The gentleman and the lady.
Tumblr media
BTS AU
Part1 /...
A/N: I am a sucker for any action/agent movie. Personal favorites are James Bond, Jason Bourne and Kingsman, I hope they don’t f*** up the sequel. I have agent Aus already written, but I wanted to base this one more on a Kingsman style. You will notice I have taken quotes from the movie as well. I hope you like it and sorry for any mistakes made.
Word count:  3,623
Warnings: It’s an agent au, definitely blood and cussing.
People feel fear and try their best to stay away from it, but let me ask you this. What is a life without action, life threatening moments and a shit tone of adrenaline in your blood system? A boring one. Those who haven’t experienced the rush from jumping off of a plane, the metal of a gun and the badass feeling when you are wearing the clean cut clothes and are potentially walking towards death, are babies. It make life worth living to the fullest.
One minute you are at a coffee shop with old friends and the next your in your car, trying to change your clothes while looking at the road. I know it sounds strange, but once it becomes your everyday life, you don’t notice it too much.Yes your BFF might ask you all the time what you work as, but you don’t have lie, or tell the full truth.
“You never tell me anything.”she said with her hands on her hips, not letting you step into your car. You smiled as you looked at her.
“I am just a simple tailor.” that answers the question and stunned the girl, giving you space to sit down and drive off with a goodbye lingering onto your lips
Good thing the city you lived in had a few stoplights, which gave you almost enough time to get ready. At the first red light you placed an earphone in your right ear, at the second one you fixed up your clothes and the third your make up.
“Hello.”you heard a voice answer in your ear
“My apologies, I think I got the wrong number.”you said without even thinking, eyes glued to the road
   Voice recognized agent: 251920
“Well come back Y/N.”a male voice said
“Hey Joon.”you parked the car “Why was I called for?”
“We have a little assignment for you.”
“Oh really?”you closed the door and fixed your shirt, the sound of your heels echoed at each marble stair you stepped on “I am here.”you took off the ear piece and the wood framed glass doors opened in front of you. You walked inside the tailor store.
“Welcome madam.”your eyes focused on a tall man, he had slight orange tinted blonde hair and visible dimples “To the Kingsman tailor shop.” you smirked to yourself and he turned his back on you “Follow me.” and you did. Both of you started walking farther inside the shop, until you reached a small fitting room. The man closed the door behind you two and stepped back.
“May I do the honers?”you asked and he nodded
You pulled the cuffs on your shirt a bit back and placed your hand onto the mirror.
Hand print recognized, entry permission granted. Welcome back-agent: 251920.
“Good to be back.”you smiled after the robotic voice activated the elevator, taking you both down.
“You were gone only for a month.”commented the tailor behind you
“It is enough time to start missing this place, don’t you think Joon?”you looked at him
“Most agents are happy to find time away from work.”
“I am not most.”
“True.”
Once the platform reached the end, you stepped inside the capsule that was supposed to take you to headquarters. “I never liked this thing.”Namjoon said as he sat down
“Then you better hold on tight.” it was very fast and he wasn’t one to enjoy the ride per say. The good thing was that you didn’t have to take a taxi when the car wasn’t around, or the bus.
Once it stopped moving, you dragged Namjoon out and went straight to the bosses office.
“Sir.”you placed your right hand in front of your stomach and bowed
“Ah yes, Y/N we have been waiting for you. Sit down.”
“Yes sir.”you closed the big door behind you and made yourself comfortable. As soon as you looked up you noticed a boy.Hair-brown, clothes casual as yours, nothing special at first glance.
“This is Jung Jungkook. Agent from the Korean secret service.” the boy bowed his head “I want you to to teach him.” you looked at the old man with a serious yet questionable look
“What exactly am I supposed to teach him sir?”
“How to be a gentleman.”
“Isn’t that task more fitted for a male agent?”
“I trust you with this.”
This sentence had you immobile in the conversation. Whatever he says goes. You were excused and left the room with this new comrade of yours. He was walking behind you, following the sound of your heels, his eyes contouring your figure. No word was said until you were both in the car and driving in the city.
“Where are we going if I may ask?”he finally spoke with a honey sweet voice. It did catch you off guard for a split second. You looked at him with the corner of your eye. The sunglasses you had one hid your small peek.
“To get you fitted.”you said
“For a suit?”
“Yes.”your answers, sharp and quick as ever
“A suit isn’t a necessity for an agent. It gives us style, but not ability. I advice training first.” well isn’t he full of himself
“Your advice is unsolicited.”you cut him off which surprised him “The suit is a modern gentleman’s armor.”you stepped out of the car and looked at the shop to your right. The man followed you as you two walked inside. “Welcome to the Kingsman tailors.”you placed your sunglasses in your pocket as you said that.
“Taehyung.”you called out and he appeared, his hair a mix of silver, gray and cool blue colors. His hair was slightly curly and hanging down his face. He was dressed appropriately for his job and had measuring tape around his neck. Not to mention his bubbly and cute personality, that could make even a heart of ice melt.
“Hey long time no see.”he smiled walking closer to you two “What brings you here?”he asked
“I am here to get this man fitted for a suit.” you pointed at him with your head
“Will you choose the style first, or do we measure?” he asked
“We measure.”
“Got it.”Taehyung escorted Jungkook to one of the rooms, in the meantime you were looking around to see if something would look good on him “He is done.”said Taehyung, but you didn’t turn around at all. Jungkook walked over to you and asked.
“What are you looking at?”
“I am choosing a suit for you. That is why we are here, remember.”your eyes were not moving from the fabrics, a few minutes later you called for Taehyung. Just like a puppy he ran over
“Did something catch your eye?”he said
“I want you to make him an English cut , single breasted jacket. The shirt will have a classic collar and french cuffs.”
“You were always a fan of the cuff-links.”the boy was writing down everything you said “What about the lapel? Are you going to go with the notch?”
“I was thinking of it, but a peak lapel goes better with an English cut. ”
“This is why you are the best in our business.”Taehyung looked at Jungkook “Trust me I am not overestimating her.”
“That isn’t true at all.”you said “You are the master of shoes.”
“I am. Need any help with that?”you nodded “The suit so far is very formal.A dark cap toe will look good on him.”he suggested
“I might like cuff-links, but you are a sucker for a good pair of Oxford’s.”you smiled, making Jungkook look at you
“You know me and my one sided love towards Balmorals.” he chuckled
“What?”asked Jungkook
You grabbed a pair of shoes sitting in front of you “And Oxford’s, also know as Balmorals, is any formal shoe with open lacing. I think we are done here.”
“Almost. What about tie paring?”
“Semi-butterfly bow tie.”
“Understood. The suit should be ready in one or two days. I will call you if I get it sooner.”he placed the clipboard on the desk in the middle of the store “What are you going to do now?”
“I don’t know, we will see when we reach the apartment.”
“You will be living in one place?!” Taehyung placed his hands in front of his lips and smirked a bit
“Oh shut up. This is work.” you said your goodbyes and found yourselves back in the small space of the car
“Why do we have to go through all of this trouble for a suit.”
“My boss told me to make you into a gentleman.”you said
“I am already a man.” which made you chuckle “Did I say something funny?”he asked
“Ignorance is quite humorous to me.I can see why I was asked to do this.”he didn’t say anything, only his eyes lingered onto your figure, slowly burning the area he was interested in“ Being a man is a matter of age, being a gentleman is a matter of choice.”
“You are a very interesting woman. In all of my work I have never met someone like yourself. You seem to know what to say every time.”
“Likewise Jungkook.”
“You finally addressed me by my name, Y/N.”he averted his gaze towards the road
“Not only I.” the wind stopped blowing from the side windows
“You know, this is the third time you park this car.”he said
“Is it so? I hadn’t noticed.” you looked up at the building “We will be staying here for the next week. In that time period I must turn you into a gentleman. Shouldn’t be that difficult, don’t you think?”you looked at him
“We will see.”
“Indeed we shall.” he picked up your luggage before you could reach it, from the look on his face you understood he was waiting for you to praise him. The smirk on your face made him realize that he wasn’t going to get what he wanted. “A gentleman is always happy to serve, whether it's opening the door, picking up the bill, or merely calling a cab the next morning. Ask him for help and he cannot refuse.”
“Damn it.”he whispered silently
“It will take more than common manners to impress me Mr. Jungkook.”you giggled and walked in front of him with the key in hand
“I will make you compliment me. Mark my words.”he yelled out
“You make it sound like etiquette is something you use from time to time. Manners are not optional, but essential.” leaving him without any words was something you were very good at.The apartment looked amazing, quite classy.Night had fallen and the sounds of the city lingered in the distance of the 7th floor.
“You sound like a person stuck in an old era.”he sat on the chair and relaxed his body
“That is how my organization operates.”you let down your hair and took off the heels, letting your legs finally rest  “What about you?”you asked sitting opposite of him
“We are laid back I guess. We work in teams usually of three.”
“Interesting. I have never worked in a team before. You are the first person closer to my age to be my partner. The only person who I have gone on missions with was my mentor.”
“What happened to him?”
“You know, the job decided that it was time for him to....go.”
“I am sorry for your loss.”he said
“Something to drink?”you suggested and he nodded “It happened a long time ago.I still keep a few pictures of him as memory of the good days.”you picked up the two glasses and gave him one “Basically that is how our work repays us. We stay in the shadows and never show our faces.”
“What is the point then?”he asked, you leaned onto the table and took a sip of the burning drink
“You know, I have wondered that as well, but the only thing that comes to my mind is ‘ambiguous’.Simply there is no answer.”
“If it’s not for the job we do the world would be a worse place. We are keeping it as safe as possible.”
“At a very high price.”you set the drink aside
“What do you lose working for the Kingsman?”he asked
“Well, social life from time to time. I miss being able to take a walk in a park without being so aware of everything and everyone around me.I have lost a few good friends, a father figure and a great teacher, but the most difficult one is I guess love.” you noticed the look on his face “Did I surprise you?”
“A little bit yes.”
“I see mothers, families. I know that I won’t be able to find a man that will keep my secret if ever captured.”
“Then why don’t you find yourself someone from your company?”Jungkook suggested
“They are not my type, trust me.Most are old and the young ones are just too stuck up.”
Jungkook stood up and walked over to you, leaning passed your body to pour himself another drink. You could smell his cologne “Why not someone in between? Not young, but also not old.” his words were almost whispered in your ear, he was that close to you.The sound of the liquid being poured into the glass ,took over the silence.
“Are you suggesting someone?”you asked, moving your head a bit towards his
“I might be.Are you interested?” Jungkook’s voice got to a surprising deepness
“Is he a gentleman?”
“He is more stylish.” his head pulled back a bit and looked into your eyes
Your head came closer to his and a smile painted your lips. He was only inches from you. “Being a gentleman never goes out of style.” you reached and grabbed the glass out of his hand. The boy was a bit disappointed “Never lower your guard, even if you know the person in front of you.”he sighed and ran a hand aggressively thought his hair.
“Don’t lower your guard, just because you have won.”
“Hm?”you turned around and saw the amber colored drink in his hand, with yours empty “You are skilled.”
“Oh dear! Did a Kingsman underestimate an opponent?”his voice colored in sarcasm
“Indeed I did.” you picked up your jacket and made your way towards your room in the apartment “You should take your own advice as well, Jungkook.”
“You took my phone didn’t you?”he smiled
“Who knows.”you threw it back to him “Goodnight.”
“To you too.”
The next few days you weren’t able to meet each other very often even if you lived in the same place.Work called at different times. But you were able to catch a glimpse of his skills as a real agent and he was truly amazing.Who would have thought that this man, so childish and laid back could be so serious and deadly with a gun in hand. This showed to prove that everyone of us has a dark side. Could it have been the shared space or purely the way he acted around you, but for the first time in forever you were interested in a man.
You knocked onto his bedroom door, when he stepped out wearing only shorts. His muscles exposed. You averted your eyes almost instantly.
“What is it? You like what you see?”he smirked and pulled your chin towards himself “I didn’t know you could act shy.I think I like this you more than the serious one.” you grabbed his arm and twisted it behind him “Owwwww ok!I get it!”you let go
“Good. Come with me and put on a shirt.”
You were waiting for him in the dining room. Jungkook stopped in front of a chair and a table filled with food. You asked him to sit and he did.
“What is all of this?”he asked
“I am teaching you how to dine properly.”
You explained hand positioning and how to hold the utensils properly. It didn’t take his a long time to catch the drift and he soon was eating correctly. You were sitting next to him with your legs crossed and your chin into your palm. “You act and eat like a true gentleman now.”you smiled
“I finally got a compliment.” as you realized what had happened Jungkook tried to eat a cherry with a fork
“I think I should take it back.”
“What!”he pushed the utensil in too hard and the cherry flew towards you. In one swift motion you grabbed a small fork and the fruit was stabbed in mid air.
“This.”you placed it back in his plate “Is finger food.”he didn’t say anything and just left the room. You were looking as he was walking away, judging by his flashing phone-work.
You cleaned up the place and was thinking of making dinner for the both of you. As a celebration, he was doing so well after all. The beeping sound in your pocked surprised you for a second.
“Hello?”you asked
“Y/N!”the voice on the other side was talking fast loud and out of breath
“Carmine!”you threw the dish in the sick “What is going on there?!”
“We were attached. They are in the boss’s office! We need back up, NOW!” you were loosing the contention
“Who is there? Carmine who is attaching us?!”you were putting on your suit
“The first one that we saw was K-”you lost the connection
“Shit!’not very lady like, but right now this wasn't of importance
You ran out of the apartment building like it was on fire. Your legs carried you over to the closest Kingsman tailor. “NAMJOON!”you yelled out and pulled everyone’s attention towards you
“Y/N what is going on?”he ran over to you
“I need to get to headquarters NOW!” he pulled you to the capsule and send you off “Thank you.”you said and he waved
“She is coming.”Namjoon whispered into his earphone as he turned his back on the tunnel.
Once you stood up and walked out of the underground path you saw bodies everywhere. Blood on the walls and everything was executed perfectly.
“Joon do you hear me?”you asked
“Loud and clear.”he answered
“Whoever did this is not alone. “you pulled out your gun and started walking slowly and carefully looking around every corner, only to find more bodies.
“How many do you think?”he asked
“I don’t know, but it’s more than 3. I am positive.”the office door was wide open “The boss’s room is open. They must have hacked our interface to get the code.” you stepped inside and saw the chair “Sir?”you walked over and turned the chair around “Joon.”
“Yeah.”
“Mission failed.”
“Is he dead?!”
“Verified.”you said and grabbed your gun tighter as you looked around
“Get out of there.”Namjoon said calmly
“No, my job as a Kingsman is to stay until the end.”
“A lady must never talk back.”you heard a voice, your back straightened as you slowly turned around. Your eyes were closed until you were face to face with him. You looked at him, your body didn’t tremble, you didn’t say anything.
“You were trained exceptionally well. Not even a sign of shock, even when you are. I never expected to find such a Kingsman agent.” his voice no longer sweet “But a woman is as gentle as a flower, even you have a breaking point.”
“Why?”you simple asked “Why did you kill the boss and everyone else?”
“ A gentleman never tells about conquests, private matters, or dealings. His business is nobody else’s. “
“I would have been proud if you said that earlier today.”you said “How did you hack into the mainframe?”
“We have the best on our side.”
“Even if he is the world’s best, he needs to be on the inside.”you said
“Infiltrating is easy for him.” the smirk on his face said it all “he is very smart.”
“Y/N you should get out of there.”said Namjoon
“For how long?”you asked
“How long what?”the man looked at you
“For how long have you been on their side....Namjoon.” you aggressively took out the ear piece. The monitor next to you turned on and you saw him.
“Since I was raised there.”he looked at you “You were the smartest agent of all. I can’t believe they could’t see what potential you have.”
“So what now?”you asked “Are you going to kill me too?”
