Question for any plant savvy peeps -so I found this guy kicked up on Mister’s morning walk and thought I’d try to rescue it. But as you can see in 2nd and 3rd pics, the stem of the flower is busted. The bulb looks good though but since I’m not familiar with these types of plants, should I even bother trying to replant it? Such a happy harvest of fallen fruit from our feijoa trees that I’ve gathered up from the ground. Our second crop, only this time not blighted as much by the wretched guava moth! The guava moth traps and Neem worked. Only downside is they have dropped a bit early which means smaller fruit. Apparently this is due to lack of water and I should have been watering the trees in this super dry weather. Our soil behind our deck is very alkaline (~8), so the azaleas were grumpy. I’ve been trying to fix it with peat moss. It seems to be working - the azalea’s leaves stopped browning! (I do need to check with the actual soil meter again, though. 😅) It’s helping the Tina Sargent Crabapple too, I think? These #farmkids (children of neighbors in the farm) share our space on weekends and play with our boys. Sometimes when it gets too hot or they get bored running around or climbing trees, they borrow my 8-year-old's crayons and coloring books and work under the guava trees. Unlike all the other fruit trees in the garden, these guavas sort of just popped up out of nowhere. So I always tell these kids, be kind to the birds and the bats as they most probably are the ones who planted these trees for you. See how much you are enjoying their shade 😉😁 (they're like, "Yes, aunty..." ) . . Observing kids at play can be fun, and I'm enjoying the opportunity to provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment for them as they get along with our own children. Part of me is hoping they'd have beautiful childhood memories with our family.
