what kinda underwear do you think the male cast would wear?? i like to think Jade would go without some days, so improper!! OTL Floyd with the colorful patterns, whether he actually wears them tho is a 60/40. i can see him in those cliche heart boxers very, very easily. Do you think any of the cast would keep their lovers' underwear, like a souvenir? I could see Lilia doing it. 1/3 (the rest is just horny posting for a fish)

2/3 (this is *not* an art request just me being down bad for a semi-crazy assfish) I would die to see jade leech in lingerie OTL i cant think of any scenarios where he'd wear it, but god is it a beautiful mental image. Considering his take on clothing (being a mer+weird asf) I don't think he'd have any actual hangups about it, but he still wouldn't do it under normal circumstances. i think part of the appeal for me, is that you wouldnt expect a guy like him (big, top, JADE) to wear sumn like it

This is such a great theme for hcs, and I am very sorry that it took so long, but please understand: this is a very complicated subject, I just had to do research before writing it. Well, in actuality I was just googling all kinds of underwear over and over again until the picture in my head for every single boy looked right lol We’ll get to hcs shortly, but first I’ll reply to the other things you’ve said!

Btw, this ask is from MARCH, that’s how far behind I am in replying to those.

Totally agree about Lilia stealing his lover’s undies as a souvenir. This is his trophy, and he is very proud of them. He should have a display in his room…

Floyd also has his stealing undies moments. Some of the boys he sleeps with could be smitten with him enough to try to gift him their underwear, and Floyd would go “??? Why the fuck do I need these”. But sometimes? He just steals them lol He totally stole a couple of Riddle’s undies. He doesn’t really store them well though, so they’re just lying around his and Jade’s room…

Rook. Rook would also take trophies. And he would take such good care of them it’s insane. Now this is someone who would have a display somewhere… somewhere where no one would be able to see it unless he wants them to…

I also think Ortho would do it one time just because he wanted to play out the trope of having someone else’s panties in his room, oops! He’s a weird boy.

Can’t say much about Jade in lingerie, but it really would look good, not gonna lie….

Riddle – god I want him to have cute ones with a strawberry print, but realistically he is probably wearing just some plain tighty whities…. unless they have a pretty embroidered “R” on it, which is somehow even worse. I love him so much. Wait, would he be the one to wear undies with the weekdays written on them?

Ace – just some boxer briefs, nothing crazy; he used to have very colourful ones when he was younger, with fun prints and all, but nowadays he tries to be a bit more stylish and mature about it, so a lot of times he goes for dark-red/red/black ones.

Deuce – pretty neutral, but he does have a “lucky” pair of trunks that he always wears when he has something important going on that day… He also has a pair of very good seamless running underwear (deep blue with some light blue patterns), and he kind of cherishes them because it’s an expensive gift. Just wear them and run, Deuce…

Trey – he prefers boxers, the ones that are basically just shorts and aren’t tight. They also look pretty plain, but he has some with the tartan print. Usually green or red… He would look like a Men’s Health model if he wore something less loose and more stylish, but he loves his stupid tartan boxers!

Cater – boxer briefs, but the “leg” part is somewhat shorter; he has a variety of different ones, but it’s almost always some variation of grey and orange. He buys the ones that seem cool to him, even the sillier ones are on the cooler side; he is very happy that his sisters don’t have power over what kind of underwear he wears… he thinks about it every time he looks in the mirror after taking a shower.

Leona – probably something high-end and luxury, but he also doesn’t wear them all the time. He wears something short, slick and sporty when he does anything sport-related and needs support for his balls, but other than that – nah, putting on underwear is just another annoying unnecessary extra thing to do.

Ruggie – he bought the cheapest ones available in bulk when he was like 13, and he still wears them (they were a little big for him when he first got them). His grandma said that it has to be cotton, but other than that – it doesn’t matter, and Ruggie believes it wholeheartedly. So I guess some neutral grey briefs? Nothing too fancy.

Jack – oh this boy. He doesn’t like underwear that doesn’t give him good support, so all of his options fit pretty close to his body. I guess his signature ones would be briefs in which one leg is just plain black, and the other leg has a print of half of the wolf face… what, you think it’s cringe? At least it’s not the ones where the wolf’s face is in the crotch area… Jack actually thinks those are cringe too – he got a pair of those from Ace, Deuce and Epel for his birthday (google wolf underwear)

Azul – Calvin Klein and Hugo Boss are his best friends. Very… gentlemanly. He always picks the ones that would make him feel like a successful young man. They’re not too short, but a little shorter than regular boxer briefs, and always very tight. To some maybe even uncomfortably tight, but Azul doesn’t mind it at all for some reason. He has exactly 10 pairs of grey and purple ones, exactly 10 pairs of black and purple ones and a couple of white ones.

Floyd – a big collection, kind of like with his shoes and socks. He hates plain ones, but some of his undies aren’t obnoxious – he has a couple of pretty stylish and bright ones that aren’t too crazy. But yeah, a lot of them are pretty obnoxious and bright lol He loves loose boxers, but also has some tighter ones too.

Jade – yeah he’d go commando lol But not all the time. His choice of underwear is… eclectic. Of course, he has some plain ones (a couple of those are similar to Azul’s but in a different colour and size), but also? He has some surprisingly silly ones. Of course with mushrooms and stuff, or something that too cursed even for Floyd to wear. It just tickles Jade when he has a secret…

Kalim – luxury underwear! Mostly white + yellow/golden/orange ones, but he has some black ones as well. Super high quality, super special design, super cool-looking actually. And Kalim doesn’t even know that his underwear is different from the rest of the guys, but if he ever was to try on some other type of underwear, he would immediately feel discomfort and say that it doesn’t feel right against his skin. Too rough…

Jamil – his is also pretty high quality; even though his family serves the Asims, I feel like this is exactly why Jamil can afford a good pair of underwear. It’s not even remotely near the price tag of Kalim’s though, god forbid, no one should allow to wear underwear this expensive..! Anyways, since Jamil likes to go sleeveless, he probably prefers underwear that doesn’t cover his thighs at all, so just some regular tight briefs. It’s mostly black+deep red, his favourite colour combo.

Vil – there he is, the underwear guru. He has all kinds of underwear and sometimes changes it multiple times per day depending on his activity: he wears seamless short briefs for yoga so it’s not visible through his leggings, but still gives him support, he wears longer boxer briefs for jogging so his thighs don’t rub against each other too much, he wears some other type for flying… his collection is expensive, high quality and very well organised… What was that? A thong? Of course he wears a thong sometimes, it looks hot. And lingerie too, when it’s appropriate. Come on now.

Rook – there he is, the man who used to wear underwear with holes in it and didn’t even care. Point at him, laugh at him, and then say thank you to Vil Schoenheit who took one look at this creature and said “I can fix him”. Anyways, nowadays Rook wears a pair of seamless boxer briefs that hug his body tightly but don't feel suffocating; he owns a bunch of these in different colours. He also owns a jockstrap, and finds it kind of functional, but it makes his butt too prominent, so he doesn't wear it. It’s for special occasions only...

Epel – he fought his mum for the right to buy himself some new cool underwear before coming to NRC (having colourful undies your mom bought you when you were 12 SUCKS!), but he didn’t even get to wear them much because Vil saw them and gave him a lecture about how this is the worst type of underwear he could wear (pure polyester, are you serious??), and that Epel doesn’t care about the well-being of his down-there at all. Long story short, Vil got him some red+purple boxer briefs for the regular wear (not too tight, very comfy!) + a couple of  black pairs for magift (longer ones?? Epel didn’t even know it existed). Epel was actually worried that he would get some stupid girly underwear, but wow these are… kind of nice. But he would never admit that the ones Vil got are much better!!

Idia – he usually wears the grey ones with triangles that STYX issues for its personnel. They are pretty comfy, and you can just grab a box and boom – you don’t have to think about your underwear ever again, EASY. But also Idia has some kind of childish loose boxers… with his favourite characters, of course. This isn’t just underwear, it’s also merch. Perfect for rewatching 300 episodes of your favourite anime.

