An this is not NMJ-friendly (I swear I like this character but I'm tired of seeing him depicted as flawless/innocent victim in the fandom and I'm tired of seeing 3zun with only JGY being fixe in the trio when damn NMJ has a lot of fixing to go through too, in my opinion even more than JGY)

I also want to add that (in the novel) NMJ and JGY met and had been friends for a few months AT MOST (since the sunshot is 2 years long and we know JGY had first helped LXC hide, then got into the army and been in NMJ's army -then NMJ notices him and makes him his deputee- THEN he is sent away with recommendation letter at the Jin for a short period before he flees en becomes a spy at the Wen side) So yes on 2 years time span it's not long.

NMJ has been furious that his 1 subordinate was not the man he thought he was / was not 100% honest with him after a few months of knowing him. That is alone fucked up for me (people are allowed, especially when they are your subordinate to not be 100% honest. You are their boss. If you convince himself you are friend that's ON YOU) and NMJ remains angry about that fact for YEARS.

I know lot of people like to say "but NMJ saved MY from bullies and gave him a promotion!!" so what? It forces MY to befriend with NMJ? (especially when you read the scene you can see that MY is worried about NMJ's action and future bullying that will come with the promotion. Not saying NMJ shouldn't have promoted MY or defended him, it's one of NMJ's action for MY that is good I won't deny that and shows NMJ's righteousness. BUT it also shows his lack of understanding due to his "privileged" life and rank. And later this fear DOES come to fruition as we have scene where people just bully MY in a more subtle way that NMJ does not react to bc he doesn't see it (LXC does))

So yeah in a few months of knowing him NMJ somehow decided what MY's personality was like, and that they were friends and the one person he could trust. and that's very sad that it's not the case, bc MY is not NMj's friend, he is his subordinate, and he doesn't owe him total honesty. and when he realizes it's not the case NMJ legimitaly feels angry and betrayed.

(Okay he was also very angry about the war-murders he witnessed him doing twice >> that's a legit good reason to be angry (though he does not even ask for explanations and makes up his mind immediately and when given a legit good explanation decide to disregard it completely))

Because of all this *shows above* NMJ decides he is ALLOWED to threaten JGY in their brotherhood vows (that is not supposed to sound like that) and to be harsh and berate JGY after the war at every occasion.

JGY remained loyal and even tried to help cure NMJ for YEARS, (we know that it lasted at least the 2 yeas after sunshot where WWX is at BM + 2 years after WWX's death with the XY's troubles SO the minimum of 4 years in total) despite being called out at every single one of his action and doubted and called murderer/devious/snake...

So yeah, at one point when NMJ kicked out of the stair (reliving his worst childhood memory of his father doing the same which all the cultivation world know and laugh about) called him the son of a prostitute (when NMJ knows it hurts him) and literally getting his saber out and stating he is going to murder him because he is irredeemable to the 1 friend JGY has (LXC) - I understand 100% JGY going "you know what fuck you" and stop using the healing song that slow down NMJ's INEVITABLE DOOM (because saber kill all the nie early) and start using one song that worsen it so NMJ dies faster. (and if it hits the trauma of seeing his own father dying of Qi deviation? That's karma, they're even, JGY can also makes you relive your trauma NMJ :))

After 4 years of constant bullying (let's call a cat a cat) + seeing NMJ going as far as burn his beloved's brother treasures in a fit of anger + knowing it's going to get worse no matter what and that this saber will kill him + this event - yeah well I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't have lasted this long.

NMJ tried to kill JGY 4 times depending of your adaptation.

(In CQL, NMJ is even ready to kill MY without a trial, like right here and now after witnessing the murder during a siege. Then he tries to kill him a second time after the war, when JGY comes to say sorry about what he had to do to NMJ as a spy (Notices JGY said sorry this is often forgotten. NMJ never ever say sorry.) and JGY HAD JUST SLAYED THE TYRANT AND SAVED NMJ's ASS. LXC has to STOP the blade for fuck's sake.)) After arrives the stair incident that I already pointed out there's the last time as NMJ is QI deviating his first reaction is what? To kill JGY. He is dying bleeding from all orifice and his last action is to kill JGY.It shows how obsessive he was about JGY for me. This obsession continues as he is a fierce corpse, to the point that JGY has to chop his body off to stop him. (That's not done bc it's cruel, it's done because ie the corpse keeps his legs then he keeps running after him)

JGY tried once to kill NMJ and succeeded and at this point, I just say it's fair game and one was just more competent than the other.

