i've noticed that every fall since first reading the webcomic back in late 2017, i've gotten back into homestuck! usually it's been because of the amazing fancreations like @phemiec's fansongs! i really hope you see and enjoy this! it's not perfect, but i love both computer music making and homestuck and this combined the two!

a day in the life of working on music in Noteflight:
open noteflight
sign in for the 80543905th time
two copies of the song I want to work on
click on the more recent one
"unsaved changed made at [time you last worked on it]" wtf?
uhhh... save, i guess?
pops out without any of the changes you made to it last time you worked on it
...
open the other save of the song
"unsaved changes made at-" ok whatever
save
finally have the right file
delete the other file bc why do i need two
work
save work
duplicate tab to make sure it saved
none of my changes saved
refresh duplicate page
"unsaved changes made at [two minutes ago]" oh god not again
save i guess
none of my changes saved
duplicate first page again
now my changes save
sigh in relief
close all tabs
...
panic
Ctrl-Shift-T
ok i thing it's fine
close computer
cry for a bit

Here we go!
This piece fought me. The Heroine's theme wanted to be created and generally did not put up any resistance in the process, but this one was desperately trying to stop me from making it.
Nevertheless, here it is! STPlay's Chapter I theme!

currently trying to decode what key Oracion is in based solely off of this screenshot bc i realized the notation is accurate so i can make Nightshades theme (oracion with the darkness motif as a base layer beneath it)
Tumblr media
unfortunately theres fucking nothing here other than the notes. thats not even a real clef. no time signature no key no tempo nothing. i can only assume its in 4/4 because it looks like it. i dont know

I am once again being insane about songwriting.
It's weird doing it without having a band to go to, like it seems kinda pointless. I used to just do chords/melody/lyrics/vibe and let them figure out their stuff so it was fun for them to play as well.
I MIGHT post them bc honestly, I just want people to hear them, even if it's just in their awful AWFUL noteflight instrument sounds form. They came out a BIT poppier than I intended but I'm still obsessive over them so.

the engraver has since taken it down, but there used to be a version of rachmaninoff's prelude in c♯ minor (op. 3 no. 2) on noteflight, on which someone had left the mesmerizing comment: "noteflight's midi playback of this piece neither does justice to, nor can fully hide, its dramatic beauty"

I did something :)
It's based on the "The Princess" theme from Slay the Princess—the rhythms and parts of the tune stuck around (the motif is largely the same, just reversed) but I tried to go for a more "heroic" feel.
Composed in Noteflight. The dynamics don't come through very well in the audio but like. What can you do?

Return to Regalia Theme (Extended) - Version 1
Inspired in part by Audie @prophecyofgray's beautiful extended RTR theme, I've been messing around with the Return to Regalia intro/outro music in Noteflight recently. Here is a fun thing I came up with! I call it "Version 1" because I might add more to it in the future.
Please enjoy this little tune as a thank you for making it through Book 3 with me! You'll hear me say it in today's episode, but it's worth repeating: I'm so grateful to all of my guests and everyone who commented on episodes this season. You are all incredibly smart and talented and funny, and I'm very lucky to be able to discuss these books with you. Three down, two to go!
Fly you high & see you soon,
Oona

Melodies - Noteflight Link
So, despite being a Noteflight user for years, I just now remembered I can share my scores with other people. People like you!
So here are links to the melodies for some of the songs. Not all of them, because I haven't figured them out on the piano yet.
Please enjoy, and let me know your thoughts!
