How can you still ship Dinbo when shippers have been so disrespectful to Katee AND she said it wasn’t going to be romantic?

Hello! I'm going to put most of this answer under the cut because it contains a lot of fandom discourse for one fine Sunday afternoon. But I wanted to give your question a full answer so I can direct any future questions I may receive of a similar nature to this answer because honestly, I am not a blog that revolves around shipping and I really do not want to be one! But thank you for asking a question without being aggressive, I am more than happy to answer :)

TL;DR: I hope the disrespectful idiots step on a lot of Lego. As much as I may share a ship with them, they do not speak for me and I cannot control their behaviour. I certainly do not condone it. Also, I ship Dinbo because I personally enjoy the idea of it and as much as I respect an actor’s opinion on their character, I do not necessarily have to share it. An actor should never be harassed for an opinion, that crosses an awful lot of lines that should never be crossed. I hate that that happened just as much as you do.

Ultimately I believe in ship and let ship. I stand against harassing real life people over fiction and more than anything: always always ALWAYS treat others with kindness!

Firstly, want to start off this answer by saying that I absolutely love Katee, she’s great and she brought SO MUCH to the character of Bo. I am thrilled she was able to portray her in all her forms, we're so lucky. To make such a successful leap from animation to live action is testament to how talented she is as an actress and I feel like she deserves so much more praise than she gets. It’s sad because in all of her comment sections after Mando S3 there were endless disgusting 2% jokes after ONE tiny comment she made on a much longer podcast appearance where she shared much more interesting stories. I think that was maybe the same one as she spoke a little about Dinbo but tbh, I haven't actually watched it because I can't stand podcasts... they make me cringe 😭

Anyway, those basement-dwellers focused on borderline sexually harassing her because of how attractive she is to them, rather than appreciating her talent. That just… absolutely sucks for her. I feel terrible for her. It was so widespread too and lasted for months… really hard to watch, tbh. But as far as I’m aware, it wasn’t Dinbo shippers that were leaving those comments.

Now, that’s not to deny that Dinbo shippers have taken things too far at some point, I’m sure they have! It wouldn't be the first time shippers in a fandom have crossed a line and sadly, it won't be the last. But I personally didn’t see it because I try and stay out of fandom discourse as much as I can. I really only have the energy and appetite to interact with the chill, respectful people on my little corner of the internet. If I ever saw anything that disrespected her, I would 100% call it out.

However, I do know there was that one panel appearance where people booed her or something? Ngl, I never watched the clip because just hearing about it made me cringe too much… (wow I really have a low tolerance for these things). I think, though, that it is a case of entitled assholes being entitled assholes, regardless of what they ship. It isn't a ship that makes them behave that way, that's the excuse, but really it's their idiotic, selfish nature. I think it would be a shame, then, to tarnish entire groups of people who might be enjoying a ship in a perfectly respectful way with that same brush, I don’t think that helps keep fandom spaces kind places to be. Absolutely screw all the people who have been disrespectful to Katee, I don’t condone that AT ALL. But equally, I am not responsible for actions of everyone who happens to ship the same thing as I do.

As much as I admire Katee and she absolutely DOES NOT DESERVE ANY NEGATIVITY FROM FANS, she is an actor at the end of the day. An actor’s opinion on a character is exactly that... their opinion. They portray them as their personal interpretation of the character and how they’re directed to, of course. I'm not arrogant or deluded enough to believe I know more about Bo-Katan Kryze than the person who portrayed her. I don't at all think that, but I think I can still disagree with Katee's opinion because, y'know, I'm human and humans don't always agree on everything.

The great thing about media is that audience can come away with a totally different view of the same character. Once the work is out there in the world, it takes on a life of its own, for better or worse. Sometimes beyond what even the creator intended originally. It’s like, for example, after you finish reading a book and you discover that other readers interpreted the exact same words in a completely different way. Some of those opinions you might agree with or entertain, some you completely disagree with and wonder how the hell they can even think such a thing. A portion of such interpretations probably aren’t even what the author intended, like this golden piece of tumblr history: the curtains were fucking blue.

This kind of thing has happened to me with my own writing before! People thinking a plot will go in a completely different way to what I intended. It's always a strange feeling, but as long as you don’t berate the author/fellow readers with different opinions, I think it’s perfectly reasonable to draw your own conclusions about it. After all, art is meant to be interpreted in many different ways. That’s the beauty of engaging with and creating art, to me.

