The Chain Meets Your Baby || 1/2
Part 2 ||
Pairing: Hyrule, Time, Wild, Four x Reader
Requested by @kieradumpzz081927: I hope your request are open(or if ur free for requests), so i saw ur LU oneshots about the one that is called ' He becames a dad ' or smth. So, why not that he would introduce his kid(s) to the chain? That ones going to be interesting Interesting indeed 😈Now, I have my own set of headcannons for what order the Chain becomes dads in, but regardless of their own experience, I'm sure the Links would all subject the new dad to lots of support and teasing. Here you go 💜 Warning: Some mature jokes here and there. Nothing major, but gotta give the new dad a little hell, right? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The last thing Hyrule was expecting to encounter during his village visit was his old traveling companions, the other heroes of courage. Then again, life has been full of surprises lately and it wasn't like he didn't already know that the portals between their worlds are still active. It was only a matter of time before their paths crossed again and honestly, it couldn't have aligned more perfectly.
Happy to see the rest of the Chain again, Hyrule takes the liberty of inviting them back to his home so that they can properly catch up and not be the subject of so many judgment stares from villagers. Throughout the short trip there, the group’s laughter is vibrant as they detail accounts from their recent adventures, soon turning it into a friendly competition of who has the craziest stories.
This conversation stays well alive all the way from their first steps outside of the village gates to the second Hyrule opens the door to his house, at which point the spirited teasing immediately dies off into a stunned silence.
“Oh! Hello again!” You’re just as pleasantly surprised to see the boys as your boyfriend had been, your smile more than welcoming as you turn around to greet them, yet they’re less focused on you and more so on the small infant you cradle in your arms.
“...I think the Traveler wins,” Wild mumbles, his disbelief shared amongst the rest of the group who merely nod distractedly.
“Right! I forgot to mention -” Hyrule excitedly hurries to your side before turning to his friends with a thrilled smile, “- This is our daughter, Hope.”
“You just casually forgot to mention you have a kid now…?” Legend narrows his eyes while pointing to the kid in question. He should probably be more annoyed with Hyrule’s tendency of always skipping over important details, but honestly he’s just too shocked to process it right this second.
“Well, she’s only about a month old. Being a dad now takes some getting used to,” Hyrule defends, rubbing the back of his neck timidly, but when you pass your daughter over to him, he shows practice in the way he gently holds her securely to himself before approaching the boys to properly show her off.
Despite their surprise, they’re eager to crowd around him, each wanting to get a good look to ensure this isn’t some clever joke you’re both pulling on them. Fluffy head of dark wavy hair…A little button nose…Sharp pointed ears…Yep, this baby must be yours. She looks exactly as one would imagine the product of Hyrule’s sex life to look like…
“...Geeze. She’s adorable,” Warrior awes, practically leaning over Legend who elbows him back with a glare.
“Isn’t she?” You preen.
“She’s strong, too,” The Vet acknowledges with an unamused pout. He had made the mistake of holding a finger out to the baby only for her to grasp it in an unwavering grip. His attempts at pulling away are fruitless, not that he’s actually trying that hard. Maybe he even likes the feeling of his heart melting just a bit.
“Congratulations. You two must be very proud,” Time praises kindly, having already felt the joy that comes with being a parent himself. He can recognize it in the way Hyrule and you affectionately watch your giggling baby with a pleasant glow surrounding you both.
“We very much are…”
Tumblr media
Muffled commotion outside alerts you to the fact that you have visitors long before they stumble into your home, not even bothering to knock as their excitement gets the better of them. Now, any other day, your husband would be quick to scold such ill-mannered behavior, but fortunately for your guests, he's in far too good of a mood to let it be soured.
So, instead of acknowledging the Chain’s less than graceful entrance, Time immediately rises to his feet with a proud hand left upon your shoulder, "Everyone, we'd like you to meet Saria and Mallory."
The young heroes are in awe as they crowd around the bed just to get a look at the small bundles held within your arms. Sure, they've seen babies before, but these are Time's babies. For many of them, the complicated concept of love alone had once seemed out of reach for any hero of courage, yet here the Old Man is, hitched to a lovely wife and now the lucky father of two adorable daughters. It's an amazing accomplishment, really; one that has the entire Chain feeling happy for him.
"They're so little," Hyrule whispers, scared to speak any louder out of fear he'll accidently wake them.
"They inherited their dad's nose, poor things," Warrior jests, throwing a smirk Time's way.
"They'll grow into them," Rather than take it personally, he chuckles while carefully taking one of the girls from you. Despite having only become a father a few hours ago, he's already a natural at handling them. Ever so gently - as if handling the thinnest of glass - he cradles his daughter to his chest and fixes the tiny hand-sewn blanket around her; a gift from her godmother, Malon, of course.
"You'll have your hands full with twins," Four remarks prudently.
You sigh at the thought, your head thrown back against your pillow, "Ugh, we know…”
Although you’re visibly tired after having undergone hours of stressful labor, you still look upon the baby in your arms with nothing short of pure admiration, clearly having no actual regrets towards having either of them. In your eyes, twins just mean all the more love to give.
"Nothing we can't handle," Time promises before getting a mischievous glimmer in his eye while casually extending his sleeping baby out to Twilight, "This one is Mallory, by the way -"
"- W-Wait -!" The Rancher is immediately caught off guard by it, yet his objections are ignored. Time drops the baby into his arms anyway, practically forcing Twilight to take her, not that he truly minds. A natural around children himself, it takes him only a few seconds to adjust the baby comfortably in his hold.
Blind to the other boys who hover around his shoulders, Twilight's eyes are locked in amazement upon the tiny bean who scrunches her nose and whimpers quietly before soon settling down…To think, this small infant no more than a few hours old is a relative of his. He can't help but wonder how closely related they are. How many generations between them? Three? Two? Maybe even just one? It's a strange thought to consider...but also a very comforting one, too.
"...She's a real beauty, isn't she?" Time asks softly with a strong pat to Twilight's back. The only reply he gets is a wordless nod and whimper as the teary eyed Rancher sniffles.
Tumblr media
What kind of horrors do they need to prepare themselves for? That's the question that rings through every hero's head as they approach Wild's home. They're concern only grows when - as if sensing them - the Champion suddenly appears in his open doorway with an ear-to-ear grin greeting them...Not the most comforting sight seeing as they've come all this way under his vague request.
A letter had been sent to each of them only giving the minor hint that there’s a certain 'surprise' he can't wait to show them, and with someone as chaotic as their accident prone centenarian, the Chain has every right to be anxious about it.
Even as they all crowd outside of his home, Wild refuses to add any context, instead maintaining his mysteriously upbeat aura before finally stepping aside to allow them in. It's only then that the heroes realize what his 'surprise' is, welcomed by the sight of you as you stand there matching Wild's grin while holding an unfamiliar baby in your arms. She can't be much older than a few weeks, judging on both her tiny features and the obvious bags under both of her parents’ eyes...
"You have a baby?!" Wind screeches with delight, not wasting a second to race to your side.
"Her name is Mikan," Chuckling, you kneel down to let him better see your pride and joy. It isn't long before you're surrounded by most of the heroes who are immediately taken by your daughter's cuteness.
"When did this happen?" Time inquires through a raised eyebrow, one of the few Links who had remained by the door with Wild.
"Uh, she'll be three weeks old tomorrow," Wild answers, his hand darting up to rub the side of his neck. He knows that isn’t exactly what Time meant, but it’s the easiest answer.
"I didn't think you -..." Begins Twilight quietly. Although he ultimately cuts himself short, the curious look he gives his successor wordless finishes what he might've said.
Nodding slowly with some hesitation, Wild bows his head while looking back over to you. There's a fondness in his eyes as he watches you carefully pass your daughter over for Wind to hold, "I know what I said before. I...I didn't think this was something I could have - something I could want this badly, but...Well…I probably don’t need to tell you how it is…”
Twilight pats Wild’s back with a knowing smirk, indeed understanding. He’s happy to see his friend finally accept the peaceful life he deserves instead of continuing to run away from it, after all, Twilight has never been blind to the curiosity and faint jealousy that would shine in Wild’s eyes whenever listening to the other heroes talk about their families. He’s been long overdue to have one of his own.
