i've kind of been thinking about the unwhitewashing edits i do on the winx source,, over the years, multiple people have outright said that they sometimes skip over posts where i fix their skin tone because they see the art style (s8, wow, etc) and immediately assume it's whitewashed then realize it's not after seeing it's the source blog or the caption and it's making me think,,, that's probably a big reason why so many people in the fandom constantly reblog/support whitewashed fanart. it's like they're not even seeing the skin tone, they're just seeing the art style and the character?
#not to sound bitchy but that's gotta be a white people thing#like the First thing i do is like at the skin tones??#and im not saying this in a oo im better than you kind of way#i mean it genuinely#if youre in the wi.nx fandom looking at their skin is the first thing you should Always do#doesnt matter who the artist/editor is. ALWAYS look at their skin first#its not just the unwhitewashing edits like if im posting anything where i fix their skin whether its edits icons or gifs#some people Don't notice unless the caption specifically calls it out#and like. i really do think that says a lot about how wi.nx fans interact with art and edits#like the in s8 gifset i just posted i didnt specifically call out the fact its unwhitewashed#and even though flora was in the first gif. people didnt notice! they saw that it was s8 and immediately ignored it#and like. on one hand i Get it but also? the unwhitewashing is Not subtle like its very very obvious that i fixed their skin tone#its just so weird to me that some people dont notice? like.. How?? how do your eyes just glaze over the skin??#id love like an actual explanation because i Dont get it

reading summary - march
vespertine, by margaret rogerson: i really enjoyed this one, YA but no romance, about a horrible fucked up little death nun who gets possessed by a bitchy ghost and becomes a joan of arc figure in a fantasy french setting. whats not to like really
river of teeth, by sarah gailey: this one's like alternate history lousiana, usa, with hippo cowboys. the concept fucks, but i was definitely hoping for more mystery than this novella had, possibly due to it being a novella? but if you like fantasy cowboys u gotta check this one out
sword, stone, table: old legends, new voices, edited by jenn northington and swapna krishna: LOVED this anthology, lots of really interesting retellings of arthuriana. my favourite was flat white by jessica plummer which is about elaine who works at a coffeeshop and gets tangled up with regular customers lancelot/arthur/guinevere in a messy codependant poly situation and i genuinely think about it such a lot. really really well written,,,
lorehaven bound by joy demorra: love ursula cant wait to see more ursula!!
the starfang trilogy by joy chng: hugely let down by these. theyre about werewolf clans in space which sounds great but they were super nothingy when it came to the main plot, had a really random cousin incest thing and a really weird attitude towards drug addiction? finished the trilogy because theyre all really short and feel super incomplete alone, but man. what a disappointment
clockwork boys & the wonder engine by t kingfisher: these were really fun, you can definitely tell that theyre earlier books than the saint of steel series but still lots to enjoy. the end of wonder engine had me screeching
swordheart by t kingfisher: wasnt as immediately engaged with this one because theres no paladins..... but i listened to this audiobook on a long coach ride basically all in one go and it was extremely solid in a very familiar and comforting way.
guides for dating vampires 0.5, 1, 1.1, 1.2, by d.n bryn: predictable in a very soothing way, loved vincent as a character
the dawnhounds, sascha stronach: very discworldy, but if discworld was biopunk and way more specifically about autonomy. i was also hoping for more of a mystery or central plot from this one, it felt quite scattered, but the concepts were super cool.
atomic awakening by james mahaffey: read this for uni, and it SUCKED. i always forget that people think that nuclear weapons are cool and that the usa is good. why.
gathering moss: a natural and cultural history of mosses by robin wall kimmerer: this was really interesting, and robin wall kimmerer reads her own audiobooks and her reading is super relaxing to listen to as well
consort of fire by kit rocha: this was about dragons and magic and poly romance and stuff but i dont know, i didnt really like it. just didnt really ever grab me despite the subject theoretically being exactly my thing
dirty strays 1 & 2 by riley nash: okay i picked these up because the description starts like this "We’re lost boys, wild and forgotten. Born into a world of poverty and crime, my two best friends and I have nothing to rely on except each other. But I have a plan: if I can film viral BDSM porn" and it carries on but THAT WAS SO HILARIOUS TO MEEEE LIKE BRO REALLY WENT THERE INSTANTLY. DIDNT CONSIDER ANYTHING ELSE FIRST. but yes theyre EXTREMELY horny and also i really liked them especially the first one. a fucked up family of fucked up people, semi verbal mc, they get a dog. really endearing in a strange kind of way
how to do nothing by jenny odell: this was okay, nothing lifechanging and i'd read a lot of the books that are quoted already, so i kind of felt i already got the gist
#rowanposting#yes its june now. ive been busy........#so many books.....#reading summaries#long post

god also gotta love MMC connecting a post that doesnt even mention izzy to feeling the need to yell at me about izzy because for some reason literally everything revolves around him and i dont get it. like if im ever out here on tumblr getting hyper aggro with people over a fictional character and hopping on every post i can to cuss people out over when i could be playing with my grandkids or some shit literally take me out back and shoot me. like what a disproportionately bitter and vile bitch only capable of saying the same three things over again and then blocking people when it doesnt go her way. all while making it out to be the most serious of street fights or some shit like every other tumblr nerd with a superiority complex about being a tumblr veteran as if "you cant handle the streets of tumblr go back to twitter" is the most hardcore gangster shit she can say to the applause of white 20 yos and geeky poc who got bullied for talking too white at school and decide to project that onto the one website so startling caucasian that they eat it up. fucking stupid ass entire crew of "i learned sjw 101 through tumblr and twitter qrt's and now im going to poorly regurgitate any half remembered talking point i can think of because my fic may be bland, my art may be mid, and my personality untenable but thank fuck i can produce madlibbed discourse that falls apart if you blow too hard and substitute being an interesting person for that instead." like i feel like i'm going insane because i literally avoid talking to or about MMC because some primal part in the back of my brain keeps sounding off with "there's no need to yell at an older black woman esp in front of white kids just leave her be" like she's the bitchy neighbor complaining to my dad about how his kids are playing too loud in the backyard and you just have to remind yourself that some people prefer to stay miserable like their lives depend on it. angry at some white male character and apparently incapable of interacting with fandom unless its to complain when everybody else just wants to eat their food and have a good time. cant even discuss any aspect of race or antiracism in fandom without linking it back to izzy as if shes paying his bills or something. like what do you contribute other than annoying everybody else in fandom? are you capable of even holding a conversation with a fandom "friend" for more than 24 hours without circling back to shit talking characters? are you having fun? is this a good time for you? have you tried taking a walk or petting a dog recently instead of this?

✧・゚: *✧・゚:*(*❦ω❦)*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
It's crazy. Falling. You see? We don't say "rising into love". There is in it, the idea of the fall. And it goes back to extremely fundamental things. That there is always a curious tie at some point between the fall and the creation. Taking this ghastly risk is the condition of there being life. You see, for all life is an act of faith and an act of gamble...
Between Cordelia Goode's ears were pretty brown eyes and a mind full of thoughts. Brown eyes were never really your favourite until you saw them on her. You knew yourself that somehow, over the years you got to know Cordelia; working with her, befriending her, carrying her home from the bar one night when she got far too drunk, letting her cry into your shoulder when her job became too real and she could feel her mother's words hanging over her head.
When you started falling for the woman with those beautiful brown eyes.
Somehow, her eyes were now your favourite colour.
Not brown- brown wasn't simply the word for the colour. Cordelia's eyes were the colour of aged whiskey. Sometimes they were the only two safe shots of tequila that you could see. Sometimes they were a beautiful milk chocolate dotted with exposed honeycomb. Once when she had asked you to help her decorate the garden for the Summer Equinox- she had given Zoe enough money to take the girls on a field trip for the day so she could give the girls a little party. You stood watching her in her denim shorts and her white button up. When she had stepped back and put her arm around you to admire both of your handy work you could have sworn her eyes were glowing like fresh magma.
Her hand lay on your waist a split second too long.
You had fallen in love with the Supreme.
"Yo, bitch!" Madison Montgomery's usual entrance phrase disturbed you from your imagination. You raised your brow and smirked.
"Yes, Madison?"
The blonde took her sunglasses off her face and closed them with a slight snap. "The girls want to know if you wanna come to play Pysch! with us," she said. Her lips were curled in what could almost be described as a friendly smile. You were one of the few honoured to know that under Madison's bitchy white girl facade there was actually a very sweet someone lurking under there.
You thought for a moment and put your pen down. "I won't be long- I just have to log these last few names and I'll be there," you tell her. Madison rolled her eyes and waved her hand, the pen lifted itself and wrote the last thirteen names within seconds. "You're done. Let's go, Y/N."
Madison didn't even give you a minute to say anything before she walked out of the room. "Come on, bitch. Don't make me use my powers!" she called from the hallway, finally motivating you to move.
The girls sat in a circle in Zoe's bedroom. Lights off. Candles lit.
Zoe, Queenie, Mallory, and Coco were indulged in their phones for the game. Madison turned to you and held up her phone to show you the question. "What is Zoe's deepest, darkest secret?" she read. "You gotta answer it and the person with the most votes wins. It lasts for ten rounds and it can be fucking hilarious."
Zoe's face was red with laughter at the answers. "She's not actually a witch- that's not even funny," she gasped through cackles. She then sobered slightly. "She likes to watch Danny Devito movies while masturbating and screaming 'I am a dirty man'."
Madison was the only one who chortled at that.
You joined the game and got your best answers ready in your head. "If Madison got arrested tomorrow what would it be for?"
Madison rolled her eyes and muttered something about knowing exactly what everyone was about to answer. You smirked slightly, sensing her slight apprehension.
Prostitution.
Murder. Third-degree.
Fucking up the brakes on a bus full of frat boys.
Public Nudity.
"Gosh, you're so original," she muttered, glaring right at Zoe, who just shrugged.
"It's the rules of the game, bitch. Go all in, don't get offended," she replied.
The game pinged for the next question.
"What is on Y/N's mind right now?"
Coco gave a loud "Ha!" and typed quickly, along with the other girls who were all typing as quickly as possible to get their answers in first.
A quiet knock came from the other side of the door and Cordelia poked her head around. "Sorry to interrupt, girls. Y/N, could I borrow you for a moment?" she asked, voice sweet and angelic. You bounced up as soon as she finished the sentence and obliged straight away. You were met with a sweet smile.
Madison flicked her brows. "Speak of the devil," she muttered, winking at Delia's slightly confused face. As you left, your phone pinged to announce the results just before you left the game.
Cordelia 🥵🥵🥵
Delia. I ship it <3
Getting knuckle deep finger fucked by the HWIC
French fries
You quickly shut off your phone screen before Cordelia could see.
"What's the matter, Delia?" You asked, practically skipping alongside her. There was a vibrant air of satisfaction between you.
Cordelia shook her head, her blonde hair bobbing with her movements. “I just wanted to know if you’d like to go out.”
You felt your heart stop. “Go out?”
Cordelia looked hurt by the confusion on your face.
“Yes. Would you like to join me in the garden?”
“Oh,” you realised, slightly disappointed. “I would love to.”
---
"For the love of Hades. Right, I don’t mean to sound rude or anything because I have some understanding that lesbians are fucking useless because of the fear of appearing to be predatory because the media is an asshole,” Madison continued. “But I don’t really think any of us can eat at this table anymore without choking on the fucking sexual tension between the both of you.”
Cordelia looked shocked. “It’s not that-”
“I’m a fucking mindreader! You do get that I can fucking hear the things that you say in your head about what you want to do to Y/N? I’m one gutter minded bitch and not even I’m creative enough to come up with that shit while I’m eating my fucking apple turnover!”
You blushed hard and chuckled.
Madison’s neck snapped towards you. “Oh, and don’t getting me fucking started on you! Do you know how fucking unsanitary it would be to carry out your little fantasies of fucking Cordy on the kitchen counter? Not even for us but the amount of fucking crumbs that would work into your nooks and crannies would be like trying to spring clean Myrtle's fucking hair! "
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Cordelia chuckled nervously. Her face turning a shade of red. “I’m sure Y/N’s got plenty of better options.”
Madison dropped her face in her hands and rubbed her temples. “God, you bitches are going to put fucking years on my skin.”
“Oh, give me a break, Madison.”
Cordelia stumbled foward slightly, having been tripped up by some unseeable force and sending her tumbling into you. Her hands lay against your chest for that split second too long once more.
Your lips parted for a moment and your breath hitched as you both watched Madison smirk and leave the room. It felt like your heart was beating at a thousand miles an hour. You surroundings were unnoticable to you now; replaced by unidentifiable whirls of colour and light. Your hand rested flat on Cordelia’s cheek. It was different this time. Not the spark, that had been there every time you touched. It was the fact that you were both too slow to ignore the ignition that started in your chests.
You saw her eyebrows falter from their previously confident expression, like all of her preparation and barriers and walls had fallen down and she was too slow to replace them. Cordelia pursed her lips, presumably trying to figure out what she should say to you. Again, she was too slow as you inhaled sharply and thrust yourself forward to catch her lips.
Delia was quick to mould herself to the curves of your front, hands falling to the small of your back on a collision course as she backed you into the dining room table. You smoothed your hands over the contours of her jaw, her collar bones, breasts, hips like you were a master pianist playing a brilliant concerto. Her body was the only instrument you longed to play; her moans the only melody that you longed to draw from her.
As her lips glided across your own, everything came together like pieces into place. You thought back one of those late nights in the kitchen. The way Delia’s fingers had so enthusiastically laced through yours during the late night in the kitchen when you had both stayed up until the wee hours of the morning talking about life. How the witch had turned the radio on and taken your hand while you danced to some song by REO Speedwagon. Twirling you through the night. “Can’t fight this feeling” was the song. Ironic, now that you thought about it. It seemed as though fighting her feelings was what she had been doing the entire time.
She twirled you around in the light of the dim television and the refrigerator when the songs were upbeat, even going as far as dipping you and pulling you up again. Bare thighs against your own in her shorts and oversized shirt. When the songs that were played were slower, she was more gentle. Until eventually you swayed in a slow two-step, your head against her chest, and hers against yours. The air was thick with something pure. Something untouched.
You had no idea why you ever just thought this was something two best friends did. More so, you had no idea why you didn’t lean back and dip into her lips and allow your souls to dance the waltz that they were so clearly destined for.
Cordelia’s thumb and finger lay on either side of your jaw as she continued to kiss you as if her soul depended on it. Her fingers interlocked with yours against the table.
She broke away, tears had fallen down her cheeks and made your heart melt. “Oh-ho,” you chuckled, mouth agape at her sight. “Why the tears, my love?”
Cordelia laughed, wiping away her tears. “I’ve longed to do that for so long,” she replied. “So, so long.”
You chuckled at her sweetness and the display of pure love that you were so unaccustomed to.
“I fell in love with you, Y/N. I don’t think I will ever stop falling in love with you. You’ve created this storm of beautiful chaos in me,” she continued. “Do you remember that night where I was really sleepy, so you let me just stay in your room? How I had fallen asleep on top of you by accident and you wrapped your arms around me and hummed a lullaby?”
You nodded, remember the feeling of waking up with the Supreme in your arms.
“I was wide awake,” she told you. A delicate smile arose.
You chuckled into her touch.
“Oh, sweetheart,” you replied, drawing her closer, her blonde hair twirled in your fingers. “I know you were.”

Away. So, so far away.
<<Previous part Masterlist Next part>>
Word count: 2K
Warnings: bullet wounds, hospital, swearing.
3
Oh darling, please believe me
I’ll never do you no harm…
The music reverberated through the whole floor. You danced around, and Bucky was the only one that joined you, if not a little shyly. Tony sat on the couch flipping through some news and sighed as he asked you to change to a better music.
“Nothing is better than The Beatles, Stark”, you said in between laughs, and Bucky flipped you in the air. His strength almost matched Loki’s, and you weren’t afraid of him dropping you to the floor.
Believe me when I tell you,
I’ll never do you no harm.
“Uh, I beg to differ”, he raised an eyebrow, still with his eyes on his current research. “By the way, are you coming to the next mission?”.
“I’ll ask Loki. I told him he could join me”.
“Well?”, he inquired, pointing with his head at the door from your room. You didn’t know if you wanted to say it out loud. The common room had not only Tony, but also Bucky, Steve and Clint. You sighed. "He's sleeping".
"Liar. You wouldn't be here".
“Okay. He’s out now”.
“Where? It’s four in the morning”, he laughed, and then dropped his news to look at you with concern, realizing. “Oh”.
“No, it’s not… it’s not what you think. He goes on walks to keep his mind busy”, you lied.
“Sure. At four in the morning”.
Oh darling, if you leave me,
I’ll never make it alone.
“Yes, we don’t question his ways, okay? He’s been feeling bad”, you defended him, and turned the music higher. With a hand gesture, you invited Steve to dance with you. He chuckled and accepted it.
Truth was, you had no idea where Loki was now. He kissed you goodnight when he thought you were asleep, muttered something along the lines of I’m sorry, I’ll get this fixed, and left around midnight. He should have been in bed by now, and you couldn’t call him or check on him in any way. Not without compromising the secretism, anyway.
And you were upset. You were so, so upset, because you’ve had fights about this for the past week, and still he thought it best to just do as he pleased when you were supposedly asleep. You were so, so upset. But concerned at best, because he never told you what his plan was about. He had no regard for his safety. He could be getting injured, at best. He could be getting killed under the hands of the Mad Titan or whoever huge predecessor of Layfey that would be guarding the throne. He could be getting hurt and killed and in pain and he blocked you out so you could do nothing about it.
So you danced. You drank coffee to keep you awake until he came home, and moved your hips to the rhythm of the music. Trying to forget the matter for a while.
Believe me when I beg you,
Don’t ever leave me alone.
“Hey”, called Thor, walking in with the pillow marks on his face. “Turn down that thing, it’s too late”, he asked. “Oh, you’re here. Where is my brother? Sleeping?”.
“On a long and weird walk”, said Clint without looking away from Steve’s awful dance moves. He was getting ready to pull off his phone and become famous on tiktok. You spinned under Steve’s old-fashioned steps.
“Walk? At these hours?”, he laughed. “My brother doesn’t do that”.
“Yes, he does”, you said nonchalantly, trying to hide your unease. Maybe you should’ve stayed in your room. That way, your loneliness in the late night wouldn’t be too evident.
You had grabbed Loki by the wrist before he left. He knew he didn’t leave you sleeping—you asked him to stay. You told him there was nothing he could do about it anymore. He murmured he could and he would, and the mere thought of being able to fix it all kept him up at night anyway, so he might as well go and get it.
You told him if he loved you he would stay. He told you he was doing this because he loved you. He told you it was the —only— way to keep both of you safe and together. You thought he was wrong, and that thought remained there, eating your brains alive, while you tried to dance it out. A knot in your throat kept you from talking any further.
When you told me you didn't need me anymore,
Well you know I nearly broke down and cried.
When you told me you didn't need me anymore,
Well you know I nearly broke down and died.
“Where is Loki?”, asked Thor once again, coming out of his room when the sun had already setted widely on the sky. No rain, a clear day, perfect for flying. The mission would start in the next three hours, and you were still waiting.
“Look, I really need to get a confirmation on whether I’m having you on the mission or not”, said Tony, losing his patience. “He’ll come back at some point, but you don’t need to worry about him. He’s a God on Earth. What would happen? He’d get mugged and stab the damn robber?”, he joked, and you pretended to laugh.
“You’re right. I’m going, count me in”.
Where was he, now?
Something was for sure, he was away.
And a week had passed. A whole week with its seven days, and you've received no notice whatsoever of your lover.
Thor seemed to know, yet he couldn't bring himself to say anything. He said it wasn't his place. He said he didn't know what Loki was thinking about. He said he didn't want to misinterpret his messages. He said a lot of things and none of them were comforting. None of them fulfilled your need to know —where is he, is he well, is he traveling, is he locked up, is he dead, is he with someone else, is he ever coming back, is he even trying to communicate—what's going on?
In the quinjet, you looked down the window. Bucky and Thor were in front of you, and Tony by your side, explaining the steps of the next mission. You weren't listening much. Just nodded. You knew those things never went as planned —having plans would usually get worse outcomes, from your experience. Plans wouldn't work.
You had one small plan; climb a mountain. You were going to a marvelous place, and you always wanted to climb them. It was completely possible you could get a few hours off, if not half a day to go and get it. You'd maybe convince your teammates.
Whatever you could do to keep your mind away from Loki's suicidal mission, whatever that may be.
"Buckle up, fellas", said Tony, getting into his suit already. "There's fighting to get through right now. We'll have to do the brainy part after".
And just like that, Thor with Mjölnir in hand, Bucky ripping off his sleeve and you getting your boots adjusted, jumped off the quinjet and landed on soft grass.
There weren't many people you had to fight. They were just very strong. You held your grip to Tony's suit as he flew with you all around the forest.
The rest… you might know how it goes. As it always does. You’re too reckless—words from everyone on the team, all the time—and you jumped off too quickly to catch Bucky’s bullet.
“Are you OUT OF YOUR MIND?”, yelled Bucky as he approached you. He applied pressure on the bullet wound and you gasped for your dear air as you felt a little dizzier and dizzier.
“You were about to get shot!”, you justified.
“I’m a supersoldier, you fucking idiot”.
“Do I look like I make rational decisions on the run?”.
“Here, as you lay on the floor bleeding out from an unnecessary bullet wound that would’ve been a fucking scratch on me? Yeah, no shit, you make great decisions on the run”.
“I thought you were shy to talk”.
“No, I just keep my mouth shut because people aren’t so stupid for me to talk back to them, but you just…”.
“Agh!”, you contorted in pain and then James decided to stop bitching about how you saved him from the hit—when he so clearly wanted to get shot instead—why would he care so much? “Could you… take me to the quinjet? There’s gotta be like a first aid kit in there or something”.
“What? You gonna put a bandaid over the bullet and call it a day? Come on, I’m taking you to the medbay”.
“No way, Buck. They’ll get me to a hospital for the day and won’t let me participate on the mission. Come on, just patch me up a little and don’t say anything”.
James rolled his eyes and scoffed.
“No”.
He took you to the medbay, and, as you predicted, you spent the night in the hospital. The whole night, and woke up the next morning in that same goddamn white bed with white sheets, surrounded by white walls and white everything. Except a dusted friend, who had been holding your hand the whole time.
Bucky, scratched from head to toe and very clearly lacking a shower and a good night of sleep, didn’t let go of your hand even when you woke up. And damn you who were only thinking about how that should be Loki by your side.
“Hey, morning sleepy head”.
“What are you doing here? You should be on the mission”, you reproached him with a smile. “Not here, being a good friend and all”.
“I wanted a day off work”.
You laughed. He seemed too tired to even move.
“Thanks”, you sighed, and looking out of the window, heard the door opening and Tony Stark walking in. “Oh, sorry boss”.
“Call me boss again and you’re fired”, he said, sitting on the foot of your bed. “You reckless, irresponsible idiot. You should be fired for this alone. You’re a danger to the team and especially to yourself”.
“Come on. I defended a member of the team”.
“You jumped in front of a supersoldier about to get a fucking mosquito bite out of a bullet, that's what you fucking did”.
“The spirit is what counts, after all?”, you tried, and he laughed shortly, only to come back with a meaner expression.
“Hell no”.
“At least I can go back to work today, right?”, you tried. Tony just laughed—that bastard. Fucking asshole. And where was Thor? Was he with his brother? No that he’d say anything.
Wow. Painkillers made you bitchy.
“We’re both taking the day to get you recovered, and Stark and Thor will handle the mission. Tomorrow you get back if you’re well rested and in enough shape, alright?”, explained Bucky with a softness that almost made you vomit. He was sugarcoating it—surrounding it with nice-sounding words and a soft-spoken voice.
“No way I came all the way here to not do shit and let you do all of the things I’m supposed to do”.
“We could climb that mountain you wanted to”, he tried, and then you were out of words. You thought about it for a few seconds.
“Okay”.
“Are you crazy? They’s got stitches. They can’t make efforts. Bed rest”, fought Tony. Bucky winked at you.
“That’s why I’m going with them. I’m gonna make sure they don’t get any worse, alright?”.
“Make sure they gets better”.
“Consider it done, chief”.

