An early season Bob-centric episode in which Ann finds Snake again after he's robbed her diner and, charmed and stupid, she tries to get him to date her - he's entirely uninterested until she mentions living across the penitentiary. The wheels start to turn and all of a sudden, he welcomes the idea... Meanwhile, Bob had been reading self-improvement books (anger management, how to let go of grudges, revenge isn't the answer etc) and was on his very best behaviour, planning on waiting out his sentence and come back to society a changed man, ready for a fresh start... But when the opportunity to escape is presented as readily as it is here, he shrugs off all of his good decisions, throws his book above his shoulder and switches back to crazed maniac in an instant - and back to hunting Bart he goes! Though the focus of the episode will be Bob and Bart, several times throughout the episode there will be appearances of Snake trying to drop the charade with Ann now that he got what he wanted - but each time he'll have to keep up the farce for one reason or another;

(Listen, Snake growing a conscience and suddenly refusing to violate carpool lane rules for a one-off joke is hilarious to me. Don't look at me like that)

While their B-Plot is going on and intermittently shows them fleeing the law by car in gradually stupider situations - Bob has managed to corner Bart against the big window pane of the Mall. As he lifts his knife, about to strike... Snake's car suddenly crashes through that window and flies out of the mall above Bart, before ramming straight into Bob and splattering him on the pavement. The end of a sequence parodying the Mall Car Chase scene from the Blues Brothers.

"Dude, that was not a shortcut." Cut to both Bob and Snake getting handcuffed. Snake looks a little more sincere when he says "I'll call you!" to Ann-Doreen as the cops make him sit in the car. Mirroring that, Bob says "I'll get you!" to Bart as the ambulance takes him away. Roll credits.

so my goal was to finish this drawing before the end of jan 1st in my time zone and ehehe that certainly did NOT happen. it's like 10am jan 2nd here ahahahah. but hey it's still jan 1st somewhere!!!!

i spent like 15+ hours on this piece and like 70% of that time was redrawing markus. i swear i have the hardest time drawing that guy. i miss drawing ladies. i used to them all the time. maybe that's why i got north down in one try. connor took like three tries. and then markus... i went through like 8 renditions of him. i hope he turned out okay. i've been staring at this piece for so long i've lost all objectivity.

y'all it really is a new year because i actually put my clean line art in a separate layer instead of what i normally do and spend an abnormally long time cleaning up my rough sketch. this led to veryyyyyy thin line art which it is not my usual style. i think it turned out okay??? i think in future pieces might change up the line weight cause i love my tapers but i was just too lazy to rethicken all the lines on the clean line art layer jskdfjksdjfkdsjfl.

i wasn't planning on doing a full colored piece because of the time constraints but i decided to put in some matte colors cause i wanted them to be color coordinated and i was like oh it looks a bit weird and flat maybe i'll render just a litt-- oops i rendered the whole thing ehehehe. tbh, i'm still trying to figure how i want to render and color things. i feel like i always like the plain lineart more than the colored version. i think that will be a goal for this year is figuring out how to color. right now like 50% satisfied with the how i render so hoping to get it closer to 100% by year's end.

btw, no one is allowed to compliment my fabric textures bc i literally cheated cause i just got a picture of fabric texture, set the layer to grain merge, and then added highlights. i was not gonna render out norths sparkly dress by hand that's for fucking sure lmao.

also, idk what cosmic void they're standing in. i just wanted a really soft glowy background without having to render out anything detailed. so uhm let's just pretend that they're standing in front of some sort of light display.

THIS ACTUALLY reminds me of one of the very very first drafts I wrote even before Tartaglia's little brotherfication (coincidentally also of Dottore) so this is very fun. That doll was one of Sandrone's creations and I've decided so is this one

this also may hit close to home did I ever mention my slight obsession with dolls (it's worse than slight)

Dottore has fixed you many times, much to his inconvenience.

He has warned you many times against becoming reckless, but you never seem to listen, at least in his eyes. You are by no means fragile—porcelain is hard to chip away at—your habit is simply that of finding danger. Finding it, throwing yourself at it, and landing yourself here in the darkest corners of the Fatui's headquarters so the doctor can carefully string you back together.

A gentle touch is not his forte, the practised hands of a doctor toiling away in his effort to put you back together. You prefer him to Sandrone any day for how much less pain you associate with him. He can scold you all he likes, but it may never work. You'll keep coming back and asking for his help when your strings come loose, and he will oblige your request for reasons that escape even him. It is a simple process now performed practically from memory.

Your habit of collecting frankly worthless items is certainly something. The bows, frilly dresses, and varying spools of lace you always claim you'll do something with and never do all feel normal. The porcelain dolls, on the other hand, are...interesting.

You are a living porcelain doll, and yet you collect them like novelty items. Isn't that like your equivalent of collecting human babies? Whatever it is to you, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, so he keeps quiet as you fuss over their placement and hair, straighten their clothes or whether you're willing to sacrifice the careful styling of their hair to a pretty hat. It keeps you happy and away from everything dangerous that you seem to always run into.

The truth is, you are not in the slightest delicate despite making yourself seem that way. What you are is heavy, too heavy to always be lifting onto an operating table and too heavy to be lugging your pieces around—porcelain is not light.

However, there is interest to be had in the workings of your construction, which he is reminded of each time he takes you apart and watches you divide into inanimate pieces. You talk to him sometimes, pleasant background noise, or maybe just annoying when you start asking foolish questions he can't possibly answer. He can handle every "What are you doing?" and "Why are you doing that?" but when you begin to show your ignorance regarding your own creation and try to turn to him for answers instead of Sandrone, it frustrates him. 

You're supposed to answer his questions.

"She doesn't like my questions," you reason, and he never has to wonder why that is. Your incessant prodding and curiosity would irritate her, as does his indulging of your curiosity. She will complain that you're becoming restless and not as quickly satisfied, but really, nothing much at all has changed.