“We have our orders.”said Namjoon “But I am not there right now, only Jungkook is and the others. He decides.”the monitor turned off and the deadly silence took over again.
“I can’t believe I was this stupid.”you sighed “I opened myself up to the wrong person.”the gun was pointed towards his head
“I won’t kill you.”Jungkook said
“Fine. Then I will.” suddenly he walked over to you and grabbed the gun’s barrel, placing it onto his forehead
“Shoot.”he demanded , your finger on the trigger “Do it!”
*Bang!*
You fell to your knees with the weapon warm in your hand.It took you a few minutes you get back to your senses. You stood up and jumped out of the window, without looking back, to the nearest car you could find.
You could see the mansion in the mirror, getting farther and farther away from you. Should you cry?Should you yell? Both won’t help. You felt lied to. You parked the car in a random place that was near a Kingsman tailor. If only Namjoon wasn’t in the building, then everyone else was with Jungkook. You walked inside and started looking around. He wasn’t there, you thought that with even him gone there was no one else to trust.
“Y/N?”your body swung around and you saw his worried look
“Taehyung!”you jumped to hug him
“I went out for a second to buy something, what happened to you?!”he took you to the secret room that every Kingsman tailor shop had. You told him what had happened. He cupped your cheeks and made you look into his eyes.
“Don’t worry. Everything is over.”he pulled you into a hug

Butterfly Sit On Three Skull Spirit Of The Dearly Loved Figurine shirt
There’s a clip of Butterfly Sit On Three Skull Spirit Of The Dearly Loved Figurine shirt . an old home video of her mother smiling in an ornate printed red sari with a gilded lining and matching gold jewelry. It then cuts quickly to present-day Raveena wearing a contemporary version of that outfit. From those first frames, “Mama” functions as a bridge that connects her mother’s past to Raveena’s present. “Obviously it’s a song about my mom and my relationship with her, but I kind of wanted to look more deeply into the unique relationship we have as a first-generation immigrant,” Raveena says. “My own family comes from a lot of trauma—genocide in India—and they then came to Queens, so it was kind of telling her story. Unisex I was just writing the song wondering who she was before all of that happened, before she had me Butterfly Sit On Three Skull Spirit Of The Dearly Loved Figurine shirt . What were her biggest dreams?”The video, which director Danica Kleinknecht shot in Queens, combines true-to-life details with Raveena’s speculations about her mother’s aspirations. The team filmed on a street close to where her mother lived when she first immigrated in the late ’80s after the 1984 Sikh Massacre; the church that Raveena, her mother, and her grandmother all walk through is the very church where Raveena’s parents got married. Everyone featured is either a first- or second-generation immigrant friend of Raveena’s from New York, or a fan who had reached out to Raveena, who in turn asked them to be a part of the video. “We just wanted to capture real family moments. It’s not meant to be anything bigger. There’s no crazy concept we were going for,” Raveena says.Additional scenes of Raveena and her mother looking through gauzy textiles in the fabric store were also plucked from real life—Raveena’s mother is a fashion designer who worked with Calvin Klein in the ’90s and still creates custom couture pieces. She collaborates with Raveena on the colorful garments seen in her videos and onstage. “It’s a big part of our relationship, working together on clothes for my music now,” Raveena says. “She had such a big influence on my style growing up, and now I can come to her with anything, with really modern or new designers, or with this crazy ’70s Cher mood board that I just made, and we see how we can translate it all into a way that feels relevant to what I do. She has a really elegant concept with everything that she makes.” You Can See More Product: https://shirttrending.com/product-category/trending/ Read the full article

Genre : Action, romance, violence, Bottle Royal
Episodes: 11
Studio: Nexus
Mobile games are turning into a real bane. You think it’s all lighthearted casual fun, free to play easy to install and them before you know it they hit you with the small print. You’re just minding your own business and somehow you now owe 60$ in microtransactions for some game that isn’t even that fun or you know, or maybe you only had two hours sleep because you spent hours mindlessly tapping on a screen and letting your brain melt slowly, or somebody is trying to murder you. Any one of these things can just put a damper on your day. For Kaname it’s mostly the latter that has him down, especially since a couple of his good friends are dead now and he accidentally got roped into this whole thing without even knowing the rules. So how do you quit a real life free for all PvP? Not easily…
That’s kind of a weird title for my post… In case some of you don’t know King’s Game is an anime with an extremely similar premise which I watched a while ago and reviewed here: King’s Game – A Modern Transcendentalist Rallying Cry. I stand by that title! Grated the plot of both Darwin’s Game and King’s Game is sort of basic horror fodder right now so its not weird to find two similar animes but the second I started watching Darwin’s Game I was struck by just how many elements were pretty much identical. Even the title is almost the same. And since I didn’t enjoy King’s Game much, I was just about to drop Darwin’s Game when something made me stick around…
what could that thing be?
Now visually speaking Darwin’s Game is what I would qualify as competent. It’s not bad. The ladies are very pretty and have very pretty eyes. The boys are much less interesting in design and for me, less attractive, but they get the point across. The backgrounds are similarly forgettable but functional and a lot of attention is given to floor plans and layouts to really coordinate the virtual space with the action which I thought was a very nice touch.
I don’t have much to say about sound design and apart from a few classic tropes the non verbal storytelling was rather minimal. It’s an o.k. looking show which most people are not likely to remember for its production unless you happen to particularly like a specific character design or something.
Oddly though, this may have played in Darwin’s Game’s favour. This is a convoluted sentence but I really wanted to keep it…
You know what else I kept? Dozens of eye close ups!
Like I said, I almost dropped this show at the first episode, which is a double episode by the way so that 11 episode count is really 12 like most other shows. First the production is not bad in any way but for me didn’t have any particular element that would keep me watching. And the set up is so full of worn out horror tropes that I felt like I had seen this show before.
The basic premise is that there’s a mysterious mobile game that sort of appears on your phone and if you happen to open the app you automatically become a player in Darwin’s Game. It’s a sort of Battle Royal in which players kill each other for fabulous prizes and indecent sums of money. There is a lot of techno-magic going on that ensures non players are never in the way and players can have supernatural abilities called sigils. When every man nice guy (standard protagonist) Kaname finds the app on his own phone he suddenly gets sucked into a never ending fight for survival and manages to collect both allies and foes along the way.
Now King’s Game does differ in the fact that the mobile app gives you random and increasingly gruesome tasks to accomplish in order to survive (or else you are supernaturally killed) instead of sucking you into battles to the death, but the tone and effects are very similar. The character archetypes are pretty much the same as well and the early story was progressing along the same narrative beats and plot points. You have to understand, I really didn’t like King’s Game much and found it a chore to finish so these commonalities were giving me very serious pause.
I have a bad feeling about this
However, after seeing that Darwin’s Game had a much better rating than King’s Game I decided to stick around only out of curiosity. I find that sometimes two very similar shows can have very different ratings and it’s always fascinating to me. However, after episode 2, it became very apparent that these were wildly different shows and one was clearly better.
I know merely comparing two shows is not much of a review but I really did enjoy the exercise of figuring out why one worked for me while the other didn’t and I think sharing that with you will help you get an idea of what type of show Darwin’s Game is.
First thing that I think really helped Darwin’s Game is the shift from Horror to Action. Now Darwin’s Game is a very violent anime and occasionally quite gruesome about it. A lot of the deaths are bloody, onscreen and the victims are often very young or more or less innocent. It has just as much gore and suspense as any horror series I have seen but that’s not what the plot chooses to emphasize. Instead of slow moody scenes meant to built up tension we have quick moving action that rarely broods on the tragedy and dread of the situation.
no hard feelings
This in turn changes the character archetypes and the way the story treats them. People in Darwin’s Game get over things pretty easily and quickly. They have to, they don’t have time to be all gloomy. Which means the overall tone is a lot more happy go lucky in spite of everything that is going on. The story also becomes much more plot driven with the appeal being trying to figure out who is behind the game and why it exists rather than character driven with the audience breathlessly hoping our heroes will survive.
This means a bit less development for the cast in favour of more daredevil plans and twists along the way. And I think that this is what works best in this type of story. It also means the characters don,t have to be as helpless or sympathetic since their deaths aren’t the focus of the narrative. They can survive, and kick some behind along the way. They can also be kind of ruthless in their own right with a lot of the essentially innocent character deaths being of their doing. Hey, it’s a kill or be killed world out there. For me this meant that despite having less time devoted to character backstory, motivation or development, they seemed more complex and well rounded (if rather unhinged).
Finally, the fact that the story relies on a lot of well established tropes and fairly basic production also served in efficiently getting me quickly hooked into the action. We all know the basic concept of a Battle Royal, all these people suddenly rapped into this kill to survive situation. It’s a familiar premise that doesn’t really need much explanation or justification at this point. And motivation becomes inherent as well. All these characters are acting this way because they don’t want to die. Great, I get it, I relate, I also would probably not want to die!
getting pixelated seems bad
Smartly Darwin’s Game doesn’t waste any time reexplaining concepts that are by now well known by most of the audience and instead just concentrates and the few tidbits of information that are unique to the show giving the series a more individual feel than it would have otherwise and makes the characters fun and fun to watch instead of bothering with explaining their thought process. The visuals and sound design are the type of stuff anime fans have seen so often that they don’t interfere in any way. There is no overload and no distractions. You get thrown right into the story and then it just never stops for the entire run. And that more or less nonstop action is done very well.
Every time an episode ended I really wanted to know what happens next. Darwin’s Game didn’t affect me in any deep way or stir up my emotions or anything, personally I liked all the characters but didn’t really care anyone specifically. My favourite is chosen mostly on character design. But I was really entertained for the entire run. I should say I finished the series in 3 days and even without being able to directly compare I’m rather confident that Darwin’s Game is the type of show that is really at it’s best when taken in in consecutive more or less uninterrupted viewings. The momentum is really what it has going for it and I have a feeling that if you break it, the series becomes considerably less interesting.
So what I’m saying in short if that Darwin’s Game wasn’t the same as King’s Game…
Favourite character: Rein – obviously
What this anime taught me: nothing – I already knew butterflies are evil
If you don’t drink, how will your friends know you love them at 2 a.m.?
Suggested drink: Game Set Match
Every time we see a butterfly – shiver
Every time anyone says “sigil” – take a sip
Every time the game sends a push notification – go to the settings
Every time Kaname dodes – take a sip
Every time Shuka is merciless – think about your priorities
Every time Kaname is considered outstanding – be confused
Every time Kaname hears his inner voice – take a sip
Every time Sui and Sota switch – take a sip
Every time someone makes a noble sacrifice – get a snack
Every time Rein figures it out – cheer
Every time we see Wang – take a sip
Like I said the lady character designs are very cute, let me show you what I mean:
Darwin’s Game is not the same as King’s Game Genre : Action, romance, violence, Bottle Royal Episodes: 11 Studio: Nexus Mobile games are turning into a real bane.

If I’m stepping out, a pair of blue jeans and a white tee are just fine. – Genelia D’Souza • At the beginning of my career I was going through a really weird phase of dressing in boys clothes. She supposed you could, if you had a working body half the time. “I swear, I’m going to start taking my clothes off!” The cold spot stayed resolutely put until she got the hem of her T-shirt all the way up to her bra line, and then faded away. “Chicken,” she said, and paced the room, back and forth. – Rachel Caine • Elegance is always in style for men. You also need the correct shirt and tie. – Dave Barry • I do think there is a completely different notion to glamour today. I think modern glamour is more effortless, easy, and real. Moreover, I think it’s about constantly challenging classical ideas by bringing in unexpected and different elements; for example a long, elegant evening skirt paired with a simple t-shirt on the red carpet. I think this approach is the future. – Roksanda Ilincic • I don’t believe in cancer walks. Well, I believe in them because they exist but I’d rather just give money straight up and save my Saturday afternoon. I can make my own t-shirt, that’s not incentive. Plus I don’t think cancer responds to how far people walk. I don’t think cancer’s sitting at home, ‘What? How many people walked how far? How many people walked how far wearing the same shirt? That’s crazy! I’m out of here!’ Remission. – Hannibal Buress • I don’t want to be carried out of a club wearing a tie-dye T-shirt and a cap on the wrong way around when I am 70, but I would like to settle down a bit. People are so lovely but you do find that when you’re out you spend 40% of your time posing for photographs. – Chris O’Dowd • I go from a full working day to making sure I am home for dinner with my kids. I couldn’t do that in a 10cm mini skirt but I am not going to resort to sweatpants and an old t-shirt. – Donatella Versace • I go outside, and I’m wearing a funky T-shirt and my hair is dirty, and people say, ‘What’s wrong with her? She needs to invest in a hairbrush.’ – Kristen Stewart • I got into music by happenchance and luck and wearing a t-shirt with “I hate Pink Floyd” on it. The irony has never failed to amuse me ever since because I didn’t hate Pink Floyd at all! And yet you have an entire range of people out there believing that the best thing you can do in life is to hate Pink Floyd. Come on, It’s because it’s the world I live in! – John Lydon • I hate formal stuff. I love looking like a doll and all that stuff and playing dress up, but when I’m home, sweat pants, t-shirt. When I’m in the studio, sweat pants, t-shirt. – Nicki Minaj • I hate ready-made suits, button-down collars, and sports shirts. – Bobby Fischer • I hate short hair on men – the ‘real’ man is something I don’t know. That was the uniform at home. – Lou Doillon • I have a few girlfriends, but nearly all my friends are guys. I don’t think I ever wore girl clothes. I wore baggy jeans, baggy T-shirts, sweaters, just to avoid the looks that everyone gives you when you’re a young female in the world. – Katharine Isabelle • I have always loved sneakers and sweaters, and I wear a lot of them. And a good t-shirt or a pair of jeans can make you feel so good. – Garance Dore • I have always loved sneakers and sweaters, and I wear a lot of them. That’s essentially how us bands survived was selling homemade t-shirts. – Steve Aoki • I have so much freedom to put whatever I want on a t-shirt, and it’s cool because I get a lot of fan feedback so I like to see what kids like to wear and I like to use some of their ideas to make t-shirts. – Jack Barakat • I have to be honest, I am a true jeans and t-shirt girl. – Emmanuelle Chriqui • I have to wear a new T-shirt every night. Fashion is such a personal journey for me. I’m much more of a girl that’s a T-shirt, legging, layering kind of thing, and outerwear. – Vera Wang • I might not wear chains or I may just wear a watch or I may not wear any jewelry at all or I may just go all out on an outfit or just rock some basic s*** just a pair of jeans, a t-shirt and ones. But, I still standout more than a lot of people in the room so I can’t really describe it but I know from the outside looking in people can explain better than I can. – Lil Herb • I myself identify as a recovering Blockhead. You’d be surprised how many twenty- and thirty-something hipster chicks have the NKOTB skeleton in their closet, albeit artfully concealed by stacks of Ksubi skinny jeans and ironic Judas Priest T-shirts. – Diablo Cody • I noticed that difference early on, like if you were successful in rock ‘n’ roll, that was a really bad thing, you almost had to hide it. You had these guys selling 200 million records with dirty T-shirts on. I was like, ‘Come on, man. Come on. We know you’re successful.’ Hip-hop is more about attaining wealth. People respect success. They respect big. They don’t even have to like your music. If you’re big enough, people are drawn to you. – Jay-Z • I really like the idea of being utilitarian. My dream is to edit down my wardrobe and be very Japanese, where you have one rolling rack and it’s like your four T-shirts, your five dresses, your two pairs of jeans. – Erin Wasson • I remember from when I use to be a dancer, there is an expression among dancers, I had a T-shirt that said: SHUT UP AND DANCE. – Christopher Walken • I remember getting a Phoenix Suns T-shirt. I saw this one girl sitting in front of the venue, and she made this pink T-shirt with a big heart in the middle of it and a misty picture of our guitarist Mark [Potter]. She was so embarrassed when she saw me. And I was trying desperately not to laugh. – Guy Garvey • I remember watching Mike [Michael Jordan]. I remember him having a royal blue blazer and all black t-shirt and he came out of a blue Corvette. That was dope to us. We were like, ‘Yo, Michael killed today.’ He didn’t even talk to the media and walked straight into the arena. Everyday’s like Mike. – Iman Shumpert • I sat up in bed. My T-shirt was soaking wet. My pillow was wet. My hair was wet. And my room was sticky and humid. – Kami Garcia • I saw a transvestite wearing a T-shirt that said ‘Guess’. – Demetri Martin • I saw School of Rock, and I was like, why haven’t I worked with Richard Linklater already? I’ll get back to being a woman. But for now there’s a shirt, a giant shirt in my hands, and somewhere a small girl standing next to her mother watching to see how it’s done. – Tess Gallagher • I tend not to wear ties very often. I’m usually in old stuff: Hermes or Marc Jacobs boots and jeans and a T-shirt and a leather jacket or a jean jacket. – Nate Berkus • I think for a lot of people, bowling is sort of a joke. But I love it, and it means a lot to me, so any chance to help promote it or celebrate it or not make the hackiest jokes – ‘Bowlers are like plumbers and they wear the craziest shirts!’ – I’m way into. – Chris Hardwick • I think somebody like Wes [Anderson] has a very good sense of style and is original. I think my sense of style got a little bit better after I was exposed to you guys at Valentino. Because I’m just in Hawaii and Malibu; it’s just kind of T-shirts and surfing-type stuff. – Owen Wilson • I think someone’s biggest competition is themselves. I stand out as a ‘fashion’ designer and not to be confused with, (people who call themselves ‘clothing’ designers, who just print designs or logos on pre-existing t-shirts), because what I have created is custom fashions that are a personal extension of myself and my personality. It’s pretty unique since there is only one of me. – Ashley Purdy • I think the first thing we need to talk about is you not running around in tight T-shirts and yoga pants.” “Fine. I’ll stop doing that as soon as you shave.” Jack ran his hand along his jaw and grinned. “You like the scruff, huh?” Did she ever. – Julie James • I think the worst professional advice I’ve received… I feel I’ve been lucky in that I’ve gotten a lot of wonderful guidance, but I remember – and I would never do this to someone – I remember going into a manager’s office, the manager I had in New York, and this was way back when. And she said to me, immediately, “You should never wear striped T-shirts. You look much bigger than you are.” – June Diane Raphael • I think there’s a percentage [of the audience] that don’t realize, that don’t know that [standup] is how everything began. We planned it, we work hard, rehearsals to get this. It’s more of a … it’s not just coming in there in a T-shirt and holding a microphone. – Tim Allen • I think we were promoting New Moon just as I was finishing The Runaways, and I remember going to Comic-Con with a Minor Threat T-shirt on. I was really happy and excited to be there, but I was so defensive and crazy. – Kristen Stewart • I used to wear sleeveless T-shirts all the time on court, but now I’ve got a brand new look – I’ve moved on to polo shirts. Sleeveless T-shirts give you real freedom of movement and they keep you cooler in matches, but I just thought it was time for a change. – Rafael Nadal • I want to prove that he’s wrong – he’s wearing a t-shirt that says he won the last two fights. – Manny Pacquiao • I want young people to be able to buy into what I design. When I was young, I wanted to buy designer brands even if all I could afford was the cheapest wallet, the cheapest pen, the cheapest T-shirt because I wanted to be a part of it. – Nicola Formichetti • I wanted to go on the red carpet with a baseball cap, t-shirt, and jeans. And I still do. Because that’s really who I am. – Missy Peregrym • I wanted to start a menswear line of slim-fitting, luxury cashmere jumpers in a range of great colors. I know these jumpers will become season-less staples in my own wardrobe. Cashmere and silk printed scarves and hand-beaded T-shirts compliment the line and form a solid foundation for the collection to grow next season. – Matthew Williamson • I was in New York last Christmas – it’s snowing; there’s a guy in a t-shirt. I’m like, ‘Dude, aren’t you cold?’ ‘No, I’m from New York. I don’t get cold.’ Just ’cause you’re from a cold place doesn’t mean you’re genetically predisposed to not feeling cold. You’re not a penguin. I was like, ‘In fact, sir, you’re Puerto Rican, so if anything, you should be more cold. – Iliza Shlesinger • I was so involved in my boy-rhythms that I never came to grips with the fact that I was a girl. I was twelve years old when my mother took me inside and said, “You can’t be outside wrestling without a T-shirt on.” It was a trauma. – Patti Smith • I watched him pull his t-shirt over his head. I could put hin on replay doing that and watch it all day. – Tammara Webber • I wear jeans and a T-shirt sometimes. I just like clothes – since the first time I can remember, like age ten or eleven; I was just obsessed with music and clothes. Just like a lot of people in England from my generation. – Paul Weller • I wear my Peggy Fleming T-shirt when I go to sleep every night before I compete, and for the past four years, it’s brought me incredible good luck. – Sarah Hughes • I would never talk to a girl in a bar, like a pick-up thing. But I could talk to anyone if they wore a t-shirt of a band I like. – Craig Finn • If I ever wear a Chelsea shirt, you have permission to kill me. – Cesc Fabregas • If I haven’t put that on a T-shirt, I’m going to. Actually, I really don’t want to write anything that can’t be put on a T-shirt. Actually I’d like to write only on T-shirts. Actually, I’d like to write whole novels on T-shirts. So you guys could say, ‘I’m wearing chapter 8 of Lestat’s new book, that’s my favorite; oh I see you’re wearing chapter 6- – Anne Rice • If I was left to my own devices, you would see about ten T-shirts in rotation with maybe a few nice pairs of jeans – but I also like to look good. I like feeling really well put together, I just don’t have the aptitude and the knowledge to do that. – Daniel Radcliffe • If I were Osama, and the United States government were actually looking for me, I’d be clean-shaven by now, crewcutted, wearing jeans and a ZZ Top T-shirt, and living in a nice little house in Lincoln, Nebraska. – L. Neil Smith • If life hands you lemons,keep them. Because, hey, free lemons.-T-Shirt – Darynda Jones • If you have a counterculture band, you put a name on it, you call them beatniks, and you can sell something – books or bebop. You do know it cost money have a house? You do know it cost money to eat? Get money, don’t let these people fool you. – DJ Khaled • You know, being in a rock band, you can’t overdo the costume changes too much because everyone thinks, oh, that’s not a real rock band. Look how many times he changes costumes. That’s not rock. Rock’s about going on in a T-shirt and staying in it and getting it all dirty. But that’s not really my approach. – Mick Jagger • You might be a redneck if your favorite T-shirt is offensive in thirteen states. – Jeff Foxworthy • You should’ve gone to China, you know, ’cause I hear they give away babies like free iPods. • A clothing company is making T-shirts inspired by Bernie Sanders with messages like ‘Feel the Bern.’ They were gonna make them for Lincoln Chafee too, but no one wants to wear a shirt that says ‘Feel the Chafee.’ – Jimmy Fallon • Alice was scrutinizing my boring jeans-and-a-T-shirt outfit in a way that made me self-conscious. Probably plotting another makeover. I sighed. My indifferent attitude to fashion was a constant thorn in her side. If I’d allow it, she’d love to dress me everyday―perhaps several times a day―like some oversized three-dimensional paper doll. – Stephenie Meyer • All fashion brands are about looking good. Being Human is also about doing good. And you can do good by the simple act of slipping into a t-shirt or a pair of jeans. – Salman Khan • All of my life, actually, I had a real strong relationship with God, but I was always in the closet about it. The only distance out of the closet I really want to come there is having my tattoo or wearing my t-shirt. – Sinead O’Connor • All true wisdom is found on T-shirts. – Abraham Lincoln • And of course there is nothing better than wearing the same T-shirt for days and not brushing my hair for weeks. – Daria Werbowy • And, the sets that they built are just so beautiful. It’s like going to a completely foreign country and experiencing a new culture that you’ve never seen before, especially at Camelot. It’s just so magical. Personally, it’s just so much more interesting than wearing jeans and a t-shirt, and walking around somebody else’s house. – Tamsin Egerton • Anormal day looks like, you know, shower, put on the same jeans, the same tattered Gucci loafers I got at the thrift store, white socks, and my t-shirt and my very beat-up Helmut Lang blazer. Im in the exact same outfit every day. – Natasha Lyonne • Antarctica, one of the things that was so remarkable about it was that the ice itself is a kind of pure geometry, so say, for example, if I was facing someone wearing I don’t know, a Joy Division t-shirt with the mountains on it or something like that. – DJ Spooky • At home, a T-shirt and something loose like harem pants would do. If I’m stepping out, a pair of blue jeans and a white tee are just fine. – Genelia D’Souza • At the beginning of my career I was going through a really weird phase of dressing in boys clothes. I would only wear one American Apparel T-shirt and shorts and brogues the whole year round. Not the same T-shirt, obviously, but one style of American Apparel T-shirt. I think I was going through a tomboy stage. – Florence Welch (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

• Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. – Steig Larsson • Being a good Hans Haacke student, part of his influence on me is that there’s no difference between a gallery show and a film – or even an ad and a T-shirt-in terms of cultural legitimacy. They’re just different contexts in which to have some sort of communication. – Mike Mills • Britney Spears became my talisman. I became obsessed with wearing Britney T-shirts. I felt it would bring me luck. And it did. – Madonna Ciccone • But in some ways, I’m like an old woman – lived it, seen it, done it, been there, have the T-shirt. – Drew Barrymore Cassandra Clare • Christian stretched out beside her and pulled her close. ʺBut for what itʹs worth, I think youʹd be a great queen too, Princess Dragomir.ʺ ʺYouʹre going to get dirty,ʺ she warned. ʺAlready am. Oh, you mean from your clothes?ʺ He wrapped his arms around her, heedless of her damp and muddy state. ʺI spent most of my childhood hiding in a dusty attic and own exactly one dress shirt. You really think I care about this T-shirt?ʺ – Richelle Mead • Come on, Ella. Sleep green.’ Ignoring him, I got into bed wearing a T-shirt and boxer shorts printed with penguins. I reached over to the nightstand and flipped off the lamp. A moment of silence, and then I heard a lecherous murmur. ‘I like your penguins. – Lisa Kleypas • Dammit, Michael, get out of my room, you pervert!” Could you even be a pervert if you were dead? She supposed you could, if you had a working body half the time. “I swear, I’m going to start taking my clothes off!” The cold spot stayed resolutely put until she got the hem of her T-shirt all the way up to her bra line, and then faded away. “Chicken,” she said, and paced the room, back and forth. – Rachel Caine • Elegance is always in style for men. Burroughs • For Christmas one year I bought my son a BB gun. He bought me a t-shirt with a bulls eye on the back. – Rodney Dangerfield • Forget trendy designer labels. When it’s just right, when you don’t see the effort, it’s irresistible. – Emmanuelle Alt • From the season I did the butterfly faux tattoos on the models on the runway, every collection we do has to have a butterfly t-shirt or trim or print. People come to me for butterflies! – Anna Sui • Generally speaking, I’m a jeans, T-shirt and boots man but I do own an Armani suit, which gets a regular outing. It’s nothing fancy – just a classic, well-cut suit with clean lines and beautiful tailoring. It’s timeless and you can mix and match it with anything to dress up or dress down. – Matthew Rhys • Green business is not about tie-dyed T-shirts. It’s about transforming the industrial system itself into one that looks at all the connections. – Paul Hawken • He also knows what king of protein I like, what T-shirts I like, how I like my dry cleaning to be done. Instead of Bermuda shorts and a T-shirt, he wore a button-down shirt, khaki pants, and leather loafers. His sandy hair, which used to be so unruly, was now clipped short. I used to have T-shirts that said ‘Dierks of Hazzard’ custom-made.- Dierks Bentley • I always find it difficult to dress in between seasons, but I quite like putting T-shirts on with a vest over the top and another layer so you can peel them back as the day goes on. – Poppy Delevingne • I am inspired by anything beautiful. Sometime it’s a pair of eyes or flowing gorgeous hair, other times it’s the sky or a sunset. I’ve been inspired by supple skin or the texture of a soft shirt. – Nadine Velazquez • I am of the generation of segregation. Black Lives Matter is post. I said today, and I will say all the time, “If Nina [Simone] were here, she’d have her Black Lives Matter [T-shirt] on.” I think they’re great kids. They don’t need me or anybody else to tell them what to do. – Nikki Giovanni • I borrowed this from Kyle. My other shirt was pretty filthy.” “Wow, you’re wearing each other’s clothes now. That’s, like, best friend stuff.” “Feeling left out?” said Kyle. “I suppose you want to borrow a black T-shirt too.” “As long as everyone’s wearing their own pants.” “I see have come in on a fascinating moment in the conversation.” Eric poked his head through the curtain. – Cassandra Clare • I could get a T-shirt that says ‘All in for Week 4 of the Preseason.’ That’s not quite as catchy, and I don’t have an endorsement deal with an apparel company. Maybe someone will sign me now. I don’t make enough money to get fined. You also need the correct shirt and tie. – Dave Barry • I do think there is a completely different notion to glamour today. I think modern glamour is more effortless, easy, and real. Moreover, I think it’s about constantly challenging classical ideas by bringing in unexpected and different elements; for example a long, elegant evening skirt paired with a simple t-shirt on the red carpet. I think this approach is the future. – Roksanda Ilincic • I don’t believe in cancer walks. Well, I believe in them because they exist but I’d rather just give money straight up and save my Saturday afternoon. I can make my own t-shirt, that’s not incentive. Plus I don’t think cancer responds to how far people walk. I don’t think cancer’s sitting at home, ‘What? How many people walked how far? How many people walked how far wearing the same shirt? That’s crazy! I’m out of here!’ Remission. – Hannibal Buress • I don’t want to be carried out of a club wearing a tie-dye T-shirt and a cap on the wrong way around when I am 70, but I would like to settle down a bit. She needs to invest in a hairbrush.’ – Kristen Stewart • I got into music by happenchance and luck and wearing a t-shirt with “I hate Pink Floyd” on it. The irony has never failed to amuse me ever since because I didn’t hate Pink Floyd at all! And yet you have an entire range of people out there believing that the best thing you can do in life is to hate Pink Floyd. Come on, It’s because it’s the world I live in! – John Lydon • I hate formal stuff. I love looking like a doll and all that stuff and playing dress up, but when I’m home, sweat pants, t-shirt. When I’m in the studio, sweat pants, t-shirt. – Nicki Minaj • I hate ready-made suits, button-down collars, and sports shirts. – Bobby Fischer • I hate short hair on men – the ‘real’ man is something I don’t know. My dad was always playing with hairbands, making rings, while the women were wearing jeans, white T-shirts and Converse. That was the uniform at home. – Lou Doillon • I have a few girlfriends, but nearly all my friends are guys. I don’t think I ever wore girl clothes. I wore baggy jeans, baggy T-shirts, sweaters, just to avoid the looks that everyone gives you when you’re a young female in the world. – Katharine Isabelle • I have always loved sneakers and sweaters, and I wear a lot of them. And a good t-shirt or a pair of jeans can make you feel so good. – Garance Dore • I have always loved sneakers and sweaters, and I wear a lot of them. That’s essentially how us bands survived was selling homemade t-shirts. – Steve Aoki • I have so much freedom to put whatever I want on a t-shirt, and it’s cool because I get a lot of fan feedback so I like to see what kids like to wear and I like to use some of their ideas to make t-shirts. – Jack Barakat • I have to be honest, I am a true jeans and t-shirt girl. – Emmanuelle Chriqui • I have to wear a new T-shirt every night. Cast • I know that’s an endorsement I’ve been waiting for,” Skye added. “Perfectly adequate in bed. They should make that into a T-shirt – Susan Mallery • I like fashion because it’s sort of my job, so I’m into it when I have to be. But when I’m not working, I wear jeans and T-shirts. Really just laid back, sort of rock and roll. I’m a sneaker person. I don’t really like to wear high heels. Fashion is such a personal journey for me. I’m much more of a girl that’s a T-shirt, legging, layering kind of thing, and outerwear. – Vera Wang • I might not wear chains or I may just wear a watch or I may not wear any jewelry at all or I may just go all out on an outfit or just rock some basic s*** just a pair of jeans, a t-shirt and ones. But, I still standout more than a lot of people in the room so I can’t really describe it but I know from the outside looking in people can explain better than I can. – Lil Herb • I myself identify as a recovering Blockhead. You’d be surprised how many twenty- and thirty-something hipster chicks have the NKOTB skeleton in their closet, albeit artfully concealed by stacks of Ksubi skinny jeans and ironic Judas Priest T-shirts. – Diablo Cody • I noticed that difference early on, like if you were successful in rock ‘n’ roll, that was a really bad thing, you almost had to hide it. You had these guys selling 200 million records with dirty T-shirts on. I was like, ‘Come on, man. Come on. We know you’re successful.’ Hip-hop is more about attaining wealth. People respect success. They respect big. They don’t even have to like your music. If you’re big enough, people are drawn to you. – Jay-Z • I really like the idea of being utilitarian. My dream is to edit down my wardrobe and be very Japanese, where you have one rolling rack and it’s like your four T-shirts, your five dresses, your two pairs of jeans. – Erin Wasson • I remember from when I use to be a dancer, there is an expression among dancers, I had a T-shirt that said: SHUT UP AND DANCE. – Christopher Walken • I remember getting a Phoenix Suns T-shirt. I saw this one girl sitting in front of the venue, and she made this pink T-shirt with a big heart in the middle of it and a misty picture of our guitarist Mark [Potter]. She was so embarrassed when she saw me. And I was trying desperately not to laugh. – Guy Garvey • I remember watching Mike [Michael Jordan]. I remember him having a royal blue blazer and all black t-shirt and he came out of a blue Corvette. That was dope to us. We were like, ‘Yo, Michael killed today.’ He didn’t even talk to the media and walked straight into the arena. Everyday’s like Mike. – Iman Shumpert • I sat up in bed. My T-shirt was soaking wet. My pillow was wet. My hair was wet. And my room was sticky and humid. – Kami Garcia • I saw a transvestite wearing a T-shirt that said ‘Guess’. – Demetri Martin • I saw School of Rock, and I was like, why haven’t I worked with Richard Linklater already? But for now there’s a shirt, a giant shirt in my hands, and somewhere a small girl standing next to her mother watching to see how it’s done. – Tess Gallagher • I tend not to wear ties very often. I’m usually in old stuff: Hermes or Marc Jacobs boots and jeans and a T-shirt and a leather jacket or a jean jacket. – Nate Berkus • I think for a lot of people, bowling is sort of a joke. But I love it, and it means a lot to me, so any chance to help promote it or celebrate it or not make the hackiest jokes – ‘Bowlers are like plumbers and they wear the craziest shirts!’ – I’m way into. – Chris Hardwick • I think somebody like Wes [Anderson] has a very good sense of style and is original. I think my sense of style got a little bit better after I was exposed to you guys at Valentino. Because I’m just in Hawaii and Malibu; it’s just kind of T-shirts and surfing-type stuff. – Owen Wilson • I think someone’s biggest competition is themselves. I stand out as a ‘fashion’ designer and not to be confused with, (people who call themselves ‘clothing’ designers, who just print designs or logos on pre-existing t-shirts), because what I have created is custom fashions that are a personal extension of myself and my personality. It’s pretty unique since there is only one of me. – Ashley Purdy • I think the first thing we need to talk about is you not running around in tight T-shirts and yoga pants.” “Fine. I’ll stop doing that as soon as you shave.” Jack ran his hand along his jaw and grinned. “You like the scruff, huh?” Did she ever. – Julie James • I think the worst professional advice I’ve received… I feel I’ve been lucky in that I’ve gotten a lot of wonderful guidance, but I remember – and I would never do this to someone – I remember going into a manager’s office, the manager I had in New York, and this was way back when. And she said to me, immediately, “You should never wear striped T-shirts. You look much bigger than you are.” – June Diane Raphael • I think there’s a percentage [of the audience] that don’t realize, that don’t know that [standup] is how everything began. We planned it, we work hard, rehearsals to get this. It’s more of a … it’s not just coming in there in a T-shirt and holding a microphone. – Tim Allen • I think we were promoting New Moon just as I was finishing The Runaways, and I remember going to Comic-Con with a Minor Threat T-shirt on. I was really happy and excited to be there, but I was so defensive and crazy. – Kristen Stewart • I used to wear sleeveless T-shirts all the time on court, but now I’ve got a brand new look – I’ve moved on to polo shirts. Sleeveless T-shirts give you real freedom of movement and they keep you cooler in matches, but I just thought it was time for a change. – Rafael Nadal • I want to prove that he’s wrong – he’s wearing a t-shirt that says he won the last two fights. – Manny Pacquiao • I want young people to be able to buy into what I design. When I was young, I wanted to buy designer brands even if all I could afford was the cheapest wallet, the cheapest pen, the cheapest T-shirt because I wanted to be a part of it. – Nicola Formichetti • I wanted to go on the red carpet with a baseball cap, t-shirt, and jeans. And I still do. Because that’s really who I am. – Missy Peregrym • I wanted to start a menswear line of slim-fitting, luxury cashmere jumpers in a range of great colors. I know these jumpers will become season-less staples in my own wardrobe. Cashmere and silk printed scarves and hand-beaded T-shirts compliment the line and form a solid foundation for the collection to grow next season. – Matthew Williamson • I was in New York last Christmas – it’s snowing; there’s a guy in a t-shirt. I’m like, ‘Dude, aren’t you cold?’ ‘No, I’m from New York. I don’t get cold.’ Just ’cause you’re from a cold place doesn’t mean you’re genetically predisposed to not feeling cold. I could put hin on replay doing that and watch it all day. – Tammara Webber • I wear jeans and a T-shirt sometimes. I just like clothes – since the first time I can remember, like age ten or eleven; I was just obsessed with music and clothes. Just like a lot of people in England from my generation. – Paul Weller • I wear my Peggy Fleming T-shirt when I go to sleep every night before I compete, and for the past four years, it’s brought me incredible good luck. – Sarah Hughes • I would never talk to a girl in a bar, like a pick-up thing. But I could talk to anyone if they wore a t-shirt of a band I like. – Craig Finn • If I ever wear a Chelsea shirt, you have permission to kill me. – Cesc Fabregas • If I haven’t put that on a T-shirt, I’m going to. Actually, I really don’t want to write anything that can’t be put on a T-shirt. Actually I’d like to write only on T-shirts. Actually, I’d like to write whole novels on T-shirts. So you guys could say, ‘I’m wearing chapter 8 of Lestat’s new book, that’s my favorite; oh I see you’re wearing chapter 6- – Anne Rice • If I was left to my own devices, you would see about ten T-shirts in rotation with maybe a few nice pairs of jeans – but I also like to look good. I like feeling really well put together, I just don’t have the aptitude and the knowledge to do that. – Daniel Radcliffe • If I were Osama, and the United States government were actually looking for me, I’d be clean-shaven by now, crewcutted, wearing jeans and a ZZ Top T-shirt, and living in a nice little house in Lincoln, Nebraska. – L. But that’s not really my approach. – Mick Jagger • You might be a redneck if your favorite T-shirt is offensive in thirteen states. – Jeff Foxworthy • You should’ve gone to China, you know, ’cause I hear they give away babies like free iPods. You know, they pretty much just put them in those t-shirt guns and shoot them out at sporting events. – Ellen Page • You wouldn’t know a clue if it danced in front of you with a T-Shirt that read ‘I’m a clue – Eoin Colfer • Your best T-shirt should be like your bed, it just feels like you are home when you are in it. – Ashton Kutcher • You’re nothing but an apple, a silly t-shirt, a catchphrase and a stupid haircut. – Randy Orton • You’ve never told me about your love life, Scarlett. You’re a very pretty girl. You must have a boy shacked up somewhere for your personal delights. I’d bet it’s a booky one, overtones of Harry Potter and a lot of black T-shirts.- Maureen Johnson

The Books on My Bookshelf
#Poop4U
Holy moly, Batman, the books on my night stand are piling up. Here’s a sample:
OUR DOGS OURSELVES,  by Alexandra Horowitz. (Released September 3rd, but available for pre order.) This thoughtful book by the author of The Inside of a Dog and Being a Dog deserves to be read by dog lovers everywhere. I say that, full disclosure, not having read the entire book yet. An “advance readers edition” came several weeks ago, and I will admit to, at first, feeling a bit wary of how much new information it would contain. But then I started reading it, and this is, bravely and insightfully, a book that goes far beyond the usual musings about our relationship with dogs.
One early chapter is titled “Owning Dogs,” and explores our contradictory relationship with dogs–legally defined as property and yet considered by many of us to be family members and best friends. I’ve said in the past that if someone took one of my dogs it would be kidnapping, not stealing. But that’s not what the laws says. This is an issue that we’ve never adequately addressed, involving many complicated considerations, and I appreciate Horowitz’s attempts to continue a conversation about it.
Another chapter looks at our country’s spay and neuter practices–no controversy there (!). The author takes this issue on full frontal:
“For me simply to bring up the topic of de-sexing for discussion will be, in the eyes of some, impermissible. So sacred is the policy–so heartfelt (and good-hearted) is the intent behind it–that one is almost not allowed to talk about it.”
But of course, she does, and asks us to look carefully at costs and benefits of our current belief in whole-scale spaying and neutering. (Note this other article that looks at the costs of spay-neuter policies.
Our Dogs, Ourselves also takes on the biology and ethics of current breeding practices, among other topics, so expect to be engaged.  Horowitz faces these controversial issues head on, and I love her for it. In subsequent posts I’ll no doubt talk about these issues, perhaps agreeing or disagreeing with the author, but grateful nonetheless that she is talking about them.
Last thing: Horowitz or her editors deserve an award for “best titles ever,” after The Inside of a Dog (from Mark Twain’s “Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read.”)  Our Dogs, Ourselves is, of course, reminiscent of Our Bodies, Ourselves. Kudos.
TRANSFORMING TRAUMA:  Resilience and Healing Through Our Connections with Animals, edited by Philip Tedeschi and Molly Anne Jenkins.
Well, this is a fundamental switch from a book like the one above, but I highly recommend it to people who are interested in trauma recovery, especially in relation to animal-assisted interactions and therapy. Those of you who have read The Education of Will are aware that trauma is a central theme is my life’s story, so this is a book that speaks to me professionally and personally. What I like about the book is its integration of kindness and benevolence, along with lots and lots of good, solid science that backs up what we know, and don’t know, about the impact of human-animal interactions in the recovery of trauma.
Actually, “The impact of human-animal interactions in the recovery of trauma” is title of the first chapter, whose lead author is Marguerite O’Haire (who I refer to as “The Woman Whose Talks Should Never Be Missed”). Seriously, this chapter is worth the price of the book for its summary of evidence-based research, and introducing (to most of us), the concept of “bio-affiliative safety”, in which other animals allow trauma victims to turn off their vigilance and mechanisms of defense.
This is not beach reading. For example, in Chapter One, relating to bio-affiliative safety: “In Porges’ explorations of the polyvagal system and the concept of neuroception, we can begin to understand how the presence of a nonhuman animal interaction may offer critical information . . . “.
But that’s exactly why I am a fan of this work–we need to continue to push beyond the feel-good, rosy picture of all animals helping all people all the time, and support serious science that looks at exactly how, and how not, other animals can help us humans recover from trauma.
The other perspective that is vital in Transforming Trauma is its emphasis on never using animals in a way that discomforts or exploits them.  Here, here.
DOG BEHAVIOR, MODERN SCIENCE AND OUR CANINE COMPAIONS, by James Ha and Tracy Campion. Also not a beach reach, this book is a treasure trove of information for people who are interested in the integration of science and dog training. It includes a great deal of history and analysis of animal behavior studies, from Darwin’s interest in canine skulls, to cost-benefit analyses of decision making. It’s both practical (lots of stories from the author’s case studies) and theoretical (kin selection and dogs–who talks about that?).
What I love most about this book is based in part on my shared academic experience with one of the authors, James Ha. Both of us were trained as ethologists, and both of us spent years studying animal behavior in a general sense before we became involved in the dog world. I’ve always believed that to truly understand dog behavior, you need to understand the full range of behavior found in the animal world, so that you can put dogs in perspective. That’s exactly what this book does, and that’s why, for example, reading the chapter titled “Debunking Dominance: Canine social structure and behavioral ecology” is like a breath of fresh air. The chapter begins thus: “The social structure of a species, and hence their social behavior, is based upon resource distribution”. Oh, oh, music to my ears to see this in print. This is such an important concept to grasp, as is the fact that individuals of very closely related species can behave very differently, in part based on resource distribution. (Compare male-dominate chimps versus matriachal bonobos for example.)
Anyone who argues against “dominance or force-based training” would profit from reading this chapter, from its distinction between dominance and aggression, to the evidence that wolf packs in the wild are not “dominated by a alpha” but led by parent-like adults who take on roles of defense and hunting/provisioning, primarily based on sex.
There’s lots and lots more in this book, and I look forward to reading more of it, I’m thinking it will be a great way to start my every morning. (I tend to read fiction at night, non-fiction in the morning. You?)
GOOD AS A GIRL: A MEMOIR, by Ray Olderman. Ready for a paradigm shift? This book has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with dogs, but it holds a special place in my heart because it was written by a man who saved my soul in college. Quite literally. I was taking his class in literature at UW-Madison and working part time at the Primate Center. Long story, but at that time, the housing conditions for the monkeys at the Center were profoundly different than they are now. And pretty awful. When I went to the someone in charge to talk about what I felt were abuses, he literally told me “There is no biological evidence that monkeys can feel pain.” Yup, that’s what he said, in the mid 1980’s. I had thought that perhaps I could have some effect on the way the monkeys were treated, but it became clear that my ability to do so was negligible.
I couldn’t quit, I desperately needed the money, and I mean desperately. I could barely afford to eat. And yet working there violated everything I believed in. I stopped sleeping, and had a hard time just getting through the day. Ironically, in my literature class we were reading a book about a man who thought he could change a corrupt system by working within it, but was eventually destroyed by it. I finally went to see my professor, Ray Olderman and told him I was living the life we were reading about it. And it was killing me. And I couldn’t quit, I was beyond broke and there were no jobs available at that time of year. He hired me on the spot, finding some spare money to help him with grading. I will never forget it, and will always be grateful.
And so, I admit to a profound lack of objectivity about Ray’s book. But here’s the thing. I loved the book. Ray’s mother had wanted a girl, and had no pretense that she was disappointed when Ray turned out to be a boy. And so, at age eight, he vowed to her that he’d be “as good as a girl”. We follow Ray throughout his life trying to understand the female perspective while negotiating the complexities of Madison WI in the 70’s and 80’s during a time of profound cultural change.
If you’re interested in a delightful memoir about a guy who “couldn’t keep his mouth shut,”  fought the system all of his life while doing all he could to understand women, this book is for you.
MEANWHILE, back on the farm: This weekend seemed to be a celebration of small, flying animals. This bee and butterfly kept displacing each other until they finally settled into feeding on opposite sides of the Hyssop flower.
Here’s the butterfly by itself; it appears to be a species in the Checkerspot group, but I’m not confident to say which one exactly.
This is one of my favorite insects, a hummingbird moth. Check out the video in the link, it’s really fun.
And here’s the source of its mimicry, still finding nutrition in this tacky looking Bee Balm flower.