People loves to say "YEaaaah but NMJ tried to kill JGY only because of the saber curse! It's not a conscious decision while JGY premeditated the murder!!" (yay because JGY can totally win a fight against the mountain of muscles an enraged NMJ is)

NMJ's dying scene is the result of the saber curse, all the others are his own and done consciously. He is still leading his own damn sect for years after the sunshot, if he was this crazy he would not be leading anything. But no he is this crazy only with JGY.

(and the Wen, because people often forget he is with the cultivation world who think all the Wen should die, even children and elderly because they didn't rebel against WRH during the war - Which OOOOoohh strange when MY rebels during the war that does not count as righteous anymore)

And NMJ also is part of a sect whose cultivator's body gets sealed with their saber because they're dangerous and keeps on killing. And to suppress them his sect has to find bodies to seal with their deceased so the saber is too busy fighting to escape.

And let's talk about the other thing he reproach JGY : lying. Can we talk about lying? NMJ is hiding his sect's tomb. Okay we can say "it's not his secret to tell it's his sect's" fine. He is hiding the SABER CURSE to NHS, and the fact that NMJ IS DYING.

So NMJ has absolutely no legitimate foot to stand on when it comes to : demonic cultivation and desacralization of the dead + murder (he is a general of the war, and where does the body for the Nie tomb come from huh?) + lying.

NMJ is a very interesting character, (he had to see his father die, know he is afflicted with the same curse and live with it since he has been a kid, has to take care of his father's sect and his baby brother from a young age, and he has to deal with his sect's secret that he probably disapproves. Despite all that he honestly wants to do what is right. The problem is what he judges as right is very short-sighed.) his biggest flaws are his hypocrisy, his black-and-white view of the world, his privileged ass, his anger management problem, his obsessive and destructive tendencies and his damn "honorable" suicidal mindset. (can we talk about his tendency to resolve a morality problem with "then you die an honorable death?"/ "then you sacrifice yourself!")

I have yet to see a fic where all of these flaws are depicted. I stopped reading Nieyao completely because most of the fic about them are focusing on fixing JGY (when really, JGY is the easiest to solve, you put him in a safe place, make him equal with his LI, manage the break up with his father, then work on his trust issue/speaking to someone first when you face a problem so he doesn't tackle this himself, see his plans go so awry until the only solution he has left to fix his own mess is murder) When NMJ has to fix his PRIVILEDGED WORLD VIEW. Like tackle this in real life. Have you ever had to face someone so privileged that they don't get that poor student had to work twice harder than a rich student to get to the same school? (But they are at the same school they took the same year's exam!! they're equaaaaallll) yeah, try to reason someone like that. That's what JGY had to face with NMJ.

I love 3Zun, I really DO. (though I do prefer Xiyao more) But one of the biggest problem between JGY and NMJ is that facing death :

JGY will always find a way to survive whereas NMJ will find an honorable way to die.

NMJ’s concerns about JGY: He did a bad thing one time and now I am suspicious of his every move with no evidence. 

JGY’s concerns about NMJ: he has repeatedly tried to murder me.

Rewatching the Empathy scenes, even though it's the CQL version and they had JGY play the song of turmoil before being thrown down the stairs and threatened with death like... NMJ still comes off unhinged and kind of a dick actually.

And like that's fine he's a qi deviating fierce corpse he should be a lil unhinged but like man idk how you can see all that and be like "yeah chifeng-zun all that sounds legit jgy is fully in the wrong here"

Randomly had an idea for a wangjue au so I need to speak it into existence!

Recently and in the past, I've read stuff with the troupe of "Person A is sent as Person B's wife to be a sacrifice". And my brain was like, "Why not consider LWJ and NMJ in this scenario.

Some some random points I'm coming up with on the spot:

■ NMJ is a God/Beast/Dragon/Bull (? Anything can work here) that has recently changed the past few centuries. Previously, humans had been able to live peacefully along side him. But something happened. 🤔

□Could be betrayal? He's been corrupted? The villagers somehow harmed/slayed his brother?

■ LWJ gets chosen to be the bride after his brother goes missing. Both were considered good candidates with their musical talents. LXC was just the first choice due to his more friendly appearance.

□ Turns out NMJ encountered his future "bride before" when LWJ was little. Back when his wrath was more suppressed? Or maybe while he's still grieving the loss of his brother? (Depends where the plot goes).

