2022 Art Summary

it is that time of the year again, folks. this year has felt like forever and so short simultaneously. it’s felt like nothing and everything was happening. it was a weird year for me, probably because for the most part it was rather monotonous. but there were some good things to look back on, and as per usual i’m here to round it up here for you all to look at and enjoy :3

i’ll be honest. i was really worried about the art summary this year at first because these first few months were so sparse. i even considered just condensing the whole thing into quarters since this one was so lacking. but as the year went on, the more things i had to share, so for sake of brevity i will be putting the first three months up all at once

included in this quarter are assorted Cosmic Legacy character sketches, a Genshin Impact sona to continue the trend i had wanted to set at the end of 2021 (which i did not continue afterward), a lil valentine’s day present to my girlfriend, and a shiny form for my sona that was just part of a inside bandwagon. not much to say otherwise :/

the one major thing that happened in the first few months of 2022 was that i FINALLY. GOT MY HANDS. ON A NINTENDO SWITCH. I CAN NO LONGER MEME ABOUT BEING SWITCHLESS

so that was pretty exciting :>

the release of Pokemon Legends: Arceus is what broke me, but before i played that i started off with a blind nuzlocke of Pokemon Shield, which is what the lil digital doodle in March is about; i had just caught a Stunky i named Wasabi and i was indifferent to Stunky up until catching him where i just fell in love with it

so, AI art, huh? this was when it was burgeoning, and still fun and popular to make. so when i saw some people using a 3d pokemon generator i made a whole bunch and gave it a go. i generated about 30 of them and hadn’t quite gotten to around a third of that, but the few i did were really fun to draw!

(the lil gremlin one at the top corner is uncolored here bc when i did try to color it my brain fully glitched and screwed up royally so i opted out of showing my failure here lol)

so my friend Cake started streaming a game called Your Turn to Die with me and our partner Stacey during the spring starting in late March, and it was such an incredible time that i miss being a part of (if you wanna watch our full playthrough, the vods are saved on her channel here)

so towards the end of our playthrough i decided to try my hand at drawing some stuff because my brain could not simply hold all of my feelings for them

i am definitely not biased because i played both Keiji and Rio Ranger in the stream, but i sure did like them a lot, and it was really fun to draw them :>

had a lot of cosmic drawings this month, most likely due to celebrating the One Year Anniversary of the concept at the beginning of the month! we celebrated with a cute little collab. i happened to continue the cosmic train on my end by coming up with a funny meme video idea (that we will get back to multiple times later on) and i also worked on a couple pieces in preparation for an upcoming event in the next month...

I FINALLY REMEMBERED TO SIGN UP AND PARTICIPATE IN ARTFIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME

it was a really fun event but i did not anticipate how late i would start my entries and how much time it would take to do them well, so i only got a few out, but i’m really proud of them! it was awesome to see all these brain children of random people from all around, and to get a couple responses back of my own as well! i’m excited to give it another go next year :3

i did not get a whole lot of art things done this month because MY GIRLFRIEND (and her roommate) CAME FROM OVERSEAS TO VISIT!!

it was such a great time being with them, and we had so much going on i didn’t get much opportunity to do much, but that was fine. one thing, related to my partner actually, is my pokemon gym trainer sona here! Stacey had been thinking about a fakemon region and wanted her friends as gym leaders, so i offered myself as a ground-type trainer, since it’s one of my favorite types and is rather underrated

a little more work got done on the cosmic meme video, and a couple other lil doodles. not much else artwise, but an awesome month regardless :3

idk why this month was so lacking, cuz this is pretty much all i had lol

the one decent sketch of my sona being angy was inspired by a post i found on here that was like... if you were a villain in a movie, what song would be playing at the point you would snap

and the choice i made was Faint by Linkin Park cuz it seemed applicable. and then my brain decided to listen to it on repeat and i ended up drawing that sketch. so that was cool :0

as per usual i do at least attempt to do an october art challenge, and this time i wanted to try this year’s annual list from Thomas Sanders, and it was pretty fun! i was really into it the first week, but then i got behind and after that point many of the prompts didn’t hold my attention, so... i trailed off. again

but! i do really like these ones in particular. didn’t really have much else after that so i’m glad i had fun with those

again this is p much all i had - november was a pretty nice time actually, with lots of gaming stuff going on with me n friends, but not so much art stuff was going on then

after having completed playing pkmn shield back in june, i tried my hand at pkmn legends pretty much right after that... and it didn’t quite click with me, though i did really like it. and then over the next few months i got back into pkmn go and that’s when i realized That’s more like what legends is about - it just screwed me up coming from a regular pkmn game. so, this month, i picked it up again and i’ve gotten much farther and much more attached!

in addition, later in the month my friends and i got back into playing stardew valley after nearly a year’s hiatus, and we made our characters based on the main trio in Cosmic Legacy, and so i drew Lalun with a parsnip. it was funny

and speaking of cosmic and video game things, Sonic Frontiers came out and i... did not get that one (though i will one day cuz it looks rad) BUT one of my friends got super into it and got me hooked on one of the songs, and then the part of my brain that associates fandom stuff with songs (a rarely triggered part of my brain) started to tie that to [REDACTED] here, as inspiration for their character. maybe. idk but the song gave me vibes that they could definitely have and i thought it was cool and i made a cool art with it too so yay

and here we are, at the end of the year! the sonic hype train was still rolling so i thought about giving them another go and they turned out pretty good! and i pumped out some more pokemon content at the very end to inflate this month’s art stuff a lil bit more

all in all it’s been. a year, to say the least. i am definitely looking forward to new things in the new year, but this one had been pretty alright. lots of fun and memorable things that hopefully i can continue doing similarly in the future :3

August 2024 Wrapup

Ahah, tricks month draws to a close! I’ll stop talking about magic tricks and cons and weird ideas that people make up, now, I promise, right?

In the Story Pile, you can read my articles about:

The Apothecary Diaries, a charming mystery anime series about a weird little freak who just wants to drink poison for fun.

Better Call Saul, and the things in that TV series I found genuinely interesting in ways I don’t see other people talking about in the immense landscape of White Guys Having Opinions On Breaking Bad.

F For Fake, a really fun Orson Welles movie that plays a famous joke on its audience while also finding an excuse to ogle butts.

Pretty Boy Detective Club, a truly abysmal manga that uses a really cool concept and framing device to deliver a truly stunningly mid series.

Tricksters, a TTRPG that presents the challenge of vibes-based game design.

Among Us, a video form of my original article about the social deduction game.

The Initiative, an article about a truly fantastic game that I got to play with my family and they’ve loved it.

Tanuki Sunset, a game where I wasn’t good enough at it to think about anything about how I’m not good at it.

The Arilou from Star Control 2, a culture from one of the games in its genre that I most like to talk about, a deep dive on just one culture and how it addresses a problem that Science Fiction stories often have to struggle with.

I had some writing about TTRPG and fantasy worldbuilding. For a start, I talked about the idea of ‘racialised groups’ and what ‘pure’ groups represent in a world. I talked about the way that the setting of Eberron, back in 3rd edition, changed the value of the skill Disable Device as an example of how the skills in your world should reflect the kinds of things players want to do. Then I spent a week talking about the ramifications of the Fey in Cobrin’Seil, which wound up taking up three whole articles unto itself (1, 2, 3).

I talked about a custom Magic problem, where people seemingly design a card to solve a problem that isn’t a problem, in You Can Just Concede. While talking about cards and magic, I talked about how you can get into magic (the tricky manipulative thing, not the game thing). Then with that in mind, I talked about the question of where and what magic is, considering it doesn’t exist.

Also since it’s Tricks Month, that’s a great chance to talk about liars, fools, tricksters and assholes in fictional contexts. Such as Swindle, a Transformer, or Pokemon that are hiding secret criminal backgrounds, or the soul ransomers in the Bible, or even the cheaters that play in the fiction of real world competitive sports. Heck, there’s even an example of three truly weird groups that are all sharing their own personal myths about real world things in a kind of fandom self-grift.

Also, we have a bit of a new experiment for Fox and I with the Lets Play series, where we played three of the five episodes of the Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People episodic games. They’ve been added to my Lets Play playlist, and there’ll be more as we continue into September!

This new semester has been really exciting. I have a large cohort of students, but there’s a lot of work being done to put the work in the immediate space around my students. My students this semester are also tackling some ideas that are really interesting and that’s all you get out of me. If you found this, and you’re one of my students: Congratulations, I’m really proud of you, and you’re all really interesting. Take that.

I did do something a little different for me, though. I went to a board game website and I bought some games — and not just ‘a game’ but ‘a game I really wanted and that I will need to make special time for me to play,’ in the form of Libertalia: Winds of Galecrest. I don’t know how to frame this as a big deal to me, but the thing with it is I saw this game back in January, at around this price at Cancon. And I decided that even though I wanted it (it’s such a cool system for action selection), that even the resistance of getting it home was going to be too much for me, and I gave up and left it there. Seeing it at the same price, now, eight months later, I had it in me to admit: I still want this thing. I still like the idea of this thing. I am willing to get this thing.