"Hey, just one question," While Wind is busy cooing and rocking your daughter, Four turns around to address Wild once they finally join everyone else, "Did you really name your daughter after a fruit?"
Wild's cheeks flare in embarrassment, "I - It can be a pretty name, too!"
"I'm actually the one who chose it," You confess sheepishly, taking the attention away from your partner, "I was really craving tangerines throughout the whole pregnancy."
"At least it's a somewhat normal name. I was half expecting you to name your future kids something like 'Biscuit' or 'Curry'," Legend snorts.
"...We did consider picking 'Sage'.”
Warrior laughs heartily before throwing a hand over Wild shoulder with a suggestive wiggle of his eyebrows, "Can we expect that to be the second child's name then?"
"Woah, woah, woah - Let's settle down now, gentleman,” You immediately scold while also taking the chance to save your poor partner by pulling him away from the onslaught of teasing he was about to endure, “One baby at a time. It’s not easy carrying those things, just ask your wives!”
Tumblr media
Four has been off into his own little world - That is to say, he’s been both distracted and extremely tired; a terrible mix, but hey, it’s nothing he hasn’t dealt with before. Despite his eyelids feeling like bricks, he remains awake and alert, arms folded across his chest as he sits in the bedside chair keeping watch over your sleeping form.
You need the rest more than him anyway. Your husband has been through some pretty fearsome and ravenous beasts in his time, yet your work last night easily trumpeted every hell he’s undergone himself. Best to let you sleep unless he wants to change that statement.
A series of echoed knocks send Four bolting through the house, hissing a curse under his breath before tossing the front door open with plans to scold whoever’s on the other side, yet he’s stunned into silence when he realizes it’s no poorly timed mailman, rather the very friends he had invited over…although, they did come a lot sooner than he thought they would…
“WE’VE COME TO SEE -!”
“- SHHH!!!” Four nearly smacks a hand over Wild’s face.
“- …The baby…” Wild finishes with a whisper and a grimace.
Four quickly ushers the Chain inside, allowing them to make themselves comfortable with STRICT orders to keep the noise level down. Yes, their early visit may not have been exactly anticipated, but Four holds no ill feelings towards it, in fact, he’s rather smiley while leading them to the nursery.
“Here they are,” He practically sings, eagerly looking inside the large crib as if he, himself, still can’t get enough of its contents. He has every right to be infatuated, “These are my girls~”
Although Four is bubbling with joy as he admires his little creations, the rest of the Chain stands by with wide eyes. Some even take the time to count each baby just to confirm that they are, indeed, seeing triple. Inside lies three little newborns, each fast asleep after having about as stressful of a day as their parents.
“We’re thinking of naming them Marigold, Amber, and Camelia. You know, keep to the color theme and all…”
“Damn, three of them, huh? You didn’t hold back at all, did you, Smithy?” Warrior observes aloud, much to Four’s instant lack of amusement.
“They’re so cute~” Wind coos, Twilight having to pull him back before he accidentally falls into a crib again.
“I suppose it’s a good thing I brought some of the twins’ old stuff then,” Time hums, his smirk holding a hint of sympathy. Needless to say, he doesn’t miss those early days of juggling babies himself, as much as he loves them dearly.
Four preens at the attention his daughters get, however his smile falters when he notices Sky sticking to the very back of the group, awkwardly rubbing his arm and chewing down on his lip. Four frowns.
“...I’m sorry. We should’ve waited until we told -” He keeps his voice down as he joins the older hero who is quick to shake his head and muster his best smile.
“- No, no. We’re happy for you both. Really…” Despite the sorrow stuck in his voice, Four can tell Sky means every word of it, even the sighed: “...You’re a very lucky guy.”
“...I am,” While there could be more said, he realizes now might not be the time to discuss it. Not with so many new babies in the room.
“No wonder you wanted us to be quiet. I can barely handle one newborn at a time, let alone three at once?” Legend mumbles half to himself, his finger gently cresting one of the baby’s chubby cheeks.
“You know, if you ever find your house getting a little too quiet, you can always babysit -”
“- No way in hell. We already have our hands full as it is.”

I would not be able to shut up about Zelda lore. I'd be mentioning the Links the Chain hasn't met yet, or how Ganondorf's hair keeps getting longer with each iteration, and especially the timeline! I'd be turning to Legend and Four and saying that according to Nintendo, they're a bunch of Links conflated together (Four Swords before Time and Adventures after Twilight what???) and then turning to Warriors to say that his game isn't canon to the timeline. SEND HELP
Literally same. I swear I would be the most annoying person ever. I'd be telling them about all the fan theories, giving them all an existential crisis. (Because IMAGINE if Wind found out some people don't think he has the hero's spirit. Or if Sky found out some people think Demise's curse is the reason every other Link had to deal with Ganon.) This was going to be a short little blurb but... yeah you get a whole two pages. This is what you get for feeding my hyper fixation, anon.
“You know about all our adventures and the impact my actions specifically had on the timeline.” Time’s face was unreadable. His usually serious demeanor had a much colder edge to it. And it was directed at you.
You take a breath. He had been a bit stand-offish when you had joined the group. He had been upset when you spoke about how the chain’s adventures were games in your universe. You suspected he began outright avoiding you after that. You had thought there had been an unspoken but mutual understanding that his games were something not to be spoken of. Nothing could prepare you for this conversation, especially with the rest of the chain within earshot. Still, he had spoken to you. Directly to you. Which was progress, even if the subject matter was… this.
“Yeah.” You try to seem nonchalant. Your voice crack ruins the effect somewhat.
“Explain, then. Knowing how we,” Time motions to the rest of the group, “all fit together might help us face the creature we’ve been fighting.”
“Oh, that might get a bit complicated. Some of the games y’all appear in aren’t canon.” You smile nervously. “And some of you guys seem to be multiple games combined? Like, you have two games, and that makes sense because Majora’s Mask was meant to be a sequel to Ocarina of Time. But, for example, in the official timeline The Minish Cap and Four Swords take place before the timeline split, while Four Swords Adventures happens after it, even though all three games seem to be Four’s adventures.”
“Wait, what?” Four perked up at the mention of his name. “How does that make sense? I used the Four Sword about a year or so after my time with the Picori. How can those two games have things between them?”
“Hoooo boy.” You pressed your lips together, trying to summon the restraint necessary to give a tactful answer. You looked at Time, then Four, then at the rest of the chain, whose attention was focused solely on you. Screw it. They asked.
“The company that created the games, Nintendo, published a book with an official timeline in it. The timeline begins with Skyward Sword, after which Sky and his Zelda kind of found what will eventually become Hyrule and *ahem* start the royal family.” You ramble on, choosing not to comment on the way Sky chokes on his own spit. “Then, the Minish Cap happens. And according to Nintendo, the next game, Four Swords, has a completely different Link. After Four Swords, the events of Ocarina of Time happen, where a TON of time travel shenanigans happen.”
Time coughs. You keep talking.
“During Ocarina of Time, Time defeated Ganondorf as a teenager. His Zelda then sent him back in time to prevent Ganondorf from ever getting the Triforce in the first place, but this didn’t erase the other timeline. Thus, there are two timelines: Time’s original that he was removed from and the new one where Ganondorf was never really an issue.”
You get out a stick, drawing lines in the dirt to illustrate your point.
“Now, in the timeline that Time left, Ganondorf eventually came back. That’s what set’s up the events of Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass. Also in this timeline is a game called Spirit Tracks. The Link from that game isn’t here, but Wind’s Zelda’s granddaughter is that Link’s Zelda.”
“WAIT WHAT?” Wind shouted, temporarily snapping you out of your rant. Oh shoot. How long have you been rambling? You turned your attention to Wind.
“What’s up, sailor?” You point at him with the stick in your hand, as if you were a school teacher lecturing on a subject and not a gamer with way too much free time.
“Tetra had KIDS?” Wind scrunches his face up, as if disgusted by the thought of his best friend reproducing.