■NMJ had never been that interested in these "brides". Until he encounters LWJ 🤭

□ At some point we need LWJ playing the guqin or humming for NMJ 🙏

Thank you so much for this prompt! I very much enjoy reverse Nie bros! I got to write then once before and decided to turn this prompt into a sequel (but you don't need to have read Maybe if the stars align, maybe if our worlds collide to follow the worldbuilding!)

Nie Huaisang bit his lip in thought, and a little frustration. He’d been to the rooms assigned to the Lan sect, and hadn’t found his brother anywhere – normally Lan Qiren would have absconded Nie Mingjue somewhere to discuss night hunts, or Lan Xichen would have dragged him away somewhere for tea, but neither had seen him since the banquet that evening. Nor was Nie Mingjue among the Jin – they were in Koi Tower, after all, and the sects had been invited for a grand celebration on Jin Zixuan’s birthday, and though the boy was vain and snobbish at times, he often came out of his shell to take Nie Mingjue under his wing and show him around the grounds or take him to spar on the training field. Nie Mingjue had certainly not been among the Wen – even after Wen Ruohan’s ‘mysterious’ death two years ago, the Nie and the Wen were far from friendly, even if Wen Xu’s reign was nowhere near as contentious as his father’s (Nie Huaisang was quite thankful that he, rather than Wen Chao, had come out on top when the two brothers fought for dominion over their sect).

He was finishing looking around the smaller sects’ delegations, intending to head for the Jiangs’ quarters next, when he was stopped by a feminine voice nearby. “Oh, Nie-zongzhu? It’s quite fortunate that I found you!”

He lifted his fan to cover his frown and sighed. It was Sect Leader Yao’s sister, of course it was. She was nowhere as unpleasant as her brother, thankfully, but she did have a habit of making a nuisance of herself. Particularly to him.

“Ah, Yao-guniang, I hope you’ve been enjoying the birthday celebrations. How may I assist you?”

She fluttered her eyelashes coquettishly and waved her round fan over her chest – her neckline showing far more cleavage than was proper. Normally he would not mind – he did have a reputation for enjoying the company of women (and men), after all – but he knew she’d had particular designs on him for two years now.

“I heard that the matchmakers have been a great bother to Nie-zongzhu of late,” she offered with an attractive pout. “So disrespectful to hound such a great man, no doubt still grieving the late Madame Nie. I would be more than happy to have a word or two with them, if it would help.”

Yes, the matchmakers had been on his case of late to petition for various women wishing to be the next Madame Nie. He knew he would have to accept one eventually, but he had yet to decide upon what alliance would be most advantageous. Most believed he was still mourning the ‘accidental’ death of his wife during a night hunt – the better that they did not think further upon the timing of her death with that of Wen Ruohan. While they had not been a love match, Yu Jinzhu and he had developed an affection for one another, and he knew she would not want her sacrifice in pursuit of assassinating Wen Ruohan to put his sect in danger.

He also knew that Yao YuFeng’s offer was far from altruistic – she’d had designs on becoming the next Madame Nie since the day of the funeral.

“That is very kind of Yao-guniang,” he said with a charming smile that prompted her fan to move a little faster, “but this one is not afraid of the matchmakers. When I am ready to marry again, only then will I have need of them. But until that time, I have a sect to run, and a brother to find.”

“Is your Didi lost again?” Her smile and chuckle were now far more genuine. “He’s grown to be such a handsome boy, and a great cultivator even at his age! And I have yet to meet a girl who can resist the temptation to pinch his cheeks when his dimples show.”

“Yes, that’s the very reason why I lose him so often. He’s far too happy to help anyone who asks, and is often led astray.” He gave a long-suffering sigh. “If I allowed him, he would go weeks without seeing his Da-ge and spend all of his time helping people in need. My Didi forgets me so!”

“Such a thing is impossible,” she replied. “Everyone knows Nie Mingjue adores his brother and threatens anyone who even thinks of questioning the way you run your sect. He is a credit to Qinghe Nie, and to his Da-ge.”

He tilted his head in thanks at her kind words. “Your kindness does your sect credit, Yao-guniang. Now if you’ll forgive me, a process of elimination is leading me to the Jiang sect’s quarters – hopefully I’ll find my misplaced Didi there.”

“I wish you the best of luck, Nie-zongzhu,” she offered with a short bow, that he echoed.

Thankfully, she had the grace to leave his side, allowing him to continue on his way.

He took a path through the gardens outside on his way to the Jiang delegation’s rooms, enjoying the cool night air, and he spotted a pair of figures sitting outside in the lantern-light. The two boys seemed to be pouting – well, one looked positively grumpy, while the other one pouted only a little as he bumped his shoulder into the other’s. But the moment Nie Huaisang came close enough to be lit by the lanterns, both boys jumped up onto their feet and made proper bows.