At the end of the day, we're all bony sacks of meat with our own individual lizard brains and it would be boring if we all thought the same! Of course I still respect Katee’s opinion. If she says she wasn’t playing Bo to have romantic feelings towards Din then I’m not going to say she’s lying or get frustrated at her! That’s genuinely how she played it. Equally, it won’t really change my opinion because I know what I, personally, believe I saw in their interactions! Katee is more than welcome to share her thoughts, I would never think that she should stay quiet because I disagree with what she said… but equally I don’t have to let her words stop me from shipping something I enjoy! Plus I don’t think any of the cast know how Mando will end. Maybe they have some general plot ideas set out but nothing is final yet.

Ultimately, I’m equally happy for Din to end up with Bo or another love interest, if it makes sense for his character and feels right for the story, as I am for it just to be him and Grogu. The love he has for Grogu will always be the most important thing in his life. Loving a child like that changes you as a person and I love that we got to see how he evolved into a much better man because of it. Not to be a simp or anything but he truly is the best man in the world and I love him so much my chest aches.

A final point: I think if we just took actors and creators’ words as gospel then fandom would ultimately become a much duller place to be. Speculation and shipping are FUN (when done respectfully, of course). There’s so long to wait between seasons that if I just watched Mando repeatedly and never considered a different way to view the story… I just think it would be boring for me, personally. Enjoy the show however you want, watch it and interpret it however you want...but equally I will do the same! If you don’t share my ships and headcanons then that’s totally fine, as long as we can both respect each other and not lose our humanity.

Like I’ve said before, I welcome ALL Din ships and headcanons for Din or indeed for any characters. We may disagree on some of them, but ultimately, I am not right and you are not wrong… we’re all just nerds on the internet. And I’ll always try to make my blog a friendly, welcoming place to be for anyone who stops by, I really take that vow to you and anyone reading this very seriously.

I hope that answers your question and you can see where I’m coming from. I'm glad to have said my piece and I think any future questions I get like this, I'll just direct to this answer because it really sums up how I feel.

I’ve just started gently reintroducing myself to The 100 after 7 years these last few weeks (rewatching for the first time since 2016 in fact!) and of course part of that involves checking out what the fandom’s up to since then. I’ve just started reading fic again and I’m really enjoying your Medusa AU so far!!! Combining one of my most nostalgic ships with my favourite Greek myth scratches an itch in my brain quite nicely and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds! Ngl I was talking to another clexa writer about how I've been nervous since Medusa is such a well known and loved myth. And the truth is the fandom has shrunk quite a bit, but that doesn't necessarily bother me. I understand, people move on and find new ships, and honestly I'm happy for them. I just personally haven't found anything that resonates with me like Clexa so I'm, whew, still here 🥴. And I find that the smaller fandom has its perks. It's just fun. This is a wonderful fandom, hands down the best I've ever been in. The pairing is timeless, the people are pretty damn great, and the talent is just unmatched. Ok so I just finished the episodes and by a cruel twist of fate I once again have to work in the morning so here’s my quick thoughts:

Calypso’s bday was clearly a pride celebration and I love that for them

I actually picked up on it surprisingly fast, like literally when Frenchie left the galley to go prepare for the party

Izzy’s voice is of course always tops, we knew Con could sing but man he really belted it this episode

Ned Low is a dick and deserved what he got

I now stan Hellcat Maggie

Not surprised murder turns Stede on, frankly it was smtg I was always expecting

While their previous two kisses have been sweet and romantic I was happy to see one with some passion

Izzy, Jim, and Wee John in drag mean everything to me

Poor Roach, he seemed to be enjoying his torture

Wish we’d seen whatever torture there was that “turned Izzy on” lol

Can confirm, people who play violin are assholes (source: I am a violinist) /jk

Ngl the episode felt a tiny bit rushed idk if that was just me

Ricky’s a dick and his speech immediately made me think of a gay priest who is denying himself and condemning homosexuality (for which specific priest, just take your pick there are a lot of them)

As much as I like Ed trying to encourage Stede not to “kill in cold blood” I think that ship has totally sailed on both their parts. Even if you don’t claim Stede’s killing of the Badmintons as “cold blood” he did totally set that ship of French aristocrats on fire

