My Updated Skincare Routine
Tumblr media
You might have read my previous post about my skincare routine. Since I’ve been discovering and trying out new products for my skin lately, let me get you into details of those new products I’ve incorporated into my old routine.
Let’s start with the usual:
Tumblr media
My AM and PM facial foam because my skin reacted well with this facial wash. I’ve started using this COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser last June and I must say that this one’s doing a good deal to my skin. I’m actually looking for an alternative like the one with a scrub and I’m eyeing Innisfree’s Jeju Volcanic Pore Scrub Foam. Not decided yet, tho.
Next would be the toners or beauty water:
Tumblr media
Yes, I’ve added Innisfree’s Jeju Volcanic Pore Toner and it’s almost half now. This one smells so good and it says to tighten pores which I think is true. This one’s a daily pore treatment toner made with Jeju volcanic scoria to remove excess sebum according to its description. You also have to shake this one well before using because it contains mineral powder inside.
Of course, my ultimate favorite Beauty Water from Son & Park. This one’s a travel size and can be carried easily anywhere. Why I love this one? It’s because this one refreshes my skin well and it doesn’t contain any alcohol and smells so good as well.
I never had any breakout with these two so it goes to show that I am using the right products.
Next stop, my essence, and power liquid:
Tumblr media
I’ve said in my last skincare post that I am yet to try this COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. I’ve been using this one for three months now and the BHA Blackhead Power Liquid for two months. My skin is so prone to blackheads but the power liquid did a big change on my T-Zone and chin part. I’ve got fewer blackheads on those parts and with the help of the essence, my skin feels firm and smooth. These two are such great skin game players! I’ve tried the AHA Whitehead Power Liquid but I got breakouts so I stopped. I would highly recommend these two: one for a younger looking skin and the other for a zero blackhead skin.
Let’s jump into my serum:
Tumblr media
Okay, this one’s a new favorite because I’ve just added this to my routine one month ago. Dear Klair’s Pure Vitamin C Serum has a very good effect on my skin. One time, a friend kept on staring at my face and noticed that there’s a certain glow on my cheeks. Yaay! By that time, I’m on my second week with this product. A very visible effect in just two weeks. What’s good about Vitamin C Serum? a) keeps skin looking younger b) reduces skin discoloration c) creates brighter, healthier skin d) promotes collagen production and so on. It has a lot of good benefits to the skin but you should be aware that our skin can also be extra sensitive when using it so be sure to use a sunscreen daily. I super love this one! Yaay! By that time, I’m on my second week with this product. A very visible effect in just two weeks. It has a lot of good benefits to the skin but you should be aware that our skin can also be extra sensitive when using it so be sure to use a sunscreen daily. I super love this one!
Moisturizers? Yes.
Tumblr media
Now, I’m still loyal to my St. Ives Timeless Skin Moisturizer it’s just that, I was given a free sample of Innisfree Green Tea Seed Deep Cream and after using it for two days, I’ve noticed some positive changes on my skin. It has a matte finish and moisturizes my skin pretty well. I love the smell too! That’s why samples are really helpful when it comes to trial and error with products. This doesn’t have any sticky feeling on the skin but you have to wait for a moment till the skin absorbs it well. I still use St. Ives after a noon bath because I just want to still make use of it.
Night Mask and Eye Cream:
Tumblr media
I love the effect of Mizon’s Good Night White Sleeping Mask but I might switch to COSRX Overnight Honey Mask. I’ve tried few samples of it and it worked well. Waking up feeling and looking so moisturized and my skin looks so fresh and clear in the morning. The eye cream, I’ve noticed some fine lines under my eyes and forehead was tamed! It may take a while to see the result but this eye cream was worth it.
Tumblr media
Sure I would never get tired of using this COSRX One Step Pimple Clear Pad especially when I get breakouts due to trying out samples. This will be my holy grail for unwanted pimples sprouting occasionally on my face.
Tumblr media
My ever favorite sunscreen! Will forever repurchase this one but I would also like to try Missha’s All Around Safe Block Sebum Zero Sun SPF 50 because well, cute packaging! haha! Can’t finish the routine without this one!