I also got That’s So Clover into the bargain, and Fox and I played a two-person version of that game, which showed her how neat the system was (and also how that game is going to compete with Just One, which is an otherwise titanic game for ‘get to play it’ speed). I played a game, Cobalt Core, then kept playing it, and played it until I had all the achievements and then played it until I had everything in it, and then I did a speedrun of it. Then I speedran it again! But that’s not all, I actually put down money on a second game, which I don’t know if I’ll ever talk about on the Game Pile just because the schedule is kinda booked for the rest of the year.

I was able to make some choices this month about recognising things that would make my life better and I took action to get them. Which isn’t a big thing but it’s not nothing.

This month I’ve been trying to stick to that habit: Never nothing. A little at a time can get me places, which means any day I don’t do nothing, I’ve done something.

What book are you currently reading?

Kith and Kin by Marieke Nijkamp! I’ve had it for over a year and have just gotten around to actually reading it lol

What’s your favorite movie you saw in theaters this year? 

The only movie I remember seeing in theatres this year is the Dune movie, so that one wins by default. I do have more plans in the works to see more movies next year though, namely the Mario movie, and the DnD movie.

What do you usually wear?

Jeans or yoga pants/leggings, with graphic tees in the summer and graphic sweaters in the winter, or a graphic tee with a jacket over it if the temperature is right. Most of the tops I own are merch for various dnd actual plays, most of which are Critical Role because they make good quality clothing.

Gemini! I found out last year that Kyle from Unprepared Casters and I share a birthday.

Do you go by your name or a nickname? 

My name irl, I go by Petall in online spaces and on the occasions where I have met internet friends irl.

Did you grow up to become what you wanted to be as a child? 

Growing up I was deadset on becoming a veterinarian. From the time I was 9 to the time I was in Grade 12 I seriously pursued this as a goal. I volunteered at vet clinics, looked for opportunities to watch surgeries, and took all the high school sciences I would need. Then the first week of Grade 12 I realized that becoming a veterinarian would take a lot of time and not give me much of a social life, and I wanted to be more present for the people in my life, so I decided to work with people instead. I just got my Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Youth Care and I have a job at an Emergency Youth Shelter.

What’s something you’re good at vs something you’re bad at? 

I’m really good at writing (and writing lots), I do a lot of creative writing in my spare time. I am not very good at sports, or anything athletic.

If you draw/write, or create in any way, what's your favorite picture/favorite line/favorite etc. from something you created this year? 

I am insanely proud of this paper lantern that I made for a final project in an art class I took as an elective early this year! It’s meant to depict Lottie from arc 6 of Unprepared Casters, as well as her ghost friends. I still have it hanging up in my room.

Dogs or cats?

I do like both, but I probably lean more towards dogs than cats

What's something you would like to create content for? 

I would really love to be on one of my favourite DnD actual plays, but I am a cast member for a Minecraft DnD actual play podcast coming out in the new year! I still feel like joining the cast of one of the actual plays I listen to is a pipe dream, but I am excited to be entering that sphere and hope it opens up other opportunities in other smaller actual plays!

I also really want to stream myself doing a series of pokemon nuzlockes, but my schedule is too unpredictable rn to settle into a routine with that, so that’s a future plan.

What’s something you’re currently obsessed with? 

Unprepared Casters, always. Also, boy howdy, Dimension 20: Neverafter sure has a hold on me rn, the brainrot is real.

What's something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?

I was really excited to get my job in Out of School Care at the same place I worked summer camp at, but while I love working with kids, working with youth at my practicum placement (and now part-time job now that my practicum is done) has lead me to see I much prefer working with an older age group. Once an opportunity for a full-time position at the youth shelter opens up, I plan on giving my notice to the Out of School Care position, but until that happens I plan to see out the school year to follow through on my contract.

What’s a hidden talent of yours? 

My middle sibling and I are really good at doing spontaneous improv bits together and I wish I could show them off, but we never plan them and attempting to film them would not allow it to happen naturally.

What's something you wish to have at this moment? 

I want my cold to go away :( I have been sick for the past several days and have had to cancel multiple fun plans as a result :(((( Let me get better so I can enjoy Christmas shenanigans!!!!!! I want clear nostrils again!!! My body faked me out yesterday and I felt better for most of the day, then I took a nose-dive in the evening and I feel worse than ever :(((((((((((

2020 art summary...!! I know there’s a few days left of the year but I already had all the pieces I wanted to share in mind :’)

This year was so rough man;; but despite that I’ve managed to draw something every month, so that’s something to be proud of! I’ve definitely come a long way and have improved a lot compared to last year, so. Progress!!

It was PMD time again!! I think Rescue Team DX had just gotten announced so the hype was suuuper crazy. I did a lot of gijinka design revamps in January as well! I actually chose to show this one over everything else because I had Pip and Chim in my 2019 January art summary as well. It seemed fitting

Back on my Senyuu craze...it had been a little while since I’d been so into the series but yes it was definitely fun to revisit it and fall down that rabbit hole again lmao

The beginning of my crazy BNHA AU explosion. I got back into it this year and after that there was no turning back. Anyway Bottled Soul was a big one and is still one of my faves!

This one was actually posted in May BUT I did it for Mother 3′s anniversary (which falls on April 20th) so I had to put it in this spot especially since I’ve drawn an anniversary piece for the last 5 years :’))))

Ah yes this was when my ATS obsession kicked back in and right after I’d made a design for Hiro and fully expanded on his backstory along with Kaz, Ginni, and Olivia! My babies. They are good boys please protect them

I definitely finished this piece before August but that was when I was allowed to post it so. It was for the Tododeku Sun and Moon zine! I had lots of fun doing this one and I think it turned out very well. I love them.

You guessed it more Tododeku is anybody surprised at this point. After the OVA dropped and I watched it I IMMEDIATELY dashed off to draw this and I don’t have a single regret

MY PROMARE PHASE........I watched it 9 times within the first week of seeing it and god I love it so much. I HAD to make an AU for it and I slapped it onto Trustedpartner because I love them and it fits them perfectly and you can’t tell me otherwise

November

BNHA movie teaser got announced! I ran off to draw more Tododeku! I experimented a lot with lighting and color in this one and I am very pleased with the result. It’s pretty. They’re pretty

December

I did a 6 fanarts challenge again! Dawn was my favorite of the batch, so here she is. I did more experimenting with lighting and had so much fun (tho it took forever lmao)

Thank you to all of you for staying with me and supporting me throughout the year...especially since it’s been so crazy! Jumin Week 2021 Day 4: Denebola Tail of The Lion Eevee

Note: for suspension of disbelief, let's just assume Eevees are really rare in the Pokemon world

When Jumin Han received an Eevee everybody looked forward to their evolution.

It was well known the boy had a privileged education combined with a high IQ. He didn't need to go on huge travels to acquire experience like the rest of the kids.

All his progress was made from the safety of his mansion, with the few occasions in which he accompanied his father on his business trips...

Actually, he wasn't supposed to become a Master Pokemon at such a young age, barely a few years from graduating from high school.

He wasn't even supposed to be a Pokemon trainer at all, his path as the future Chairman of CR decided for him ever since he was in the cradle.

Training Pokemon was something that started for him as a hobby, something to do in his free time between lectures, back there on the private island, that was how it started.

His first Pokemon were the wild creatures of the island, but not for the press of course. For them, each animal was obviously a gift from his wealthy father, and that's how eventually it became true.

His father, unable to avoid spoiling his son as much as he could, made a point of bringing in a new animal every time he came back from some foreign land, and that was how accidentally Jumin became a true Master Pokemon.

So, when he acquired an Eevee from one of his last trips, everyone was expectant at what kind of evolution he will choose.

Speculations were made about either it was more convenient for him to get a Vaporeon or a Jolteon, what about a rare type? Surely a great master like him had all the stones he needed. Surely a great master like him would take such a decision based on strategy and logic. Surely such a way of thinking was what led him to win so many battles in the past, right?

So... It surprised everyone when the Eevee evolved into an Umbreon...

What benefit could bring a dark type at this point? And a weak one at that? He already had Pokemon that served that function.

Rich people... All of them are weird... They can give themselves the luxury of waisting the ownership of an Eevee...

What nobody knew was that Jumin was never interested in winning battles in the first place, he just really enjoyed the company of the animals and they just flocked to him given his welcoming nature.

Jumin never forced himself on one of them, never captured one by force. Instead, he shared what he had with them. He shared his food and his time, but most importantly he shared his love for them...

That was what led them to want to win battles for him... To make him look good, to make him proud...

Most importantly, to defend him.

So when the Eevee took his final form it was a response to the love he received from Jumin. What nobody understood was that this Pokemon was the representation of all the others who fell on his hands. It was his love what made them flourish.

That Pokemon would become fiercely protective of his owner and be a big source of comfort for him in the upcoming dark years.