I like that the show’s acknowledging that jumping right into sex especially after trauma is not necessarily a good idea no matter how much some part of my shipper heart is like ugh why are they fighting again let them be happy

The second episode in particular Stede spends kind of acting like a dick and knowing Djenks and his team this is on purpose but it’s still unpleasant to watch

I feel like Stede’s fallen into the trap of now that he’s back with Ed he thinks everything is going to be fine and he’s turned Ed into this idealized figure again and is ignoring the actual things that Ed says

That being said, I do agree with him that Ed is being a coward by running off to become a fisherman as if he wasn’t a bloodthirsty pirate who still hasn’t made up for his actions to the crew.

Ed becoming a fisherman is clearly a “I was happy fishing for the first time in a long time I want to hold onto that feeling” decision

Essentially both Ed and Stede are running from their faults and pasts and I think they need to talk it out

Ed seems to be trying to say to Stede that he wants to have time to love himself before falling headlong into a relationship but he missed the mark a bit

Izzy briefly plays Lucius’ role in congratulating them on sleeping together and giving Stede advise

It fits him like an over large suit but I understand they needed a character to fill that role and Lucius has his own plotline now

I do think Izzy is being remarkably calm and that might not last, he’s probably bottling it up

Has the Jim/Olu/Archie polycule expanded to include Zheng? I’m so confused by it all. I don’t disapprove in any way I just feel like some of the relationships in that square are qpps and some are romantic and I can’t really nail down which is which

Hi! Thank you for the kind words and I'm glad to be helping to at least tempt you into this pit, and I wish I had better recs for you, but I've been turning this over in my head for the last couple of days and keep coming back to that I don't know that I would recommend most of the animated series or movies/TV series for DC. Even the best bets would be: - Young Justice 2010 cartoon, which is overall decent, but DickBabs doesn't happen until like season 3, I think? (And I think Dick dates Kory for awhile before that?) And they're a very minor part of the show, even the Batfam as a whole is only one aspect of the show, it's really a multi-fam kind of series. As long as you know that it will have some major differences in relationship and character dynamics (like Superboy in the show and Kon from the comics share certain aspects, but they are also vastly different and I'm not sure you'd recognize Kon as the same character), it's a fun show to watch overall! - Batman: The Animated Series 1992 + The New Batman Adventures 1997 was absolutely, incredibly groundbreaking at the time it came out, but that means it's 30 years old now and a lot of it is going to be incredibly dated compared to current stuff. I do still love it and the Dick/Babs episodes are TOP NOTCH (so much delicious yearning oh my god) and the flashback to when Dick was a kid are also great, but there's a LOT of basic cartoon action stuff that's not that exciting anymore and it might feel like a long haul. Cautiously recommended if you don't mind viewing it through an old-fashioned lens, don't mind that Dick tends to be more in his "angry teenage years" than his more settled 20s, and you're okay with zipping through any parts that bore you. - The Batman 2004 is another series that's pretty dated, but in a way I find deeply charming, because it really leaned into the gothic aesthetic and wasn't afraid to try some new things with the character designs. I usually suggest skipping forward to season 4 when Dick shows up (and I greatly enjoy his and Babs' dynamic, they're kids at the time, it's not a romance here, but it's not hard to see that one day they could grow up into the characters they'll be in other versions) but the whole show is just a good Batman cartoon! Honorable mentions: - Justice League: The Animated Series 2001 which I don't think Dick or Babs ever appeared in, but is still probably THE best DC animated series. It's not super complex, but what it did, it did very well, and is still pretty influential to this day. - If you don't mind reading an online comic, the Wayne Family Adventures webtoon is a very easy intro point, has very pretty art, and will get you reasonably familiar with the characters! (I sort of liken it to LEGO adaptations, it's meant to be light-hearted and occasionally genuinely touching, it focuses on extremes of the characters and memeable moments, rather than the more sharp-edged comics, but that makes it all the better for an entry point imo.) Beyond that, I can't really think of anything I would necessarily recommend to help get new fans into the Batfam characters (I wouldn't recommend the Harley Quinn show as a starting place for them, nor the Teen Titans cartoon, and I don't really personally care for any of the animated movies personally, other than maybe Super Sons, which was absolutely adorable and a great intro to Jon and Damian), because DC has a really weird track record on adapting them into non-comics mediums and I just enjoy the comics so much more. Though, if others have recs or would offer a rebuttal against some of the suggestions, feel free, because I would love to have easier ways into the comics

West end- love this girl!! Her energy was over the moon and was def one of the standouts of the WE for me, in fact west end Veruca is def one of my favorite portrayals of her, just below 05. West End does a great job of making her incredibly cartoonish and ridiculous while also feeling real in a way. When I tell you she had stage PRESENCE.