“Yes, that is how grandchildren work.” You tap your stick against the end of the line you had drawn. “Anyway, that’s about it for that timeline. As far as I know, Wind stabbing Ganondorf in the face actually killed the guy for once.”
“Wait, WIND is the one who actually finished off Ganon?” Legend pipes up.
“Why do you sound so surprised!?” Wind fires back indignantly.
“MOVING ON!” You shout, redirecting the group's attention back to you. “In the timeline Time went back to and fixed, he has another game, Majora’s Mask. He then settles down and has a kid, who has a kid, etc. etc., then we get Twilight and his game, Twilight Princess. Time is kind of a dickwad in that game, but we don’t have time to unpack that.”
“Hold on.” Time puts up a hand, trying to stop you from continuing. He looks… extremely worried. Twilight looks as if he just swallowed a frog.
“Nope, moving on!” You use your stick to quickly lower Time’s arm. “Twilight actually also killed Ganondorf, but the bastard went and got resurrected. Vaati also shows up again randomly, and that’s how Four Swords Adventures happens.”
“What about me and Legend?” Hyrule raises his hand politely.
“Ah, you guys are from a timeline where Time died in his final fight with Ganondorf.”
“I’M SORRY WHAT?” Twilight and Time shout at almost the same time.
“Yep. That’s what started the Sealing War. Time’s Zelda and the sages sealed Ganondorf away. Then we have Legend’s games, which have two different orders, both of which were published by Nintendo. It either goes A Link to the Past, Oracle of Seasons/Ages, then Link's Awakening, or Link’s Awakening, then Oracle of Seasons/Ages.”
“Why the different order? Doesn’t ‘Nintendo’ know?” Legend smirks, as if he had won against this strange other-worldly company that had reduced him to a child’s game.
“Well, they published the first version, but because Link’s Awakening was the last game for you, fans thought you died at sea.” You explain. Legend’s smirk disappears as the color drains from his face.
“Anyway, according to Nintendo, the next game is A Link Between Worlds, which is a different Link. After that, it’s Hyrule’s games: The Legend of Zelda and The Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. Then that’s it for the downfall timeline.”
“What about me?” Wild sheepishly points to himself.
“Nobody knows. Nintendo says they’re after Four Swords Adventures OR Spirit Tracks. Personally, I think after FSA makes more sense, but we DEFINITELY shouldn’t get into theory territory right now.”
“I’m guessing my game is the same? No clear timeline placement because of all the different timelines mixing together?” Warriors rolls his eyes as he says it, as if annoyed he doesn’t have an official timeline placement.
“No, actually. Your entire game was more fanservice than anything. Nintendo doesn’t even consider it canon.”
“WHAT?”

Guys
I was thinking up some dark world forms for the lu cast and came up with some good ones plus backstory and reasons supporting my choices
I wanted to keep them all as mammals for the continuity (legends bunny and twi's wolf are both mammals) and its just easier to create limitations for myself to be more creative!
((and i tried to pick animals that existed in their original games,
But some games ( zelda I & II, I'm looking at you ) didn't really have any passive animals to choose from, so i'm following this rule only for some/most of them))
here are the results: ( warning: very long)
Twilight:
Wolf
(kinda obvious, no explanation needed)
Legend:
Pink rabbit/hare (he seems more rabbit/hare then bunny in my mind?) but i thought, what if i had to choose a realistic animal?
I think he would still be a rabbit, but an albino rabbit, his eyes red and with white fur, at least thin enough that you can notice a little pink from his skin to have a slightly visible pink-ish hue.
Time:
(ghost?) Wolf; i think being a ghost wolf after death, he probably still have the same form when he was alive too?
he never uses it in any game he's in (like Oot or Mm) other then Twilight Princess (taking place after he died)
I couldn't find any better leads or clues suggesting any other form, so I'll stick with this, maybe for a realistic animal he would be some kind of like timber wolf ( just a big kind of wolf) that is a golden/ light brown colour with white underbelly.
Hyrule:
(the idea that created this list in the first place...)
Sheep!; the sheep would have brown wool like Rulies hair, (my hc is his hair is curly, or at least wavy, like a sheep, but anyway) he's innocent and quiet like a sheep, and the main selling point: the blood of a lamb. Lambs blood was often used in (very) olden times, on an altor as offerings to God.
(also link in these games was originally religious ( specifically Christian), and the lamb is a religious symbol( Christian at least))
Hyrules blood is sought after by Ganons underlings as a way to resurrect Ganon, using hyrules blood as an offering / way to resurrect ganon, the reincarnation of a god, in a ceremony on an altor.
Wind:
Winds animal was a harder one to choose because there arent much mammals in his games, other than the ones you dont see but are mentioned or hinted at existing still even after the great flood.
Cats, think about it, he makes those cat meowing noises when hes stalking that girl at night in Wind Waker., so they must exist for him to know what meowing is ( there might actually already be a cat in one of his games but i never played phantom hourglass (😭) and haven't seen any in my playthroughs of Wind Waker)
Supporting facts to back up my reasoning: He was taking a nap during the day, even if it was his birthday. Big black eyes that are vaguely cat-like, and just the generally goofy feeling i get from him in-game and especially LU. ( HES SO SILLY AND CUTE AND AAA-)
Wild:
Highland Fox; sometimes people chose a deer for his dark world animal form, while i think it fits, i wanted his form to have more resemblance to Wolfie (who is in Botw, as a companion) sort of a cool representation of his mentor/guide?
Foxes and distinct enough but also close enough to fit the bill of 'close enough' (and foxes are more on the dog/wolf side than cat side, apparently)
Also, highland foxes exist in Botw + Totk, and the bright orange of their fur is similar to Wilds blonde hair, in its bright, almost unnatural boldness, opposite the lush green of the landscape.
Warriors:
Lion; fights in groups, lion mane is like his blue scarf, golden fur is like his hair, you know that like personified stereotype that lions are egotistical and self centeredness? reminded me of him.
sorry for the short answer, i don't know much about Wars, never played *any* of his games (😭😭😭) so I'm just going of LU, and the majority of what people portray him as in the fandom ( I DON'T OWN ANY OF HIS GAMES NOOO-)
Sky:
Remlet; Sky seems to like them, their native to his home, Skyloft, and they nap all day. They are cute and cheerful, and when their angry, they can be vicious and frightening, like Sky.
Realistic animal: Siamese, they share lots of similarities with remlets, their light brown and dark chocolate fur match and the bright round eyes are identical to a remlets.
Four:
i would've chosen Picori, but thats not really an animal, thats a whole race of small centient beings! so I'll have to go with a chipmunk.
Small, lives in forestry, multiple different colours, has a tail like minish, dexterous small hands good for holding things, smart, agile, and similar in shape to Minish.
woah. just let my acoustic ahh ramble for a second there.

𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓒𝓱𝓪𝓲𝓷 𝓗𝓮𝓪𝓭𝓬𝓪𝓷𝓸𝓷𝓼- 𝖕𝖆𝖗𝖙 2
Part 2!! This will include Hyrule, Four, and Legend ₍ᐢᐢ₎
Warnings: mention of scars and negative mental health
Please read with the warnings in mind, this one is heavier in terms of mental health topics.
⋆。°✩
𝕳𝖞𝖗𝖚𝖑𝖊
About 18/19, a couple years after his journey is done
Average height, his build is still toned but more on the leaner side because of height and anatomy
light freckles across his cheeks/nose and skin is tanner than the rest of the boys
Has 2 small cartilidge piercings, small silver hoops
Part fae, I know a few others headcanon him as fae too I just think it suits his character
Speaks and writes Hylian well, takes a bit longer to read though (he's trying his best)
Closer to Legend, they're the downfall duo :3, but also close to Sky
I wanna say he's like one of the last few boys to feel attraction towards Y/n. Fae bonding to humans is weird and Hyrule doesn't wanna freak you out and needs to really process it.
When he realizes he fell for you? Oh boy. Definitely more clingy and obsessive and frets over your safety, more than Sky even.