But the press would never know that.

in order, from earliest to newest:

Aegie (Aegislash) - every angel has an aegislash bc every angel’s aegislash is an extension of themselves, and of their angel blade. it’s why cas’ has white and gray accents and a blue eye - all angels’ aegislashes look like that. it’s the grace. aegie was not called aegie before dean learned that cas had never nicknamed his very first partner pokemon. (cas, you will find, is not the Most creative at naming his partners.) aegie, being essentially an extension of cas and cas’ grace, doesn’t exactly have what one would call a ‘sparkling personality’, but, as cas learns more about humanity and emotion, aegie translates that outwards... whether cas wants it to or not

Raven (Corviknight) - another heavenly creature (again, you can see the grace in the eyes). heavenly corviknights are exclusive to seraphs, and cas received one when he was promoted. raven is FIERCELY protective of cas, often to its detriment (it picks a lot of fights), and frankly doesn’t much like the winchesters. really it doesn’t like much of anybody, except cas, but it will tolerate its master’s humans, so long as they don’t try to touch it. or breathe in its direction. this one also didn’t get a nickname until dean found out it didn’t have one, but cas decided to name it after an earthly creature when dean told him just shortening its name to ‘corvi’ was, and I quote, ‘not creative, man’

Honey (Vespiquen) - can you guess when cas caught this one? can you guess? if you said when he followed a combee in the garden while he was at the mental hospital, you’d be correct! it was pure coincidence he managed to befriend a female one (and befriend is the right word, he’s only ever caught any of his team members so he wouldn’t have to leave them behind whenever he had to travel). he thought of her name all by himself and he’s very proud of it. honey is the most chill of cas’ team, as well as the one with the best comedic timing. she’s essentially adopted cas’ larvesta as her daughter

Blade (Bisharp) - cas picked blade up as a pawniard when he first fell and became human, on his way to the bunker. blade was in a bit of a bad spot, too, so he attached himself to cas very, very quickly, and became very, very bitter when they were kicked out of the bunker. all he knows is that his new friend got hurt by this other human and now dean is basically permanently on his hit list. blade is also fiercely protective of cas, and gets very up in arms about the fact that raven was there first and is also taller than him. he has a temper

Fluffy (Larvesta) - as a seraph, fire types are attracted to cas whenever he’s on earth. sometimes it’s a problem, sometimes it’s hilarious, and sometimes a very determined larvesta follows cas for three miles back to the bunker so that she can cuddle up with him. he took her in on the spot. as the baby of the team, all of them keep trying to teach her different things and influence her in different ways, but she’s most attached to honey as the only other bug type available. she also just likes to scare dean by sitting on his chest when he sleeps and getting right in his face for when he wakes up. but other than that she’s an angel (no pun intended)

Krenko's Guide to Pokemon: Slowpoke Line

Posted as early as could be expected.

DESIGN:

Slowpoke is some sort of hippo lizard sloth thing, and honestly I'm not entirely sure what it is, but I do know that it's cute, goofy, and unique. There's a great deal of simplicity to Slowpoke, but it all works out in its favor, making it just seem like some sort of normal animal that exists in an environment.

The Galarian form has some yellow bits which, honestly, I do not care about. I don't have a probelm with the design of Galarian Slowpoke, I just think that it's not different enough from regular Slowpoke for me to care.

Slowbro takes the basic Slowpoke and puts it upright by balancing it with the huge shell on its tail. It adds an interesting visual component similar to a hermit crab, but I'll admit, I don't really get it. I don't dislike it or anything, but I don't understand how having an angry shell on its tail makes Slowbro smarter and more powerful.

Galarian Slowbro, on the other hand, takes that shell and uses it to shoot some sort of toxic whatever, and frankly I love that idea. You've added a megabuster-like-weapon to a slowpoke and you've got something that's clearly displaying new attack forms. Weirdly, it relies on the assumption taht the shell is high in poison, which means a Shellder, a non-poison Pokemon, transformed into something high in Poison. The fact that Turban never became its own Pokemon really seems like we're missing a lot of explanation on this.

And then there's Mega Slowbro which I can't even take seriously enough to talk about look at this stupid thing I love it so much it's the dumbest design ever and I can't stop grinning.

Slowking, the alternate evolution, involves the shell biting Slowpoke's head instead of its tail, turning into a hat. This directly injects the poisons that Shellder DOESN'T HAVE into Slowpoke's brain, making it much smarter somehow. Seriously, we need to see Turban as a Water/Poison type so we can get our understanding of how Slowpoke works better.

Galarian Slowking is a similar design, but the Evolved Shellder is lower and covers its face, because on this Pokemon, the Shellder is in charge. Gone is your Slowpoke entirely. Like with Parasect or Hydreigon, you have effectively killed your Pokemon by evolving it. I hope you're proud of yourself, you monster.

Visually, I don’t like how the purple goes. It looks too much like the top half is in shadow rather than the top half being a different color. I’d much rather the purple appear in more of a pattern, or spots, like on Galarian Slowbro.

EVOLUTIONS:

Uuuuuuugh.

Slowpoke evolves into Slowpoke at 37, or Slowking when traded with a King's Rock, but Galarian Slowpoke uses a Galarica Cuff or a Galarica Wreath to evolve, which are basically the same thing, and none of these evolutions address the question of where the Shellder comes from and how it evolves into Turban. This is possibly the messiest evolutionary line in all of Pokemon.

And then there's a Mega Slowbro, which is cool, but only one of the four potential Slowpoke evolutions gets a Mega Form, and that's just weird, right? It's like if there was a Mega Jolteon and no other Mega Eevees, or if there was a Mega Hitmonlee but not a Mega Hitmonchan or Mega Hitmontop.

TYPING:

Slowpoke, Slowbro, and Slowking are all Water/Psychic, as is Mega Slowbro.  Galarian Slowpoke is pure psychic, with both Galarian evolutions being Psychic/Poison.

Water/Psychic is a decent defensive type, with five weaknesses and six resistances. Offensively, the pair only works Super-Effective against five types, but with no shared resistances, Slowbro and Slowking don't need to worry about additional attacks for coverage.

Psychic/Poison has just three weaknesses, but also only four resistances, which is a reasonable tradeoff.  Offensively, it's much weaker, only super-effective against four types, and with no attacks that work well against Steel type opponents.

STATS:

Stats of the four Slowpoke evolution are all somewhat similar. All have a respectable 95 HP and an expectedly awful 30 speed. Most have 100 special attack, with Galarian Slowking's a bit better at 110.  Their physical attacks vary wildly, but only Galarian Slowbro's, at 100, is high enough to warrant using Physical Attacks with. The rest are strictly special attackers. The tradeoff comes in that Galarian Slowbro also has the worst defenses, with its defenses being 95 and 70 instead of the 110 and 80 (physical lean for Slowpoke, special for Slowking) that the other three have.

Mega Slowbro is of course just better. Though its special defense is still only 80, its physical defense is a whopping 180, and its special attack jumps to 130, making it something that can both take hits and dish them out.

ABILITIES:

Every Slowpoke evolution has Own Tempo, which prevents Confusion and Intimidate, and it's frankly the wrong answer for all of them. Confusion's just not that huge an issue.

The Water-Type evolutions can also get Oblivious, which prevents infatuation, taunting, and intimidate, which is... still not really important.

Galarian Slowbro gets a unique ability option called QUick Draw, which gives Slowbro a chance to go first even when it has slower speed, which is most of the time. This is decent, but a 30% chance means it's unreliable. Long term it'll come up often enough, but not enough to ensure it matters when you need it to.

Galarian Slowking has a unique ability called Curious Medicine, which resets stat  changes of ally Pokemon when it enters the battlefield. This only matters in 2v2s, and even then is a niche feature, because switching out a pokemon resets its stat changes anyway.

But then they all get Regenerator.

Regenerator heals the pokemon by 1/3 its max HP when you switch it out. This means switching isn't a waste of a turn, and Slowpoke's evolutions all have decent enough HP that 1/3 is a reasonable number. It's a hidden ability, but the simple fact is that Regenerator is the best choice for all Slowpokes.

Mega Slowbro has Shell Armor, making it immune to critical hits. This is fine. It's not the most impressive, but it's the only option.

Yadon Bay by Tymkiev

MOVES:

Water-type Slowbro and Slowking are Scald Tanks. Their role is very simple: They use Scald to do damage and burn the target, then they use Slack Off to heal up. Leftovers help. Everything else is secondary. Their only real differences are that one's better against physical attacks and the other's better against special attacks... and Slowbro can Mega Evolve.

Everything else is secondary. Nasty Plot or Calm Mind can be used to increase damage. Psychic, Psyshock, or Future Sight can be used as a second attack for coverage, as can off-type attacks like Shadow Ball, Flamethrower, and Ice Beam. Thunder Wave can reduce damage from special attackers. With Regenerator, Slowbro and Slowking users will often want to make use of Teleport, as it lets you switch after taking a hit rather than before. Assuming the hit doesn't drop your Slowpokemon, they'll immediately heal some of it while your other pokemon arrives without eating an attack.