Ortho – how much he wishes he could wear underwear…! But if we’re talking about real!Ortho, I think he would also like good ol’ regular loose boxers. But overall his underwear collection is less childish than Idia’s, at least because he has some Calvin Kleines.  And yes, of course it’s black and neon blue. He doesn’t really like the STYX ones because they make him sad, but he wears those from time to time because he wants to match with Idia.

Lilia – the moment he discovered funky underwear he was never the same. It’s the same thing he does with socks: he buys everything that seems fun, even if it ends up not being his size: he just gifts it away to younglings, so it’s all good! I think every Diasomnia boy has at least one pair of underwear that doesn’t match his style at all, because it was Lilia’s gift… anyways, Lilia either wears black ones with bright patterns (black + neon green+pink!), or something completely obnoxious. Nowadays he’s also thinking whether he could pull off something cute+sexy…

Silver – he wears whatever and doesn’t think about it twice, as long as it’s clean and has no holes in it. The majority of his underwear are pretty boring regular boxer briefs + just regular boxers that aren’t as tight. He also has one silly pair with blue and pink birdies… a gift from father, of course. He always smiles when he wears them.

Sebek – his default is black+green briefs; his thighs are getting too powerful, so he doesn’t like shorts-type underwear these days. But he does wear one lengthier pair – and it’s special equestrian underwear that has padding on the crotch. Sometimes the boy just wants some extra protection against rubbing okay… it’s not as much of a problem for the rest of the equestrian club boys for some reason.

Malleus – it’s clearly custom-made just for him: it’s black, made of high quality special type of silk + has beautiful lacing. Honestly, Malleus panties are a piece of art. I guess it’s like traditional Briar Valley type of design, but super extra fancy; he is the future King, after all. It’s hard to say if it’s comfy or not, but it looks quite dramatic. Malleus also has some underwear that is lengthier, almost like leggings. 

Bonus round!:

Crowley – doesn’t wear anything. Don’t tell anyone.

Crewel – a big variety, a lot of bold patterns, but his favourite pair is a part of black trunks with a white zebra print. Shocking, I know. He has some pretty sexy ones though, maybe even a thong.

Trein – granpa undies… grandpa undies.

Vargas – unfortunately, probably a jockstrap.

Sam – well wouldn’t you want to know? :)

Che’nya – he almost never wears underwear. And he flashes people. He is a very, very bad cat. He only wears underwear when he knows his pants are going to slide down because he doesn’t know how to use a belt properly, and people are going to see that he is wearing boxers with cartoon hedgehogs tickling each other in a weirdly sexual manner. Bad, bad cat.

Neige – pretty plain ones! Almost all of his underwear is either white or light blue. Some of them have silly prints, almost too cute for a guy… He gets tons of very cool expensive underwear for free as promo, but he donates the majority of them without even unpacking it. Thank you for your kindness, but people need undies more than Neige <3

Rollo – he is similar to Riddle, but I also think he would be that one kid who wears some priestly old-timey looking cotton shorts, because these are more traditional, and traditions are to be cherished. One could think that this is a part of his school’s uniform, but nah, Rollo is just a little weirdo… looks good on him though.

Fellow – I’m sorry, it’s probably kind of bad :( it used to be a decent pair of boxer briefs that he got when they suddenly got lucky enough with money, but now it’s well-worn and has some holes in it. It also used to be bright orange, but now it has a pale sort of peachy hue… he wants to get something new to wear, but whenever they get the money, clothes aren’t really a priority.

Gidel – his aren’t as bad because Fellow always wants Gidel to have something at least a little bit better than what he has, but Gidel’s pair of boxers is clearly too big for him. It’s pinned around his waist just so he doesn’t lose them… it has some guy’s name written on the butt part, and while Fellow finds it kind of depressing (maybe he remembers the guy he stole those from), Gidel thinks it’s pretty funny.

“Hey.” Theo scolded, refusing to let the handsome, but seemingly bratty celebrity get to him. “Don't get snappy with me, Liam Dunbar. I just dropped everything to help you.”

“You're literally an uber driver.” Liam rolled his eyes again, his head lolling along with it this time as well.

“An off-duty uber driver.” Theo corrected. “Speaking of which, give me that $100. I don't feel bad taking all of it now that I know you're rich.”

The one where Liam is a lost musician in the streets of Berkeley, and Theo is the San Francisco uber driver who really needs to explain to Liam how uber works.

Angst. Drama. Quirky one-liners. A famous musician AU? What doesn’t this fic have for its readers? This story makes you laugh and cry and curse Theo and Liam for being such damn fools. But it ends on a hopeful note and you learn that love isn’t a straight line, it’s full of bumps along the way but that’s what makes it so worthwhile.

So, y'know... the usual.

Stories told from Jenna’s perspective are always a fascinating way to watch Liam and Theo’s relationship developing. In this fic, Liam absent-mindedly kisses Theo for the first time, in front of his mother, before immediately leaving the house. You’ll be charmed by the way Liam and Theo both freak out, while Jenna gossips with the pack and analyses their every move. If you enjoy funny and fluffy stories, then this should definitely be placed on your to-read pile immediately!

We at OTL definitely love a 5 + 1 story, and we know that all of our lovely followers are the same. What’s lovely about this fic is that it shows the pack and their journey towards accepting Theo as one of their own and showing him the affection that we all know our touched starved Theo craves. As you follow Theo on his path to redemption, you’ll beam at the sweet way he comes to realise his feelings for the beta. A must read for all fans of this pairing.

[[  This another ask (or rather set of asks pf) that I’ve been thinking of how to best respond to precisely because it’s such high praise and I want to properly reflect my gratitude for that, but alas it doesn’t get more elaborate than a thank-you!  Because I really am grateful.  It means a lot to me that people--especially those that are just as into going super in-depth in characters such as yourself; I always enjoy reading the About pages for your characters for that precise reason--enjoy my characterization of Giegue this much because a lot of thought has indeed gone into this alien.  And it’s not just because I’m generally a very detail-oriented person that likes to dig down deep with characters, but precisely because of how he comes across in the games as you said.

tbh it’s precisely because of that that until I started to think about him more and develop him practically from scratch--originally just for fun as a kind of mental exercise pf--I actually didn’t care much about him.  Like don’t get me wrong, I felt bad for the way he suffered both in M1 and in M2, but there was so little of and about him that I was just like ‘okay.  there’s the antagonist.  time to kick his ass and finish the games’.  And so, while my intent with eventually getting around to RPing as him was partially to go beyond that stereotype of ‘evil alien conqueror’ that seemed to be prevalent in some parts of the fandom... I can’t entirely fault people for having this perception because shallow as it is... that’s on the games for how he was presented in them otl.

His character is just that nebulous... which might have been the point.  After all, he was meant to be this enigmatic and otherwordly yet undeniably threatening alien force!

Ahem that aside... I’m glad that you enjoy all these aspects of him from the deeply flawed nature of his to the fact that he’s trying to forge a better path now.  Those are especially important to his journey as a character on this blog with the latter being among the things I enjoy most about working with, but for the sake of not repeating myself too much I’ll leave it at that and focus on the additional comment on the contrasting emotions he has for Maria and his species of origin respectively.  Because that in and of itself is reflective of another big important aspect to him (and among one of my favourites tbh), that being this duality that he has to himself and the way that itself is reflective of this intense dissonance within him.

He’s too Psion to be human and he’s too human to be Psion.  He wants to be loved and accepted, but he also thinks that it doesn’t apply to him/he doesn’t deserve it/it’s better that he remains as is because of how ‘dangerous’ it is.  He wants to be good, but he also believes that it’s technically ‘impossible’ because his truest nature is an ‘evil’ one.

He loves Maria more than anything/anyone else, even if he never says it directly.

And he hates the Psion species more than anything/anyone else to the point such that in an erased future, he murdered all of them and blew up their half of the universe just to make sure.

But.  Powerful as that hate is... the love in him is definitely stronger.  There might be a lot of dark aspects to him and because of his upbringing, he has been warped and fucked up... but despite it all, there’s still something good in there and it’s partially situated in his love for Maria.  He’s not good because he loves Maria, but rather it is because that love was strong enough to conquer the hatred in him (even if won’t fade away) that he could even consider being better let alone setting out on that path to achieve that goal.  It might be cliche, but in the end... --true love (being loved by Maria and loving her in return) is what saved him from otherwise being an irredeemable villain or rather, ending his existence like one.