Swallowtails everywhere. Monarchs too, although I could never get a shot. I hear that Monarchs are doing better this summer (yay!), and it’s also wonderful to see so many bees out. Finally! The wet spring and early summer was so hard on them, and they have enough challenges right now.
What brought you joy this week, whether a new book, animals or plants? You know I’d love to hear.

Producer Michael Uslan on the impression of the Darkish Knight trilogy, why Batman movies are outlined by the director, not actor
http://tinyurl.com/y4mj2vml “Stan Lee was my mentor, my preferrred and he additionally turned my buddy. I met him first after I was 11 years previous. We additionally had an opportunity to work collectively. Stan is my inspiration in so many alternative methods, like doing what you like and dealing proper till you might be 95, or like my Batman associate Ben, till you might be 105. That’s sort of magical,” says Michael Uslan. Greatest recognized for bringing the primary Batman film to the massive display screen, Uslan shares a ardour for the Caped Crusader that’s unmatched. He’s additionally an avid comedian e book reader; he even labored at DC Comics. Within the first a part of our dialog on the superhero, we spoke about Hollywood studios, Tim Burton’s imaginative and prescient for Batman and the choice to forged Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton. Michael Uslan with Stan Lee Within the second half, we chat concerning the upcoming movies starring Joaquin Phoenix because the Joker and Robert Pattinson because the Batman, in addition to Uslan’s present initiatives. What are your views on Christopher Nolan’s Darkish Knight trilogy and the truth that it made Batman a world cultural phenomenon?  I consider Christopher Nolan made one Batman film, and he made it in three acts – Batman Begins, The Darkish Knight and The Darkish Knight Rises. Structurally it’s a stunning story advised over these three acts. Each setup has a payoff, each payoff has a setup, and each character has an arc. The battle between Batman and the Joker, which concerned the efficiency of a lifetime by Heath Ledger, actually made the world perceive that Nolan might be thought-about a genius. He elevated the comedian e book films. Whenever you stroll out of one among Chris Nolan’s Batman movies, you not must say ‘oh, that was an awesome comedian e book film’. You possibly can say, that was an awesome movie. His films had a magic contact to them. Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne. Twitter His films additionally impacted individuals within the post-9/11 period the place the world had turned from black and white to gray, the place good-vs-evil had became order-vs-chaos. It’s right here that Chris Nolan got here in with a mission to revive the dignity and darkness to Batman on display screen. He was capable of method it with a standpoint that was a stark distinction to that of Tim Burton in 1989. It was Chris’ goal to inform the world that his story and the characters in it may sadly be actual right this moment. Gotham Metropolis might be an actual place. He additionally needed to persuade audiences that Bruce Wayne is usually a actual younger man who’s on a journey of self discovery, or that the Joker is usually a modern-day terrorist. It was unimaginable that he was capable of totally and efficiently create all these roles. What’s your view on Joaquin Phoenix being forged because the Joker, and Robert Pattinson being forged as the brand new Batman? You’re speaking about two fantastic actors. The purpose I’d prefer to make is that earlier than you see a film, you don’t want to pay attention a lot on who this actor is, as a result of when it comes to Batman, the point of interest just isn’t a lot the actor versus who the filmmaker is. The actual fact is that in each Batman film, the star is the filmmaker. It’s not a lot about whether or not Tom Cruise or Kevin Costner is taking part in Batman. That’s not the purpose. The query that it’s a must to ask is, who’s the filmmaker? Does this filmmaker know the character, perceive the character, love the character and have a ardour for the character? Does the filmmaker have a imaginative and prescient for the character? In that case, then do you consider she or he can execute that imaginative and prescient? For those who consider that the filmmaker has that type of ardour and imaginative and prescient, then what it’s worthwhile to do is wait and watch them execute. See the movie after which decide the hell out of it. I’ve all the arrogance on this planet in each, the filmmaker personally and the filmmaker’s imaginative and prescient — for Todd Philips in Joker and Matt Reeves for The Batman. Joaquin Phoenix because the Joker. Twitter Todd is delivering essentially the most distinctive and totally different comedian e book film anybody has ever seen. I consider we reside in a world the place {the marketplace} for comedian books is a bit over-saturated. To have something that’s totally different and distinctive is an excellent factor. This film goes to evoke the temper of movie noir or a Martin Scorsese crime drama, reasonably than the standard comedian e book movie that we’re used to. Within the case of Matt Reeves, we’re going to see the Batman that I at all times lengthy for, which is the deal with his humanity, deal with the truth that he’s human and never simply anyone in an Ironman costume promoting toys. I feel that’s crucial. Since I’m an enormous Batman fan and a comic book geek, for me it couldn’t get extra thrilling than to see Batman or Bruce Wayne, who can also be the world’s biggest detective, depicted along with his detective skills as effectively. Which initiatives are you engaged on at the moment? Proper now, I’m doing one thing very enjoyable and thrilling. Everybody in India will admire this as a result of it’s based mostly on Archie Comics which has the most important market in India outdoors the US. Ten years in the past, I wrote the comedian e book Archie Will get Married and it turned out to be the highest promoting Archie comedian. My new comedian e book sequence and graphic novel commemorates the tenth anniversary of Archie Will get Married. We return and check out Archie getting married to Veronica. They’re all of their 30s and coping with a brand new era of children that folks don’t perceive, who’re continually on their cell telephones and their gadgets. We’re going to cope with points like careers, jobs, ageing dad and mom and all these issues that married individuals, of their 30s specifically, must cope with right this moment all around the globe. The primary situation goes on sale this August. We’re very enthusiastic about it. Dan Dad or mum is doing the paintings on this. With Archie gaining much more followers as a result of TV sequence Riverdale, lots of readers are wanting ahead to seeing what occurs to all people in Riverdale when Archie marries Veronica, after which taking one other look to see what is going to occur to all people’s lives when Archie marries Betty. It is the butterfly impact; all people’s lives change based mostly on the selections made by Archie, Betty and Veronica with regards to marriage. Have you ever been influenced by the Hollywood tradition? I had little interest in Hollywood tradition or taking part in that recreation. I’m simply doing what I really like. I raised my youngsters round my dad and mom and my household in New Jersey, distant from the insanity of Hollywood. After they turned adults, they selected to construct careers on their very own. The creator want to thank Anshuman Jain for his assist. Rahul Gupta is a film buff and leisure blogger who labored briefly at The Gotham Group in Hollywood. He writes continuously on common tradition, comedian books, world cinema, licensing, superheroes, OTT content material and books. That space wouldn’t be complete if you won’t add a floor standing reading lamp! This will aid you in reading when your ambient lights are off.
This list that we will show you today, will surely make you want to dream of a space that will invoke your creativity and dreams.
All you have to do is ask your designer to add this space to your bedroom design. I bet you’ll be more than eager to go home after work everyday just to enjoy the pleasures of your beautiful bedroom with a reading area and floor lamps, just like the ones on this list – check it out!
1. Tucson House Renovation
Patricia B. Warren, AIA Warren Architecture, LLC
First on our bedroom reading lamps list is a Tucson home designed by Patricia B. Warren. The design is a bit tropical for me because of the flooring and the ceiling fan. But all in all, I think that this is a contemporary space with a beautiful set-up and design.
2. St. Regis
Diane Paparo Associates
I am totally in awe of the wooden panel placed above the large bed. Multiple lighting are seen in the bedroom which isdirectional and task lighting. This means that they were placed there for function and secondary for style. Totally love the fact that this bedroom has an awesome view of the sea.
3. Queen Village Home
Hanson Fine Building
We see four lamps in this bedroom, two of which showcase task lighting – one for the bedside table and the other one for the chairs on the side. This is ideal for reading and for additional lighting when you have to finish something like a craft or whatnot. The light feeling that this bedroom has sure is calming and relaxing to look at.
4. Downtown Riverfront Condo
David Heide Design Studio
This condo sure has one stunning bedroom to brag about. The design seems your regular bedroom, but I think you and I would agree that this space was well-thought and well-planned to begin with. It has comfy furniture and beautiful decorations.

SEND ME A SYMBOL FOR… Status: Acceptin’
☁  five times my muse has thought about yours, and the one time they do something about it.
          [ I can’t count the times I almost said what’s on my mind   ]
1 -
It’s cold. The streets alive and windows warm with lights and passing shadows. The thrum of time square can be felt even from here. From where he stands, leaned to at the mouth of the alley across the street from their apartment. A perfect view of the party going on indoors. Where its warm and probably loud with laughing and music jacked up to high.
It makes him smile, despite the cold and the snow starting to fall again on the already covered concrete jungle. He won’t go in. Won’t make his presence known. Mostly…because he’s just too tired. He hadn’t lied when he said he’d had to work. He didn’t think he’d be back this soon. Shy two hours too midnight, and just under another after touch down. So he won’t go in. Dead on his feet as he is. He’d just wanted to stop by. Anonymously check in. Make sure that at least one of them were ringing in the new year like they should.
Because he worries. Always thinks on. Everything always comes back to Duck. And a sigh hangs in the frozen air before him, disrupted only when he moves to leave. Walking off down the sidewalk, with not but his foot prints to ever indicate he had been there at all.
2 -
It’s hot. Hot as the back side of jersey. Waves rising off the side walk outside. And though there’s fourteen fans, the ac blasting and shelter from the sunlight; it’s no damn different inside than it is out. Not with the bay doors open like they are; to keep the lot of them from dying from fume inhalation. Still it’s the cause of him working half blind on the engine he’s leaned over. But thank fuck for small favors because at this angle? He’s got one hell of a view of his surprise visitor.
What? Sue him. He’ll blame it on the heat later, when he’s feeling marginally guilty about it. But it’s also not entirely his fault or the weather’s. It’s Riley’s too. Nobody asked him to stand there, chatting it up with Vinnie while he waited for Bastian to finish up what he’s working on so they could go to lunch. Nobody asked him too look as good as he does in button ups and slacks. And definitely nobody for this heat wave to make all of that stick to skin in places that are straight up sin.
Something however slices flesh rather suddenly, and his attention is pulled back to where it should be. A curse grumbled into the inner working of the car and he’s yanking his hands out. Shuffling off to rinse out the cut and tape it up. Because that’s another thing no body asked for. Blood all over the merchandise.
3 -
Every single syllable out of her mouth grates on his ears, like nails on a chalk board. But he keeps his seat. Knocks back the rest of his whiskey and raps knuckles on the bar for another round. Gaze cast away from his glass, picking a spot that’s inconspicuous but still leaves what he covets in view. And maybe for minutes he lets himself pretend.
Tricks himself into thinking the polished wood under his finger tips is really silk. That the scent of whiskey isn’t coming from his own lips. The clink of his glass being set back before him is really liquor drowned nothings in his ear that he doesn’t even know what are. That he’s not quite so alone in his own space.
There you go, Boss.
But it’s all shattered by the bartender. He gaze torn away, back to where it should have been the entire time. And fingers wrap around the drink. Knock it back in it’s entirety before standing up. Dropping cash on the bar to cover what he’s had. He’s not leaving he just needs a little air. That isn’t permeated with everyonething he shouldn’t want. And feet shuffle him out the door. Ignoring the inquires as to his destination as he goes.
4 -
Usually he’s more of a spectator every year. Finding a good spot to watch the parade. Taking in the feel of it. Of for once not being the only one. Not being the odd man out. Of being surrounded by people he has something in common with. Surrounded by people born different from the fucking status quo just like he had been. Call it immature, call it selfish, call it weak–but it helps. Helps remind him that at least in some ways somewhere there’s people of his particular shade.
Riley enjoys it more than Bastian thought he would. Being the social butterfly the fucker is. Making event long buddies with the people around them. Something Bastian had never bothered to do. Because while being here made him feel part of something, control and habit had always kept him still inside his own little box. But Riley didn’t have that problem. And soon enough he finds himself in a crowded bar. Glitter and confetti in places he didn’t even know he had. Quietly convening with the group Riley’s attracted.
But for all the beauty around him, he’s blind to it. Though perhaps their new found company isn’t blind to him. And there’s a friendly little nudge, a knowing sort of nod; from the tiny woman on his right. And even Bastian knows what she’s implying. So much so that his ears turn red, that flickering embarrassed sort of smile coming and going from his face. Before he’s leaning in just close enough to respond at a volume only she can hear.
           “Friend zone.”
And honestly? He doesn’t really mind the subsequent pat she gives his hand; or the extra shot she buys him because apparently? She knows exactly how he feels.
5 -
Two a.m. and he’s jolting awake. Covered in sweat and lungs heaving. A groan because every nerve ending is just as on fire as it had been in the fantasy he’d been all been truly wound within. And feet kick away covers, find the floor as he sits up. Rough hands rubbing at his face, as he gets up. Shuffles to the bath room. Pisses out the rest of last night’s drunken stupor and moves out into the hallway. Down the back stairs and into the kitchen. Because his mouth tastes like the bottom of a whiskey barrel but as dry as a cotton mill.
The fridge door is hauled open, a bottle of water pulled from, cracked open and sucked down. And for moments he just stands there. Leaned against the kichen island. Letting the images play back in his mind. Echoed by logical thinking that he’s got to let this fixation go. That it’s never going to happen. That he should just get the hell out of dodge for a while. Let this cool off, grow cold, and come back when the bridge has rotted. Because it would be better for everyone else in the long run.
A sigh, that drags everything down; before he’s shuffling to the trash can to throw the bottle away. Though he stops mid step when a sound carries from the living room. Brows knitting and the bottle becoming something else entirely. Something that hit much harder than thin plastic. And he’s moving from tile to carpet. Bare feet silent as the dead. At least until…
God damn it, Duck.
The small bat is set on the coffee table, gently. The ice pack that had fallen to the floor (the apparent source of the noise) picked up and set aside as well. And he just stands there for a minute or two doesn’t he? Watching the asshole sleep. But soon enough he’s moving again. Pulling the blanket off his dad’s old chair, shaking it out, and easy does it–covers up his best friend. Shiner, bruised knuckles and all. He won’t ask in the morning, he never does. But that doesn’t stop his fingers from almost grazing the black and blue ring around Riley’s eye. Fingers that retract a hair before it would be too late. And feet will him to turn and climb the stairs again.
Back to his bed. Alone. Like what’s best for everyone.
6 -
Once upon a time…it had been his favorite time of year. Back before his life had gone shit everything wrong. And honestly it’s been years since he’s seen a Christmas tree. That wasn’t in a store window. That was decorated by hand and maybe not at all uniform and color coded. And even for as awkward as he feels surrounded by all the things, he’s avoided since his mom died—there’s a warmth too it he can’t deny he’s missed.
Music isn’t bad either. Classic stuff mixed in with modern. And maybe he catches himself more than once humming along. Always too quiet for anyone but him to hear; from where he spent most of the night. Tucked by the window. People watching. And more or less being okay with it. It’s his friend’s lot, not his. Not that Bastian really has a lot. At least not one that’s much bigger than three people.
But even Christmas parties wind down. As maybe a little too soon, the last of the other guests are shuffling out the door. With himself still in the same spot he’s been haunting all night. A quiet good night that’s answered just a little louder by him. Before they’re all that’s left in the starkingly empty space. And he’s moving to help pick up a little. Throw away stray plates and cups. And it’s somewhere between clearing the coffee table and snagging a fork from the mantle that his attention is drawn elsewhere.
How about a drink? Saved the good stuff for us.
Honestly he probably looks a little funny. Standing there stiff as a snowman. Trash bag in one hand, the other hovering in the air above the fork. But he hadn’t exactly been prepared for the image. The image that was Riley standing there in the kitchen door way. A bottle of 30 year whiskey in one hand, and two glasses in the other. And over top his head? Jesus Christ’s balls but the universe just wasn’t damn fair.
And there’s a war going on in his head. One screaming to say yes, the other to do something entirely different, and one more telling him to bolt for the damn door and not come back until he’d scrubbed the image from his memory. But there’s no scrubbing this away. It’s there now. Embedded with every other time, the universe had decided to place Riley in just the right place to taunt and tempt him into doing something foolish.
