Mile and Apo added some new interesting info on the movie during this interview:
(this part is only about man suang, i cropped out the rest)

A fan found out that the tree in the last story up here is a jujube tree:
The importance of jujube trees in the thai tradition
According to historical records, Jujube trees -- known as pud sa in Thai -- were a favourite of King Naresuan, a great monarch during the Ayutthaya period. Over three centuries ago, King Naresuan ordered them to be planted in the palace area to express his gratitude after an incident where the elephant he was riding stumbled in battle but was prevented from falling by a Jujube tree. Much later, King Rama V also ordered hundreds of these trees to be planted in Ayutthaya, and invited local people to freely pick their fruit to engender a sense of civic pride.
The park has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1991.

During THE HIDDEN CHARACTER event Pond said that Man Suang will be the first thai movie to be premiered simultaneously in many foreign countries 💥!!!!!!!
They chose some countries where they know they have a fanbase thanks to the KinnPorsche World Tour such as Singapore, Korea, Philippines, Vietnam, Taipei, Hong Kong but also other countries like Indonesia ,Malaysia, Japan, Australia and so on…
Pond also said that they’re going to finish filming by the middle of may (so apparently not before the woody talk event like they suggested)
Mile and Apo talked about Man Suang during the press conference:
Question to Mile: can you talk about the bruises you got when filming Man Suang?
Mile: it's simply just an accident, there are some scenes that are a little bit too intense and it's normal for an accident to happen. My shoulder once got dislocated during the shooting of kinnporsche, that was the first time. It was something a little bit too intense and made this area (shoulder area) to get easily injured and it hurts a lot but it will recover in 2-3 weeks. Now there’s a little bruise but it's nothing serious. It's normal for an accident to occur
Apo: fans are worried because he's someone who gets bruised easily 😅
Mile: Not on the outside but here (*points to his heart*) 😂 I got to play one joke today 😂 I didn't get to see a doctor. I consulted my brother about it. He's a doc/physician and he has his other doctor friends so he told me to take this med and that med. I also did take care of myself because at that time I was very busy every day… we also went to India during that time. So i didn't have time to go see a doctor. So I was being careful at that time. Yes, it happened but I was happy
Apo: because it's a memory
Mile: Yeah it's a memory (*points at apo and himself*) and I heard people say that if we're careful enough we will still get hurt but if we aren't careful at all, we'd get hurt more than this
Listening: I've been playing a lot of Beat Saber so my beat saber tracks have been stuck in my head, most notably Weapon of Choice by Fatboy Slim.
youtube
Reading: About halfway through A Memory Called Empire, which is great. I love a fucked up huge space empire. I am forcing myself to internalize the pronunciation of the Teixcalaanli words because I know otherwise I would just silently read through them.
AMCE gets into it fast and throws a lot of political machination out at you which lands well, the vicarious experience of having to think on your feet about complex social protocol is a lot of fun, it's honestly a much better fit for books than, say, swordfighting.
Didn't take my book with me this morning and while flipping through my ebooks on my phone I noticed that my Google Books copy of Nona the Ninth had an update? there's a small play at the end of the book with Palamedes and Ianthe bargaining over Naberius Tern's body. Absolutely wild. Palamedes does a Phoenix Wright OBJECTION! shout. It's great.
Watching: Avatar 2: Way of Water. Hoo boy. I am so mixed on the Avatar movies. They're not very good, from a storytelling perspective, but they're so much fun to watch. Beautiful animation, lovingly thought through world and set design, hot cat people, and some of the worst narrative you've ever heard.
They're back because in the intervening 15 years from Avatar 1 the earth is now dying and they want to colonize Pandora? Sure, okay, but that's definitely sudden and weird. They're also still harvesting a valuable resource from Pandora, because otherwise they wouldn't be able to do the metaphor, but now it's whale oil that stops ageing. Great. Also it's now proven that even as far back as Avatar 1 it was totally possible to back someone's brain up to a flash drive, and they've resurrected the evil general from there.
Okay wait. They can back up your brain and put it into a lab grown catboy hybrid but we're also harvesting immortality whale oil? Surely we have already solved immortality in this setting. Just back up your brain!
There's also... the rest of the movie. Characters have such muddled motivations, why is this kid who was raised by the Na'vi and knows the general was a murderous bastard helping the murderous bastard brainclone. Why is Neytiri written to have no more than 12 seconds of foresight.
Look, I love the idea of Avatar. There are no doubt incredible lorebooks with details on all the animals and machines and cultures out there, I remember watching the Sideways video on the original designs for Na'vi music that got scrapped because it sounded too weird, I love a crazy xenobio worldbuilding project, it's just not a very good story.
Playing: Dark Souls, made it through the Four Kings and the Bed of Chaos, now I'm into the Catacombs. I will finish my video cuts at some point.
Making: Nothing much this week, small sewing repairs. I did not see much of the aurora, just some faint red skyglow on Friday evening, so no photography.
Tools and Equipment: If you forget to do something at work surprisingly often you can just tell someone "hey sorry I lost track of that" and they will not be that mad at you. but watch out.
I was a little unsure of what character of mine to do. But I decided to do the second most important main character of mine, and one of my favourite little gremlins, Dusk!
1. Are you named after anyone?
"No. I'm not named after anyone. Even my old name wasn't either, as far as I'm aware."
2. When was the last time you cried?
"...Probably not since I regained my memory. That... that broke me a little I think. Nothing could really compare to that, and I hope nothing does."
3. Do you have kids?
"Hahaha, do I have kids? I know I'm fairly young, but I'm not exactly looking for that. I don't think I've considered having kids before... Actually, I don't think I've ever considered settling down."
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
"As much as anyone else I guess. It gets a bit boring having to be so serious and focused all the time. Although, I don't want to ever be as laid back as Zenith. I don't think that man has a single serious bone in his body."
5. What's the first thing you notice about people?
"Their eyes. Well, of course, I notice their appearance and outfit first. But I take note of their eyes first."
6. What's your eye colour?
"I- It's hard to explain. Dawn once described it as 'A mirror, reflecting every possible colour'. It's not really a colour, but what do you expect? I've died once before, I'm not exactly normal."
7. Scary movies or happy endings?
"I don't think any scary movie could compare to what I've lived through and done before. That being said, I like a good happy ending. It's something to cheer me up."