SO off that tangent... I’m glad that you like this multifaceted aspect to him --I find that not making a character strictly one thing or another makes for a much more engaging character and resultant RPs.  And thanks once again for sending this my way!  I truly appreciate it and it honestly makes all the more excited about being more on my blog and doing things on it.  ]]

Author Name: I’m Infriga on tumblr but I go by Ppleater on AO3 because it’s a username I liked to use in the past lol.

Fandom(s) you write for: Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, and in the past I’ve also written one or two things for Red vs Blue, Gintama, Chuck, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, and SGA. Most of my older stuff is on FFN, where it will stay because it’s old and embarrassing lol. I want to write a One Piece fic some day but christ is it a hard fandom to write for. There are so many puzzle pieces and moving parts and layers to everything in the OP world that anything bigger than a oneshot is daunting. Also Luffy’s mind is an enigma so I can only imagine how difficult he’d be to write.

Where you post: AO3. I used to post on FFN years ago, but not anymore because let’s be honest, ffn kinda sucks in comparison.

Most popular one-shot: My RvB fic I guess. The long cliched title is Five Times Tucker Knew Church Was a Robot, And One Time He Forgot That Church Was Still Human. It’s not all that popular, but it got more attention than any of my older oneshots on FFN haha.

Most popular multi-chapter: My Gravity Falls fic about kid Stan and paranoid Ford, 1 Step Forward, 20 Years Back. It was my first multichapter fic, and boy was I floored by the response it got!

Favorite story you wrote: I’m really bad at picking favourites! I like both my GF fic 1 Step Forward, 20 Years Back, and my Steven Universe fic Aid to Navigation at the moment. They’re both more recent fics and I feel like I’ve shown the most improvement in writing both of them, which is part of why i like them more, but I like them both for different reasons so I can’t really choose between them.

Story you were nervous to post: Man I’m nervous posting everything I write lol. I guess I tend to be more nervous about my hurt/comfort stuff for some reason? Especially the hurt parts. Like the chapter where Stan gets thrown down the stairs by Bill in my GF fic, or the upcoming chapter 5 in my SU fic. I really enjoy writing that sort of stuff, and I love reading it even more, so I’m always a little like >:3c but I can be a wee bit sensitive about stuff I get really into writing because I’m invested in it so I’m also a little like <:3c every time, you know? Still, if there’s one thing I’ve learned by getting more involved in fandoms is that it can be worth it to just put stuff out there and own it even when I’m nervous about it, so I usually just force myself to press the post button before I can chicken out. It’s worked out pretty well for me so far.

How do you choose your titles? I’ve developed 2 main methods which, funnily enough, I used for my two recent multichapter fics.

Method 1 involves word play, such as using a pun or a saying that fits one of the themes of my fic, and I adjust it as needed it to match the story. I felt like the saying “1 step forward, 2 steps back” fit the whole portal confrontation in general, and Stan getting turned into a kid involves taking some pretty literal steps backwards, so I changed it to 20 years back to give it a de-aging spin and make it even more of a play on words. That one admittedly came pretty easy to me. I also came up with more puns,wordplay, and jokes for the chapter names to match.

Method 2 involves using symbolism. I like to figure out something I feel would be symbolic of my fic and I look for interesting and relevant terminology or topics related to whatever that symbol is. In Aid to Navigation I settled on lighthouses as the symbolic element because I felt it suited Steven’s character, since he lives on a beach, helps guide people, and literally glows. An aid to navigation is basically any structure that helps ships navigate on the ocean, which includes lighthouses in particular, and it felt really suitable for Steven’s character and the themes of the fic. Other terminology that popped up and caught my interest while looking into stuff related to lighthouses ended up serving as inspiration for the chapter names and some of the story progression.

Of course, sometimes a title just pops into my head automatically and I end up liking it right away, but that’s pretty rare lol.

How many of your stories are complete? 2 on AO3, my RvB oneshot and my GF fic, and an extra 7 oldy moldy ones on FFN which are all oneshots. I technically write more now than I used to, but while my word count has rised drastically the number of individual fics I’ve written isn’t too high yet. I just found I enjoy writing longer multichapter fics a lot.

In progress: Just Aid to Navigation at the moment. I’m the kind of person who usually likes to finish a writing project before moving to a new one.

Coming soon:

I’ve tried coming up with future projects but honestly it seems like I tend to just be sort of... Gripped with a sudden idea that just feels right. I always have tons of concepts I like, but most never actually become anything. Only a few strike me as something that I really want to turn into a story right away. I might make a series of connected oneshots for Aid to Navigation involving interactions and scenes that I couldn’t fit in due to there not being enough time to explore every character the way I wanted (like I wanted to write a scene with Lars and Steven for example, but it didn’t seem to fit anywhere), but beyond that I have no idea what I’ll end up writing.

Upcoming story you’re most excited to write: Do upcoming chapters of a current fic count? The chapters I felt most excited to write for Aid to Navigation are the next one which is already finished and awaiting the accompanying picture, titled “Red Sector”, and the following one after that, which will be titled “Leading Lights”. All I’ll say about them is that both types of lights serve as warnings.

People are so quick to undervalue kindness. They see it as weakness, a useless act that just costs you in the end.

For a while...he was one of them. To be soft was to have vulnerabilities. People only respect you when you are strong. When you let nothing get to you. When you keep your face a blank mask and your heart a hard stone.

He’d been weak when he was young. Then he and his brother lost their parents...and Sasuke learned just how cruel the world could be. How cruel people could be. A huge portion of his life was...gone.

And for that...he was bullied. Teased. Terrorized. Empathy was nowhere to be found in those his age. Instead, they sensed weakness...and took advantage.

It was then Sasuke swore...never again would be be soft. Never again would he expose open wounds. From then on, despite his tender age, Sasuke became cold. Aloof. Closed off from everyone around him. Even his older brother - his hero, his savior, his last link to family so close - had trouble prying him open and seeing what lay hidden within.

It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Itachi...but he still shied from his aunt and cousin. If he was to avoid any and all pain - any chance of being needled - he had to maintain his new facade at all costs. To all people.

He fell into cliche after cliche. Dark clothes. Loud music. Isolated, singular hobbies. His dark, edgy persona still gave him a kind of allure, and he had to warn off girl after girl that insisted they would be the light to his shadow. Convinced they were somehow a cure for all of his problems.

Tch...shallow brats that failed to grasp his reasoning...thus, he would never relent to them. If anything...they only served to push him further away.

There was only one person he regularly tolerated...and after a while, he wasn’t even sure the reasons why anymore. Naruto was loud, obnoxious, forward, and prying. He was always trying to drag the Uchiha out and get him into all kinds of hijinks and shenanigans. Most of the time, Sasuke just found him annoying.

...but maybe a small part of him appreciated the distraction. Someone who didn’t give up.

Like he already had.

By the time high school rolls around, he’s as embroiled in his persona as ever. It gets him his fair share of mockery, especially from older students. “Edgelord” he’s called. “Emo”. “Wannabe”. As if his trauma is no longer valid after so long. As if it’s him using the deaths of his parents as a weapon...and not everyone else.

Whatever…

He doesn’t particularly care about school. He does fine in his classes, hardly giving effort but still managing good grades. It drives Naruto up the wall. Part of him can’t help but be amused.

Odds are, he could have gone through their entire high school career without incident. Their school is big enough, they could have gone four years without crossing paths.

But fate has other ideas.

“Hey!”

Eyes drawn to the shout, Sasuke glances over in the hallway after the final class of the day gives out. On the floor is a rather tiny looking freshman he doesn’t know, a binder beside her having vomited papers as it fell. And in front of her is another girl, who stands toe to toe with an upperclassman nearly twice her size. She’s short, figure hard to determine in her baggy clothes. But there’s a stubborn set to her jaw as she looks up at what he assumes is the aggressor.

Well, this ought to be interesting.

