@mercatorwine was such a great project for great people. The exterior was just a part of the larger project but it is the first impression. Just like your home the exterior is like the first chapter of a book. The story begins there, the stage is set. You only have once chance to make that first impression. Photos are arranged in “after and before” format. #design #novascotiawine #mercator #exteriordesign #interiordesign #winerydesign #halifaxdesigner #wolfville #novascotia #roséallday (at Mercator Vineyards) https://www.instagram.com/p/CP0OxVZpEQu/?utm_medium=tumblr

We ended fabulous day two of our #HalifaxAdventure at the #GSDT with a hilarious rendition of #TheSoundofMusic, Maritimes style! I sang along (softly, as many didn't seem to be joining in, even though we could) and had, OMG, the best pan fried Haddock evar. I love the cheeky fun what was had with the show. Everything was hilarious, or touching, and very well performed and staged. The musicions were bang on, the actors generous and eneregetic, and the sets lovely. Two things especially stood out to me - First - #JakeWillet, the Mother Superior/Capt. "Lobster" von Trapp, and our server. Gorgeous voice, lovely human, beautiful emotive face. (I have a wee crush, I'm not gonna lie). He is a playwright and in the upcoming production of #Kamp, so go see him. You won't regret it. Second - #NovaScotiaWine community: WHERE DO I BUY #TIDALBAY in Ontario?? Oh. My. God. This is the absoloute epitome of Cool Climate perfection with a nose and bouquet that made me want to dab it on my pulse points. Dear lord. Also, I forgot that in a fit of self congrats and #editingexhaustion I had booked our tickets mere moments after turning over #TheAccidentalCollection to my editor. So when the reservation form asked if we were celebrating something, I said yes. Before act three, #TheAccidentalTurnSeries got a shout out! Wee! #wine #whitewine #jostwinery #dinnertheatre #theatre #spoof #satire #authorsdayout #authorsofinstagram #LesFreysFemmes (at Grafton Street Dinner Theatre)

Just over a year ago, my friend @karenwoodeh messaged me from England, where she was living, and said: "There's this Nova Scotia wine and the shop near your place in Toronto has a few bottles in stock. Can you buy me one please?" Karen is now home, and tonight seemed like the appropriate evening to break it open. This @benjaminbridge #Nova7 was sweek, thick, with a gentle acidity that kept it from being cloying. Quite enjoyable! #wine #novascotia #novascotiawine #bubbly

“Tidal Bay has become emblematic of thee distinctive vibrant style produced by Nova Scotia’s unique cool-climate terroir,” writes Quench contributor Sean Wood. The style Wood is referring to can be traced back to one man. Peter Gamble. Gamble has been immersed in the wine industry for over a decade, taking on many roles - from winemaking to winery management and even Director of the Vintners Quality Alliance. He was lead consultant to @benjaminbridge in Nova Scotia; he still works closely with them as he develops the wines at @lwwines Tidal Bay’s appellation exists because of Gamble. He proposed the new designation in 2010; it was accepted because the terroir in Nova Scotia is so strong and impressive that leaving it unnamed would have been a loss for all wine lovers. “Nova Scotia is blessed with this,” says Gamble, “pierce, really defined sense of terroir in the wines. And to my mind, this terroir is as distinctive as in any wine region on the globe.” Wood put his palate to the test to see if he really could taste the terroir in Gamble’s wines. Here is Wood’s review of LIGHTFOOT & WOLFVILLE TIDAL BAY 2015: “Opening floral and yellow fruit scents are accented wth a trace of green herb. Delicate citrus and stone fruit flavours are supported by the appellation’s signature chalky mineral, bright acidity with softening creaminess and a judicious touch of residual sweetness on the deftly balanced finish.” (Score 90) #winewednesday #tastingnotes #quenchmagazine #winemaker #instawine #vineyard #wineoclock #winelover #novascotia #novascotiawine #tidalbay #tidalbaywine #canadianwine #whitewine #winereview #winetasting #coolclimate

The Nova Scotian wine region, Tidal Bay, is redefining the meaning of terroir. “Tidal Bay has become emblematic of the distinctive vibrant style produced by Nova Scotia’s unique cool-climate terroir,” writes Quench contributor, Sean Wood. Pictured is Simon Refuse, the winemaker at @blomidonestate since 2009 and one of the key players in redefining Canada’s maritime wine identity. Wood tasted Blomidon’s Tidal Bay 2015 blend (L’Acadie Blanc, Seyval Blanc and New York Muscat), writing: “Fresh green orchard fruit scents are accented with floral and piquant green herbal notes. Bright green fruit flavours play through on the palate, initially showing green apple then citrus with crisp acidity, firm mineral and a trace of stone fruit on the finish.” #winewednesday #tastingnotes #winemaker #winereview #winecountry #wineroad #quenchmagazine #winelover #winoclock #winestagram #instawine #novascotia #novascotiawine #canadianwine #lacadieblanc #seyvalblanc #muscat #tidalbay #terroir #tidalbaywine #whitewine #whiteblend

Nova Scotia bubbles are stealing the spotlight
Nova Scotia bubbles are stealing the spotlight #novascotiawine
It is really exciting to watch an emerging wine region come into its own. Nova Scotia is such a place, with only twenty-five years of commercial production history, though vines were cultivated as early as the 1600’s. The hallmark style of wine for me is sparkling, and while there is good to great still white wine being made, the traditional method sparkling wines really steal the show. The…
