Kremy notices that Torbek is practically glued to Frost’s hip, but really only bc it’s hindering both Torbek’s and Frost’s work (since I imagine Frost helps Kremy with the financial part of running the carnival, and Torbek obviously helps with climbing things or running some of the attractions). Gideon notices that Torbek is a lot more snappy at the patrons, but as long as there’s no blood shed, he doesn’t really care.

Gricko, however, is obviously DEVASTATED about the situation, and that he’s finding out about it so late. He blames himself for Frost not feeling safe enough to talk to him about something being very clearly wrong with Torbek. Gricko is also beating himself up for not noticing earlier, or voicing his worries more (since I imagine Gricko might’ve actually noticed Frost’s pensiveness about a month in, and notice Torbek’s eyes being very clearly a different color about 2 months in).

Also, this whole situation (and a relating situation that causes the unfortunate death of a patron by Torbek) causes Frost and Torbek to leave the carnival for a while. And yes, Gricko is beating himself up about this too.

Anyone remember the Frostbek series I was working on? Before it kinda stopped? Yeah, I’m still writing it, just very slowly lol. (Actually, at this rate, the next fic might not get posted until ouaw itself picks back up)

Anyway, out of all the fics I have planned for this series (and there’s a lot of ‘em), there’s only one I’m really excited for and know exactly how I’m gonna have it play out. Actually it’s technically 3 separate fics, but they’re connected with this plotline.

CW: Abusive relationship (it’s regarding The Other, so…yeah)

So Frost wakes up in the middle of the night, and all he can see is the glow from Torbek’s canisters, and his eyes. This is not abnormal—I imagine Torbek is more of a night owl like Frost is, but has to be up during the day bc responsibilities and traveling—what IS abnormal, however, is the bright pink hue to his boyfriend’s eyes. “Torbek” sees that Frosty is awake, and immediately crawls closer, smiling.

They have a conversation, that essentially boils down to The Other telling Frost that He’ll be taking over for a while, but to not be alarmed because He has grown rather fond of Frost, partially because of how much Torbek cares for the Tabaxi. The Other does threaten Frost, however, and tells him that if he’d like to keep his head on his shoulders, he wouldn’t tell the others about what’s going on. And that he knows if/when Frost is communicating with someone mentally (idk if The Other actually has mind powers, but shhh). So, Frost keeps quiet about this. For 2 months.

The Other isn’t physically harming Frost, other than a small cut on his cheek from the initial conversation. But the others (Gricko especially) notice how odd both Frost and “Torbek” are acting. Frost seems uncomfortable, if not outright scared, of “Torbek”, and is significantly quieter than he normally is. He won’t even talk to them mentally. And “Torbek” won’t leave Frost’s side. At all. Whereas beforehand, while Torbek was much more comfortable with Frost around, they both also had their own responsibilities on the reformed Carnival, and would spend much of the day apart.

Now, though? Wherever Frost is, “Torbek” is. The bugbear won’t even leave the poor man alone to use the bathroom. And he’s also INCREDIBLY jealous, glaring daggers at whoever decides to talk to Frost for any reason (if looks could kill, Gricko would be dead 10 times over)

Eventually, Gricko realizes that this isn’t Torbek, and must be The Other, and manages to pry Frost away from Him for a short while. He tells Frost there must be some way to bring Torbek back, and that he should try and use his psychic abilities, and see if that works. Frost agrees, and that night, he does so.

This leads to Frost learning just how deep Torbek’s affections go, and Torbek makes a deal with his Other, who agrees and lets Torbek take control again. Happily ever after. For the time being, anyway. ;)

Today I'm ruminating on Lena's oh so important relationship with the Blackwatch boys. Cole and Genji being the closest to her in age, aside from Angela maybe, Lena being the last of the child soldiers that Overwatch recruited for the strike teams. Them watching the cycle repeat one more time with the plucky pilot that's been flying since she was 12, and a soldier since 16, recruited on for one hopeless mission. How she looked up to them so much to guide her in the right direction, how she latched onto them as confidantes and family moreso than other members of the team. Overwatch thrust her into the spotlight, with her name and picture slapped across every picture until Tracer became the persona that everyone looked to, but with Cole and Genji she could just be Lena. She missed being Lena.

Ig its from my belief that people are separate to their dynamics. I can like a character or persons dynamic with someone else whilst disliking them a lot because Point 1, dynamics can be similar to other dynamics like for instance, me and my brothers dynamic is similar to lisa and barts, so I can hate on bart still but still like lisa and barts dynamic cuz its cute and nice and reminds me of mine with my bros. We act similar. I'm not saying bart is like my brother, im saying the interactions he has with lisa is similar to mine and my brothers. Still completely diff personalities.

Another point is that like how one can hate your bffs friend but still love that your bff is happy by that person you hates company. its a "well we both care about them" situation.

Point 3. Its just interest in dynamic, I can hate zim, but still find his dynamic with dib fun, the back and fourth is fun, and no other character fits that dynamic that i love. I can dislike anais but still love her dynamic with darwin and gumball. Personalities can influence dynamics, but usually with a dynamic, the person shows the best part of themselves and that clicks with the other person/or shows the most interesting part of themselves even if its villanous. Some people can come off as so boring until they are around someone else then they bounce off easily. You can even find interest in toxic FICTIONAL dynamics like c!primeboys.

Point 4. Everyone acts different around people and everyone is different. Personalities blend/ or contast with other personalities. So someone could say "hws!italy and hws!japan have a similar dynamic to flaky and sniffles. But its still different characters, different personalities that all impact those interactions, its still not the same dynamic even if its the same or similar at a surface level. Personality impacts it, peoples likes and dislikes impact it, the fear for hws!italy and flaky stems from something else, and the intelligence with hws!japan and sniffles stems from something else, which changes those interactions making them different. c!primeboys is similar to belos and hunter and belos and luz, but personalities still are different so they are not the same.

Final point. Making it fictional. People can take already existing characters and or ccs and make the interactions they have with others into a fictional thing. Lets take Equestria girls, take twilight and fluttershys dynamic and then take twilight from the human world and human world fluttershy who has no idea who she is. Their dynamic still exists once they get to know each other and its still incredibly similar, because its still the same two people involved despite different experiences, different location, different social structures and different upbringings, they still are very close to pony twilight and fluttershy. This is why aus work so well because you could put like fic!beeduo in a zombie au where they still are close in your story and their dynamic would be just like their original dynamic despite different circumstances if that makes sense? Or take zim and dib, have them in another universe where they have no idea who they are. They get to know each other. boom similar af dynamic (even if in this world Dib didnt hate aliens and zim didnt wanna take over the world, theyl still have smth similar. Even shrek 4 did this well, donkey had no idea who shrek was and yet donkey and shrek still had an incredibly similar dynamic.

yes experiences shape us, but we still at our core have a personality. Some people choose to indulge in an au version of a duo/trio ect.. rather than the real thing, because it still at its core has that funny entertaining dynamic no matter what role, no matter whos memory is wiped, no matter location, and no matter the world around us.