“What?”

“You did that on p-purpose!”

There’s a snicker at her stutter. “And what if I did?”

“Apologize!”

“Yeah, right. I got better things to do with my time, shorty. Outta the way, or you’ll be the next one on the floor.”

“That attitude might make you feel powerful, but in the end it will o-only dead-end you. Bullies always end up sad, alone, and regretful.”

He gives a scoff, temper clearly burning away his aloof humor. “You sure got a mouth on you for a tiny little freshie. Clearly you dunno how things work in high school. You small fries stay of my way, and I don’t have to kick your ass. Your friend didn’t heed that too well, and now she’s on the floor. And if you don’t listen, then -”

“Then what?”

Two pairs of eyes both look over, spotting a hip-cocked Sasuke, hands in his pockets. The bully gives him a once-over, and snorts. “What, you her bodyguard, asshole? Finally crawl out of Hot Topic long enough to come to school?”

“Long enough to kick your ass if you don’t leave her alone.” Sasuke gives a smirk. “Bet I won’t even chip my nail polish,” he drawls, tone dripping with sarcasm.

“You’ve gone from cheeky to plain stupid, pal.”

“I’m not your pal. And you’re not nearly as tough as you think you are. If you really get off on picking on freshmen girls and name-calling, you need to find some new hobbies.”

The upperclassman’s jaw grits. “Don’t make me beat that grin off your face.”

“Go ahead, resort to violence. Just means I get the clear to defend myself. And given I’ve got eight years of self defense training...I’m willing to bet I can have you pinned in thirty seconds flat. Or...you could shuffle your neanderthal ass down the hallway and move on with your life. Otherwise, I’ll gladly humiliate you in public if that’s what you’re into.”

Face blooming bright red with temper, he seems to weigh Sasuke’s words as if trying to decide if he’s bluffing or not. In the end, he spits on his jacket before barreling past him, a few others following close behind.

Sasuke just glares from the corner of his eyes. He needs to wash this thing, anyway.

Kneeling down, the plucky girl helps her companion gather up her papers. “I’m sorry...but at least he’s gone.”

“It’s fine…I’m used to it…”

“Well you shouldn’t have to be.”

Somber face clearly not conveying any faith in such an idea, she just hugs the binder to her chest before keeping on her way.

Left behind, the other girl watches her go, expression a mixture of disappointment and glum acceptance.

“You’ve got some nerve, demanding an apology out of someone like that.”

Pale eyes glance to him a bit coolly. “...no one should act that way. It was mean and uncalled for.”

“That’s just life,” Sasuke counters. “The big guys pick on the little guys. Questioning it usually just gets you bruised.”

“You stood up to him, didn’t you?”

“Because he was about to mop the floor with you. And because I wasn’t lying about being able to handle him. You, on the other hand, don’t look quite so capable...no offense.”

“...none taken.” She sighs. “...I just...I can’t understand an attitude like that. How can people be so...mean?”

“No idea. They just are. You either let it get to you, or you buck up and grow enough shell to ignore it.”

“There’s no third option?”

“What third option?”

“Standing up against it! I’m not about to let some jerks intimidate me into silence! No matter what anybody else does to me, or says to me...I’ll still choose kindness. I can’t let it get to me. And I’m not about to let it change me, either.”

That earns an amused snort. “Whatever you want to tell yourself.”

She looks to him openly. “...I remember you.”

“Huh?”

“You’re the one who...lost his parents. In elementary school. Sasuke…?”

Dark eyes blink in surprise. “...and?”

“...I just thought someone like you would value kindness, given what you...w-what you went through.”

“...I learned that kindness is for suckers and weaklings. I didn’t get sympathy back then. I got harassment and bullying. That’s when I learned that it’s easier to feel nothing than let people hurt you like that.”

“...if that was true...why did you step in?”

He doesn’t respond.

“If that was true, then you should have just left me to figure that out myself, right?” She loosely folds her arms, considering him. “...what you did was kind. You didn’t have to help me. You chose to. Isn’t that a bit contradictory…?”

Sasuke scowls, brow furrowing. “...tch, whatever.”

A hint of a smile lifts her lips. “...well, either way...t-thank you. Hopefully he won’t mess with her again.”

“I wouldn’t count on it.”

“That’s why I said ‘hopefully’. It might not be likely...but I’ll still hope.”

What a weird girl… “...I gotta get home.” He’s surprised Itachi hasn’t come looking for him yet to drive him. How long has he even been standing here? Ten minutes?

“...me too. Bye, Sasuke…”

“You’re not gonna tell me your name?”

“...you care?”

“Might as well.”

A moment to consider him. “...Hinata.”

“Right...well, try not to stick your nose into any more trouble, Hinata.”

She just smiles. “I can’t make any promises...but maybe you’ll lend me a hand again, right?”

“Don’t count on something you don’t know.”

Hands fold behind her back, still smiling. “...call it a gut feeling.” With that, she gives a nod before making her way down the now-empty hallway.

...weird. Him, kind? Yeah right...it was just a random inclination. Doesn’t mean anything. He’s not about to go soft. Especially for some girl he hardly knows.

...still...she remembered who he was. Wasn’t snide about it. That was...interesting.

Mulling it over a moment longer, he then just shrugs, heading toward his locker. Well, it’s not going to happen again. No sense wasting time thinking about it.

I'm reminded that Digimon Frontier recently came out with their own somewhat-Tri-inspired audio drama that goes into all the kids future careers, and Takato actually does become a professional soccer player, and Izumi becomes a model like she dreamed of, and the other kids are all in careers that you could have completely guessed based on what they wanted to do when they were eleven. And it feels completely hollow, like none of these characters matured or grew.

the ONE thing I could think of with this scenario that might be nice (the drama implied it too maybe?) was that if Kouji travelled the world (*actually it seemed to be implied in the older Frontier drama he was already going to do this??) he might go see Takuya while / if ever in Italy tooand as a Takouji fan too I do like that implication but also just because it’d be nice if they could interact there even in a general non ship sense???

at the same time hmm I was . yelling a bit still because WOW THEY ACTUALLY WERE ALLOWED TO AGE (THANK GOD) and also (TOMOKI ?????) with Tomoki - he actually dropped Takuya’s “Takuya-onii-chan” which I’m super surprised about but is actually also weirdly nice to see in a way because now he’s using -san and it seems like he’s still showing Takuya respect even now despite that ?? ? (LIKE TAICHI + KOUSHIRO’S -SAN FLASHBACKS) - the contrast between an older Takuya and Tomoki was surprisingly interesting but

Despite what any rumors may say, Uchiha Sasuke is not some kind of horndog. Quite the opposite, really. For as many women (and the occasional man) may lust over him, he’s never been particularly interested in sex. Between the obnoxious reputation his hopefuls have garnered over the years, and his narrow focus to goals that had nothing to do with it...it’s just never been something the Uchiha has felt a need to explore.

He’s been approached by more people than he can count, hoping to lay some sort of claim to him. And with each passing rejection, he becomes more soured to the idea at all. Perhaps it was his upbringing, but such an act - in his mind - requires intimacy. Respect. Love. While he doesn’t care who does what with who (so long as he has no part in it), he can’t picture himself just throwing inhibitions to the wind and screwing someone just to say he did.

Naruto makes the mistake of teasing him about. Once. The subject is never breached again.

Sakura, thank the gods, doesn’t even try. Apparently his stone-cold silence has been telling enough. Soon, it seems to turn into a bit of a reputation among his peers. Not that he minds - at least a few people will know better than to bother him about it.

...and yet…

He will admit...he’s the tiny bit curious. Not so much about sex as he is about...intimacy as a whole. He’s never had a relationship. Not a romantic or sensual one, at any rate. And as his agemates begin tentatively pairing off, he can’t help but feel - partially to his annoyance - a bit...left behind.

Admittedly, what seems to bring the feeling about most is seeing his teammates. But...something about seeing them together brings a rather severe case of being a third wheel. A strange melancholy makes being near them difficult, so...he spends less and less time around them.

...they hardly seem to notice.