He can deal with your gravitation toward the things that make you happy if that's what keeps a smile on your face. One might even say he doesn't mind it, even when you pester him to help you tie your bows when they come loose in your hair or listen to your ramblings as you try to get him to help you with your dolls. He's better at tying knots than you. His hands have friction to keep the strings in place, unlike your slippery porcelain hands.

Your habits are endearing in their own way, the satisfaction with things that make you feel...human. You will never be, but the illusion of humanity and the yearning to chase it is not unlike the Segments. They think of themselves as human, believe they are, and exist as though they are human, yet they will never be as human as Prime. The only idea that makes sense is that you are displaying the same behaviour.

It is how Sandrone made you to be.

He can't say he especially blames you for following what your creation dictates. Your presence could bother him more than your interests could, namely a result of your many, many questions. It's not that you're sheltered or ignorant of the world around you—far from it—but most people don't know the nature of the things he works on, and you are no exception. You learned everything by asking, and he presents a wormhole of knowledge that you seek to understand by having him explain everything he's doing to you in great detail.

There's a bargaining that comes with it. Dottore will give you things so long as you stay out of the way, and you'll inspect them with a curious eye because he presents you with what Sandrone keeps you from. That is the only reason he can accept as to why you're talking to him, not that you like his voice and his smile, nor that you find the things he says fascinating or enjoy the light brush of his fingers against yours as he passes you your little 'distrations'. It's enough to watch him.

He complains his hands are always cold, and supposedly so are yours, but you've never felt temperature before. You like the faint glimpses of his scars, soft as his skin. They're not like yours, the closest equivalent being jagged cracks in your limbs that someone has to eventually fix before they worsen into breaks. 

Things are comfortable around him. He is used to the odds quirks of sentient, inhuman beings, and a benefit of being around them is that they don't mind how weird he is by most standards.

You are something he can easily get used to lingering around. Despite your similarities to the segments, he must admit that you are far less of a bother.

Taehyung: He is in desperate need for a calm spot of comfort in his life and you are that to him. Far away from all the hectic that comes with being an Idol you are his home and the place where he can 100 percent be himself. After a long day he loves nothing more than to fall onto the couch next to you and hug you tightly until he falls asleep. As you talk about your day, petting his soft hair. I'm mostly just bouncing off the ideas @hereticcryptid shares with me, so the credit for the og discussion of android!jiggy goes to them :'D

That being said, a friend shared her ideas of another android AU some time ago and I loved it so much! I'm still hoping she continues working on that wip some day ^^;

It was ruoyao of course, but included dark LXC and it was so fascinating to me how the roles got pretty much reversed there, with a kind and gentle but possessive LXC that created MY as the perfect partner and went sorta Mothel Gothel on him out of misplaced protectiveness -pretty much the worst side of the Lan gene in canon.

But MY was very curious by nature, yet all the answers he got of the outside world were reduced to "don't worry about it, you have everything you need/want here :)", and eventually escaped, getting in trouble as soon as he stepped outside lol.

Cue uni professor and disgraced inventor/scientist WRH (funny how we all just want to see him fall from grace xD). His research on AI and androids got controversial and eventually seized and "destroyed" by coworker LQR, who saw the danger and immorality in creating something capable of self-awareness. Turns out that it was based on his work that LXC created MY, so when WRH finds a little android wandering around like he was born yesterday (bc he kinda was), he's instantly fascinated with him and takes him in to try to understand how something so advanced could exist.

What I loved about this AU is how ridiculously adorable MY was! He's a mix of his usual cunning mind and eagerness to learn with someone who legit is just experiencing the outside world for the first time, especially since, unlike Rapunzel, he wasn't really fed scary stories of what lurks outside, so he's more trusting. And unlike LXC, WRH is more than happy to teach MY whatever he wants to learn, not only to satisfy his own curiosity about how a machine like that could process knowledge, but also bc he IS a professor and one with hella high standards, so MY is just the perfect student: so well-behave, giving him all his attention and making smart questions and observations. Besides, there's a sense of deja vu the more he learns about how MY works and was created... also he is strained from his sons, so there's that too lol.

At the beginning is all just transactional, MY latching onto someone who is finally willing to indulge his curiosity, and WRH acquiring a little pet project to make up for all the experiments he was never allowed to conduct. But if you know me, you know the relationship doesn't stay there xD.

Sadly, bestie didn't continue the story behond that and tbh I don't remember much of what came later from my conversations with her, other than LXC eventually going out looking for MY with the help of other androids he created that weren't as perfect as MY, like the Nie bros.

I must confess that I haven't thought of android!JGY myself, but it's a great concept that I should probaky dedicate more brain power to :'D

tbh I'm still Hoping Chef will be Brought back in the next film as it could be Hella emotional and also further explore some Good old fashioned Branch angst which the Trolls writers seem to love 😭😭

I know I've talked about this before but eh I wanna talk about it some more lol as I'm in love with the story potential of Chef coming back.

but yeah I Hope this does happen cause there's so much potential here for an emotional story involving Branch and his Bros coming face to face with her.

in the first movie its always struck me as a little Disappointing that Chef being the one who killed Branch's Grandmother was never mentioned in present day

I know logically neither Chef or Branch himself would Remember since Branch was only a little kid who saw her for a split second and for Chef it was just a normal day at work.

but from a writing standpoint I Do find it Disappointing more wasn't done with this in the first movie.

I feel her coming back in the next film could work especially well if it takes place not too much time after TBT so the film could still explore some left over issues in the family

plus some more Branch angst that the writers love showing lol.

I'd probably have the movie open with something like Branch his Brothers and Grandma all sat around having Dinner happily chatting away and whatnot only for a hand to come crashing in Grabbing Grandma away

as Branch can only Helplessly watch and then his Bros all start blaming him saying why wasn't he more carful and why did he let it happen

with Floyd especially telling him that he promised him he would take care of her and then the Brothers all walk out for good while Chef's laughter can be heard in the background and Branch is just sat on his own and he looks down at his hand and sees he's turning Grey.

and then Chef's Hand comes back in and Grabs him and he's screaming for help only to see there's no one around that cares and

Branch struggles to try and break free but its Hopeless and Chef just laughs and is about to put Branch in her mouth.

only for him to then wake up in his Bed in a panicked sweat and we see him telling himself to breath feeling his chest and trying to calm himself down

making it clear this is far from the first time this has happened and he already knows what to do in these situations.