“Nie-zongzhu!” they chorused.

“You’ve been enjoying the celebrations, I hope!” Wei Wuxian crowed with a charming grin.

“Are you here to get Nie-xiong?” Jiang Cheng added, a little too much hope in his voice.

Nie Huaisang did his best not to let a smirk creep upon his face.

“I have been searching for him,” he replied, “and this was my next stop. I do hope my Didi hasn’t been too much of a nuisance.”

“Nie-xiong is never a bother,” Jiang Cheng replied – unsurprising, since he and Nie Mingjue had been close since they were young, and Jiang Cheng had yet to refuse an invitation to come to Qinghe and visit with Jasmine, Princess, and Love.

“Not a bother – but he is a thief,” Wei Wuxian countered unapologetically.

Nie Huaisang lifted his fan to cover his silent chuckle. “Well, would you be so kind as to escort me to my thieving Didi?”

“Of course! Right this way, Nie-zongzhu,” Wei Wuxian offered in a way that was almost flirtatious – ah, to be fifteen again.

As the three of them walked, Nie Huaisang was reminded of how fast these young cultivators grew up. When he’d first taken over as sect leader, he’d been their age, and they had been but children playing at being cultivators. And now they were all grown, and already taller than he was. At times he felt like an ant wandering among trees.

Jiang Cheng knocked on a door and opened it, calling out: “Jiejie! We have a visitor!”

Inside the luxuriously appointed guest rooms, Jiang Yanli had set up a table with tea and many kinds of food – and across from her, shyly accepting an affectionate pat on the head, was Nie Huaisang’s missing Didi. The two looked up at their entrance and Nie Mingjue’s face lit up.

“Da-ge!”

“So this is where you’ve been hiding, A-Jue,” he teased. He knew his brother and that his absences were rarely purposeful – he had simply been ‘adopted’ by so many older disciples that constantly sought him out, wanting to spoil him or teach him or drag him out on night hunts. “I’ve been looking for you for nearly an hour.”

Nie Mingjue looked sheepish; he stood up and bowed to his brother. “This one apologizes to Nie-zongzhu.”

“No apologies necessary, something simply came up at the last minute.” Nie Huaisang turned to Jiang Yanli. “I hope Jiang-guniang does not mind me stealing back my brother.”

“Of course, Nie-zongzhu,” she replied kindly with an elegant bow. “Had I known he was missing, I would have sent him back to your delegation’s rooms.”

“No harm is done – and there are few I trust with my brother’s welfare as much as you and your family.” She tilted her head in thanks, her cheeks flushing brightly. Not for the first time did he think she would make an excellent wife – but not only was she betrothed to Jin Zixuan, but Yu Ziyuan had told him in no uncertain terms that her daughter (and son, for that matter) were off-limits to his wandering eyes.

But a man could still look and appreciate.

Everyone wished each other farewell for the night, and Nie Huaisang and his brother were finally en route to their rooms.

“Is something the matter, Da-ge?” Nie Mingjue asked quietly when they were finally alone.

“Nothing is wrong,” he replied, keeping his eyes ahead of him. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to look at his brother, but with how he had to crane his head up to look at him since his last growth spurt, it hurt his neck a lot less to keep his eyes on the path ahead. “But there is someone I want you to meet. Someone I believe has some potential in our sect, but who will require some time to adjust to our ways.” He paused as they passed a servant, and only continued once they were long past them. “Furthermore, I want to get your impression of them.”

“Of course,” Nie Mingjue replied. “Whatever I can do to help.”

He smiled to himself – this was why everyone wished Nie Mingjue were their little brother.

When they reached the Nie delegation’s quarters, one of their disciples held the door open for them as they entered. The healer within stood up and bowed in greeting.

“How is he?” Nie Huaisang asked her, glancing over to where a young man sat by the window. When he saw Nie Huaisang had returned, he stood up and lowered into a gracious bow of his own.

“Nothing that cannot be healed,” she replied reassuringly. “I’m more concerned at his malnourishment than I am the few scrapes and bruises he acquired today.”

He nodded and dismissed her with a wave of his fan. He stepped further into the room once the door clicked shut behind him. “Didi, I would like to introduce you to a young man I met earlier today. This is Meng Yao, and I have invited him to come back to Qinghe with us. He wishes to become a cultivator, and I believe we may have a place for him in the Unclean Realm.”