It’s not long before the others follow suit. He cares little, really, about the personal aspect. He’s never been particularly close to any of them. But every announcement of coupling seems to deepen the chasm between him, and those he was encouraged to befriend again upon his return.

...all but one.

The only fool that didn’t notice Hinata’s affection for Naruto was Naruto himself. As absorbed as he is in his own self-pity, Sasuke - ever-observant - can’t not notice hers. Like himself, she seems to skirt situations where the pair of them end up together: excusing herself with a bow to tend to clan business.

But even so, he still sees the somber smiles she gives them. Genuinely, she seems happy for them. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t feel heartbreak at a love lost. Or rather...a love never reciprocated.

So, almost naturally, those left to their devices...converge.

Their quiet natures - hers more reserved, and his more subdued - still manage to mesh well. To his surprise, Sasuke finds himself feel at ease around her...rather quickly. Like...friends. He can appreciate her unassuming presence. Nothing about her screams for attention. They can sit in the silence with neither boredom, nor awkwardness.

He finds himself seeking her out more and more often. Something about her feels...therapeutic. Different than he ever felt with his teammates, or family.

Sasuke doesn’t have a word for it until she kisses him.

Too caught off-guard to resist, he just stares down at her with wide eyes and a mind full of static. A kind of warmth seems to bloom from where her lips find his, swelling his chest and coursing through his nerves like a shock.

...he’s never believed those cliches until then.

Once he regains his senses, he urges her back half a step with a careful grip on her shoulders, looking to her in lingering surprise. “...are you okay?”

“I...yes. Did...did I do something wrong?”

The clearer his head gets, the more he second-guesses himself. Not one to beat around the bush, he asks, “...are you doing that because you like me...or because you can’t have what you want?”

It’s her turn to look taken aback. “You...you really think I would -?”

“I don’t want you settling, Hinata. You don’t deserve that.”

A moment of silence, and then she softens. “...I’m not settling for anything, Sasuke-kun...just because I cared for someone else...doesn’t mean I can’t care about you. You’re not a second choice...you’re a second chance.”

They linger and look at one another - Sasuke in search of a fib, and Hinata in search of understanding. “...you really mean that?”

“...I do.” Palms carefully reach to cup his cheeks. “...we each had our eyes elsewhere for...a long time. For our own reasons. But that doesn’t make what we see now worth any less.”

Still holding her arms, he studies her a moment longer. What he felt when she kissed him...that wasn’t just surprise. That was...relief. As though he’d been waiting for her to do that for a while now.

Just to test his theory, he takes a turn to kiss her. That same pleasant heat seems to wash over him, like a hearth in the bowels of Winter. A want for more of it draws her closer, feeling her grip shift to his neck as his own lowers to her waist. His hold is careful, feather-light...fearful of both hurting her, and making her feel trapped. But her own seems unphased in its fervor, helping bow him further toward her lower height.

It’s then that warmth seems to...intensify. It grows from coals to licks of flame, urging him to bring her a little closer, hold her a little tighter. Mouths meld and she starts to invade all his senses. Touch and smell and taste and sounds.

But before he loses his head, Sasuke surfaces with a gasp, looking to her with heavy-lidded eyes. Was that…? That was…

Hinata’s head ducks demurely, still clinging to his neck. “...was that...too fast…?”

“...no. But...maybe we should take a moment. I don’t want to -” Hurt her? Rush her? Push her away?

She gives a soft smile. “...okay.” Hands slide forward to rest atop his shoulders, a cheek resting against his chest.

Something within the cavity swells as he watches her.

...well, maybe there’s hope for the remnants yet.

     Word count: 1112      Cumulative: 11,880      SORRY this is a bit rushed - I ran out of time, and honestly this is a topic that, at times, can be a bit difficult for me to write for...personal reasons ^^; I really wanted to do more, but I have other responsibilities tonight, and honestly just...wasn’t feeling this prompt too much.      I write Sasuke in fics as I RP him, and I’ve always pictured him as grey-ace. I just don’t see him as a very sexual individual, so he wasn’t too keen on writing this, haha~ I wanted to expand much more on their relationship and its growth before things got serious, but sadly I just didn’t have the time. Sorry about that, guys OTL I know this is a bit of a tease compared to what could have been, but I do hope you enjoyed it nonetheless. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll do better! <3 And who knows? Maybe someday I’ll get back into multi-chap writing, and we can have a nice, long, proper SasuHina story rather than daily quips, ne?

Do you really think that Valt is a bad friend to Shu? Because I’ve seen every instance where he tries his absolute hardest to be there for his friend without being too overbearing. And what you said about Valt screaming at Shu to to snap him out of his brainwashing? I don’t think that was the case. It seemed more like the shock of losing to Valt was what snapped him out of it. And Valt did try talking to Shu before hand. Besides, don’t Bladers usually scream and shout more during battles anyway?

[This is going to be a truly impressively massive amount of text, because of course this is the Main Character and the Main Rival we’re talking about, so there’s a lot to unpack here – This is probably the most detailed/complicated relationship in the show, naturally. I apologize in advance for the obtrusive text wall…which I am only making larger by prepending it with this apology (;x_x)]

I don’t think Valt was intentionally a bad friend, but I do think he and Shuu are bad for eachother, yeah. And I have several different reasons for saying that; But first [and this might be a surprise], all of this is actually not why I don’t like Valt [so I don’t think it’s my bias talking when I say he’s a bad friend, ahaha]; I mean, Lui was of course way, WAAAAY more awful to Shuu than Valt was and I love Lui. [If they’re written well, I generally find complicated relationships really interesting, whether they’re healthy relationships or not.] I actually don’t like Valt specifically because I couldn’t stand the way he was written in s2 – He ended up harping on a lot of tropes that happen to annoy me [So it’s an entirely separate thing that basically just boils down to shallow personal taste jhgfhdkl OTL]. I actually didn’t particularly dislike Valt at all in s1 [though I also didn’t particularly like him, and I found his voice got on my nerves a bit sometimes], and I’m more than willing to STOP hating him in s3 if, when we actually see more of him, it becomes apparent that the writing team isn’t still puppeteering him with Bad Cliches for the sake of the plot. /end disclaimer

Now, here’s my actual answer under a cut, because it’s just…so much…:

I don’t think Valt was “trying to support Shuu without being overbearing” for the most part at all; Valt was just completely oblivious to the fact that there was something seriously wrong with Shuu until Shuu had already gone totally off the deep end. I think what you’re reading as “support” is maybe just how Valt was always so cheerful and happy towards Shuu? But that’s not actual support, that’s just…basic enthusiastic friendliness. Valt didn’t try to address any of Shuu’s bad ideas or unhealthy thought patterns, and try to steer him away from them; like, think of how 1) Shuu helped Dyna decide against quitting beyblade, or 2) how Hoji physically stopped Wakiya from beating his fists against the wall after a loss, and then convinced him that there was no shame in losing and this was actually just a chance to learn from the mistake and try again later, or even 3) how at the end of s2 Wakiya told Shuu something along the lines of “Hey what you did was fucking dumb dude, don’t do that again” but also forgave him for it because ofc they’re still friends even after the Red Eye fiasco, etc. THAT’S support. “Support” is “trying to help somebody through a problem{*}”. And Valt…obviously couldn’t do that if he wasn’t aware of Shuu’s problems in the first place.

Hell, Valt somehow wasn’t even aware of how Shuu got his scar. Near the end of s1, when Shuu told the team about how Lui tried to gouge out his eye, Valt was as surprised as everybody else. That’s always been a major “What the fuck” moment for me; did Valt not even watch that battle? His “best friend” was fighting Lui Shirasagijo, and I’m sure that was televised? Why was Valt not aware of that major trauma Shuu went through until then?? What? Did he just…not even ask about the scar? Did Shuu tell him it was an “accident” and he just accepted that and proceeded to ignore it? How could Shuu’s best friend not know anything about that battle?