FR I like the idea of the movie opening with an angsty nightmare scene for Branch showing his still lingering Trauma in present day.

Both over his perceived failure and guilt over what happened to Grandma not to mention his Brothers leaving again and of course a Fear of Chef herself

not only for killing Grandma but also how close she came to killing him in the first movie.

so opening the movie showing some still lingering Trauma that maybe he Refuses to open up to his Brothers about because he's afraid they may blame him for Grandma's death

like he did himself for all those years and maybe they'd leave again I feel would be neat way to start the film where Chef comes back imo.

especially if the whole movie or at the very least just the climax was about Poppy and the Brothers needing to save Branch

after he's captured maybe after a family argument and he goes off on his own only to get snatched by Chef.

as the whole family coming together to save him from Chef the source of his Greatest Trauma like come on that'd be emotional as Hell 😭😭😭😭

also I do just really wanna see Branch actually confront Chef over Grandma like maybe when he's captured he finally angrily confronts her over it only for Chef to casually Dismiss him

stating she doesn't Remember that day or her at all Hurting Branch at his core since that day obviously has stuck with him for his whole life and changed who he was

but for her it wasn't special it was just a Regular Tuesday.

and of course in the end it'd be satisfying and sweet to see Poppy and Brozone Rescuing Branch and maybe for Chef's comeuppance in the end

I kinda like the idea that Due to some chemicals or magic crap that she'd been messing around with as part of her Grander plan she ends up being shrunken down

to the point she's actually smaller than a Troll like lets say the size of Tiny Diamond so she's basically Rendered Harmless to the Trolls and she tries to attack the main characters

but Brozone just playfully pick her up and toss her back and fourth and in the end they just throw her in a cage with Branch somewhat smugly

Remarking something along the lines of him not being able to believe he was ever afraid of her

with Chef looking a little pissed off to say the least 😂😂😂😂

kinda well and truly confronting the source of his nightmares and feeling a little better about himself as a Result

and also I'd end the film with him finally sitting down with his Brothers and talking more about Grandma

as he finally feels more comfortable about opening up to them about these kinds of things now.

so yeah fingers crossed Chef comes back it wouldn't be too Hard to explain maybe she landed on the cooker inside the creature's Belly and used her knife kit to climb her way out or forced the creature to throw her up or something.

the why's and how's don't really matter too much to me I just think she'd be a perfect Returning Villain for a future film given the significance she has to Brozone as a family and Branch himself.

since she basically made him who he is.

also if Chef is Revealed to be alive in movie cannon then hey it'd be a perfect chance to Bring Creek back in movie cannon as well 😂😂😂😂

be it as a Villain or a Redeemed character who warns pop Village about Chef's plans after overhearing them

maybe he hid inside her Hair so he could hitch a Ride out of the mountain creature lol and afterwards he hides in their for a while and

overhears Chef recruit some henchmen maybe some Bergens who still believe in the old ways and want her to overthrow Gristle JR

and he hears her plans and after waiting for her to fall asleep he sneaks out and runs back to the Village tho he had no idea where they were so it takes him months and months to find his way back lol

which could be how our main characters find out she's alive and planning something and thus kicks off the whole story.

just an idea as Chef coming back does make it very easy to bring Creek back as well 😁😁😁😁

I was thinking that my only problem with this story idea is that it doesn't Really give much for Poppy in Terms of character Development in this story

but maybe if Creek did Return then Poppy's mini side arc could be her learning to give him another chance after being less than Receptive to him returning

and not wanting to give him another chance despite claiming he's sorry and clearly wanting a chance to make amends hence why he came to them with this info

but we see Poppy struggle more with her own ideals of believing people can change and giving out second chances when its someone who she was Emotionally Hurt by Personally

so yeah maybe that could be a mini arc for her if the film did bring Creek back as well.

I've been working on it on and off lately tbh for multiple reasons, a lot of life stuff happened shortly after I posted 3, and when those finally settled I hit my shitty mental health months, and those are finally at a close now that the new year has started, aaaaaaand my main focus atm is actually trying to get my webcomic up and running (I'm hoping to start posting that in march, still got some background things to get through for that)

BUT I AM STILL WORKING ON THE LUCILITH FIC I PROIMSE

Actually, after the helluvaboss mastermind episode I really wanted to get back into it cuz of that micro Lucifer not-cameo. It's kinda hard for me to stay engaged with it a bit tho, none of my irl friends wanna chat with me about Lucifer and the one that at least listens to my ramblings hasn't read the fic

I usually try to reread comments or rewatch episodes, but there's only so many times I can rewatch Dad Beat Dad XD

it doesn't help that chapter 4 is the one I knew I'd struggle with a lot? I had very clear ideas for chapters 1, 2, 3 and 5 but not 4. 4 is kind of in there because there's too big of a time skip between 3 and 5 that it'd be awkward

Plus I do want to explore some things that so far haven't been explained in the show

The man waited. 

“So would you mind repeating all of that over again?” Lucifer asked. 

“ARE YOU KIDDING ME???” the man pulled on his hair in frustration, “WHY???” 

The man had been monologuing at Lucifer for over an hour after he summoned him, and... to be quite honest, Lucifer had zoned out almost immediately. The guy’s voice was rather.... Drone-ish...

“I got distracted by something and missed a few details,” Lucifer played it off. 

The man kicked a rock and then began pacing angrily, muttering something about having messed up the ritual before spinning around to face Lucifer, “YOU’RE Lucifer?”

“Correct.”

“As in the scourge of heaven, the absolute ruler of hell?

“Yeppers.”