Broadway- ngl, also love her a lot. Again, she had fantastic energy, and unlike a good amount of ppl I actually do enjoy the take of her being Russian. It kinda works? Idk. My one quip about her for the Broadway was just that the whole Russian thing wasn’t executed the best necessarily, although it had potential (also not a fan of the whole demise situation but that’s for another time)

2. This applies to both characters and I will say, I also don’t rlly ship veruca (or any of the gtws) with anybody, however I do not mind the ship Viruca too much, even though I don’t ship it personally.

3. Non romantic otp is prob Violet. Despite their little frenimies thing they have going on, I would genuinely love to see them as actual friends together.

4. unpopular opinion about this character is that uhhh I dont think her being played by an adult in the bway was the worst decision. And this applies to the other bratty gtws as well. Theres like child labor laws surrounding that shit and going on tour can be very hard for children and stuff with all that travel.

5. this also applies to the other bratty gtws, but I would love to see a veruca redemption arc in the canon but yk we can’t all be winners.

i think that's totally fair, and a valid reason to not participate in / engage with these ships. but that being said, i think that's more an opinion of personal taste than it is an overall rule. for a few reasons.

my first is that - well, this is rpf. emphasis on the f - on fiction. i'm not actually endorsing a real-life relationship between two smosh members. and i have enough faith in my mutuals to know they're not, either. this is all for silly goofs. i'm not saying fiction can't be harmful or impactful to real life bc it can but like. an 8 year age gap is measly compared to some of the stuff i've read im ngl. (ex-supernatural-romance-fanatic over here thank you very much)

second, i don't personally think age gaps are inherently bad. don't get me wrong - i think they CAN be. like, oh my god, if trevor was 19, 18, i would be with you calling the cops and battening down the hatches. a 19-year-old and a 27-year-old are at VASTLY different stages of their life. but he's 24. he's a grown adult who pays his taxes. he and i are basically the same age, and i think i can differentiate between who is a good person to spend my time with and who isn't. there's no malicious power difference here - you could maybe make an argument that he's got a different job title than these people but at that point, you could make that argument for most smosh dynamics. i think an age gap can be toxic, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is, and there's nothing to suggest that in this instance.

anyway, moral of the story - i think that's a valid opinion. i have some smosh ships i don't enjoy for one reason or another myself, but, like, people are gonna do what they do. i have recently remembered the tumblr content filter and it has VASTLY improved my smoshblr experience. 10/10 would recommend.

I’m so here for all this book hate, and I’m just laying in bed kicking my feet besides you listening to all these people rant. And I so agree with the ‘this book is gay’ thing. Like ESPECIALLY now during pride month everyone is like read these 5 queer books and the only thing it says is oh this mc is bi, oh it has a trans character, oh the main ship is sapphic. I’m like okay, cool, what more? Is that it?

I had this with ‘the priory of the orange tree’ which I loved, but the only thing I was told is ‘there’s a sapphic ship’ and ‘it’s high fantasy’ which yeah it is to both. But that’s not even what the book is about and you could’ve just told me what it was about and told these other things. just imagine if they would do that with other big fantasy books ‘yeah it’s fantasy and straight, enjoy’