8. Any special talents?
"*sigh* Everybody has innate abilities or attributes, of course. So saying 'Oh, I can create light!', it doesn't really mean much... I guess I can't bleed? Or do you mean like a party trick? Because I don't have anything like that, if that's what you mean."
9. Where were you born?
"In an alley probably. It was on the very outskirts of humanity. The frayed edge of the city, on the border of safety. I don't remember much of it though, left that place around... six I think?"
10. Do you have any pets?
"No... don't know where I'd get one either. Most normal animals are extinct, and good luck trying to tame an Unholy one."
11. What sort of sports do you play?
"None, but if I were to play one... What's it called when two people fight with swords as a sport? Duelling? I guess I'd do that."
12. How tall are you?
"I don't know... last I checked I think it was right under 180 centimetres. 178 maybe?"
13. What was your favorite subject in school?
"Never went to school. I do like learning about history though."
14. What is your dream job?
"...Maybe, the owner of a small cafe. Hearing stories, getting to know the regulars. Sounds nice..."
.
As for the tags, I'll tag @decadentpandawasteland, @xenascribbles, @mk-writes-stuff, and anyone else that wants to of course ❤

yeah the reviews weren't exaggerating this movie is fucking awful. probably one of the worst video game movies in recent memory. pretty much everything about it is horrible. don't know where to begin so i'll just list off my random thoughts about the movie
the visual effects are terrible. this movie visually looks like the VFX team didn't have a budget or didn't have any time to make this movie look even remotely competent. like some of the things in this movie look like a PS2 cutscene. i will say as a positive that claptrap consistently looked great and was thing i thought looked good. that positive is automatically retracted when i learned that the people that worked on claptrap specifically were not credited for their work
i know everyone is saying it but everyone in this is hilariously miscast. kevin hart as roland was ridiculous but honestly he didn't bother me that much in the actual movie. cate blanchett as lilith and jamie lee curtis as tannis were WAY worse. they're both too old for these roles especially given that in the movie tannis is supposed to be like, 30 ish years older than lilith. bitch these two characters don't look that far apart in age??? jack black as claptrap was annoying as fuck. just sounded like he was doing a bad impression of the original VA. another positive is that i thought the guy playing marcus was pretty good. he looked and sounded like the character but he's in like. 2 scenes and then you forget he exists. also i dont see a lot of people talking about this so it may just be me but moxy looked really old for the role as well. she's literally in 1 scene and thats it so it doesn't matter that much but it did stand out to me.
movie is insanely unfunny. nothing else to say. the attempts at "jokes" here were embarrassing
very confused as to who this movie was made for as it doesn't respect the source material in any way but also has a ton of references to the games that non fans would not understand.
not sure if this is true but this movie felt like it was originally rated R but it was trimmed down to be a PG-13 rating. why is a movie based off of a franchise with rated M games PG-13??????
every scene felt super rushed and you never get to know any of these characters or care about them. the writing and character development were very hollow and superficial. i know the borderlands games are not peak fiction when it comes to writing but you still come to like and care about these characters. in this movie, im like damn i dislike all of you lol
this entire movie has "was in development hell for almost 10 years" vibes all over it. it permeates throughout the entire thing. i couldn't stop thinking about how it took almost a decade for this movie to be shit out onto the big screen
w. w. why did they change tiny tina's backstory and why is it 100000000000% pointless.
( jessica alexander, cis woman, she/her ) — just announced, LENNON HARLOW has been cast as EMMA GILBERT in the upcoming H2O: JUST ADD WATER reboot. the twenty five year old is trending as people are debating if the coming home to the echo of an empty house devoid of memories, her trailer always stocked with sour gummies as a guilty pleasure, paint stained overalls as a stark contrast to shimmering gowns on the red carpet, head filled to the brim with movie anecdotes and trivia that they are known for is enough to make them as good as original. a quick google search shows that their fans call them conscientious, but internet trolls think they’re more aloof. i guess their newest interview for variety where they talk about the odd coincidence of continuously being cast for characters with the name emma will let people to know them better.

place of birth : los angeles, california.

dislikes : unexpected loud noises, when things don't go according to plan, people who are rude, her own birthday, driving, being late, the cold.
background.
— her earliest childhood memories were of lights, camera and action. not much of a surprise, as the daughter of one of hollywood's it couples. her father was the successful director julian harlow and her mother australian movie star and it girl emilia morris. lennon was supposed to be the sum of both their parts, and a star in the making from the moment she was born.
— stability was a rarity in her childhood. she was raised on movie sets, with her legs dangling from her father's director chair as she watched him work his magic. but she also fell asleep alone inside of lifeless hotel rooms, was homeschooled by a new teacher in every new city they visited and when asked, would have told you her best friend was joan from craft service who would sneak her snacks between takes.
— her own experiences were nothing like she movies she ended up making. she had her very first kiss on screen, and the only prom dress she ever wore was on set. you could almost say her childhood was the dichotomy of living a sheltered life, but right in front of flashing cameras.
— knowing only a world which was mature and professional, that was who she soon grew into. she has never been described as anything other than a pleasure to work with, and receives praise for being great at her craft. undoubtedly because it is all she knows.
— living life caught up in the industry has given her quite a skewed image of friendship, and relationships. friends was often synonymous with coworkers. and her public relations agents buried their noses into every relationship she had. everything felt transactional. not in a way where she aimed to profit, but in a way where everything was carefully curated to be mutually beneficial.
— as a stark contrast to her pristine image among colleagues, her public persona is cast in a dark shadow. professional gets translated into unapproachable, and talented becomes arrogant. and there isn't a way to show them any different. she is quite detached from the fans, her social media accounts perfectly curated and showing not a single hair out of place. her interviews are bright smiles, with vetted questions and practiced answers.
— now realization has settled in of just how little she knows herself. and how utterly alone she feels in a world where she's surrounded by thousands. she grew up under the scrutiny of not just herself and those close to her, but the entire world and it has made her withdraw rather than face things head on. and for someone who has done so much in her life, she lacks any kind of life experience. maybe she is looking to feel something, seek out something that feels genuine and open herself up to new experiences even when stepping outside her limited comfort zone gives her the chills.
— her decision to audition for emma gilbert was the first step in tearing herself away from that state of oblivion. doing the show became a passion project, and stood in stark contrast to the countless of auditions she attempted for blatant oscar bait. she keeps her fingers crossed it will help her figure out what it was she wanted out of her career, first of all. connect more to her audience, and those around her. and maybe figure out more about herself too in the process.
