him sooner or later.
Diluc: That if the fatui didn't find him first.
Amber: *flinches*
Jean: that. . .unfortunately, is a possibility.
Diluc: I know, that's why I already started making preparations to go to Snezhnaya to search for him.
Jean: *eyes wide* a-are you sure about this sir?
Diluc: he put himself on the line to help us many times, i'm just trying to repay the favor.
Amber: Can I go with you sir?
Diluc: i'm sorry, but i don't think you are ready for something like that.
Amber: I know that! More than anyone I know that I'm not ready for something like that, but I don't care, I have to find him! No matter the cost!
Zhongli: it would be wise to calm down, we cannot make any decisions in such an agitated state.
Amber: We don't have time! We need to act now or else we won't find him!
Zhongli: i understand how you are feeling, i'm just asking you to try and calm down a little bit.
Amber: I can't! The only way i would calm down was if he walked into this room right no-
Aether: *kicks door open*
Everyone: *gasps, with eyes wide* Traveler!?
Aether: *with dark bags under his eyes, a few burnt marks on his clothes, hair loose and completely messy, visible mud on his boots and a lot of bruises around his body* hey. . .
Lisa: oh dear, what happened to you?
Aether: RNG, that's what fucking happened. *walks directly towards amber and puts down a backpack* and this is yours. *opens the backpack, showing a large amount of items*
Amber: w-what's all this?
Aether: a buttload of freedom books and arrowheads for your talents, and good amount of dvalin sighs also for your talents. A ton of agnius agates, fire seeds and lamp grass for your ascensions, some extra constelations and an unholy amount of purple EXP books and mora. There's also a full plus twenty witch of flames set with a pyro goblet and a CRIT damage hat, the substats aren't stellar but they're better than most i got for the others. I wished i could've got you a five star bow but like i said many times before, RNG is a bitch, so the best i could get was a refinement five and level ninety prototype bow.
Amber: *speechless* . . .what. . .what's all that for? You disappeared for a whole month just to farm these for me?
Aether: you got sad because you couldn't help me on the field, and that only happened because I neglected you, even though you're my partner and have been helping me since day one. This is both an apology and a fix to that.
Amber: i. . .don't know what to say. . .
Aether: don't say anything, just put those on and if anyone says shit about you again, shoot them in the head, If you don't feel like it just tell me and i'll shoot them myself. You're strong and amazing, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. *pulls her by the waist, giving her a long deep kiss*
Amber: *blushes, but melts into the kiss*
Aether: Now if you excuse me, i'm dirty, my whole body hurts and i feel like i'm gonna pass out at any second, so i'll take a bath and a day long nap.
Amber: *red, and with steam coming out of her head* o-okay.
Aether: Love you, See you tomorrow. *leaves*
Diluc: well, i guess this solves the situation.
Lisa: My, My, how romantic of him.
Zhongli: young love truly is a beautiful thing.
Jean: It does look like something straight out of a novel.
Kaeya: looks like our little rookie has our favorite hero wrapped around her finger.
Amber: *with a massive blush* Please stop. . .i don't deserve all of this.
Aether: *from outside the window* YES YOU FUCKING DO!!!
Amber: *covering her face* i don't deserve him!!!

Under the Windtree
Word count: 2.5k
Genre: Hurt/comfort
Aether returns to Mondstadt only to find that Venti hasn't been seen in a few days. He can't shake the feeling that something isn't right.
~
Aether and Paimon come back to Mondstadt after a long time of traveling the country between Mond and Liyue to collect ingredients, artifacts and looking for more clues of the whereabouts of Lumine.
Everyone is happy to see them and he's immediately roped into helping out here and there, despite being tired.
Paimon eventually tells him to stop because she knows he's exhausted and he goes to stay at the Angel's Share.
He was really hoping to see Venti before retiring for the night, but the bard is difficult to get a hold of on the best days, since he doesn't have actual residence in Mondstadt.