And when Valt WAS aware of an Obvious Problem that Shuu had – the injured arm – he didn’t prevent Shuu from making it worse when he could have. Valt ACKNOWLEDGED that he could have kept Shuu from hurting himself further, because Valt WANTED to back out of that battle and not let Shuu fight him. And Valt does get some “Good Friend points” for that imo, but he also loses those points immediately because he folded and DIDN’T call off that battle…just because Shuu didn’t want him to. It shouldn’t have mattered that Shuu didn’t want him to refuse to battle him. It shouldn’t have mattered that Shuu got angry. The bottom line was that Shuu was hurting himself and was going to make it worse. [Like…would you let your best friend play in traffic just because they wanted to and got mad when you tried to stop them? Looks like maybe Valt would ._.] Valt enables Shuu’s self-destructive tendencies. The things that Shuu wants are DEFINITELY not necessarily things that will be good for Shuu, as Shuu proves by making bad [dangerous] decisions again and again.

Ah, and at this point I realize I need to explicitly clarify something because I’m noticing I keep wording it a little wrong: I’m saying Valt doesn’t realize when Shuu has a problem, but that’s actually nnnnot quite right? More accurately, it’s like Valt notices when something is bothering Shuu, but has NO IDEA how bad the problem actually is, because Valt 100% falls for it when Shuu tries to downplay his issues. When Shuu insists that he’s fine, Valt believes him and just thinks “Well, whatever’s wrong, Shuu can handle it”. So Valt knows that Shuu is agitated by things sometimes, but he is mistaking Shuu’s rapidly mounting Severe Emotional Trauma for just some relatively minor inconvenience that Shuu will probably get over fairly quickly. Valt doesn’t realize that things are FAR worse than Shuu is pretending they are. He doesn’t realize that Shuu is lying to him to minimize something that is actually overwhelmingly significant.

But…I think maybe, to a certain extent, Shuu likes that about Valt; how Valt doesn’t really try to stop him from making his bad decisions. Valt doesn’t try to talk to him about his problems. Valt is just like Shuu’s shitty absent parents in how he’ll just believe that Shuu’s got everything under control if Shuu SAYS he does. Shuu likes to pretend he’s fine when he’s actually suffering, and Valt makes that easy. It’s…almost like Valt will WILLFULLY IGNORE Shuu’s suffering so he doesn’t have to deal with it, presumably because he believes Shuu can deal with whatever it is just fine by himself. Because even when Valt CAN tell that something’s maybe Very Wrong, if Shuu says “It’s fine” then Valt will just accept that bullshit and stop worrying about it. Even in the rare instances when Valt IS aware that “I’m fine” is a lie, he still trusts Shuu to handle whatever the problem is anyway. It’s like looking at a person who is drowning and thinking “Nah, they must be fine” because they told you they know how to swim.

So this just creates, like…a snowball of toxic buildup. Shuu wants people to believe he is Strong and Independent and is always in control of things all the time, and Valt feeds into that unhealthy facade by totally going along with it. Valt doesn’t worry about Shuu enough, because Shuu doesn’t want him to. But Shuu NEEDS someone to worry about him. Valt’s not “trying not to be overbearing”, he’s just…flat-out not doing anything.

[Finally getting to that asterisk from way above…] {*}There are different ways to support someone; for example, passively supporting them without being “overbearing” could be just letting them vent to you, and then telling them you understand them and their feelings are valid [yeah, it’s cheesy but just letting someone know you don’t think they’re overreacting can be exactly what they need to hear more often than you’d think]. Valt actually had opportunities to do this…multiple times. The biggest example would be after Spriggan was broken by Lui; when Shuu and Valt were on the beach. That’s an awful scene.

…Alright, That Is Not Helpful. In fact, that’s gonna make Shuu feel WORSE. Valt totally just trivialized the way Shuu was feeling, he just moved on and continued being happy and cheerful. Like…imagine if your pet died, and you’re at your best friend’s house, you’re sitting in their room crying and grieving, and they’re cheerfully playing video games or something and not even listening to you [except to maybe occasionally turn around and ask “You done being sad yet? No? K, lmk when you get over it so you can come be player 2 and have fun with me over here”]

Now, this:

NO. Valt shouldn’t have let Shuu brush it off like that, but instead he gleefully allowed him to. Shuu needed to talk about that, or at the very least Valt needed to firmly state that it would be okay to talk to him if Shuu ever did want to talk about it [not ideal because Shuu would ofc probably reject the offer, but dammit it would’ve been something, instead of just “Oh, okay nvm he’s fine lol”. As soon as Shuu even slightly tried to play it off, Valt completely dropped the subject for good.]{**}.

Also, somewhat minorly:

…Meticulously fussing over taking care of Valkyrie while Shuu is holding his broken Spriggan in his pocket. After Shuu made it obvious that he feels like Spriggan breaking was his fault because he didn’t take better care of it. Aaaaand then in a minute Valt asks Shuu to hold Valkyrie…so he can run back out to play in the water again. Oh yeah, that totally wouldn’t sting at all. That’s not rubbing salt in the wound or anything. Man, this scene made me cringe. […Actually, this scene deserves its own entirely separate dissection post. I’ll work on that in a bit.]

{**}The thing is, I think Shuu does WANT to talk about his problems, naturally, but at the same time he doesn’t want to admit that he even HAS problems in the first place, and talking to people about them would of course be admitting to those people that those problems exist. So therefore he avoids talking about them. But there are brief moments, when Shuu is feeling particularly overwhelmed, that I think all of the pent-up frustration would just pour out if someone would only prod him about it a bit. When he is alone with somebody he trusts, and they don’t accept his lies about being “fine”, he would probably give in and spill his guts very quickly. [Dyna or Wakiya would probably be the most ideal for this, or possibly even Kensuke. Valt is too easy to lie to.]

Like, look at this. That’s a longing look. That’s a “I’m overwhelmed and overflowing with so many negative emotions right now that they are physically leaking out of my eyes” look. Shuu has things he does want to say. And Valt left him standing there alone.

Moving on to season 2 now…by the time Valt FINALLY realized that something was REALLY REALLY WRONG with Shuu, and that maybe Shuu couldn’t handle it, it was, uh, a little too late. Or a lot too late. Shuu Has Had Enough. Shuu’s so frustrated and angry that now Valt can’t just talk to him, because he’s so fixated on taking Direct Action against failing again that he won’t slow down long enough to listen. Shuu is also actively avoiding Valt now, for a reason that I’ve mentioned in another post {X}. [I won’t re-type that entire post here {parts of it were also purely hypothetical and thus irrelevant to this post}, but TL;DR, Shuu actually seemed to have a lot of pent-up resentment towards Valt for constantly outshining him. Valt did not notice this problem building up in time, due to his lack of proper communication with Shuu. Now, Shuu sees Valt as an obstacle that needs to be overcome, more than he sees him as a friend.]

So yeah, NOW Valt’s trying a little more earnestly to actually talk to Shuu. And I actually think I can gloss over a good amount of s2 [and thank god, because this post is already waaaay too long] and skip straight to the end of the season;

Regarding that final battle, [I don’t say this clearly enough sometimes because I keep mentioning it kind of offhandedly, but] I don’t think Valt simply yelling at him alone WAS what woke Shuu up, but I also don’t think it was the loss that did it either – I think it was a combination of both the iNCREDIBLE VOLUME and also what Valt was saying. Because people certainly do shout a lot during beybattles, but there seemed to be an ESPECIALLY prominent focus on the dialogue this time? Which is part of why I keep saying I’m a little confused by the final battle; because it’s not subbed yet and I don’t KNOW exactly what Valt was saying. But based on the couple of words I could pick out, and Valt’s facial expressions/body language, what I THINK he was saying was probably Generic Power-Of-Friendship Trope Stuff? Something like “I know you’re still in there somewhere!” or “I don’t know what happened to you but we’re still friends so calm down and let’s just be happy again! I forgive you and I believe in you!” And THAT’S what I don’t think should have worked. Because people tried repeatedly to throw Love And Friendship at Brainwashed Shuu, and he just tuned them out completely. Just turning up the volume shouldn’t have made quite such a dramatic difference, I think?