Galarian Slowbro's signature attack, Shell Side Arm, uses Physical or Special attack depending on the opponent's defenses, suggesting that it should focus on being good at both physical and special attacks. This can prove advantageous against many pokemon and inhibits the ability to tank against it. Unfortunately, while Galarian Slowbro has access to Calm Mind, Curse, Nasty Plot, and Belly Drum, it doesn't get any way to increase both Physical and Special attack at the same time, and investing in both physical and special attack for stats means taking away from other places. Losing the heightened defenses of the Slowbro in favor of being able to use both physical and special attacks just isn't a great deal.

Galarian Slowbro is still competent enough that it can be built as a special attacker with Sludge Bomb, Psychic, decent coverage moves, Nasty Plot or Calm Mind, and reasonable bulk, but it's just going to be generally weaker about it than Galarian Slowking, which goes the other way and trades off the Physical Attack it wasn't using for more Special Attack.

Galarian Slowking's signature attack, Eerie Spell, is a bit weaker than Psychic, but also does PP damage. It's possible this winds up being tactically useful, especailly if building Galarian Slowking with Slack Off for longer combats, but I expect Galarian Slowking's best psychic attack option to be Psychic, Psyshock, or the slow-but-powerful Future Sight. For a Poison attack, Sludge Bomb is the obvious answer.

Despite not being water type Galarian Slowking can still use Scaled to try and poison its targets, both doing damage while it Slacks Off and reducing their physical attack. Similarly, Thunder Wave is still an option.  Really, you can just build Galarian Slowking as you would a Kantonian Slowbro or Slowking, with the note that you're also able to use Sludge Bomb.

OVERALL:

Slowbro and Slowking are basically the same Pokemon, and it's actually kind of weird that they're not. The only relevant difference is which is higher of physical or special defense, and while I suppose that IS relevant, it's odd that we have four Pokemon here that all basically play the same... Except Galarian Slowbro which just got the short end of the stick.

Overall I like Slowbro and both Slowkings, but Galarian Slowbro really feels like it needs a bit more oomf to compete with all of them. A higher physical attack would be great, or if Shell Side Arm always used Slowbro's Special but could attack Physical or Special defense, or even just getting "Work Up" or something that increased both Physical and Special at once would be good, but the simple fact is, Galarian Slowbro's offense increase doesn't really matter in the face of Galarian Slowking. And why the hell can’t Galarian Slowbro learn Toxic? Its pokedex entry absolutely says it can.

Also, at this point I'm confident in saying Eevee's going to be more than one article.

He silently catalogues all this information and tries to figure out what kind of gift you would appreciate. I mean we all know Kenma is super wealthy but I think if he bought you something expensive he’d buy it because he knows it means a lot to you or it’s something you’d use a lot! One thing I could see him getting is a set of matching gameboy terrarium/planters for the two of  you so you can both have them on your desks as a reminder of each other. (I found this on Etsy, wakuwakuisland does super cool recycling of old retro gameboy consoles by turning them into pokemon themed terrariums. I love these sm i put a photo of one and one day when I am not broke i WILL order/commission one). I think it ends up being a fancy dinner at home - and the two of you exchange gifts and spend the night cuddling on the couch while gaming.

How they propose: So at this point his followers/your followers all know you two are dating so you guys will help with streaming/show up on each other’s streams. Under the guise of asking you to help him film something - he sneakily sets up his surprise. So you pad over to the kitchen, he quickly pulls the ringbox out of his pocket and ends his stream. When you come back he’s already standing in the middle of the room with the box open - silver band glimmering. Since Hinata is from a more rural area of Sendai, he suggests a local venue to Kenma who gladly takes him up on his offer, since a bunch of the people he wants to invite are from the area anyways. The wedding is filled with lots of laughter and joy, and just in general it feels good to be surrounded with all the closest people in your life. Ok but also for your honeymoon he takes a full 2 month hiatus and travels the world with you - wherever you want to go you’ll visit. 

Newlywed/domestic hc: Towards the end of the giant honeymoon trip around the world the two of you start to miss home. So when you finally arrive back at your shared apartment (you moved all your belongings in the week before the wedding) it’s the most wonderful sense of relief and wonder ever. It’s like you’re reliving your firsts all over again - your first time going grocery shopping together, your first time cooking dinner together, first time in a while doing a stream together, first time falling asleep in your full sized bed together. After months of travelling, it just feels good to be home again and to be able to revel in the fact that you’re married.

Have you seen all the Lord of the Rings movies? No, not interested. What was the last thing you watched on YouTube? I'm watching John Wolfe's playthrough of Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. It's so funny how like... every let's player I watch doesn't enjoy the game, like they miss the incredible symbolism and shy away from the advanced language, and sometimes it's just frustrating to watch them; I only do because I enjoy the game and want to see more people experience it and relive it vicariously. It's very high on my list of favorite games. What sport do you find yourself best at? I wouldn't know; I haven't played any sports in years. I was pretty good at softball as a kid, though. Do you think makeup on guys is freaky or sexy? My opinion shouldn't matter; a man can wear makeup whenever he damn well pleases without worrying what others think. But anyway, I tend to find it attractive, especially if it's goth makeup. Have you ever been accused of a crime you did not commit? No. Do you like pickles? I love dill pickles. What was the craziest moment of your life? Probably just lying in that hospital bed following my OD, my mom and two best friends just sitting there with me. It was such a weird, weird feeling. Like I was just so done, frustrated beyond what I can say. I remember thinking it was almost funny, just how it all built up and went wrong. Where do you spend most of your time? In my room on my bed. What is your favorite muffin? Chocolate chip. Would you ever get a boob job? I already know when/if I lose the weight I want to, it will be kind of a big deal to me and my atrocious body image to get a breast lift. Being overweight ~does things~ you know, and god knows I want every trace of it that can be erased gone. Would you ever go on a reality TV dating show? That's a massive "no" from me, buddy. Would you rather be inside or outside? It depends on where I am and the temperature outside, but generally, inside. Do you like the current president? Well, I voted for him, so I can't shit-talk much. I don't know the true depths of him as a person and all he stands for, though; when I decided I needed to vote, I just did some research on his core values. I don't have any complaints yet, from what I've seen at least, which isn't a lot. Do you whiten your teeth? I've used whitening strips before, but I don't now because they're not that effective. If it's financially plausible at some point in my life, teeth whitening is another thing I want to have medically done because of my previous horrible self-care. My teeth have a clear yellow tint and I hate it. Do you get cold easily? No; it's actually the opposite: I get hot easily. What was the worst sickness you ever had? Probably this one stomach bug I had where I just threw up relentlessly. Like eventually barely even bile would come up; it was just dry heaving. My stomach muscles were in agony. Was your childhood wasted by something? No, thankfully. Would you rather die during an adventure or die like a normal person? A normal person. The idea of having such a sudden death stresses me out for multiple reasons; I mostly don't want my family to just be suddenly devastated, and I honestly want to come to peace with the fact I was dying. Like, find my life's own closure instead of just having it ripped away. Have your parents ever tried to commit suicide? Jesus, I sure hope not. Do you have a gag reflex? A very strong one. Do you ever fantasize about trying drugs? I've wondered before what the effects of weed would be like for me, but "fantasize" is definitely the wrong word. Would you rather have sex before you’re married or wait till marriage? It'd be up to my partner, honestly, because I'm fine with either. What is the nastiest dare you have ever committed? I never did dares because I thought they were stupid. Like I'm not gonna do dumb shit just to show you I can. Do you know anyone who has been raped? I think I might? Have you ever asked someone for a tampon? Yeah. Do you have any exes you can’t stand anymore? No. Are you more of a phone or a computer person? Computer. Do you prefer headphones or earbuds? Earbuds. Headphones are just big and clunky and in the way when you use a laptop in bed, plus they irritate my skin. I like how earbuds actually go in your ears for more direct hearing. Would you ever consider adopting a child with a severe mental illness? If I wanted children, no, because I don't think I'm capable to give a child like that adequate care, being so mentally ill myself. I wouldn't want to risk worsening their condition. Favorite thing to do with a significant other? Play games together, particularly cute multiplayer ones that are more about the experience of playing together versus getting past difficult obstacles and such. Like for example, one of my favorite memories with Jason is simply playing Little Big Planet together. Favorite ice cream topping? I don't like many toppings on my ice cream, but I do love melted hot fudge. First boyfriend/girlfriend’s name? Aaron. Do you support PETA? Considering they are incredibly self-righteous extremists, no. Do you believe in the Big Bang Theory? Well, I believe in some sort of "god" figure that created the universe, so I don't think so. A condensed ball of nothing exploding to create something so extravagant? It sounds pretty far-fetched to me. But then again, maybe that semblance of a "god" I believe in created the universe through that, idk. It doesn't really matter now, though, does it. What happened happened, I'm not very concerned with it. What insect can you not stand the site of? It's more so larvae that I can't stand the sight of, like maggots and stuff. They make me squirm. Do you like Doctor Who? I've only seen one or two episodes, so I can't say. Do you approve of gay marriage? Of course I do. I'm bisexual and would like to get married, so I might marry a woman. Are you into politics? I'm really not. Do you think the world is ending soon? Nah, even though it sure does feel like it sometimes. Ever been to a mosh pit? No, they don't seem very fun at all. Do you like to debate? NO. NO NO NO. Do you like the band System of a Down? Yeah, I do. Are you German? It's a big part of my heritage. Do your parents like your best friend? Yes. Who’s someone you can act your complete self around? Sara, 100%. She's the only person I feel entirely comfortable around when it comes to being myself. Do you believe in Friday the 13th? I don't believe in there being any supernatural power to it, no. Who is your favorite rapper? Eminem. What age is your youngest aunt? Uhhhh I have no idea. Do you like bowling? Sure, it's fun. Do you like roasting marshmallows on a bonfire? I do. What shows or characters scared you as a child? Ghostface from the Scream series was my worst fucking nightmare. I couldn't even see pictures of him without crying. The King Ramses guy from Courage the Cowardly Dog also gave me a number of nightmares. Something about the way he was animated was very unnatural and unnerving to me.