“It is an honour to meet you,” Meng Yao said in a practised tone of voice, the same one that had impressed Nie Huaisang upon their first meeting outside when the young man had stood up from the bottom of Koi Tower’s steps. He’d seen something in him immediately that he recognized – someone who did not have the same strength and skill with weapons that were the basis of many cultivators’ training, but instead he saw someone adept at the more subtle arts that Nie Huaisang called his own, that his father had brought in teachers from Meishan Yu to teach him many years ago.

In Meng Yao, he had seen himself.

“What happened to you?” Nie Mingjue asked bluntly, as was his way.

Meng Yao lifted a hand to self-sonsciously touch the darkened bruise on his cheek, and when he smiled, his lower lip showed red from where it had been split. “It is nothing, Nie-gongzi.”

“Was it a night hunt?” Nie Mingjue asked – Nie Huaisang said nothing, merely standing back and watching his brother. “Or bandits?”

The response was a wince, and Meng Yao shook his head. “It is nothing-”

Nie Mingjue's eyes narrowed. “Who hurt you? Only a coward hurts someone who can’t or won’t fight back.” He reached for his saber, strapped securely to his back, but he stopped when Meng Yao reached out a hand to stop him. “Point me their way and I’ll-”

“It’s all right, young master. I will be fine.” Meng Yao’s eyes softened noticeably the way so many others did when they thought Nie Mingjue’s righteousness adorable, and Nie Huaisang found nothing to indicate it was an act. “You need not worry about this one. I merely wish to do what I can to thank Nie-zongzhu for his kindness.”

“It’s almost time for bed,” Nie Huaisang announced. “Meng Yao, why don’t you escort my brother to his room and help him take his hair down for the night? It will give you a chance to better see some of his braids – they’re typical for our sect, and you may wish to wear some of your own one day.”

“It would be an honour, Nie-zongzhu,” Meng Yao replied.

Nie Mingjue snorted. “Right this way,” he mumbled, “and you can tell me how you got hurt.”

“As I told your brother, Nie-gongzi, it was but a simple tumble down the stairs...”

Nie Huaisang watched his brother and Meng Yao walk away. It was going to be interesting having one of Jin Guangshan’s bastards around – not that he’d revealed to the young man that he’d overheard that part of the encounter on the stairs – particularly one that, like everyone else, fell under the sway of Nie Huaisang’s Didi’s charm.

That night, when Nie Huaisang slipped into his empty bed, he allowed himself a moment of true weakness. Wen Ruohan was dead, but there would always be sect politics, and people needing his attention, and yao and ghosts to fight. At times he was overwhelmed by it all, truly overwhelmed in a way the Headshaker never was. But he had a duty to fulfill, a sect to lead, and a brother to protect – and if he could do what he could to make certain Nie Mingjue never had to worry about anything in life, then it would all be worth it – just like what it had secretly cost them all to take down Wen Ruohan.

He sent a silent prayer to Jinzhu – he really did miss her at times, political though their marriage had been – and one to his and Nie Mingjue’s parents as well. Then, pushing his anxiety aside, he rolled over and allowed sleep to claim him.

There was one oddity in their burgeoning relationship, but he didn't mind it. If Shun Yao avoided touching or being touched, it was fine! Everyone had their boundaries, and Zhou Sang didn't want to make him uncomfortable.

And then, one day when he was running late leaving his last class to meet up with Da-ge, he happened to notice a familiar figure walk up to where his brother was waiting at the gate.

Huh... since when did his brother and Shun Yao know each other?

Curiosity piqued, he laid his schoolbag back down and moved closer to the window-

-just in time to see Shun Yao pat Zhou Jue on the arm and Zhou Jue give him a playful shove back, both of them laughing about something he couldn't hear.

Zhou Sang felt like he was going to throw up.

All this time, he'd thought- he'd thought-

Had Shun Yao only been humoring a request from Da-ge from the beginning? Had that been why-?

Forcibly swallowing the burning feeling that was rising up in the back of his throat, he turned and dug his phone out of his bag.

'Forgot about a club meeting today. See you at home later!' he texted, sending it off before realizing he hadn't included any of his usual emojis.

It didn't seem to matter.

After some more talking, his brother and Shun Yao walked away together.

And he went to go find somewhere no one would see him have a breakdown.

Over the course of several lifetimes, Shun Yao had come to realize that if he crossed paths with people he'd known before, there was always an element of fate to it.

So when one of his fellow upperclassmen introduced him to the artist for the school's fall festival posters, he had held it together long enough to bow in greeting and get to work.