But where every other time logic had won…maybe he’s had one to many tonight, to compensate for the crowd. Or so that’s what he’ll blame it on later. Because before he can really tell what he’s doing; he’s moving. The bag abandoned and the fork forgotten about. And where his feet should have stopped him they don’t. Where hands should have gone for the glasses they wind fingers into Riley’s shirt. Drag him down and into a kiss that shouldn’t be happening, if propriety were a thing right then. But it’s not. And Bastian holds it for heart beats before the need for air becomes a reality and he lets go.
Gaze tracking upward above Riley’s head, as he clears his throat and steps back. Hands driving into his pockets and blue finding the depths of the rug beneath his feet. His ears as red as the garland hanging around the door frame. Questions, cursing…something will come eventually, because Riley doesn’t know how not to talk but what else was Bastian supposed to do?
Andy had parked himself right underneath the spot Bastian had noticed he’d avoided all night. And he can only hope that somewhere if this all goes sides ways, that the little bits of green hanging precariously from the door frame can some how find away to dig him out of the grave he’s probably dug for himself. Because if not?

Manwhore chapter 9
My phone buzzes. I stare at the caller ID, my body once again getting into the action. SIN. Flushing just at the thought of him, I tuck the phone aside and watch my toes get a nice pink coat of paint.
“After the toes, full-on bikini wax,” Victoria announces from her seat next to mine.
I wonder whether she could speak a little louder so that not only the entire spa but the outside world as well could hear.
I lean forward and drop my voice. “No thanks.”
“Um. Hello? Not a question.”
I laugh. “Girl, I’ve got it perfectly maintained. Leave it!”
“All right.” She slaps down the magazine she’d been reading and sets it aside. “But guys like Justin like Brazilians.” She smiles secretively. “And of course, all those gorgeous girls from Brazil too.” She chooses a new magazine and continues in her role of advisor, like she’s an expert on him. “Womanizers like all girls; it’s part of their charm. They’re perfect specimens, and we can’t help but be drawn to that.” She smiles. “You know that earthiness about you, that gentle fierceness—he can be drawn to that. I saw that he was drawn to that. Under that drive, you’re sweeter and more gentle, and he’s more like fire, more forceful, more ambitious. Justin plays around but he’s hard—as everybody who’s done business with him knows.”
My phone vibrates, and this time it’s a call. SIN.
Force and fire.
Hard.
I want to answer. I want to hear his voice.
I also want to not want these things.
I swear, if the knot in my stomach gets any tighter, I’m going to implode.
I’m staring at my phone when another text pops up.
What does a man need to do to get you to say yes?
Chewing on my inner cheek, I stare at my phone for what feels like forever. Yes! Yes! YES! But also NO. We cannot. NO. NO. NO.
Finally I focus on the job, tell myself it’s a yes with an emotional and physical no attached, and answer:
I’ll meet you there
My hand is shaking as I tuck my phone away again and try to come back to the present. Spa. Makeover. Victoria. Oh yes, Victoria. Very interesting development here. I scrutinize her in confusion, then say, “From what you just told me, I’m starting to think you actually want me to succeed.”
To be honest, I don’t bother to hide my surprise because, well, I’ve been surprised by Victoria in a great way today.
“I do want you to succeed—why wouldn’t I? I love working at Edge. Where am I supposed to go?” A look of puzzlement crosses her face. “We all know we’re on our last breath. Nobody’s taking over. Our print run gets tinier by the second. Every one of us will end up without a job.” She shakes her head. “I don’t want that.” She sighs. “I want to be looked upon favorably by our bosses, but to be honest, I’m not sure what I’d do with Justin if I ever had him.”
“Oh, that boy just can’t be had.” I laugh lightly, but inside, this makes me sad. That Justin is so apart from the crowd may make it harder for him to feel like he “belongs” anywhere. That he will never belong to anyone at all.
“What do you mean, ‘he can’t be had’?”
“He just can’t be had, not in any way that matters to him. Nobody’s gotten more than just a tiny piece of Justin. Not his dad, not even his mother. No woman. Not his friends or his businesses. He spreads himself around, even in his interests. Nothing really claims him. He keeps that to himself, all that fire. He just gives you a glimpse of the spark.”
“Well”—she fans her face with her hands—“you already have a better grasp of him than I do!”
A little before 8 p.m., I enter my apartment, remembering I’d promised Victoria I’d wear a dress. “Try not to reveal too much. People always take their tops off for Justin. He might like wondering what’s underneath instead.”
“He won’t get to see it, so he can wonder to death,” I flippantly said.
But I’m surprised my tongue didn’t catch fire, because I don’t feel flippant. I feel anticipation of the kind that makes you concentrate on nothing. Makes you try to do ten things at once and fail at them all.
I haven’t seen him since he Frenched me outside my apartment right before the elevator doors closed.
By the time Gina gets home, I’ve got clothes strewn all over my room. I had texted her: Sin is at the Tunnel tonight and we’re going!
Whereas I’d been deliberating what to wear since before I even opened the door, she instantly storms inside and takes charge.
“What are you still doing in bra and panties? Get dressed! Wear that top that’s cool and modern in blue and white that says MY BOYFRIEND IS A SAILOR, just because you want to appear taken and like you didn’t try too hard.”
“Not try too hard? I spent four hours at a spa. I paid for my silly makeover.”
“Wear that top anyway that says your boyfriend is a sailor. If he wants in your pants, he’s going to loathe that.”
I pull the top out of my closet and eye it, my nerves skyrocketing as the seconds tick by. I decide maybe I will wear a skirt and the boyfriend top. Not as seductive as a dress but still, he can get an eyeful of long legs now that they’re slick and oiled up nicely. And why are you wanting to show him your long legs, Selena?
“Is this a good idea, G?” I leap into my skirt.
“It’s a fucking great idea, it’s exactly what you wanted!”
“Um, no, it isn’t. I wanted research, but this is almost like a date.”
“No, it’s not. Justin doesn’t date. He just hooks up.”
God, I’m wishing he’ll drool for me.
I’m wishing that at least one night, one night in his existence, he will have a wet dream about me.
But I’m still so uncertain. I turn and ask Gina, “Is this all right? I’m treading such a fine line. . . .”
“Selena, just remember he’s using you, you’re using him; you’re not in a relationship, nor will you ever be. Just do the job and don’t get involved.”
“Okay,” I quickly agree, just to get her to stop saying the word using.
I gulp back a ball of nerves the size of a lemon and as bitter as the peel, then grab my bag and tell myself that I can do this, that I want to do this, that I want to do this more than I want to do him.
16
TUNNEL
“Okay, we’re mingling. Help me find Emmett.”
Wynn, Gina, and I roam the mazelike rooms inside the Tunnel with the smells of clay walls and sweat filling our nostrils along with perfume, cologne, and alcohol. Flashing lights and music hit us as we head toward the heart of the Tunnel, the “pit.” Wynn leads the pack while I trail behind, head turning as I look for him.
“Bet he’s there.” Gina points at a room to the right, which is filled to capacity, so I can’t even see past the wall of glittery dresses and skin at its fringes.
“Why there?”
“Hello? Where there’s smoke there’s fire? Where there’s Justin, there are GIRLS.”
Frowning at that, I wedge myself through to the busiest corner, and my heart stutters because there he is, the Guy Who Owns My Hormones. While Callan and Tahoe look good, Justin could be wearing a sign that says BRING EXTRA PANTIES.
Two women sit on each of his friends’ laps, and a pretty blonde socialite is talking to Justin, looking at him in complete rapture.
Music pulses through the speakers. Bodies bump and jostle as I steal this moment to watch him while he’s not watching me. Tan, his hair standing up a little bit, his shirt rolled to the elbows like it always is at the clubs, where it gets hot and crazy. God, butterflies.
He’s laughing as he turns, rather casually scanning the room, and then his shoulders tense. My heart stops, flips, because he’s noticed me. Then I’m subjected to the seriously uncomfortable pressure of his scrutiny.
He cocks a brow, and once again he gets that curl to his lip. You going to stay there all night? I can almost hear him say.
Justin sets his drink down on the side table and comes over. Every step makes my heart beat faster and faster. He looks at me, starting at my feet and working his way upward—his eyes miss no detail.
“Selena.” He draws me into his strong arms and presses a kiss to my cheek, the brush of his lips so incredibly light I can’t believe such a minuscule gesture can do so many things to my body. I’m having a war inside myself as I try to steady my breathing as he takes my hand and tugs me to their table in the back. I was born a girl; I’ve got proof of that on my birth certificate. But I’ve never felt so much like a girl until this moment, when my hand feels tiny and fragile in his strong grip.
Callan and Tahoe greet me through the music. “Hey Rache!” “Hey Rache!”
I slide into the booth and Justin settles down beside me, his shirt stretching in so many places I can’t help feeling constrained in my own skin just by the sight.
He orders a drink for me, then sits back, looking as relaxed as I am tense. Something happened when he visited my apartment. The fact that it mattered to him if I was feeling well or not touched a chord, but also, he opened up to me in a way that surprised me, and, even more surprisingly, I opened up to him. We both shared things—real things. Now, the intimacy between us is so palpable right now that every inch of me aches to get closer, as close as we felt that night.
His arm outstretched behind me, his friends continue to banter and do wicked things to their whores with their drinks. “How was your week, Selena?” At Justin’s question, a warm glow of excitement flows through my veins, because there’s real interest in his gaze.
“Good. My work is good. My mother’s good. I . . . well, I don’t want to bore you.” But I smile. I can’t remember when anyone’s looked so attentive listening to me describe what my week was like.
Then I ask him about his trip to London—because of course I read that he was there for forty-eight hours—and he says it was “good,” then shifts the subject back to me.
“What are you writing about now?” he whispers.
He’s always so focused on everything I say; people pass and slap his back or call his name, and never once does he lift his head to acknowledge anyone apart from me. Just as engrossed in him and having trouble steering away from dangerous topics, I hedge and say, “Researching for next week’s column.”
I notice one of his outstretched arms is farther down on the back of my seat, and think, My topic is you.
A painful yearning hits me dead center. Whoa. Where did that come from?
I glance down at my lap as I try to regroup. Why, oh why do these feelings of instability have to happen to me with you?
Is it because I want to draw you out when you get so serious and you’re not teasing me?
Or is it that you really want to know, for some inexplicable reason, the things that move me?
Or maybe it’s because you make me so nervous . . . or maybe, simply, because you asked?
I drag in a breath, aware of being watched through those thick lashes by those boundless, deep-set eyes, green like the forest, hiding all the secrets of somebody who’s never really reveals his cards until the game is won. Cunning eyes. Male eyes. Interested eyes. I want to shut myself up and not keep putting myself out there with him while he’s still giving me back hardly anything at all, but I can’t help wanting to answer him when he asks me questions. I glance at the dance floor and slowly rise to my feet, tugging his hand.
“Dance with me,” I tell him.
I’m sick and tired of wondering, stressing, wanting and fighting it. I’m tired of thinking, of trying not to feel. Suddenly all I want is to dance with him. An hour of fun, an hour of being just a girl with a guy.
He cocks a brow, says nothing . . . but he stands. He stands slowly, like a serpent uncoiling. I laugh and tug on his hand a little more to lead him to the connecting room, where the dance floor is. “Dance with me, Justin.”
His hand is large and long-fingered in mine as I tug him forward, and he lets me lead him, like a lazy wild animal indulging his prey before pouncing, and he steps onto the dance floor with me, his hands lifting to my hips. A fire churns inside me when I glance up to see the wicked tilt at the corners of his lips.
He watches me as I move sinuously under his hands, up and down and sideways, using him as a pole. A pole I want to kiss, just like any other girl, because it turns out I’m pretty human after all. He starts letting his hands roam up and down my sides, his eyes glinting like a devil’s. I take his hands and put them on my nape so he holds me close. My stupid head can’t think—my thoughts are all blanked. I want him naked, sweaty, out of his element, not smirking, not amused, definitely not in control.
“Is that the best you can do?” I taunt, surprised when he yanks me closer.
Then, with my hips in his hands, he moves me. Wow. He’s hard. All. Over. People jumping around us, bumping against us, Justin dances like his body is an extension of mine. He draws me against him with very little effort on his part, and the stubble of his jaw scrapes against my nape as he pulls my hair to the side and runs the silver rings on his hand up the column of my neck. I’m so shocked by the soft sensuality in his movements and touch, the stealth and ripple of his muscles against mine, how safe and excited I feel in his arms, I’m high on this feeling. On him. On this night. I’m stealing touches that might definitely be too close to the fire, but my hands have a mind of their own. Part of me is crazed. His lips were made to kiss, his hands to touch; that’s the sole purpose of his thick hair: for women to cling to while he pounds them hard. His eyes seem to offer peeks into heaven and into some kind of party in hell, and I’m maddened by it all.
I run my fingers up his shirt, around his square shoulders, savoring the rock-hard feel of his muscles. I couldn’t stop the way I want to touch him even if I tied myself up!
The song ends, and he takes my hand and leads the way back to the table. Beads of perspiration run down between my breasts. Dozens of stares come at us; nearly every woman in the room is surveying me, head to toe, most with expressions that tell me they want to claw my skin off.
I almost wince.
At the booth, Callan is relating Justin anecdotes to the socialite whores.
“Oh yeah, but Justin crushed those rumors.”
“Crushed!” Tahoe proudly echoes, fist to palm.
Ignoring them, Justin pulls me into the booth with him and resumes his position with his arm on the backrest of my seat, his head lowered in my direction so I can feel his warm breath at the back of my ear. “Hey . . . look at me,” he coaxes as he slides his hand to my thigh and my thoughts scatter.
The touch sparks all my nerve receptors, all my yearning. I don’t know if it’s been building for minutes, hours, days, weeks, or my whole life, but I know I’m never aware of it unless he’s near. Ruled by impulse now, I turn around and lean a little against him. He shifts so that his arm is now loose around my shoulders, and shiver as his fingers wander under the fall of my hair. His friends are talking. Justin whispers in my ear, “You look very pretty.”
Suddenly my cheeks are burning and my stomach turns into a live thing.
The music stops and “Kiss You Slow” by Andy Grammer starts. He cups my face, his eyelids at half-mast. He kisses the corner of my lips.
The air feels like a lick of fire on my skin.
He gathers me tighter and flatter against his side, then drags all four of his silver-ringed fingers down the side of my face, his eyes following their path. “I’m with the hottest girl in the Tunnel tonight,” he murmurs as he rubs my lipstick off my mouth with the sexiest brush of his thumb I could imagine.
And there, in his beautiful eyes, is a wild desire mirroring the one inside me. Desire unlike anything I’ve ever known clogs my throat, drives me to gently nip his thumb. I shouldn’t be doing this, but I can’t stop. The song is talking about kissing slow . . .
My perspective zooms out for a little bit, and I become aware of his friends making out in their corner with their whores just like Justin is making out with me. Of my friends mingling out there, somewhere. Of people dancing, others glancing in our direction. And of my life, changing, right this moment, somehow, as he stares at my face, the colors in his eyes shifting like a kaleidoscope as he seems to battle with the same confusing emotions that I am.
He takes my hips and slowly guides me to his lap. I go all too willingly, loosening my body so he can sit me sideways while I clutch onto his neck for dear life.
“Do you want this?” he whispers as he reaches beneath my skirt and I feel the warmth of his hand caressing the inside of my thigh.
Heart violently fluttering in my chest, my fingertips slide up his neck as I try to press closer. His neck is hard and thick and I duck my head to smell him. Then I whisper recklessly in his ear, “I’m with the most handsome guy.”
“You fucking sly dog. You’re probably going to do some jousting later on with Rache, too!” Tahoe calls from his seat, lifting his wineglass at us while his floozy tries to readjust her dress.