He wishes Charles a good night and goes to end the day after a good meal.
~
Aether wakes up the next morning with Paimon gone, probably to get breakfast somewhere and gets ready for the day, happy for the access to a good bath with warm water after weeks.
He finds Paimon at the counter talking Charles' ear off who seems happy to entertain her and Aether sits down with them.
They talk and Aether finds out after asking (he tries to sound casual when he asks, but Charles looks at him a bit too knowing) that Venti hasn't really been seen by anyone around for about 3 days now, which is somewhat rare, but it happens.
Aether cant help but feel worried despite Charles being calm about it but he, better than anyone, knows Venti can take care of himself.
He doesnt look for him.
He goes talk to jean to see if she needs help and to lighten the load he knows she has on her shoulders and then sneaks off with Kaeya to take a break in which they see who can catch a slime faster.
Aether wins and Kaeya promises to smuggle him a drink later.
Kaeya pulls him into a half hug-half headlock and ruffles his hair, dodging Paimon who playfully swats at his head to 'defend' Aether, before they go off to continue their jobs.
Aether finishes some commissions and sinple tasks asked by the citizens until Paimon tells him to go sit for a while.
Venti still hasn't shown his face and Aether is getting anxious now.
He knows the bard is often busy with his own mischief and isn't always around but whenever Aether goes back to Mondstadt he's been there at least a day and most of the time immediately sought him out, as if he knew he was in town.
Which, as the archon of wind, is very likely.
So why hasn't he visited yet?
Was he on a trip?
Did Aether do something wrong the last time he was here?
The thought of that sits like a stone in Aether's stomach, adding to the heavy weight of his anxiety.
He can't sit around and wait.
Something tells him to go look for Venti instead of waiting.
"You really are like a mother hen sometimes, you know?", Paimon says when he asks her to come along.
"Paimon would love to come but...."
They look at the food that's still on the plate.
"Paimon is tired from getting up early and being busy all day."
"I can carry you."
Paimon puffs her cheeks and huffs.
"No way! Paimon isn't a little kid OR a pet! Noone carries Paimon around! Why don't we go look for him tomorrow? He's probably with that dragon anyways. Paimon will come if we wait until tomorrow."
She looks at him a little pleading and Aether can see a hint of concern bleed through.
"You should sleep, too, Aether."
He knows he should.
Aether sighs.
"I'm sorry Paimon, I need to check on him. Something feels... off."
Paimon pouts but nods.
"Paimon will save you a snack for when you come back."
Aether is out of the city faster than he planned to, worry and the growing knot in his stomach bite at his heels and drive him forward.
He decides to go to Starsnatch Cliff first to see if his friend is there but realizes quickly that it was pointless.
He does his best to avoid fights and obstacles on his way back to Windrise.
If Venti isn't there he'll look at Dvalin's Lair and then return to Mond.
He is already making a plan on how to get to Dvalin the fastest when he reaches the statue at Windrise.
He immediately knows that something is wrong.
Looking over the area it seems the same, nothing unusual, not even slimes or hilichurls.
But as soon as Aether steps up to the roots, his foot touching it's tip, the anxiety he'd had the entire time turns into cold, clawing fear.
His throat closes up and he gasps in shock of the sensation as it washes over him.
Aether stumbles back and has to lean against the statue, hold on to it, to keep himself upright.
He knows they aren't his own emotions, has experienced this once or twice before when connecting to statues of the Seven and somehow that knowledge makes it worse, because it means Venti is terrified.
He has to find him, quickly.
Aether fights to push the feelings into the back of his mind and concentrates on the foreign feeling of wind rushing through his body as he leans closer to the statue, closing his eyes.
He can feel it flowing through him, around him, into the statue and back out and-
An image flashes up in his mind, blurry.
He sees the blue sky vaguely and a lot of strings and roots that obscure it. He can also see the river.
Aether let's go immediately and rushes around the tree to where the water would be visible, heart pounding.