Same thing with they both die at the end. Fun book, not revolutionary, I agree what the person said, the mcs are the most boring in the book. But it’s gay so it’s amazing… sure

and i do think it happens particularly often with queer books but also i don't think it's entirely devoid from straight books either lol it's just that instead of going "it's straight and fantasy!" they'll go "dark love interest and fantasy" or some equally surface level label lol. same with the lists that are like "dark academia books" etc i think...i mean i don't necessarily know that this is a new phenomenon but maybe it's just become more visible/common 2 me bc of the shifting landscape of social media that prioritizes shortform algorithmic content but it feels like this widespread practice of packaging books as aesthetic products more than like. literature. if that makes sense...idk still parsing through my thoughts on this but. yeah just feels like a very surface level way to engage w books--and the thing is it seems like it's a growing way that writers/publishers are marketing their books as well. like i don't really fault the authors for this bc ik in this day and age they have to do a ton of legwork to market their own shit to get it like picked up by publishers or whatever and so they kinda have to play the game (<- try desperately to go viral on tiktok) but every time i see a video that's like a writer going "would you read THIS??" and then it's like. a list of their protagonist's identities and then just a general/vague nod to some subgenre that sounds like a pinterest board title i throw up in my mouth a little ngl. and it's not like i think literature is some sort of Higher Art Form that must always be Venerated it's more that consumerism feels so fucking inescapable and every art form has to be boiled down into something that will go viral on tiktok these days and it makes me want 2 scream!!

I was wondering if Sam and Abigail might such a little bit in Stain! Specifically, I was thinking about why Harvey might be so worried about Alex working for Sebastian. I think all four (Harvey, Sebastian, Abigail, and Sam) go to saloon on Fridays and was thinking that Harvey might have already heard them making fun of Alex's job with the shipping bins or living with his grandparents after Sebastian first got back to town. I could be totally off, but it just occurred to me (and was shown in the snippets/previews) that there are a lot of convos about Alex happening that we aren't overhearing. But someone like Harvey might be.

Oh yeah, the reason Haley's calling Alex in the first place is because she heard about Alex's change of job from Jodi, and you know that Jodi heard it from Sam, and that Sam absolutely didn't say flattering things about the situation at all.

We're definitely going to be learning that there are a lot of asshole gossips in the town, and Alex is sheltered from almost all of it because he never visits the saloon. What he knows is filtered through Haley's and Harvey's concern, and Alex's assumption that people are gossiping about him because he's known that all his life - people talked about him and his family behind his back while growing up, and he wants no part in it.

I don't know that Harvey has necessarily overheard that much, I think he can pick up enough through just watching Alex with his grandparents in the end of their lives, and realising how much he genuinely cares and how hard he works/worked for them to make their lives better, and then he can sort of compare that to the image that the town has given to him re: Alex and be like 'oh. oh no.' That, combined with Sebastian returning, compounded all of it I think? I like to imagine that Harvey doesn't actually do much at the saloon except talk to Gus and tell himself that one glass of wine isn't unhealthy, it isn't unhealthy, no Harvey it's okay you can have one glass of wine you can even have two you're not like Pam it's okay.

Sebastian's never loved gossip, but he's definitely involved and around a lot of it, and I don't think he realises how much it's influenced him in the past and still influences him now. I think he'd resent it if he knew, because he's also been poorly affected by gossip in the town.

He's still got this view that many teenagers develop which is like, 'oh gossip is bad but what me and my friends do is fine, it's not like what everyone else is doing in my age group' and now he's an adult and he still holds that perspective. And, ngl, Sam and Abigail can be pretty judgemental and disparaging of other townsfolk when they get together and hang out with Sebastian, because Sebastian's 'fuck the town' attitude enables them into some of their worst behaviours and attitudes about individuals in the town.

I really like the way small town attitudes happen and how they play off the people in the town. It's so easy to get fixed in certain ways of seeing other people, and I'm looking forward to how that will play out.

And, not gonna lie, I'm really really interested to see if/when Sebastian will come to Alex's defence.

What splatoon ships do you ship? Like any rare pairs?

I don't have that many ships, though I've grown to like 4×8 (aka Agent 32), because that just makes sense to me since they've been hinted to be roommates, and it's a mainly trauma-free/healing context so it's pretty cute ;

I also enjoy Pearlina (because of course) 'cause even if Nintendo won't tell it out loud because some countries are wussies, they've been hinted gay AF officially (also lots of parallels between Agent 32 ngl, btw I headcanon that 4 is a big fan of Pearl, while 8 is idolizing Marina) ;

These days, just F1 RPF. I used to write for other fandoms (the other published fics on my AO3 are for The Arcana, if any of y’all know that lol)

Honestly, none of them. I’m a sucker for a happy ending, so I will be tying up all loose ends to finish my fics. Maybe I’ll say Enchanted (Lando’s Version) purely because it doesn’t really have an ending - just a “perhaps”.