“One of the most powerful angels that ever existed.”

“Uh huh,” Lucifer picked at his teeth with his claws.

“ARE. YOU. SURE???”

They both stared at each other for a minute before Lucifer shrugged, “Listen, I don’t know what the problem is. You summoned me, and I can’t leave until either I help you or you decide you actually don’t want me here. So what. do. you. want????”

“I want the literal devil! I want a miracle heaven can’t take away or mess up! Not some short pale blonde man who can’t even pay attention to the conversation!” The man flopped on the ground exasperated. 

Lucifer sighed. He had been enjoying seeing earth again after so long and for a moment he felt the briefest twinge of his old love for humans tug at his heart, “Listen, just give me a short version of what you want.” 

“How on earth did you even get distracted anyways??”

“I was thinking of my wife,” Lucifer admitted. The way their conversation had ended lingered in his mind and weighed in his heart in a way he couldn’t properly describe.

The man stared at him, “YOU’RE MARRIED?????”

“You don’t know about Lilith???” Lucifer grabbed him by the collar, “She’s the most amazing person to ever exist! She’s twelve feet tall, gorgeous, so so smart, gorgeous, she’s actually doing most of the ruling of hell right now, gorgeous, her hair is super long and gorgeous, she’s incredibly smart and kind and zealous, ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS and-,”

“I don’t want to hear about your wife!” the man interrupted. 

“You what?” Lucifer felt so offended on Lilith’s behalf that his eyes glowed red. 

The man’s eyes widened and he scooted away on the ground in alarm, “Nonono I-... what I meant umm... She sounds amazing, why were you thinking about her??” he smiled nervously. 

Because last time I was on earth, I was with her and I wish she were here now. But we also had a fight and I don’t know how to fix that. I don’t think I’m wrong, heaven is awful and she’s taking a big risk trying to work with an angel from up there and like who even IS this guy??? Why does he think he can get heaven on board with something I couldn’t?? I mean I was a high seraphim, and if I couldn’t enact change then I doubt anyone who was lower ranking could either without getting instantly smited, and I’m so worried about her even though I know she can handle herself, but I don’t want her getting hurt by heaven and why can’t she just understand that heaven is never going to change, and the sinners aren’t worth the effort, they’re horrible people who got sent to hell for a reason, I mean like, what if they hurt her too?? Oh god Lilith is all I have left, for centuries she’s all that I’ve had, my only source of happiness left! I don’t even know who I am anymore, I can’t recognize myself in the mirror, but when I’m around her it’s like there’s still some part of me that I know and it’s the part of me that loves her, I love her so much- I don’t know what I’d do if I lost her or or-

A million thoughts raced through Lucifer’s head so fast that all he managed to blurt out for the man was, “shepretty.” 

They stared at each other as Lucifer struggled to keep a poker face on and the man waited for him to say more, too afraid to try and change the topic. 

After a moment longer, Lucifer snapped his fingers and out of the ground popped out a chair made of stone. The man stared wide eyed as Lucifer sat in it and then brought them back to the original problem at hand, “Three sentences or less, what do you want me to do for you?”

I thought it'd be a dirty crack-fic one-shot, but now it's turning into an actual JaySlade getting together story, featuring some batfam feels, too. Also, Slade ambushes Jason on a rooftop and turns him into a hot mess, so that's pretty great too.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I think it's fine if it's done well and respectfully. And it is useful in situations where you want the reader to be able to translate something if they want, but you still don't want the POV Character to know what's being said.

Year in Review: Games Part 1

This is a series I've been wanting to do for a while. Whenever I finish a piece of media (books, games, movies, comics, maybe art and music in the future) I jot in down in a doc so I can look back on them at the end of the year. I wanted to write my thoughts on them as I finished them, but since you have to start somewhere, I'll be writing simple reviews in retrospect. This is just for fun, but I welcome any feedback.

Pokemon Scarlet

This game released with some controversy. It was an unfinished glitchy mess with graphics still not up to the standards of the Nintendo Switch six years into its lifespan, but tbh this game was fun as hell to complete. I loved most of all the new designs and managed for the first time in my Pokemon career to actually complete the Dex. I usually get worn down on that pretty quick.

The characters were also much more engaging than the previous generation, especially my best boy Arven. The environments were super fun to explore and I got a new favorite little guy (Slither Wings my beloved). Here's hoping the next game has an actual sane development cycle and we get this amount of creativity in a higher degree of quality with better paid developers.

Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations

If you thought I only played games that came out this year, sorry to disappoint. I don't manage to pick up even half of the blockbusters that pop up annually, and go after older games way more often. That being said, I see why AA fans hold this game up so high. I played the first and second Phoenix Wright games last year (which I won't review since that was too long ago now) and this is a nice cap to the original Trilogy.

You get Phoenix's background as a dorky bisexual art student, Mia's first case as a defense attorney, and an honestly heartbreaking quest for revenge through Godot while never stooping to melodrama. (I love his theme it sounds like the Mother 3 Magypsies). Also unlike the first two games, there were zero "filler" cases. Each one was thoroughly engaging and moved the plot forward in a meaningful way. Though, I don't begrudge the earlier cases that fuck around a lot more.

Pokemon White 2

When the OG Black and White came out, I was in the "everything new is lame" stage of adolescence, so when the sequels came out I didn't even bother. Turns out I was the lame one for doing so! In hindsight, Pokemon seemed to reach something of a peak with Gen 5 in terms of graphics and gameplay, and would seek to experiment with new artstyles and gimmicks for the next (looks at watch) 11 years damn.

With the first Black and White, it focused on remodeling classic Pokemon designs and gameplay into something new and modern, and these games add back in most of those classic Mons. The plot is also very action-packed and engaging, and gives a satisfying epilogue for a lot of the characters from the first games. You get to see how the region has changed after 3 years and even get to explore some new parts of Unova, similar to how the Gen 2 games handled Kanto. I hope Gamefreak does something like this again in the future.