How the fuck is the dress so ugly? WHY IS THAT WHAT THEY WANT? WHO WEARS PINK RUCHED SATIN WITH BLUE FLOWERS
I mean, other than, like, me @6 years old. But really, no one should be wearing the clothes I wore at 6 years old.
Also it’s just.. the worst length. Like if it was a long dress it might be better.
Nate the pastor episode 1
God that future son in law seems like a dream guy I love him
Maria Moscone deserves better than her scumbag parents let’s be real
SOPHIE TAKING THINGS TOO PERSONALLY AND GETTING THE WAY OF THE JOB
THIS!!! THIS IS WHY THE NETWORK ORDER MAKES NO SENSE!!! THIS HERE’S AN AIMEE REFERENCE BUT IF THEY’D ALREADY DONE THE TWO HORSE JOB, HARDISON WOULD’VE KNOWN ABOUT HER AND NOT ASKED
“What did you do?” “Me? I liberated CROATIA!” *angry apple bite* i CAN’T I LOVE HIM
DO PEOPLE NOT KNOW PARKER ISN’T A BRIDESMAID? HOW IS THAT DRESS FOOLING ANYONE
Hardison in love with Parker is so pure
… Okay but shouldn’t maria and blonde n’ bitchy know that Parker isn’t a bridesmaid? Wouldn’t the other bridesmaids know? Why does no one in the wedding party question ANYTHING?
HARDISON’S SCARF THOUGH
WHY IS HER MOTHER WEARING WHITE?? WHO WEARS WHITE TO A WEDDING WTF
MARIA MOSCONE DESERVES BETTER
SOPHIE FUCK OFF!! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS RIGHT NOW?? THIS ISN’T IMPORTANT SOPHIE!! SOPHIE STOP IT!! SOPHIE SHUT UP!
M A R I A M O S C O N E D E S E R V E S B E T T E R
The Butcher of Kiev is the best subplot of this episode but HOW THE FUCK DID THEY ALL KNOW HE AND ELIOT HAD A PAST
Sophie is so fucking annoying in this episode I hate her right now
THESE PEACHES AREN’T GONNA POACH THEMSELVES PARKER
OH MY GOD NATE SHUT UP
NATE SHUT UP
NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR THIS NATE
SHUT THE FUCK UP NATE
THIS ISN’T ABOUT YOU NATE
“In my day, no one would do business at their daughter’s wedding” WELL THEN DON’T DO BUSINESS
Parker’s face smushed against the glass is great
Ahh yes, you don’t get the money so you SHOOT THE BRIDE. Because THAT’s not gonna cause a scene and get you arrested.
OK be honest is there anyone who was surprised by the wife being responsible? Bc I’m not
Eliot’s face is like “TFW the guy whose face you burned shows up at a wedding you’re supposed to be pretending to but actually are catering with a cleaver and backup and the overwhelming urge to kill you”
I know that’s super specific but that’s what it is
Parker’s really good at playing drunk
But also, why did they not question what she was doing behind the curtain
Like she just happened to appear after they were finished talking about VERY ILLEGAL THINGS and they aren’t at all suspicious?
Also, Parker using Hardison as a cover is just… I love it.
You’re laughing. Eliot brought a whisk to a knife fight and you’re laughing.
The saddest part is Eliot has any sort of cooking implement. You should be terrified right now
Okay so let me get this straight. A guy is StrANGLING you, you get your hands on a rolling pin, and your instinct isn’t, “hey, I can use this rolling pin to clobber him over the head,” the instinct is “Let me use this rolling pin to get my hands on the appetizers?” Like, yes, lemon juice, but also ROLLING PINS ARE HEAVY AND YOU COULD AT LEAST KNOCK THE GUY OUT
But no, let me shove fucking MUSHROOMS in his eyes because otherwise how else would we get the symmetry of the butcher yelling “IT BUUUURRRNNNNSS” both times he fights Eliot
And then he uses the fucking serving tray to bonk him on the head INSTEAD OF THE DUCKING ROLLING PIN
LIKE SERIOUSLY HAVE YOU EVER USED A ROLLING PIN AS A WEAPON
I’M NOT SAYING I HAVE BUT OUCH
Like, just… If I had a choice between being hit over the head with a thin sheet of metal or a log of wood with metal inside it, I’d pick the sheet, because at least that one has some give.
“It’s the lemon juice” How does Eliot make that sound badass
“You just kill a guy with an appetizer?” How the FUCK WOULD YOU KNOW THAT??
WHY DOES NO ONE ASSUME A ROLLING PIN WOULD BE AN OKAY WEAPON
Or like LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE IN THAT KITCHEN. THERE ARE CAST IRON PANS IN THAT KITCHEN. Or just liek… regular pans. HAVE YOU EVER DROPPED A NONSTICK PAN ON YOUR FOOT? IT FUCKING HURTS?? WHY IS THE APPETIZER YOUR FIRST INSTINCT NATE
Also, he’s clearly not dead. What the fuck
“I don’t know, maybe” I KNOW AND tHE ANSWER IS NO YOU OBVIOUSLY DIDN”T
...who honeymoons in Kansas? Is that a thing?
They are a very cute couple i’ve gotta be honest
“Exactly what denomination are you reverend?” He isn’t
“You’re not Mary Poppins, youre a bitch” Okay pot. Okay.
LITERALLY THAT FUCKING HANDBAG WOULD AHVE MADE A BETTER WEAPON THAN THE MUSHROOMS
How does Hardison remember all those numbers? He didn’t even hear a bunch of them, but he takes the book out so slowly? DOES HARDISON HAVE AN EIDETIC MEMORY? WHY IS THAT NOT A PLOT POINT MORE OFTEN
Like I’m just saying, someone tries to tell me their phone number more than 3-4 numbers at a time and I get confused. But hardison just… remembers
What happened to the cash? The daughter gets the fucking wedding present she DESERVES for putting up with her awful parents that’s what
Hardison appreciating Eliot’s cooking is EVERYTHING
“I left him five dollars for socks” Well everyone needs socks.
Okay wait I just had a thought
If Nate isn’t an actual Reverend, is that marriage even legal? Does Nate just happen to also be a legally ordained minister? Did they have to get him an online ordainment? WhY did we not see that scene? WHAT IF HE’S NOT AND THEY AREN’T ACTUALLY MARRIED
And today on “I clearly think far too much about these things”
PARKER WIth KIDS IS EVERYTHING
Eliot cooking for his family I love it
ELIOT IN A TANK TOP I LOVE IT
Was Eliot’s arms the most important part of this scene? Probably not
Is it the only thing I care about? ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY
I”M A SIMPLE GIRL AND HE HAS VERY NICE ARMS OKAY
Final thoughts: 9/10. I love this episode so much guys. Points off because really who the fuck wears white to a wedding. I know that’s the point but its very off putting. Also for the bridesmaid dresses because they were ugly as sin. Actual point off for the wife secretly being awful. Very predictable, ew. Extra points for Chef!Eliot. Extra points for Eliot’s arms. Points off for Nate and Sophie being completely insufferable. Extra points for Parker being great in this episode. Points off for the FUCKING ROLLING PIN YES I’M STILL ANGRY DONT @ ME. Extra points for Eliot killing a man with an appetizer because it’s still funny. Extra points for no IYS or Sam references THANK THE FUCKING LORD. Or, at least, if there was, i didn’t notice, meaning it wasn’t egregious so whatever. So yeah, anyway I really fucking love this episode.
IYS Count: 2/3
Sam Count: 2/3 AND WE ARE ALL BETTER OFF FOR IT

So did you notice how every single song in JATP is dedicated to different character? I'm going to skip all the Dirty Candy cos obviously, and same goes to Caleb's HGC numbers. Bit for the rest:
Now or Never - this is the ultimate and only Sunset Curve song. It's THEM. But also have you read the lyrics?
"Clocks move forward but we don't get older, no" and "When all the days felt black and white those were the best shades of my life" it can be read two way. It's both about 1995 and 2020 and their life and afterlife. It's almost prophetic but you don't know it unless you keep watching the show. Also "we're the revolution that's been singing in the rain" watch out for the rain but cos it's echoed in another song.
Wake Up - so at first this seems to be Julie's song but hear me out. It's not. It was written by Rose, Julie's mom. The lyrics: "And you use your pain, cause it makes you you though I wish I could hold you through it. I know it's not the same you got living to do and I just want you to do it". Rose knew she was going to die and she wanted Julie to keep living. To keep playing music. It's her guidance from beyond the grave. It's precisely why this is the first song Julie sings in a YEAR. Because it's the LAST message her mom left for her. It's Rose's song for Julie.
Bright - this is Alex's song and you can fight me on it. Mind it was written back in the 90s - Luke gives it to Julie because it was one of the songs that Bobby hasn't stolen which means that they either played it before, live when they were alive (which seems sort of unlikely because it has more of a pop sound to it than say Now or Never) or because it was never played to the public before. Because it was private. Now again it wasn't something that was kept a secret either because the band joined Julie on stage and executed the song perfectly and they haven't reversed it before, couldn't have because at this point the boys didn't know they could be seen when playing. They sort of joined last minute. They were standing by and watching Julie to the almost last second. And now the lyrics:
"Sometimes I think I'm falling down I wanna cry, I'm crying out for one more try to feel alive. And when I'm lost and alone I know that I can make it home fight through the dark and find the spark" and "In times like that I doubted myself I felt like I needed some help stuck in my head with nothing left. I feel something around me now so unclear, lifting me out I found the ground I'm marching on" this is Alex, anxious, worrisome Alex who came out to his parents who weren't accepting. And his band was there for him. "I can make it home", home being the garage, his band, his friends. They helped him find his 'ground that he's marching on'. Also, I ain't saying that Alex and Luke dated back in the 90s but they definately dated. Just look at this:
"Life is a risk, but we can take it close my eyes and jump. Together, I think that we can make it, c'mon let's run" and "And rise through the night, you and I, we will fight to shine together, bright forever" WE WILL FIGHT TO SHINE TOGETHER, BRIGHT FOREVER. Shine as in unapologetly being themselves. As being happy and accepted and themselves.
Sure when Julie sings it it's about her incredible talent and trying to get back into the music program but again this song was written back in the 90s. It's Alex's song.
The Band is Back - Reggie's Jam. This is pretty self explanatory and the song might be simplistic and upbeat and very beach, summer like but is not without dept. The boys don't know where they stand with the band. They know they are dead and can be heard when singing and seen when playing with Julie but they are still dead. Now remember this song plays right after the boys leave the studio when Ray talks about his happy times with a wife that died. This hits close to home because well they are also dead. But also the way Ray talks about Rose. So much love and admiration. And now Reggie's parents who were "one fight away from divorce". And on top of that his house is gone so there is no way of him (at this point at least and without Julie's help) to find his family or even to learn if they are alive. This song, Luke says that he knows how to cheer Reggie up. But notice this. It's not something that Luke or Alex sing. No. Reggie is. I'm not going to mention that it is kind of weird that they had a song in the ready that's called "the band is back" as if they had a fallout before or something like that. But this aside, this is a song to remind Reggie that they are still friends and that they are family. The only family they are going to need. And they are going to stick together, life or afterlife.
"Can you, can you hear me?" "Loud and clear!" Is such a simple thing that is used on so many concerts to get the audience's attention. But here is different. Becaus eits reaffirming that Reggie is valid. That his voice is being heard and that he's safe. And by having Reggie sing the song - it's like saying "hey Reg we know this is terrible and it sucks but if you'd like we'll be your family and will me always stick around". By making REGGIE sing it, by making him announce that the back is back together is like giving him a choice. A choice to have Luke and Alex as his family. If Luke sang it it was as if he said: "we're your family" but the way it is it's more like a question: "we will be your family if you'll have us" and of course Reggie would that's why the band is back.
Flying Solo - Flynn's song. One of my personal favourites actually. Nothing much to add really. The lyrics are from Julie's dream box because the boys were looking for the kitchen again and are very personal. Flynn is a constant in Julie's life and by having her sing a song about her best friend, SING (a big change that has happened recently in Julie's life) is letting her in once again, having her in her life when the change happens. Letting her on the secret about the ghost band. And it's also an apology and giving her thanks. Because Julie is so thankful to have Flynn there. "My life would be real zero, flying solo without you"
And one more thing, notice how the boys sing nothing but chorus. On every other song the boys get a line or two to sing on their own, except Luke who is not ready to give up his front man position (which is quite fair since he writes the songs too). This song is entirely BY Julie and sang by Julie but is still a Flynn's song.
Finally Free - this is JULIE'S song. This is her first song playing PUBLIC (yes I know it was Bright but it was different. There was no band then yet.) It's her metamorphosis. The song reflects the change in Julie every time she sings:
"I'm awakened, no more faking so we push all our fears away. Don't know if I'll make it cause I'm failing under, close my eyes, and feel my chest beating like thunder. I wanna fly. Come alive. Watch me shine. " it starts off with noting Julie's life without music and then its restoration of it back in her life. Here is this word again, SHINE. It refers to the same thing just different situation. Sine as being themselves. Being true to themselves and singing their heart out.
"Hands up if you believe, been so long, and now I'm finally free. We're all bright now. What a sight now. Coming out like we're fireworks. Marching on proud. Turn it up loud cause now we know what we're worth" Now this can be applied to the entire band. They are visible again, they can be heard and seen. They are feeling as if they are alive again. But more importantly- remember how Julie couldn't sing in her class? How she choked back tears as she run away and Carrie's bitchy comment (it's not that I hate her but y'know if they used to be friends she must have known that Rose died so low blow). "COS NOW WE KNOW WHAT WE'RE WORHT" She proved to everyone that she can sing. She proved to her friends and family that she is getting better with her mother passing. And most of all that she feels closer to her when she sings. She is free. Free of pretending to be fine so her dad wouldn't worry. Free of bottling up all the fear of singing before Flynn and the inevitable disappointment because her friend knew Julie can sing but didn't to say with her in the music program. She is done proving things to people. She is shining bright and she is free.
Edge of Great - ultimate Juke song or a BAND song. Now let me explain, I love the ship I really do but-there is a but, however, I'm not going to go in about my slight concerns regarding Juke as it is canon so let me just jump into the analysis.
Of course it can be read as a Juke song but also as an Julie and Luke's song separately. "Running from the past. Tripping on the now. What is lost can be found, its obvious. And like a rubber ball we come bouncing back. We've all got a second act inside of us" essentially it's about how they all had their past, their demons to battle but they come together united in music. "This is an interesting little relationship you and I have" Luke said. And he was right. Because their relationship is not physical. Its a bond forged by similar life experience and the pain they draw from joined in music.
Now this bit, this 100% Juke right there: "I believe that were just one dream away from who we're meant to be. That were standing on the edge of- something big, something crazy our best days are yet unknown. That this moment is ours to own cause were standing on the edge of great" this gives me some serious throwback vibes to HSM. Also note how this is possibly the only song where Reggie and Luke don't share the mike. They stand next to each other but just watch Julie instead. Also, I think mentioned in other lengthy post about how Reggie and Alex intentionally poofed out giving Luke and Julie that last harmony moment by the piano.
Now this bit: "We all make mistakes but they're just stepping stones. To take us where we wanna go it's never straight, no. Sometimes we gotta lean. Lean on someone else to get a little help until we find our way." Now listen I mentioned the band. See I know this is the almost acoustic chilling chemistry packed moment when Luke and Julie sing. It's obvious they mean so much to each other. By the lyrics itself. It applies to the entire band. They were there to pick each other up and to provide a shoulder to rest their head on.
But as I said untimalte Juke song.
Unsaid Emily - now this, this is LUKE'S song. Obviously. But it's not only because it's dedicated to his mother. It's like Wake Up. It's the second song that is sang acoustically but just one person throughout. And it gives up such a great insight into Luke as a character.
"First things first, we start the scene from reverse, all of the lines rehearsed" THIS is how much his family means to him. He was going over this moment over and over and over in his head. Thinking what he would say. We saw in the show that he approached his house few times checking on his parents. Possibly hoping to come back but never doing it.
"I should have turned around but I had too much pride" he KNEW his parents were only looking out for him. But he was Luke. His music was EVERYTHING to him. Luke has a very single way of thinking of things. He didn't care, doesn't mean he didn't know, how hard it would be to make it. All that mattered it was his music. And it must have hurt. Because he says that his parents regretted buying him his first guitar. It's obvious that he was close with his parents with his mom so they must have not completely condone him being in the band. They just wanted him to have an option if the band won't work out. But Luke didn't see it like that. Because every time his parents tried to convince him to think about it for a moment to think about his future they were looking out for him but to him it felt like betrayal. Because to Luke it sounded like they had no faith in him, on his talent in his band and their chance or making it big. And it hurts SO FUCKING MUCH BECAUSE HE KNOWS IT. He knows it but as he sings he was too prideful to admit it. To come back.
"No times for goodbyes. Didn't get to applogise" and " conversations in my head and that's just where they're gonna stay forever" it's goddamn HEARTBREAKING because this song was written when he was still alive. He still stalked his house and his parents but THIS indicate that he thought things were beyond repair. Like he wanted to come back and apologise but thought it was too late. Like he would never get a chance to say he was sorry and ultimately he never did. Not until Julie.
"If I could take us back, if I could just do that. And write in every empty space the words I love you in replace and everytime would not erase me if you could only know I never let you go and the words I most regret and the ones I never meant to leave" everything he said was in the heat of the moment. He was hurt. But god, at this point I'm crying don't mind me, he thinks that he apologise would mean nothing. He says that if he could replace EVERY SINGLE WORD with I Love You he would but he think it would be erased. It would never be received. Thay it would dissapear. And ultimately it was. Because he died. He died and never got to say how sorry he was.
This song shows us the other side of Luke. Not only the side that only the band has seen before because I think that noone really saw Luke break down like thay when he was singing Unsaid Emily. He was bottling all of it inside and wouldn't let his friends to help him out. Because I refuse to believe that the boys wouldn't try to comfort him knowing that he was hunting around his parents both when he was alive and after.
And this song makes me ugly sob in every form, written, sang, seen in the show so thanks Kenny for it.
Stand Tall - this is the JULIE AND THE PHANTOMS song. The first one of many. And it's almost as heartbreaking as Unsaid Emily. First of all let's lay out the situation. Julie decides to sing ALONE and UNCERTAIN whether the boys would show up or not. Even if she still believes thay they are still there lingering, fighting to play the Orpheum with her and complete their unfinished business she would still lose them. When they cross over they are gone. And if they don't they will cease the exist in the afterlife. So no matter what Julie does she says goodbye to her family. And she STILL DECIDES TO SING.
"Whatever happens even if I'm the last standing I'ma stand tall." THIS FUCKING MOMENT. This is when the boys are supposed to come in. BUT THEY DON'T. They are still trapped in the HGC so JULIE LITERALLY IS THE LAST ONE STANDING. Because she thinks it's too late. She thinks they boys are dead.
I shit you not I scream everytime the boys appear and Luke flickering gives me a heart attach every single time but it's so powerful in terms of showing how much they mean for each other. When Alex and Reggie break free they are so happy to see Julie but when Luke can't get there quite yet the tension is palpable and I will never forgive Charlie for being the little shit when Luke finally appears exactly on his cue with a shit eating grin like he didn't almost die.
"Right now, I'm loving every minute. Hands down, can't let myself forget it, no cause everything is rushing in fast. Keep holding on never look back. And it's one, two, three, four times that I'll try for one more night. Light a fire in my eyes." This is so bittersweet because she is playing with the band. THEY MADE IT! But also she knows it's the last performance. And it's so powerful because she knows it and she will still keep trying. Keep playing music. Keep creating.
This is the ULTIMATE JULIE AND THE PHANTOMS, BAND UNITED AND TOGETHER SONG
But I want to note the literal chills I get everytime Alex and Reggie get their separate "whatever happens even if I'm the last standing I'ma stand tall" because it speaks VOLUMES. For Alex standing tall is being who he is. Unashamed and happy and loved. For Reggie is being with his family. Doing everything for his found family.
This is incredible performance and on top of that the boys disappear barely finishing their bow. If you listen closely. The second Julie stops singing all the music dies down except for the last line guitar strum, Luke's guitar strum and everything is quiet. You can hear Julie's voice, alone, still echo but that's it. The boys are gone.
+1
House is Where my Horse Is - ok, I know it was a joke cos they are in the rock back and this is country song. But you ever listened to a country music? And I'm not talking about modern stuff but a good old fashioned country ballad. I had a moment of little musical crisis in my life and listened to some songs and honestly they are so bittersweet and full of longing and melancholy. 90% of them are about loss, whether that be of a parent (almost always father and almost always cancer) or love and hardships of life and struggle. And I think it's really interesting to give Reggie, a person who is nothing but optimistic and cheerful this characteristic. Because if anything it only underlines what we have seen before that he is not the sharpest tool in the shed but he's smart. He sees things, and he might get lost in the conversation but he sees everything else. And it's not the fist country song he has written either. Luke says "stop putting your country songs in my journal". It's an occurring thing. I just think it sheds a light a bit on Reggie's character as someone else than the goofball.

