you know its clear that the geniune revelation mv is supposed to take place in the past because they used tsumugis old hair and no glasses whereas eccentric party night DOESNT change kanatas hair so its implied it takes place in the present (rei's hair is in his old style, but it doesnt change lengths so he couldve just styled it and same w wataru)
but they also take place on the same stage so it would be really funny if they didnt change tsumugi and implied that one of the four of them was like hey worsties ^_^ wanna get together one more time for funsies~? and somehow got the rest of them to agree
#cryn rambles#enstars#they also coul dhave just fucked up and forgot to give kanata his long hair. but personally i am choosing to believe#that the eccentrics got back together and did a little show together and that theyre still bestfriends who love eachother dearly#thank you#these things take like 8 months to make right?? theres no way theyd forget that#no it definitely is present day

@byjoveimbeinghumble replied to your post: mai choosing zuko over azula is entirely about...
You’ve been in this fandom longer so I must respect this but I don’t understand it at all
i have a couple of points here!! you just woke me up bc i was starting to doze in an armchair to atla closing music. anyway here we go:
1. Azula’s mother favors Zuko over her. She talks about this in a very dismissive manner in the Beach episode, but it’s clear that this actually has a pretty negative impact on her. She likes Zuko when he’s in his proper place, beneath her, and when she is assured of her father’s favor of her over him. Her friends choosing Zuko over her exploits the exact insecurity she has that begins her breakdown. This scene waters that seed so that it’s already in her mind when Ozai tells her to stay behind--she shouts he can’t treat her like Zuko. This is her worst fear, and it started again with Mai. She can’t trust her friends to choose her, so she can’t trust anyone. Fear is the only reliable way.
2. Mai and Zuko have a weird relationship. I’ve talked about it before, but they rarely seem to like each other and frequently are actively antagonistic towards each other. I don’t think either of them are bad people, but I do think they are bad to each other and fundamentally incompatible. (my petty zutara-lens take is that bryke tried to write opposites attract relationship w/ zuko to deter zutara shippers but jokes on them they were Bad At It). they frequently invalidate each others’ feelings, rarely get along, and even when they try to be supportive of each other, are not able to do so in a way that the other actually needs
3. Zuko has just dumped Mai and approx 2 seconds before Mai betrays Azula, Mai was still upset about this. There’s no resolution--Zuko tries to explain he’s helping his country, but Mai is not swayed. Mai tells him he is betraying his country (this is interesting because it’s the most Mai has ever cared about like....patriotism or politics or y’know literally anything). Then Zuko locks her in a cell and leaves her behind. They have resolved nothing, discussed nothing, and are still, explicitly, broken up.
4. The gaang needs a rescue from Azula or they will not escape the prison! Lo and behold, a mysterious rescuer comes! It’s Mai! What is she doing? Azula asks. What indeed. Mai has apparently done some offscreen introspection and soul-searching and decided that she is a) not hurt by zuko, despite noting several times he ripped her heart out b) in fact, loves zuko and is c) willing to choose him over her best friend, her country, and her entire life. To me, this works towards the general way the writer’s refuse to show female characters changing their minds about the boys in their lives or developing their feelings and relationships because it’s convenient to plot.
5. I actually think the writers could have made this work if they’d put some more effort in. I’ve been critical about the portrayal of zuko and mai’s relationship in previous episodes; i don’t think they work well as a couple how the show wrote them and think you could cut mai out of zuko’s life entirely without any change to his arc, personality, and other relationships. I think Mai is pretty underdeveloped as a character, though she’s cool and coul dhave a lot of potential. I’ve presented my criticism of this episode here. but the writers needed a deeply personal betrayal for Azula, they needed someone else to choose her brother over her, like her mother had, and this was the best set-up they had given themselves. It was never about Mai or Maiko--it was always about Azula and Zuko
#katie talks to people#atla#zuko#mai#long post#anti-maiko#i'm not as good at analysis as other ppl (cough catie) but here we are#byjoveimbeinghumble