Exfoliators:
Tumblr media
So here are my exfoliators! I usually exfoliate every Wednesday and Sunday, yep twice a week would be enough for my skin. You may do it three times a week depending on your skin type. How do I manage to use all of them? Depends on what my skin needs at the moment. Like when I feel like my skin is so dry, I will use Skinfood Black Sugar Mask Wash Off or the Rice Mask. When I feel so oily and dirty, I use Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask and when I feel like I needed some peeling, I use Daiso Japan’s Natural Peel-Off Mask. My ultimate favorite for an all around exfoliation would be Neogen’s Bio-Peel Lemon!
It does wonder to my skin plus the smell of real lemon. It has two sides; the rough one for getting rid of dead skin and the soft side for the final touch. I would like try the Wine one next.
Extra! Extra!
Tumblr media
Definitely, a nose pack would be a must for me. Since my skin is prone to whiteheads and blackheads, this Etude House Greentea Nose Pack is my go-to! My nose is so hiyang with this one and the one from Black Kill 3-step nose pack which was very hard to find.
MASK! MASK! MASK!
Tumblr media
You cannot complete the 10 step without using a mask. These two are my forever favorite! I can just settle with these two especially the one with the shea butter. Why? Because it can give me instant blush-on and clear finish! The pearl does the brightening and moisturizing but the shea butter can help you go on your day without even putting any BB Cream or foundation. Not to be OA but that’s how it works for me.
Tumblr media
So here are the junks sitting on my skincare corner giving my skin the TLC that it needs and made me broke! haha! But it was worth it. I’m glad I switched from having a water-only facial wash routine to 10-step Korean skincare routine. I’ll probably never get tired of applying and using these products and will surely try more! I noticed that I still have a lot of issues that I need to take care of when it comes to my skin. Next thing on my list is The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2%. Why? Because I heard that a) it boost production of collagen, keeping skin firm. b) fighting the free radicals that can cause wrinkles. c) helps gets rid of wrinkles and dark spots.
I’m turning 30 next month so guys, TUMATANDA NA KO! haha and so as my skin. That’s why I have to continue finding another formula for a healthier and better-looking skin. So, andami diba? Nakakatamad especially when you’re having a rough day, but note that it’s sanayan lang! andami diba? Nakakatamad especially when you’re having a rough day, but note that it’s sanayan lang!
Tumblr media
NOTE: I have a sensitive to oily skin and these products worked well on me. You should know your skin type first before making your own routine or trying out new products. Thank you for reading!
Tumblr media
Left: The usual Sunday after exfoliation face Right: The good morning face! Yung eyebags ko inborn na, forever na kaming magsasama nyan. haha!

September 18, 2018 4:53 pm
wow since it’s been a few days since an update, I had a lot of things to open this entry with, but of course only one topic can be the first i talk about. so, the most recent one: I was just laying in bed thinking about how I need to study for my bio exam tomorrow and also complete the next two modules for econ, but then I realized it’s tuesday and econ hw is due monday nights, and freaked out. I literally went through all five stages of grief, before I was like “it’s okay, it’s only the homework, the exam will pull my grade up” and opened my laptop to start reading for bio. but then I checked econ and apparently because there’s an exam this week, there wasn’t any homework due so HOLLA.
so this past weekend has been annoying, as always. I was at ioa for friday, but we only had three workers total (we normally have 6) for closing, so it was hell trying to close on time. and then saturday I went to usf, which is always hell. not to mention, hhn started so we had to spend an hour cleaning so the night crew would be set. and at the end of my shift, the usf manager has the nerve to say to me that she wants me to pick up some shifts this week. I tell her that I have four exams, and I’ll have to check my schedule, but she says “oh but your availability says you’re free after 4 on tuesdays, thursdays, and fridays” what the fuck!!!!!! don’t go looking at my availability when I’m not your employee!!!!!!! so I kept saying I had to study, I had to see, two of my exams are online, etc and she kept pushing for me to at least take shifts on friday afternoon and saturday, since I should be done with exams by then. I took the saturday shift because by this point my shift ended a minute ago and I wanted to leave, and told her I’d call her to let her know if I can take friday (I won’t.) SO SUNDAY I walk in to ioa (home sweet home), and we have a new coworker!!! And by new I mean he used to work at usf but transferred here permanently. What. “Oh jay we send you to usf because they’re understaffed and we’re overstaffed.” Okay. So I tell my manager that they’re stupid for accepting MORE workers when we have that issue, and she has the audacity to say to my face “oh it’s more than that, he didn’t like it at usf” as if I haven’t spent the last two months telling both ioa and usf managers that I hate usf. Okay. So Sunday, when I next work at ioa, I’m going to speak to my highest manager and tell her that she either tells the scheduler that I am not to work at usf again, or I quit. I have enough money in my savings account to last me a while.