It had only taken him a short time to establish that, like most of the others he had met from that first life, Zhou Sang remembered nothing.

And yet the way he behaved was so painfully similar to that of the young master he'd once accompanied to the lectures for gentry sect juniors.

He should have known that where one brother went, so the other wold follow. But when Zhou Jue had showed up on the school grounds to pick up Zhou Sang, and had ended up chasing off some delinquent students harassing Shun Yao, he had still been caught off guard.

Perhaps it was the fact that, unlike his little brother, Zhou Jue was not a mirror image of his past self. Not being forced too early into the position of caring for an entire sect or preparing for a war looming ahead had clearly done him a world of good, as Zhou Jue laughed far more easily and carried much less weight on his shoulders than Nie Mingjue had.

His easygoing, extroverted demeanor was much more appealing to his sensibilities than that of the staunch cultivator he'd once known, and Shun Yao found himself enjoying when they could talk.

Their rekindled-newfound friendship was going so well, in fact, that he didn't notice at first that he'd been seeing much less of Zhou Sang.

Not until Zhou Sang was absent for a planning meeting for the next school event. Even if he didn't care about the actual subject, he always jumped at the chance to be on the decorating committee, since it would give him more to add to his painting portfolio. For him to just not show up at all...

The meeting concluded before the bell rang for the next class, so, acting on a hunch, Shun Yao headed for the art room.

"-ly got sick of your personality," he heard an unfamiliar voice say just as his hand touched the knob to the sliding door.

"What the hell, man?" another voice snapped.

"What? It's true! They're like night and day, so if the guy's hanging out with his brother-"

"Still, you don't just say that!"

He pushed the door open just enough to see into the room. Two boys he didn't recognize were bickering, seemingly so deep in their sniping back and forth that they had completely forgotten the subject of their argument, who was sitting with his knees pulled to his chest under one of the room's windows.

The pair arguing didn't even notice him as they approached the door, and he quickly stood aside to let them pass.

Then he slipped into the room and quietly closed the door behind him.

Zhou Sang didn't look up, clearly having expected to be left behind as soon as the argument started.

The expression on his face was... well. He had seen it before, like everything else about Zhou Sang. But, rather than making him nervously uncomfortable as he had been previously, it made his heart ache.

Because those other boys had to have meant him.

When they had first met, he had assumed Zhou Sang had a lot of friends. No longer living in a martial sect with all that entailed, surely he would have been able to attract friends as easy as breathing.

For his distance and neglect to have hurt this much... clearly that wasn't the case.

And, really, were Zhou Sang's familiar quirks so bad? He had loved them once, and the boy they were attached to.

All things considered... this was also a second chance, like the one he'd been given with Zhou Jue.

Did he really want to squander it?

Taking a deep breath and letting it out, he went to crouch in front of Zhou Sang, and when the other boy raised his head warily, he smiled and offered a hand.

"Hi. Can we start over?"

Zhou Sang looked at his outstretched hand, and Shun Yao could practically see him calculating whether or not he should risk his heart again.

Then... Slowly, hesitantly, Zhou Sang took it. "Okay."

college days where jgy is trying to dress up because is little half-brother mxy may or may not have shown him and now he actually kinda think he does look cute when he do it? So he takes out the clothes and makeup he hides under his bed (not like either lxc or nmj were going through his, he is so small compared to them nothing would fit).

He smiles to himself, happy to finally have the time to dress up a little bit. He has no class today and knows lxc will most likely stay at the college all day until his last class in the evening. nmj also had class and per his schedule, he would go to the gym after.

So he had the apartment to himself for most of the day!

He decided to leave the makeup for later (honestly, he still struggles a little bit with it and always only does very little, maybe mxy could teach him).

He decided to check one last time that he was really alone before starting to dress up. He picked some cute panties, some white lace stockings, put on his new black silk blouse.

It took a bit longer to pick out a skirt because he wasn't sure what would be better long or short? long would hide his cute stocking so short. Now the colour. He went with one of his cream skirts since he thought it would go well with his black blouse.

He was in the middle of putting it on, when he suddenly heard his name being said too close to his room.

"jgy where did you put my gym bag again, class have been cancelled so I'll go now" jgy then turned from where he was in front of his mirror, frozen in place when he saw nmj opening the door. the taller man was just as frozen in the doorway, looking at him.

Then he wondered, what would happen if words got out? He would be screwed, he had worked so hard to create a good image of himself, if people knew he liked to crossdress it would only ruin all his hard work. Don't mind the image, he didn't want to know what jgs would say either.