I guess fallingforyou. I think it ends on a fairly hopeful note.

8. Do you get hate on your fics?

Not so far! I don’t think I have enough of an audience to generate hate comments, so I’m grateful for that lol

I do! Not necessarily very well, mind. It’s not often very dirty, more romantic smut. Is that a thing? It is now.

Openings. Like, first lines. I can introduce a scene like nobody’s business. Just don’t ask me to finish it.

Pacing. I desperately want to just get to the point, which makes my fics feel rushed. Pls help me fix this.

Besties i don’t even write well in English 💀 I feel like a lot of the time, it serves no great purpose. Especially if it’s randomly inserted google translate phrases that nobody speaking that language would ever actually use.

idia/chenya: listen. come on. this is... this is a no brainer. seriously though i do love the potential here, and not just because he's a cat. chenya, at least how i write him anyway- is so whimsical and quirky. he isn't necessarily extroverted, but he isn't a big introvert either. like, he is genuinely a cat through and through. not a beast man, not a fae-- something else. i love the idea of idia having sb who doesn't push him to go way outside his comfort zone-- but wont let him just shut himself off from the rest of the world for too long. dunno. at least with my take on him, this one is a fave.

riddle/chenya: so i could really see these two going p much any direction. i love the two of them just... interacting, regardless of the relationship. chenya has known riddle since they were kids. and a bit like trey, i like to think he knows how to push riddle without him blowing up. there is also the added factor that chenya definitely knows at least in some way, what riddle's home life is like. it's the sort of thing that would make their potential bond that much better. i could rlly go in depth on it but then i'd be here making an entire meta on it lmao.

jade/chenya: funny enough. i think jade and chenya might click really well in long term, more than you'd expect. and yeah, i could see this developing from friends, to more given the appropriate amount of time. chenya would be sooo fascinated by how weird and how deeply fucked up jade actually is. and jade likewise would be really intrigued by chenya's strange and uncanny nature... good stuff.

okay this is gonna be a long one buckle up

1 - they were in a show called que talento! (yes with an exclamation point) and they were basically playing themselves if they went to high school and were still amateurs lol i really liked the theme song but only the show version bc the studio version sounds awful sorry bruno i know you produced it but it sucks

2 - out of the core four (and ben) i have to say uma is a huge fav for me, probably my 3rd favorite character of the franchise. when i heard china anne mcclain was back on disney channel to play her i was sooooo excited and i can't imagine anyone better for the role. i love that she has such a strong sense of justice and community even if her ways aren't necessarily the best. obviously i love that the franchise makes sure to let us know she and mal are two sides of the same coin and if they weren't both so proud and stubborn they'd be friends, but i like that uma isn't just a carbon copy of mal like they're very much two different characters. uma is driven by collectiveness and she cares so hard about everybody it's almost aggressive and she's such a great example of leadership on the isle (as acknowledged by both ben in d2 and mal in d3 (and as a side note i'm obsessed with mal, ben and uma's dynamic and i could ramble on about it for the next 10 years but that's not the point)) and if i don't stop now this is gonna turn into a mal vs uma analysis

3 - i really really love the idea that mal and uma are exes. like to me that's just canon and no one is gonna tell me otherwise bc it doesn't contradict anything! "and how would you know, mal? you've never had [a boyfriend]" so in my head she could have dated uma idc it was probably quick and messy bc they would have this toxic power struggle which ultimately ends in mal not letting her join the gang. i think they would absolutely kill each other as a couple now bc of how similar they are but as exes? hell yeah that's a vibe

as for present day relationships i'm a fan of harry and uma getting together at some point in the future bc lbr those two are in a weird situationship lmao i also love jay and gil!!! very unexpected but jay realizing how jaded he's become after seeing the beauty of gil experiencing things with such wonder and then deciding to do a gap year so they can travel the world together is something that can actually be so personal

4 - oooo so rise of red. here's the thing. i'm fully expecting this movie to be bad sdjdshjdjhsjdh i'm mostly worried about these seemingly amateur writers they got. like. even if descendants is its own little fanfiction thing let's at least try to make things coherent inside its own universe. the fact that they all went to school together defeats the purpose of beast UNITING THE KINGDOMS but well anyway let's see what they're gonna do

i like jennifer phang as a director though! she did two eps of cloak and dagger (one of which is 2x01, one of my personal favs) and the pilot of secrets of sulphur springs, so i know she's competent. and mark hofeling is coming back which is GREAT bc changing the production designer would be a terrible move for a spin-off partly set in present day. i just wish kara saun would come back to do the costumes but oh well