— maybe as some fun facts about her. she is an avid but amateur painter. she does paint canvases most of the time. but also has a knack for home improvements, knows how to work a drill and can't stop herself from turning her entire house upside down at least once every few weeks. slept on the couch for a whole month while she painted a giant mural on her bedroom wall. she has a cat named ringo, part time menace and full time artiste. would strut all over her canvases as she laid them out to dry and ever since, the cat paw has become a signature of sorts. has the odd coincidence of being cast as emma's consistently. once is nothing, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern. also a huge movie buff. she's got a head full of anecdotes, film quotes and movie trivia. in part because she grew up so closely around it, but also because it's what she genuinely loves. take her with you on your pub quiz team js.

wanted connections.
because i am woefully unprepared for this part and lennon is a brand new character, i'll be focusing on plotting any type of connections (positive or negative, and platonic or romantic) in direct messages. through brainstorming, i will throw some suggestions at you based on how i think lennon would mesh with your muse(s). below there will still be a list of specific wanted connections i am looking for, which i'll continue to update throughout. if this is something you're interested in, please do let me know and i would love to chat more about it!
— role model: maybe this muse could've worked with her father when lennon was just a kid. she would have tagged along to the film set, and watched them perform and likely learned so much from them (implicitly). maybe they are somewhat of a mentor figure to her now, maybe they were somewhat of a friend and reuniting now, maybe they never noticed her and she's looking up to them to this day.
— (fr)enemies: maybe they think she is stuck up, or a bore. maybe she thinks they are quick too judge. they can't stand each other but under the guise of being professionals, they have to make everyone believe that's not the case. bonus points for an enemies with benefits scenario where they are sneaking around the backs of everyone else. more bonus points, them causing an absolute pr nightmare that she'll never live down when they get into a public fight.
— childhood friend: maybe someone she's known since she was a kid, and who contrary to most sees right through the cold facade. maybe they have always been friends and they are one of the people she's always comfortable around. maybe they've lost touch and they are reconnecting now. maybe they had a falling out but they have been one of the most genuine connections she's had.
— good / bad influence: opening herself up to new experiences, would make it easy for her to fall into the hands of someone willing to help with that. maybe your muse can (aladdin vc) show her the world. with good or bad intentions.
— first kiss: the two of them were cast together as young teens, and lennon had her very first kiss with this person. right in front of the cameras. maybe it turned incredibly awkward between them and it's still something she doesn't dare mention? maybe it gave her an awfully unrequited crush on them? maybe they still laugh about how they bumped heads together at least three times during takes?
(Disclaimer: this post contains spoilers for the FNAF movie, and isn't being made to invalidate anyone's opinions on the material. You can like/love the movie, and/or dislike/hate the movie! Also this started as a post talking about how people say it's inaccurate to the games but it actually isn't, then eventually turned into my review of it lol.)
What I keep hearing around the internet:
"This is nothing like the games, it's supposed to be an R-rated gorefest! We should've seen all five kids get brutally slaughtered and stuffed into the animatronics, not whatever that stupid intro sequence was. The games showed it so why couldn't the movie do the same?"
"Why are the animatronics friendly with Abby? That's not how it is in the games, the animatronics kill anyone regardless of age."
"It's hardly even scary, the games were much more terrifying than this."
"Why is the movie so focused on the story? It's supposed to be about bloody murder and revenge."
"This isn't a horror/comedy series, what the hell."
What FNAF games are like:
-Mild to barely any gore; the most gruesome of content visually is shown via pixel minigames (Mainly FNAF 2, 3 & 4, & SL) or minor gore like the eyes popping out of the Freddy head in FNAF1's game over screen, as to not be too violent for its rating, E-12
-Animatronics are corrupted by the spirits of dead children (Missing Children's Incident (MCI) newspapers from FNAF 1), exacting vengeance on adults because of their killer, but being friendly toward other children
--"Uh, by now I’m sure you’ve noticed the older models, sitting in the back room. Uh, those are from the previous location, we just use them for parts now. The idea at first was to repair them. Uh, they even started retrofitting them with some of the newer technology." (FNAF2 - NIGHT 2)
--"Someone may have tampered with their facial recognition systems, we’re not sure. But the characters have been acting very unusual, almost aggressive towards the staff. They interact with the kids just fine, but when they encounter an adult, they just…stare." (FNAF2 - NIGHT 4)
--I'm using the calls from FNAF 2 in reference here because it is a prequel to FNAF 1, and as far as I can tell, it was confirmed the withered animatronics from 2 are modified to become the ones in 1 ("But they were just so ugly, you know? And the smell…ugh." (FNAF 2 -- NIGHT 2) "If I were forced to sing those same stupid songs for twenty years and I never got a bath? I’d probably be a bit irritable at night too." (FNAF 1 -- NIGHT 1))
-The games are relatively scary in the aspect of environmental horror; dim lighting, sounds that have no origin and/or are meant to trip you up & make you uneasy, characters suddenly appearing in the doorways/entrances to your office; they are also heavily jumpscare-reliant, you either win or get jumped by one of the animatronics
-The storytelling format through the games evolved over time (mainly focusing on Scott era games (FNAF1-UCN)) with more voice actors and whatnot, but the early trilogy solely relied on phone calls which were written to be morbidly awkward and funny despite the circumstances
--In later games, the plot develops as Michael Afton (our (debatable) main protagonist across the franchise) goes after the restaurants & the killer, his father William in an attempt to set the children's spirits free
What the FNAF movie is like:
-Mild to barely any gore, most we see is through pixel animation (the kids being lured away through the intro sequence) OR minor gore in dark lighting/silhouettes as to not be too violent for its rating, PG-13
-Animatronics are corrupted by the spirits of dead children, exacting vengeance on adults because of their killer (who in this case is manipulating their perception of memories to be their friend and ally), but being friendly toward other children
--The only exception to this is when they are corrupted by William Afton's influence, in the case of them attempting to put Abby in a springlock suit (that looks like the Ella dolls from the books but I think is intended to be this universe's Circus Baby because of Abby's anagram name for Baby)
-The movie is relatively scary in the aspect of environmental horror; dim lighting, sounds that have no origin and/or are meant to trip you up & make you uneasy, characters suddenly appearing in the doorways/entrances to the office; they are also heavily jumpscare-reliant (Foxy's runs down the hallway, the infamous Balloon Boy jumpscares, any instances of the animatronics throughout the film suddenly moving to kill or attack characters (Bonnie in the closet killing Hank, Freddy's spirit pulling Max in for the kill, Chica sending Karl through the vent after the older brother of Max & at Mike later in the movie), the Fritz/Foxy kid jumpscare during the dream sequence, Abby being suddenly pulled up from the ballpit to then cut back to Mike hearing her scream, I could go on but I think I made the point)
-The storytelling in the film, while not spectacular by any means, is synonymous to the writing in the games, where there's this awkwardness and humor to a lot of the story because of just how nonsensical it all is (which YES, admittedly kills the environmental horror atmosphere in parts of the story, even I can admit to that)
-While Mike, Abby and Garret aren't related to William in the film, they are clearly parallels to Michael, Circus Baby/Elizabeth and Crying Child in the games
--I would like to point out that Vanessa takes on the role of being William's daughter who wants to make him happy, which is more-so what Elizabeth is as a character, except she isn't partaking in the bloodshed, but she is pretty much a bystander to it all
--I mention Circus Baby in relation to Abby more than Elizabeth because Abby has more of a sarcastic wit and just generally feels closer in personality to Baby's in SL
(Okay now here's my stance on the movie, please read this before reblogging or commenting, it's important for context)
I feel like a lotta people (mainly the ones currently in their late teens & overall 20s-plus) forget a majority of the fanbase were in the target demographic nearly a decade ago when the games started (which was scary to many including myself back then), and now act like it's obligated to "grow up" to more mature content with its initial user base who are now grown adults. But there's still a LOT of young kids who are into the franchise now (again, the intended target demographic is young teens), and it wouldn't make sense if the scary-to-kids-but-not-really-to-adults jumpscare video game suddenly became some SAW-esque R-rated gruesome slasher film when that is never what the franchise was meant to be, nor did it ACT like that's what it was. If you want that, Wally's Wonderland is right there.