when even the true ending isn’t true enough….
[lakjgdlaj
i accidentally missed like two new ones that they added to the game so when i finished the game LAST NIGHT two of the characters that are like ur ‘guides’ were basically ‘uhm u forgot to do somethings go back and do some shit again’.
SO WHEN I COMPLETED THE TWO QUESTS and fought the ‘final boss’ again and got the ending i was accustomed to THE SAME TWO CHARACTERS APPEARED AGAIN AND WERE JUST ‘yeah but there’s ANOTHER WAY THAT THIS COUL DHAVE BEEN DONE’
and i was just
‘....i wanna see the credits come on..............’]

thoughts. abt death note and intelligence
d=eathnote doesnt portray intelligence the capitalistic way i initially thought it did.
Light's backstory is that he is the top student in all of Japan/L is the smartest detective in the world. We start off with an impression that inelligence is the most important value to show. (But there's nuance!!)
We have the ranking system at Wammy's, which is used to test genii little kids (I don't have a ton of confidence in this type of thing from my experience with testing and my understanding of bias in IQ Testing) ...we don't know how exactly the test works, but is used to test kids for skill equivalent to L's.
Having a ranking system for kid's intelligence is such an awful idea to begin with. Especially if they are aware of the rank. Its inhumane and leads them to beleive their worth is based on their intelligence output. (NOT UNLIKE THE MFKING AMERRICAN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM) but anyways...
So already the show is centering reasoning ability/intelligence as a value for these kids. (And I think it's fair to say that as a result, other values are deprioritized, like social/emotional intelligence (for example L talks about being childish and wanting to win))
And we see that intelligence increased a characters audience perceived standing on a surface level basis, since on first look, intelligence is what moves the plot.....!
But! While reasoning ability DOES impact a characters importance/value to the show, social intelligence/ a lack of reasoning ability DOES NOT.
Which is fucking WEIRD, but if we go back to L for a second, he has. no social intelligence. Like. My man doesn't wear shoes. He wiggles his toes around and in general is a weird ass dude. But he's essential to the show, and his lack of social skills/presentation is overlooked by fellow characters and the audience, in favor of his smart lil brain.
There's also Misa, who has high social intelligence but low reasoning skills (i personally think she has average intelligence, im just comparing her relatively, and on their weird-and-makes-no-sense intelligence scale). She is loved as an idol, but treated as a dumbass by the detectives. For her, whatt i have seen is that her high social intelligence is overlooked by her lack of intellectual (?) intelligence... And yet Misa makes huuuuge contributions to the plot, and in general is a very important character.
the only time i felt there was real depth of conversation was towards the end when L was about to die and it was raining, where light and L talk more metaphoircally and abstractly with each other, and we see social intelligence. this was a key moment where we saw characterr to character interaction not based around reasoning, but as a casual setting.
since these ttypes of conceptual, abstract scenes are the minority in this show, its clear that the back and forth of l/lights tthought process is really the central value. idk. i think its kinda stupid and they coul dhave added much more depth to the characters.
I think that the decision to highlight intelligence is definetley what makes it deathnote. so yk. it is what it is. but also, they could have handled the treeatment of "less smart" characters with more care. they could have gone deeper into the emotional effect of these decisions.
not to mention the social interactions between characters... the ahllucinations that L experienced beofre deatth were just. so well done. and because of the staunchness of the est of thte show. those moments were sort of coveted and craved. idk. maybe thats a goood thing? who knows.
im also not going to discount the small funny moments in the show. like where L is beig especially awkward or creepy, i think those scenes give LIFE.
But I wish they had more respect for misa and didnt fuckiung rruin her towards the end.
I don know if this makes any fuckin sense. If anyone has additional thoughts realted to this let me know!!
#really not sure if i wanna tag this but fuck it#death note#light yagami#l death note#l lawlight#misa amane