2020 Art Summary

Yep, it’s 2021 already. 2020 is finally over. It felt like it lasted forever, and it felt like the end would never come, but here we are. Crazy how the time flew by.

I felt like I didn’t get much art done this year because of Current World Event, but I made a lot more than I thought I did. Even some of my new favorite pieces came out of this year, so I think that’s worth celebrating and looking back upon!

I was insanely productive during the first month of 2020, and looking back I was surprised at all the stuff I did, but then I remembered that that winter season was actually one of the best times of my life! I started being more socially involved, and I think my newfound drive at the time translated into all the art I pumped out this month. This is just a small fraction of what I made in January, but I only have so much space. Quite a few complex pieces in both style exploration and polishing my own style.

Apparently February was a rather intimate month. Things began to slow down in terms of my own art here, with me spending more time in social settings and school work ramping up, I didn’t have as much time to coop up in my room to draw. I did wanna do something for a friend’s Valentine’s Day OC art challenge, so I drew my lovey-dovey couple from Dance of 1000 Words havin’ a dance. Nothing actually came of that challenge, but it was fun to do regardless.

One of the things I was most proud of in the winter season was making more friends, and one of the closest friends I made was completely coincidental. I met a person named Kiri on the bus one night I decided to volunteer somewhere by myself, and we ended up chatting and getting along. They quickly told me their tumblr username, and I shot them a message immediately after they left. A couple days later, we met up for brunch, and we started becoming really close friends and creative partners!

Not much else happened in March cuz that’s when Current World Event started becoming an issue, but Kiri and I still kept in close touch and we randomly started developing a concept for a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Galar Edition. These are a handful of characters we thought up, with Skipper the Scorbunny and Dross the Dreepy as the main characters, Morgrem as the main antagonist, and some shopkeepers such as those of the Greedent Bank and the Indeedee General Store. This was also my first time drawing all of these Galar Pokemon (except Scorbunny, but I also made Skipper a bit more unique than a regular Scorbunny).

Lots of events happened this month. First of all, Steven Universe Future ended, one of my favorite and most influential shows was no longer continuing. I had to do something as tribute, both as a send-off to one of the greatest cartoons in the world and as a cathartic release for my feelings towards it.

A while later, I got the opportunity to start playing an MMO in beta called Fer.al, by the same people who made Animal Jam, which coincidentally I had also beta tested for back in the day. I ended up getting really attached to my first character, a Senri I named Sasha, and though I’ve made more characters than them since, they’re still my absolute favorite. Though I haven’t touched the game in a few months, I was really engrossed for a long time and enjoyed playing through the beta and early access phases.

At the end of the month, some friends of mine invited to a roleplay group with some mutuals, and we all played characters in a crime syndicate. Just a bunch of ragtag thieves and criminals who ended up together in order to protect an artifact called the Crown of Thieves, which was essentially a flag to be taken by other groups to prove that they are the best thieves in the land. My character was based heavily on my sona (if it wasn’t obvious) and was also influenced by Cloud Strife, since the FFVII Remake had just come out and I was super into watching the cutscenes at the time. My character’s (code)name is Valkyrie, and they are a mercenary, going between multiple different employers to carry out whatever duties they need to do. They have a more complicated backstory, but presently they were recently hired by recommendation of their friend Shark (played by @shmoots-universe​ who is also My friend now ily maya) who works with a group called the Court Cards who are currently in possession of the Crown of Thieves. Valk never really had a place to call home, but staying with this group of people had to be the closest they could get to that feeling. They still sleep with a knife under their pillow because of trust issue but that’s okay.

Okay, so technically these examples started in April, but I continued making content with them in May, and the month was just pretty void of art in general, so here I am addressing them.

There were two main things I worked on this month: a Steven Universe AU of my own and the whole #sixfanarts thing that kicked off around then. Let’s start with the fanart bits. I did two and a half of them (six in April and nine in May), and it was so much fun to be able to draw stuff I don’t normally do! My personal favorites are shown here: Blake Belladonna from RWBY, Roll from Megaman, Yuki Konno from Sword Art Online, and Link from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The other thing I’d been planning for a while was a Steven Universe AU, probably to cope with the show being over but also because I was inspired by a lot of those SU AU artists I started following at the time. I won’t share the details here because it’s gonna have its own blog at some point, but the example I’ve shown here is of a comic I made loosely in order to introduce a divergence in the plot of the story as well as introduce a character unique to my AU. It was a lot of fun figuring out how to draw the characters and get a feel for the style.

As the year progressed, my amount of art I made per month began to dwindle, this time mostly because school was kicking my ass especially hard with finals. However, I took what time I had to get some backburner pieces finished, like the Tigerlily picture which I sketched out a couple months back, and the Gunvolt picture which I started working on SIX YEARS AGO. I don’t quite know why I got the urge to work on it again after so long, but it was nice to finally realize. The other drawing for DOTS was done in the dead of night but I was really happy with how it came out.

Despite only having two summer classes left of school, this month was really rough because they demanded a lot of my time and attention. I did not have the gumption to do anything digital, so I stuck to my sketchbook to get out what I felt like getting out.

My friends and I did a stream of the game Helltaker, and I really enjoyed the concept, so in following my friends I made my own Helltaker demon OC named Raksha the Ravenous Demon (it’s a pun but also got mythical insp). I also got super into Hazbin Hotel at this point, mostly because the Addict music video dropped and I couldn’t get enough of it, so I doodled Angel Dust cuz I felt like it. The other drawing I did was actually a free commission I gave a friend of mine as a prize for a trivia game show I ran back in June. He along with a couple other friends got some free drawings from me for getting the top three scores, and this one in particular was fun because of how interesting it was. He wanted me to draw a video game reviewer called the Irate Gamer from a specific moment, and I decided to go ham and just make it as dramatic as possible.

University classes finally wrapped up and right after that I was in the process of moving out of my apartment and getting adjusted to living with my parents again. I did a couple of agg.io drawing sessions with my friends from the Court Cards group as well as a new Dungeons and Dragons homebrew group I had joined. I drew some more of Valkyrie and came up with a design for my DND character Qakuqtuq (or Kai for short). He is monkey grandpa and I love him.

My main focus was on finishing a polished piece for my friend Cake, whose birthday was in the upcoming month. I wanted it to be as amazing as possible, so I put a lot of time into getting more detailed and making them look good. In addition to that, I did a few TOME doodles just for fun. The creature on the bottom was for this month’s art challenge on my Discord server where we made original TOMERPG monsters, and I created Hundylow, a Crystal-element monster based on the Grindylow from English folklore.

This month was a lot more productive than the past few had been. I tried to do a 31-day art challenge called Creatober but failed to get past the third prompt because I was still swamped with other work. I’m still happy with what little I did, including the piece with my characters Kyle and Guarudan from DSWD.

I don’t remember how, but I also suddenly rediscovered an old Flipnote Hatena series called Tales of LostClan, a Warriors fan series that I would say was the most obscure thing I’ve ever been super invested in. It was what got me into the actual Warriors books, and I liked it so much I redrew the animations into a comic... twice. Didn’t get nearly as far the second time but clearly my love for this little fanfiction had not waned after nearly a decade. I felt like drawing a book cover/movie poster for the series, just to get it out there and see how much I’ve improved over all that time.

Also I felt like making a vampiresona just before Halloween because I never dress up for Halloween in art (or real life anymore, for that matter), and I wanted to do something like that for once. It was short-lived but I really liked the design!

The focus of this month was definitely on Pokemon stuff. As per usual I contributed to the current Gotta Draw ‘Em All collab, and I was tasked to draw Regieleki. It was really fun to figure out how to make it stand out and look like it was made of electricity.

I also committed a lot of my spare time to my Fakemon Gym Leaders, as I had been working on bringing them to life in the past year or so now. As of this post, I’ve finished rendering their full body poses and gym badges, but I’m still working on completing all eight VS portraits, the first half of which are shown here.

I... didn’t draw anything this month, actually. What I’m showing here was worked on in the last few days but has actually been in progress for a couple of months, and I just finished it earlier today, in 2021. But I needed to show something off, and it’s also about time I mentioned it.

