"The ship is-"

"Fine," Ed interrupts. "Sit and listen to Stede read, or go to bed. I'm not gonna listen to a negative word about it, Iz."

Izzy frowns. "In my defense, being asked randomly to assist in providing character voices-"

"No," Ed interrupts again, and if it was anyone else doing it he would have threatened to stab them by now. "He was trying to include you."

"I understand that, but as I said to Stede, and by the way, he was fine with my not being comfortable doing that unless informed earlier in the day, so I don't know what your fucking problem is-"

Ed rolls his eyes and cuts him off with a frustrated growl. "Either sit for the story or don't! What the fuck is so important about the ship you had to interrupt?"

Izzy looks to a clearly uncomfortable Stede and assembled crew, all looking back at him in nervous hesitation.

"There's a fire and a leak in the lower decks, neither of which I was able to fix without help. Hence why, Edward, I'm up here. Trying to ask for help."

Ed's mouth opens, but he's already turned on his heel, grabbed an extra bucket for water to try and put out the fire, and is heading back below deck.

"...do you think he's got it now? On his own?"

He hears Stede's voice and resists the urge to jog back up and tell him that no, he probably doesn't, considering he told them he didn't! One extra bucket won't be enough help, but if a story is more important than the ship staying afloat, so be it.

Below, he fights the steady stream, but thankfully no worse, of seawater accumulating on the floor, trying to toss rags down until it can be bailed out. They soak up next to nothing, but the placebo effect of it keeps his blood pressure down until he's finally got a shit looking but decent patch of boards and fresh tar over the leak.

"Oh," Olu peers in. "You got things?"

Izzy turns. It isn't Olu's fault the captains aren't doing jack shit about this or the still raging, if smaller, fire.

So he takes a deep breath before he speaks.

"No, not really. But it should hold for now. If it doesn't, we'll know soon enough."

"By taking turns checking on it?"

"Olu, come on," Izzy sighs heavily. "You know they won't make any of you do that."

Olu nods. "Doesn't mean we shouldn't though."

There's a beat of uncomfortable silence.

"Thank you," Izzy can't bring his eyes from the floor. "For coming down to check on things. I don't suppose I could ask for your help with the fire?"

Olu's eyes widen. "Stede thought you'd already dealt with that."

"I literally told them I hadn't, and I grabbed an extra bucket!" Izzy lifts it from where it floats by his feet. "Why would I have taken this otherwise? To have a friend with me?!"

"Certainly not making any friends talking like that," Stede peeks out from behind Olu. "Sorry Olu, but are you coming up now? The others wanted to wait till you got back..."

Olu frowns and turns back to him. "We need to bail out the water here, and Izzy said the fire is still going! We have to put a hold on the story."

"True," Stede sighs, and trundles off away while they watch him. The smoke of the fire has spread to the area near the steps to the main deck, but Stede walks past it with nary a word.

"He's having a bad day," Olu winces. "He appreciates your work."

"Olu."

"I know, I know," Olu chuckles. "It doesn't really help to hear when he disappears like that. I know the feeling."

"Yes, but you should step in here," Izzy points down the hall to a few flames. "Normally I wouldn't advise staying in a partially flooded room, but I think it might be to our benefit now."

Olu nods as they step back in and close the door to the room. "He saw the smoke, so he'll send everyone down here to put out the fire so we can get out."

Izzy pats Olu's shoulder. "It doesn't help as much saying it aloud, does it? I always try it, with issues Ed's ignoring. Eventually, he will make a decision and do something, or delegate it to someone else."

"Isn't the someone else usually you?" Olu asks.

Izzy takes a deep breath. He may as well, because there might not be much left soon.

"Yes. Yes it is. Should we see if we can knock on the ceiling until someone else comes down?"

He looks, and Olu already has a broom in hand, tapping at the ceiling of the room.

"How bad was the fire?" Ed sniffs and wrinkles his nose. "You smell like smoke."

Stede sighs. "The leak is fixed, but he hasn't gotten to the fire yet. I think Olu might stay down and help him, so I would advise not waiting for tonight's chapter until he's back. I can always reread it later for him and anyone else who wants, or give him a synopsis of it-"

"The ship is still on fire?" Jim calls, tossing their rough blanket aside.