I think, realistically, the Magic Words that could have snapped Shuu out of it would’ve had to be something like…telling him that what he went through with Ashram was not worth it because it’s just okay to fail. It’s okay to fail, to learn from that mistake, and then just keep trying again until you understand the problem well enough to figure out how to get past it. Shuu didn’t need to go berserk and put himself through hell in the Snake Pit to make himself stronger, trying to ensure that he would never lose a battle again. It’s okay to lose and it doesn’t make him weak. Like…getting back up and persistently trying again after getting knocked down is what makes somebody strong. Tenacity. Refusal to fold and give up when faced with a challenge. NOT to try to make sure you will never have to feel challenged again at all. [Wakiya got over nearly this exact mindset. That’s why I say I think he’d be one of the best people to talk to Shuu about it {if Shuu would even let him}]

And I don’t think any of that is even remotely what Valt was shouting at Shuu, because I don’t think it was possible for Valt to say those things. Valt doesn’t have the faintest idea of what happened to Shuu in the Snake Pit, and, even further back than that, Valt doesn’t understand WHY Shuu went to the Snake Pit in the first place. So, not knowing what Valt said from behind the language barrier here, I’m just figuring whatever it was just Wasn’t Enough [or, shouldn’t have been enough]. [The whole finale felt a little rushed to me imo? The pacing in God was terrible overall and there were a lot of loose threads left hanging that will apparently never be addressed again :/ Well, at least the season sort of made up for the dodgy plot by introducing so many amazing characters]

And to cap off the post: I do think that, overall, Valt really does mean well. It’s just that he’s incredibly immature [even amongst his friends who are all also 11-13ish, Valt is still like “the baby” of the group] and is thus ultimately pretty self-centered. He’s not actively trying to hurt anybody though, he’d just prefer to not worry with the messier, more depressing parts of a friendship [bc he obviously doesn’t know HOW]. Unfortunately, Emotional Baggage is a package deal with Shuu, and it can’t be ignored without catastrophic results. And I’ve said that Valt and Shuu’s friendship is toxic, but it actually got that way because of Shuu, mostly; Shuu’s emotional state is a burning garbage fire, and Valt just carelessly fanned the flames instead of grabbing a water hose, if that makes sense. These two got fucked up mainly because of emotional issues that Shuu let fester for too long. And Shuu is likely as fucked up as he is primarily because of his neglectful parents, so, ultimately, I blame Shuu’s parents for this mess. [Well, I blame Lui too to some degree, but Lui’s torment wouldn’t have had such a profound effect on Shuu if Shuu had people to support him after it happened.]

Beat Dragon’s Dogma (well I say ‘beat’ but I essentially ignored a bunch of the sidequests that crop up just before and after you face Grigori and made a beeline for the Everfall). It’s easy to draw parallels for some of the ending choices between this game and Dark Souls: become Seneschal/linking the first flame or sacrificing your Beloved and be crowned as the new Duke/Lord of Hollows ending(the key difference is that Dragon’s Dogma makes a point to show this is a bad thing whereas in DS3, how good or bad it is is subjective). And then there’s the true ending wherein the Arisen breaks the cycle their world is stuck in. In terms of DS3, the equivalent could also be the Lord of Hollows ending or it could be the End of Fire ending (both of which I consider the ‘true’ endings, leaning more towards the End of Fire tho).

I enjoyed it enough to play several hours straight: really liked the character customization, the different classes, the soundtrack, and the LIs’ personal quests. The customization (and LIs, not gonna lie they were a p big draw) was what got me to buy the game and while I enjoyed the story enough, it isn’t the type of story that gets me too invested in the characters and their development or the plot. That being said, I still had a great time customizing a self-insert and having her kill a bunch of stuff and have npcs fawn over her.

And Aelinore OTL I think the first time I saw anything Dragon’s Dogma related a few years back was gifsets of her and when I read a little about her character I didn’t think I’d be into the whole ‘unfaithful unhappily married duchess’ part of her character but her intro scene (the music, the goddamn playful dialogue and the biggest lovestruck grin on your Arisen’s face) very firmly sealed the deal for me. (Beforehand I was gonna go for Quina but girl wants to be a magic nun, far be it for me to stop her, live ur dreams quina ; v ;) Like, yeah there’s the whole infactuation/in love with an idealization part of their relationship that’s a little eeehh :/ but my love of the ‘lady and her knight’ trope is too powerful. (There’s Mercedes who is a lady and a knight and she has a lovely French (Hearthstonian??) accent but I have a t y p e and I’m pretty fixed on that type lul) Not to mention the whole ‘sneaking into the castle to see her’ and ‘princess-carrying her out of captivity’ sidequests OTL As far as romance sidequests go this p much hit all my favorite cliches. (Selene’s also come p close but again, I have a t y p e.)

Really liked it, would probably play again (I mean, I already started NG+ and true to form, made literally the same character and will probably do literally everything the same and will probably definitely new marriage+ Aelinore OTL)

1. If you were a book character, what would you want to be like? I’d want to be braver and wittier than I am. Basically a nicer version of the Jack character, the lovable rogue for whom everything always works out.  

2. How do you like your coffee/tea?  I like my coffee sweet and light with real sugar and cream. It depends on the kind of tea, like I love roibos with sugar and milk, but I prefer jasmine and oolong straight.

3. What’s your favorite constellation?   Ahhhh….. it’s a toss up between Cassiopeia, because it helps me orient myself and I paid more attention to it because of DBSK, and Orion, because it’s easy to find and the non-Greek myths associated with it are really cool, like to the Egyptians it was Osiris.

4. What’s a trait you wish everyone had?  Compassion. I get really sick of people never taking a second to understand another person’s situation or feelings and show a little human kindness. Like the old lady who yells at a receptionist because they didn’t give her the right answer or the guy who makes a snide comment about a fast food worker being stupid if that’s the only job they can get. Grow the fuck up and be a human being.

5. What’s your favorite Fantasy Element/AU?  I’m not sure what you mean by fantasy element, so I’ll do AU. I do love a good werewolf au, cliche as it is, but I think elemental/natural magic aus are my absolute favorite(earth, air,water, fire, metal, etc).

6. Ideal morning?  Sleeping in til 8(preferably snuggled up with a special someone who’s not my dog lol), having a nice breakfast of porridge and fruit with tea and a good book, spending a few hours painting or writing, and then reading some more before lunch.

7. Favorite body part? Of mine or other people? I’d have to say in both cases it’d be eyes. My eyes look brown but they’re a dark hazel and sometimes they look green if I wear a shirt that color. Eyes can tell you a lot about a person, plus they’re really beautiful colors, and I tend to observe more anyway.

8. Favorite song by your bias group?  How am I supposed to even have 1 bias group let alone a song?! OTL. Ok, if I go with my bias groups, I’d say With You by BAP, Angel by EXO, Two! Three! (Hoping for more good days) by BTS, and Love Letter by VIXX. I can’t choose from my babies.

9. Favorite hobby?  Writing. I don’t know if I’d still be here honestly if I hadn’t started writing again just to get everything out.

10. How were you as a kid (elementary school)? Teacher’s pet, but also a lot more outgoing and loud when I was with my friends.

11. Weird, small trick you can do? (Raise both eyebrows, flare nostrils, etc)   Pick things up with my toes? Make an “o” with my tongue?

And now, a list of things I don’t like in rpg maker games I play.  I put it on here because honestly this is an opinions list and my taste gravitate differently than others so even if I don’t like it you can still find a good number of people who do.

For the most part, I honestly don’t like “cutesy horror games”.  You know, the ones here they’re cute on the outside but as you play the game it turns out everything’s secretly evil and then there’s blood everywhere.   they’re boring because I know the plot twist is coming and I feet like they’re using the cuteness as a lazy way to get a scare out of the player.  They usually just do it for the shock value and/or aesthetic of it all instead of making it a part of the game’s major themes or message.  That’s not my style man.

I don’t like most rpg maker horror games where the main antagonist is a ghost either.  those are a dime a dozen and are really predictable: someone innocent died & came back as a ghost for revenge and now everyone’s dying one by one who gives a shit.  the laziest way to make an rpg horror villian bc all you have to do is hit transparency on the sprite and add blood on it and boom fuck you it’s a ghost.  out of all the games I’ve played so far (havent played corpse party yet) Misao is the exception because it’s hilarious

i don’t like it when I try and play an RPG and then the combat goes off fucking kilter because the developer(s) didn’t balance it out.  like at least make the combat easy and dumb rather than “suddenly shit hits the fan” i didn’t ask for this let me enjoy the damn game in peace.