There's so much fan entitlement going on regarding the movie right now, it's deranged. You can dislike or hate the movie all you want, I have criticism for it too. I do feel like the tone shifted back and forth a lot, but not in the way where it would make sense for the storytelling. It could've been a lot better written in general, and the exposition dumps Vanessa has throughout could've easily been replaced with a newspaper about the MCI up on the wall while Mike's first walking through the pizzeria, him reacting to the smell from the rotting corpses in the bots, have one of Phone Guy's original recordings play or have the woman from the training video treat the video format in a similar vein.
The way I see it, I had low expectations going into the film and just expected general stuff from the initial game or two in an adjacent, but not exact, adaptation. I've been doing this low-expectation thing since Detective Pikachu, but always try to be optimistic. And the FNAF movie was pretty much exactly what I figured it would be, based on how its story is described through the Phone Guy calls and the post-Sister Location approach of dry/morbid humor mixed in with actual movement, beyond the sit-&-survive office we got used to in the first handful of titles. I really only expected that the animatronics were gonna be friendly with Abby based on FNAF 2's calls, and it was a solid prediction.
Was it a scary movie? No, not really. The jumps got me plenty, especially Max's death cause holy shit I wasn't expecting someone to get chomped in half (and also Balloon Boy, fuck you you little bastard), but the story wasn't scary. It was honestly a tragedy of events going on across all the characters, just really sad but more of a horror-mystery I suppose.
And again, you are allowed to have an opinion and not be satisfied with what was provided in the film. I think there's a lot of room for improvement, and I think it was LS Mark who pointed out in his video that this was Scott and his cowriters' first screenplay, so I agree that they should've had a couple other writers who mainly write films to help form it into a better story for a movie. But it was a serviceable adaptation, and was accurate to the level of extremes being depicted in the games (and no, not all of it works for film, but that's okay to be satisfied or dissatisfied with). And it is fucking exhausting seeing people act like FNAF was always some super horrifying mature adult thing when that's just what the fanmade horror content like FNAF VHS is (Don't support FNAF VHS tho, its creator's a creep who sent NSFW shit to an underage kid knowingly for several years :/ Nasty af).
I think its positives & negatives are generally the same as the Pokemon, Sonic & Mario adaptations as of recent, where you're having to form an entire 90-120 minute movie based off of a few voice lines or body language of the non-speaking characters, and a generally simple plotline. So it typically leads to serviceable movies, but nothing groundbreaking or a masterpiece by ANY means of the term (basically like 50-70% out of 100%, average but not above that from a writing standpoint; I personally have it at 8/10 because it definitely satisfied what I thought it was gonna be, though it's based on personal enjoyment and not its writing/storytelling).
I haven't read the FNAF books and honestly have no interest in doing so, so they don't really matter to me, but I know for a fact this is mostly based on FNAF1 (Ik William going by an alias was a Silver Eyes thing but again, haven't read it so that's the only similarity to the books that I know of). And for what it is, it did its job.
Recent video game film adaptations are very good at making fans happy with references, the similar storylines, and mostly game-accurate depictions of its characters. I think the biggest problem with them is that they stick so close to the games' stories, which are simplified for the sake of the gameplay loop, that the writers for these films are almost afraid to take risks and change a few things up in the way it's told in order to properly adapt & expand the story into a film format. Personally I think Sonic did it best so far based on its source material (though not by a lot), but I liked this movie about the same as Mario's.
It hit all the beats I figured it would hit based on the trailers, and I do feel bad for the people who didn't enjoy it the same way I did, even if their expectations were low or similar to my own. But Scott said in a recent post that he's been listening to people's criticism for the movie, and he generally takes good-faith criticism to heart for better products in future content as far as I've seen it over the years. So hopefully for the near-inevitable sequel, we'll get to see the wrinkles in the first movie's adaptation ironed out in the next film.