He doesn't find Venti right away, mostly because the fear doesn't ebb off but becomes stronger the more he searches.
When he realizes why, he stops moving.
"Venti!", he calls.
No answer, but the fear spikes.
Aether has to blink, to get the tears out of his eyes from the intense feeling.
"Venti, it's Aether!"
He keeps searching and shortly after this he feels the fear lift a little and can think more clearly again.
"...ther.."
Aether freezes and turns to where the voice came from.
Carefully he approaches a spot overgrown with roots and bushes.
Venti is practically invisible behind it, with his green clothing.
He's pushed himself into a hollow at the tree's trunk behind them, like a miniature cavern. Aether can't see a lot with the gloomy lighting but Venti looks like he's slumped against the bark.
"Hey... Traveler", he greets and the faint glow of his braids and half lidded eyes shows just enough for Aether to realize there is blood on his face.
His heart almost stops.
He tries to get closer, but the roots make it impossible for him to reach, almost as if they'd grown there just to protect anyone from getting to Venti.
How did he even climb in there?
"Venti, what happened?", he asks softly, copying the soft tone the bard had used before. Venti looks at him as if he only heard half of it.
"Wait no, don't answer that. I'm here to help, can you move?"
Aether doesn't wait for an answer and instead starts pushing roots aside with more force.
Venti watches him the entire time, sometimes blinking rapidly as if to stay awake, so Aether continues to mumble what he's doing for Venti to concentrate on.
Finally, he reaches out but Venti shakes his head.
"Don't think I should move... right now."
"I can't get a look at you or help you in here", Aether explains and grabs for him anyways.
Before the bard can do anything against it, Aether has shoved his arms under his legs and behind his back and lifts him out of the hole.
He almost drops him when Venti screams in pain.
"Down! Aether!", he yelps right after, but Aether carries him further.
When he puts him down, it's in a spot he can prop Venti's back up against a large rock.
The bard is still holding onto him, fingers clawed into Aether's shirt, but let's go tohold his sode when he moves too sudden.
And then Aether finally catches sight of what happened.
He gasps in horror when his hands come away from Venti's stomach stained in red.
There is old blood plastering his shirt to his body and new that now seeps further into spots that used to be white.
Aether realizes that, whatever this wound came from, he just opened it up again.
But there is no time for blaming himself now.
"Venti. Venti look at me."
The bard is staring at his stomach, breathing heavily, and Aether has to practically force his head up to get his attention.
"Can you understand what I'm saying?"
Venti blinks. He looks tired.
He nods.
"Good. How long have you been here?"
"A day... maybe", is the quiet answer and Venti seems to struggle with even just that.
Aether's mind is racing.
A day with a wound like this would've killed any normal human.
Which Venti is not.
Should he leave him here? For the tree to heal him?
Venti answers the question before he can ask it.
"Isn't working. Not... healing."
He moans in pain when he tries breathing in deeply and then... doubles over, coughing and gasping for air.
Aether yells his name, doing his best to hold him upright, so he doesn't hit his head.
Venti coughs one more time, wheezing painfully, before he slumps against Aether.
He stops moving.
The blood in Aether's veins freezes.
"Venti! Venti, wake up!"
He doesn't think he's ever felt this cold.
Venti isn't responding and his breathing is too shallow.
The fear Aether feels is his very own this time.
He does his best to swallow around the panic, checking Venti's pulse and, upon finding it, lifts him up again.
Venti is so much lighter than he looks and Aether has to hold back a sob, when he feels the blood run down his hand.
Before he knows it, he's running.
He knows he shouldn't move someone with a wound like this, but he doesn't have any other choice to help him.
This way there is at least a chance of reaching Barbara before... before...
Aether concentrates on the wind around him and sprints.
Barbara is just about to leave the church when there is a ruckus from outside and the doors burst open, splintering in their hinges at the same time as Aether yells "HELP! I NEED HELP!"
She's at his side within a second and flinches in shock when she recognizes who Aether is carrying and what state the bard is in.