More Than Meets the Eye || Vic & Metzli
TIMING: Early August
PARTIES: @natusvincere @deathisanartmetzli
SUMMARY: Vic runs into Metzli and gets a lot more than just unwanted flirtation.
CONTAINS: Gore
As the final remnants of the sun dissipated, Metzli let out a soft sigh. It was a long day, a little too long for their liking, but it was finally over. Giving the place a final look, checking off each box on their nightly routine list, they heard a faint crack. Curiously, the crack seemed to echo. The sound of rock breaking apart likewise broke their concentration.
Following the sound, it led to the sculpture section of the gallery. Nothing seemed out of place in the slightest. Metzli walked through to make double sure, and when they found nothing, they headed back towards the front to grab their things.
Metzli was quick to swing the strap of their bag and engage their security system, doing it twice out of cautiousness. Their footsteps clacked against the tile floor, coming to a stop as they exited. The key slid in and an audible click sounded as the door locked. Pocketing their keys, their eyes caught sight of a rather beautiful woman. They smiled and thought maybe they could get lucky today. “Good evening, miss. How do you do? Lovely evening, is it not?”
The definitive worst thing about being a vampire (besides that annoying eternal life thing), was being forced to avoid the sun and it’s beauty at all costs. Even in Vic’s worst days as a human, the sun had a way of adding both a literal and figurative brightness to her day, because even in the darkest of times, it always returned. Now, without it, darkness loomed. The quacks of the 21st century would say something about vitamin D deficiency.
The twilight of the late evening gave at least some sort of loophole from this problem, and it was when she found herself venturing out most when she wasn’t working. The plus side, too, was that most people were too wrapped up in trying to get home to their families to even think about bothering her. But fuck all, apparently she wouldn’t be so lucky tonight.
Vic usually lingered in her walks by art galleries, enjoying careful peaks inside if they were already closed for the night. She had been planning on doing just that, too, until a person locking the door all but accosted her. Her face instinctively formed into a scowl, automatically on the defence. “I’m not your miss. I am a grown woman”, she said. At their second question, she looked the person up and down, a firm scowl still set, though morphing into one a bit more judgemental. “Well, it was a good evening. Do you need something, or can I continue on my walk?”
“My, my. You really know how to make a gentlethem swoon,” Metzli retorted with a chuckle. It wasn’t often that someone met them with such disgust within the first second. It usually took about ten, so this was a remarkable record. “I never claimed you as mine, but maybe just for the night you can be,” They flirted, horribly so. The fact that Vic had no interest only made them want to bother her more.
Metzli faced Vic fully now, hearing no heartbeat and gathering a familiar scent in their nose. They leaned onto the door and crossed their arms casually to take in Vic’s unrelenting visage. The sight only made them smile wider, revealing perfect white teeth. “Do you treat everyone with such charm, or is it only special people like me?” This was no longer about the art of flirting, but the art of annoying.
Just as Metzli opened their mouth to continue, another echoing and rocky crack resonated in their ears. This interruption made their head snap towards the glass doors, to peer inside. “Did you hear that?” Everything, the annoying and flirting, was out the window now. Something felt off. Something felt…sinister.
Vic stared stone faced at the person in front of her, blinking twice as she tried to decide exactly what about their interaction was so swoon-worthy. She let out a huff, her stone face somehow becoming even more stern. “I don’t belong to anyone, blobfish. Especially not dense, odd-looking people like yourself.” The lack of a heartbeat didn’t help either, though the fact that she didn’t think to automatically call a hunter on this person made her gut flutter uncomfortably. Especially after hearing barely 3 sentences from them, it was already clear that they were relentlessly annoying. Turning in a potential vampire should have been easy, but especially when they were as antagonistic as this person was.
“Can I tell you a secret?”, she asked, slapping on her famous fake charm for only a moment before turning it off in an instant. “There is nothing special about you. Never was, never will be. When I leave here, I will never think about you again, even though you’ll spend the rest of the month at least thinking about me. Now I’m only going to say this once, so make sure you turn on your listening ears. Back. The fuck. Off.”
Just as she spoke the last of her threat, a loud, earthy rumble could be heard inside the gallery. She turned to it, her eyebrows furrowed in investigation. “Of course I heard it, stupid. Did you accidentally leave someone in there with the merchandise?” The sound rumbled closer rather quickly, and she forced herself to look back at the person in front of her. “Don’t you work here?! Shouldn’t you know what’s going on in your own place of employment?!”
Without a shadow of a doubt, Metzli knew they poked the bear thoroughly. Only, this was definitely a vampire bear with a vengeance against her own kind. Or maybe against amazing people flirting with her. They didn’t know, but they certainly knew she was way off base with the blob fish comment. Whoa there. Blob fish? Fuck that. I’m attractive and you’re way too hot headed to acknowledge such decadence.” There was no malice in their tone, only a light joking one.
“Furthermore, while you have every right to turn down my advances, I don’t think I ever gave you a reason to be so…for the lack of a better term, bitchy towards me.” Metzli was mocking Vic, and it was obvious with the kind of voice they used. Layers upon layers of annoyance and sarcasm, molded together to serve in their words. Their toothy grin remained plastered on their face as they retrieved the keys from their pocket.
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, gorgeous, I gotta ch—“ Something crashed into the door, breaking the glass and frame completely before Metzli could even put the key in the lock. “Fuck!” Glass sprayed everywhere as the two vampires were knocked to the ground by an unknown creature. It took a few moments, but Metzli managed to follow the trail of broken stone. Nothing but their eyes moved until they locked onto a grotesque and slobber-ridden chupacabra. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”
“Hm, you seem really eager to prove how attractive you are. Am I sensing some deep-seated insecurity here?” Vic blinked in surprise when she was called bitchy, tilting her head in offense. “Ooh, I can see why you approach strangers on the street instead of using acceptable ways to find someone to validate you as a person with fake praise and sexual favors. Your lack of tact explains a lot. Having a hard time finding a first date, Honey? Try not insulting people you’re trying to pick up.” She wanted nothing more than to slap the grin off their face, but her words had the ability to cut deeper than any physical injury could muster.
She was about to bite again at the pet name, seriously second guessing her decision not to figure out for sure if this person was a vampire like she thought, when she was thrown to the ground unexpectedly, glass shattering all around her. Her eyes landed on a slimy, thin, reptilian creature, and she looked at Metzli with disgust. “What the hell is that?!”
She stood up quickly, dusting herself off and not bothering to help her companion stand up. Was the gallery doubling as some weird, supernatural breeding ground? She didn’t have time to ask, because the creature was seemingly bounding toward them without hesitation, fast and slobbery and with nearly nothing stopping it.
Gathering their wits about them, Metzli dove towards the chupacabra, not hesitating to halt its path towards Vic. Though most people would mistake this as a heroic act, it was more showboating than anything. “It’s a fucking chupacabra, numbnuts!” They barked out the statement, struggling to hold the creature still. Thanks to living over a century, their strength was more than quintupled now, but even that wasn’t a total advantage here.
Metzli huffed as they threw the chupacabra to the side, hoisting it several feet away. “That was a sculpture before it was this. Someone must’ve donated it as a threat or because they’re stupid.” They thought out loud as they moved over to Vic. Survival was crucial here, and so was keeping a low profile. God knows what this would do to the gallery’s reputation. And a woman dying in front of it too? No, that wasn’t going to happen. Not on their watch.
The creature growled and shuffled around, trying to refocus and find its prey. With widened eyes, Metzli watched as the beast loomed closer, baring its teeth in a threatening show of dominance. They stepped back slowly, trying not to make any loud noises. The time to get out of dodge was now, and they knew they’d have to bring the aggressive woman with them if they wanted to protect their gallery’s image. Before bolting for a dark area nearby, they reached for Vic’s hand, and uttered a single word, “Run.”
It was highly offensive to be thrown to the ground and then be called a name within mere seconds. Vic shot Metzli a look, one that was sure to let them know how incredibly displeased she was, before her eyes found their way back to the creature, trying to study it. She certainly had never heard of a kookaburra in White Crest, but stranger things had happened. “That’s not a bird, you imbecile. It’s a lizard!”
With the creature momentarily disabled, Vic took the opportunity to stand up, backing behind the person she had determined was responsible for this whole mess, Metzli. “You and your staff didn’t think of double checking the matter before you allowed the statue in your facility?” she asked incredulously, disgusted by the clear lack of customer service going on here.
At Metzli’s command, Vic took off immediately, pulling the other person with her and not taking a second to look back to see if they were being followed. Even if Metzli had clearly gotten the name of this thing wrong, they seemed to have at least some knowledge of what it might be. “What the fuck does it want?”, she asked as they ran, no more breathless than she’d been when they were standing still. “How do we fucking get rid of it?”
Metzli practically rolled their eyes all the way back as Vic ridiculed them and their staff. “I told you, it was a statue! A full blown, marble statue! No movement, and no charms indicated a live creature resided in it!” Their words jumped about as they ran, too frantic to keep it even. “In here!” Vic was pulled into a dark alley, a little roughly, but she was put behind them. Being much taller than her, they covered her completely.
“Chupacabras don’t normally go after anything but goats, I thought. But maybe it’s mad.” Metzli whispered, taking slow and controlled steps back, leading the two further into the alley. “If we stay put, it’ll go away and bother less important people. Like humans.” A quiet laugh escaped their lips and they grabbed a metal pipe, just in case. Vic seemed like she could beat the shit out of something, but Metzli couldn’t rely on pure assumption right now.
“Can you do anything other than be an ass? You look strong. Super strength or are you just one of the useless undead people with toned bodies for show?” Even now, Metzli just had to push some buttons.
“A statue in White Crest”, Vic shot back incredulously. “It’s entirely irresponsible to assume that anything brought to your facility is just going to be normal. Wouldn’t it make sense to hire some sort of...supernatural curator or something?” Normally, she wasn’t so forward when it came to issues of the supernatural. She wasn’t one of the idiots who flaunted her knowledge around the town as if they were speaking about the sales at the grocery store instead of something as life or death as supernatural creatures. But Metzli clearly knew about the subject, so much so that they might be the only person helpful enough to help her survive whatever situation they had gotten themselves into. She nearly let out a shriek as she was pulled, and her eyebrows pressed together at how close their bodies were pressed together.
She looked up at her companion, a huff leaving her lips before she spoke. “Mad like angry, or mad like losing its mind?,” she asked, chancing a peak toward the creature. She scoffed, pushing Metzli away from her at their idea. “What kind of immoral slob do you think I am?,” she demanded, clearly offended. “First of all, who said anything about being undead?”. Even with an admission she knew of the supernatural, and this person’s apparent knowledge of her lack of heartbeat, a stranger would never get the privilege of hearing about her status as a vampire. “Second- we cannot just let this thing off to destroy people’s lives. We have a responsibility to stop it before anyone gets hurt, you depraved ingrate!”
She swallowed, frustrated, and looked between Metzli and the creature once more. “I’m a rather adept boxer”, she said, clenching her fists as she spoke. “But I’m not confident that thing won’t turn itself back to stone once I try to take a swing- is that something it would do?” Her eyes settled on Metzli, who she just decided she hated asking for help. “What about you? Are you good for anything other than being annoying and irresponsible?”
Boy oh boy was Vic getting on Metzli’s nerves. She was so hot-headed that she couldn’t even give a semblance of grace. “Listen, I’m trying to help you, despite how fucking disrespectful you’ve been. I’m new to this fucking place, but you’re too fucking busy to even give me a chance. A single. Fucking. Chance.” A low, guttural growl tickled through their throat as they glared at Vic. She had finally gotten on their bad side, it didn’t matter how hard they tried to push through the anger, they needed a minute.
Forcing a breath through their teeth, they squeezed the pipe to the point of leaving indents before finally succumbing to calmness. Metzli simply muttered, “They’re mad, as in angry. And no, turning to stone isn’t a specialty. Someone else must’ve done that. Also, I can obviously hear that you have no pulse, and you’re fucking freezing.” They rolled their eyes and paced forward to the entrance of the alleyway to take one last look at the chupacabra. “Fine. We’ll take care of it. But only if you stop being such a dick. I was trained in a clan and can handle myself well, and…fuck. Fine. If you need help, I guess I’ll have your back.”
They reached a hand out, motioning for Vic to shake their hand, “A small truce for now. I don’t know what your problem is with your own species, but I’m willing to put aside everything if you are. I haven’t had the best few weeks so…I—so—ugh. Sorry I blew up.”
Vic blinked, stopping for a moment to let her gaze fall on Metzli as they blew up on her. She pressed her lips together, processing exactly what was being said to her. Everything that they said felt justified- they were thoughts that had been tossed around her own brain for decades now. Thoughts that she worried everyone felt anyway. But still, despite how her mind was feeling, her mouth went on the defense. “I’m too busy trying to survive”, she muttered, though her eyes flashed away from Metzli’s. “Don’t flatter yourself.”
Her eyes wandered to where Metzli’s hand was wrapped around the pipe, and then back to their face, letting out a low breath of her own. “What do you suppose it’s so angry about?”, she wondered aloud, bracing herself for a fight with the creature, as if one were only moments away. “I have an undiagnosed medical condition”, she lied matter of factly, not interested in sharing the truth. She wanted to tell Metlzi that they’d probably take care of it in terms of self-preservation anyway, but maybe after upsetting them, it was best to leave well enough alone. She let out a huff before shaking their hand reluctantly.
“A truce”, she agreed, as ridiculous as it felt, “I suppose I can put insulting your character on hold until we’re in a safer situation. I’m… sorry if anything I said offended you”, she said through gritted teach. Before either of them had a chance to have any closure on their apologies, the creature was bounding toward them. It rushed it’s body into Vic, sending her against the wall of the gallery with a grunt.
“It’s probably mad at the people who turned it int—” Words were interrupted by the bellowing roar of the bounding chupacabra, followed by a crunching blow. There was no time to react, to stop the beast from running straight into Vic. Without thinking, Metzli threw their body at the chupacabra before it could do anything else to her. The metal pipe was thrusted into its chest with pure force and it screeched in pain.
Limbs thrashed and teeth snapped over and over again until Metzli was successfully thrown off. “Come on, Medical Condition! Rip its fucking head off!” they demanded, getting pummeled and bitten over and over again. Black blood pooled on the ground as it seeped from every bite.
A hand found a slippery grip on the protruding pipe, pulling it out and using it as a method of defense. It was the last resort, the last chance Metzli had against the devastating blows. Whether they lived or died didn’t matter, but they made a truce and told Vic they’d protect her. And if there was anything Metzli was not, it was a liar. They kept it distracted, trying to give Vic the chance to compose herself and attack properly. It was a struggle, but they wouldn’t lose their resolve.
Thankfully, Vic’s brain had the chance to process what Metlzi was trying to say before the wind was figuratively knocked out of her. It would have crushed her body if not for Metzli’s intervention, and for the first time, she was actually thankful for their presence. With the new defensive attack, the beast had found a new target in Metzli, and at first, all Vic could do was stare in disbelief at it’s anger and violence. Violence on this scale, while it was something she might have incited, wasn’t something she experienced first hand often, or even liked to think about. It brought back painful memories that were too stubborn be forgotten after 400 years.
But then her companion’s words shook her out of her temporary stupor and she sprung into action, using the chupacabra’s distraction to her advantage. She jumped on the creature from behind, muttering expletives in Swedish as it tried to throw her off, fighting for dominance.
She grit her teeth when she finally got a good hold of it’s head, and with Metzli’s earlier advice ringing in her ears, she tore it off. The creature’s body stood stiff for a moment, as if time had frozen between the three of them, but then it tumbled to the floor, sending Vic down with it.
She looked up at Metzli, the previous rigor of a fight in her features replaced with concern. It was the first time she had felt any type of sympathy for the other person. “Are you going to be okay?”, she asked, pushing herself up. “You’re looking rather rough.”
Stillness took over not only their body, but the air surrounding the two. Metzli felt their thick and congealed blood pool around them, and they felt so hungry. The chupacabra’s body was still very much warm as it laid dead on the ground next to them. “Nice job, Medical Condi…” But they trailed off, black consuming their vision as dizziness took over their head. Rolling over, they managed to get to their knees and crawl to a wall to prop themselves up. This was the worst condition they had been in since their days in the clan.
“I think after all of that, I should get at least a date at the bar,” Metzli coughed raspily until it bled into a dry chuckle. Despite the pain they were feeling, they wanted to give the notion that they were more than fine. Great, even. “I’ll even buy the drinks.” They continued to joke, only being half-serious about the gesture. Vic was definitely appealing visually, and even showed strength that they respected, but her personality was a little too hot-headed for their taste. But if there was anything Metzli had learned in their years of living, it was that people, just like them, put on a front to conceal their true selves from others.
“Hey…”, Vic said, walking the short distance to them. She rested her hand on their back, leaning down to get a good look at their face. Their condition was possibly even worse than she thought it was, and there weren’t many ways to help an injured vampire that she was comfortable with.
A Vic from last year would have seized the opportunity to turn them in to a hunter.
Instead, she said, “We need to get you some animal blood. I know a guy, if you don’t.” She tucked a hair behind her ear, still refusing to acknowledge the truth of what she was. Thank god for Metlzi’s impeccable timing for annoyance, because it gave her a chance to recover. “Don’t hold your figurative breath, Sweetheart. You know, you’re a lot more likely to get laid if you don’t sound so desperate. You sound like an insufferable teenager when you continuously come onto someone who’s clearly not interested.”
She pressed her lips together, leaning her back against the wall they were using as a crutch. “Sorry about your statue”, she said genuinely, gesturing to the bits of glass that surrounded what used to be a door. “I hope the gallery has good insurance.
Seeing Vic a little concerned, Metzli couldn’t help themselves and said, “Ha. You care about me. Well, you did. For at least two seconds.” They spit to the side, black blood spattering on the floor. Aches and pains cascaded to every nerve, making them grimace as they got to their feet. “Nah, I’m good, Vic. I’ve annoyed ya enough for one evening. It’s getting boring.” Each step hiccuped with a limp and they rolled their eyes at themselves. Being so injured was annoying, but it was also exhilarating to have been so close to death. So close it made them laugh. “That was a lot of fun though. Would’ve been funny as shit if I had died.
Vic’s concern was so out of place that it made them stumble and reposition their hands on the alleyway wall. “My gallery will be fine. Thanks, though. Maybe you’re not so bad. ” Metzli teased, walking around the corner and passing the ruins of their entrance door. Glass crunched under every step. They sucked their teeth and took out their phone to start making calls for the door, subsequently taking out a business card and holding it out for Vic. “If you wanna keep in touch, here’s my card. Sorry your night got all ruined. Pretty women like shouldn’t have to deal with shit like this.”
Vic didn’t bother to suppress her eyeroll, which was so much easier than acknowledging that Metzli might have been right. Still, there was an itching of concern for them, especially when it was notable that they were still definitely not in good shape. “Our definitions of fun are vastly different”, she decided out loud. Inwardly, she decided to walk Metzli home, or at least make sure they got home okay. She figured it’d be better than having to worry the whole night if they made it safely or not. Even if she’d have to sneakily wait till whatever time they decided to leave.
She took their card, but vowed to destroy it when she got home. In her hands, if she were in another state of mind, it would be too dangerous for her to have that kind of information. She let out a breath, tucking it into her pocket and looking back at them, her face barely changing. “Nobody should have to deal with shit like this”, she argued, unblinking. “But I guess that’s the world we live in, isn’t it?”
For so long, she thought she had been making the world they lived in a better place by ridding it of vampires. When one proved to her the amount of humanity they could have, like Metzli did tonight, she had to wonder who the real monster was.