Kingdom Hearts: Re:Coded

Prepare for a deluge of this series, and not in any conceivable order. Kingdom Hearts took over my heart, mind, and body Xehanort style for the better half of the year. This title is known for a fun variety of gameplay and an absolute dogshit story. I wouldn't really agree. The game switches up its playstyle pretty frequently, including side-scrolling platforming, railshooting, and turn-based combat but for the most part its classic hack-and-slash 3D platforming that feels kind of grindy, but there's multiple unlockable difficulty sliders that you can use to switch it up if you get bored.

Storywise, there's not a lot for newcomers and if you want to play through all the games as one overarching narrative, I wouldn't blame you for skipping this one. However, if you're already a fan of Sora and Riku's relationship, this has quite a bit for someone to dig their teeth into. The world's are all recycled from KH1, making this one of the two games where you can actually explore Destiny Islands, but they all feel pretty downgraded. The endgame gave me a headache.

Kingdom Hearts

Our best boy's first big boot step into adventure. I watched all of the KH cutscenes for all of the games during a particularly dry season of lockdown, so this was my first foray into the original. The story genuinely holds up to a surprising degree, leaning into the Disney elements more than its Squaresoft side for probably the last time in the series. Its really good groundwork for Sora's introduction as a hero, I especially love the assertion towards the end that it is Sora's choice to help others that makes him worthy of the Keyblade and not destiny. Its a theme that would be both muddied and compounded upon later in the series in a pretty interesting way.

I was almost astonished at how in-depth all of the worlds are, especially Traverse Town. There are a lot more little Disney references and sidequests, like the 101 Dalmation quest, that help the worlds all feel a bit more lively. Also NPCs, which later in the series would become a rare gift. I fucked up on the combat. Did not learn how to do spell shortcuts until midway through KH2. Despite that, it was still fun to wack Heartless with my keyblades six different ways, and it makes me excited to replay it at some point.

Kingdom Hearts II

This is the big boy that every KH fan loves to absolute death. Chain of Memories had already started the series tradition of experimental storytelling, but the mainline sequel takes it to an fascinating and well-executed degree. For the first three hours you are forced into playing a new protagonist with zero context and near zero Disney shit. Vivi is there though and we love him for that. Later on we would see this prologue as the tragic conclusion of another entry in the series, but its initial presence here is jarring in a way you have to piece together throughout the rest of the main game. It would also introduce many of the more headache-inducing plot aspects that are fun to dissect but a pain to explain, such as Nobodies. I see them as ghosts, and no one can tell me otherwise. I wrote a whole absurdist retelling about it.

The worlds are more quantity than quality, I'll be real. About half of them are made up of 4 or 5 flat maps with nothing to do except grind Heartless encounters, (e.g. Mulan.) The other half are a bit meatier but could have benefited from more sidequests and such. You revisit quite a few from KH1 to see how they changed and that's always fun. There's a theme to each of the Disney worlds that add to the narrative, in this title mainly being romance and identity. The identity aspect leans toward the relationship between Sora and Roxas, two separate people who are also one person, while the romance theme hints towards the relationship with Sora and Kairi. Oddly enough, both themes also seem to work towards Sora's quest for Riku, who is in the midst of his own identity crisis while Sora desperately tries to find him. Huh. Interesting.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep

This is my favorite Kingdom Hearts game. This was one of the few I was able to play as a teenager and even after all these years I still adore this game to death. It works without knowing anything else about Kingdom Hearts. You don't need to know about Ansems or Nobodies or Time Travel; none of that shit. This is the story of three friends that get torn apart by their own ignorance and one bitter old man on his quest to change the world. Its one story split among three perspectives, and each character you play through the game with you understand the grander narrative. You understand why Aqua's best friend snapped at her, why Terra's little brother is so ready to die. You also get to hear Leonard Nemoy yell "KEYBLADE" in the same cutscene three different times.

I love this game so so much dammit. The combat has a fun collection system where you earn action commands and combine them to make better attacks and healing moves. The worlds in the latter half of the game are also really creative and fun to explore, though you get a limited area to move around in for each character. If you have played previous KH entries, there's a lot of references to make you point at the screen and go "THAS AXEL THAS MY BOY HE'S A LIL GUY HERE." Anyway I'll shut up. Play this game.

Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance

Never ask me to explain the plot of this game. They added Inception to Kingdom Hearts and also Time Travel. And the story is mostly told through unlockable backstory cutscenes including the premise. Yes, the introduction to this game's story is an unlockable. Despite this, the story is pretty effective. This is Riku's second time in the spotlight since Reverse/Rebirth, though the game is once again split between him and Sora. It dissects Riku's character arc in a similar way to Re:Coded, except uhh this one isn't a computer simulation, he is a Dream. Completely different. It asserts his desire to continue as Sora's protector, and realizing this it is him who ultimately triumph's over Angst Teen Xehanort, saves Sora and passes the Key Test. He's no longer on his Way to the Dawn. He's in the light. It's sweet.

The worlds in this game are based around vertical movement. There's a new Parkour mechanic that lets you wall-step-flip around basically everywhere, and to compensate this the worlds are Huge. Since they're dreams, that also means they're pretty empty of anything to really do or explore. They are pretty at least. There's also a pokemon mechanic where you collect lil guys. I did not realize this mechanic also determines Riku and Sora's stats until the final boss, which caught me off guard. I see why this is a lot of people's fave KH game of all time, but its a little too busy for me.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages

This is an odd one. I first played this game two years ago at college alongside Oracle of Seasons in my spare time. Eventually my phone-I MEAN MY AUTHENTIC GAME BOY COLOR- broke and I thought I lost my save data for both. Turns out I did not and finished through the last few dungeons. This game makes solid use of the time travel mechanic, which is a mix of Ocarina's time travel and Alttp's world jumping. It's fun to jump sporadically between 1000s of years and see the world in different eras. That rock? Used to be slightly over to the left. Would you look at that.