am now well over halfway through my oscars challenge based on my own secret formula (aka guesstimating) so here is my ongoing microreviews post, for those curious
for some reason when i started writing i did this in order of # of nominees. don’t ask ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
oppenheimer: way too long. even cillian murphy, who was great, cannot sustain 3 hours of biopic. i felt his character development was unearned and rushed. the acting was good all around (though it was so man heavy that i sort of forgot emily blunt was there, surprising that she got that nomination when may december is RIGHT there) and it was gorgeously shot but it just needed a solid edit both in writing and runtime. one of those movies that made me feel stupid bc everyone else liked it. to the tune of 13 noms :/ (i have been told by many that you need to see it in a theater. well then don't release it for home viewing i guess, sorry!) (edit - having watched maestro rustin and napoleon 👎 three mid to bad biopics - this has warmed in my memory)
poor things: mixed feelings. overhyped doesn’t cover it. beautiful to look at. great acting from everyone including emma stone and mark ruffalo who is having simply the time of his life. it’s very funny which i wasn’t expecting! but it felt all a little too affected, a little too Intentionally Weird. idk i really wanted to love it but it was just sort of like okay! watched that! ✅
killers of the flower moon: enjoyed it a lot. i thought lily gladstone was amaaaaazing - their role had potential to just be like melodrama and one-note but they brought so much depth to it. leonardo was fine but of the white people deniro was the standout. too long of course. i alternately remember it as better or worse than it felt in the moment, but even though i wasn't in a theater it was still a good time
barbie: my brother loved this and i thought it was okay. the first half in barbieland and her first fish out of water scenes in the real world were a ton of fun, and it sort of got boring-er from there. visually very clever and fun. but the politics were hollow. relationship between america ferrera’s character and her daughter was unconvincing. the last scene pissed me off so much bc it was just totally unnecessary- should have (spoiler) ended with her putting her heels down and the audience can infer the rest be saved 5 minutes of runtime. (you’ll be shocked to hear i thought this was too long)
maestro: awful. manages to flatten felicia bernstein and somehow doesn’t replace that missing character with anything of substance. neglects to focus on what made bernstein actually interesting by putting basic stock biopic oscar bait scenes together and forgetting about his actual life and accomplishments. i went in knowing i wouldn’t like it but hoping there’d be redeeming qualities and found nearly none. even the best scene - his conducting the mahler resurrection symphony - pales in comparison to just finding the real video of bernstein conducting which is available for free on youtube.
american fiction: great. in theaters so no concept of length but it didn’t drag too much. jeffrey wright did an AMAZING job - so funny and also so grounded. made me cry early on too which i was Not expecting lol. definitely some 😬 moments for me as a white woman but i think that’s healthy for us once in a while. as a side note it was oddly preceded by 15 min of horror movie trailers which was bizarre
anatomy of a fall: LOOVED IT. broadchurch vibes. watched it with a friend who’s a lawyer so we kept pausing to theorize bc it is a great movie for that and she also provided commentary on the courtroom techniques of the lawyers lol. was also thinking about it hours and hours later. such a good film. even understood some of the french lol. big warning for pet illness though - the dog survives but it was not fun
the holdovers: nothing revolutionary but such a sweet little movie. not a huge amount to say about it - watched it on a plane and that was kind of the perfect vibe. i did think that da’vine joy randolph did a fantastic job. a good time. idk that it’s Best Picture worthy but who even knows what that award means
the zone of interest: technically impressive on every level (yes, including sound, which it should win) but i didn’t love it. i guess it’s just that i feel like “look! the mundanity of evil!” was not enough to carry this - it is SO mundane and SO jarring that halfway through i kept just being like “yeah yeah i get it” which itself is ironically kind of normalization but not the way the film intended. but i do think this is more a personal preference issue than actual issues with the movie.
napoleon: quite bad. boring, unfocused. couldn’t decide if it was about the marriage or his ambition and yet didn’t give josephine a character nor made thrilling battle sequences. unfortunately all i will remember is how they randomly used pride and prejudice’s soundtrack out of the blue (indicative of its equally unfocused score), and how joaquin phoenix had an american accent while everyone around him didn’t. also… too long!
the creator: pretty good! not a particularly innovative story but honestly it’s nice to see a good movie done right. hans zimmer rare W these days. john david washington still isn’t the greatest actor but it’s no big when ken watanabe is right there. the vfx are indeed very good. it even tackled western imperialism ok i thought though i obviously welcome discussion here!
past lives: beautiful touching etc. not an easy watch but i loved it. sort of found a great melancholy middle ground that didn’t feel maudlin but certainly wasn’t very happy. unbelievably that greta lee received no nomination for her phenomenal work (or teo yoo or john magaro for that matter). great length too - a perfect 1h45. just well done all around
society of the snow: great little disaster movie if slightly uneven. gorgeously shot for one thing. the tension is well done though i think it ended too… tidily. the fundamental problem i have tho is that if i was in their situation i’d have no qualms about eating people but that’s not the movie’s fault. the music reminded me of giacchino so i couldn’t help but make lost comparisons but that's also not the movie's fault lol. (edit: the music is literally BY giacchino and i thought i'd looked it up. it's a good score! he knows what he's doing!)
may december: LOVED IT!!! fantastic length, fantastic acting. as the great harry styles said it’s nice to see a movie that’s a real movie. i can’t wait to watch this again, i thought the writing was fantastic and it’ll gain a lot on rewatch too. would have loved more focus on the relationship with the kids, but that’s just because i personally found it fascinating. annoying it was only nommed for best screenplay when the acting was so good - yes especially charles melton!!
rustin: not as good as i wanted it to be. all the acting is fantastic especially (unsurprising) colman domingo, but i agree with reviews that said it avoided some of his more radical politics and that the love triangle was not super well executed, and i personally thought the end felt super rushed. it was just too biopic-y. but there was a lot to recommend it anyway just on acting alone though honestly
the color purple: enjoyed it a lot! never saw the original movie but it def smoothed away some stuff from the book in a way that doesn’t surprise me at all but was still too bad. there were clearly songs cut from the show bc there was a huge chunk in the middle with no singing lol. the acting was universally good but i cannot lie danielle brooks stole the show every second she was on screen. the music itself was great too and i think the director really dug into the musicalness of it which is so necessary in something like this. (end credits were particularly good!)