Smitten Kitten [2]
one | two | three | four | finale
-> Pairing: Felix X Female!Reader | Hybrid!AU (mostly platonic idk)
-> Warnings: Cursing, Felix has a bad past
-> Genre: Crack, Eventual Fluff, Eventually a bit of angst
-> Word Count: 1.7k
-> Summary: You never wanted to be involved with hybrids. They were risky and had too many rules for you. But what will you do when a little black and white cat that you take in turns out to be the very thing you steered clear of?
-> A/N: hi! Here’s part two, thanks so much for reading! I hope y’all enjoy it as much as I like writing AU’s.
“This is fucking stupid.”
“No it’s not, you look fine.” Ashe rolled his eyes. You could tell he was getting a little tired of Felix’s bad mood.
It had been about two months since you found Felix and you were finally heading to the shelter to adopt him. At first you were hesitant because you didn’t want to literally own someone, but Ashe finally convinced you, saying it was the only way Felix could stay with you. If they found out you were caring for a hybrid that wasn’t yours, shit would hit the roof.
You didn’t really know what Felix had against Ashe and Sylvain, but he absolutely despised them. When it was just the two of you in your apartment, he was sweet and actually smiled sometimes. Around the other two, he reverted back into his bitchy attitude that had Ashe ready to strangle him.
You put your hand on Felix’s arm. He was tense. “There’s no need to be nervous. We got you.”
“Yeah!” Sylvain wagged his tail, “Look, I’m even wearing my leash so you won’t be alone.”
He was right. Felix put up a big fight when you tried to put on an old collar and leash but finally succumbed once he saw Sylvain wearing one as well. It was the first time since you had taken in Felix that he’d had to act like a hybrid. Leashes were mandatory in public.
Normally, you’d just give him a hat and hide his tail in his pants, but you couldn’t. The shelter wouldn’t be too happy if you walked in not following the rules.
You were just a little nervous about what to do once you got to the shelter. Felix hadn’t shared much about his past, but you knew enough to know that his reputation with the shelter and his past owners were anything except for good. You could only pray that they would let you keep him.
Felix must have sensed your nervousness and he turned to you. “You good?”
You sighed and looked at him, “Yeah. I just don’t want you going back there.”
“Hm. I’ll be fine.” He avoided your gaze, but laid a hand on your shoulder. “Maybe if they see someone actually willing to adopt me, it’ll be okay.”
“Damn, gettin’ a little handsy there, are we?” Sylvain suddenly appeared between you two, making Felix drop his hand. He whined. “Y/N, I thought we had something. Felix, I thought we could be something…”
“Sylvain, you and I can’t be something. I don’t date neutered men.” You smirked.
“Wh- I’m not neutered! Ashe may be a shitty owner, but he’s not that bad-”
“HEY!”
------
‘Madame’s Hybrid Correctional Facility’.
You’d only been in the building once to drop off a package that had accidentally been sent to the regular pet store and you swore you’d never go back. It was like a prison- hybrids were all in their animal forms, sitting alone in little cages that weren’t even suitable for actual pets. In the world, hybrids were seen as less than humans and in this facility, they were treated as such.
Felix shivered as Ashe held the door open for everyone to enter. You tightened your grip on his leash and stood closer to him as you led him towards the mean-looking lady at the front desk. She looked up from her romance novel and pushed her glasses up, sneering as she saw the cat.
“Felix.”
Felix’s tail twitched in irritation. “Nancy.”
“This isn’t the person who got you the otha’ week. What, they couldn’t stand the sight of you so much that they sent some child to bring you back?”
“Listen-”
“Uh,” You interrupted Felix, “Felix’s last owners dropped him on the streets. I found him. And I, uh, I wanna adopt him.”
Nancy’s head snapped from Felix to you. “You? You look like you couldn’t handle a fly landing on you. You think you can own someone like Felix? He’s nothing but trouble. A street rat. He’s lucky he hasn’t been sent to the federal facility.”
“She wants to adopt Felix, ma’am.” Ashe spoke up. “We’ve been taking care of him for a little bit, waiting to see if anyone came looking for him. They haven’t.”
“And who are you? You’ve already got a hybrid who you aren’t even supervising.”
You looked over to Ashe’s side. Sylvain wasn’t there. Instead, he was looking through the door’s window to the back room, winking at some female shih tzu. Ashe yanked the leash and Sylvain whimpered a bit, walking back to his side. “We can handle him.”
Nancy rolled her eyes. She tapped her annoying ass nails on the computer. “This computer says that Felix is still in custody of his previous owners. If he truly says that they abandoned him, then you can take him off everyone’s hands for a small fee of $2000. If not, we keep him.”
“Two thousand fucking dollars?” You nearly yelled. “Adoption fees at the pet store are like a hundred.”
“These are hybrids, sweetie. They’re more expensive. If you don’t have the money, you could always leave him here until you get it.” She smirked, “Well, actually, if you don’t pay now you have to leave him here. You legally can’t have a hybrid who isn’t under your name.”
You looked up at Felix, who had subconsciously moved closer to you. He was staring at the floor. He wouldn’t look at anyone, but you could tell that he didn’t want to go back.
Next, you looked over at Ashe. He and Sylvain looked at you with hopeful eyes.
You didn’t know what to do. If you paid the $2,000, you’d be completely penniless until you got paid in two weeks. And you needed to buy groceries. Having two mouths to feed has put a damper on your food supply. But you needed to keep Felix away from here and from the old hag at the front desk.
Sighing, you opened your bag and pulled out your checkbook, writing down the information. $2,000. With a second person to care for, you would need to pick up another job. It would be a little harder, but you’d have your friends to help you get situated. They all have hybrids and they treat them well.
Nancy smirked and practically snatched the check out of your hands. “You’ll bring him back in less than a month. You can’t handle him.”
You were quite ready to lunge over that counter and strangle this old hag. You glared at her and opened your mouth to say something in return, but a hand grabbed your wrist. Felix tugged gently, finally looking up from the floor for the first time in ten minutes.
“Let’s just go, Y/N.”
Ashe and Sylvain were three steps ahead of Felix, the dog hybrid now holding the door open for you. You huffed and grabbed Felix’s hand, flipping Nancy off as you practically stormed out of the shelter.
The walk back to the apartment building was quiet, save for Sylvain occasionally trying to start a light-hearted conversation. Each time, he was quickly shut down by a hiss from Felix. Speaking of the cat man, you hadn’t let go of his hand. If he minded it, he certainly hadn’t shown it, which was strange. Normally Felix would have ripped his hand away, snarling at you to ‘never touch him again’. And then that night he’d be curled up at the foot of your bed in his cat form, snoozing against your calf.
You knew it was a bad idea. If you kept ahold of Felix’s hand, you’d get some nasty looks. Hybrid/human relationships weren’t exactly… condoned. Once again, these people were nothing more than animals to some. You needed to let go.
But you didn’t want to.
As you left the shelter, his hand gripped so tightly to yours that it was borderline painful. Only once you were a good ways away did his grip loosen a bit. His fingers still remained tightly intertwined with his. Tight, but not unwelcome.
Before you knew it, you were unlocking your apartment door and waving goodbye to Ashe and Sylvain. You walked in before Felix and practically collapsed on the couch, sighing loudly.
Felix snorted and closed the door, taking a seat on the other chair. “You’re ridiculous.”
“And you’re too expensive to be such an ass.”
“That’s what they all say.”
You rolled your eyes and got up, beginning to rummage around the kitchen for anything to cook for dinner. Deciding to save it all, you poked your head out to look at Felix. “Take-out?”
He nodded. “I thought you didn’t want to spend more money?”
“Well I’ve gotta save my groceries for almost two more weeks and I still have a couple hundred left in savings. Some cheap takeout won’t be awful…”
Felix shrugged. “Whatever you want.”
You moved to sit next to him, pulling out your phone to order. Unconsciously, Felix’s cat reflexes made him curl in a little closer to you, his tail resting against your thigh as he peered over your shoulder at the online menu. Your hand moved down to pet it, but jerked back as a sound erupted from Felix’s throat. You looked at him, but he had his head down, his face flushed.
“Did you just purr?”
“Mind your own business.”
“You did, didn’t you!” You were excited. “That’s so cute!”
Felix whipped around to you, his eyes wide and face even redder. “I am not cute.”
You grinned and reached over to pet his tail again, this time not saying anything when he slowly began to purr. You simply admired his blushes. As you started to call the restaurant, a loud knock rang throughout the apartment. You signalled for Felix to go get it. He stood up and opened the door, revealing a woman and a man.
“Felix!” The woman squealed, wrapping her arms tightly around the hybrid.
You quickly hung up the phone and went over to them. “Excuse me, hi. Um, who are you?”
The lady pulled back and gave you a smile. It didn’t reach her eyes. “We’re Felix’s owners. We’re here to take him home.”

Chapter 8: The Little Prince and His Flower
(from the My Girl Trilogy: Stay Mine)
…in which Harry must return to Holmes Chapel, Y/N is upset he went without her, and family drama is not family-only.
Word count: 10k
AU: actor!Harry, older!Harry, younger!Y/N, (4-year age gap).
Wattpad link (Thea as Y/N)
What to expect in this chapter: Gemma/Isaac, Niall/?, Ruby(???), and a graveyard ‘date’
.
.
.
Isaac closed his umbrella, almost too caught up in what had happened to realise it'd stopped raining since Gemma had left. His mouth opened to answer Emilia’s question, but his brain was stuttering, unable to keep up.
He'd kissed Gemma.
No, she had kissed him. He didn’t know why she’d done it, but did it matter? He'd kissed her back and he'd liked it. He'd kissed his best friend’s sister, who had a boyfriend, a shitty one, still, it didn’t justify what he’d done.
If Harry knew about this—
His stomach twisted into knots as his palms started to sweat. Harry couldn’t know about this. They were finally on good terms again. Isaac couldn’t fuck this up. Had Emilia seen the kiss? Would she tell Harry if she had?
Isaac took a deep breath to ease his mind. To Emilia, he said, “I came to see you. You didn’t show up for the shoot, Emi.”
“I lost my phone and I thought the shoot was next week.” She gave an apologetic grin. “I’m very sorry.”
Her apology didn’t sound sincere, but now he had bigger problems to worry about. With an impersonal tone, he said, “If you’re not interested anymore, you should’ve let me know so I could find someone else.”
“No, no, I still want to model for you!” She wrapped her fingers around his wrist before he even thought about ending the conversation. His alarmed expression got her blushing as she hid her hands behind her back, staring at her feet. “I’d been...um...I’d been busy preparing for my audition this morning. That was why I took two days off in a row, and then my boss called me here today because the shop got overcrowded.”
“An audition? For a movie?”
He hoped his startlement didn’t offend her. There was nothing wrong with her auditioning for a movie; she used to go to film school after all. But not so long ago she’d told him she’d already given up on her dream of becoming an actress, so he was curious to know how that passion had sparked again.
“Yes, a real movie!” she exclaimed, her green eyes twinkling like Harry’s whenever he talked about his job, or Y/N.
As if Emilia could read Isaac’s mind, she added, “Harry encouraged me to attend casting calls. I’ve done some commercials and modelling before, so a movie would be a nice challenge. He also gave me the contacts of some directors—” His dubious look stopped her midsentence, and her voice went flat, “I didn’t get them from his assistant. He actually gave them to me.”
“No, I didn’t mean—”
“It’s okay. Please don’t explain.” With a frustrated exhalation, she peered around him. “Was that Gemma who just left?”
The hair stood up at the nape of his nape when he met her questioning gaze. Convinced that she’d seen the kiss, he had to admit, “Yeah, it was Gemma.”
Her eyes went round as she considered him in a sceptical manner. “Are you two dating?”
“No. She has a boyfriend.”
Gemma was so private that not many people knew she had a boyfriend. For all he knew, he could’ve lied to Emilia and gotten away with it even if she’d witnessed the kiss. He couldn’t bring himself to do it, though. He had a strict rule against lying. No matter how trivial you thought your lie was, you’d have to cover it up with more lies, and before you knew it, the lie had become too big, like a snowball rolling down a hill. The damage it would cause was inevitable.
Nodding slowly, Emilia ahhhhed in silence and concluded with, “Too bad. I’d love to talk to her.”
He waited for her to continue, but then she told him she had to get back to work and would text him with her new number. Just like that, she disappeared into the shop, leaving him in bafflement.
Emilia was the most curious person he’d ever met, so if knowing Gemma’s relationship status was a good enough answer for her, then she must’ve seen the kiss. What he couldn’t explain was how cool she’d been about it, as if him — her half-brother’s best friend — kissing her half-sister, who had a boyfriend, was the most normal thing in the world.
Either she hadn’t seen anything, or she was a much better actress than he thought.
.
.
.
Y/N had been a fool to think she would worry less about writing now that she’d found the perfect literary agent. For the last few months, she’d been stressed out about pitching her manuscript, but ever since she’d had Laura, her biggest concern had circled back to the manuscript itself.
Laura was a perfectionist, which was good, because she never made mistakes. But she expected the same thing from all of her clients, and Y/N would do anything to please that woman. Even if it meant pulling an all-nighter and living off on tea and protein bars just to finish another scene to move on to the next.
After their first meeting, Laura had emailed Y/N a very long list of what she ‘didn’t like’ about the story. Some scenes were redundant; the drama should be more intense; the plot twists weren’t shocking enough; more sex, more sex, more sex.
Y/N had vowed to herself that she would never, ever, write a generic story just to match a publisher’s bulleted list. Yet here she was, shamefully ticking boxes and changing the entire story as she went. If her characters could step out of the page, they would strangle her in her sleep for how she’d fucked up their lives. But if she was going to have an agent, she had to believe in her agent.
Laura knew what kind of book sold and what didn’t, and at this point, Y/N just wanted her novel to be published. She didn’t care if it wasn’t the best story in her opinion. As long as Laura guaranteed that Y/N’s babies would end up on the shelves in the biggest bookstores in London, Y/N would do anything – and she meant anything – Laura told her to.
“Y/N!”
The voice interrupted her train of thoughts, and she glanced up from her laptop screen to meet Alice’s amused gaze. “You haven’t touched your tea,” Alice said, her grin widened. Only then did Y/N realise her tea had been served a long while ago and already gotten cold. “And maybe stand up and walk around for a bit. How could you sit in one place for three fucking hours? Can you still feel your ass?”
Y/N snorted at the remark and wiggled against her chair. “This ass still feels pretty fine to me.”
“Weirdo,” Alice said, shaking her head.
But Alice did have a point. Y/N had been staring at the screen for so long that the words had begun to look all the same; a short break would do her some good.
Her shoulders sagged as she took off her AirPods, rubbed her eyes with the heels of her palms and glanced around the shop. It’d been so crowded when they had arrived this morning. Now, most of the customers had left, and there were only them, a couple at the table by the street-facing window, and three girls in the corner booth, who were laughing and taking selfies.
Alice shot them a disapproving glare before switching her attention back to the novella in her hands — The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Y/N’s mother had read it to her when she was little, and she still remembered the story as if she’d learned it by heart. You knew when a book was good when even Alice, who absolutely hated reading, could not put it down.
Not wanting to disrupt her friend, Y/N quietly pushed away from the table when Alice snapped her head up, her eyebrows scrunched. “Where are you going?”
“Gotta pee.”
Alice gave a dismissive wave, and her eyes were fixed on the book again.
In the bathroom, Y/N took the far back stall, telling herself to finish quickly so she could get back to work. But while cleaning herself, she heard echoes of high heels accompanied by the laughter of the previous group of girls. The door next to hers opened and shut, and the water ran as one girl washed her hands.
“Did she leave already?” asked the one in the stall.
“I think so,” said her friend outside.
“Shame. I thought Harry was gonna show up,” the third girl sighed in disappointment as the water stopped. The toilet flushed, heels clacked against the marble, and the water ran again.
“I saw him in the car park once,” continued the third voice. “He came to pick her up. You should’ve seen her bitchy face. No wonder she’s got no friend but the psycho Alice Young.”
Y/N scowled when the first girl chimed in, “Remember Mandy Torres from English Lit?”
The Mandy who’d pretended to be friends with Y/N and then shit-talked about her behind her back? Yes, she remembered.
“So Mandy invited them to her party because she’s a sweetheart. Then that bitch got insecure, thinking Mandy might steal her man, so she blew up at Many in the library, calling her names and stuff. Two people saw it!”
Y/N could bet these girls knew it was a lie, and still, they chose to believe it so they could have a reason to hate her.
Three of them laughed at the same time, and then the second one said, “Can’t believe she still showed her face after that clip.”
“What clip?” her friend asked, sounding just as confused as Y/N.
Her heart was pounding, and her fingers were clawing at her knees. She didn’t know what clip they were referring to. And why shouldn’t she show her face?
Yes, she and Harry had filmed a sex tape before, but they’d been careful and deleted it right after they’d watched it together. It was impossible that the clip still existed and had gotten leaked.
“Oh, you haven’t seen it? This morning, someone uploaded a clip of Harry Styles and Ruby Ellis dancing together at a party in LA. They were all over each other.”
“Oh my God, they’re definitely fucking again!”
“Can you blame him? Would you pick that whore over Ruby Ellis?”
Their laughter faded into white noise, and soon their footsteps had become mute.
Y/N sat there for a long moment, fists balling against her skirt until she was sure she was alone again. That was when she got on her feet, flushed the toilet and clawed the door open.
Her reflection in the mirror caught her by surprise. She almost didn’t recognise herself from how angry she looked. Taking a deep breath, she stomped to the sink to wash her hands and then dried them with a paper towel before going back to her table like nothing was wrong.
Out of the corner of her eye, she could see those girls watching her. They whispered something to each other, probably shocked and embarrassed that she’d heard them say all those terrible things behind her back.
The old Y/N would have stepped out of the stall and put them in their place. But the new Y/N — Harry’s Y/N — wouldn’t put on a show in public and take down her boyfriend’s career and her dignity.
“You okay?” Alice asked when Y/N plopped down in the chair across from her.
Y/N flatly said, “yes,” and put on her AirPods to get back to work. No more distraction. Fuck those girls. Fuck the internet. She didn’t need to see that clip to–
Her phone buzzed once, and she flinched. Cece had sent her a post on Instagram.
Now what? Was she going to check it? Her mind went numb for a second as her fingers froze on the keyboards. She kept staring at the blinking cursor until her anxiety became too much, and she surrendered. She grabbed her phone, swiped right on the notification and placed her thumb on the home button to unlock the screen.
Have you seen this?
No, she hadn’t. And she hadn’t intended to until now.
The thumbnail of the video was too dark for her to make out what it was, but the caption said: WHAT HAPPENED TO Y/N??? With shocked emojis. Three shocked emojis. His fans were freaking out for her, so this might not be good.
Biting a nail, she muted the volume and tapped on the clip to be directed to the post. It was dark at first, but when the pink light started flashing, she could make out Harry’s figure. She knew his drunk dance moves; he was definitely three sheets to the wind here. Then, she caught a glimpse of the dress Niall had criticised the other night. Ruby looked just as drunk as she danced next to Harry, shouting the lyrics of whatever song the DJ was playing.
It was hard to know for sure what was happening here as it was too dark, but a part of Y/N felt relieved because she had expected worse. They were just dancing together, their bodies barely touching, and there were so many people around.
“Shit.”
She jerked her head to the side, and Alice’s face almost gave her a heart attack. Alice was standing beside her, one hand on the back of Y/N’s chair, the other lay flat on the table.
“I don’t care what everyone’s saying. It doesn’t look like he’s cheating on you.”
Y/N’s heart beat faster even though she knew Harry would never cheat. Not on her, nor anyone else. She’d seen how he’d beat himself up for sleeping with Ruby despite her having a boyfriend. He’d made mistakes in the past, but he would never hurt a woman by cheating on her.
Maybe the issue didn’t lie in the fact that everyone was saying he had or was going to cheat on Y/N. Maybe seeing him dance with Ruby – at the big fancy party Y/N had refused to attend – made her feel like he would be happier at places like that, with people like that, people like Ruby and his famous friends.
Her chest sank as she finished the thought, but she still managed to set it aside as she closed her laptop and rose from her seat. “Ready to go, Al?”
“Sure, but can I pee first? I need to pee.”
Alice’s grimace made her giggle as she watched her friend rush to the bathroom.
She began to gather her notebooks and chargers when her phone buzzed repeatedly, and when she saw it was Harry, she picked it up. Something told her he’d just woken up, seen the clip and freaked out. He should freak out. Because she’d almost had a heart attack.
She shoved the rest of her things into her bag and hit the talk button.
“I’ve seen the video, so we don’t have to talk about it.”
“Shit,” he grunted. “Are you mad at me? I swear I was drunk and didn’t know who I was dancing with, but Jeff called me a taxi afterwards and–”
“Don’t worry, I’m not mad at you.”
When he let out a sigh, she could almost see him close his eyes and put a hand against his chest. “Where are you?”
“At a coffee shop on campus.” She leaned her hip against the table as she turned and made eye contact with one of the girls in the corner booth. The girl turned back to her friends like nothing was wrong, but Y/N knew the bitch was scared to death. To Harry, she said, “I’m heading home though. I’ll see you at the airport tonight, kay?”
“That...won’t be necessary.”
“What do you mean?” She straightened when realisation hit her. “Harry, where are you?”
“Holmes Chapel.”
She knew it.
“I knew it! I knew you’d go without me.”
“I’m sorry, babe. I didn’t want to involve you in my family drama. I’m going to talk to my mum alone, and then–”
She didn’t want to let him finish. “I’m already involved, though. I could help. You might get anxious and say the wrong things. Look how it went with Gemma.”
When he paused, she knew he knew she was right. Still, his stubborn ass would never admit it. “I’m sorry, babe. At least you can focus on your book while I’m not there. Miss you. See you soon.”
The line disconnected. She stared at the screen in disbelief, and text messages from him popped up.
Forgot to say I love you.
I love you.
With a sigh, she stuffed her phone into the front pocket of her backpack and pinched her temples. She hated that she couldn’t stay mad at him, but she wished he hadn’t blindsided her like that.
Whatever. She’d deal with him when he got back tomorrow.
She shrugged on the backpack just in time Alice returned from the bathroom. Alice clumsily threw her things into her nude tote bag and hurried to the door as Y/N preceded. The moment they stepped out into the street, Alice asked, “Did those Kardashian wannabes bother you when I was in the bathroom?”
She was referring to the girls in the corner booth.
“Why’d you think so?” Y/N responded as she kept on walking.
“I saw them glaring at you when we left, and I almost stopped to throw a fist.” Alice swung her fist and frantically apologized to an annoyed pedestrian for almost hitting him.
“Well, they talked shit about me in the bathroom and didn’t know I was there.” Y/N rolled her eyes.
“Why didn’t you tell me? I would’ve poured drinks on them like I did with Mandy.”
Y/N froze in her tracks, her eyes widened. “You did what with Mandy?”
“I heard her talk shit about you at her party so I poured vodka on her head.” Alice clasped both hands together in front of her chest. “Please don’t be mad at me.”
Y/N stared at her friend unblinkingly for a moment, and then crushed her in a fierce embrace. “You’re a good friend, Al. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Laughing, Alice clasped Y/N’s shoulders and pushed away from her. “You’re not going to cry, aren’t you?”
“No, you dick.” She brushed Alice’s hands off. “Lunch?”
“Sure. I’m starving.” With an arm around each other’s waist, they strolled down the busy pavement together.
After lunch in the Vietnamese restaurant right across from Y/N’s block, they ran into Blake outside. He was about to get into his car when he spotted Y/N and waved at her.
This was actually the first time she’d seen him in casual clothes. He always wore suits when he went to work, and workout clothes when he was at home. Today, he wore a black t-shirt with dark blue jeans, his hair uncombed, his smile wide. He looked almost five years younger. Almost like the ‘high school bad boy’ Blake that she remembered.
“Jesus, is that your ex-boyfriend slash neighbour?” Alice dropped her jaw as she fanned herself, and Y/N quickly swatted her on the arm.
Blake rested an arm on the roof of his car as a dimple appeared in his cheek. “Working on a Saturday, Miss Writer?”
“Working everyday, Mr Lawyer.”
Alice elbowed her gently while looking Blake up and down, so she had to add, “This is my friend Alice.”
“Nice to meet you, Alice. I’m Blake.”
Alice caught his hand with both of hers and shook it firmly. “Y/N has said a lot about you.”
“Has she?” Blake arched an eyebrow at Y/N, who scoffed and waved Alice’s comment away.
“Don’t believe her. She’s nuts.”
“Hey!”
Y/N ignored her friend and switched her attention to Blake’s car. He hated driving as much as she did, only because he preferred his motorcycle – which she assumed he’d left in the US – otherwise he would rather walk. And since he didn’t have to work on Saturdays, she took a guess that he was going out of town.
“Where are you going?”
“Holmes Chapel.”
His answer made her flinch. From what she’d heard, his parents didn’t live there anymore. So why would he go there?
“I’m visiting my grandma,” he said before she could ask. “You’ve met her a few times, remember?”
She nodded. His grandma used to love her. After they’d broken up, Y/N had even considered going to his grandma’s house every day so that Grandma Roman would grow attached to her and convince Blake to get back with her. Now she was glad teenage Y/N hadn’t had the nerves to do something so humiliating.
“Y/N, you’re going to Holmes Chapel tomorrow, right?”
Y/N shot Alice a disapproving glare before telling Blake, “Harry and I were gonna go together, but something came up and he had to go without me.”
Had to. Inner Y/N rolled her eyes at the words.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” Blake said, but she waved it off.
“Don’t be. Tell your grandma I said hi, okay?”
“Okay. Good luck with your writing.”
Her response was simply a dissatisfied hum. Just thinking about spending another night alone in her flat with her laptop could almost make her go insane. She could go out tonight, but she’d feel guilty because she didn’t have a reason to not write another chapter. If she was surrounded by family and friends, however...
“Blake,” she said before he could get into his car. “Can I go with you?”
When Alice dropped her jaw and Blake’s eyes went wide, she continued, “I can sit in the back. I won’t bother you.”
She'd already braced herself for rejection, knowing how much Blake hated being in a car with other people during long drives, even when he was the passenger. He relished the feeling of an adrenaline rush while riding his motorcycle, and had often joked that he’d felt most alive when he might die. Being in a car confined him. So did the company of someone else. It’d been different when they’d been a couple but they weren’t anymore. Now she was just ‘someone else’ to him.
“Sure, I don’t mind.” He flashed a grin that deepened his dimple and caught her by surprise.
“You don’t have to. I don’t want to make you feel uncomf–”
“I don’t mind driving you, Y/N. Get in.” He patted the roof of his car, and Alice aimed a pointed glare at him as if she hadn’t sighed like a schoolgirl when they shook hands.
Although Y/N understood Alice’s concern and was well aware that she would be spending three hours in the car with her ex, going with him sounded like a better idea than taking a taxi.
She hadn’t sat behind the wheel since the accident and had only let Harry drive her around. But somehow she trusted Blake. She’d trusted him with most of her first times, and being in a relationship with him for two years had convinced her that he was a careful driver.
“Y/N!”
The solitary voice caught her by surprise. She whipped around to see Niall crossing the street and stalking toward her with a bubbly grin on his face.
“Is that Niall Horan?” Alice unconsciously dug her nail into Y/N's arm, and Y/N winced as she pulled away.
“What are you doing here, Niall?”
“I had a photoshoot in this area and I thought we should hang out. You know, since we’re officially friends now.” He raked his fingers through his hair and arched his mouth when he noticed Blake. “Hey, man.”
Blake only raised his palm, saying nothing.
“This is Alice,” Y/N said as she gripped Alice’s hard shoulders. “She’s a big fan of yours, so please be nice to her.”
"Nice to meet you," Niall said. "Alice is a pretty name."
When he took Alice's hand and pressed a kiss to it, Y/N thought her friend would just pass out right in front of them. Alice might be bold with Blake, Isaac, and even Harry, but facing Niall, she suddenly forgot how to speak. Which might be a good thing because she said crazy things when she was nervous, and Y/N couldn’t handle more crazy right now.
“I’m sorry, Niall. I’m actually leaving.”
“Oh, where are you going?”
“We’re going to Holmes Chapel,” Blake answered on her behalf, still leaning against his car. He didn’t seem frustrated that she and her friends were wasting his time, and she truly wondered why.
Niall turned back to her with an eyebrow raised. “Weren’t you going with Harry tomorrow?”
“Apparently not,” she huffed. “But don’t worry. I’ll text him to let him know.”
“I can give you a ride.”
Niall pointed to the black Audi parked on the other side of the street. A man in a black suit, buzzed head, twice her size, gave them a cold stare as Niall waved and smiled at him.
“That’s Barry. He’s cool.”
She took a surprised breath, considering Barry for a quick second. “I think I’ll be fine with Blake.”
She would have agreed to go with Niall in a heartbeat, if there was just Niall, and he was driving a less luxurious vehicle. She could already imagine how badly her body would ache when they arrived, as she wouldn’t dare to move a single muscle in his new car, especially when Barry was the one who drove it.
“Okay.” Niall gave a nonchalant shrug as he fished out his phone and made a quick call. “Hey, man.” He gave the scary man across the street a peace sign. “I’ll stay with my friend. You may leave now. Thanks, Barry.”
Y/N watched Niall’s bodyguard/chauffeur get into the shiny Audi, not knowing what to expect when Niall put his phone away and switched his attention back to her.
“Let’s go.”
She narrowed her eyes at him. “What do you mean?”
“I’m going with you,” he said with a smirk, “and Blake.”
“Can I come, too, please?” Alice interjected as she tugged Y/N’s arm. “I’ll be quiet as a mouse, you won’t even know I’m there.”
“I’m not the one who gets to decide here, Al,” Y/N grumbled.
“Alice and Niall can join us,” Blake interfered, at last. “The more the merrier.”
When Alice started bouncing like a kid in a sweet shop, he mouthed it’s okay to Y/N, and she responded with an apologetic twitch of her lips that was meant to be a smile. If he was only acting to be polite to her friends, she’d feel so shitty.
Blake opened the door on the passenger side for her, but Niall quickly got in and buckled his seatbelt. With a sigh, she joined Alice in the backseat. Something told her that this was going to be the longest three hours she had ever experienced.