The dungeons had a larger focus on puzzles in comparison with Season's love for combat, which is probably why this is the more beloved twin. Some of the dungeons had me waddling back and forth for too long until I figured out what to do. You can link these games up to get bonus items like the Biggoron's Sword which is fun to complete. After beating both games, you get an extra final boss against Ganon and a scene hinting towards the beginning of Link's Awakening, which is a nice touch. And then Nintendo declared them two separate Links, for some reason. Beh.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

Oh hey. One of the most beloved games of all time. I have played through this games more times than I know. Probably around like. 6 times I used to boot this game up and play all the way up to the Forest Temple and then restart for some reason, I don't know how many times I actually got to the end.

Its a game that eases you into its idyllic fantasy world before dropping you headfirst into the apocalypse you inadvertently caused in your quest to destroy evil. Its never a melodramatic game though. Its about the loss of innocence. Maturity. Learning that the evil was always there, before the King of Thieves took over the world, before you were even born. It even came from the place you are trying to protect. But there was always goodness too, there was always light. There are always friends to be found in dark places. The style and presentation are peak. The dungeons are rich in aesthetics and well made puzzles. The time travel mechanic is honestly a bit undercooked. But this game is fantastic. Quintessential Zelda.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure

I straight-up forgot I played this. Its fun though. Its a relatively short game, but compared to its predecessor, its a huge improvement. The game plays out in stages like the first Four Swords game, but usually in explorable environments, like towns and forests rather than generic volcano and cave themes. You control all Four Links at once, moving them into different formations to move rocks or put fires out. Or you can do it with friends controlling each Link. I did not. :(

I was mainly interested in this games story from a lore perspective. It features the return of Vaati, the Wind Creep who Lova Da Ladies, but with the addition of the Rise of Ganondorf. You are sent to stop him from a wise owl, Ganon allies himself with Deku Scrubs, attacks the Gorons, and is eventually turned into a monster by his own lust for power. It seems more and more like a retelling of Ocarina in a different light. Eh. Maybe I'll write about my Zelda timeline theories in a different post. Not here though

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory

BACK TO KH BABY! This is a rhythm game, so I don't have too much to say. I've never really played any rhythm game before this, and I'm not sure if this one is on par with the more well-known rhythm titles out there, but I had a good time with it. Its great for people who like Kingdom Hearts music, lmao. You have a lot of unlockable character groups to play through the music with and level them up, but once I unlocked the Days trio I didn't really go for the others too much. Xion my beloved.

The story is hilariously shallow, almost insulted considering its Kairi's first solo outing, technically. She's on her quest to learn all the KH lore she missed out on, and eventually finds a repressed memory of a grown adult monologuing at a toddler for fifteen minutes. Also that her boyfriend is alive so that her boyfriend's boyfriend can go save him. Her boyfriend's boyfriend is also her boyfriend. Fight me.

Kingdom Hearts III

People were. So upset when this game came out. Acted like it was the biggest disappointment since the ill-fated economic crisis of '07. Sure, yea, that's a reference. Well this is the first time I've gone into it and I'm here to say this is probably among my favorite KH games of all time. Strong competitor with BBS. A lot of the criticisms of the story and gameplay weren't wrong per-say, but the issues with this game, such a goofy dialogue, bizarre pacing, and over complicated exposition dumps, are problems with the entire series that fans of the series, in my opinion, have come to see as endearing elements of Kingdom Hearts. Its funny to watch the big cloak guy point at Sora and say "Darkness Light Heart Darkness," and see Sora gasp in fear, while also realizing the importance of that dialogue to the story. It's a feature, not a bug.

The worlds in this game are its biggest asset. They are huge, heavily detailed, heavily explorable areas with tons to discover. Hell, the Pirates of the Caribbean world acts as a slightly smaller Wind Waker. The game adds in most of the mechanics from all the spin offs to give you a lot of toys to play with, such as parkour or sharpshooting, that are easy to forget but a treat to use when you actually remember them.

A central theme of each of the Disney worlds is happy endings. Hercules finally takes down Hades for good. Mike and Sully are able to visit Boo without risk to her safety. The dead Baymax from that one Disney movie gets a redemption arc. Frozen and Tangled play out exactly as their movie which is kind of boring. This correlates with the happy endings the rest of the supporting cast get to experience, including the initially tragedies of the BBS and Days trio in scenes that genuinely got tears out of me. But Sora doesn't get a happy ending. He sacrifices himself to strong-arm everyone else into their perfect circumstance. Literally breaks the rules of time and space to force the universe into saving his friends at the cost of his own life. And then Hell turns out to be Tokyo so its not all that bad. It makes you feel for the boy. This game also lets you play as Kairi in the DLC which makes me happy.

Alright ending this here. I've played way too many games this year this isn't even half. Also only including games I've finished, and games with definitive endings. I played Mario Kart 7 but that doesn't rlly end, ya know? Will try to write these weekly, even if no ones reading them. But if you do read them tell me what you think! Gonna switch over to books next week to even it out. I swear I don't just play games. This is the last Kingdom Hearts game on this list too I swear.

Mass game post morten! - 15 days of making tiny games!

Hey I know I have been out for a while, but I've been participating in this game jam recently and I thought I'd share. I've been making one tiny game every weekened. The idea is to only take 3 hours to make but so far I always took a little bit too long. I wanted to share my experience with each project and show the results! I think I have improved a lot! Consider this a sort of a mass post mortem for all of them.

A game about not crying at work

This was the first game I made. The theme that week was No thinking allowed. I decided to then make a game about avoiding thinking of something. Then this made me think of someone trying to focus on their work but being burdened with a recent breakup.

This became No tears allowed a game about not crying at work. The entire idea is that Anna got dumped by her girfriend and the mere thought of it will make her cry. She has to work though which means she'll have to not think about it until she gets home.

I created this simple mechanic that was inspired by one of these:

The mechanic is very similar if you ever played with one of those pop-it games but in no tears allowed you are turning her love thoughts into work thoughts. It took me 3h:40 min to finish. Ironically my best timing....