across the spiderverse: what is there to say about this that hasn’t been said. the first movie was much tighter in terms of plot / writing. the politics of this one were sort of a mess. but the animation was so spectacular that it sort of sanded over the flaws i saw in it in my memory and i'd be happy if it won
the boy and the heron: a lovely movie. miyazaki hasn’t lost it. i’d love for this to win best animated as i suspect it will. beautiful visually, very like pan’s labyrinth vibe plot wise. hard to say a lot here bc it was just very good, very solid. + miyazaki simply loves an old wrinkly lady and you know what i think that’s great. deserved a nom for score over fuckin indiana jones for sure
robot dreams: i wanted to adore this but instead i just liked it. it was beautiful and sweet and a nice love letter to new york and everything but i hated the ending lol. it’s a huge swing though with no dialogue and only one real song and you gotta give them points for that! plus it is genuinely sweet and everything. i just was pissed at the literal last scene lol
elemental: better than i expected it to be but still basically eh. some of the technical work is SO impressive - like the non-anthropomorphic water - that it actually highlights how Animated the characters are. but i don’t regret watching. highly recommend doing so stoned if that’s your jam because the animation really is the cool part - pixar’s stories have rly become very templated and boring
nimona: iirc a fun movie, but nothing like jaw dropping. can't evaluate it objectively though bc it wasn't the book and the book was better, unsurprisingly. i watched it a long time ago, it didn't leave a huge impression; i remember it was a cute adaptation. mainly i don't think nimona surpassed suzume (and pixar was always going to get that nomination no matter what), so mostly i'm bitter that suzume wasn't nominated sorry
dial of destiny: fell asleep the first time i watched it, got distracted the second time. it was... fine? the deaging was AWFUL, i'm glad it did not get a makeup or vfx nom, it literally just looked like a videogame and it still SOUNDED like 70yo harrison ford. the score was fine but the same thing john williams has been doing for this franchise since 1981. just like… an unnecessary movie idk
1. Qui-Gon Jinn: love or hate? Discuss. 13. What is your earliest Star Wars memory? 19. Quick fic inspired question: would you ever consider using a lightsaber hilt as a sex toy?
Thanks for the ask!
1. I honestly do not really have an opinion on Qui-Gon. Just don't think about him much.
13. My first distinct memory EVER was going to see the midnight premiere of Phantom Menace in theaters. I was four. I just remember it being such a big deal and people were at the theater in costume and there were cardboard cutouts of the characters and everything! And the movie blew my four year old mind, like that was the GREATEST thing I had ever seen, nothing else was like it.
I'll put 19 under a cut.
19. I would say the vast majority of lightsaber hilts aren't really suitable for that, but uh, you know? I think it could be fun for teasing. Like a proxy. Rubbing it against oneself, or holding/licking it in a way that implies another action. Just probably not, you know, actually putting it in holes.
Now I aaaam curious 🥰 Will you answer 1, 6, 11, 13, 20 for the book questions? 😇
Aloha! Indeed I will!!
6) Book you hope will be turned into a movie or TV show?
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir* and Recursion by Blake Crouch!
*Google says apparently this is gonna be made into a movie?? I DIDN’T KNOW THIS
11) Funniest book you’ve read
Oh this is TOUGH. There are a lot of AMAZING funny books out there. Honestly I think Much Ado About Nothing is probably the funniest in recent memory at least. (I have a shelf on Goodreads for my favorite funny books here!)
13) Favorite trope
Oooo maybe found family?? I don’t know this one actually. Is there a name for the trope that’s like “Character goes on odyssey and returns home so fundamentally changed so that the home they tried to return to, the home they idealized in their mind on the entire odyssey, no longer feels like home”? Bc if so, that’s my answer.
20) Last book that made you cry
Designing the Exterior Wall by Linda S. Brock, my textbook for the building envelope. I still get teary eyed if I look at the cover for too long. That book hurt me in a way no other book has ever hurt me before.
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
Why someone would make a sequel to 1976’s Carrie 23 years after the original, I don't know. Even if this had been released at the right time (if such a thing as a right time existed) this is a lazily-conceived, badly made film. The climax is more likely to leave you in hysterics than shivering in terror.
In 1999, outcast Rachel (Emily Bergl) hates life at home thanks to her unloving foster parents. After her best friend Lisa (Mena Suvari) commits suicide, Rachel learns a popular football jock, Eric (Zachery Ty Bryan), feigned love for the dead girl so he could sleep with and then dump her to impress his friends. All the football players are partaking in this game, even the seemingly sweet Jesse (Jason London), on whom Rachel has a crush.
I've omitted two details about this plot to show you how much of a sequel to Carrie it isn’t. The entire film could easily play out without these, leading me to believe (though I can’t prove it) it was written as some other movie and then reworked to tie into the 1976 Brian De Palma film. Technically, The Rage is a follow-up. Amy Irving returns as Sue Snell, now an adult guidance counsellor for Rachel's school. That’s a detail. The real reason this is “a sequel”? Rachel. The young woman has the the same telekinetic powers as Carrie did. With that said, I bet you can predict the entire movie now. The film’s villains are essentially the Spur Posse. Rachel’s going to fall in love with one of them, they’ll have sex, his buddies will ruin everything by telling Rachel it was all a facade, unleashing her titular rage upon them. Cue the blood bath until TRAGEDY! Turns out the love was real. Too bad loads of people are now dead. Too bad for Rachel, I mean. We couldn’t care less about the teens who bit the dust.
While it would’ve left you feeling like you just took a bath in a bucket of grease, this picture might’ve sucessfully told its revenge plot if it had played things smartly. You instantly hate the bad guys so you’re somewhat endeared to Rachel. Unfortunately, writer Rafael Moreau and director Katt Shea fumble this project. Over and over, we're shown clips of the 1976 film. What do they mean? Rachel wasn’t there. These aren’t her memories. Sue wasn’t there either - she left the deadly party before the carnage began. They're included to assure us that there will be blood later and because this film knows otherwise, everyone would leave. While we wait, the picture goes into needless details about Rachel’s powers, explaining their origin in a way that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
Picture this. Rachel is going to the jock’s post-graduation party. They’re getting ready to dump this film’s equivalent of a bucket of blood on her when they broadcast the secret footage of her and Jesse having sex for everyone to see. Counsellor Sue has been picking away at this nagging feeling that something’s not right with the teenager. She’s found the girl’s insane mother, broken her out of Arkham Asylum and is bringing her to the party so Rachel can understand why she has mutant powers. As they approach the door, Rachel hurls a fire poker at a schoolmate, impaling him through the head. In the process, she kills Sue. The woman’s death is accidental so it doesn’t tell us anything about how intensely Rachel’s rage burns. Left to her own devices, mom barges into the chaotic house to explain to her daughter what’s happening. Too bad the characters haven’t spoken in 13 years. They're lucky they knew who was who! The exchange that follows means NOTHING because their connection isn't emotional, it's technical.
No fan of the original Carrie could watch The Rage and be satisfied with it. No one who hasn’t seen the original should watch this movie instead. The Rage: Carrie 2 is a picture without an audience. It’s got some unintentionally funny moments towards the end when the gore and violence are supposed to appall us but you’ll have checked out long before then. (On VHS, March 5, 2020)
Thank you @girlnairb for tagging me in this! This one is quite long so if you don’t want to read it go ahead and just ignore this. However! If you want to get to know me a little bit more... Go ahead and keep on reading!