"Unless they've already gotten it taken care of now, yes," Stede replies, then pales.

"Fucking," Jim grumbles and stands. "Everyone up, let's get this done. Sooner we do, sooner we get our chapter!"

"Hm," Pete says. "I don't think we need everyone though. And besides Olu and Izzy are capable! He might want to kill Izzy by the time they're done, but who doesn't while doing chores with him, right?"

There's a slightly awkward, strangled chorus of giggles.

Jim kneels down by Pete. "If I burn alive on this ship tonight-"

"You'll kill me?"

"Why would you say that," Lucius mutters. "Babe, don't-"

"I'm just asking! I'm allowed to ask questions!"

"Okay, let's take a moment and talk a bit," Stede slams the book in his hands shut. "Nothing about this day has gone right, and I was so looking forward to reading tonight-"

"They have to hear us," Izzy coughs. "What the fuck are they doing?!"

"Could we break out through the ceiling?" Olu suggests. "Or the leak you just patched?"

"Either way it seems we'll end tonight floating in the sea, helpless," Izzy replies. "But I say ceiling first. Maybe we can get back down and get water onto it before we lose her completely. Might make Bonnet cry, and I'd rather not deal with that."

Olu smirks. "You'd feel bad for him? Oh my god, you would!"

"Shut it," Izzy snaps, waving the rapidly thickening smoke away as they kneel to the floor to avoid it. "I just know how much it hurts to lose a ship you love. This is his first ship, and-"

"I can't wait to tell Jim," Olu giggles. "Iz, seriously though. That's sweet of you, and if we don't die here, you should tell him! He'd like it."

"Do you think he'll still like it if I pair it with a bit of screaming at him for nearly letting us die?"

Olu thinks. "...Maybe. Give like a day between the two things maybe, instead."

Izzy ponders it as they scrabble about the room for additional tools to break into the ceiling.

Bonnet might actually like something about him. What a thought.

"And I'm saying you don't need to be so blunt when I'm just asking stuff!" Pete shouts. "We're a crew, a team! We need to act like it."

"Counterpoint," Jim says gently, then in a shout. "THE SHIP IS STILL ON FUCKING FIRE!"

"Oh fuck," Stede mutters. "Okay, Jim is right. Pete, we will finish going over this later though, I promise. I'll grab you and Jim tomorrow and-"

There's a loud crunch and snap and crack and then Izzy's face pops out of the fresh hole in the deck floor. "We're fucking suffocating in the room down here, trapped, and you fucks are still reading tonight's chapter?!"

"Oh," Stede winces. "Ah, okay let's really get a move on then, gang! Izzy, is Olu-"

Izzy crawls out of the hole, and shoves away Stede's held out hand. "Go get fucking water and buckets! Olu and I can take care of ourselves, as it seems we should be more prepared to do more often, if this night is any indication."

Stede's mouth opens, but closes without a word before he sets the book in his hand down, and follows the crew below deck, into the smoke.

Once Olu is up through the hole, Izzy lets himself collapse back on the deck.

"We aren't dead."

Olu chuckles. "Not yet. There's still time though."

Izzy laughs, then coughs. "Isn't there always?"

They both chuckle and snort until they're laughing hard in between coughs, both flat on the deck.

"By way of formal apology," Stede says softly, and pushes the coins on his desk towards Olu and Izzy. "I know it doesn't really make up for it, but I truly didn't realise how bad it was down there. Um. Roach has also offered to cook your favourite desserts, something for each of you. To celebrate your still being alive..."

He frowns. "Ed, little help?"

"They know you're sorry," Ed replies. "Glad you're alright, Olu."

Olu nods. "Me too. Glad I had another crew member with me though, or that might have been it."

Ed won't even look at him. Izzy tries not to catch his eyes, to meet his gaze, but he wants to so badly.

Instead, he pockets the coins with his thanks to Bonnet, and traipses out of the captains quarters towards the steps to go below deck.

There's clean up and repairs to be done, after all.