Major sweet tooth, favorite food has go to be spoonfuls of honey
Keeps a journal, lots of sketches and notes on herbs and flora and some thoughts on Y/n
Has a.... difficult relationship with Hylia/Zelda/the Goddess
Knows about some of Legend's past, not as much as Y/n though
Has a large scar on his lower stomach from Dark Link, and faded white scratches on his back from a past incident that I may or may not bring up later down the line
Do not let him near a cooking pot. Don't do it.
𝖋𝖔𝖚𝖗
Our favorite smithy is about 18-19
He may be short, but don't let his height fool you. Mr. swordmaker here is built. You think all the hours hammering away at metal don't build muscle? You'd be wrong
Anywayss, I headcanon Four as having heterochromia, one eye green and the other a dark blue.
Has the lightest stubble, hardly noticeable because he shaves it everyday
Recently has also started tying up his hair in a pony tail, so he honestly looks like a younger Time from far away
Has lots of ear piercings and stacks rings on his fingers, most of which he made himself from spare parts. He made a few rings for Legend and Y/n
Develops feelings for Y/n slowly, though it hits him like a brick after the Yiga clan incident after realizing how close he was to losing you
Has a few scars on his hands and arms, a few burn marks from reckless accdients both in and out of the blacksmith shop
Has a tattoo of the Four Sword on his forearm
Ironically enough, close to Wild and Wind. He's keeping a tally of how many swords Wild has broken So far it's 46
Similar to Wild, he kinda has shaggier hair, though its only really visible when his hair is fully down without the headband
REALLY GOOD AT SHIELD SURFING FOR SOME REASON-
𝖑𝖊𝖌𝖊𝖓𝖉
19, slightly older than Four and Hyrule
Average height, leaner build, and I wanna say he's on the paler side. He gets sunburned crazy fast like no amount of suscreen can save him
Pink hair, duh, but its more faded than it was when he first shifted into his rabbit form. It's more like leftover on his bangs and on part of his head.
Pinky is decked out in rings, every single finger is stacked with rings for functionality, protection, etc., but some he just thinks are neat.
Double pierced lobes, a few cartilidge piercings, maybe even a Hylian-equivalent of an industrial and has a dick piercing shh
Does not like wearing pants. no sir. Only if absolutely necessary.
Can speak/write Hylian and Lorulean pretty well, though pretty rusty on the latter because he hasn't used or read it much since his adventures
Like the 4th person to develop feelings for our protagonist, he's a little lost to be completely honest. Part of him wants to succumb to his feelings, the other is terrified of losing someone again
Close to Hyrule, Wild, and Wars ironically enough (mostly because of the bickering :D)
Keeps a scrap of Ravio's scarf in his bag, holds it sometimes.
Has a deep long scar along his forearm from a fight, some burn marks from the fire rod. He also has other scars that he doesn't show or discuss, those are difficult to talk about. He wasn't in a good place after.... everything.
Snarky and grumpy, but he softens up around people he trusts. He just needs time and love ₍ᐢᐢ₎

Doubts and Surprises
My first post and Zelink oneshot on Tumblr! Hope you enjoy! I loved writing this one :)
Ship: Zelink
Warnings? None!
Zelink master list <——- my other one shots! :)
///////////////////////////////
Zelda didn't know why she was here.
Her father and his advisor, Tarak, were having what seemed like a private conversation (might as well have been) with herself being the topic of discussion along with the utter doom that loomed above Hyrule. One that she was reminded of every second of every day since she was six years old. She really tried to ignore them and think of something to take her mind off of their words but she couldn't.
Her green eyes focused on a tapestry in the far corner. The triforce was elegantly sewn into its dark blue fabric. Why did everything have to be a constant reminder of her failures?
She shifted her feet from side to side, her dress restricting her movements. Her hair itched the back of her neck. Her shoes pinched her toes. And the soles of her feet hurt.
"I think it would be beneficial for the princess to continue her training," Tarak's voice sliced through her thoughts.
Red filled Zelda's vision and her fists tightened at her sides. Training always ended with nothing but disappointment and failure. She knew it, her father knew it, and the people of Hyrule knew it.
"I agree." King Rhoam's voice carried through the throne room.
Of course he would. Zelda couldn't bring herself to look at her father. The King of Hyrule. She knew he meant well but he did a really good job of being a king instead of her dad. With Zelda's mother's passing, she had no one to teach her the ways of Hylia's sacred power. But the amount of training and praying to the silent goddesses gave nothing in return. Nothing but a boiling resentment that fueled Zelda's inner turmoil.
Did he not have another plan? Nothing to go off of? Clearly the last 11 years of training with nothing to show for didn't faze her father.
"She is scheduled to visit the last two springs. They are our last hope," Rhoam mentioned.
"Either spring will likely spark some power." Tarak added.
Zelda bit her tongue, nothing good would come out of arguing with either of them. Neither would listen to her. It always ended in flames when she argued with her father, she didn't need the both of them coming at her.
Her fists tightened with every agonizing second. How long had it been? At least a half an hour of them referring to her in third person. Would they even notice if she left?
Tears threatened to sting her eyes, she would not cry. Not in front of them. She needed out. She needed— Her eyes caught a familiar shade of blue, the champion's tunic. Her breathing stopped short all together when she met Link's ocean gaze. He was stationed by the wall with the master sword strapped to his back—something she used to despise with all her being but now it reminds her of him. He furrowed his brows slightly as he glanced between her and the King behind her.
That's right. He was here. She wasn't alone anymore. Oh why had she been so cruel to him before?
Maybe she could sneak out with him or come up with some excuse. She knew he would take her away from everything if she asked, which was unrealistic considering their circumstances and duty but Zelda still wished for it. It took everything in her not to run to him then and there.
He tilted his head slightly toward the door—-he must've seen the pleading in her eyes.
"Please be off with your training, Zelda." The golden haired princess never guessed she would be somewhat relieved for her father to say those words, though they still made her grit her teeth. Why did he ask for her in the first place? To listen to someone else drone on about how she should continue her sacred training? To have a second opinion? As if she didn't get enough scolding from him.
"Of course, Father." It took everything in her not to spit the words towards his neatly polished boots. She felt like a child all over again.
She spun on her heels and descended the steps—fighting the urge to sprint down the stairs—to meet Link. Her safety.
"Please escort her, Link."
Link didn't need such an order, he was already holding out his hand for her to take. Her fingers wrapped around his own and he led her out.
Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry.
Her other hand flew to her mouth as she heard the doors close behind her.
She didn't know where to go, but she didn't have to. Link tugged her down the hall without a word.
—————————————————————————————————
Zelda's shoulders relaxed as she breathed in the fresh air of the castle gardens. The sun rose high in the sky with little clouds to cast away its warm rays. Her ears twitched as she heard bees zip between flowers and birds chirp in the trees. She had to admit, the castle crew had really outdone themselves with the garden grounds.
Her blonde-haired knight guided her towards one of the benches covered in peppered shade.
Her throat tightened, she wanted to cry for an entirely different reason. How can he be so thoughtful? I don't deserve it.
"Thank you, Link." She reluctantly released his hand and took a seat. Her heart sped in her chest, had she really held his hand the entire time?
He nodded once and gave her a slight smile.
"Do you really think the princess can do it?"
Zelda's shoulders tensed at the new voices. She turned her head to glance behind her. There were two guards strolling through the gardens, their armor clinking against their weapons.
"That's what the King says. If she listens to him we should be fine." The other replied to his comrade.
"I don't know. I've heard talk around. People have lost hope."
Their voices muffled as they rounded the corner towards the courtyard.
"I'll be back," Link said, his voice quiet. She flicked her gaze to him and her eyes widened.
"No! Link you don't have to talk to them. It's fine. They... have a right to doubt me."
"How can you say that?" he questioned.
"What?" Zelda didn't stop her mouth from falling open.
His eyebrows were knit together as he stared at her.