Back in October, I kept seeing people rave about this game called Genshin Impact, and I was interested but not so much as to start playing it... until my friends started playing and I was like “fuck it, let’s download it”. Since that day, I have been super immersed and in love with this game, to the point I came up with my own canon based on my gameplay experiences. This also included the creation of an original player character: Astra, the non-binary Traveller. And now, I’ve finally drawn them and brought them to life.

It has been one hell of a year. I had some of the highest highs and lowest lows in 2020, lots of changes, and I have now officially moved onto the next chapter of my life now that my time at university is finally over. I’m very excited for what 2021 has to offer, and I’m going to go forward with great ambition.

For once, Bede surprises you.

He stares at you with a rather astonished expression; his eyes are wide, his lips parted ever so slightly, and for once, you’ve rendered him speechless.

“Is… everything okay?”

Tentatively, you reach out to brush your fingers against his, but of course he recoils as if he were burned. Cradling his hand into his chest, his previous expression is replaced with the raising of his nose, eyes peering down at you.

“Why wouldn’t everything be fine?” he scoffs, turning on his heels. “We’ll be late because of you. Hurry up, Champion.”

You can’t help the smile that curls your lips as, just like normal, you follow along behind the fairy type gym leader.

You both forward into the private car that has been sent for you both; black and sleek and clearly an expensive brand.

A lot has changed since the end of the tournament. Bede continued to refine his skill as Opal’s pupil, becoming one of Galar’s strongest gym leaders. And you continued on to strengthen yourself as Galar’s champion, protecting the region and battling any of the rising stars that seemed possible to endorse. Of course, though, no one has overthrown you in the years you’ve been champion. Raihan constantly jokes that you’ll be undefeated until the day you die, and of course that makes Bede seethe.

Glancing down at the rose-coloured dress that ruffles against the seat, you smile. Fingers fiddle idly with the silk, eyes fixed on the passing scene outside the car. The closeness of the two of you has your heart fluttering like a Butterfree, the feeling of Bede’s warm thigh against your own being rather foreign.

Quietly, and rather unexpectantly, you felt a finger hesitantly circle yours. You don’t look, knowing his cheeks would be red and he would be staring out the window, too. Instead, you smile yet again, relishing in the little touch.

Paparazzi flood the entrance of the hall; people of all sorts have come from every inch of the nation to witness some of Galar’s most talented trainers arriving for the annual Pokémon League Ball.

The Galar Castle is a light colour that you can’t quite put your finger on… the bricks have an astounding glossy finish that make them look like creamy opals glimmering in the sunlight. The pillars of the building are embellished with well-trimmed trees and vines that lace along the stone like ribbon. It’s all so breathtaking, especially with the last light of day polishing the exquisite exterior.

“I don’t understand why they’re all so excited,” Bede huffs suddenly, leaning over you to peer out the blackened window. It’s still wound up. Looking up at the gym leader, you smile. “It’s not like they’re going to be joining us. And it’s forecasted to rain later this evening, too… They’ll get wet.” Bede shakes his head. “It’s all too—oi, what’re you—?”

Your fingers find a stray strand of his fluffier hair, tucking the curl behind his ear. His gaze meets yours momentarily, faces inches from one another. In that moment, you’re bestowed with a rare innocence of the gym leader—the side that nobody sees. Nobody but you, of course. His eyes linger on yours momentarily, flickering down before he draws away.

“Idiot,” he mumbles, looking out the window. “Stop making it so obvious.”

You laugh quietly at his scolding.

He glares weakly, biting his lower lip.

Then he leaves the warmth of the car.

Bede holds the door for you as you, too, follow out of the car. You shiver slightly at the sudden drop in temperature, the flashing lights of hollering paparazzi making you feel uneasy—dizzy, almost. Hearing the door close with a thud, you look over at Bede who looks rather proud, amidst those flashing lights. There he stands in his element, smirking at the photographers that capture every angle of you both.

Looking away, you smile to yourself.

The pair of you ascend the regal staircase, the marble ornamented with deep red carpet. You’ve grown accustom to heels, surprisingly. You walk alongside Bede, the rose of your dress complimenting his white suit and baby pink undershirt. Neither of you answer questions that are thrown at you like kindling;

“Y/N! How is it being champion?”

“Bede, why is it Y/N that you’ve brought to the Galar Ball?”

“Y/N, Bede, are you two a couple now?”

Neither of you need the fire that would erupt if you were to answer the scandalous questions.

Two stone doors open with a low groan upon your arrival, and it’s not long before you’re both swept away inside the castle.

“Y/N!” A familiar voice cheers. Before you’re able to turn in the direction of the voice, you’re tackled into a bone crushing hug. “Mate, how’s it goin’? It’s been ages!” Hop is laughing into your ear, bending down to hug you.

“It’s good,” You laugh, hugging him back. Your eyes curl shut with a smile. “Everything’s really good, yeah.”

“Oh mate, that’s great.” He withdraws from the hug and meets a glowering Bede’s gaze. The smile fades, but he nods. “Bede.”

“Hop.”

Looking back to you, Hop grins. “You guys know Gloria, yeah?” Stepping aside, he presents to you a smaller girl (about your height) with chestnut brown hair that falls just below her jaw. Her smile matches the brightness of Hop’s. She waves and the two of you share a small laugh before embracing. “Yeah, well, we kinda…”

“Are dating? We know, you idiot. Anybody would be able to tell.” Bede interrupts, clearly vexed. “Now if you’ll excuse us.”  

Slender fingers curl around your elbow, drawing you away from your (now) two friends.

“Bede,” you chastise, brows knit together. “That was rude.”

“He was rude.”

“He was not!”

Bede huffs, before stopping abruptly—you almost trip from the sudden halt.

“Y/N!” A voice slurs before you’re tackled into yet another hug. “Maaaan! It’s been ages! You never come to Hammerlocke anymore!” You can practically hear Raihan pouting. And Bede clicking his tongue. “Oh, Bede! Hey, how’s it going?” Drawing away, Raihan keeps one arm around your shoulder and extends a hand to the fairy gym leader. Bede just looks away with a small hmph. “Still th’same old Bede, huh?” You laugh behind your hand when Raihan ruffles Bede’s curled hair, causing a few strands to stray.

“Stop it, you imbecile! Do you know how long it took for the stylist to get my hair right?” Bede’s smacking Raihan’s hands away as they try to mess the other’s hair more. “Stop it, you drunken fool! Ugh!”

“Rai,” You giggle, tugging on Raihan’s arm. “That’s enough. You’ll make him upset.”

“I’m not upset.”

He’s tugging again on your arm, watching you with an unreadable expression.

You glance back at Raihan and smile when he withdraws, holding his hands up defensively.

“Sorry, sorry, not used to all this young love stuff. Off y’go kids—”

“Y-Young love?!” Bede near on chokes, eyes wide. He’s no longer holding you anymore; in fact, he takes a quick step away from you both. “You’re absolutely deluded, you—you—” Unable to find the right words, the gym leader turns on his heels and storms off into the ocean of people that wash the dancefloor.

That’s when your shoulders slump

                       And Raihan bites his lip.

“Shit…” he mutters. “Y/N, I’m sorry I thought you two—”

“It’s fine,” You manage out, forcing a smile. “Common mistake. We’re… I don’t really know. It’s complicated, I suppose… but don’t tell anyone, okay?”

Raihan nods, sighing at your pleading gaze. ���Yeah, yeah… but Bede? Seriously? Totally did not see that one coming, Champ.”

A familiar warmth colours your cheeks and you look away shyly.

You part ways with Raihan after he’s snagged away by Leon (who greets you quickly, grinning as usual), Hop, and Gloria. Slowly you make your way around the party, feeling awfully lonely without Bede by your side. You almost feel anxious. In a party with this many people, you can’t help but worry about being alone. Crowds aren’t really your strong suit, after all.

You greet someone new every now and again, smiling and waving, indulging them in a bit of small talk before moving onto the next person… but it’s been almost an hour and still there is no sight of your fluffy haired lover. You wring your fingers together, squeezing them tightly. Was he really that mad about the idea of being together with you? You knew that prior to the blossoming of your relationship he had deemed himself better than you, always wanting to prove that by any means necessary… but you thought that perhaps now, perhaps after the time you had both spent together…

You shake your head at the thought, trying to rid your dejection as you make your way towards the dessert bar. You weren’t much of a drinker, and tonight you really didn’t feel like anything, so why not have a few sweets?

And have a few sweets you would’ve, if you weren’t snatched by the wrist and tugged away. You stumble a little at first, especially when the two of you quickly leave the ballroom out a door that was hidden by long, orange drapes.

“Bede?” You gasp, struggling to keep up with him. His silence is unnerving. It’s not like him to be so… quiet. “Bede, wait. Stop for a second, will you?”

Your words fall on deaf ears. The taller turns suddenly and yanks you into a darkened…closet? You go to say something, but when Bede turns around, his palms press hard against the door behind you, slamming it shut. Your eyes widen, body caged between the emotional gym leader and the cold, wooden door that presses against your back.