Justin’s hand pulls out from my skirt, but he squeezes my thigh as he looks into my eyes regretfully. “Busy, T,” he growls. He levels Tahoe a look that could just about flay the skin off his bones.
I blow out a breath, remembering the images and the rumors already going around about me, only making my job so much more risky.
“Not here,” I tell him when I recover at least a little bit of my brain.
Making out in a club? Really, Selena? With Justin?
Justin seizes my hips and helps me down off his lap.
“Hey, he really likes you,” Tahoe calls to me, wagging his eyebrows as Justin summons a waiter and asks for something that makes him rush away, only to come back and nod.
“Mr. Justin, follow me,” the waiter says.
Justin grabs his jacket from the bench and then takes me by the elbow, murmuring in my ear, “Come with me, Selena.”
We’re led into a private room. There’s a table at the end with little electric candles. A wine bucket, two wineglasses, a vase with a single pink tulip, dimmed lights. The same song playing outside but far more intimate.
“Anything you need, Mr. Justin?” the waiter says, and when Justin pushes what looks like several bills into his hand, the waiter almost falls apart.
“Thank you,” Justin says. He guides me by the hand to the couch, and the waiter shuts the door with a soft, heart-dropping little click.
My legs can barely hold me but thank god, Justin sits me down. He shifts his toned, beautiful body so he can look at me. God. His eyes. I can’t even hold them with mine for more than a few seconds; my heart is pounding in my chest, my skull, between my aching legs.
“Justin . . .” I start.
He seems to have a one-track mind right now as we settle back on the couch, and he ducks his head and presses his lips to my neck. I moan and slip my fingers into his hair, feeling how thick and soft it is while a burning, boiling need circles around in my veins.
I shudder when his lips press to my pulse point. Then he’s tasting me with his tongue, slowly exploring the tender skin of my neck, and my toes are curling and my body’s trembling as he cups my breast in one hand and gently squeezes while he strokes his free fingers up my bare arm, up and down. “Are you okay with this?”
He leans back, lips curled as he looks at me, and when I nod, completely and totally breathless, he holds me by the back of the head and presses a slow kiss to the corner of my mouth. He’s gentle. Too gentle. Within a minute I’m too drunk, lust drunk, Justin drunk, to do anything but exist. Kisses. Touches. Kisses he sets on my ear. The corners of my mouth.
He slides his hand under my skirt again. “What are you wearing under there?” he husks out.
“Something.” My voice shakes with desire.
“Something you want to show me?” His lips curl again.
I’m helpless under his probing stare as he tugs my skirt up to reveal my panties. I don’t want to breathe, I don’t even want to live after this moment when he’s looking at me the way he is.
“Justin,” I plead, feeling all wanton and nervous.
“Shh,” he says softly as he takes a good look at my tiny, see-through lace panties, “I won’t hurt you. All I want is to look at you.”
“Only look?” I don’t know if I want him to say yes, no, I don’t know . . . what.
“And touch,” he coaxes. He draws my leg up to his hip and pulls me closer so that I half straddle him as his fingers skim the back of my knee. Suddenly a thousand nerve receptors awaken, so sensitive to the lightest pressure of his fingertips, I moan against his throat. When he pulls my hair up and ducks his head and uses his tongue on the side of my neck, I moan deeper . . .
Usually I’d expect him to head straight for my hottest, wettest spot, but this is one knowledgeable guy and he doesn’t do anything I expect him to. His lips press to my temple as he teases with his fingers up the back of my leg and then he grazes my inner thighs with his thumbs. My breath hitches, my nipples poking into my silk top and into his chest.
I arch my neck, pulling in deeper, faster breaths that smell of his cologne and intoxicate me. I think I just moaned his name. Using one hand, he slides a few fingers along the crotch of my panties.
“Tell me you want my fingers here,” he whispers. Against my temple, he’s smiling in obvious male delight because I’m absolutely wet already. I close my eyes and wrap my arms around his neck, and I imagine us naked, moving together.
He keeps one hand caressing my inner thigh and the back of my leg while he slides his other hand under my top. A restrained squeeze on my thigh and I can tell he’s getting serious. I can already feel an earth-shattering orgasm building, and I’m starting to get more than my little share of fear.
“Sain . . . um, Justin . . . don’t stop touching me, I just . . . need to slow down. . . .”
He eases back, and we separate for a moment, our breathing audible. My pupils can’t focus, he’s a blur. A blur I’m supposed to write about, not to have.
“Give me your hand,” he whispers. Lightly he reaches out and holds my hand in his strong grip, and I can feel his eyes, liquid and green, watching my reaction as he dips his finger to my palm. Suddenly I’m reminded of each of the forty thousand nerve endings in this very palm. He strokes between the base of my fingers and knuckles, the caress stimulating like electricity.
I watch, transfixed, as he interlocks our fingers and uses his thumb to massage my palm up to the base of my fingers in slow little circles. My blood vessels feel too close to my skin. A fire builds in my body as he holds my hand and slowly straightens out my arm. Gently, he kisses along the inside of my elbow, fluttering his tongue across my skin and bathing the warm spot with his breath. What he’s doing feels like a drug, a drug I never want to him to stop shooting into me.
Slowly, he tugs my top upward and tucks it into my bra strap so it stays up.
I’ve read the solar plexus is a powerful nerve cluster, but I’ve never experienced it before. He starts below my breasts, caressing upward, spreading me out on the couch so that he’s kissing me softly around my belly button. When I moan, he soothes and whispers, relaxing my body, my abs uncontracting so that all the blood heads to the part between my legs that’s on absolute fire. It burns and tingles at the prospect of being touched. He’s so close and at the same time so far away. He caresses up my ribs and down. Ducking his head, he uses his tongue around my navel, then dips it, hot and wet, into the tiny nook. A dozen erogenous zones awaken to him. Nerve endings never before stimulated like this tingle and scream, my hot zones alive. All of me. Alive. I’m excited mentally, physically, emotionally.
“You have no idea how much you excite me,” I hear myself admit as I caress his hair and he lifts his head, tugs my bra down off one swollen globe, curls his fingers around my breast, and gently suctions the tip of my nipple with a hungry sucking sound.
“I want you beneath me tonight, Selena.” His lashes sweep upward and he looks up at me, the gold rim around the green of his eyes gleaming with intent. Every breath, every undulating move of my body under his as he suckles me, everything undoes me from the very core outward. “Writhing,” he says. “Panting. Wet.”
He takes the hardened, already sensitized nipple back into his mouth. I slide down the seat, part my legs, and try to pull him above me. Instead he lets his hand slip in between my legs. My arms wind around his shoulders tight enough that I can feel the muscles flexed and taut under my fingertips as he slowly tugs my panties aside with his thumb and slides one finger inside me.
The touch triggers a cascade of pleasure through my body. I arch, a tiny sound of need and ecstasy slipping through my lips. I can see the mask of control he always wears slipping as he watches me, his lips curling with a soft smile. “For me . . . Selena. Let go for me.”
One rub of his thumb on my clit. One deft finger inside me. Those male eyes, glittering, watching. That voice, coaxing me. And I come, twisting with a soft cry, unable to stop it, unable to tell him that I wanted him to let go for me, too.
I gasp and pant for a while longer. He shifts his big body and watches me with that soft smile as he tugs my skirt back down and lets my top drop to cover me, using a hand to smooth it back in place as he whispers in my ear, “I’ve wanted to do that since the day you crashed my Ice Box party.”
He’s teasing me. I’ve gotten to know that tone now. So I tease him back. “I was dared by friends. Guess now I can say I met you and you were the heartless bastard everyone says you are.”
“Who’s everyone?”
“Your ex-girlfriends.”
“I don’t have girlfriends.”
“Ex-lovers, whatever.”
“I have something to say about that, too.”
“Oh really, what is it?”
“I’m innocent?” He smiles.
I laugh. I want to kiss him, kiss him real hard, and fuck him harder. Oh god, I want to give him what he just gave me, but then what? “Are you having fun with me?”
“That was me actually attempting to let the lady have fun with me.”
I put my hand on his thigh playfully. “You make my world spin a little faster.”
“I’d like to rock it even more,” he rumbles, and I laugh.
He looks at me, his grin, his eyes, all of him mischief to the tenth power. Mischief and sin.
“What’s your idea of rocking a girl’s world?”
“You tell me.” He trails his eyes down my body.
“Me?!” I cry. “What do I have to do with it?”
“I’ve never wanted to rock a woman’s world the way I want to rock yours.”
It seems my lungs just froze on an in breath.

Hiched chapter 5
Then the meaning behind her gift slams into me. The conversation we shared about our moms comes rushing back. I don’t think anyone’s ever given me such a thoughtful gift before.
Selena reaches into the shopping bag, pulls out two small cups, and sets them on the counter. “We can have tea together sometime . . . if you like.”
There’s a touch of uncertainty in her voice. Did she think I might not like that idea?
Well, I don’t. I fucking love it.
“That was very thoughtful of you, Snowflake.”
I thought my friend Sterling was the only one who got my obsession with tea, being that he’s British, but apparently Selena is on board too.
I set the teapot down on the counter and pull her in close for a hug. I expect Selena to go rigid in my arms, or even recoil with a comment about inappropriate physical contact. But instead she’s soft and warm, and her body molds to mine. Her hands rest on my shoulders and she watches me with wide eyes.
“Thank you,” I say, skimming my thumb across her jaw.
“No problem.”
“You know I’m going to kiss you at some point, right?”
We’re so close, I can hear her swallow. The very tip of her tongue pokes out—a quick, nervous lick that she doesn’t even seem aware of.
Damn, so cute . . . that’s a yes if I ever saw one. But I want more than just unconscious signals. I wait to see how Selena decides to respond.
Finally, she gives me a small nod. “Maybe,” she says, trying to sound flippant.
I chuckle and release my hold on her. “Come on. You’ve got to check this place out. It’s incredible.”
“My dad went overboard, as usual.” She turns from me and gazes out at the balcony.
“Glass of wine first?”
“Why not?”
With a glass of red wine in hand, we make our way through the apartment. Selena points out architectural details and discusses the shower schedule for the one bathroom we’ll share, while I just nod along and watch her.
Being here with her, listening to her ideas for decorating, sharing this space with her . . . it feels like a start. Maybe even the start of something real.
“This isn’t so bad, is it?” I tease.
She gives me a look. “Just because I nearly had a panic attack at the thought of living together doesn’t mean you get to gloat.”
“Fine. I won’t. But it’s a nice place. Your dad did well.”
She nods. Then she glances away for a second. “There’s something I wanted to tell you.”
We start down the hall, and I motion for her to continue in front of me.
“I’ve taken your proposition under advisement, and here’s what I propose.” Selena’s tone is confident, her shoulders squared.
“My proposition?” I ask. She’s being so clinical, I can’t wait to hear her explain this.
She stops to look at me. “You know, that make-out idea you suggested at the bar last week. I’d be willing to try it sometime.”
Hell yes. I’m finally making some real headway here.
“Sure. We could do that.” Starting as soon as humanly possible.
“As long as there were parameters,” she continues.
Parameters. Rules. Guidelines. Why am I not surprised? This woman is unlike any I’ve ever met before. She certainly keeps me guessing.
“Such as?”
“First base only, as I believe you said. And fully clothed.” She narrows her eyes at my crotch. “Which means you keep that giant thing in your pants.”
“You think I’m giant?” I can’t help the smirk that uncurls on my mouth.
“Oh, for heaven’s sake, stop fishing for compliments. You know it’s impressive, otherwise you wouldn’t have shoved it down my throat.” As soon as the words leave her mouth, her face flushes bright pink, her Freudian slip sinking in.
“Oh, Snowflake.” I pet her hot cheek with my thumb. “I haven’t shoved it down your throat yet, but I’m very much looking forward to that.”
“L-let’s just forget I said that. No one will be shoving anything anywhere. First base. Got it?”
I chuckle. “I’m happy to go as slow as you need to.”
And it’s the truth. Slow may not be my usual style, but there’s a certain satisfaction in knowing that I’m winning over her trust and readying her for more. The idea is quite gratifying. It will make my victory all the sweeter.
“This is going to work, me and you,” I tell her as we near the bedroom.
Yes, one fucking bedroom. And before you get excited, I summon up my willpower to tell her I’ll sleep on the motherfucking couch.
“You can have the bed,” I say, stopping in the hallway.
It’s the gentlemanly thing to do, no question. And since I did just tell her I was looking forward to putting my cock down her throat, I figure I have some making-up to do in the manners department.
“Are you sure?” Her voice is filled with surprise.
I swallow. “Of course. I’ll take the couch.”
Our gazes drift together from the modern, stylish tweed sofa in the living room to the massive king-sized bed down the hall dressed in fluffy down, and back to the couch again. There’s no way my six-foot-two-inch frame will even fit on that couch.
“You know what?” Selena says brightly. “We’re two grown adults. It’s a huge bed. We can manage sharing it, right?”
“I’ll be a pussycat.” I grin at her.
“That’s what I’m afraid of,” she murmurs.
Chapter Ten
Selena
I let Justin take the bathroom to brush his teeth first. We haven’t yet reached the level of familiarity required for me to watch another human being spit into the sink. Meanwhile, I take the bedroom to change into my favorite fleecy pajamas.
When I emerge, Justin is leaning against the wall outside the bathroom door. He cocks his head with an amused smile that stops me in my tracks.
“What?” I ask after a minute.
His eyes crinkle at the edges. “Nothing. You just look cute.”
Cute? My cheeks turn pink as the word fizzes down through my stomach. I suddenly feel self-conscious about having little lavender butterflies printed all over me. Somehow I hadn’t expected Justin to have an opinion on my pajamas. Or, if he did, that he would tease me about them. Not say sweet things that make me temporarily forget how to talk.
“Where are your pajamas?” I ask, shrugging off the bubbly feeling.
His smile quirks with mischief. “Well, usually I sleep in the nude—”
Of course you do. Why am I not surprised?
“Not anymore you don’t,” I say quickly, interrupting him. “Find some sweatpants or something.” As we trade places, passing in the hallway, I add over my shoulder, “And that better include a shirt!”
The sight of Justin’s sculpted six-pack while I’m still getting comfortable with the idea of sharing an apartment with him—let alone a bed? No way I’d survive that.
When I’m almost done brushing my teeth, he calls out from the bedroom. “Hey, Snowflake? Since we’re spending the night together, would you be interested in taking our first test drive?”
My heart jumps into my throat. It slows down a little—but only a little—when I realize he’s talking about our make-out idea. Jeez . . . give the guy an inch and he starts asking for a mile.
Surprisingly, though, I don’t feel a speck of reluctance about kissing Justin. Only curiosity, a flush of warmth, a flutter of nervous excitement. But then again, our agreement is strictly limited to necking like a couple of shy high-schoolers, which we’ve technically already done seven years ago. And there’s no reason to reevaluate my stance against casual sex—what I have planned is a long way from home base. The thought is both a huge relief and a tiny bit disappointing.
“Sure,” I answer him finally, trying to sound nonchalant. I was the one who proposed we try it, after all. Although I assumed it would be a little further in the future. But tonight is as good a time as any.
At last, the moment of truth arrives. Swallowing hard, I pull back the covers, sit down, and slide underneath. The linens rustle as Justin does the same on the bed’s other side.
I can hear him move and breathe. I’m attuned to every tiny sound, hyperaware of how close he is to me.
It’s been so long since I slept in the same room with another person, let alone the same bed. And this is nothing like bunking with my sister or Camryn. My new bedmate is a man. A very handsome man who has made it extremely clear that he wants to fuck my brains out with his huge dick. We’re only sleeping together, not sleeping together, but still . . . I’m sharing a bed with Justin Fucking Tate. And I’m about thirty seconds away from kissing him.