wow. rose deadass drank 6 apple juice boxes out of the 8-pack we had. this bitch clearly doesn’t care if I starve huh.
so yesterday I met up with heather after class in the student union. did I mention how much I love cafe bustelo? I really love it. a good cafe con leche really warms me up. we talked for a while, then I walked her to class. In our conversation, our birthdays came up at some point (I think I said something along the lines of “you didn’t get me anything for my birthday this year! and she said “you didn’t get me anything either!”) and I was like “I bet you don’t even know my birthday” and she said april 22nd. and then later she was like yea well I bet you don’t know mine and i immediately said march 19, so she said she’d buy me starbucks today to make up for it.
today’s morning was really gr8 and also really un-gr8. like, I woke up at 7 thinking I had to leave the house at 8:30 for my ortho appt, and laid in bed for a while before finally getting up and showering. but when I stepped out of the shower and saw the time was 8, I realized that I didn’t leave the house at 8:30, my appointment was at 8:30. cue getting dressed while still partially damp, forgetting heather’s gov’t textbook, and going 75 in a 45 zone. I thank the gods daily that motorcycles don’t get red light tickets.
while driving down the main road leading to my university, I had this white car weaving between traffic. at one point he was behind me, but then when I slowed down in a turn he switched to the right, which ended up being right behind a campus shuttle (you know, the ones that drive 5 mph under the speed limit at all times and you can barely see around. and they’re diesel, ugh!). as he saw me speed up at the end of the curve, he switched back to behind me and sped up too, but as soon as I reached level with the front of the shuttle (and the pickup on the other side of me), I slammed on my brakes so he couldn’t try to go around. Definitely risked getting run the fuck over, but it was so worth it seeing the look of frustration on his face.
I got nearly instant karma, though, because he entered the university through the first turn, when I went for the second a little ways up since it’s closer to my garage. but the traffic light was down, so I had to merge into one lane with everyone else, and then they wouldn’t even allow left turns because it’s too complex for the person directing traffic, so I had to make a right then a u-turn. But it was made up for by the fact that the trike that normally parks in my spot was probably also deterred by the traffic, and I got to claim my righteous spot.
so when I got on campus, I went to heather’s class, or rather, the building it was in since I couldn’t find room 106 exactly. I remembered that my annoying coworker said that her classes were in that building + the one next to it also on tuesdays, but I thought that there was no way I’d actually bump into her considering there are over 60,000 students and the buildings are pretty large, plus I didn’t know what time her classes are.
well, now I know that her class gets out at the same time + same building as heather. we walked towards the starbucks (which is near her next class), and I introduced her to heather, we talked about how it was to work at universal, the sort. and then she was like “well I gotta go to class now, bye!” and i was like bye and smiled and when she was more than 20 feet away I turned to heather and said “that’s the coworker I told you that I hate.”
I love pumpkin spice season!!!!!!!! got a frappuccino tho, because it’s never truly fall in florida. heather got a mango dragonfruit refresher bc I recommended it to her, and it’s funny because the person ordering before us was also named heather and also ordered a mango dragonfruit. As a barista, that’s like my worst nightmare. Luckily they were able to tell it apart because the other heather got a grande. We sat in the starbucks for a while, I explained how weed is a lot more safe than cigarettes, talked about pine hills’ reputation, and how samantha’s mom is so damn disrespectful. This woman drove heather home one day when picking up samantha, and the whole ride was bragging about how samantha was going to be so successful because she’s majoring in some type of psychology and will be making over 90k a year. and then she turned the conversation to how teachers don’t make that much money, and she asks heather how she could do that, just take such a low-paying job. and lemme tell ya how MY GIRL HEATHER FUCKIN SNAPPED. she done said she tired of people saying teachers don’t make a lot of money yall. she said to samantha’s mom, “I don’t know how you’re looking down on my salary when you have three children from three different men with only a salary of $30k.” Y’ALL. the point that heather was trying to make the point that “people from working-class families act as if a salary less than 100k is unacceptable even for an unmarried, childless young adult despite working class families often having a household income of 50k while supporting children just fine,” but damn she really went there. goin off on this good catholic woman for having baby daddies. well samantha’s mom and samantha became very upset. and they told heather’s dad who would not leave her alone until she apologized. as in, he was banging on her door telling her she had to apologize. I said put headphones in and ignore it, she was like “girl you don’t understand haitian parents. my dad literally opened my door with a knife when I locked it.” so she had to apologize :/ but she also made it clear that she didn’t like the way samantha’s mom disrespected her. she tried to make it seem relatable, and be like, “oh what if i said that to your mom, wouldn’t you tell me to apologize” and I’m like???? no???? I would make my mom apologize for being disrespectful first the hell??? then I reminded her about how I literally lived on the streets for 3 weeks because my mom was disrespectful to me.