The overall colorblidness, microagressive, tone deaf, racially insensitive or however you want to call it behavior of this fandom was already awful enough, but PEOPLE GOING TO A FUCKING PLANTATION, taking pictures with toys (a funko pop of white slave owner Louis btw) as if they're at Disney World and posting it so casually (further info here, here and here)? I don't even think you can go lower than that. That's one of the biggest offenses I've seen on fandom ANYWHERE, of any show/movie/book. I'm appalled.

And I'm glad this escalated enough to the point even British media outlets are writing about this, because WE SHOULD ACKNOWLEDGE IT and people should deal with the consequences of their actions, though I feel for Jacob, Delainey, black fans in general and SPECIALLY NOLA natives will probably see or have already seen this shit. Specially the latter that have to deal with it on a daily basis, because even to this day the generational traumas of their ancestors and themselves are still exploited. The fact they may have WITNESSED IT IN PERSON themselves is disgusting and infuriating.

You wanna learn about racism and slavery in the U.S.? Turn to books and documentaries, if you can't afford them or find any in our country, if you can't ship international products to where you live because access to these things can be complicated sometimes, then read a blog or watch YouTube videos for free (just please check their credentials to know they're reliable and a professional, like an actual historian and check ACTUAL black sources and not white people who may undermine such topics).

You genuinely wanna honor and pay your respects to those people? Then, go to the places YOU'RE ACTUALLY ALLOWED to go, don't focus on taking pictures for social media, just sit down, reflect on where you're standing, pray for those souls, find a local charity that you can donate money to and/or work as a volunteer for a little bit IF YOU REALLY WANT TO HELP, because local communities don't need spoiled individuals who will just be lazy and fillers or cause mess and give them more work to do.

ALSO, shame on people who did see this and said nothing, specially if they spend countless time shitposting, sharing memes or talking about white characters and ships. This happened in late OCTOBER and it's been almost a whole MONTH. And somehow this is only being spread NOW because a British newspaper made an article about it. It should never have happened in the first place, but we should've acknowledged it by ourselves and not just because it went public? If you search the tag, you will LITERALLY ONLY FIND F O U R POSTS ABOUT IT, tops. AND IT'S BEEN ALMOST A FUCKING MONTH. Does this fandom need the Daily Mail or whatever source that was to act with some decency? Are you doing it to look good or out of genuine indignation, respect and empathy for black people, specially NOLA fans? I know some people genuinely didn't know because they avoid certain blogs, tags, block, blacklist and try to curate their dashboards in the best possible way to avoid the mess, follow thousands of blogs and/or a new to the fandom, which is completely understandable, but this WOULD HAVE totally blown up way SOONER if as a collective this fandom cared more. We're talking about some pretty popular accounts, some with 16,000+ followers FOR FUCK'S SAKE. I REFUSE to believe this wouldn't have gone viral sooner if thr fanbase actually wanted to combat racism in the IWTV/TVCverse. Anyway, MAY THIS FINALLY BE THE WAKE UP CALL THIS FANDOM DESPERATELY NEEDS, shamefully way too late, yes, but at least better late than never.

(i didn't write meulin because i was having a hard time writing her and didnt want to half-ass her part,but i didn't want to leave this ask to rot because i really like it, i'm very sorry i couldn't fufill all of the characters D:)

notes: signless can be seen as platonic or romantic...i think thats it? reader has a typing quirk where they replace the letter i with '||', the letter L with "//" and they capitalize all letter e's.

Anyuwu, Daisy and I’s first and only phone call was the day the scandal went down and I had people come and berate me in my asks and SHE called ME because I was home alone and was having a panic attack, even though she was the one who had it way worst that day. She talked me through it. I have NEVER had a friend OR FAMILY MEMBER do that for me. I will never see her as this evil entity that a lot of anons like to try and harrass me into. I take her for who she is and she’s done the same for me. We’ve seen each other at our ugliest and have helped pull each other back up when we needed help. Which is all friendship is when u think about it. 