Here is the original post! I shortened some of the questions! @aconflagrationofmyown came up with this. Don’t take offense when I said the options were bad! I mean it nicelyyyy
1. When and what was your first exposure to Elvis Presley?
100% It was Lilo and Stitch. And because of that damn movie, I thought Elvis was born and raised in hawaii. You can’t tell me otherwise you thought differently.
2. And what was your first impression?
Well, I was a young little child. I probably just thought that it was good music. This was years ago, so I’m going off of brain memory right now.
3. Lace shirt or jumpsuits?
Jumpsuits. I thought about this for awhile, because there are way more jumpsuits, then lace shirts. Now, you can never forget the feeling the lace shirts give, but those jumpsuits... They are something else.
4. You can steal one of Elvis/Austin/s outfits, what’s it going to be?
Okay, I don’t know how many of you have seen, “Elvis, that’s the way it is”, but the shirts he wears when they are practicing. The bright purple patterned one, the red aututom kind of one. I want those, but if we’re only doing one. I would take the red one. This one!
5. What’s your favorite random Elvis quote?
UH- I don’t necessary know any off by heart. There isn’t something that I am necessary quoting. Call me a fake fan all you want. I have issues ;-;
6. Did you find Austin Butler’s lips distracting despite them being in a movie about the King of plush upper lips?
Some moments yes, some moments no. I think where there was nothing else to look at... 100%, other times when my eyes are flashing around the whole screen... no.
7. What’s an aspect of Elvis’ character you wish more people appreciated?
There are like three things. A) He was a reader, and I hardly ever see it mentioned in any types of fics. (From my knowledge) B) Dude was hella religious. He loved God and its hardly shown in some fics. Sure, it hardly needs to be shown, but. C) Dude was hella afraid of sex. Truely, when he was sent off to Germany and he learned what prostitutes were... dude was scare. And I a lot of people in their mind few Elvis as someone who was sex crazed. He was scared earlier on. These are just my opinions. And fics are written in our own way, but its nice to see real aspects of Elvis in them.
8. You meet Col. TOm Parker for the first time, forewarned with the knowledge of what a scumbag he is, what do you do? (Multiple choice, check out the options on the original post)
C) You encourage Elvis to leave him and break the contract
9. What was your favorite aspect/ scene from the Elvis 2022 movie?
1:59:55-2:00:59 (I just love seeing all the jumpsuits)
10. You can only choose only one song or piece of media to convince someone to become ab Elvis fan, what is it going to be?
This picture. Because you cannot tell me you... that you don’t feel some type of way... The no undershirt.. the messy hair... You can just tell how tall he is... UGH.
11. How many children would you give Elvis Presley from your own - or theroretical- womb?
Three or four... Yes, I would say three... and if another one happens... oopsies. I wouldn’t be mad.
12. Where are you hanigng out with E.P.?
Well, I personally don’t like leaving the house. So, 100% Graceland. Not only is it just a beautiful property inside and out... There is so much stuff to do there.
13. What is the peak Elvis era?
1968-1977. LISTEN, older Elvis is getting to me. Obviously if you have read my recent fics. We got some hella good hits also after the comback special and up till he died I mean- Lets, ignore his looks the closer we get to his death... but the energy, the music, UGH.
14. How long have you been an Austin Butler fan?
First time I saw him was when I was watching Zoey 101. I might’ve been only 6 when season four came out, but I still found Austin cute. Then again in iCarly, I was like... he cute. Then AGAIN in Wizards of Waverly place. THEN AGAIN, in Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure. His early stuff yes, haven’t really been like ya know. I am a fan, I wouldn’t say die hard fan.
15. What kind of ELvis chick are you?
Uh, so there's two options. I am going to make up my own? I am someone who will do everything for this man, because that’s just how I am with any partner. I wouldn’t be something he sampled, or a fling? Because I wouldn’t know how to handle that.
16. Is Austin Butler an honorary southerner now?
Again, these two options suck. Because on one hand it’s “Hell no” and the other “He’s been possessed.” Listen... actors have to learn how to do accents. Doesn’t mean they become an honorary person from that area.
17. Pick your poison in the fan-fiction realm.
Angsty fluff
18. Spit or swallow for this man?
Swallow, I am not explaining.
19. Would Gladys approve of you?
Yes, because I would do anything and everything to make this women love me. Along with Vernon. I want to be loved by everyone in that family. If not, that’s all I’m worried about. Is it me? Did I do something? Not to mention, I would treat her boy well. Like, I will buy this guy shit even though he don’t need it after a certain point.
20. Which of Elvis’ cars if your favorite?
I may know nothing about cars, but damn... I know a nice car when I see it, and Elvis had some nice ones. My favorite is this one! Yes, it is to a video... I- This was the best I could do. Don’t get me wrong, the pink cadillac is a classic and the purple one as well. But there is something about the 1973 Stutz Blackhawk... I mentioned it in my Just the Nurse fic, and I- Maybe it’s the black with the red interior... But UGH.
21. What are your odds for beating this man at karate?
Odds honey? My odds are at a 0. I am small. This dude could walk over me-
22. If you could meet Elvis and have enough composure to tell him something, what would it be?
“It’s okay to ask for help. You are not alone in this situation in the slightest. People want to help you.”
23. What are you top 3 go-to Elvis songs?
FUCK. I knew somewhere at some point someone would ask me my favorite Elvis song, or my top so many Elvis songs. So, goddamn it. Also... I totally used the medley one from Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis cause... hehe. It’s TECHINCALLY ONE SONG.
Burning Love
Promise Land
Long Tall Sally/ Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On/ Mama Don’t Dance / Flip, Flop and Fly/ Jailhouse Rock/ Hound Dog
24. What’s a hoppy or pasteime of yours you wish you chould share with Elvis/Austin!Elvis
Painting! I feel like Elvis would’ve made some interesting art!
25. What’s the Elvis 2022 quote you’ve been mumbling to yourself ever since you heart it?
43:18-43:20, “I am not!”
26. If you could spare him one tragedy what woult it be?
100% Gladys’ death. If she didn’t die, not only would she have convinced him to leave the Colonel, he would’ve been better in the mind set as well.
27. Is there a modern artist that sorta scratches for you the itch that Elvis’ absence leaves?
I’m taking this in the sense that... A modern artist you love that gives you the same happiness that Elvis’ songs do. 5 Seconds of Summer. Hands down. Thank you.