Her hylian ears drooped slightly and her voice cracked with despair. "They're right, Link. All I do is train and it's not enough. We're going to lose this war and it's going to be my fault." She shook her head as her tears fell. "How can you even look at me? A-and be so kind to me still?" She covered her eyes, she didn't want to see his reaction to her questions. "How can you not despise me? I can't even wield the power to aid you against him. I would doubt me too."
I do doubt me. She could almost hear her words out loud.
His boots tapped the cobblestone pathway and ended in front of her. She felt him grasp her hands and lower them away from her tearstained face.
"Prin... Zelda." The sound of his soft voice made more tears spring to her eyes. She didn't deserve his care or his kindness. She was a princess born to a throne of nothing. "They don't see how much passion you have for your people. For them." He sat down next to her. "You're amazing and they shouldn't talk about you any other way. You're doing everything you can. More than anyone... Please look at me."
She lifted her eyes to meet his blue ones and he continued. "You cannot disappoint or fail me... I'm... nothing but proud of you. I... I could never despise you."
Proud?
Her hands dropped to the bench as she stared at him with wide eyes. She couldn't remember the last time someone told her that. Maybe since before her mother passed. She also couldn't believe Link said so much in one minute.
Link's eyes went wide. He cast his gaze to the ground, blush flushing his cheeks. "A-am I out of line? I apologi-"
"No, no!" Zelda reached out to place a hand on Link's arm. He whipped his head toward her.
"Thank you. I didn't realize how much I needed to hear those words." She wiped her eyes furiously. "I-" She let out a breath. "Thank you," she repeated.
"Always," he replied quietly and gave her a smile.
Zelda smiled back and let her hand drop.
They sat in a comfortable silence, listening to the trees rustle in the light breeze.
"I don't know if this is the best time..." Link's voice never ceased to startle her, she was used to him being so silent. But she was happy about his newfound courage to speak. She thought it was silly but she hoped it was her that had something to do with it.
Her curiosity grew as he reached into one of his pouches, she leaned to the side to attempt to get a peek at what he had.
He pulled out a small screw and held it out for her to take. Zelda gasped, it was one of the guardian pieces! She carefully grasped it from his hands and stared at it in awe. Her father never let her near them, even less work with the ancient parts themselves!
"I found it at the training grounds for the guardians while walking back from patrol. No one was around to give it to so I... kept it..." His hand came up to scratch the back of his head. "You always talk about the guardians so... I thought..."
Zelda let a grin overtake her face as she stared at him.
His eyes caught hers and his hand froze, his face flushed with pink. She found it to be the cutest thing ever, the usual ever stoic knight blushing at his words.
"Link. This means everything, thank you."
"I- sure." He nodded and dropped his hand. She wanted to kiss him then and there.
"No really thank you. For everything you do. Even when you don't have to." For a silly moment, Zelda wished it wasn't because of his duty to her. But sometimes she thought any other appointed knight wouldn't do half the things Link does for her. Sure he protects her, that's a given. But even when it was his duty, she felt—hoped that deep down it was because of something more.
"I want to," he said simply with a shrug.
Zelda smiled again. Maybe everything would be okay. With the calamity, her training, the future. As long as Link was there she knew she could do it. With him by her side and hers by his.

Linktober Day 9
Deity
*sneezes after downing coffee* Well irl stuff got in the way so I'm way behind my original schedule for these and for Linktober but here we go with another arguably short one, fuelled purely by self indulgence, headcanons, spite against my linguist essays that kept me from keeping to schedule, severe sleep deprivation, a shout out to the Ender Lilies soundtrack and Majora's Mask soundtrack, and Nintendo for not clarifying anything about the lore so I'm snatching what I can and making it my own lol. Look, when you fíxate so much on details the Zelda team doesn't elaborate on you have to fill in the gaps with what you can.
As always can be read as romantic or platonic, technically in a LU context but not explicitly in it by itself.
The Lord of the Mountain liked hearing people sing.
In a way, it wasn’t a surprise, Hylia and the Golden Three each had their ballads and symphonies and minuets, each splendid and with cuts of their divinity in it, Farore was fond of lightning and forest alive minuets, and you could swear Farosh sparked just a bit brighter when one would him the beginnings of the Minuet of the Forest near their spring, Din was fond of boleros, fiery and alive and howling with the echo of flame touching earth that made a shine run through Dinraal’s scales, Nayru, in contrast, was much fonder of blizzard and river quiet serenades, the songs of contemplation at first snow ringing clear when Naydra curled around it’s spring, content to be free of Malice.
And of course Hylia had her ballads and lullabies, perfectly fitting to her display of divinity, of honey days and vast bird like wings, of ambered summers to come and to pass and dazzling solar storms of starlight and sunlight sparking through the human form of her descendants and heroes. So in a way, you weren’t surprised at all that the Lord of the Mountain – Satori, with a familiar touch of londsleite divinity, the hunt of the woodland beasts and diamondscar adoration for the Hero of the Wilds, similar in glory to the Light Spirits petrichor and vermeil fondness for the Hero of the Twilight – liked to listen to people sing. What you were surprised was how it attempted to follow along, it’s head across your lap the second you sat down in the clearing, a gentle hum on back of it’s throat, an owl’s cry and a cicada’s humming and faintly, chirring purring as presses it’s faces into your hands, a gentle request for petting.
It was adorable, even with the faint notes of the chill of clear spring water on winter and the livewire feeling of magic, like holding your hand too close to a flame but not quite touching it.
A low chuckle brushes against the back of your mind, a feeling like biting on ice, the prowl of a wild beast and the build up of lightning and light used to create his blade, the amused affection of a warrior reconvening with their brother in arms, you think you see the bone ivory of the Deity’s hair on the side of your vision, though you know he’s not physically there, ‘He likes you.’
You hum, gently patting behind it’s ears, pushing through the chill, gracefully not mentioning the burning with a smile at the mythic being’s faint chirring, birdsong and the wind through cherry blossoms that sparkle like rose quartz, “Well I quite like him too, I can see where it’s gentleness comes from.”
The ghost of a touch over your hair, the caress of lightning striking over your skin and the hair on the back of your neck pricking up and the crisp cold of winter, the chill of the ending and the flame of a new dawn, of new days, the phantom of magnolias and spring water on your tongue. The fragrance of pine, daffodils and blood soaked lilies on ashen fields on your senses, gentle and careful, marking but not claiming, ‘Only because it’s you, beloved. It’s not something easily given.’
You sigh, shakily composing yourself, you let yourself relax into the phantom sensation. Of hopes and dreams and healed suffering, of the divinity of hunt turned into protection and lightning given form, of tangled timelines and crystalized memories, “I know. It does not change my opinion, either way.”
To be the subject of a god’s care and regard was dangerous, after all. For the human and the deity in question, you know the stories from your world well, of the effects of Hylia on First and Sky, of Twilight and the personification of the Twilight Realm and the spirits of his land, of Wild and clawing from death’s embrace into that of the wilderness.
Knew how the fact the Fierce Deity’s mere proximity causing pain on those who changed him into hunting for hunt’s sake into protection for the sake of someone else cut deeper than even the ever encroaching entropy all beings must one day face. It was no wonder the Song of Healing was his creation, to want to ease the burden.
You gladly grant him some peace, in turn, even if it wasn’t much. It’s the least you can do, for always having his ways of watching over your heroes.
“Join me? We can make a duet.”
You feel more than see him shift, ephemeral, fleeting, gentle against the edges of your existence, as foreign to Hyrule as your own, sparking over your spine as you feel ozone and rust on your teeth. Satori is humming again to match the rumble of thunder in the man’s voice, the heralding of songs of war and elegies for the dead, ‘Of course, though I’m afraid I do not know many songs, besides…’
“It’s alright,”, you smile faintly, there’s a white ocarina in his hands, as he leans, a spectre against your side, “I’ll teach you some of my own, though you’ll have to forgive me if I don’t remember all the lyrics.”
‘It would be my honor to learn.’
You think he smiles, from the fluttering of something ancient and long forgotten against your side.
You sing to Satori and the Chain, a small respite of familiar and forgotten tunes, the Lord of the Mountain hums along. The Fierce Deity’s song cutting through any nightmares that may ail your heroes for another night.