Gemma tightened her fingers around her phone. With one hand in her hair, she kept pacing back and forth in her hotel room, the beating of her heart accelerating with each ring. She hated phone calls. There was something so nerve-wracking about talking to someone and not knowing what their true reaction was. However, she knew Asher wouldn’t hold anything back.
When you’d been with someone for two years, you’d figure out their patterns. You could predict what they were going to say or do in a certain situation. And she wished it hadn’t been the case this time as what she was expecting was pretty awful.
She’d always considered Asher’s bad temper a minor flaw, but it hadn’t been easy lately. His business was going down. His dad had decided to stop pouring money into his failed ventures, which was why he’d been spending so much time with his family. He wanted to be on his father’s good side while sweet-talking his mother into helping him.
He was a mama’s boy, like Harry. The only difference was that Harry genuinely loved his family and would never blame Gemma for his own mistakes. Asher, on the other hand, took his exasperation out on her, making her feel like she’d been the cause of all of the bad things that’d happened to him in the last couple of months. She’d been walking on eggshells around him, well aware of how toxic that was, but the idea of ending a two-year relationship was too intimidating.
The ringing abruptly stopped. And so did she.
“Yes?” Asher spoke. He hadn’t heard from her in two days, and that was all she got from him. Yes?
“I have to tell you something,” she said anyway, trying to sound more composed than she looked. Perhaps a phone call was a good idea after all.
“I also have something to tell you. Can I go first?”
“Sure.” As much as she wanted to get this off her chest, the more she delayed, the more time there was to prepare herself for his reaction. She’d never seen anyone confess to their partner that they’d cheated and receive instant forgiveness, not even in movies. It definitely wouldn’t be the case for her and Asher.
“I think we should take a break.”
Her brain slowed down, unable to process that information. Her mouth opened and shut a few times like a goldfish until she could speak. “What do you mean?”
She knew exactly what a break meant. She just couldn’t bring herself to believe he’d actually proposed it, at least not before she told him about the kiss.
“I want us to stop seeing each other for a while.”
“We haven’t seen each other in weeks, Ash.”
“Come on, Gem, you know this is inevitable. We’ve been fighting constantly.” Yes. Because of him. “And I can’t remember the last time we had sex.”
“So you’re suggesting that we take a break so you could fuck other people?”
A long stretch of silence followed her question. Waves of anger splashed over her as she gripped the phone so tightly her knuckles turned white. She couldn’t believe she’d been so scared to tell him the truth, and then he’d proposed something like this without any sign of guilt.
“We both need this, Gem.”
“You’re right. We do,” she said despite the lump in her throat. “Goodbye, Ash.”
She ended the call before he could say another word and rushed to open the window. She needed some fresh air, otherwise, she might throw up.
Gripping the sides of the window frame, she took in a sharp breath. When she opened her eyes again, she saw a familiar Prius parked in front of the building. It looked like the one in Harry’s car collection, but wasn’t he in Holmes Chapel right now?
She’d gotten her answer as soon as the door was opened, and Isaac stepped out, phone in his hand. When he brought it up to his ear, her phone started buzzing, and she instantly grabbed it and tapped answer.
“Hello?”
“I’m here. Let’s go,” he said.
“What?”
“I’m driving you, remember?”
“Driving me where?”
“To Holmes Chapel.” His soft laugh melted the coldness remaining in her heart from the phone call with Asher. After an awkward pause, he said, “Oh shit, didn’t Harry tell you? He asked me to pick you up.”
She shook her head even though he couldn’t see. “I said I’d take the train.”
“You don’t have to. Your mum asked me to come for dinner and I just needed a reason to get out of town.”
Something told her Harry hadn’t asked him to pick her up, and she hated how good that made her feel.
When the thought of Asher crossed her mind, she snapped out of her fantasy. This wasn’t right. She was a hypocrite for being angry at Asher and then having butterflies thinking about her brother’s best friend. Clearly she wasn’t going to sit in a car with Isaac for three hours after what she’d done.
“Come on, Gem. We don’t have to talk about it.”
It.
He couldn’t even say the word. Her kiss must have disgusted him. She’d forced herself on him, and he was still nice enough to offer to drive her. He was only doing this because he was nice, because he was Isaac, not because he had feelings for her. Why would she want him to have feelings for her, anyway? She was still with Asher. Kind of. And she would eventually have to tell him that she’d cheated on him and then beg for his forgiveness.
Now that she thought about it, she believed she deserved this. She needed to start acting like a grown woman and dared to face what she’d done.
“Okay, give me a minute,” she told Isaac.
“All right.” A grin could be heard in his voice before the call disconnected. She sighed roughly, tucked her phone into the pocket of her jeans as she gathered essential things and quickly headed out.
When Isaac saw her walk toward him from the building, his first instinct was to shove his hands in the pockets of his trench coat, giving her a smile so courteous that it made her skin crawl. He loved giving and receiving hugs, but he didn’t do it with her anymore because she’d crossed the line.
He opened the door on the passenger side for her, and she got into his car, buckled her seatbelt as he got behind the wheel. The door was closed, muffling the traffic noise, and she could hear the pulse in her throat loud and clear.
She had to say something.
“What happened to the Range Rover?”
“Oh, this one’s Harry’s,” he said, his voice casual as he started the engine and drove back onto the street. “He lent it to Emilia so she could go to a movie audition. She asked me to return it.”
The nervousness was washed away by irritation as her face screwed up. “He lends her his cars now? Harry is anal about letting people drive his babies.”
“He did lend it to her. I asked him,” Isaac said with a shrug. “He said she’s basically family now.”
“I need to slap him when I see his stupid face.”
“And I need to watch that. Maybe film it, too,” he chuckled, eyes on the road.
She allowed a goofy smile to play on her lips, which vanished as she started to analyse what he’d said. “Did you meet Emilia today?”
“We did a photoshoot. She’s my new model.”
“Oh,” she said, unsure how she wanted that one word to sound.
Before she could dwell on the idea of him and Emilia, he broke the silence. “Harry said you’d asked him to go alone, but then you changed your mind. Is everything okay?”
“Yeah.” She tucked a strand behind her ear, fighting the urge to look at the side of his face as they talked. “I wanted him to fix the mess that he’d started, but then I realised he was an idiot and would most likely mess things up even more.”
That wasn’t the reason. Harry was no longer the careless kid who randomly brought up Winton and made their mum cry without knowing it. He was an adult and would figure out a sensible way to talk to their mum about Winton and Emilia. So why did Gemma insist on going home?
It took a moment’s thought for her to realise she’d done this out of guilt, and maybe desperation, too. She felt bad about forcing her brother to do the hard work, and at the same time, needed the safety of her family to escape from the stress her relationship had put upon her. She wished she could tell Isaac everything, but she didn’t want to make this trip about her.
“Are you mad at me?” His question brought her back to reality. Only then did she realise they had left the city and were heading onto a country road between large green fields. “Gem, are you mad at me?”
Her heart skipped a beat as she began to fidget with her handbag on her lap. He’d promised that they wouldn’t talk about the kiss. Did he lie to get her into this car?
“No, I’m not.” She winced at how forceful that sounded.
“Are you sure?”
“You said we didn’t have to talk about it,” she snapped and stiffened in her seat when he darted a quick glance her way before focusing on the road again.
He swallowed once. “I just don’t want us to be awkward with each other, Gem.”
“You’re right.” She lowered her face and scratched the tip of her nose. “I’m sorry for what I did. I wasn’t thinking.”
“I know why you did it.”
He did?
“You had a fight with your boyfriend and you were confused, right?”
“No, I–” She paused, feeling overwrought. “Why aren’t you upset? You should be angry at me.”
“No, I shouldn’t.”
“Yes, you should!” She almost turned and sat upright if it wasn’t for the seatbelt holding her back. “I kissed you when you didn’t want to be kissed. You should be angry.”
“Gemma,” the sound of her name vibrated with his warm laughter, and she felt her body melting into the leather seat. “I kissed you back, so I’m equally guilty here.”
Had he kissed her back? She couldn’t recall. The comforting scent of his cologne accompanied by the shock and guilt must have dulled her senses. But if he had kissed her back, did it mean he’d wanted her, too?
“Don’t worry,” he said after stealing another glance at her. “I know you’re in a long-term relationship. And I don’t want to mess it up, so let’s pretend it never happened. I think you weren’t aware that you were kissing me. I mean, someone like you would never kiss me.”
“Someone like me?” Her gaze jumped to the side of his face. “What does that mean?”
Thinking she was offended, he awkwardly explained, “That...that was meant to be a compliment. You’re a strong and independent woman. You’re smart, beautiful, funny–”
“Pull over,” she said, her heart pounding in her ears.
A glimpse of horror crossed his face as he faltered, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to–”
“Pull over, Isaac.” Her voice was strained, her eyes intense. The car reached a standstill on the side of the road, and her mind was spiralling out of control as she unbuckled her seatbelt and launched herself across the gearshift. She was on his lap, arms wrapped around his neck.
His body was stiff as a board when he dropped his gaze to her mouth, making her wonder if he’d been thinking about her since they’d kissed. She knew she had. The memory made her lips tingle as if he’d kissed them again. She wanted him to kiss them again.
They brought their mouths together at the same time. His hands claimed her face to deepen the kiss, and euphoria shocked through her system as she kissed him harder. She fisted the fabric at his chest, pulling him closer while his hands swept down her back, squeezing her hips. In that moment, when they were alone on the empty road surrounded by windy green fields, something that was meant to be wrong, felt like the rightest thing she had ever done.