There is blood all over both of them and the look Aether throws her is one of feral desperation.
Barbara gets to work.
~
Venti had stopped breathing right when Aether had reached the steps of the Church of Favonius.
Aether still feels the dread and panic sit in his throat, which is why he hasn't taken his eyes off of the bard since Barbara told him to lay him down in the churches backroom.
A few hours ago, Venti had woken up, feverish and in pain, repeatedly mumbling what Aether believed to be the word "Himmel", before slipping back into a fitful sleep, brows furrowed and face screwed up in pain.
Eventually Aether starts switching between carding a hand through Venti's dark hair and running a finger along his brows and forehead as if to ease the creases out of it.
It works for a while.
Venti wakes up feeling like he got stomped on by a geo vishap.
His vision is blurry, everything hurts and he's still tired.
What keeps him from going back to sleep, however, is the body next to him.
When Venti looks down, he finds himself face to face with Aether.
He's snoring lightly, eyes moving behind closed lids.
A few lose hair strands hang into his face.
When Venti moves a little, Aether hums and then buries his face in the crook of Venti's neck.
He holds his breath and when he moves again, he realizes that Aether's hand is on his hip, holding him losely to his body.
Venti lets out the air he's holding in a stutter, doing his best not to disturb the other.
His heart is thumping loudly against his ribcage, fluttering every time Aether's breath hits his skin.
He almost forgets his own pain.
Almost.
He groans loudly when he tries to turn and suddenly Barbara is right next to him.
"You should move him if it hurts you", she says quietly without greeting but Venti shakes his head softly.
"I'm fine. Promise!"
Barbara smiles gently as she puts her hand on his forehead, nods a little and holds a straw towards him.
He drinks and makes a face at whatever medicine she's just given him.
She gives him another glass with straw and only water and he drinks it greedily.
"You were hurt pretty badly. Who attacked you?"
"Noone who will ever hurt anyone again", Venti replies cryptically and Barbara nods, although a little disapproving.
Then she nods to Aether.
"You were lucky he found you on time. You weren't breathing when he got here."
Venti swallows.
Not breathing? That was close.
"O...oh. Guess I'll have to thank him for that."
"You better. A lot of us would be in trouble without him. It's no surprise that he'd end up helping you out eventually as well."
Venti giggles softly.
If she only knew just how MUCH he owed Aether for.
Speaking of...
"What is he doing here still?"
"He insisted on staying. He was very distraught when he arrived and only calmed down when he was able to see you were breathing again."
She clicks her tongue disapprovingly when she add: "Ripped the church doors out of their hinges when he arrived."
Venti gapes at her.
"That's... kind of h-"
Barbara puts her hand over his mouth faster than he can finish and tries to look upset.
"I will not have this kind of conversation in our Lord Barbatos' church. What if he hears! Such frivolous words, bard."
Venti chuckles.
"Oh, I'm sure he'd agree with me."
"Blasphemy!", she hisses playfully and he laughs lightly and sticks his tongue out.
"You seem to be recovering well. I'll leave you to sleep some more. Kick the honorary knight out of bed if he hurts you."
She pauses shortly.
"I'm glad you're better, Venti. Don't go off alone next time."
With that she leaves.
Venti lets out a shuddering breath as he relaxes.
Aether mumbles something against his neck and Venti shudders under the sensation.
He experimentally runs his fingers over Aether's spine.
The other hums in his sleep.
Venti swallows his nerves.
He could let himself indulge in this.
This one time.
He closes his eyes and, as far as he can, curls closer into Aether, who's quiet snoring and slow breathing lulls him into a soft daze.
He turns his head to bury his nose in Aether's hair, feeling nothing but comfort and safety, before he fell back asleep.

Whumptober Day 3
No. 3 - STICKS AND STONES MAY BREAK MY BONES BUT…
taunting | insults | “Who did this to you?”