I’m not as placid as u might think, I actually do call out my friends when I’m not happy with them. If I’m not happy with how things play out or if they don’t take accountability, I will and have dropped them. I don’t need to be told how to manage my friends, I promise angel cake :D

Hey friends! In some strange turn of events, I’ve been spending more time on this website again so I think I should make a post reintroducing myself and saying what I use this blog for now (as of December 2020)

So if you just stumbled upon my blog or if you’ve been following me for a while but forgot, hi! I’m tumblr user christianborle (am i really the man himself? well, that’s the question oop) and I’ve been on here since 2012 (oh god). You may know me from reblogging posts about christian borle, obviously, theatre/broadway (shoutout if you’ve been here since smash aired on tv omfg), star wars, doctor who, cartoons, and whatever other kinds of entertainment I enjoy. You may have seen me be involved in fandoms and discussions over the years and I may have been mutuals with some of you!

Around 2017 things were getting toxic on this website and I just needed to step away. With this whole pandemic, I’ve been watching a lot more movies and tv shows and reading more books, and slowly I dipped my toe back into fan stuff because I wanted to find more content. A little bit of Anne with an E, then Steven Universe, then Avatar the Last Airbender, and now Julie and the Phantoms has taken over my life, as you may have seen lol. (also i have maybe been avoiding responsibilities and work recently so if u see me actively reblogging a ton of stuff tell me to get tf off of here lmao)

While I do miss fan communities, it is still a bit overwhelming for me and I still need to focus on other areas of my real life. so how I operate tumblr now is I:

don’t scroll through the dashboard anymore so I can limit my screen time here. I only stalk my friends’ blogs and reblog from them. so if you see me reblogging like 25 posts from you at once, please don’t feel creeped out!

basically if i recently watched a movie or tv show i just go ham and spam y’all with it for a few hours/days. i’m not sorry lmao. so if you see some random influx of, for example, matilda (1996) gifsets for no reason, you can safely assume i rewatched it and i needed a moment to get my feelings out about it. i expected to only blog for a day about julie and the phantoms and now i’ve accidentally turned into a jatp blog so that may happen too lol. as always, you can blacklist whatever you don’t like to see!

a little bit hesitant to join fandoms again because a lot has changed in fan culture since i left and i can’t have too many distractions. but that doesn’t mean i am opposed to making new friends! i love to talk about the things I am passionate about and am always trying to be kind and lend a helping hand :)

if you’ve been following me for a while, you probably know who christian borle is (my url). you can rest easy knowing i am still a fan of his and seeing as his name is attached to this blog, i always try to uphold respectful standards because of that. i would reblog more stuff about him, but the tags are kind of scary tbh and as i said, fandom spaces have changed. but if you want to talk about him and his work and how awesome he is, or if you have any questions about him, my inbox is always open! i miss getting asks haha

uhhh well first of all I think childe x zhongli is like the most pathetic and boring "default" pairing this fandom came up with. they have 0 chemistry and I just hate everything about it. as much as I headcanon both as queers... together romantically it feels like 2 straight men put together by ya*i fans............ also before i blacklisted to ship and voluntarily looked through the ship tag... every post felt like a hard ooc. i could not understand what childe or zhongli are supposed to be as individuals, what they have in common, what kind of dynamic they have. deadass most crack ships with 0 interactions have more flavor than this tragedy

eng VAs are great people and appreciate their work but whoever decides the voices ain't doing it right. every male character sounds like a middle-aged white man.. and most of the youngest characters sound like very obvious adults trying to pretend to be babies. all of it irks me so bad god.. and there are so many characters that lose their little spark in eng........ (yet in korean and chinese they're completely fine??)

i run a yandere writing blog as well and i was wondering - is it okay to use general tags (like once that dont include the word 'yandere')? because I wouldn't want people in the general tag for the thing im writing for to come across it if might trigger them or if they'd send me hate for it or something, but im afraid it might not get seen as much if its only in yandere specific tags. do u have any advice on that? its ok if u dont, then feel free to delete this!!

Ah well, how do I say that?