Harry had been waiting on the porch since he’d gotten the text message from Y/N. His mum had told him to wait inside, but watching the street somehow made time fly faster. Or so he hoped.
He rested his elbows on his knees, face between his palms, unconsciously tapping his right foot. He did deserve this. He’d blindsided her and now she was making him pay by going home with her ex. Fuck that lawyer kid. Who did he think he was? If there hadn’t been Niall and Alice, Harry would have driven all the way back to London to pick her up.
Twenty minutes felt like two hours as he waited, and when he spotted a car from a distance, he immediately bounced onto his feet. But it was Isaac and Gemma in his black Prius, not his Bambi.
“Wow, aren’t you excited to see me?” Gemma sneered as she stepped out of the vehicle and walked towards him.
Isaac greeted Harry with a hug, and Harry pulled away and nodded his head toward Gemma. “You didn’t have to drive her, you know. I could’ve picked her up at the station.”
Silent, Gemma thinned her lips as Isaac rubbed the back of his head. Why were they acting so awkward? Had Harry said something wrong?
“I know what’s going on here.” Harry put his hands on his hips and narrowed his eyes at both of them. “You’re mad at me for lending Emi my car.”
Gemma’s shoulders dipped as she let out a sigh. “Even that name irritates me.”
“Oh, come on, Gem.” He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her to his chest, but she pushed him away. “That one is my least favourite,” he said, pointing to the Prius.
A corner of her lips quirked up as she brushed past him. “And you’re my least favourite person.”
Isaac tossed him the key and followed her, but before they made it to the porch, another car entered their street. Harry’s Bambi was here.
“My Bambi’s here!” he squealed like a little kid, making Gemma snort.
“Wait, Smiley’s here?”
“It’s weird that you still call her that, but yeah, Niall’s here, too,” he told Isaac and stalked toward the car which had pulled over in front of his house.
Niall got out first, stretching his limbs before pulling Harry in for an embrace. “You owed me, Harold.”
“I know. Thanks, mate.” Harry let go of Niall to hug Alice. “Didn’t know you were coming.”
“I didn’t either, but here I am. Lovely neighbourhood!” Alice lifted her shoulders as she adjusted the strap of her bag and then lowered her voice to almost a whisper, “Niall’s single, right?”
“Al! What are you whispering about?”
Harry’s gaze jumped to Y/N, who had finished saying goodbye to Blake. When Blake saw him, the kid raised a palm and a smile which looked fake as hell, but Harry managed to keep his calm and returned one just as plastic.
Y/N walked around the car and threw herself into Harry’s arms, holding his face and kissing his lips. He held her flat against him as he kissed her harder. He could hear Niall making a gagging noise, but he didn’t care as long as he got to rub this in Blake’s face. Because he was as mature as a nine-year-old, and he was fine with it.
“Stop eating her face, pervert.”
Gemma’s comment broke him and Y/N apart. He flipped his sister off and, with a smug look on his face, watched Blake’s car drive ahead and disappear at the end of the road. A swat on the chest made his eyes jump back to Y/N.
“You’re in so much trouble, Harry.” Her nose wrinkled, and he wondered if she knew how cute she looked when she made that face. He cupped her cheeks and kissed her forehead when Gemma took their friends into the house.
“I’m sorry, babe. Why didn’t you text me sooner?” he said with a pout. “You waited until you were almost here to tell me you were coming.” With fucking Blake.
“Well, I knew you were going to wait on the porch. Couldn’t make you wait for three hours.”
His heart fluttered as he pressed a kiss to her temple. “You know me so well, kid.”
“I’m still pretty mad at you,” she said. “But I do have a lot to tell you about.”
“About your book?”
She smiled and nodded. He released a relieved sigh as he brought her hand to his mouth and kissed her knuckles. “I was afraid that you’d be mad at me. The clip and everything.”
She lifted an eyebrow. “Would you prefer that I’m mad at you?”
“No.” He shook his head and pecked her lips then either corner of it. “I’m a bad boyfriend. I should’ve driven you, not your stupid ex. Thank God for Niall and Alice.”
“Niall was even worse than you,” she giggled.
He nuzzled her neck, tilting her head up to press a series of kisses to her jaw. When his hands swept from her back to her spine, she snatched his wrists and pinned them to his chest. The way she arched an eyebrow and clicked her tongue made his cock swell against the fly of his pants. When her pupils dilated, he knew she felt it, but she didn’t acknowledge it and gave him a chaste kiss on the lips before pulling away.
“I have to say hi to Marcy and Dad. I’ll come over later, kay?”
“Tell them to join us for dinner.” He tugged her arm, not letting her go just yet. “Bradford and I can bond over our hatred for Blake. It’ll be fun.”
“I’m sure he’d love to come, consider how much he loves Isaac.”
“Damn it,” he cursed when she burst out laughing and cupped his face to kiss him twice on the cheeks. With a lovesick smile, he watched her pad across her front yard and waited until she’d gone into her house to finally return to his.
His mother was so happy to have so many guests that night. She’d cooked a big meal for everyone. Even Bradford and Marcy came to join them. Just like Harry’s promise, he and Bradford had bonded over their same intense dislike for Blake Roman. Y/N had to stuff their mouths with spaghetti so they would stop talking. Alice had won Niall over with her review about the first book she’d read in her life, and now Niall was reading the first book in his life. Weird, but cute.
What was even weirder, however, was to see his sister being so close with Isaac. They’d been whispering back and forth the whole night, and not once did Gemma mention Asher. Harry didn’t like Asher that much so he didn’t mind, and it was good to see Gemma happy again. He hadn’t seen her smile that big before. His mum, too.
His heart sank to the bottom of his chest as he remembered the reason they were all here. He had to tell his mum about Winton.
She would be so disappointed. She might even cry. And this dinner, all of these jokes, all this laughter would mean nothing when she heard about Winton and Emilia. Harry hated to be the reason the women he loved cry. But if he didn’t tell his mum, and she found out herself, he’d be the shittiest son in the world. This would hurt either way, one less than the other.
Dinner was over soon. While everyone gathered in the living room for a game, Harry and Gemma volunteered to clean up. Just like when they were kids, they did something wrong and volunteered to do the housework so the chance of them being forgiven would be higher. Harry knew what he’d done wrong. He didn’t know why Gemma was here.
“They’re playing Scrabble.”
The voice made him flinch before two arms wrapped around his waist, pulling her body toward his. Y/N tiptoed to kiss his neck, and he giggled like a little boy. Gemma gave them a funny look but didn’t say a word because she, and everyone else, was already used to their public affection.
“Let’s wait until tomorrow morning,” she told Harry, and his face screwed up.
“And ruin Mum’s entire Sunday?”
“Well, would you prefer that she stay up all night?”
“I agree with Gemma, baby.” Y/N tightened her grip around his waist, resting her cheek against his back. She felt so small pressed against him like this, and since he’d gone two days without fucking, the thought of holding her up against the wall and spreading her open with his arms beneath her knees was enough to turn his balls blue. He would make that fantasy a reality if Gemma weren’t here, and they weren’t one door away from the only group of people whose opinions about them mattered.
“Okay, tomorrow then,” he said and turned on the tap to wash his hands.
“Alice will sleep with me tonight,” Y/N said. “Niall or Isaac can use our guest room.”
“I’ll sacrifice Niall. Your guest room is shit, and I love Isaac a bit more than Niall.”
She pinched his side and he jumped, but her arms forced his body still.
“I’ll let Gemma pick then,” he said.
“What?” Gemma asked, distracted.
“Isaac and Niall,” he raised a smirk. “One will have to sleep in Y/N’s shitty guest room. One stays here with us.”
“It’s not shitty,” Y/N said in a protesting tone.
“Babe, I saw a rat the last time we had se—”
She smacked a hand over his mouth before he could finish the sentence. As Gemma rolled her eyes at them, he plucked Y/N’s fingers off his face and told his sister, “Go ahead. You pick.”
She opened her mouth. For a second, he thought she was going to answer, but then she released a huff and said, “I’m not doing this with you children.”
“Children?!” He dropped his jaw as she stalked out of the kitchen. Y/N dissolved into laughter as he spun around, took each of her arms and draped it over his shoulder.
A smile played on her lips, and she asked, “Do you wanna join them or go on a date with me?”
“Oooh, where is this date?”
“The cemetery.”
His face went blank for a second as she stifled a laugh. “Just kidding.” She pinched his cheeks. “I’m going to see my mum. You coming?”
“Why does it have to be now?”
“Are you coming or not?”
He was so whipped he would have gone without knowing it was the cemetery. “Fine. But if we see a ghost, I’m leaving you behind.”
She laughed and shoved him away, and they raced each other to the living room. They told everyone that they’d go out for a walk. And as he escorted her to the door, Niall and Alice started clapping and cheering, and Gemma tossed a pillow at Niall to get him to shut up.
There wasn’t a particular reason that Y/N had chosen to plan a cemetery visit at this hour. She simply enjoyed strolling around town in the night as much as Harry did. When he was a teenager, he used to bring one of his dates to the field behind his house, and they had taken long walks under the night sky and made out in his car afterward.
He’d thought it’d been the most romantic experience in his life, until two years ago, when they’d visited her mother’s grave together. That was when he’d realised the cemetery could be romantic. Everything turned romantic when he was with her.
So if she wanted to walk around a graveyard at one in the morning, he would blindly follow, no questions asked.
After finding a safe parking spot, they walked to the tall iron gate that looked like the set of a Hitchcock movie. No one had bothered to polish it since the last time they’d been here, and he guessed no one intended to anyway.
Just like the last time, she snuck through an opening in the fence to get into the cemetery, and he tagged after, his heart thumping loudly. They’d better get to share a cell if they got arrested for trespassing.
It was a little foggy at 1 AM. The air was cold and the grass was damp. They padded across a desolate lot and were careful not to get their shoes dipped into the mud. As they followed the brick pathway, he negotiated his way around the gravestones, trying to keep up because she was walking too fast, like a ghost. The thought made him shiver. Probably not the best comparison to make when they were literally in a cemetery.
After a five minute walk, they finally arrived. Her mother’s headstone stood erect, bathed in light spilt from the ashen moon. Seeing the fresh flowers on the grave, Harry assumed Bradford had just visited his wife today. Y/N had told Harry that her dad came here every week to trim the grass and clean the stone. It was nice how much things had changed since their last visit.
As she squatted down to rearrange the flowers, Harry spotted a newly dug grave nearby and pointed to it, grinning. “Your mum’s getting a new neighbour.”
Y/N put a finger to her lips and shushed him. “Don’t disrespect the dead! They’ll come for you tonight!”
He scoffed at the threat, but as a cold breeze whisked right through his clothes, he immediately cowered to her side, and she doubled over, almost choking on her own laughter.
After giving her mother updates on her book and his Oscar nomination, Y/N kissed her fingers, pressed them against the moonwashed stone and bid her mother goodbye. They followed the same path weaved around tombstones to go back to the opening between the fence. With a feeling of being watched, Harry kept looking behind him as he clung onto Y/N like she was his weapon.
“Don’t look back,” she said. “My mum is following us.”
The shadow of a smile on her lips almost got him running for his life. He swore he’d never do this with her again, knowing for a fact that he would, if she only asked.
Once they returned to their parking spot, they retrieved two cans of Coca-Cola from Y/N’s bag and lay on their backs on the bonnet of his car to watch the stars. His adrenaline from their stroll across the cemetery was finally washed away as he listened to her ranting about her new book.
He wasn’t a writer so he wasn’t qualified to give her any advice. He mostly just listened, and because he knew Y/N didn’t want people’s advice. She vent her frustrations to feel better for a while, and most likely would end up doing whatever felt right to her.
Soon the topic of work bored her out. She extended a hand toward the sky and closed her fingers around nothing as if she was grasping the stars.
“Have you read The Little Prince?”
The random question put a smile to his lips. “The book Alice and Niall couldn’t shut up about during dinner?”
“Yeah.”
He took her hand that was in the air and brought it to his mouth so he could kiss her knuckles. “I have. Why?”
“My mum read it to me when I was little,” she said. “I used to wish I’d lived on the little prince’s tiny planet. All you needed to do was move your chair a few steps and you could see the night sky whenever you liked. We could live in this same moment, over and over again.”
“And never grow older,” his voice softened, and she replied with a quiet hum.
“Wouldn’t that be great?”
He cocked his head to the side and met her softened gaze. But then a hint of worry washed out that dreamy haze, and a line appeared between her brows.
“Do you sometimes wish I was cooler?”
That was a big shift from the story of the little prince. Surprised, he squeezed her fingers gently. “What do you mean? You’re always cool.”
“I mean, cool like...like your friends cool.” She huffed in frustration as she didn’t know how to properly get her point across, but he’d already figured it out.
“You should’ve told me the clip still bothers you,” he said with a frown, and the way she pursed her lips confirmed his speculations. “Bambi…”
“We used to have a lot in common when we were kids.” Her bottom lips trembled as her breaths quickened. “Now our lives are so different. And I’m fine with it, and I know you are too because we love each other. But sometimes it feels like…” She stalled, and with no intention of finishing that sentence, dropped her gaze to her hand in his. “I wish I fit better in your life, so when people see us together they’d just accept it without questioning why.”
“Why do you care what they think, Bambi?”
She bit her bottom lip, thinking for a second. “I’m trying not to. It’s hard.”
A smile stretched his lips as he leaned in, stroked his thumb across her cheek and kissed her mouth lightly. Her lashes fluttered when he pulled away.
“The little prince has a flower, right?” he asked.
“Yes, he has a rose,” she said with a pensive expression. “The only one on his planet.”
He nodded once. “If I remember correctly, she’s a very beautiful flower. She shows off her thorns and puts on a superior attitude, but is actually a sensitive little thing and doesn’t like to expose her vulnerability.”
“Oh no, I’m the flower,” she gasped, making him chuckle.
He brushed her hair out of her face and went on, “When the prince comes to the earth, he finds himself in a garden with hundreds of roses, all as gorgeous as the one he loves.”
She continued for him, “But he still thinks his rose is unique and more important than all of the other roses together.”
“Yes.” He propped himself up on an elbow to lie on his side. “And why is that?”
“Because he loves her, and he knows she loves him, too,” she said while caressing his face with the back of her hand.
“That’s right.” He nodded again. “Most people think the prince is stupid for travelling from planet to planet for a rose, but he doesn’t care what they think. No matter where he is, he always thinks about his little flower. He fell in love with her when he was little and has spent his whole life watering and caring for her. Love comes from investing in other people, isn’t it?”
Her smile widened as she combed her fingers through his hair, and her cheeks bloomed with colours when she drew him in and kissed him deeply. He melted from the intensity of her lips as his hands smoothed down her arm, squeezed her behind, and pulled her as close as he could. The hardness of his body against her softness. Adrenaline coursed through his veins. The butterflies in his stomach. He was spiralling out of control.
“I’m crazy about you,” he muttered against her lips and threaded his fingers in her locks. “I don’t care how different we are. When I first said I love you, I promised I’d stay. So I’m yours as long as you still want me, Bambi.”
The corners of her eyes crinkled as she wrapped her arms around his neck and nuzzled his cheek. “I want you forever. Can you handle that?”
He drew her closer, and their bodies came flush together. “Forever and ever, baby,” he said before kissing her again.