+++
Genshin Impact | Bennett, Fischl, Oz, and those other adventurers we know and love
(crossposted to AO3)
+++
“I didn’t ask for your help, Bennett! You only make everything worse!”
“I-I’m sorry, I just thought—”
“And now I have a chipped sword! Ugh, what am I going to do? I don’t have the mora or the ore to spare for a new one!”
“Y-yeah, but…”
Bennett wanted to point out to Royce that his sword was tarnished-looking and even had rust on it, so it probably was already in need of repair—this is why his dads always told him to take good care of his weapons!—but he didn’t really feel like he could. Because, it probably was his fault, still. All he wanted was to help, but…
“Oh, that was terrifying!” Pallad shook his head gravely, releasing a long breath. “All those Hilichurl reinforcements kept showing up, and then Bennett showed up, and then the pyro slime barrels all exploded, all at once. B-But not to worry, just another day of epic adventuring for me! Nothing to fear!”
“Yeah.” Royce huffed, his anger still very apparent. “Good thing those slime barrels didn’t kill us all.”
“I…didn’t set them off, though…” Bennett mumbled awkwardly. Pallad was the one who accidentally fired the arrow that hit them, not that Bennett was mad at Pallad or anything. Mistakes like that happened all the time! Plus, mistakes did happen a lot around Bennett specifically…
Bennett sighed heavily. He really only meant to help. He saw Royce and Pallad fighting Hilichurls together, and they looked like they were really struggling and could be in danger, so Bennett came in to help fight and also heal them up a little with his Vision, and they did drive off the Hilichurls, but…not without a few hiccups along the way. Like the barrels and Royce’s sword. And the additional wave of reinforcements. Maybe the Hilichurls just really liked this camp?
“But these things keep happening when you’re around! Why can’t you realize that? We would have been better off without you!”
“But, you looked like you needed help and—!”
“No, Bennett, just…just go, okay?” Royce let out a tense exhale, looking very stressed. He looked that way a lot when Bennett was around. “I’m not mad, I promise. Just…do everyone a favor and keep your adventures solo, okay?”
“O-Okay.” Bennett felt himself flinch, just a little. He…never said it quite like that, before. Maybe it was just that the more encounters they had, the more honest Royce got. Royce, and Heckler, and Jack…
“They’ll be back! They’re just…on leave,” he pleaded to Katheryne once, desperate to not have the face the finality of losing his team’s registration with the guild. He was so excited when he finally got people to agree to being on a team with him—he was so sure that they would all be great friends, and that they would go on many epic adventures together just like his dads did when they were young. Adventuring was his passion, and he couldn’t wait to get started for real! But then…well…it didn’t work out quite like he hoped.
It really stung, hearing Royce say it like that. Should he really just do as he said and stop…bothering everyone so much…?
“My ear harkens to the sound of mortal cries! What ill fate hath befallen thee?”
“F-Fischl!” Bennett was very surprised to turn around and see Fischl and Oz coming into view over the top of a hill and down into their camp, the Prinzessin der Verurteilung’s entrance as cool and grand as ever. Walking up to them, there was something about her expression that looked kind of intense, though. Bennett wasn’t really sure why; all of the Hilichurls were gone now, right?
“Oh, Fischl. What are you doing here?” Royce sounded very tired and still kind of annoyed.
“I heard from afar the expressions of woe and stress! Might I add, even the throbbing binds of a dark fury? It is of no mere happenstance that I, the Prinzessin der Verurteilung, should come down upon you at such an hour, that I may ask, why such stress, when the intensity of danger is clearly past, and why do you say words of fury, when whatever physical ailments you have are clearly of little consequence to one of the warrior’s creed?”
Royce sighed in exasperation. “I don’t have time for this…” he mumbled.
“O-Oh! Everything’s fine!” Bennett assured, getting what she was saying…maybe. (Fischl was really smart and also from other world, so she talked in complicated words a lot). “We just…had a little bit of trouble with some Hilichurls, that’s all! And we were…talking about what went wrong!”