A weight on your shoulder surprises you, the tickling of blonde hair against your neck eliciting a small shudder.

“B…Bede?” Comes your soft voice, finally cutting the silence that encompasses you both.

“I hate it,” he suddenly whispers. “I hate it so fucking much… the way they all—they all dote over you.” His voice is low as he talks, the velvet tone making the hairs on your arms raise. He isn’t angry. No, he isn’t angry at all. He seems almost… vulnerable.

“They’re just my friends, Be…”

“I know they are,” he says again, sighing. “And that’s why I’m so frustrated.” Your small palms move up his back, slipping under his suit jacket to feel the tensing muscles of his shoulders. You rub slowly, gently, trying to ease the tensions… As you rub along the outline of his shoulders, he sighs again, relaxing slightly. “I’m sorry. I should be more composed than this, I’m a gym leader, for goodness sakes… but knowing how good you are—the gap between us…”

“Are you… concerned I’ll leave you for someone else…?”

Your question hangs in the air.

Bede never replies.

Tilting his head to the side, you feel his nose press into your neck. His breath is slow, and his hands soon fall away from the door to rest against the small of your back. His fingers trace feebly along the silk material.

“Pathetic, isn’t it? Standing here like this, with you.”

“It’s not pathetic…”

“The Great Bede, completely useless right now.”

“Bede,” You pull away and try to catch sight of his eyes, but all he does is nuzzle closer into you. You frown at an unfamiliar smell that trails from his mouth. “Bede, have you…?”

“That dastardly dragon gym leader… Said it would give me confidence, or something. As if I don’t have confidence.”

A small laugh leaves you as you ease your weight onto the door behind you, hand running up and through those unruly curls. He draws back slightly, pouting when he hears you laughing.

“Enough of that,” he murmurs quietly, forehead dropping against yours, noses bumping together clumsily. “Don’t laugh at me… Y/N, stop it!” Now he’s whining, voice discreet, careful not to draw attention to the little room he had slipped you both into.

“I’m sorry,” You giggle, hand falling against his warm cheek. Your eyes have finally adjusted to the light and now you can just see the faint discolouration of his cheeks. “You’re just too cute like this.”

“No,” he says quietly, leaning into your palm. Lavender eyes peer down into yours, the lack of light making them look uncharacteristically darker than usual. “It’s not me who’s cute…” His lips drag along yours as he speaks, voice low and sultry. It ignites the flutter in your chest once more. “You’re cute, Y/N…”

“Y-You’re drunk,” you say quickly, looking away. “You’d normally be embarrassed of saying—”

“So let me say them now.” His fingers meet your jaw, lightly tilting your head up once more. Gradually, his hand moves to your cheek where he rubs at the burning skin. “You’re so soft… yet so strong. No one can beat you. I’ve tried—over and over, and even though I keep losing, I’ll never give up; you’re the most impressive rival, Y/N…”

“Thank you for complimenting my battle techniques,” you jest, grinning teasingly up at the gym leader. It’s cute how red he goes—even the tips of his ears flush.

“Sh-Shut up! I’m… trying.” Taking a step back, Bede folds his arms over his chest, looking away.

It’s then that he turns

                 his back to you.

                           His shoulders look so heavy...

Taking a few tentative steps forward, you wrap your arms around his waist tightly, face pressing snug between his shoulder blades; you feel his chest stutter with surprise. His hands hesitantly rest over yours, and when they do, you feel him slot his fingers between yours.

“I wouldn’t do… those sorts of things with just anyone, you know…” you whisper quietly, voice mumbled by the rough material of his suit jacket. “You’re important to me, Bede. And I—really like you,” you mumble the final parts quietly, nuzzling closer into him.

His body is stiff as you talk, but his hands squeeze yours tenderly once you finish.

“…Me too.”

“Then why do you insist on hiding us?”

Again, the question is left dangling quietly in the cold air of the empty little broom cupboard.

“I just worry that it will…ruin your image. Being with me.”

“But I don’t—”

“I know you don’t care. You’re the most stupidly selfless woman I know… But I care. I care so much…about you.” The heavy sigh that heaves from Bede moves you, too. “It’s stupid and I hate it. I hate how you make me feel—the way you make me lose my impeccable composure. It’s frustrating. When we’re together I want to touch you—to reach out and take your hand, but I—I just can’t because… Ugh! That moronic dragon idiot was right. What courage do I even have? It’s pathetic. You should just leave.”

Bede drops your hand and folds his arms over his chest.

You watch quietly, trying to absorb everything—to take in it all…

And that’s when you kiss him.

With a firm pull to his arm, you turn the other around half-way, leaning up on the tips of your toes and sealing your lips against his. It’s not long before he completely turns to face you, hands moving to cradle both your cheeks. It’s slow at first. The kiss, that is. Bede holds you firmly against him as you continue to rest your hands at his slim waist.

The kiss is broken—

                       But only for a moment.

His lips ravish yours once more, starving to split the seam that keeps your mouth sealed. His tongue licks at yours slowly but desperately, his hands falling from your cheeks; one goes to your hip, the other resides at the back of your neck. He holds you so close, relishing in the feeling of your tongue caressing his; somewhere along the way he swallows your quiet moans, grip tightening on your hip.

The lip-lock lasts moments before your pulling back, panting, lungs aching for air.

“Be mine,” he mutters, mouth moving to your neck, kissing up the soft expanse. “Officially. I don’t want to be caught in this stupid limbo anymore. Or feeling jealous of your absolute donkeys-for-friend,” You make an audible “pffft!” at the elementary-school-level insult. That’s when you feel him smile into the patch of skin just below your ear. He kisses the spot again, softly—sweetly… “You’ll say yes, won’t you?”

“Do you really think I’d say no? Now you’re the idiot,” you giggle, turning your head to kiss his temple.

His chest stutters again as he chuckles.

“Yeah, maybe I’ll accept being the idiot this time, Champion.”

1. How do they fall asleep? Wake up? Any daily rituals?

IN EACH OTHER’S ARMS. No okay so they’re both night owls, but Gladion is the more disciplined of the two so he goes to bed first. Moon usually follows eventually, and she’ll turn off the lights and cuddles close to him but she doesn’t want to wake him- except he’s a light sleeper, so sometimes he’ll just roll over and hug her and THEN they fall asleep in each other’s arms. Gladion wakes up way easier than Moon because he actually has consistent working hours, so he’ll go and prep breakfast and everything and then after he that he checks on the Pokemon and once Silvally knows he’s awake, it bounds onto their bed and wakes poor Moon up. 

As far as daily rituals go, they eat breakfast together. Moon washes since Gladion cooked, and they always have a bit of banter and a small kiss before leaving for the day for their respective jobs. And when they come back home at night, the whole cycle begins again :D 

2. How’s their teamwork? Do they share well?

Surprisingly, they never really had that much trouble actually working together. Like sure, when they first met, they butt heads a lot since Gladion is all edgy lonerboy and Moon didn’t like how he just kept snapping and yelling at people. But when they worked together at Aether, they both realized the other could prioritize Lillie’s safety over their own pride, and they ended up trusting each other. After that they’ve had a bond of mutual respect for each other’s ability as a trainer, and that became the foundation they drew on to get closer to the other. They aren’t big sharers, but because they trust one another in a way that they so rarely do with others (except Hau, but Hau is the one they don’t want to depress from listening to their own troubles), they end up talking to each other a lot. Gladion’s probably one of the few people that Moon can talk to about Ultra Space, too, and because of her in-depth knowledge of what happened to his family, she’s one of the few people he can trust with his insecurities as well...  

3. Are they open about their relationship? How do they feel about public displays of affection?

They don’t hide it, certainly, but they’re both very conscious that neither of them really enjoy the spotlight, whether it’s around friends or from the prying eyes of reporters. So they don’t really do a lot of public displays of affection unless they’re really SUPER OVERWHELMED BY FEELINGS OF LOVE or something, but sometimes Gladion will reach for Moon’s hand when they’re walking together and the breeze is nice, or sometimes Moon will give him a little peck on the cheek when she’s proud of some amazing thing he said in a presentation/interview. 

4. First impression of each other? Was it love at first sight?

HAHAHA no. Gladion saw Moon as nothing more than a stepping stone to his path to strength, Moon saw him as a bully. (Also she was totally going to beat him to take the prize money)

8. What do the like best about their partner?

Gladion likes that Moon’s kind, and understanding, but she’d also give him shit if he did something wrong. Moon likes that Gladion’s always supportive and protective because as strong and capable as she is, it’s always nice to have someone to return to and keep you safe. 

12. Is there a wedding? What was the proposal like? Any kind of honeymoon?

They get married in the presence of Tapu Koko. There was lots of dancing, malasadas, and Lillie may have ended up hugging Olivia and they ended up bawling near the punch bowl. 

Gladion proposed in the same dumb way he always does- by challenging Moon to a battle. When Moon realized what he was up to, she laughed her ass off and then decided to reverse the proposal. After all, the victor is the one who claims the spoils. 