today after class I decided to take the city bus home, for 4 reasons: I wanted to stay humble and remember where I came from, I wanted time to be able to finish this book, not walking the last half-mile home every day this semester has caused some weight gain, and I really wanted to hold my parking spot against that damn trike, and it seems he comes too early in the morning for me, so I just left my bike there overnight. yea I’m petty.
The book was really good. It’s definitely a hard read, for sure. In the sense that it really will make you cry. At the end, it listed all of the school shooting victims since columbine, plus a small snippet about them (it was like 20 pages long). The one that really got me was an 8 year old, whose text read “shoot me first,” as he wanted to take a bullet so it wouldn’t be used against his classmates. Then, below that entry, a seven year old, who said “shoot me next.” Just typing that is making my eyes water again.
The walk home was super tiring. I’m super out of shape, it was hard for me to even imagine that I did this every single day the entire first semester of college. And I have to do it tomorrow morning again, ugh. Can you believe heather wakes up at 5:30 am???? I’m never seen out of bed before 7, and even then it’s only for things like appointments. But I guess I really should start waking up earlier, because whenever I get on campus around 8 I feel great because I have so much time to study and stuff. but that means I have to buy a coffee on campus, and I don’t know if I want to commit to that expense.
edit: so I originally posted this to my main, and when I saw that I copied it, then deleted it, then tried to paste it into a new post, but I guess I didn’t press ctrl hard enough because it didn’t copy. and I was about to cry bc this is close to 2k words, but then I realized I had a tab of my main open that still had the original post showing, so I copied from there.

Time in-between
And an impromptu road trip.
On one hand I dread the upcoming loneliness, but one the other I want to move on with my life and get this year over with. This in-between-ness is super mentally taxing and I need structure in my life.
I’ve been spending as much time with my guy as possible and basically neglecting all my studies/work stuff whenever he’s home. This means I have no routine and no structure to my days, and thus I have a hard time recalling which day of the week it is or what I’m supposed to be doing tomorrow. My orgnaized self is suffering, but I’ve scrapped timetables on behalf of time spent together. Today I had to work on my timetables/to-do lists just to get out of a depressing slump of worthlessness.
The last weekend of August was spent working on some extra JLPT stuff and planning for my dance students. On Sunday we had our fun little idea seminar/training day for new teachers, where we got to know each other and learn new stuff to teach our dance/gymnastics students.
I started going to ballet classes again. Our new teacher is awesome, she’s a tough lady with a lot of skill in both ballet and teaching. It’s going to be a good year. We got our gym shifts sorted and it feels good to go and exercise regularly again.
I managed to get the key for the dance studio I teach in. It’s above the skating rink and I feel happy that it’s close by and an actual facility with janitors etc.  on duty and no alarms on rather than a school that’s closed for the night. It’s going to be fun teaching there. It seems like I’ll be getting two groups to teach. It isn’t a lot but it’s something. I emailed my students some instructions and I can’t wait to meet them tonight. I’ve had issues with one girl and her mom in the past, and now she’s signed up for my ballet for 7-9 -year-olds.. I’m kind of dreading her but I just have to try to be strict and kick her out if she can’t focus enough. I feel like ballet isn’t for her at all but what can you do.
I finished going through source material for my MA thesis. What’s left now is restructuring and placing all the new stuff to appropriate places, and to write write write. I also probably need some new research literature but I’m so glad I’m finally moving to a new stage. I’ve felt so unmotivated regarding the whole thing it’s going to be good to have something new to work on.