Sure, he wasn't close per se to the man, but he was working his ass off to have a good place in the jin company even if he was only a bastard child. This would only hit too hard in the impression the man has of him.

jgy was getting more nervous by the second, unsure what to do now. If t had been lxc maybe he wouldn't have been so anxious, the man was pretty easy-going and had actually seen mxy crossdressing without any bad comments.

but nmj? They weren't in the best of relationships. Sure, it was better than when they first started being friendly, they would often get on each other's nerves, but even now where things were doing better he couldn't tell if nmj would mock him.

nmj ended up getting out of his initial choc, coming closer to him, which only made jgy more nervous than before, startling when he felt hand grabbing his (he didn't realise he had started shaking). He was surprised by how gentle nmj was being since this wasn't something he was really used to.

He didn't dare look up when he heard his name being called. He jumped when these hands left his only for arms to pull him unto a hug, being suddenly pressed against nmj. "Don't look as if I was about to beat you" nmj mumbled, "Who do you think I am" he added.

Then he said no more, hand slowly rubbing circle on his back to calm him down. jgy managed to calm down when he realised no mocking words were coming his way, that nmj wasn't going o do anything bad (why would he be holding him in his arm o calm him down otherwise?).

after a while he felt his hand sliding to his waist, being gently pushed away a little bit, nmj looked at what he was wearing, making him blush a little bit. It felt kind of nice to have big and strong hands on his waist (though he would probably die before admitting it out loud). He yelp a little bit when he was turned around so he could look at himself in the mirror nmj looming over his shoulder. "I think a-yao looks good in this" he finally commented, only making jgy redder than before, trying to hide his face "You don't need to lie to make me feel better" he mumbled behind his hands.

he was a bit unsure when he felt nmj take away the hairpin claw in his hair, his shoulder-length hair falling down, gentle hand trying to place them correctly. he finally took away his hands to see what he was doing, a bit surprised that nmj was "doing" his hair now.

"No, I think these suits a-yao very well," nmj said, jgy unsure if it was a slight blush he could see on his face.

jgy slightly bit his lip, thinking. "Do you... want to see more outfits?" he asked in a tiny voice at the end, only now realising what he was suggesting.

"I would like it" he received, surprising him.

And so, he pushed nmj back to the living room (he would really die if nmj knew he was wearing panties under his skirt), putting on more outfits so he could show off to him. It was actually really nice to do, clearly, nmj had no fashion sense, but it was nice showing off his outfits to someone (or at least, someone else than mxy).

after that day jgy had more chances to dress up when nmj was here, still unable to really tell lxc for now.

his relationship with nmj even improved after this. Sure, nmj had strangely already been a bit nicer to him before the incident (he thought it was because lxc had scolded him). But it was nice to have a much better relationship with him.

he even went shopping for new clothes with him! And even allowed him to test makeup on him ("Didi sometimes needs me to be his model" nmj had mentioned).

There a still some more risque outfits jgy cannot bring himself to try around nmj, but sometimes he wishes he could, wondering how the man would react (hopefully he would like it he sometimes wishes).

and from his new hobby, they travelled to doing a bit more together, nmj even convincing him once to come to the gym.

they are oblivious idiots who cannot notice how the other is clearly affectionate and pin for them, so they run around each other.

all the while you have lxc on the side being: *sipping tea* I am happy for them ☺️ they will eventually get there

It has wwx and lwj as the main pilots from the movie plot (ofc wwx is the angsty one who's past copilot died almost died, and lwj is the cold hot jade dude that no one else can drift with) , jc (wwx's injured past-copilot) and nhs as the kaiju scientists, nmj military leader and all the crew as jaeger pilots and it's all just excellent. Also I adore all the jaeger pairs and names and stuff - so awesome.

A shorter, Jiang Cheng centered one is:

Phantoms & Flames by ded_i_am_just_ded. Very good! For jc x lxc shippers (not jgy friendly). Also has some wangxian but it's about the xicheng and jc's inability to emotion here friends.

A great but un-completed one:

A Brave New World by wangjidoodle (wondoodle). I also really liked this one, but it's not completed, last updated 2020 so read at your own risk TvT It's set after the events of the first movie (but doesn't have anything to do with the second movie). I adore that it has jgy and mxy as kaiju scientists and it also has Jiang siblings jaegar which is awesome. And it also has wwx and lxc having a friendship before wwx even knows lz which I thought was cool! We love big brother Lan Xichen to everyone yes we do.

that's all my recs for now - I'll let you know if I have any more! ;)

I really think WWX and JGY wouldn't get along on a personal level! Based on JGY's closest relationships (LXC, Qin Su, and Su She), he seems to like mild-mannered people who are intentionally polite and deferential to social norms. (I'm excluding NHS and JL because they are not friends he has chosen, but rather people he "inherits" from relationships he didn't enjoy very much, and also strategically and politically important.) JGY suffered so much under social prejudice, and he downright resents NMJ for not being to sympathize with that, so I don't think he'd like WWX who is not very invested in being polite and shares the burden of managing social expectations.