I also don’t like it when I can just wail my way through a game with like 1 technique and there’s no challenge at all.  I’ll be lenient if I’m enjoying the plot or the rest of the game, otherwise it’s just boring.

I don’t like games that try too hard to be deep and just come out as pretentious, condescending, vapid, and/or edgelordy.   That’s an issue that spans all genres and all kinds of media, really, but i’m putting it here anyway.  These usually come out from writers that don’t have much experience writing complex issues so they bungle up what they want to say, or only have a cursory knowledge of what they’re talking about (like morality, mental illness, abuse, grief, etc.) and thus make a shallow game around it.  It pains me to see it because it’s the one thing that makes me vile towards games - and I don’t like being vile towards someone’s pet project unless they really deserve it (i.e. they are a huge douchebag.  

If i never see a boulder puzzle or “make this side of the room match the other side of the room” puzzle again i would cry a tear of joy and high five everyone in the room good job good job

i don’t really like “anime” horror games.  You know, the ones where they have a lot of anime tropes & cliches in the game because they like anime?  That’s cool and all and I’m glad they’re following your passion, but it’s really not my cup of tea.  I do enjoy some anime cliche games but not as many as you’d think.

I’m not a fan of RPGs made in RPG Maker with default RTP graphics.  It’s not the games themselves, I just really hate the RTP Styles for the most part OTL

games where i have to run around from place to place getting like 1 minute of cutscene vs 10 minutes of tedious puzzles.  

if I never see an rpg horror based upon dark fairy tales again it would be too soon.  Actually, if I never saw a dark fairytales stories in anything ever again i would be really happy and cheer in the streets.   The thing is that most Dark Fairytales are just that: dark retellings of familiar tales.  They don’t explore anything with the concept, they just rehash and use it as a lazy stock horror thing.  There are good ones of course (Alice Mare comes to mind) but gosh there aren’t as many as the bad/bland ones

anytime the author expresses that the main character is their preferred type of boy/girl/etc romantically or have an obsession with that type of character i get particularly uncomfortable because wHOAH bro I did not  need to know that my dude.  sure they’re can still have that character type in there but i just don’t want to know how much you love/obsess over that type of thing.  it’s a little uncomfortable to know i’m playing as someone’s fetish eugh (to clarify: if it’s fetish-y i don’t like it, not just someone loves this character type so much)

I don’t like games that have really cocky villains in them that are way too powerful for their own good (FUCK YOU SAL).  Actually, extend that to any cute child/teen character who does that “slasher smile” and teases the protagonist fuck them get out of here you little brats I don’t take shit from poorly written children.  they’re some of the least scary things because i’m like 5′2″ and even i can kick them in their tiny little shins fuckin’ demon munchkins fuck them (and fuck their sunglasses too!!!)

I hate most bullshitty puzzles (like that skull puzzle in the witch’s house).  Like, my ass will give up if I can’t figure out the puzzle in less than 3 tries.  I’m the kind of player who will play an adventure game just to enjoy the story, so I’ll look up walkthroughs online just to get through them.  If the story isn’t that good I’ll just give up then and there.  Same if I can’t find a walkthrough.  I hate things like that and I am weak af. 

i’m not fond of len kagamine clones.  just as a design kind of thing.  i’ve seen one too many len kagamine fangirls man, one too many @-@

I don’t like adventure games with forced moral choices when there’s obviously another way to solve the puzzle instead of having to choose one of the choices the game gives you.  that’s just bad writing/game design and not as much a preference thing.  It’s even worse when you combine it with the above to make the player character feel weak because it feels like that shallow game thing I talked about earlier my goodness does it make me want to kick someone in the johnnies son

protagonist that are pure and innocent children that go through hell tend to rub me the wrong way but there’s a few good examples in the horror genre.   ...not a whole bunch of them, but some here and there.  either they’re boring protagonist, a lazy way to make a statement, or borderline fetishy which is the worst (fortunately the least common).

Hi so i am feeling a bit lonely lately and i was wondering if you can give me some advice? So the thing is i;ve always been extremely shy and i have anxiety so talking to people has always been hard for me because i am always scared of saying the wrong thing or if they think that i am annoying ect.. So i only have like one real friend and she is awesome n i love her sm but shes making other friends and i feel like we've been drifting apart lately n it really hurts because if we stopped being 1/2

2/2 friends i would have no one. And the thing is i want to make friends but its hard and i dont know how i am just soso scared and i feel like people already have a bad impression of me and i dont know how to change it ;_; Do u have the smallest bit of advice on how to make friends?

Alright so as a person who has both shyness and anxiety and has learned the difference of when I’m feeling one or the other ... I would say that the feeling you have that others have a bad impression is just the anxiety talking. That both helps and doesn’t help: it doesn’t make the anxiety go away, but at least you know that in reality, it is probably not the case, and it can be a big encouragement! The fear is also a part of the anxiety; fear of rejection, fear of loneliness, fear of .... anything-bad-happening-socially-that-will-make-me-not-want-to-do-anything-again ... as I like to think of it. So on that front: breathe. Try doing the slow 10-counts (slowly inhale and exhale, and that is a “one” count) and telling yourself that you are just as worthy of having friends as much as other people, that you matter, and that your personality is not bad. Everyone else does not have a bad impression on you; they probably are curious to know more about you since you’re not around them so much! So you get to help solve the mystery... to satisfy their curiosity. ^^ (I swear even if it helps only a little bit, it can be super helpful to be another voice saying positive things to yourself rather than the fear and anxiety being the lone voices).

Now on advice for friends in general! This is both from experience and therapists’ and psychologists’ research, but you should not stick to only one friend! You need a support system of at least 3 good friends. ^^;; As a more immediate and relevant impact, you will be far less likely to feel left out or like you have nothing to do if one  friend is busy with their other friends. Those friends can also help you make other friends given their friend groups, and so on. So how does one make more friends? Well this is pretty tired and cliche, but seriously: be yourself! If the people you are trying to be friends with are neurodivergent (using the term perhaps loosely) as well, or are sensitive and considerate to neurodivergent people, and you feel panicky or really uneasy when trying to talk to them, just tell them! “Hey I’m sorry that I’m stuttering / quiet / not talking much / etc, I think my social anxiety is acting up,” or something to that effect. If they are as I described, they’ll be totally cool with it and be warm, open, inviting, helpful and encouraging, and hey you might get a response like “hey I have anxiety too!” or another confession of neurodivergence. That commonality you share could be a stepping stone for friendship (I did that quite a lot actually!), making things much smoother for you. If you feel the other person is not so sensitive to or doesn’t understand mental illness or neurodivergence, then just say “something-something-flattering, so you’re making me shy” and later on you can have the conversation about what it means to have anxiety and how it affects you in particular (I don’t recommend it as an early convo with people you’re trying to make friends with because ... idk I’m just cautious who I open up to).

Oh and in general, just try to find out what the other person likes, does, is interested in, and make the conversation about them. If they’re not really reciprocating (returning the questions you ask about them) try to insert a contrast or similarity with yourself in the conversation! So an ideal start would be:

 “What kind of classes do you take? (other person responds) oh wow! that sounds so cool! / I haven’t heard of that class; what’s it about? (other person responds; asks if you know anything about y or z subject at all) yes I took a class like that before / no that’s totally new / yeah I actually want to research something like that !” etc |||||||| If the other person doesn’t ask you too much about whether you know anything about what they study, ask “oh is that similar to y? (if not: oh I asked because I know a bit about y) How long have you been interested in x? what [hobby? sport?] did you do? I did a, b c” those types of things. 

I’ve managed to really focus on the conversation aspect and sometimes been super panicky underneath the surface of demonstrating that I really wanted to know more about them and see how they were doing, where their lives were going... Despite the feeling of impending doom, I do manage to make friends, so I hope you can have the same happen for you ^^ sorry that this is so long, I’m trying to cover many different bases here otl .-.