richboy!seonghwa (part 16)
word count: 4k
fluff
(part 15) (series masterlist)
it wasn't even noon yet and the day has already left you defeated. because everything that could possibly go wrong, went wrong today. after staying up until the wee hours of the morning finishing assignments and studying for tests, you had forgotten to set your alarm and woke up ten minutes before the first bell.
strike one, your first tardiness. two more and you'll get a weeks worth of detention.
you jumped out of bed and started to full on scramble, tripping over luna in the process as you ran around your room, toothbrush in mouth as you fumbled through your closet for a uniform. you flew down the stairs, nearly tumbling down the last three as you run out the door and forgetting your packed lunch in the fridge.
strike two, you get to starve at lunch.
and you could've sworn strike three and four was just for the amusement of some higher being watching, bored beyond belief and laughing at the way you nearly flip over your handle bars as your front tire blows out.
"no, no, no, you've gotta be kidding me!" you seethe in anger, jumping off your bike to assess the torn tire. and you can try to take deep breaths, in and out, in and out, until you've calmed down and used proper relaxation techniques; but you much prefer the method of letting out a giant curse and kicking the bike frame repeatedly before begrudgingly walking it to school.
and then, like the expense of a new tire and more lateness wasn't enough, you tripped up the stairs running into the main doors and promptly sliced your knee open.
so you'll have to be forgiven for the annoyed scowl on your face, sitting with a clenched jaw and bouncing leg as you relive your nightmare of a morning. because you try not to dwell on negative things, those little inconveniences that always potentially have the power to ruin your day. but it's just the matter in which it happened, one after another so chaotically causing your head to pound and your need to just crawl in bed and escape the politics of this stupid rich school.
because even though it's incredibly obvious you're having a bad day, these ruthless students don't care. you walk into 4th period, head down and hair covering your face until you see two feet under the desk you were about to plop in. you pick your head up to the see the girl who gave you shit on the first day looking at you with a cocked head and smirk.
"hello, new girl," she hums sarcastically and you resist the urge to scream at her.
"you're in my seat," you tell her quietly, matter-of-factly, just wanting for a second to get some peace today.
"oh, am i?"
you roll your eyes at her tone, nodding your head sarcastically and she squints her eyes menacingly. "you're getting awful bold now, aren't you? i heard about the shit you pulled at the ski trip, you know."
you can only raise your eyebrow, turning your head questioningly. and that's when she gets up and looms over you, staring down with a dark look in her eye.
"playing cinderella with seonghwa, are you? the poor girl and the prince," she says, tapping the horrendous shoes that of course she hasn't forgotten, "still have these...things, i see. and you still go and throw yourself at him? shameless."
you can only find it in yourself to sigh, looking at her with a blank expression. you're just on empty today, no energy in you to fight or defend yourself.
"got nothing to say?" she quips, poking your shoulder lightly and causing you to tip back. you huff before attempting to inch your body around her but she only bumps you with her hip so you stumble back into place.
"i wasn't done with you."
"well, i'm done," you say quietly, "i've had a realllly bad morning so if you could just leave me alone please."
the sarcastic laugh that blows in your face causes your fists to clench, frustrated tears starting to build behind your eyes because you just wanna put your head down and close your eyes and pretend you're anywhere but here.
"aw, i'm so sorry to hear that," her sharp whiney voice spits sarcastically, "but you've made my mornings pretty bad ever since you got here. stealing my seat and seonghwa's attention and subjecting me to look at such poverty."
and even with the frustrated tears stinging behind your eyes, you can't help but laugh at the last part of her statement. laugh at how old this shit is getting and how she really thinks you'll get upset by that.
"did i say something funny?" she asks, turning her head to the side challengingly and you think she's gonna try to rip your hair out.
"no," you say, pressing your lips into a tight line, "i just really want you to leave me alone so i can sit down and-"
"well i really want you to stop being here!" she screeches and your body juts back at the sheer sound and acidity in her tone. "i don't think you realize just how much everyone here fucking hates you." she's advancing toward you to intently, dark, crazy eyes boring into yours as you walk backwards. "how much we're embarrassed to see you here and that you're associated with us."
"well i don't wanna be here either," you bite back, finally, halting your feet so you hold your ground. "i hate that i have to deal with people like you here, who don't even know me and yet give me shit constantly for the stupidest thing. if i bother you that much, why can't you just leave me alone?" you ask, voice cracking as your resolve breaks.
because you don't wanna deal with this ever but especially today. your dejected spirit and pounding headache and throbbing knee just can't handle it.
"just pretend i'm not here and ignore me," you beg and you don't even realize the room is silent, hearing your pathetic pleas and wobbling voice. "ignore who i talk to and ignore my $10 shoes that apparently bother you so much and just fucking leave me alone."
she smirks when she hears the wobble in your voice, "aw, new girl, are you gonna-" but because her sharp, malevolent eyes have been boring into yours the whole time, she doesn't realize seonghwa in the doorway (who was trying but failed to take yeosang's advice) nor does she notice him walking up the aisle until you step back and bump into his chest.
his gaze meets yours when you turn around, eyes watering when you see his are full of concern and anger; you don't know what it is about him that makes you so weak and vulnerable in an instant. maybe it's because you know he'll take care of you in a second, without hesitation.
"what's going on, y/n?" he asks softly, placing his hand on your hip and guiding you around his body so he's standing in between you both.
"i...i just want-" you pause when you swallow down the frustrated sob, or scream, you don't really know at this point, and bite the inside of your cheek.
"what?" he asks lowly, moving in closer to you and rubbing his thumb soothingly against your hip. "tell me."
"i just want her to leave me alone," you squeak out, eyes meeting the floor so you miss the way his demeanor turns cold. how his eyes harden and jaw tenses before he turns to the red-faced bully.
"hi seong-"
"i'm not gonna tell you again," he spits darkly, taking a step closer to her, "she asked you to leave her alone so i suggest you leave her the fuck alone."
the girl's trapped against the wall now, because the whole time he was talking he was taking steps closer. and now seonghwa's looking down at her and shaking his head, "and if you don't, you're stupider than i thought."
"why do you always-"
"i don't remember saying you can ask me a question," he snaps, "so why are you talking?"
you watch as she gulps and you almost feel bad for her, because he really does sound scary.
"i-i"
"leave her alone and go sit down. now."
and just like anyone would, she immediately listens to his command until his voice speaks again when her body passes you.
"apologize to her."
you snap your head to look back at seonghwa, watery wide eyes staring at him as you shake your head. but he only stares at you challengingly and nods his head towards her. you turn around to see the girl looking at you in fear and it's such a contrast to how high and mighty she looked a minute ago.
"i'm sorry," she spits at you, the humbled look in her eye doing nothing for her bitchy tone. you answer by simply turning your back to her, making your way to your seat and finally plopping down. but seonghwa's still standing, looming over your desk and his gaze lands on your red, scrapped up knee; his body immediately tenses.
"did she do that?"
your head snaps up immediately at the rage in his deep voice.
"no," you squeak out, shaking your head side to side quickly. "i fell this morning. one of the many unfortunate series of events."
he squints his eyes at you, pursing his lips before holding his hand out.
"come with me."
your eyes travel from his outreached hand to his face, handsome as always but void of expression.
"where?"
his lips quirk into the smallest of smiles.
"just come," he says lowly, "please." and just like that, you grab his hand and he leads you out of the silent room.
you know the second you're both in the hallway that the excited chatter starts up again, hearing the loud booms of "oooh" and high-pitched shrills echo throughout the classroom.
but you can only pay attention to seonghwa leading you down the hall, tightening his grip on your hand as his intertwines your fingers.
"where are we going?" you ask him as he continues to wordlessly drag you.
"the nurse," he says, "you didn't clean that, did you?"
"i didn't have the time," you mumble lowly and he only shakes his head at you, a scolding look on his face.
when you get to the office, the nurse leads you both to one of the rooms stocked with band-aids and first-aid kits, a white twin bed shoved into the corner that seonghwa guides you over to. he gestures for you to sit before walking across the room and fumbling in the shelves.
he's back over to you in seconds, band-aids, alcohol, and antiseptic cream in hand. he places them down, gently tugging your knee-high sock down and cringing when he sees your torn skin.
"this is bad, y/n, why didn't you come here?" he asks, looking up at you from his squatting position. you can only find it you to shrug, watching and hissing through your teeth when he swipes the pad over your skin.
"sorry," he says lowly, a slight pout on his face as he dabs at your leg. you watch him thoughtfully, the delicate way in which he cleans your wound wrenching your heart, soft, gentle swipes before he looks at you with a small smile.
"just this now," he mumbles, his fingertips grazing yours when he picks up the band-aid and places it on your knee. his touch is light and precise and it's making your chest hurt even more. not just because of the bad day you've been having but because of...everything. your conflicted mind and feelings of guilt and the way he's just so kind to you.
he throws out the excess packaging before taking a seat next to you, turning to face you as he silently looks you over.
"do you feel better now?" he asks, the slightest hint of teasing in his voice.
but again, you can only nod while a humorless chuckle leaves your mouth. "yeah... thank you seonghwa," and your voice is so small and quiet he feels a pang in his heart. because you sound...sad, almost detached.
"you don't seem better," he remarks gently, cautiously, like he doesn't wanna upset you further but also wants to see you happy again.
"just a bad morning," you squeak out, frustration swirling through you at the pounding in your head. "i..don't know why she wouldn't just leave me alone. i've had such a bad morning and i just wanted her to stop talking."
"she won't bother you again," he mumbles, bringing his arm up slowly to wrap around your shoulders. you let out a quiet, tired sigh, allowing yourself to lean into him despite your knotted stomach. because you shouldn't be accepting his comfort right now.
he smiles feeling your head rest on him, thumb moving across your skin slowly and you move your head further into him with a wince. "my head just hurts," you whine and without a word, he brings his hand up to your temple. you groan slightly when his thumbs starts to massage the side of your head, closing your eyes and basking in the slight relief he's giving you.
"nice," you mumble and his quiet chuckle surrounds the small room.
you both just sit there, eyes closed as your head rests on his shoulder while he rubs at your temple slowly; an occasional hum leaves his mouth when he hears a tiny murmur from you.
"why don't you lay down?" he mumbles after a few minutes, "i'll get your stuff from the room, yeah?"
"it's okay, i'll just go back with-" but when you stand, a painful pang jolts into the side of your head and his hands shoot out to steady you by your hips. he gently turns you so you're standing in between his legs and you're not used to the angle of looking down at him, head cocked to the side and brow raised as he watches you with soft eyes.
"please, y/n, just listen to me," he whines and the underlying command in his voice has you squinting your eyes at him. "why are you looking at me like that?"
your serious face quickly gets wiped away by a small giggle, shaking your head at him and it's like he knows he's in the clear now. he stands and watches you lay on the hard bed, fluffing up your pillow so it leans against the wall.
"seonghwa, if you start tucking me in, i'm gonna scream."
a guilty look crosses his face and you bite your lip to hide your smile. but he catches it anyway and it's enough to bring one to his face, happy to see the ghost of a happy expression on your face.
"there it is," he says cheekily, tapping the crease in the corner of your mouth causing you to scrunch your nose up at him in distaste.
"don't you ever get sick of taking care of me?" you ask him quietly, "it's gotta be getting annoying."
a tiny snort leaves him as he looks down at you, bending so he's at eye level with you. he runs his hand through your hair, tucking it behind your ear and causing you to swallow nervously.
"in case you haven't noticed, i throughly enjoy it. probably more than i should."
a tiny laugh bubbles out of your mouth as you shake your head at him; you will never understand how the hell this happened.
"and besides, if i didn't, who else would?" he quips with a small smile, tapping your nose lightly and you hope he doesn't notice your face pale.
'yeah, who else, y/n?' that snippy part of your mind thinks.
his eyebrows furry when he sees you shake your head, as if you're shaking thoughts from it, and you smile innocently up at him. "right," you awkwardly laugh out.
"i'll be back in a few, okay?"
you salute him sarcastically, watching him leave and you feel yourself let out an exhale you didn't even realize you were holding when he walks out the door.
"he probably wouldn't do this anyway," you mumble to yourself.
the second seonghwa walks out of the nurse's office, san nearly barrels into him. "oh shit, sorry br- oh! seonghwa!" he chirps happily before he notices where he's coming from. "are you sick?"
"y/n wasn't feeling good, a headache," he says and san's face immediately drops, a pout forming on his lips as he looks through the glass of the window for you. "she's laying down inside," he informs the boy until a thought crosses his mind.
"hey...do you wanna come with me somewhere real quick?"
san shrugs his shoulders nonchalantly before nodding his head. "sure, where we going?" he watches seonghwa fish in his pockets for his car key, throwing it to the boy who catches it with ease.
"pull my car around, i gotta get her stuff and then i'll meet you."
once the two boys disperse, seonghwa goes to the room and hushly explains to the teacher he's there to get your stuff before he's back in the hall and rushing back down to the nurse. and when he opens the door to the room again, he feels his heart swell.
because within those five minutes, you had fallen asleep. hands under your cheek, with a peaceful soft look on your face. he smiles to himself, quietly walking over and placing your bag at the foot of the bed. he roams your slumbering face with a sickeningly soft expression, allowing himself to admire you looking so peaceful and content for a few moments.
and then before he turns to leave, he places a soft kiss on your forehead and lets his lips linger, mumbling a few hushed words against your skin.
"i don't know, guys, i was like half in-half out of sleep," you tell mingi and yunho two periods later. they had seen you come in with messy hair and pink cheeks and looked at each other suspiciously. "i was sleeping, you pervs," you grumbled at them, throwing mingi a dirty look when he makes a snide comment about you and yeosang between the bookshelves yesterday.
"okay, but you heard something, right?" yunho inquires, arms folded onto the table.
"you're like a 13-year-old gossip girl," mingi says sarcastically, bumping the large boy's arm who only throws him a dirty look.
"i don't know," you squeak out, "maybe friday? but what's friday? why friday?"
"i don't know," yunho says before they both look at mingi.
"what, i don't know," his deep voice quips, "maybe...he's gonna ask you on a date?"
"oh, my god, don't say that!" you squeal, throwing your hands over your face prompting mingi and yunho to throw looks at each other again.
"why would that be such a bad thing?" mingi asks you softly.
"because she likes yeosang," yunho whispers. but apparently not low enough.
"i do not," you spit out causing the boy to laugh and your cheeks heat. because, okay, you can even admit that's a lie.
"okay, maybe i do," you whisper, "but...i also like seonghwa. how can i not, he's just so..."
"safe," yunho says, "you know he likes you and he's perfect but almost a little too perfect. and nice, but almost a little too nice."
"oh jesus christ," mingi mumbles, "and here he goes, about to defend-"
"but yeosang, there's passion there. and fire. you hate to love him."
you and mingi fall into the same position, head cradled in hands as you wonder how on earth you got yourself into this kind of situation so fast and mingi tries to remember the time he had peace and quiet during his lunch hour.
"well, you know my stance on the matter," mingi grumbles causing your head to pop up.
"this is a disaster," you whine, "i feel like i'm two timing seonghwa."
"how do you figure?" yunho asks, "you've known each other for what, three weeks? it's not like anything was ever made official."
"i know," you say quietly, "but me and yeosang agreed not to tell anyone about...what i told you guys yesterday. so i feel like, i don't know, it's a dirty little secret."
"the excitement of forbidden romance," yunho whispers to mingi, "i'll just keep tacking on reasons why her and yeosang are superior."
"i'm gonna punch you in the mouth."
your phone buzzing on the table has your eyes traveling to the screen, widening when you see seonghwa's name pop up. you alert the boys he texted you and they both, even mingi who just talked shit to yunho three seconds prior, jump up and lean closer.
"what'd he say?" they ask in unison.
you swipe your phone open and you look up at them with wide eyes.
"he wants me to meet him at his car after school."
and when the bell rings at three, that's exactly what you do. nervousness floods through you almost immediately, sweaty palms and knotted stomach as you make your way to the parking lot. the only feeling of comfort you get is the five buzzes coming from your phone, undoubtedly from mingi and yunho who demanded to exchange numbers and start a group chat.
and that's when you see him, leant against the hood of his car looking ethereal in his change of casual clothes and windblown black hair. you stumble over to him clumsily, hands behind your back nervously as you approach him with a small smile.
"hi," you squeak out and his whole face brightens when he sees you standing in front of him.
"hey, little one. you feeling better?"
you nod your head, walking closer to him and crossing your arms over your chest. "much better. my headache's gone and my knee doesn't even hurt," you say, wiggling your leg out in front of you.
"that's good," he smiles, eyes catching your shoes before looking up at you. "i got you something."
"oh?" you squeak, bringing your foot back down. you watch him with cautious eyes at he smirks at you, opening his back door and ushering you over with his finger. you peak inside and your eyes widen when you see a red box in the backseat of his car.
"what...what is that?"
there's no way. he didn't. he wouldn't. like yunho said, you've only known each other for three weeks. he wouldn't get someone he's known for three weeks a-
"before you freak out...." he prompts, "i missed your birthday so consider this a present."
"you don't even know when my birthday is, seonghwa," you say, anxiety starting to bubble up in you.
"exactly," he says playfully, "so i definitely missed it."
and when he lifts the box, you nearly pass out because there lies the glossiest pair of black shoes you've ever seen in your life. they're simple flats, adorned with a pretty little bow just under the toe and they're absolutely stellar compared to the tattered, slightly deformed ones on your feet.
"this isn't funny," you squeak out, "how much were those?"
"it doesn't matter," he says.
"it doesn't ma- of course it does!" and your voice squeaks and raises a little more than you intended. but he doesn't look phased, almost as if he was expecting this reaction from you.
"y/n c'mon..." he says calmly.
"seonghwa," you whine, "you can't honestly expect me to accept these."
"why not?" he asks, "then they'll at least stop harassing you about your shoes."
and the look that crosses your face he must mistake as insulted or offended because he's quick to speak again.
"not that there's anything wrong with them, i just..." his eyes roam over your face and it's like he's desperate for you to understand his intentions were pure. "i don't want them harassing you anymore. i hate seeing you sad, y/n. but that seems to be the shit they always say to you so..."
you bite your lip in frustration because fuck even when he's making you mad, you can't be.
he meant well, you know he did, but it's too much for you. too much for barely knowing you, jesus christ he doesn't even know your birthday, and too much when your feelings are so up and down and your mind is also on someone else.
"are you mad?"
you resist the urge to frown at his question because he sounds so unsure of himself, something you haven't quite heard from him.
"no, i'm not mad," you say quietly, "but i can't-i can't accept th-"
"ooh-a ooh-a! y/n with her new ferragamo, she's a fancy girl," wooyoung's loud voice booms through the parking lot and seonghwa covers his face in irritation. you turn around to see him, san and yeosang making their way over, the latter boy staring right into you.
"cut the shit, woo," seonghwa warns as san saunters up to excitedly.
"do you like them, y/n? i spotted them."
"they're beautiful, san," you tell him, smiling softly before your gaze moves to seonghwa. "but i cannot accept them. is your mother the same size? i'm sure she would love them."
"what?!" san shrieks.
"are you out of your mind!" wooyoung yelps, "look at the damn ones on your feet right now and-"
you hear a harsh shushing sound come from yeosang followed by a pained groan from wooyoung; you can only assume the boy elbowed him.
"walk me to my car," his deep voice rings before he quickly drags wooyoung and san away.
"thank you, i really do appreciate it, seonghwa," you tell him and your eyes search his to see if he's offended in anyway. because you would hate if this hurt him but he honestly couldn't have thought you would..
he lets out a sigh, shaking his head as he looks at you with a twinge of wonder in his eyes. but no pain, no insult, just that ever present look of warmth. "i assumed you wouldn't," he says softly, "but i had to try."
"i'm sorry," you wince and he lets out a chuckle.
"you're not seriously apologizing after i just surprised you with shoes," he says and you let out a strangled giggle of your own.
"you're too nice, you know," you tell him and against your better judgement move closer to him to fix a piece of his windblown hair. "some would say i probably don't deserve it."
"yeah? and who's that?" he hums, "i'll be sure to have a word with them."
you let out a scoff, shaking your head as you roll your tongue over your lips. "be nice."
"i thought i was too nice," he teases with a roll of his eyes and you push him lightly before stepping a few feet back.
"i'll see you tomorrow? no shoes please."
"maybe just a jacket," he hums, a smile brightening his face when he sees you squint your eyes at him.
"tomorrow," he says and the way he's looking at you has your heart pulling in your chest.
because it's different from fluttering, it's the kind of pulling that's almost...painful. like your heart is physically hurting at the sight of him looking at you so happy and soft. like your heart knows what's about to ensue.
you pass yeosang's car on your way to the bike rack, your eyes meeting through the windshield and holding the same pained expression. because you both can only keep this up for so long, keep your secrets and crushing guilt away until it all blows up in your face.

I am constantly worried for a friend of ours that he doesn’t have a healthy relationship with this wife, or that his wife is somehow not... healthy for him. Like he seems happy and I don’t talk to him or them enough to have a good understanding, but the limited view I do have is setting up a bunch of red flags. My husband keeps reminding me that I need to relax and it’s not really my problem and like... they both seem to have trauma that they are trying to ameliorate and, like, fine, no therapy works the same for everyone and just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean it isn’t actually good.
I didn’t want to make this a long post, but I’m thinking about it, so I’ll post what I want to feel less crazy about and then Read More the rest.
He was talking about how he needs a job because they can’t really survive on her income alone. He said he didn’t want to get a job doing something like driving a truck because it’s hell on your body and you run the risk of getting in late. The example he used was he doesn’t want to get in at like 6am and not want to wake up his wife because she has to get up and go to work and she needs her rest so he’d have to sleep on the couch so he doesn’t bother her.
I have been going over this scenario repeatedly trying to figure out why this was.... one of the issues with it and like... my husband even asked on my behalf if the scenario was from our friend’s own compassion and not his wife’s idea of how that would go down. He was cool about it, which I thought was weird, and said of course, it’s his own compassion.
As a military brat and my father having driven a production truck, I cannot fathom the idea of being angry that my husband came home and woke me up to get into bed after a long, harrowing drive. I cannot comprehend the concept of not welcoming my husband into bed, cuddling and kissing and getting him warmed up in winter, spooning, and going back to sleep with my partner. It doesn’t make sense to me. And that our friend’s wife doesn’t also say WTF, babe, just come to bed! boggles my mind.
I’m paranoid, of course. Because we drove about an hour after this conversation to Costco and my husband told me, after like the 4th time I had talked this over with him, that I was something odd. I asked what he meant and he said I was a pretty consummate military wife/brat. I didn’t understand what he meant but, I mean, I watched my parents deal with both military and trucking.
But I guess how paranoid am I?
I said it would be short, Haha.
But like, our friend quit his job a couple years ago at the behest of his wife who said he should become a personal trainer. He got certified in it and everything. He quit before he had a new job despite our protests and then was unemployed for a while, turning to try to become something of a streamer while he was job hunting. Because even though she encouraged him to quit his job with his Tr*mp-supporter boss, they can’t really afford their lifestyle on just one salary. But also trying to be a streamer wasn’t happening so he was forced to be the only white guy at a construction job provided him by his abusive Tr*mp-supporter father. He got let go from that due to COVID and has been mostly unemployed since, after a brief stint as a face character at Six Flags. And now he’s learning code so he can get a job doing code because she doesn’t want to work and finish her degree and would rather just do her job that involves monopolizing his time and his computer. Her job requires some graphical work and his desktop is the only one powerful enough to help her do it, so he just... works on his shitty laptop doing minimal stuff on the internet like learning code from codecademy.
Where this ties in to my own personal traumas and I think I’m projecting onto him, is where my family would demand I get a job because, they said, they worried I would be able to make it in the world without them because I had no skills, no job, nothing and I would probably end up under a bridge if they ever died suddenly. Or maybe I wasn’t doing enough around the house, didn’t do the dishes often enough or didn’t keep the house clean enough and therefore I needed to do something to earn my keep because family of 5 fats can’t work on 1 salary and whatnot. So when people start demanding I get jobs, the only time I ever really looked for jobs was in A State after a big fight with my parents. I get like... triggered now whenever my husband is like Hey, maybe if we teach you Japanese you can get a job in Japan! Just immediately want to panic, get angry, and/or cry. So I worry that our friend’s wife is giving him a different kind of complex about jobs and work. Especially after she’s the one that encouraged him to quit his job, since she’s now pissy about the fact that he doesn’t have one.
But then there’s the small things like her being a manic pixie dream girl like coming over while he’s on a discord voice chat with us to say my husband is a Cheeto. When my husband is understandably confused, says he is like the Essesnce of Cheeto. Or when Classic WoW first dropped, our friend was trying to get back into it with us because it’s a bit of a unifying nostalgia game for our friendgroup, she kept showing up and being annoying in the background like showing up with their cat in a dinosaur costume. He even sounded mildly annoyed and asked her to stop because he doesn’t get to spend much time with us.
Which, you know, isolation from friends is classic abuse. But he has access to other friends that are not us. So its possible that she just doesn’t approve of his video game hobby when it involves us. Which, our friend isn’t a big fan of me personally, so I assume she might just be trying to save him from hanging out with me. I have achieved low self-esteem lately, having the clarity to replay interactions and say Ah, I was sounding real aggressive and bitchy, maybe that’s why people hate me. Or, in the middle of telling a story when I am met with silence, my brain works fast enough to say THEY CAN’T EXTRAPOLATE, YOU GOTTA FINISH STRONG, so I do and I get the laughs and I say I did it, I won, I’m going to get a good grade. But my sister also monopolized my time in a way that made it impossible for me to make or keep friends, and even got pissed when I was trying to make new friends because the friend I was trying to make was a guy that she was trying to fuck and my presence was a cockblock. Story for another time.
Or the time that our friend, because of his construction job, worked very early in the morning and thus was very tired in the evening. But his wife wanted to go to a screening of The Room and rather than let him stay home or maybe just don’t go, they went to this screening and our friend had to stay up for like 24hours. She’s the one that encouraged him to quit, pushed him into getting a new job, and then still asked to go to the movie knowing he was exhausted? Like... I wouldn’t have even considered it a possibility or I would ask a thousand times if he was sure or if he wanted a nap or something.
But, you know, I’m biased. I have a hard time being friends with women that are significant others of our friendgroup. I want everyone to be supportive and kind, into the same hobbies, willing to engage, maybe not be super weird. But I think I just want that in everyone. Which is probably my I have so few friends myself. I have high standards. I’m trying to lower those by being aware of them. Which means people like Amber are now counted among my friends.
Point of this post, though, is to ascertain my level of incorrectness. How wrong am I about their relationship? Lemme know.

