Looking down on 3 million people, I’m bound to lose some resolution. I miss everyone’s unique humanity. They’re to small to be seen, even as dots. Then I’m forced to consider myself as too-small-to-be-seen. Forced to remember that you’re just as small as they are. I strip myself of my infinite self-importance, just as I strip those below me. I become infinitesimally small and am left with one thing to do.
Stop Worrying and Enjoy the View.

Grill your leader
This Sunday, we took a short break from our ‘Who are the Disciples?!’ series in G2 Youth, and instead had a session called ‘Grill Your Leader’.
‘Grill your leader’ is a specific opportunity for G2 Youth to come up with the hardest and most confusing questions they can… mostly about ‘faith stuff’… with some embarrassing personal ones thrown in for good measure.
Some of the questions included:
‘Why is there pain and disease in the world?’
‘What is your most embarrassing moment?’
‘Why is the Bible called the Bible?’
‘Is there enough water to flood the entire earth?’
We start by pointing out that we might not know all the answers, and that’s OK; we can try to find answers, but our faith isn’t based on every little detail and challenge, but on Jesus.
I love ‘Grill your leader’, as scary and challenging as it is; some questions die a death as the only possible response is a sort of cliché tautology, or logical fallacy… but others lead to GREAT discussions!
Time set aside to answer one another’s difficult questions is incredibly valuable – and the Bible says we’re meant to teach one another, and build each other up in this way.
Though still important, let’s focus less on delivering well planned talks in cell group and church, and instead make sure we’re open enough to talk through what’s actually challenging to us.
As for the ‘what’s your most embarrassing moment?’… I did tap dancing when I was little, and told the youth about a show in which I wore emerald green suit trousers, and bow tie with a white short sleeve shirt, while performing step-ball-changes around a large dance floor… needless to say, demonstrating a step-ball-change to G2 Youth has now become my new most embarrassing moment!
*This is not me in the picture... I looked far worse!