Me and my friend signed up for JLPT this Wednesday. However the next day it turned out that the embassy people had conveniently forgotten to write down that instead of the sign up email, this year all the paperwork had to be at the embassy by 8.9.! So Thursday was a chaotic day, scrambling around for passport photos and receipts of the exam fee. I also had housing cooperative meeting to go to, and ended up ditching ballet class. On Friday (the deadline the paperwork had to be submitted) me, my friend and my boyfriend took a roadtrip to the embassy. Luckily my guy got his exchange student visa, so that the three of us all had to visit the embassy regardless. We left at 6am, were there at 10:30 when the embassy opened, filled in the required paperwork, handed it in and left at 11:30. We stopped once to eat some lunch on our way back and were home around 2pm. Efficient. It was hilarious but at least we signed up on time. Barely. I would’ve been so pissed if - having spent all summer working on JLPT stuff - I had to wait until next year. Thank God we had a day’s notice to get ourselves to the embassy. I wish they’d update their website to where it says “sign up via email by XX.XX.XXXX, and submit required paperwork by mail or in person by XX.XX.XXXX” rather than just “sign up by XX.XX.XXXX”. Last year the email had to be sent during September, the paperwork was sent over in October and the test voucher came back in November. I wish they’d have notified us of moving the process ahead a month... Anyway it’s done and we should be good for this December’s exam.
The impromptu trip to the embassy meant that I couldn’t go to the office on Friday, and had to postpone a lot of work stuff. I did make it to my ballet weekend course on time however. We did barre work, pointe work and were introduced to two variations on Friday. I had a little sleepover with mum where we went to the sauna, ate some burritos, girl talked, filled in crosswords puzzles and I got to sleep in my own bed for the night. On Saturday I went back to ballet at 11am. We did some character dance barre work and variations from Don Quixote and Giselle. My toes were still hurting from Friday evening so pointe work was awful, and I got super tired about 1½ hours in to the point where no matter how much I tried I was always half a count late because my body wasn’t responding. I struggled my way through and was pretty exhausted for the rest of the day. However it was super interesting and I learned a lot over the course of the two days.
Mum and I went to go get groceries and I bought mr. Bunny a hay holder that goes outside his cage. This way he hopefully won’t sit on his hay or move it to his poop pile causing me to carry it into the bio waste all the time. It might stay edible for longer unless he figures out he can pull all the hay out of the holder through the bars of the cage... We’ll see. He seemed to like the thing. He’s been super affectionate lately. I don’t know if he feels at home or has accepted me or what, but he keeps following me around and really likes to be pet. Last night I sat on the floor for half an hour finger combing through some of the beginnings of the more stubborn mats in his fur and he was fine with it. I’m not complaining, I need him to be cuddly because I’m going to get so so so lonely. My guy has been at his parents’ this weekend and I keep thinking this is how it’s going to be for almost an entire year...
I finally got my ects from some courses I took last year. It’s almost been a year since the first one started and so I sent a passive aggressive email (the 5th one) to the person responsible. I guess she got tired of my constant emails and the ects were in my account within 24 hours of the email.
I’m about to go teach my first dance classes this year. In the evening I’ll probably just chill out. I’ve been working on JLPT stuff twice as hard now since our little extra trip certainly added motivation. I’m going to be so pissed if I don’t pass and we took that trip for essentially nothing lol. Anyway next week I’m going to work on thesis stuff and email my supervisor regarding my progress, do a bit more JLPT stuff than up until now, do all of my office stuff that’s been dragging behind. I also need to pack for my work trip (eek). I’m leaving for the airport on Saturday, and the plane leaves early Sunday. My guy’s leaving on Tuesday and I return on Wednesday so that’s a bit of a bummer, but at least I’m not here to cry and feel like shit and make him feel like shit for leaving. I guess it’ll be a good thing. I’ve kind of scheduled the following Thursday to be a crying/JLPT day since those two generally go hand in hand but that’s still two weeks from now.
I’m going to get ready for dance teaching.
September is well underway although I’m not doing too well. Hopefully it gets better.

How To Master Your Website Even If You Are Not Tech-Ie
New Post has been published on https://myupdatesystems.com/how-to-master-your-website-even-if-you-are-not-tech-ie/
How To Master Your Website Even If You Are Not Tech-Ie
My website redesign went over-budget… I had three days to fix a long list of stuff, and my budget was running low, real low… and it turned out to be a Good Thing.