When the dawn of a new day comes, the feeling of divinity against your skin feels just a bit more obvious, sinking into every crack of your being like a shroud, falling over your boys like a veil, reflecting the breath of eternity over Hyrule.
(First gives you a look that’s half exasperation, half understanding. Sky pointedly sticks to your side as Time looks you over, markings deep with vibrant color. You shrug with a helpless smile as you feel the lightest brushes of Hylia’s fond days of gold and starlit summers days against the Lord of the Mountains warm, luminous affection and the Fierce Deity’s smug, but content lonsdaleite smile.)

i feel like no one mentions how after the events of totk zelda either changed her entire fashion choice due to the events that happened, or she only dressed in zonai inspired attire because it reminded her of rauru and sonia and that was her last thing she had to hold onto them :P
got me thinking this because zelda cut her hair super short after the events of botw, so maybe she had a whole attire change or she did her hair differently. maybe she grew out her hair again in tribute to rauru and sonia :/
Tumblr media
i mean you cannot tell me she didn’t grow out her hair or keep on wearing her earrings because of sonia
this girl was probably drawing so much too

Okay, unsolicited ask because you said it's okay: where did the idea for Captain Link Araki come from? What inspired your characterization for Link? Zelda?
Thank you so much for the ask about Captain Link Araki, my beloved pirate captain. He’s a wonderful mess of a man 🤣🤣
Wind Waker was the third LoZ game I played and it’s so different from all the rest. First, pirates! Second, WW Link (aside from SS) is one of the most expressive. He’s so goofy and earnest sailing around the Great Sea in his rinky-dink ship, King of the Red Lions.
But a pirate captain needs a first mate.
I really love Link’s and Groose’s relationship in Skyward Sword. I wanted to expand on that with the idea - what if they were pirates and best friends? Level-headed Groose became reckless Link’s voice of reason.
Link is a mash-up of three characters - Han Solo/Luke Skywalker (Star Wars) and Faceman (A-Team)
Zelda is the perfect foil to him (a la Princess Leia) a tough, strong-willed woman who is more than capable of taking care of herself and isn’t going to be easily won over by a pretty face and smooth words.
(Who am I kidding? Star Wars had a major influence on this story. There are a ton of references scattered throughout.)
Captain Araki began as a short scene I imagined of Link and Groose scoping out a tower to rescue Zelda per her long-lost father’s request.
Below the cut is the first draft of the scene that was the catalyst for Captain Link Araki and the Harbinger of Destiny
Link casually leans against a nearby wall, shielded from view by a cherry tree’s drooping branches, heavy with pink blossoms. In the distance, he spots an ivy-covered tower with a red and gold flag.
Groose finds Link and hands him a skewer with juicy, tender grilled meat. “This the place?”
“Maybe.” They eat silently, and Link continues observing the tower's ground level. Movement on the balcony catches his eye, and he nearly chokes on a large hunk of meat when the appearance of a beautiful, golden-haired woman sets his heart racing.
“You okay, boss?” Groose slaps Link on the back a few times.
“Yeah, yeah, cut it out!” Link swats Groose’s hand away. “Geesh!”
Returning his gaze to the woman, who may or may not be the princess, Link can’t take his eyes off her. Despite the downcast look of her eyes, she’s breathtakingly gorgeous.
“That has got to be the princess, and the old-timer failed to mention his daughter is beautiful.”
“Well, she was just a baby the last time he saw her.” Groose points out, not sounding as enthusiastic as Link feels. Are they looking at the same woman?
“Semantics.” Link waves his stick toward the balcony. “Beautiful baby equals a beautiful woman. Things just became a lot more interesting. Rescue her and find a priceless treasure? It’s a win-win, Groose.”
The first twelve chapters of Captain Araki and the Harbinger of Destiny are available to read on AO3.

Headcanons for the Links.
Sky
A very tired badass.
He has type 2 narcolepsy- it is mild enough that it doesn't cause too many issues but unfortunately other than trying to sleep he can’t do much for it.
Loves big birds. His loftwing is his favorite living being other than Sun so there is some affection for bigger birds that comes through. Through their journey he gets introduced to a bird that resembles a Shoebill and just spends hours watching them.
One of the best swordsmen.
For reference this is a Shoebill
Tumblr media
Time
Uses verbal speech to communicate now that he has grown up and had a chance to move past some of his trauma, however when he is alone with Zelda/ Sheik they typically use only signs.
Only puts up with coocoos for Malon.
Find’s Wild’s Koroks to be incredibly amusing especially when he learns of their pranks.
Has what they can figure out about the timeline and their places drawn out in a book he keeps with him.
Warriors
Third oldest of the group- he is only about six months younger than Twilight but refuses to admit it.
Can’t understand Koroks language but he understands and is great with all kinds of fairies.
Actually has three of the same scarf. He pretends to be completely attached to it like it is one of a kind but almost always has a spare in his bag.
A one of the best swordsmen of the group.
Totally uses his scarf to fight people. - he is constantly tripping and smacking enemies or the chain with it when he fights/spars.
Legend
Actually loves getting his hair done and dying it but since meeting the captain and teasing him he has to be subtle about his appearance.
Enjoys trading little knit knacks and items with Wild.
He is actually pretty close with Sky and enjoys just existing with him during breaks and at camp before they go to bed.
Twilight
Great Horseman. Before his adventure he was a great rider but during his adventure he became great at fighting while on Epona.
He can cook basic things like meat skewers, he knows how to make pumpkin soup but it is completely different from the one from skyloft and because of this he and Sky fight over which one is better every time someone suggests pumpkin soup.
Sometimes forgets that he could turn back into a person to do tasks. This leads to Time and Four being extremely confused after finding him trying to open doors or the buckles on a bag with his paws.
Wind
Loves to braid complicated sailor knot like braids into those with hair long enough- i.e. Four, WId, and legend.
Before the chain's journey he was a terrible cook. He still isn’t an amazing one but after helping Wild cook usually at least one meal a day for months he has learned some valuable skills to show off for his grandma.
Is amazing at throwing daggers. Learned to win a bet again’t Tetra and has been improving ever since.
Hyrule
Terrible cook because he is half fairy. His fairy side mixes things up between what would taste good for hylians and what is full of magic/ good for fairies.
Pyromaniac. He loves a good explosion but none of the Chain believe Wild when he says Hyrule is responsible for half of the explosions they cause.
Amazing artist. His cave is covered in paintings made from ash and plants that depict his adventure or his nightmares.
Four
Has the urge to tell the chain about how he is made up of four people at least once a week in the beginning.
Contrary to popular belief he actually enjoys working with Wild to teach him more about weapon care and making a weapon he can’t break.
Constantly knocks the knees out from under Warriors, Twilight, and Legend. Not because of short jokes but because he enjoys causing chaos like every reincarnation of the Hero’s spirit and seeing their faces as they go down is too priceless.
Wild
His world has soul paint, and he is covered in it but none of the others have it or can see it and it sometimes leads to awkward moments where he mentions some of the colors and the others just stare at him.
One of the best swordsmen out of the group. He was beating full grown men as a child and he had months for his journey to remember/ relearn.
Open book about the basics with the chain but most of his journey/ life is kept very private.

One day they will make a 3D Zelda with hair that doesn't mildly bug me.
I love Zelda, I love so many aspects of her character designs. She's such a cool character. But her hair consistently breaks my immersion in a way that many other characters just don't, so I am compiling a silly little list.
My credentials for this are the fact that I am a person with long hair who dabbles in hairstyling and I like doing my hair with braids and ribbons. I am also in theater, and purveyor of historical hairstyles.
This is a very unserious and rambling rant, so please bear with me! No shade and no harm meant. This is me having fun.
Alright, down to business.
CATEGORY 1: NO BUT SERIOUSLY, HOW THICK IS YOUR HAIR? OFFENDERS: BOTW/TOTK Zelda
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That is a thicccc braid she's got there, but she simultaneously has long flowing hair (botw) that would need to be incorporated into the braid, OR her hair is shoulder length (totk) and you cannot physically make a braid that looks like that with hair that short. ALSO, the braid is very thick, starting from the crown of the head, while not incorporating any hair around it?