They honeymoon by taking a long journey through the wilds of Poni Island, enjoying the freedom and nature and the Pokemon they meet- after all, adventure runs in their blood, and was what brought them together in the first place. 

16. Do they keep secrets? Lie? Cheat?

Gladion is not good at being honest about his vulnerabilities, and likewise with Moon. So sure, they lie to each other about ‘being fine’, even though they know the other one knows they aren’t. Sometimes that leads to arguments and Gladion dramatically storming out, but eventually they calm down enough to talk to one another and as they begin to trust each other more and more, the secrets tend to stop. As far as cheating goes, maybe at the start they did question whether they were right for one another, but as they grow closer and learn more of the other/trust the other more, the idea of cheating is so farfetched because ultimately, they chose each other because they truly do love one another. 

23. How do they hug? Kiss? Tease? Flirt? Comfort?

Moon likes surprising Gladion with sudden hugs, while Gladion is the type to awkwardly put his arms around her shoulders and pull her close when she’s leaning against him. Their kisses range from anything from soft pecks to full on french kissing in the moonlight, and their relationship is defined by Moon’s constant teasing and flirting. Gladion started off being super conscious about it at first, but as his guard relaxed, he ends up being snarky in return, sometimes even surprising Moon with a sudden kiss. They draw comfort from each other’s presence, their weight against them, leaning against each other on a couch, by holding each other close when they sleep, and by seeing their smile every time they walk into a room.

1) a personality trait that most people wouldn’t know about you (if you feel comfortable with sharing of course!)?

I’m kinda self-defeating. I tend to think of the worst about what I do as default and have to ease eventually to the idea what I did turned out at least ok afterwards. It’s still a mindset I’m learning to work on, though it trickles in from time to time.

2) what are you most passionate about?

Creating.

|’Dc Broad answer, I know, but more specifically, I love a lot of creative hobbies, and it’s hard to narrow it down to any specific one since I love them in different moods and different reasons. Things like writing, drawing(/spriting), textile things like sewing or crocheting or origami... It’s easier to say I like the core theme of knowing you made something, and it exists because of you, and “you did this” kind of feeling.

3) what is your favorite flavor profile? (sweet, spicy, sour, umami, bitter, etc)

Sweet! Depending on the food and my mood, I also like sour and spicy things, but I tend to gravitate more to sweetness with less fussiness of how so.

4) favorite series/franchise (from any medium) and favorite character within that series/franchise?

Oh gerd, there’s a bit, but in a vague attempt to narrow it down that let’s face it, I know I’ll fail, UUUH...

Fire Emblem (particularly Fates and Heroes) - I love both of them for just how easy it is to generate ideas for. It’s funny because I realize it’s admittedly taking a lot of things that frustrate or disappoint or leave me hanging with either games that I end up liking the two most by virtue for how many ideas it paves way for in terms of headcanons or fanworks or the like. I do like things on their own merits as well, but I think the “I wish things could’ve been better/elaborated on, and therefore I will create things based on that!” side to it was what made me appreciate them more (probably not exactly for the best reasons, but! It’s a thing.) In terms of favorite characters, there’s a ton inside and out of just these two games, but I’ll give the honorable mention to Summer Takumi specifically, because the paralogue he (among others) was released in came at a critical point in my personal life that had some effects on me that, tl;dr, led to me commiting to making this blog, and making more art in public, and eventually writing fanfics in public too. 

Pokemon - Was basically my childhood and went a long way into starting the first spark of a lot of the kind of hobbies I end up growing up and obsessing over/enjoying. Things like giving me a massive interest in coding and programming along with glitches and unused beta elements, or how it’s where I got my start in art back when I was little and trying to figure out how to do pokemon fusion sprite edits. I’d probably say my favorite character is a tie between Missingno and Celebi (in case the former doesn’t really count), the former for just how varied it is and being the main part of why I love how game coding works while being a gateway to beta content interests, and the latter for sentimental reasons spanning all throughout the entire time I followed the fandom game-wise.

Animal Crossing - It got me through ups and downs, it made up a chunk of nostalgia since the first game up to New Leaf (no switch, so now New Horizons, oh wellz), and I had a lot of memories both fond and low-key terrifying otherwise all throughout. I got a lot of favorites among villagers and NPCs otherwise, but if I had to narrow it down to one each:

 I love Whitney for being the only snooty-type villager back when I played Wild World who was surprisingly kind to me (and I’m sad I no longer have the original cart and imagine she long since moved out anyways probably), and so she gave me an experience pretty similar to Ai’s own experience with Whitney in the movie.

NPC-wise, I’m going to go with Sable (it was a really tough choice!) for the fact that in every game, she was among the first instances you can get to know a villager so closely that she was willing to explain to you more and more of her character. Usually in many of the games, once her arch is finished, she no longer elaborates on her life and goes right back to talking generally, but if it wasn’t enough that it was among the first times you see how her demeanor changes from ignoring or staying quiet with you, to going out of her way to find things to chat with you, it was also the memories she explained once you start befriending her.

5) how have your closest family members and/or friend(s) impacted your life?

I consider friends more as family than my actual family (to put it vaguely and/or kindly, my actual family did few to no favors for me). My closest friends have picked me up when I fell (multiple, multiple times), and they were much of why I’m still here, doing what I can. I owe the world to them...

6) if you could be anything (any job, other person, type of animal or beast, literally anything aside from what you are now) what would it be?

A multi-billionaire Maybe someone who shapeshifts. The possibilities with that are endless.

7) favorite beverage?

Coffee. There’s quite a lot of drinks I really love, but coffee is the most easily accessible for me.

8) i know this is a generic one but favorite subject/class you’ve taken?

Arts & Crafts and Computers, give or take. Pity they’re usually the least important for grades and also the shortest class semesters of the year. 

9) early bird or night owl?

I’m heavily inclined to be a night owl, which is unfortunate, because I’m in a place constantly forcing me to be an early bird.

10) favorite meme?

I’m completely in love with memes of cat pictures where cats have expressions that are beyond words, yet represents big moods all the same. If I had to narrow it to one specific meme, however...

Hsjsj hmm,, having people tell/show me they're proud of me! It doesn't happen often so when someone tells me that I did a certain this nicely or that I should be proud about how thus thing turned out I always work on it more, hoping to make it better for the people who told me they like it. That's actually how I got so into drawing, I remember doing it as a child and my parents would always encourage it so I continued to draw and still do so now. Since I've been drawing for so long it's just a normal thing to show my mom them and I don't hear her say it a bunch anymore but that's why I work so hard in it!

Having people give me something they made! Like yea store bought stuff is nice ig but have you ever had your friends/family give you something they made?? It's great! I currently have 3 drawings from friends (two voltron characters, one cat), one coloring from my little sister (cat), and one drawing from my little cousin (a cat with wings), along with a painting my friend made (genderfluid pride flag with my nickname [cheeto] on it) on my wall; and I have a sign on my door made by my little sister (my name is misspelled but I don't mind I love it anyway)

Head pats! Like,,, they make me unusually happy,, usually if you give someone a head pat they'll either not react or give a small smile. But if you give me a head pat I'm like (*^ω^*) and you have just made my entire week. And if you like Pat my head and kinda leave your hand there I've been told I usually lean into your hand?? Like I don't even notice I do it I just do apparently

Just someone being like "this reminded me of you" it doesn't have to be a product or anything and if it is they don't have to buy it. Like just getting sent a picture with "this reminded me of you" is such a nice feeling. Like it can be a cool rock, or a weird shaped leaf, or an odd cloud, or a post, or a character from a movie/show/game/etc, or a meme, anything really!! I guess it's because it eases my worries about being forgotten easily a bit, it's just nice to know that I'm not being forgotten :)

Getting into something new! Well most of the time, sometimes I'll get annoyed bc when I get into a new thing 99.9% of the time it becomes a new hyperfixation and it's just a bother cause I can't like things normally I'm either obsessed or uninterested djjdnd ✋😔 but I enjoy getting into new things bc I often worry about there being things out there that I'd truly enjoy but never find so when I find a new thing I enjoy my mind is basically like haha one down ùwú also, if my siblings aren't into it that makes it even better!! Growing up with so many siblings you have to share almost everything and this includes interests. Which sucks bc I'm the quiet middle child so usually if another sibling is interested in what I am, they get more credit for it. For example; BTS is associated with my younger sister despite me listening to and enjoying them first, HTTYD is associated with my other younger sister despite me showing interest first, same thing with my younger brother and Pokemon, p!atd is associated with my older sister despite me listening to them first, video games are associated with my two older brothers not matter how much I enjoy them, BnHA is associated with my younger brother despite me being interested first and watching it more, etc. So finding things they aren't interested in is a breath of fresh air, that's another reason I love Deathnote so much! My two younger sisters don't handle violence well, my brother thinks it's too mainstream (*cough*says the one who listens to rappers purely bc everyone else does*cough*) and my older sister doesn't care about anime and my older brother just doesn't want to watch it, and my oldest brother has already seen it and doesn't care for it too much.