Although the “concept” of this website has started months ago, I have taken the time to let it brew because I want every move to be INTENTIONAL, to reflect how I want to do ME in my business.
4 weeks ago, I finally felt the click. The time was ripe, so I went ahead and contacted my web gal, Jenn, for the project. I outlined a scope, set a budget, prepare all the materials and necessary information (down to the hex#) to help make the process as smooth as possible. I thought I covered everything.
Of course, there is always Murphy’s Law. The theme we originally selected did not allow her to make the website the way we wanted (haha, so much about “plug-and-play”!) Then the sign up box under the header got all scrambled up when viewed on mobile.
Jenn ended up developing a custom theme for the site, and we had to come up with solutions for the mobile hiccup. Long story short, we ran out of time and budget.
It was Saturday and I was getting nervous about the list of “fixes” that needed to get done because I had a guest blog post going live on the next Tuesday with the author bio pointing to the new site.
The list was quite daunting… fixing homepage layout, adding a testimonial rotator, adding links to the footer, cleaning up social share icons, revisiting some sidebar content, figuring out URL redirect, setting up business email with the new domain name, going over layout of critical pages to make sure nothing is broken, synching up all Mailchimp lists and info with the new URL and email address, and installing a trigger-box for list building… And Jenn still had to code the homepage on Monday!
I decided that instead of toiling my thumbs, sweating buckets and putting pressure on Jenn, I would pitch in and check some stuff off the list.
And I did. I fixed some homepage layout stuff (figuring out html while chasing two kids was… interesting), hooked up the testimonial rotator, got all the sidebar and footer content sorted, figured out how to use a plug-in to set up redirect, reviewed layout of I-don’t-know-how-many pages (including 70 blog posts)… even tested a few pop-up plug-ins to see which one I like, and fixed the.php file for the shopping cart – without breaking anything!
On top of that, I did some research and came up with a solution for the scrambled sign up box on the header, created a new Photoshop file for Jenn so she can get it going first thing on Monday.
Yep, all in one weekend, while herding two kids and with family in town. Came Monday, Jenn was able to go in and focus on setting up the homepage and fixing the header sign up, and we got it “good to go” by the end of the day. PHEW!
Even though I was on hyperdrive and lost some sleep (the adrenals ain’t happy about that), it turned out to be a valuable learning experience.
I feel so much more empowered and confident about handling all things WordPress – not just what I can do to fix something, but also where to find the resources/information to tackle a problem. That means I didn’t just solve the crisis at hand, but also learned a bag of tricks and gathered a box of tools that will save me time, money and panic down the road.
It’s not about “doing it all by myself”. It’s not about proving something. It’s not about saving VA budget.
It’s about being able to be flexible and “not freak out” – because when sh!t happens at the 11th hour (and it will), you still have to roll up your sleeve and fix it. It’s better to feel confident and prepared, rather than spending the time and effort to start learning and panicking (which does NOT help with the thinking bit.)
It will cut frustration and panicking – energy drains that are not conducive to putting good vibe out there to attract the clients you want.
WordPress basics is NOT rocket science. First Thing you need to do to Conquer “Technology” is to stop saying “I am not tech-ie”
If you go in thinking you can’t handle it, you will look at the bumps and hiccups as evidence that you can’t handle it. Really, it’s that simple. It may sound like some trite personal development stuff… but that’s true and let’s roll with it for a moment.
You don’t have to be “tech-ie” to make things work on WordPress, or to hook up your online marketing. I had a client who asked a friend that teaches computer stuff in the university to help her with website, email marketing, social media and whatnot… of course, that friend has NO idea what Mailchimp is about, or how to make Facebook work for a business.
If you are thinking “tech-ie-ness” is what you need, you are barking up the wrong tree.
A lot of times, learning the basics (even the intermediates) is about having the clear head and the openness to ask the right questions.
Clear head comes from having the confidence in yourself that you CAN do it. Many competent coders don’t get it right the first time (I have witnessed this time and again during my 10 years working closely with these guys in online marketing agencies.) It is about having the confidence to keep at the troubleshooting – TRUST that you can do it, and think creatively.