From WWX's side, I think he is actually similar to NMJ in that he believes social appearances are just appearances that can or should be changed to make way for more "important" principles. If they were close, I think WWX would feel betrayed by some of JGY's choices like NMJ was, while JGY would be frustrated by WWX's flaunting of conventions. Like I can see them being polite or friendly acquaintances, but they can't sustain a deep friendship.

I think this is a very legit take, and I definitely agree that they would be likeliest to become friends if they, like JGY and Xue Yang, were forced to collaborate by circumstance in the first instance. But as Xue Yang proves, JGY is evidently capable of forming a kind of fondness for people he finds a bit terrifying/wildly irritating. And more importantly, he will repay kindness with kindness, and the one thing WWX wouldn't do is treat him badly because of his background (obviously the 'your mom' insults in the temple are a specific circumstance). WWX might flout convention, but he's rarely just a dick to someone to their face at first meeting, for no reason.

I think WWX is also very capable of understanding when people feel constrained by their circumstances to act pragmatically rather than morally-- see the way he interacts with Jiang Cheng over the Wen stuff. So I don't think he's fundamentally going to hate JGY for trying to protect himself rather than live up to his ideals-- and JGY does then use his position to live up to his ideals, in a way few others in canon do!

So basically... I agree they'd probably need an initial push of some kind, like a shared project or shared enemy. But I feel like they could definitely become friends, if bickering ones.

Lan Xichen and Lan Jingyi live in a sort of "mountain city" setup attached to the walls of Nie Mingjue's house--they go around from room to room on little rope bridges and staircases, because Jingyi absolutely cannot be on the floor while baby Jueying is learning to crawl and walk. But the house has lots of extra room for fellow borrowers, so it ends up being a rest destination when Jueying is a little older. <3

His husband’s lack of knowledge of jgy’s feelings had been good, in many ways. jgy was always polite, never stepping into improper situations with nmj despite the fact that alpha and beta, and men on top of that, would protect them from rumours of affairs. They were long-term friends, and could get away with far more than lwj could even with his omega friends—even with his baby brother, at least in the eyes of the public.

In other ways, it had broken his heart, to imagine this man loving from afar—from so close—unable to ask for what he wanted because nmj wasn’t someone who could take a male beta for a husband. So, jgy had settled for friendship, and it had been impossible for lxc to not imagine himself in the same position: stuck loving nmj from the outside, watching him love and care for a spouse who was slowly growing large with his child.

It wasn’t common in their world, but he and his husband were a love match. The fact that they just happened to be members of powerful families and the match had been easily approved by his uncle was simply a bonus. lxc loved nmj, and it was easy to understand why jgy loved him as well.

Those first few meetings with jgy had been awkward, lxc unsure how to treat the man who was so nice to him, yet clearly wished their roles were reversed. Slowly, they had become friends, trading tales of nmj that made the alpha blush and storm off while they laughed, leaving them in improper positions. Regardless of how friendly nmj and jgy were, lxc’s mate shouldn’t have been leaving him alone with most anyone—not unless they wanted rumours to start up.

Of course, the staff of their households were all hired for their discretion—thank you one nhs—but there had been days when jgy would leave and lxc would worry.

How long would it take for someone to slip up?

How long would it take for nmj to believe claims of an affair?

Would people speculate that the child growing inside him wasn’t his husband’s but jgy’s?

Would people laugh? Say that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree?

Any child of jgs’s must have a few illegitimate pups of their own running around by the time they’ve reached a certain age. It wasn’t like the mates of jgs’s supposed friends were off limits. Everyone was fair game. You’d think nmj would have known better.

The irony that now jgy’s child was inside him, having taken root just as easily as nmj’s had with JingJing. All it took was once, during a night of musing that maybe they should try, see whose sperm stuck. The fact that jgy’s had won out, during a rare time when lxc wasn’t the one sliding between his legs, seemed like fate—a fate he knew he should be worried about, but couldn’t bring himself to spare more than passing thoughts for, at least, on normal days.

This wasn’t a normal day.