It looks like a fake braid headband (which is, I believe, what most cosplayers end up using). If you reeeally wanted to give her a headband, you could use a circlet or a ribbon.
Which brings me to...
CATEGORY 2: PHYSICS DEFYING RIBBONS OFFENDERS: SS Zelda and TP Zelda
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really do not understand this design choice at all. Ribbons are used to style hair in the real world all the time, but the only way I can conceivably see these ribbons staying in her hair is if they're made of velcro, or they're sticky. Either way, sounds painful. (Cosplayers how do you pull this off? I'm assuming glue?) Now, hair wrapping using string, ribbon or fabric is a common practice in many parts of the world, but you need strong tension, a full wrap around the hair, and these wraps usually begin at the scalp. An artist friend said that this was likely a way of getting around having to render braids. Which, fine, I am not an artist, but then why not just have those two locks of hair falling forward like normal? All you need to do is delete the ribbons. And if you insist on having that splash of colour, maybe you could give her some earrings or something?
CATEGORY 3: THE DE-BUTCHIFICATION OFFENDERS: OOT Zelda, Tetra
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I have no issues with the respective hair of any of these characters. My qualm is the immediacy of the transition, and the resulting sudden new length. Because I guess Zelda has to be super femme and that means she has to have long flowing locks when she transforms out of her pirate outfit/masculine sheikah disguise, so no more short hair for you! (Also, you can't be cute and femme and have melanin, apparently?? But that's a whole other issue...)
(And despite my beef with the overly chonky braids, I must give kudos to totk Zelda for righting this injustice. #shorthairzeldarights)
HONOURABLE MENTION: I REFUSE TO BELIEVE YOU CAN FIGHT IN THESE CONDITIONS OFFENDER: AOC Impa
Tumblr media
I just had to include this, because I otherwise love the design for Impa in AOC, but the way I feel about this hair is similar to how most of tumblr feels about boob plate armor. You mean to tell me that this highly trained, stealth and combat expert fighter would wear her hair this long and this loose, when she is often in melee situations where someone grabbing and pulling your hair could absolutely be deadly?? Nah. (She also suffers from the same "how is your hair so thicccc??" issue as AoC/BotW Zelda)
Anyways that concludes my very silly rant. I will again add the disclaimer that I know dick all about character design, I just know how to style my thigh length hair with ribbons and braids. If you disagree, or you have any that I missed, I welcome your thoughts!

Bonding Over Dislike: Revali x Reader (Pt. 1)
Tumblr media
You couldn’t help the glare in your face every time you saw Link and Zelda leaving the castle. You had been trained since birth and had a long bloodline of knights yet the short hylian was assigned to her.
Call it jealousy but you were quick to denounce every fault and mistake he made.
Which is what you were doing currently.
“Come on! Fight!” You shouted, twisting your spear into his wooden shield and ripping it from him. Your piercing eyes burned through him.
“You have trained. And yet, every time, you manage to fumble.” You sneered haughtily with despite the fact you were about to double over with exhaustion.
“It is your job to protect the royal family. I know of the pride you should take in this duty. But I do not see it in you.” You lowered your hand to Link, lifting him slightly before shoving him back down. “And I do not think I ever will.”
You were training late at night, many broken and dull spears laid scattered about. You hit the dummies with all the rage you had, regret of your treatment of Link building. But then a voice rang out from your soul, justifying your behavior.
“Excuse me,” you heard a familiar voice call.
You turned and bowed, “Princess Zelda, what can I do for you?”
“Why do you dislike Link?”
You were surprised as you rose to meet her eyes, “I’m afra-“
“He looks… sad when people mention you. I am sorry if I am wrong in my assumption but do you not like him?”
You thought, “It’s- Well, I don’t mean to come off as… insulting with what I am about to say but,” you looked at her. Seeing a friend now, not the princess, “I know I could do a better job but of course, divine intervention denied me the chance. It is not personal, as a matter of fact, if he wasn’t what I was born to be, he and I would be friends.”
The silence was long. You felt the sweat drip from your forehead, you wiped it away, gaze still fixed on Zelda. You saw a glimmer appear in her eyes.
She nodded, “I understand to an extent. I would like you to accompany me tomorrow, I believe you have been to the Rito Village before. There is someone I would like you to meet.” You had when you accompanied your father to gift a bow to their leader in a move to make a sort of peace alliance.
“Link will also come. I hope you two will bond and will come to be a semblance of friends because there is nothing I can really do.”
You lamented, “As you wish.”
It was cold, your breath steamed from you as your horse trudged on. Eyes flickering around as  you heard the creaking trees. Sharp eyes darting to Link, adorned in his royal armor.
Suddenly, a whir of air caught your hair, instantly you pulled your spear out, ready to defend. But what you saw was oddly interesting.
A Rito was flying only a few meters above you, headed forward and slowing. He made the landing perfectly.
“Princess Zelda, to what do I-“ his eyes landed on you. The way you held yourself caught his eye. Straight posture and a proud aura. “Owe the pleasure.”
“I have a very important favor to ask, Revali. I completely understand if you decline.”
“What is it?”
“I want you to train them,” she pointed to you, “with a bow.”
Slightly offended you scoffed, “I do not need a bow.” She had been trying to get you to master archery for years. “I have mastered two other weapons.”
Revali laughed, “Just say you know you aren’t capable of learning it. It is a art form.”
You shot him a icy look, “Archery is for cowards.”
“And a sword on a stick isn’t?” He snapped.
“Quiet you two,” Zelda shouted, “You two are some of the most talented individuals I know. That is why I suggested this. We can only improve with each other.”
You groaned as you got off your horse, “Well?” You looked at Revali.
“She wouldn’t ask me to teach just anyone.” He said, “However, I will keep somethings secret.”
“So it’s settled! I expect to see improvement. In you both.”
While heading to the castle, Zelda cheerfully hummed to herself, which caught Link’s attention. He quickly signed to ask what was funny.

OoT Link does not like his hair having been cut while he was sealed away. This is me mentioning that.
Tumblr media
It was a stupid little thing, really. Link knew that it was just a little thing that he shouldn't care about and certainly not as much as he did, but as he ran his fingers through his hair, noting the shorter length he hated it.
The length felt wrong. The ends felt wrong. Everything about that little change in how he looked felt so very wrong.
It was nothing like the crisp white he'd only seen Princess Zelda wear that he'd been given to compliment his Kokiri Green tunic and brown boots. It wasn't even like the matching brown gauntlets and sword belt that he'd been given as well.
Saria had always been the one to cut his hair. She only ever cut it when he asked her to and never this short. Even without part of it pulled back and up it felt too short.
Navi seemed to know that it was bothering him because she kept shifting tiny pieces this way or that way so it felt a little closer to how it had been. Link closed his eyes tightly and shook his head a little.
"It's okay, Navi."
"It isn't though." She replied, finally settling on top of his head, her hands still fussing with the strands as she wove them into little braids and tucked them around each other. "You don't like it this short... and I don't either."
Link felt a tiny blossom of relief settle in his chest as she said that. Maybe it wasn't such a stupid little thing after all.
"Saria... would always cut it for me when I asked."
"Well..." Navi started then she trailed off as she remembered that Saria was a Sage now. "Maybe next time you want it cut shorter we can ask Saria how she did it and maybe miss Malon or miss Impa could cut it for you instead!"
That sounded like it might work. Link smiled and nodded, relieved to have some sort of plan for that. Maybe it would seem weird but maybe not. He hoped not.
A few months later when he worked up the nerve to ask Malon to cut his hair and explained how he wanted her to do it she smiled happily and agreed. He had been nervous until she was done and then as he ran his fingers through the strands he relaxed, his smile brighter than it had been in a while.
Malon cut it the perfect length. Of course he wouldn't ever know she had watched him running his fingers through his hair and always stopping at a certain point below where it had ended. It was just the length that Navi knew he preferred and confirmed for Malon too.