How to Become the Master of Your Website
Of course, it’s not like you tell yourself you can do it and you can (I am not that out there.) Managing a website does take some solid skills and practical knowledge, so here are a few things to help you empower yourself and take charge so you can be the Master of your website:
(note: being the “master” does not mean you have to know how to do everything. It is about having the control so you can manage what comes up and devise solutions for the problem at hand)
Educate yourself on the basics – you don’t have to know how to code, but understanding the basics, knowing what to ask and using the correct terminologies can help facilitate the process. There will be fewer chances of miscommunication – which can lead to your web guy building something totally different that what you *think* you are getting, wasting precious time and money. I also find that developers show you more respect and are less likely to give you BS if you take the initiative to know your part.
If you hire someone to set up a website for you, ask for a 30-minute walkthrough as part of the service package so you feel comfortable making changes on your own, instead of having to wait a few days just for some minor adjustments to be made.
Check out this plug-in called Sidekick – it provides interactive, real-time, narrated guides through the WordPress administration area.
Don’t forget good ol’ Google! Ask the right question, and focus on your end goal so you don’t get sucked into the rabbit hole.
If you purchase themes and plug-ins, chances are the merchant offers some kind of support, such as a forum or help desk. Make good use of them – most sellers are very helpful and I had good experience with many of them.
If you have an email newsletter service provider and need to hook up your sign up form to your website, call customer support or submit a help ticket. Personally I have great experience with Mailchimp email support.
Know where to find help when you need it – there are many websites where you can post a task and developers will respond with a quote. E.g. Elance.com, oDesk.com, and Codeable.io.
A few “DUH” tips to save you time and frustration:
(I learned them the hard way… )
Clear Cache! Yes, simple as that! As you edit and save and edit more and save more, your browser gets gunk up with stuff. It not only impacts the load time (which can be frustrating for the impatient) you may also be seeing things that have already been updated but are still showing up because the browser is “remembering it.”
Less Is More when it comes to plug-ins. Those bells and whistles may look cool but the more plug-ins you have the more likely a code conflict will occur. Deactivating all the plug-ins (except the ones you can’t live without) and then reactivating them one by one to see which one is causing trouble, can often help troubleshoot a lot of issues.
Take a break. I can’t tell you how many times I walk away from nearly trashing my computer and come back with new solutions that worked magic.
Don’t Forget These Website Soulwork
You never know what variety of sh!t is going to hit the fan when the 1’s and 0’s are having a party, so SHOW UP to whatever shows up to you. And TRUST that you can do it (or have the resource to find someone who can!)
Fears* may be holding you back from asking the right questions, or asking any question! (Having humor helps if you end up asking the stupidest question… make a joke and laugh about it. I do that all the time.) – The fear of INADEQUACY – if you feel like you are not good enough, you don’t have the confidence to challenge others. You may not want to ask questions because it may reaffirm your limiting belief that you don’t know enough. – The fear of being VULNERABLE – if you don’t want to appear vulnerable, you may “puff up” and appear that you know it all. You don’t want to ask questions that make you appear not knowledgable. – The fear of MISSING OUT – if you are afraid that if you don’t “act now” and get it done you may miss out on something – and this fear drives you to make hasty decisions before you have all the facts. E.g. how many times we succumb to pithes like “buy this plug-in now for $97 or you will be the only one left without these cool features on your website!”, and ended up with a bunch of “stuff” on our hard drive – never installed, never put to use – only adding guilt and even make us feel we must be dumb because we can’t figure out what to do with it.
(Recap) If you go in thinking you can’t handle it, you will look at the bumps and hiccups as evidence that you can’t handle it. Pat yourself on the back every time you figure out something, because it gives you the encouragement to do more.
If you don’t preconceive what you can or cannot do, you may be pleasantly surprised by what’s possible.
Your potentiality is only limited by the fence constructed with what you tell yourself. Mind your words

How To Master Your Website

How To Master Your Website
My website redesign went over-budget… I had three days to fix a long list of stuff, and my budget was running low, real low… and it turned out to be a Good Thing.
Although the “concepting” of this website has started months ago, I have taken the time to let it brew because I want every move to be INTENTIONAL, to reflect how I want to do ME in my business.
4 weeks ago, I finally felt the click. The time was ripe, so I went ahead and contacted my web gal, Jenn, for the project. I outlined a scope, set a budget, prepare all the materials and necessary information (down to the hex#) to help make the process as smooth as possible. I thought I covered everything Page Papi.