28. How did you react at the end of the movie when In The Ghetto started to play?
E) I may have appeared emotionless but in fact my soul was leaving my body and I don’t think it’s returned quite yet.
Okay! I first saw this in the theater with my mom and granny! I did not want to cry in front of them. When I watched it again when it came out on prime... I balled my eyes out.
29. If you’ve got a favorite gif or photo insert it here and bless us all.
For once I’m early on something and I haven’t seen them do this... This took a long time just to say... I can’t- It took me quite some time.
I tag // @presleysnotes, @heavenlybutler, @venus-haze, @emmymaehereeeeee, and @murdererfromthestart... Because those are the only people I talk to.

I am not a sequels fans I’ve only rewatched them once and I’ll only ever do it again because I’m obsessed with Hux/Kylux for no reason. Rey is my least favorite character in all of Star Wars. @sunshinechildskywalker I’m gonna answer all of yours in a separate post
There are many common themes in entertainment, such as when Luke Skywalker learned the truth about his father. The audience loved the suspense, the surprise, and the fantastic aftermath. Most plots have the basic pattern of a beginning or introduction, a detailed middle, and a conclusion. Stories that do not follow this typical theme are generally not entertaining.
I wanted to discuss something that happened to me that does not fit the story mold. I almost did something and learned a valuable lesson. Around 20, I went to the movies with a friend. Afterward, we headed to the parking lot and saw an 18-year-old walking (away from us) with his father. This kid had gone far out of his way to look like a complete punk. He put in safety pin piercings all around his head, grotesquely shaved off his hair with orange/yellow hair dye, and wore a satanic shirt. This is an excellent example of all that is wrong with society.
This obscene sight upset my tranquil evening, and I decided to confront this idiot. I walked up to him to say, “You look terrible!” (Alright, truth. Four-letter words would have been involved.)
When I approached, my opinion did a 180. The 12-year-old boy had been severely burned, and his entire face was radically disfigured. The severe damage made him look a lot older. The safety pins were surgical staples from a recent reconstruction operation. Most of his hair would never grow back, and what little remained was stained with orange antiseptic. His “satanic” shirt, upon closer inspection, proclaimed his survival success at a Christian youth camp. The boy smiled at me. I immediately understood the sight before me. This was a happy child with his father, who had just attended their first movie after a traumatic event.
I walked away feeling like the biggest jerk in the world. I reflect upon that shameful memory to this day, and I believe the experience helped me become a better person. What a great life lesson. Hey, let’s include this powerful memory in one of my stories.
Not so fast. Bill almost insulted a boy. Boring! It would read much better if Bill insulted the boy and cried his eyes out in shame. Why? Readers cannot relate to a near event. “Bill thought about the incident.” So? Technically, Bill did not do anything wrong. The kid smiled at him. Big deal. “Hey, Bill! Man up and move on! No harm, no foul.”
The core moment was the kid’s smile. There was no conflict, but that smile did more to my ego than a thousand bullets. At that moment, the twelve-year-old boy was far more mature than me. It is challenging to have a character go through the same event and pull the reader into their pain because nothing happened. Taping into this powerful memory would be fantastic, but it will not happen.
What can we conclude? One. Be careful who you insult. Two. Life is complex and rarely predictable. Three. Real life does not always translate into words. Four. It’s fun to explore these topics.
You’re the best -Bill

A Look at the Past: Soaring Dragons, Intense Battles, and One Gangly Viking (Rewritten)
As anyone who loves and studies film can attest, one of the most frequent and difficult questions I’m ever asked is “what’s your favorite movie?” For many, their favorite changes day-to-day. For others, they may love some obscure foreign film that will leave them sounding pretentious to the average person. For me? I have long gotten over the embarrassment of proclaiming that How to Train Your Dragon is my absolute favorite movie of all time.
I’ve adored this film since I was young. The bond between Toothless and Hiccup was heartwarming. The side characters, namely Ruffnut, Tuffnut, and Gobber never fail to make me laugh. And Astrid was the first female romantic lead I’d ever seen who was brave, confident, competent, ambitious, and just an overall badass. However, this movie wasn’t just my favorite movie. It was my favorite childhood movie. Memories can be very easily warped, and sure, I’d seen HTTYD semi-recently, but it had been a decent amount of time. I got into my head, and decided to delve into the past to try and surmise for myself if this film was still deserving of the title of “my favorite movie.”
Looking up reviews from 2010, when the movie first came out, I immediately came upon one from respected critic Roger Ebert. Suddenly, my fears were reality. He described How to Train Your Dragon as “more like a game born to inspire a movie,” and said it didn’t have much in the way of “character or story development.” Maybe my fond memories were pure nostalgia. After all, my memory of that time period is hazy at best. Looking at historic events, like news of the conflict in the Middle East, the U.S. Defense Department hiring killers to try and assassinate militants in Pakistan and Afghanistan, I have no recollection of these things that only occurred 13 years ago. I remembered some entertainment-based news, like the fact that Shrek Forever After had come out around the same time, but anything that may be in a history textbook? Nothing.
But then, I watched How to Train Your Dragon again.
This movie is a genuine masterpiece. The stakes feel high, the connections between characters are compelling, the film is littered with poignant symbolism and parallels, it’s cinematic, moving, well-constructed, and thoroughly entertaining. I’m definitely not the only one who feels this way, as shown by the fact that it has a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, and as The Independent Critic wrote back in March of 2010, it uses its “surprising intelligence and tenderness” to teach “wonderful lessons about the healthy use of strength, friendship and…accepting those who are different than yourself.”
But I would be kidding myself if I thought that I felt that same way after watching this movie for the first time 13 years ago. I’m sure I just stared mindlessly at the screen, wowed by the magical world of Berk wishing I could have a dragon of my own. I think that’s what I really took away from this journey into the past. I could look back on my love of this film in 2010, and say that my opinion hasn’t changed. But that wouldn’t be accurate. There’s a frame of mind I was in during 2010 that I can’t replicate now, and I have knowledge and experience today that I didn’t have back then. I mean, maybe I did know about the conflict in the Middle East when I was 7, but I didn’t understand it. And that’s the whole point. It’s important to look back on memories, thoughts, and feelings of the past with a grain of salt, because not only can time completely change your perceptions, but the way you viewed the world around you 10 years ago is completely different from how you would view it now. It’s important to try and look at these situations with a fresh eye, rather than taking your snap judgment from a decade ago for granted.