Yandere, Lemon - all that stuff shouldn’t be in general tags because there could be minors and people be triggered. However, you need to put it into these tags so that people will find it. Usually, people aren’t like “Oh today I want to read a yandere!x” story, they’ll be like “Oh today I want to read an x story” and then stumble over yandere and search for that specific yandere if they liked it.

You should definitely give people a chance to not see your content by tagging yandere in the tags so they can blacklist it. However, if you are super afraid just put “YANDERE WARNING” before your story in the same post and they can still skip it seeing that (if they didn’t blacklist the tag).

Don’t take shit from anyone really tho. You are only as responsible as they are for reading your story. No one ever says they need to finish what they started despite being uncomfortable, so if they read it anyway, knowing it’s not their cup of tea then you are not more guilty than them.

You are not guilty for writing what you want until proven otherwise (aka someone points out you are glorifying something problematic or the like).

They are not guilty for not reading your stuff bc they don’t like yandere (and you can’t force them to).

You will always get h*te for writing this kind of stuff, sorry anon. Just grow a thick skin right now and stop being too scared to do your thin. Post them in the general tags and be kind to people asking you to tag something specific (e.g. blood, death, etc), but don’t bow to every whim. You need to respectfully not give a fuck tbh! If they still decide to send you an ask (and not just blocking you) after you tagged ‘yandere’ for them to block, they read the request/saw your warning before the story, and h*te on you because they read it, then honestly why should you care.

I said it at the top, lemon, yandere - all of it doesn’t belong in the tags for fandoms. Because there are always people who will get upset or triggered or are too young. But you will definitely be seen less if you don’t put them there and there are also a lot of people that want to see your content too!!

In a book shop, there aren’t just books full of bland literature about things that won’t trigger people either, they have erotica novels, crime fiction, etc. out in the open too, no matter how intense it is. And you don’t see someone complaining about the latest display of crime novels on the open street either, do you? Tumblr is as much your platform as it is everyone else's and you deserver to be here and to be seen just as much. So be respectful but stand above anyone’s Karen-complaining.

That said, it’s just my opinion. Some will share it, some will think it’s helpful, others won’t like what I just said. I could have the best response in the world and some will still go against me, and that’s fine. That is their problem, but I am not making it mine, and that’s how I think everyone should run their blog until taught better. If Tumblr were to put out a note saying that this content is banned then so be it and we have to accept it. But other people have no authority over you, don’t forget that.

This isn’t to send any hate or negativity at all but I just wanted to explain the other sides perspective a bit.

Minecraft doesn’t always equal Minecraft youtubers/streamers or the dream smp or even hermitcraft. Sometimes it’s just people looking for building designs or update info or whatever. Tags like mcyt and dsmp exist so that posts pertaining to those topics specially end up in those subset of tags. We should tag those posts in the general Minecraft tag since it doesn’t always pertain to those tags.

It’s also just much easier for those people to go through the Minecraft tag freely instead of having to blacklist a bunch of different subset tags (like dsmp and mcyt) or block a bunch of accounts.

Again no hate at all, I’m in the fandom as well. I just hope you understand their side a bit better. There is no need for some of your anons to be so negative and hateful and it’s extremely uncalled for. The non-hateful ones are just asking us to be mindful of different fandoms and to not use the wrong fandom tags

I'll go through each part you mentioned!

1) Yes I will be discussing all future Telltale games on this blog :) However, I will try to keep it around 80% twdg as much as possible for those who only want that kind of content from me (I will add a tag for TWAU S2 so people can blacklist it if they wish). I'm looking forward to discussing Wolf 2 when it nears release!

2) I will gladly review other games if that's what people want to see from me.

3) I REALLY want to do more streams. However I'll need to find a way to do it outside of streaming on Steam as that's had issues in the past when people have joined my episodic playthroughs of TFS. I plan to play through the entire series one day and provide commentary throughout it. I'll also stream TWAU S2 when it releases as well.

4) I've actually been apart of a fair number of Discord groups in the fandom since early TFS lol. I won't be making my own Discord though since if I'm being realistic with myself - I won't have time to monitor it every day ^_^; however if anyone would like me to join their Discord, feel free to shoot me an invite!

5) As for ideas, I'm currently working on that!