“Yes, yes, what he said, there’s nothing going on, the Hilichurls are gone now.” Royce waved her off.
“Is that so? Then pray tell, why, if there is no danger, that distress still binds you so much that you would speak such ill of your comrades!”
“H-Huh?”
“What the Prinzessin means is, your words seem to be unfounded, judging from the…tone of your voice,” Oz translated. “Not to say that we were making any attempts to secretly listen to what was being said, of course.”
“I really have no idea what you’re talking about,” Royce groaned. “Just, please go back to whatever you were—”
“I was on a mission of dire importance, and I require that Bennett be my aide! Come, Bennett, there is a destination we must hasten to!”
“What?” Bennett was confused.
“Oh, why didn’t you say so?” Pallad laughed. “He’s all yours! Come on Royce, let’s head back to the city to turn in this commission!”
Fischl took Bennett by the hand and led him out, and Bennett hurried his step to catch up.
“What’s wrong?” he asked after they were a little ways away and Fischl stopped walking. “Where’s the danger?”
Fischl paused a second, turning back to look at him, as if considering what to say… “Are you hurt?”
Bennett’s eyes widened in a bit of surprise, partially because she said the question in so few words. Was that what this was about? But, he wasn’t even bleeding! “Oh! Uh, no, not really! Just a few knicks and bruises here and there, nothing I can’t handle!”
Fischl shook her head, clearing her throat. “Ahem, no, I do understand that your constitution is not the aspect at risk of failing you; what ailment I was referring to runs greater than bone or marrow, but rather, to the soul itself, the deepest recesses of your mind and heart. This, my fellow seeker of the unknown, is what mine eye hath perceived to be carrying the deepest of wounds.”
Bennett took a second trying to get what she was saying…and then turned to Oz for help.
“What she means—as well as myself—is…Bennett, we overheard some of what your…friend…said, and we wanted to know if you were alright. Because of his words, that is.”
“Oh…OH!” Bennett got it now. But… “I-It’s okay, he didn’t really mean it as bad as it probably sounded, just…um…” He looked away, rubbing the back of his neck. He didn’t want them to get mad at Royce for his sake, or anything. “Y-You know what they say! Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me! Right?”
That was how it went…right?
Bennett was used to pain—of every kind, really. It wasn’t a big deal.
“No!” Fischl was adamant, surprising him even further with the fierceness of her gaze. “I refuse to accept such a…a…a degradation of yourself!” She thrust out her arm to point at his heart, her other hand on her hip. “Your ill fate has nothing to do with yourself! Even if some grievous error was made that was your own folly, it would be no cause for allowing yourself to be cast to the side to descend into the vile throes of darkness!”
For a few long seconds, Bennett was dumbfounded and speechless. He really didn’t know what to say, he…he felt awkward, because he didn’t want anyone to worry about him or feel bad for him, but…it also…felt good, that she cared? “You…really think that?”
Fischl cleared her throat again. “Mm, yes indeed…I…simply cannot allow any member of my retinue to be considered in such a way. You should not…be condemned to be alone for the cause of the curse on you.”
“Ah, i-it’s okay!” Bennett assured with a wide smile. “I’m not alone entirely, even without my team! Not anymore, anyways! Me and Traveler have gone on a few adventures, and, um…I have my dads, and…I have you!”
They were in different sectors of the guild, him and Fischl, what with Fischl being an investigator and all. She was really good at remembering details, and not getting lost. Bennett knew his way around and remembered lots of survival skills, but he wasn’t as smart as she was. He was best at mainly just going in and fighting stuff while exploring. But, they did get to work together sometimes! And those times were always nice.
“Well then, let us embark on this next mission together, as you have been thusly requested.”
“Really?” Bennett asked. “You weren’t just making something up?”
“Never in the death of a thousand suns!” Fischl refuted emphatically. “My pledge is my sacred word, and yes, I believe that your assistance would be much needed indeed!”