Nayru
Design
Tumblr media
Nayru has a perfectly serviceable look for a friendly songstress. Good repeating elements through the outfit with the frills. Maybe a little too monochrome for my tastes, but the teal top at least prevents it from being completely blue. I like the single hair tuft on the top of her head, it gives the design more personality.
Unlike the early Zelda sprites, the Oracle sprites look perfectly representative (for the time) of the character. It really isn't that difficult!
Character
Nayru doesn't have a particularly interesting personality, she's just the typical nice-and-friendly girl, singing in the woods to audience of animals like a Disney Princess. Which is not to say that a calm and polite character is inherently worse, but in situations like this where there's not much room for characterisation, it really loses the character a lot of opportunities to show their personality if all their lines are delivered in a neutral tone and about the plot. Nayru works a little better when contrasted to the spunkier Din, but they don't get a lot of screen time together so sadly in the end there's just not much to her.
Role in the story
Nayru had a much better role than I expected for the token damsel in distress of the game. Which to be fair still wasn't much but let's find joy where we can.
As is usual Nayru gets damseled right after she is introduced when the villain who is after her plot critical magical powers takes over her body. After that she is still sort of present in the story, when the villain-as-her starts causing trouble. She is also kept reasonably well in the player's mind since you are instructed to go to her house to see a vision of her and get the Harp of Ages, the game's main item, and you regularly run into an NPC who is also determined to save her.
She is then surprisingly saved in the middle of the story, when the player manages to drive the villain out of her body and who then moves to possess a different target. Unfortunately this doesn't mean much for Nayru since she doesn't really get to do anything interesting with her new freedom other than teleport everyone to safety and teach the player a new song for the harp. When the male characters set out to save the world she even says that there's nothing she can do and just goes home. But I guess it's sort of a win that at least the final objective of the game is something else than "save the girl" this time. Then finally at the end of a linked game she gets to do some cutscene magic to help save the day.
It's cute how the three oracles appear in the Minish Cap; they don't really do anything special (they're looking to move to Hyrule so each has a side quest where the player finds a house for them, after which they give you consumable temporary buff items) but I'm still happy to see them since I like all the Oracles and their GBA sprites are cute.
Relationships
Nayru is lucky to have at least one notable relationship and that is her childhood friend and "protector" Ralph. Ralph is pretty defensive about Nayru and his behaviour reminds me a bit of a possessive boyfriend, though I don't think they are dating even if it seems Ralph would like to. Nayru is pretty chill about this and just apologises to Link for Ralph's dismissive behaviour towards the Hyrulean representatives.
When I played the game I thought Nayru and Ralph were about the same age and in a sort of will-they-or-won't-they dating situation, but the end credits show that he's almost a head shorter. Which immediately changed my perception of their relationship from equal friends to a little boy who has a crush on an older girl who humours him in a sibling like way. But I dunno, maybe he's just short.
Tumblr media
There's nothing interesting about Nayru's relationship towards Link, she's just the usual nice girl who also give some exposition. And she doesn't get anything worth mentioning about the two other oracles either.

Lights burn long
Hey guys! I don’t normally do this but I wrote a little one shot to get me back into writing, and since it’s so short I thought I’d share it ^^. Little domestic hateno fluff piece.
The light of the setting sun often struggled to reach the house across the bridge, tucked at the foot of Heartbreak Pond as it was. Candles were lit a half hour early, an hour in winter. Link liked to find the more expensive scented ones, sold in little shops in the towns across Hyrule. They added a pleasant smell to the twining smoke as it filled the house, casting flickering glows on the clay walls, turning them the colour of the sunset the furniture never saw.
Zelda liked lighting them, a soothing task, and she did them that night as Link gathered the dishes from a late meal, the clink of the cutlery in time with the soft snap whumph of wicks.
He piled them in the sink, jiggling the flame blade they used to heat their water until it glimmered a hot amber. Taking a handful of lye shavings from the pot behind the tub, he sprinkled it evenly into the water and stirred it slowly with a cloth, watching as suds began to trail behind his hand.
The creaking of floorboards took Zelda upstairs, lighting the last two on the desk and at their bedside, to extinguish last as they went to sleep once the moon peaked over the mountains.
As the house filled with light, Link pulled out the first plate, running the cloth over it in slow circles. The hot soapy water warmed his fingers, turning them pink.
Zelda returned, hiding a small yawn in her hand. She leant against Link for a brief moment, her hair swaying into his cheek until she rocked back.
“Sleepy?” he asked, tilting his head to see her squeeze her eyes shut. She hummed, soft and long. “See, that's what happens when you stay up late in your research, you're tired the next day. Get an early night tonight.”
In lieu of a response, she leaned into the counter, swatting at him like a idle cat until he stepped aside, keeping his hands in the sink. Throwing open the cupboard underneath with a creak, she patted around until a towel appeared, white and blue dotted and a present from Paige down at the dye shop as an unexpected house-warming gift.
“Let's get this done first,” she said. “I'd love to get to sleep without having to smell old food.”
“You sleep whether I track bokoblin guts into the house,” Link informed her, and got swatted with the towel for his troubles.
“Unlike a certain someone I could mention, I didn't get enough sleep for a century, so I like it when I get to do it without troubles,” Zelda said primly, taking the spoon he handed her and scrubbing it dry.
“That's not at all what you said last night.” This time, the towel was slightly wet, and left his ear faintly damp.
“Well you should know better than to pry me from my research, Link, really.”
“Mhm,” he agreed without sincerity, swirling his rag in the steaming water to fish out any last cutlery, and realising all the forks had sunk to the bottom. For a long moment, the home was filled with the swish of water and the clink of metal as they cleaned. The sharp smell of the lye stirred about their heads and mixed with the beechwood of the candles as the wax started to melt.
Through the windows, the last rays of sunlight started to fade, smothered by the clouds as temperatures began to drop outside. Inside, the flame blade rippled and sparked in its metal shelf, warming the house from within.
Zelda was yawning hard as she dried the last piece, hard enough that she paused her wiping to screw her face up with the size of it, tears springing to the corners of her eyes. Link took it and the towel from her, stepping into her space to put it on the rack.
“Get to bed,” he chided softly. “You had a long day.”
“Yesterday,” Zelda complained, but conceded, surrendering to his gentle chivvying and heading up the stairs. The top of her blonde head moved around over the railing as he finished the nightly preparations, getting undressed and untying her hair for sleep. He heard the gentle woosh of the candle on the desk being blown out, and then the rustle of her kicking her way under the covers.
He gathered the papers strewn over the table, a couple on the floor, shuffled them into a pile for Zelda to exclaim over his ruining her sorting in the morning, folded the blanket and hung it over the armchair back, kicked the leaves that had wandered in towards the door.
He had a few hours until he was tired, still used to being up all hours of the day and night, and so ran a finger over the well worn shelf in the side table they'd filled with books until he found an omnibus of birds and insects, and settled in the chair as he pleased, kicking both legs over one arm and leaning into the crook of the other.
The candles burned long and sweet, the sky outside fading from purple to a rich blue, and as the moon peeked its round head over the spring of wisdom Link found his head beginning to bob on his neck, the owls on the page beginning to flutter their wings and fly from the paper, singing their distant songs in his listening ears.
He closed the book, leaning over to slide it back on the shelf, and slid to his feet with a delicious, languid stretch. Each candle on his slow circuit of the house blew out one by one, the deadbolt on the door slid into place, the flame blade checked to confirm its dimming to a cool grey. Each step on the stairs felt like hiking a snow covered mountain, and he rested his hand on the railing as he climbed up, hiding his own yawns.
Zelda was already long asleep when he reached her, hair a golden halo in the last glowing candle, face lax in dreams.
Link shucked his clothes one by one, pulling on his worn lobster shirt and a pair of shorts. He sat on the edge of the bed as he undid his hair, running his fingers through until it fell loose again, and tied it back in a simple ponytail to keep it out of their mouths during the night.
He climbed into bed beside her, tugging the duvet free and slipping under. With a silent breath, the last candle cast the house across the bridge into deep darkness, and Link was asleep as soon as his head touched the pillow.