It might just be me but, while I understand a lot of people enjoy ‘fanon’ for a reason, I think when it’s pushed down people’s throats it’s very annoying and borderline delusional

I know it’s an old discussion that will never be resolved but for example: gender of a character

‘To me this character is xyz’ — like ok. But I still find it strange when it’s prefaced like that because the author/creator wrote a woman or man, or whatever. And people like to say they’re something else.

Obviously for fan fiction or HCs that’s totally fine that’s why these things exist. But to say it like it’s a fact that character A is gay when they’re not, and character A is clearly a woman (or man or whatever human) as the creator made them—I just. It’s annoying and it feels disrespectful to the author who made this character in the first place

Listen, as an example, Renee and Allison from aftg are straight. But a lot of fans ship them as a lesbian couple. And it’s whatever. But then someone starts attacking other fans for simply enjoying and saying what’s actually canon and not every damn character has to be queer just to satisfy the audience.

This rant came out of nowhere I just thought of this blog as it’s always discussing so many character thoughts and meta and I 💀

well we love to discussing character thoughts and meta on on this blog for sure!! i see your point, but i think fanon is unavoidable and the best thing i found to kind of not get riled by discussion like this is just disengage from fandom at large and focusing on groups of people who share your interpretation of a media or are chill about their headcanons.

you already brought up aftg and ngl i tend to struggle a lot with some fanon aspects while embracing others. it’s really just a matter of curating your experience. i think with aftg in particular canon is super lose if you don’t include the extra content (because it’s not directly tied to the books like in an addendum or anything). sooo if you look at it like this, technically renee and allison aren’t canonical straight or queer. in canon, their sexualities remain undefined which is probably why a lot of the fandom headcanons them as queer. so canon basically says nothing about that topic.… so who is right now? you see what i mean?? sooo much room for different fanons that all aren’t really canon. ofc you can take nora’s extra content into account, but i don’t think what’s outside of the book has to count for the canon text. it can if you want, but it doesn’t have to??? does that makes sense?? i also don’t think fanon is necessarily disrespectful to the author and their vision, but in extreme casea it might be… and some authors might be bothered while others couldn’t care less. but i think when you create something and put it out into the world people will always interact with it in a way that might sometimes be removed from that original vision.

it’s really just kind of on you to remove yourself from that if you don’t vibe with it. fanon will always be there one way or another…. you do you and find the people who do as you do and you’ll forget some fanon stuff even exist.

i think it’s the third entry of the tides series, ornery, scandalous & evil. ngl pretty much all i had in mind was that i wanted it to be angsty and cram together as much characters as possible. i think it worked lmao. it also helped to set background on said characters too — like helaena and her kids, daeron and daemon. and the arrival of the very expected lucemond baby which was kinda ruined by luke. oopsie

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

weirdly enough, i think the grace of a rotting corpse is the happiest one. of course circumstances aren’t looking good, but both luke and aemond are tucked away in their happy little moments (which are kind of gross), and as long as alicent doesn’t know, they’ll be fine.

lol the first time i posted omega aemond i got flooded with weird comments that suggested i was somehow disrespecting omega luke (??? 💀) but after that, everything was fiiiiiine.

i do, the freaky kind— mostly because i like building up ‘intense’ scenes that end up in smut one way or another lol. the smut itself is just smut, but i enjoy the gymnastics around it.

What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

oof. born from delicate violence maybe? listen, that fic was my baby. i loved it and i loved writing it last year, but as weeks went by i got into some bad thoughts and realized that this fic was written at an specific time of my life that i didn’t necessarily want to remember, and between the things to remember, was the inspiration for this fic. i still like it and i do think i still have the original doc for the finale, so perhaps i’ll post it one day, but i feel like posting an ending that’s not even properly edited just for closure will not make me feel right. i also don’t want to post anything that i consider lackluster, since i know a lot of people followed the story last year.

besides that, i had this lucemond thingy in the docs that was very angsty, during the dance era and all. i wrote an entire summary and started the first chapter. i finished and then i just didn’t like the idea anymore, so i left it there.