The second one was Declutter Santa. The theme was free space and the first thing that came to mind was to declutter. I had a ton of different concepts, but I decided to go with one that is a physical game. It's a simple game about friends giving gifts to eachother, but all the gifts are good condition items they don't use.

I liked the tiny cards and the mechanics. It's a very cute game, but I also wasn't completely satisfied with the results in some places. I'll say I was sad with the itch page visuals and I wish I could have polished the game more. I might later fix it up a bit once it has had some time to simmer. I took 4 hours on this one.

Tbh, I just wanted to make a death game visual novel

This is not a 3 hour game! This one was for a different jam and it took me about a week to get done. It's called shockwave and it's a sort of first chapter of a death game story. I'd love to expand it later, I just don't know when I'd get to it.

So this jam had no theme, it just had a couple limitations:

1000 words max

1 sprite

1 background

1 song

1 sound effect

Basically the entire idea is to make the game with one of each asset. It's a super fun Jam and I loved working on showckwave and I was mostly happy with the results. I wish I could have done more but the jam limitations really made me struggle (specially word count).

Still I'm happy with the project and I plan to expand it someday into a full death game visual novel.

A game about isolation during the apocalypse

This is another tiny visual novel, but this time for the 3 hour jam. I still failed miserably at 6 hours! Of all of them this is probably the project I'm the most proud of. I feel like I got to polish it more so it feels more complete.

The theme was The great Unknown, so I made a game about a woman stationed in her cabin during the apocalypse. She has survived a whole year now after mysterious beings took over people. She can't trust anyone, because any person could be one of them. However as she is browsing the radio she hears a girl broadcasting asking for help. You can choose to ignore her or help her.

At the start this wasn't what I intended, but as I worked on it, the game became about how scary it can be to get to know new people. You never know how other people are gonna react and if you're gonna meet some nice or someone mean. For those who are socially anxious, these interactions feel like life or death scenarios, so I made a story in which social interaction is an actual life or death scenario.

So here it is! This is my mass post morten of all my games this month! I'll try to make posts as I release them this time. Maybe even post stuff as I work on them. I've been enjoying making these tiny games because I can get them out quickly and learn with each one. I've seen a lot of improvment from the first one to the last one.

1. What's something new you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out and would you do it again?

well.... the new thing I tried this year was writing fic PERIOD so I'm breaking new ground with every new fic tbh. it turned out pretty good, apparently, you bet I'm gonna do it again!

11. What fic was the most satisfying to finish writing?

all of them, really, but probably 3rd chapter of If We Live. it's still ongoing but that chapter was really important and loooong and I'm really happy with how it turned out

19. Share your favorite opening line

putting the whole first paragraph from Independent 'cause I'm really proud of it. funny thing, I didn't really know how to start that fic so I just typed the word "start" and then it evolved into this:

Start. When did this start? In the room with the alive parts of their dead sister? After, in self-imposed isolation and lies about feeling better? Or did the drift start before? Too slow to notice, driving them away from each other like the expansion of the universe itself making matter grow distant, and the void — ever greater, until all connection is lost. Severed. Gravity pull no longer pulling. Vash rolls this bit of pondering around, but without much consideration or focus: he followed this line of thought so many times over the last century, the thread of it weaved itself into the background tapestry of his headspace. A much more piercing thought tears through it at the moment. He just wants this to end.

So the finale is tomorrow.

I have finished rewatching seasons 1 and 2. I will rewatch season 3 tonight and try not to be too mad about the fact that I can binge the whole season in one sitting.

It turns out that rewatching the series did not in fact fix my dadrius brainrot. I still care about the found family angle so much more than any of the other tropes and plot points tbh.

But I have already manifested dadrius to the very best of my ability. It is now time to instead try to Manage My Expectations again. Like I legit don't think I've ever been this invested in a series finale. It's a problem. Even without the characterization and tonal issues in the show, there is just no way for the finale to meet my excessively high expectations at this point lol. I've gotta go into this with an open mind.

But I did make a list of things that I want to see that I'm at least decently confident we could get. I will put it out into the void that is tagless tumblr so that I can get it all out of my mind before the episode:

Belos dies. Preferably in a way that doesn't further traumatize Luz or Hunter or anyone else. I hope he suffers <3

The Collector is thwarted. I do not care how. I don't really care what happens to him tbh. Just give me a society to work with post-canon that isn't ruled by a god child pls.

A satisfying reunion between Luz, Eda, and King. Let me revel in the emotion. Stop separating them. It'll be great.

The trauma ends. I still seriously do not want to see Luz and Hunter forced into this roleplay. I don't want them reinforcing Luz's perception that she's villainous - only undermining it. I don't want to see Hunter put back into the abusive situation that he just escaped. But I will tolerate whatever they do just so long as it decisively ends and gives the kids space to heal afterwards.

All of the kids get to reunite with their parents. Even if it's in the background. I want to see Gus reunite with his dad, Willow with both of her dads, and Amity with Alador. Yes, all of them. Give me caring parents comforting their kids. This one is a reach, but I just really really want it okay?

Camila-Eda interaction. Luz has to be splitting her time between realms by the end of this. So I want some sort of idea of how this new co-parenting relationship will work, and what Eda and Camila think of each other. Just as a jumping off point for post-canon.

Darius and Hunter reunion, so long as it doesn't drastically undermine their relationship. I don't even need any huge focus on it, I get that it's a relationship between two side characters. I really just need them to take these characters and this relationship seriously enough for me to work with it post-canon. I will fill in all of the blanks, I swear, just give them one (1) positive interaction and I will live off of it forever.

Addressing Hunter's living situation. It doesn't have to be a permanent decision, but I do want them to at least acknowledge that like. This is a homeless child we've got right here. At least let me know where he's going to sleep that night maybe idk.