So far I've dropped a new TWD Drawing Challenge for people to do and I have 2 more lined up for the months ahead as well! (June & August) and that's not even including my ritual of Inktober every year!

I briefly considered making a challenge for the writers in the fandom as well, but I don't wish to take away from the other writing challenges currently going on right now by other members :)

(2/2) Personally I just get kind of wary when it seems like people are jerking it to someone else’s abuse/suffering bc they can- A relationship with no problems is boring, of course, but as an abuse victim it just kind of makes my skin crawl when people who may or may not have been through the situation they’re writing about or consuming in some way present it as entertainment without thinking about who it might affect or what’s really going on inside it

well i mean.. i agree with you haha there’s like ten thousand different opinions i have about shipping culture especially now, especially with the life experiences i have now. i mean, it’s rly hard to make blanket statements about a lot of fandom stuff considering how huge fandom is and how many different individual things are happening… fandom isn’t a hivemind, so a lot of what i was talking about, especially before, is honestly just really specific to my dash and what i’ve been seeing on it in the past year or two compared to, let’s say 2009-2010

like, i understand that abusive dynamics is an incredibly fetishized thing in fandom, and i understand stuff like… i mean, what i’ve come to realize now that i am a survivor of a shitload of bullshit things is how so much of the hurt/comfort genre… can read as really fetishy depending on who is writing it and who actually has an understanding of what’s being written. some hurt/comfort does read as an exploration of trauma and recovery, and then other hurt/comfort stuff just looks like a woobiefying circlejerk over one cute character’s pain

so i do enjoy the fact that it’s becoming more known what’s wrong with this kind of shit but what i’ve found is that now there’s so much backlash towards anything in that vein, there’s no moderation and there’s no differentiation between someone who is being really fetishy and someone who is respectfully enjoying material for more personal reasons. i was talking more about the backlash one ship in one fandom has gotten because, especially out of late (i mean, it comes in waves when you check the tags) there’s been a lot of hate being thrown, lots of death threats, lots of people being blacklisted just because they’re into a ship, and that’s just… WEIRD to me! it’s not like a new thing, shipping wars has always been a thing, but there’s a new level now. i feel like (and this is an overarching problem on tumblr i’ve noticed that is only being aimed at fandom for this topic, but i see it with everything) that there is a VERY black and white, and very basic set of morals that people are forcing themselves to adhere to that aren’t realistic because, frankly, they’re kind of ignorant? in that it seems like, instead of forming their own opinions, people are latching so hard to ideas they read on tumblr and then run off to attack people who don’t conform to those ideas instantly, until that idea morphs and gets more and more extreme, until we’re left with nothing but this really extreme ONE view without any give-or-takes happening, no gray areas, nothing. which is largely because there’s just a lot of young people on here who are still trying to figure out where they are and that’s an unfortunate matter on its own blbhgkj

like, that’s one opinion i have on the subject, and then another is just the fact that, myself as a survivor is different than other people as a survivor, and i get that. there are people who have the opinion that there is absolutely no reason rape should ever be depicted in media as a plot form, ever, and that’s based on their experiences and that’s a valid opinion for them, but for me, when it’s written right, then i’m fine with it. then i’m more than fine with it. i like these kind of topics. i’ve always gravitated towards darker shit like that, even more so now that i’ve experienced it irl, so i’m also aware of the fact that my… let’s say, alarm, about the popularity and shift in tone in how these topics are talked about has changed is just because i’m so used to the 2010 era of fiction, and i’m still in that 2010 mindset where no one ever bats an eye to it, and my opinions and tastes now are the same as they were back then. if bakudeku had come out at the same time naruto had, i’m certain they would be the hugest ship out there in the fandom. now, that’s just not true. which is interesting!

and i hope it also doesn’t sound like i’m saying this is a bad thing. i’m just saying it’s different! for good and bad reasons, because, again, i’ve seen a lot of terrible behavior spurned from this kind of thinking and i think that is behavior that needs to be fixed, but just because other people have a different taste than i do doesn’t mean it’s wrong. so i apologize if it sounds like that’s what i thought cuz it’s not :s