What are your writing strengths?

not sure about this one. i’d like to think dialogue, or maybe to set a scene. i’m very passionate about setting scenes lmao

definitely typos. also, i finish writing something, i read it a couple of times more to ‘edit’ then post it, so i feel like i don’t spend much time actually editing it ?? hopefully that makes sense. i don’t know how to write fluff without making myself cringe either, so it’s a constant battle

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

in fics that are not mine? i love it. for example, in hotd fics we see a lot of high valyrian stuff and i love when other authors use it as a creative resource. if translations are not available on the fic itself, sometimes i look up the word, sometimes just go with the context of the fic instead. the same with other languages; i don’t have a problem with it. now, writing it for my own fic is a whole different story. i don’t have the patience to add high valyrian in my fics, i prefer to dodge it or just refer to it instead lol. besides english i speak spanish, and if i feel a fic needs dialogue in another language, i’d choose spanish right away instead of trying to use a translator and butchering the poor language.

so far, my absolute favorite is mean bad dog. i love aemond’s clinginess and instability. i love luke’s moral dilemmas and how he tries to fix it all in his head. yum

oh man I love how we're passing the collective braincell around with Saren/Macen here. Ok so: Saren's getting fucked and he's getting therapy, no those things aren't necessarily in order or separately as items on Maceys to-do list. It starts like this: Macen brings cookies to work whilst on guard duty. Saren, permanently hungry, is there to hand in a report in person and oh whoops what's this why is one of the guards offering him food whilst he waits? Since when did these people exist as more than shiny set dressing excuse me???? Is that allowed?? Only the cookies are good and, well, Macen's genuinely impressed concerned at how quickly the box gets inhaled and asks if he wants to come by for dinner some time because CLEARLY this man simply just doesn't eat enough and hey he hates cooking for one so that works out even better. Ah, except, Saren assumes that (now he's registered this guy exists) that hey he ain't bad looking and he's very polite and shiny in a nice way and he assumes that Macen's suggesting a one-night-stand but also, he's hot and he's close at hand and has the potential to be a nice occasional booty call and most crucially, sounds like he might be willing to bake him some more cookies. Wildly different expectations going into that evening but y'know what, around dissecting why Saren's primary assumption was that the interaction was purely transactional in intent and the fact that he gets guilted into helping with the washing up, it sure wasn't a bad experience. Saren swears for a long time that he's only in it for the food and the sex, Macen enjoys his company once he's gotten past the prickly exoskeleton (and the challenge of taking him apart a little more every time is too good to resist) and before the pair of them really know what they're doing, well shit he's become Saren's first port of call when he gets back to the Citadel with some time off and Macen might keep cookie dough ready to bake in the freezer in case he turns up unannounced at 3am covered in blood to demand snuggles. TL;DR: Get domesticated Saren you fucking edgelord wannabe you are not immune to a handsome man with who can cook and fuck. Now, for the shepiverse of madness: One thing I think we can ABSOLUTELY say for sure is that Garrus is getting pegged. At length. On both sides of the swap. I do think that trouble's Garrus is having one HELL of a time with Jane and he's gonna be real fucking lucky if he comes away without at least one new kink and aches in places he wasn't aware existed. Also he's getting gagged. That's almost obligatory bc oh man that boy does not know how to shut up to save his life. The only question which remains is how fast this shitty little twink realises that he likes pushing her buttons, even when it nearly gets his head blown off. Ride-or-die this boy is and oh whoops, she is SUCH a terrible influence you know he's head over heels in an instant. Very much the "I could make him worse" to Trouble Shep's "I'll make him better". 10/10 dynamic. On the other hand, I suspect dear little trouble is an awful lot softer than what helix garrus and zaeed are used to - a LOT less of a wild animal. Sure she's bossy but she's got this very gentle "make these people want to please me" sort of attitude that is unbelievably frustrating bc she straight-up refuses to get angry beyond telling people to quit-it when they piss her off. Ngl I think Zaeed would be a hard sell at first bc she has absolutely no interest in picking a fight but roping him in to hep fuck Garrus would definitely do it. Would it work out long term? Doubtful. But they're sure as hell gonna have fun along the way.