And that is officially too many expectations lol. I mean, 55 minutes is plenty of time for all of this but like. I know my priorities don't really line up with the writers. So it's fine. It's done, it's out there, I am Letting Go of these expectation now, I swear.

notes: heeseung is older than y/n by a year and niki a year younger. y/n’s lowkey kinda toxic but we won’t get into that right now lol. niki and y/n are close friends but he would def take his chance if given. i kinda wanna turn this au universe into a small series so let me know what y’all think :)

the time reads 12:30am when your phone suddenly vibrates.

“hello?”

“you seriously would’ve came only for niki?”heeseung questions, and you can hear the whine wanting to break through his voice. he’s out of breath after playing basketball for about three hours straight and you’ve concluded he just got out the gym now.

“well did i show up? no, so there’s your answer” you reply, both loving and hating this conversation in the earliest hour of day.

this morning heeseung had asked if you’d want to come watch him play since he’d be coming to town. making up some excuse and saying no, he must’ve found out that you told niki you wouldn’t have denied the invite if you knew that he was going to be there as well.

heeseung lets out an annoyed groan into the mic, followed by you rolling your eyes.

“whatever, you’re fake for that” heeseung follows and you can hear him unlocking his car, faint voices in the background.

“oh my god, you guys started at 9:30!” you huff in annoyance but a smirk stays put on your face. “that’s so late, i wasn’t gonna come no matter what.”

“stop lying, you stay up until this time anyway.”

“i get into bed around 9!”

a low chuckle leaves heeseung’s throat as he shakes his head. he doesn’t understand this push and pull game that you play with him but he can’t seem to get himself to walk away. you’re intoxicating, your voice and attention like poison that he wants to keep to himself any chance he gets.

“whatever. i’ll just see you another time then,” he says quietly, although not quiet enough. you can hear the rest of his friends begin to pile into his car and one voice in particular catches your attention.

“who is that? y/n?” niki’s voice is loud compared to the rest. you can hear the “ooohs” and laughter of everyone else in the car while heeseung groans once again, ready to leave this place and start the 45 minute drive back home.

the shuffling of hands take over before a sweet voice leaves the phone.

“hiii y/n~” niki greets, the normal flirty tone in his voice flowing through your right ear. niki gives heeseung a mischievous grin and heeseung turns to face the front of the car. a giggle escapes out of you and you smile. oh how toxic, but so entertaining.

“awh hi niki, i missed you” you say through a pout. the car goes wild, signaling to you that yup, you are now on speaker phone. you can practically hear heeseung slap his palm to his face, ruffling his hair in slight frustration and turning back to face his younger friend with his phone.

niki chuckles and pulls the phone closer to his mouth.

“oh i missed you too princess, but your boyfriend over here is giving me death glares. i’ll text you later.” he grins and hands the phone back to heeseung. you hum in reply and soon enough the rest of the guys are laughing together. heeseung turns off the speaker and puts the phone back to his ear, turning onto the highway.

“don’t ever talk to me again,” he spits out quietly, his eyebrows are scrunched together with god who knows how many feelings.

“like you’ll be able to handle yourself without me anyway” and the satisfied grin makes home on your face again.

“oh shut up.”

“mhmm, now stop talking to me and focus on driving. call me when you get home,” you say softly as sleep takes over your body. you can visualize how pink heeseung’s cheeks are glowing, just as you intended.

thank god it’s dark out right now because if any of his friends were to see just how down bad he is for you he wouldn’t be able to take another hit. and god forbid heeseung actually wants to make it home without having to throw one of his homies out the van.

so he clears his throat before giving you a final answer.

“yeah yeah, just go to bed lazy ass. i’ll call you in the morning.”

you let out a laugh, now its your turn to blush.

“that’s what i thought,” you mumble through your tired lips before hanging up the phone.

heeseung drops his phone into the cup holder as a shy smile grows on his face. he doesn’t know how exactly he got himself stuck in your trap, but he can’t help but know that he’s slowly getting yourself to unlock it.

“better watch out heeseung,” sunghoon starts from the back seat, a snicker leaving jake’s lips.

“mister steal your girl over here might just be your biggest threat.”

Art Notes: I finally finished my first square for the Witch!Sam Bingo!🙌 I’ve been trying to do that for a year now, but I couldn’t settle on an idea for any of the squares. Finally, last month I had sketched out this on cardstock paper, thinking I should try again at another traditional ink and marker drawing:

And I like where this sketch was heading. I was like what’s not to love with mixing classical spn with witch!Sam elements? But, I knew I should just take it over to digital instead of risking me screwing up the inking process with traditional mediums. So I took a picture of it and traced, adjusted, and fixed stuff in Sai. But, it took me so long to get it all done because I kept procrastinating with it. I was just, for some reason, struggling to work on it. Eventually, when I got to the end of the shading and all of the lighting stages I mainly just slapped it all down just to get it done. I wanted to be finished. It’s been hard to art lately. I can get spurts of art in every once in a while but it is not reliable.

The background was an image of a cornfield I found on google that I took to Ps elements 15 to motion blur and change the coloration, lighting, and shading. I really could not be bothered to do a hand drawn background here. And tbh, I don’t think it would have turned out as well if I did. I’m actually pretty happy with how the background turned out.

I probably should have Gaussian blurred Dean but, I didn’t want to take the time. The me right now is satisfied enough with it.

References that I used for Sam and Dean: For Sam’s face I referenced a flipped 7x06. Sam and Dean’s outfits/body’s and inside of Baby I referred to both 1x02 and 1x05 where Sam and Dean are in the car. For the wolf I referenced two google images of an orange-ish wolf that I thought looked pretty. (One that was just a side profile of the head. The other a full body side profile)

I have no idea how to approach the other eight squares, but I’m hopeful that I’ll get some ideas eventually. It’s a lucky thing for me that the bingo decided to drop the deadline. Otherwise none of this would have happened.

But, for now I can at least cross one off the grid.

I didn’t really listen to anything specific for this....well I did keep relistening/rewatching electricmonk’s vid for a little bit towards the end so that kind of counts. Too gorgeous of a vid not to rec anyways.