An odd fluttery energy washes over me—nervousness and excitement mix until I can’t tell them apart. I feel a sudden shy urge to withdraw to my side of the bed and stare at the wall until he falls asleep, then I chide myself for being ridiculous. We’re not innocent children, but we’re also not teenagers, blushing and giggling at the barest mention of sex. We’re two mature, liberated adults who have very sensibly decided to . . .
Another giddy wave, this one distinctly warmer. I force myself to stop being a nervous wreck and roll over.
Justin has propped himself up on his elbow. His slight smile drops as he searches my face. “Hey, are you okay?”
Are my jitters that obvious?
“Uh, y-yeah, I’m fine,” I reply. Maybe that’s not totally true, but it’s not a lie, either. I really do want to try this. Which means I need to take the plunge now. “Let’s go.”
Justin nods and scoots closer. He reaches out to stroke my hair out of my face, and I relax a fraction into his light, almost tickling touch.
“Still with me?” he asks.
I nod.
“Because we don’t have to do anything you don’t want to.”
“I know that.”
His touches are more gentle than I expected. His fingertips are so light on my cheek, my neck, tucking my hair behind my ear. It’s . . . nice.
Then, at last, he shifts his weight and leans in.
That first brush is so soft, I can barely feel it. It’s more like the pause before a kiss than the kiss itself. But it still kicks my heart rate into overdrive.
“Was that all right?” he murmurs, his warm and minty breath fanning over my mouth.
I tilt up my chin and answer his question with a chaste peck.
He brushes against my lips with a chuckle. Sliding one arm under my head as a pillow, he lies down facing me, draping his other arm around my shoulder and upper back. He keeps his hands high and his lower body at least an inch from mine. A gentleman . . . for now, anyway.
His mouth starts moving gently. No tongue, no teeth, not even very much pressure—just feeling the give and take of our lips against each other. My nervousness slowly drains away to be replaced with a different, much more pleasant kind of buzzing energy.
It’s obvious what he’s doing. He’s trying to take things slow and make sure I’m comfortable. I’m relieved at his careful consideration . . . but I’m also slightly embarrassed that it was necessary in the first place. Time to up the ante a little.
I reach my arm around his waist, feeling how firm his muscles are, and open my mouth to him. With a low, quiet noise of approval, he immediately responds to my invitation. The tip of his tongue flicks over my lips. I return the move, determined to match his boldness, then let out a small gasp when he slides his tongue over mine. It’s almost like I can feel that deft touch much lower. My panties are growing damp, and these stupid fleece pajamas are suddenly suffocating. His lips are so full, so soft, and his mouth moves expertly over mine.
Unbidden, my body pulls itself closer . . . His skillful kisses are way better than I even remember.
And then I feel it. His half-hard length rubs against my thigh.
The thought of Justin—who starred in my every lurid teenage fantasy without my permission—hard and ready for me, now, here, in the very appealing flesh, is almost too much. A rush of heat pulses low in my belly, and I’m right on the verge of rocking my hips into him when reality strikes.
What the hell am I doing?
This is Justin Tate, who’s slept with half of Manhattan, who’s probably just doing this to win our bet and add another notch to his bedpost.
I freeze at the thought, and he pulls away.
“What’s wrong?” he asks in confusion.
“I think it’s time to stop for now,” I manage to say without stumbling over my words.
His brow furrows in distinct annoyance. “Really?”
“Yes, really. Good night.” I untangle myself from his embrace and roll over. “But thank you. That was fun.”
“Just fun?” His tone is incredulous. “Sheesh. Leave a twenty on my nightstand while you’re at it.”
“Are you telling me you’re familiar with that kind of situation?”
“Oh, screw you.”
He rolls over and I hear him get up and walk out into the hall.
I force my eyes closed and practice deep breathing to cool down. Seriously, how have I never noticed how stifling these pajamas are?
But about fifteen minutes later, I start wondering where he went. Did he change his mind and go to sleep on the couch? I hope not . . . I’d feel guilty, even if it was his own choice. Maybe I should find him.
Sighing, I get up to check the living room. It’s empty. But the bathroom door is shut, with light leaking from under it. I feel a little stupid for not guessing that in the first place. At the same time, though, it’s been kind of a while. Did he fall in or something?
I walk over, raising my hand to knock on the door . . . then stop, my cheeks coloring when I hear it. An unmistakable moan of pleasure.
My eyes fly open wide. I can’t believe what an idiot I am. What the hell did I think a man would do after I gave him a boner?
I should leave. Right now. I should go back to bed and pretend I didn’t hear anything. So . . . why am I not moving?
A low, husky growl comes from inside the bathroom, and my breath hitches. Without meaning to, I lean closer to the door.
If I listen hard, I can hear his heavy breathing. He’s loud . . . I wonder if he’s getting close yet? He must be, if he’s been doing this for almost fifteen minutes. Unless he has great stamina.
Another groan, this one louder and shakier. It’s all too easy to imagine the scene on the other side of the bathroom door. I can’t stop the mental images . . .
Justin with his sweatpants pushed down to his upper thighs and his shirt rucked up to reveal his taut abs and a dark trail of hair. His chest heaving, his legs trembling. His eyes dark and half-lidded or shut in concentration. Flushed and sweaty, his head thrown back, biting his full lips to keep quiet or parting them to gasp for breath. And his huge, hard cock—even more impressive than when I saw it in the bar a few days ago. It must be so long and thick right now, curving up proudly, swollen and veiny, the purple head wet, straining in his tight fist as he jerks himself fast and rough.
My panties flood with moisture.
He’s panting harsh and loud now, each breath edged with a moan that almost sounds like half-formed words. What’s he saying? What’s he thinking about? I shift, rubbing my thighs together slightly.
“Selena . . .” he groans.
My jaw drops. My pussy clenches hard on emptiness, sopping wet now. Justin calling my name like that—so ragged, so desperate—is the hottest thing I’ve ever heard in my life.
His noises of pleasure build to a crescendo, then taper off. Finally, he falls silent. My mouth is bone dry and I can feel my heart pounding in my throat.
Then I realize that he’ll probably be coming out of the bathroom soon. And if he catches me listening at the door like some kind of Peeping Tom, he’ll never let me hear the end of it.
I hustle back down the short hallway, jump into bed, and yank the covers over me just as the bathroom door opens. I slam my eyes closed. Justin’s footsteps pad closer, quick and quiet. The mattress dips with a tiny creak as he gets into bed.
Lying limp, I try to keep my breathing as slow and steady as possible. Which isn’t easy when I’m flooded with both lust and adrenaline. But if Justin realizes I’m feigning sleep, he doesn’t act like it.
I lie there feeling like a complete idiot—my heart still hammering away, my body primed and ready—while Justin, satisfied, drifts off into a peaceful sleep.

The next morning, my alarm wakes me up to an empty bed. Strange . . . I wouldn’t have pegged Justin for an early bird.
Far down the hall, I can distantly hear metal clanking, and a few sniffs confirm the smell of brewing coffee. Justin must be cooking. He doesn’t even drink coffee; he’s made it just for me. My stomach approves of that idea. It’s reassuring too—hopefully I can take it as a sign that he’s not too upset about me cutting things short last night.
I roll out of bed to quickly brush my teeth, shower, and get dressed, not wanting to miss a hot breakfast.
When I walk into the kitchen, Justin is indeed standing at the stove as I thought. But I didn’t predict that he’d be shirtless and still damp from the shower, his dark hair tousled, his toned muscles rippling subtly under tanned skin. I can’t help but gawk a little. Show-off . . . the jerk knows exactly how good he looks.
He glances back with a smile, interrupting my horny reverie. “Sleep well?”
“Yeah, like a log,” I reply as casually as possible. Right after I lay awake for a solid hour, wetter than the goddamn Hudson River.
Maybe I could have taken Justin’s example and found my own relief, but at the time, I was too paranoid that he’d wake up and catch me. And then I’d have to put up with his swaggering for who knows how long. Eternity, most likely.
The kettle whistles, saving me from needing to say anything else other than, “I’ll get that.”
“Thanks.” Justin speaks over his shoulder as he concentrates on the panful of hissing eggs, and my stomach growls; our food looks nearly done. “I already put the leaves in the pot.”
I pour the hot water into our new teapot, fix a cup of coffee for myself, and bring everything to the table. Justin serves up two plates, each holding half of a perfect spinach-mushroom omelet.
We eat by the dining area’s bay windows, enjoying the early morning’s airy sunlight and the view of Manhattan sprawled out beneath us. Our conversation is surprisingly pleasant—talking shop, tossing ideas for our new business plan back and forth. I start to relax. Maybe being roommates will work fine after all. We’ve only stayed one night, but this place is already starting to feel like home.
I finish my last bite of eggs with a contented sigh. A fresh, hot breakfast is definitely a nice way to start my morning. My usual routine consists of grabbing a bagel or muffin while running out the door. If Justin’s trying to suck up to me, it’s working.
A girl could get used to this . . .
Unfortunately, we’ve dawdled long enough. We need to get to the office soon. I stow my plate and mug in the dishwasher and start heading to the bathroom to put on my makeup.
But as I turn, Justin catches me by the shoulders and spins me around again. His strong arms wrap tight around me. Before I can think, he crushes our lips together.
I gasp. It’s nothing like last night’s kiss. That was soft and sweet, the lightest possible touch, like trying not to spook a skittish animal. This is a different kind of taming—hard, rough, fiery. The kid gloves have come off. Justin has caught me, claimed me, and arousal flares through my body like the heat of a brand.
Caught off guard, I can’t hold back a moan. I’m shocked to find my muscles turning to jelly. I cling to him just to stay on my feet.
Everything about Justin pours into my senses. I soak up his body heat, the rasp of stubble around my lips, the masculine scents of piney soap and spicy aftershave.
He devours my mouth and leaves me dizzy, panting for air. His teeth nip and scrape at my lips. His tongue licks deep, skating over mine, a tantalizing preview of how that hot, agile muscle might move over my clit. A vivid promise of the pleasure I could have . . . if I’d only let him give it to me.
I remember how he moaned my name in the bathroom last night. The memory of those dark, needy noises send another flood of heat through me. Maybe I’m not just another conquest to him; maybe he’s just as powerless in his own way.
Suddenly, I can’t figure out why I ever hesitated. I had a hot, willing man practically begging to blow my mind. What was the point of denying myself a good time? I arch up, pressing our hips together, and feel a twin flash of hunger and triumph at the long, thick hardness that pokes into my belly.
Then Justin steps back. All the touch I’m craving—the warm, muscled body and the hot, wet mouth—suddenly just disappears. It takes me a moment to register what happened.
Still dazed with lust, I blink up at him. “What . . . ?”
“It’s time to leave. We’re going to be late for work.”
“Work?” The word comes out as a disappointed whine.
He grins like he just won the Super Bowl. “You’re the one who set our limits at first base. Although, if you want more, I think the office could survive another hour without us. But you’ll have to ask nicely.”
As the fog of horniness clears away from my mind, I realize what’s going on here. Oh, you son of a bitch . . .
Justin was playing with me this whole time. His plan all along was to tease me until I got desperate enough to loosen our agreement’s restrictions. He’s trying to tempt me into admitting that I want to be more than just friends. He thinks he can prove himself right and also get laid—two birds with one stone.
Well, he can just forget about it. Selena Cane does not beg. Ever.
I’m almost more pissed off at myself than him. What the hell was I thinking? Not much, that’s for sure. My libido just totally ripped me out of the driver’s seat. I’ve never felt so out of control before. And if I have anything to say about it, this first time will also be the last.
Damn, my lips still tingle from his kiss. My face burns with embarrassment and the last stubborn traces of arousal.
Trying to collect myself, I give Justin the dirtiest look I can muster. “You’re the devil.”
“I’m pretty sure that would make you the queen of hell, then.” He pauses. “Actually, maybe that’s not so inaccurate . . .”
“Congratulations, smartass, you get to finish the dishes while I put on my makeup.” I turn on my heel and stalk away to the bathroom.
“As you wish,” he calls down the hall after me.
I set my jaw, trying to tamp down my irritation and lingering horniness. I know of only one sure way to shut him up. Unfortunately, as I just learned, he would only turn a kiss to his advantage again.
I can’t forget Justin’s boast about how I’d be begging by Day Four. At first, I thought there was no way I’d give in that easily. But now, only one day later, I’m not so sure.
Chapter Eleven
Justin
When we reach the conference room, it’s filled to capacity with nearly all the office staff in the building. All the seats at the long conference table are taken, and it’s standing room only at the back of the room.
I see Rosita tucked into the far corner and she gives me a cheerful wave. She wasn’t on the invite for the meeting, but I texted her to be here. There’s no way I could let her miss out on hearing the big news. I know she’s as proud of me as my own mother would have been.
Selena’s father is standing at the head of the room, chatting casually with Prescott and the few members of the board who opted to show. I know they’re less than optimistic about the results Selena and I are promising.
As we wait for the big announcement to begin, people are talking in small groups. Some chat about the work they’re so passionate about, while others are just making small talk with the workplace friends they’ve developed over the years. These are all the people who’ll lose their jobs if we’re not successful. Real people. With real problems and real lives. And all of that is on the line.
My stomach tightens.
“I need a drink,” Selena grumbles beside me.
“Good idea,” I murmur.
I wonder if she’s still pissed at me for leaving her high and dry this morning. Probably. But after the way she rolled her tight little ass over in bed last night after giving me a hard-on with her soft, wet kisses and little groans of encouragement? Forcing me to go tend to the beast if I wanted any hope of falling asleep? Yeah, payback’s a bitch.
Her gaze wanders to the side table near the windows, where carafes of coffee and trays of Danishes have been placed.
“I don’t see any tea. You want coffee?” she asks, already starting toward it.
I shake my head. “Thanks for asking, but I’m good.”
Moments later, Selena returns with a paper cup of steaming black coffee.
“Let’s begin,” Fred announces in a booming voice. Silence settles over the room, and all eyes focus on him.
He takes a step forward. “I’ve called this meeting today to share a special announcement.” He looks over at me and Selena and smiles briefly before turning his attention back out onto the crowd. “It is with great honor that I announce the next generation of Tate & Cane . . . my daughter, Selena, and Bill’s son, Justin, are taking over operations as co-CEOs.”
A murmur of whispers erupts all around us.
“I know, I know.” Fred silences the crowd with a wave of his hand. “The family decided to reject the board’s proposal, at least for now, and prove to you that we can turn this company profitable under their leadership by the end of this financial quarter.”
We see a few heads nodding, but most people still look uncertain. I don’t blame them. Their jobs are at stake, and what proof do they have that Selena and I can actually pull this off—and so fast? None.
“Please put your hands together and welcome your new co-CEOs.” He claps enthusiastically and everyone follows suit, treating us to a round of applause.
After the noise dies down, Selena steps forward with a short but eloquent speech about how devoted we are to succeeding, and how we’ll need the cooperation and hard work of everyone in this room to win together. Honestly, I’m not sure exactly what she says because I see Harrison eye-fucking Selena from where he stands in the back of the room, and blood thunders in my ears.
As Selena finishes, I step forward and take her hand in mine. That prick from accounting is about to know for certain who she belongs to.
“I have a related announcement, actually. Might as well get it all out in the open, since I have nothing to hide.” I grin at Selena, who looks like she’s ready to murder me. “The rumors are true. Selena and I are dating.”
“But it won’t detract from our business focus,” she says, interrupting me.
Damn. Everything about this woman is stiff and unrelenting. What I need is to get her to loosen up and relax. She’s wound too tight. She needs to learn to stop and smell the roses once in a while. Work aside, that becomes my next priority.
Plus, I still have to figure out how I’m going to win the bet we’ve made. Only three more days to get her wet and naked and begging for me . . . And just like that, it moves up to the top of my agenda.
I fight off the wave of arousal that hits me and smile as we field questions from the employees.

As soon as the meeting ends and the entire company isn’t watching us, Selena storms away without a word and refuses to answer my knock on her office door. I guess my little impromptu announcement pissed her off even more than I thought.