City Of Stars - Erik Lehnsherr x Male!Reader
Fandom: X-Men
Pairing: Karmel Rosenstein (OC) x Erik Lehnsherr
Warnings: Swearing, Gay, Erik being genuinely happy,
Notes: Sorry I disappeared for a few weeks. Had a lower back injury thing that I won’t get into, and it led to me to not being able to go to school, sit down, etc, so I thought it best to take a break from writing until I got better. But now I’m back!! The song used is City Of Stars from La La Land- specifically the Hollywood Mix. No spellcheck, we die like men. Enjoy!
Karmel offered his hand to Erik, sunlight shining through the nearby window and into his dirty-blond hair. “May I have this dance?”
Erik scoffed, looking him up and down. “You may...but with what music?”
“You act like we’ve never danced in silence before, Ricky. If you’re that pissy about it, I could sing.” Karmel teased.
Erik took Karmel’s hand, pulling him a step closer. “That’d be lovely, actually.”
Karmel rolled his eyes, making the first move in their dance. “I call this one ‘City Of Stars’” he introduced. “City of stars, are you shining just for me? City of stars, there’s so much that I can’t see.” Karmel started, looking Erik in the eyes.
Erik quickly caught on. “By ‘city of stars’, you mean my eyes, don’t you, dear?”
“You’re no fun,” Karmel pouted, pushing Erik away with one hand, only to quickly pull him back in. “Who knows? I felt it from the first embrace that I shared with you,” he carried on, quickly pulling Erik in too close for comfort.
But close enough for Erik to place a gentle kiss on his neck.
Karmel closed his eyes, praising the moment for what it was before pulling away. “That now our dreams may finally come true,” he hummed, glancing out the window and over the direct view he had of Genosha. Karmel smiled softly, knowing that that lyric was more than true. Would he have liked his current status to have just a few altercations? Yes, definitely, no doubt about it- and Erik knows this, obviously. But Karmel’s the happiest he’s been in ages, and he feels that’s good enough for him.
“You’re thinking about it again, aren’t you?”
“About what?”
“You know what I mean, dove.”
Karmel’s lips formed a line in response. “I mean...yea, but- but it has nothing to do with you, so don’t even try to start on that shit.” He pointed at Erik, other hand cupping his lover’s cheek. Karmel’s thumb stroked the side of Erik’s face, in comfort. “I love where we’re at, right now, I really fuckin’ do. But you just...gotta give me a bit of time to adjust. I went from living like- like- like, you know how I lived, I don’t need t’explain again. To living on a remote, forest-y island. I went from Gatsby to General Zaroff, kinda, uh, basically. That’s a huge shift, compared to the multiple shifts I’ve gone through for the past few decades. You can’t really expect me to not be homesick of an old home, can you?”
Erik leaned into Karmel’s touch; he understood. “I suppose not.”
“E-Exactly, I’m a- I’m a bitchy kid, a privileged, rich, white guy who’s been handed everything and everything good on a silver platter since birth. I even had my shoes shined when I was a baby. I sound hella spoiled for missing that, so, like...I’m sorry.” Karmel shrugged.
“It’s alright, Karmel,” Erik whispered, taking Karmel’s hand in his own. “I’m just glad you’ve been enjoying this life so far.”
“I’m all over it.” Karmel agreed, that typical yet excited puppy-dog look on his face. “Anyway-” he cleared his throat, returning to the moment at hand. Slowly he began to dance with Erik once more. “City of stars, just one thing everybody wants,” Karmel chirped, pointing two fingers at Erik’s celestial eyes. “There in the bars, and through the smokescreen of the crowded restaurants. It’s love, yes, all we’re looking for is love from someone else,” he and Erik spun around the room, features softening down when they were in each others’ gaze.
Erik’s heart beat pitter-pattered down to a calm pace, being as he had the one thing that calmed him down, right here in his arms.
“A rush,” Karmel raised his eyebrows, “a glance,” he shyly glanced down, still not being able to handle Erik’s gaze for too long. Similarly to when he first met the man. “A touch,” Karmel’s fingers grazed Erik’s shoulder, followed by spinning Erik as he sang “a dance.”
“A look in somebody’s eyes, to light up the skies” Karmel looked up at the roof, which the sky hid, just above. He was sure that when Erik was born, a piece of the sky was taken, broken in half, and stored in his lovely eyes. Karmel wouldn’t take anything else for an answer; nothing else was a logical enough of an explanation to explain why Erik’s eyes were as ethereal as they were.
Deep, moody sometimes, clouded with the darkest of storm clouds when he was upset. But on the off-chance of Erik being in a good mood, his eyes showed it more than any feature on his body, Karmel knew this. They’d shine like the finest rhinestones, set perfectly into their sockets. One glance from Erik alone could tell a thousand stories that even the most articulate of authors could go out of business- in the same vein, Karmel feels that if he was to write about Erik’s eyes, it’d be a book series’ worth of run-on sentences. Erik’s eyes are one of his, if not than just his, most striking features. So very blue, that even the seas surrounding Genosha couldn’t compare, not in a million years or a billion universes. Erik’s eyes are more easy to get lost in than any maze or labyrinth imaginable, no matter how far and wide it could be. Erik’s eyes are the seventh wonder of the world, something to get prominently lost in the pages of history books. His eyes are something that should be seen by everyone, but Karmel rightfully wants the gift of seeing them all to himself. They give him such a high that weed has never given him, they’re his light, his map, his compass, he could make an altar for them and praise at it everyday, begging for salvation.
Karmel clearly had a lot to say about Erik’s eyes. But to Erik’s face, he’d never say it. “To open the world and send it reeling. A voice that says ‘I’ll be here, and you’ll be alright’.”
“You’re the voice? Don’t deny it.” Erik muttered, shaking his head.
Karmel nodded proudly. ”I don’t care if I know, just where I will go, ‘cause all that I need’s this crazy feeling. A rat-tat-tat on my heart,” he crooned, tapping his finger on the left side of Erik’s chest, where his heart lay underneath. Karmel took Erik’s hand and dipped him smoothly, repeating his earlier chorus of this ballad about his beauty: Erik. “A glance,” he glanced away, “a dance.”
Erik pulled Karmel closely in his grip, never ever wanting to let go whenever he did. He’s had many opportunities in the past to be greedy about whatever he’s ever wanted, but he’s never been more greedy about anything except Karmel. This was something proven to be quite hard to do.
Karmel’s from a long line of aristrocrats, the Rosenstein name being spoken of almost as much as any famous Tinseltown celebrity. Someone as rich and famous as a Rosenstein heir- especially one like Karmel- is hard to keep all to yourself. It’s like guarding a museum artifact, basically: sure, you have it protected in a glass case. But it’s a museum artifact, people are obviously going to look at it, talk about it, read about it, and know it exists. Erik is Karmel’s protective glass case, and the museum visitors are anybody in the world who know of the Rosenstein name.
In recent years, Erik know’s its been easier to be greedy over Karmel. Safe on their remote island filled with mutants, Grimm kicking it in the Rosenstein estate back on America’s mainland.
Karmel repeated the earlier verse following the first chorus, tapping Erik’s heart when that line came to once more. He sighed silently, exploring Erik’s facial features as if it’d be his last time to do so. “City of stars, are you shining just for me?” Karmel smiled expectantly. “City of stars...you never shined so brightly.”
Erik giggled, looking down for a moment.
Karmel’s and Erik’s dance slowed to a stop, their synchronized breaths filling the silence in the air. “Well?”
“Well...” Erik met Karmel’s eyes. “You really did waste your talent away in that library, Karmel.”
“Oh, come on!” Karmel exclaimed, playfully rolling his eyes. “Fuck off.”
“Karmel-” Erik laughed, kissing his nose. “The song was wonderful, Karmel.”
“Oh, so fuck the dance, huh?” Karmel joked.
“Karmel-”
“I’m joking” Karmel grinned. “I’m glad you like it...I love you.”
“I love you too, Karmel. ‘Til the end of time, remember?”
Karmel nodded obediently, spinning the ring on his left hand. “Even then, Erik, you’ll still be mine.”

Iceberg Week Day 2-First Kiss: Hell of A View
[Vacuo. Shade Academy. On top of this tapestry-laced school was a balcony overlooking the desert Kingdom just outside of Headmistress Theodore's office.
Ruby Rose and her friends hadn't expected the desert winds to be so refreshing compared to the bloody winter they all went through back in Atlas. And yet, they were still having to assume the worst, given how General Ironwood had betrayed the party. Who knows what Theodore had in mind for them?
Of course, reunions were in order as QROWBYJNRM were more relieved to see Teams SSSN and CFVY with their arrival to Vacuo. So far, so good, as Blake had begun rekindling her relationship with Sun. Ruby and Jaune had been given leadership advice from Coco. Yatsu and Fox had a wicked workout session with Ren and Nora, to name a few.
But one that had been off the books for a while was Weiss and Neptune. When they last saw each other, Weiss had been nearly pummeled by a Paladin-290 on the Beacon campus, and Neptune had, unfortunately not gone for saying hello to Weiss after recent events. Instead flirting with Blake's friend, Ilia, not knowing she was a frigging lesbian.
Sun had given Neptune an appropriate slap upside the head for not asking for clarification. It was a good thing they just had a group chat just before their friends arrived in the Kingdom about his ladykiller shtick, since it wasn't a major issue. But…It could’ve given people a bad impression not just of Neptune, but of Team SSSN altogether.
Needless to say, it had been a bit of a doozy to have Neptune chatting with Weiss again, even though they were long past the whole Team NDGO flirting fiasco in the middle of Vytal.]
Neptune: Whoever this Salem is, she sounds like a real pain in the ass.
Weiss: Like you wouldn’t believe. The girls and I could hold off Professor Lionheart, but General Ironwood and his whole drone fleet? No thanks, I'd rather be doing Father's paperwork.
Neptune: How's the rest of your family doing after the invasion?
Weiss: Mother was in shock by the time we found her. Soon as she recovers, she's gonna head into an anonymous alcoholics group. She was about to have a drink when we found her, but soon as she heard Grimm coming, she threw down the rest of her vodka, set it on fire, and held them off with my grandfather's machine gun.
Neptune: Holy shit!
Weiss: *grins* I know, right? Mother was ready to chase them down herself, had it not been for Ruby blasting them first with the Silver Eyes.
Neptune: Winter?
Weiss: *frowns* Wounded in action. Since the General was going off the deep end, President Baum had to step in and put her on medical discharge since Ironwood had basically been going insane.
Neptune: Whitley?
Weiss: Pretty much refusing to accept that Father worked with a bunch of known terrorists associated with Salem. He's basically shut us out since we barely managed to save Atlas, but since Jacques has been officially disowned by us, he's refusing to speak.
[The ex-heiress sighed, now angrily clenching the railing on the balcony as she seethed about that memory. Neptune said nothing, knowing that she was in no mood for reassurances or the like.
Neptune stood back further from her until Weiss looked up with an interesting question to distract from the negativity of the topic.]
Weiss: Neptune. I wanna know why you came to me during First Year.
Neptune: *raises eyebrow* Huh?
Weiss: You know, *faces Neptune* why you were coming onto me. Why you…Look, it's why you seemed interested in me.
Neptune: Oh! Uh, that…Yeah.
Weiss: Did you want to talk about it?
Neptune: No, not really.
Weiss: Well, I'm curious since it's been ages since we last saw each other.
Neptune: Uh…You seemed different from the other girls I tried to hit on. You were intelligent, talented in a lot of avenues I wasn't. Singing, your combat style, that kinda thing.
Weiss: *expression softens* My talents?
Neptune: Yeah. You were a lot more elegant than me. I was just kind of a klutz who was better off with a railgun. I wasn't just going for your looks, Weiss. I respected who you were, but you seemed a little tense. Like a workaholic. I can be one, too, but with where you came from you sounded like you could use a friend. Not just a boyfriend, but someone who appreciated hard work as much as you.
[Weiss gasped. Her face reddened at his compliments as she placed a hand on her heart.]
Weiss: *blushes* Neptune. Were you…Valuing me?
Neptune: *horrified expression* Oh Gods, I- -I didn't mean it like that. Yeah, I valued you. But I didn't know you were a big deal! You're a noble- -Well, you WERE a noble who wanted to be a Huntress. I'm just a commoner who happened to be leagues ahead of my peers since I was better at fighting and building stuff outside of running my mouth.
Weiss: No-no-no, it’s okay. I guess I didn’t really know how to feel about your flirting at first. I appreciated it. Really, I was used to being valued by other boys for my wealth for so long that I never really considered how anyone else thought of me. That is, until the night when Blake split off from our Team and I realized how bitchy I was being.
Neptune: And I flirted with most girls I saw just to hide my own insecurities. That's why I hit on Team NDGO, because I didn't want the crowd to think I was a loser or something. They weren't really in front of me to judge me, though. I just wanted to entertain them! I wasn't doing it to offend you, Weiss! And then Ilia showed up and- -! *sighs* Gods damn it!
[Neptune had expected her to leave him for the day, since it's been close to a year since they saw each other. Surely, his lack of confidence still wasn’t enough for a young woman as talented as her. What else did he expect? Weiss could still be a damn perfectionist.
But the Huntress had taken one of Neptune's fists. She un-clenched the fist with a brief chilly touch from Myrtenaster, transferred over to her dainty palm. Nep recoiled at the icy jolt as Weiss put both of her hands to his. She gave a soft smile to calm him down.]
Weiss: Neptune. We were just kids at the time. You don't have to prove anything to me to try and be friends with me again. It's been a year, and we've both got our own missions. You, the boys, and Team CFVY have the Crown and it's remnants to deal with. I'm helping Ruby and Ozpin fight Salem. I wouldn't mind remaining friends with you now that we're adults. Okay?
[Neptune was shocked. Of course, he knew that Weiss would forgive him at some point, but so soon after a year? Okay, Remnant was on the brink of the apocalypse. But he didn't think it'd take that for their reunion from earlier in the week to bring it up.]
Neptune: Well...Maybe this is good enough as an adult now?
[Before Weiss could ask what he meant, she was greeted with a kiss. She practically melted in his embrace as she felt her hands reach his stomach and chest. The kiss eventually broke as Weiss looked up, confused but not even angry as they were both attempting to process what just happened.]
Weiss: What the hell was that...?
Neptune: Oh, crap. I'm so sorry, Weiss! That wasn't- -! You said that- -! Please, tell me it's not- -
[Weiss shut him up with a kiss in return. This time, he was taken by surprise as she used a white Glyph to help her up. Standing on her tiptoes for good measure, Weiss got the drop on Neptune this time as she embraced him around his neck. Neptune, meanwhile, embraced Weiss from her backside while running a hand through her shortened hair for the Vacuo mission.
They had been lost in the kiss for a solid minute as they felt their Auras glowing from how connected they felt. Halfway through, their tongues briefly met as they danced around each other. No moans were had. But pure bliss.
Weiss deactivated her Glyph, setting herself down as she had the biggest smirk on her face from Neptune's flabbergasted expression. They kissed! They honest-to-the-Gods kissed! And Weiss had finished it for them. Whaddya know.]
Neptune: *blushing, holding his cheek* Ah…A-Are we even?
Weiss: *smirks* Oh, we're even alright. I gotta go meet with Theodore and the others now, but when this war wraps up. Don't find me, you sweet boy. I'll find you. *winks*
[While she said this, Weiss highlighted one of her legendary legs and gave her ass a brief shake. She bid Neptune farewell for now as she headed to the Headmistress’ office. Neptune's reaction…Welp, read for yourself.]
Neptune: …She likes me! Ha-ha, she likes me!

haunted house thrill ride minus the haunted house
Last night my brother, his wife, and me both left rather late to see if we could make it last minute to a haunted house an hour away from where we live to Ft. Worth, TX. People might already know the attraction called Cutting Edge, as its been going on for years now - the last time we went to it was 12 years ago. We wanted to see how it was now, and it has a somewhat decent rating. We remember there was bubbles at the end that COMPLETELY soak your clothes and nearly smothers you, so we checked reviews to see if they still had it. It does, but there’s a bubble-less route so you can avoid it. But, the end of this review had us curious.
(Parking was 15-20$ we read on the website, too.) Anyway, we drive down there. Immediately get sad spotting the homeless population taking up entire large sidewalks as we enter downtown. Arrive at 12:15, and the attraction ends at 1am. We knew there’d be a line since it was a semi-chill night thats good for big crowds. Buuuuuuut we weren’t expecting to see around 500 people ass-to-ass wrapped in a tight line in the parking lot 45 minutes till closing. So we said “Fuck that shit, lets find a cool late night dinner place while we’re in down here”. Regret. My brother remembered there was some ice cream place they went to while they were here some time ago down some main street. Quickly figured out that street was closed off, like some parade/party just recently happened, but there was nothing but a bar open down the street and a security golf cart picking up cones. We figured we could get on our feet and walk further down the street to see if we could find it that way, as there was a lot of hidden buildings. So we park the car, get out, and go to a street corner to look around. Across the street, we saw a woman face-down against a curb to a shop, totally looking like a dead body. Two men were slowly trying to help her up to get in their car. The three of us looked at each other like “Uh oh” and looked back behind us down the street if there was possibly more fucked up people like her, of if someone else was noticing us watch that. Then we heard a scream, and the woman was sprinting full speed out of the parking lot. She stopped suddenly and the men ran over to her, and then she started laughing loudly instead. Okay. Hopefully...............she was just on drugs............????? And then the two men had to lift her like a couch back into the car. We stared at each other again and said “Okay time to go!” and then nearly stepped in vomit on the sidewalk as we turned back to our car. But it doesn’t end there!!!!!!!!!!! We were still starving, so we googled some late-night diners nearby instead. It was either ramen or this place called Ol’ South Pancake house (you can google it if you want). The website makes the place look cute and homey. Our decision to go there was solely placed to get chips and salsa based on what my sister-in-law read on the website, but I think she read the wrong thing. We get there. Pretty crowded. The air inside smelled like cigarette smoke even though it was a non-smoking store. There was a group of eight people in front of us COVERED in fake blood, probably(hopefully) from the Cutting Edge place. A very..........interesting looking waitress hobbles over to us after them to seat us at a table that would make claustrophobic people explode. Then we get......her. The other waitress. She seemed like a sweet elderly woman, at first. Not white hair, but grey, and pretty in-fit for her age. We asked about the salsa, and she squinted at us and said they only had potato chips (which is probably true). We looked at each other and ordered some fried pickles instead. She then nodded slowly and said “Surrreee thiiiinnnnng,” and then gave my brother a face similar to this.
So we’re probably going to get food poisoning. The pickles were good, at least. While we were eating, a group of college-age people sit next to us. One guy was in normal clothing, while his two other friends were in costumes (another guy and a woman). Chucky, the killer doll man, was next to me. The two of them were veeeeerry obviously on something. My first interaction with Chucky was when I was drinking coffee, a red wig suddenly landed in front of me. “O---OOOPSSSSS!” Chucky said next to me, grabbing the wig and dropping it several more times. Our trio just laughed awkwardly. He then tossed it behind me in my chair, and thats when his stable friend said “Hey bro what the hell are you doing, man?” Which, I think, prevented Chucky from groping my ass, and he quickly grabbed his wig back. Then he and his costume GF (assuming) got up to go to the bathroom. They cut through the open kitchen and we could see the staff get startled. While that happened, an old man walked into the section of the diner that was blocked off. We were confused as hell, but another waitress started serving him food in there. Maybe they knew him or something, who knows. But. Do you know where that cut-off door looks out to for the old man to watch?
Haha, it’s to us! Making direct eye contact to me at all times!!!! Oh boy!!!
So now we have a guy with possible dementia over there, and Chucky and his GF come back (through the kitchen, AGAIN) on our right. A staff member comes to their table saying they need to not go through the kitchen ever again. The sober friend is obviously dumbfounded but does nothing but giggle and shake his head. THEN the GF gets up and leans to our table, saying “What are you guys doing tonight?” completely in our personal spaces. Sister-in-law leans back to her to quietly say “What are you guys on?”. The woman kind of shakes her head and replies “Oh just weed. Just a bit of weed.” Smiling HUGE while saying so, but also in a bitchy way. Chucky encounter #2 happens. While his GF was leaning to and fro, he hissed right into my ear, actually making me jump (but not scream). We all laugh awkwardly again. At this point, its better to deal with them than start a huge commotion and possibly make them rage, because the people around us are already keeping an eye on them for all of the shit they’ve stirred already. #3. Shortly after he says “I’m Chucky, the killlleeeeerrrrrr....” and starts pretending to bite the air next to me. That quickly turned to him trying to bite my shoulder. I barely felt anything, and tried to keep inner peace until his friend yelled at him again to stop. There was no teeth-sinking, but I felt a wet mark after he stopped. My brother said he looked like this.
Well. We finally got our food. I got steak and eggs, my brother got a burger, and sister-in-law got a pancake thing with peaches in it. Right after the teeth waitress placed the pancake thing down, she suddenly said, “Wait, there’s no butter on this! You gotta have some butter on it to make it good!” What does she do to solve this, you ask? Simple!
She takes our silverware, takes a plastic cup container of butter from our condiment rack, and starts going to town stabbing and smearing the butter into the once-nice looking pancake thing! For a full 30 seconds in silence! “There you go!” she says with her full rack of fake teeth, and walks away. My brother had to laugh behind his napkin while she was doing it, and so did I. #4. A pancake suddenly lands on my plate after I got done eating the obviously once-frozen steak. Chucky said nothing this time, but his sober friend just shook his head. But after Chucky tossed his last two pancakes on our table, sober friend tried to stop him - in doing so, sober friend accidentally pushed his own plastic cup of cheese on the floor. “Awwww man, look at what you made me do bro!” He sighed seriously. Sober friend then asked teeth waitress where his bacon bits where at, and all she did was look over at their own condiment rack and pointed, “Right there,” and walked away. Sober friend didn’t only spill his cheese, but he spilled his bacon bits onto the rack, too. Costume friends got up to walk outside after that, and we sympathized with him saying “Damn, she’s brutal.” Oh, and by the way, dementia man has still been staring at us the whole time. We’re completely done eating now, and whisper to each other “We need to get the absolute fuck out of here.” We pay at the entrance/exit, and walk outside. What we see is what we believe Chucky and his GF fucking in their car parked to the side of the store. The windows were steamy and only saw his head sticking up. “Time to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!” I chanted again, as we got back in our car. Dementia man walked out of the diner after us, but luckily, he didn’t see what car we got into. It still doesn’t end there. We cut through the empty streets back to where we got into the city. It was 3:40 am at this point. My brother saw a cowboy sitting at an empty light corner. GOTTA LEAVE! Five minutes later we enter the expressway. Three minutes go by. My brother is cranking up the music to stay awake for the hour long drive back home. But then I see it. Something bright down on the highway below us to our left. We’re passing by and my brother doesn’t notice. “F...........fire. FIRE. THERE’S A FIRE.” “WHAT?”
He stops on the completely vacant road and we back up a little to see it. Yup. Thats a fucking burning car.
We camped there for about 10 minutes until even one cop showed up, then finally a firetruck. Normal people pulled over initially to direct traffic with the flashlight on their phones. All four of the tires popped loudly as they burned. And while the hose was dousing out the flames, a semi-explosion happened. Sounded like a firework, and was very bright, but nothing shattered and debris didn’t rain down anywhere. We finally decided enough was enough and we got the fuck out after the flames got controlled. I’m happy to say we made it home safe without any other bullshit occurring to us. But What. A. Fucking. Night.
#long post#I'm not putting this under a read more#originally from twitter but how the fuck am I writing this on there
