Yesterday my German coworker yelled at me because she firmly believes no world religion can know anything, for sure, about God, so there’s no way to call anyone “right” or “wrong.”
And it took all my strength not to say, “so you’re saying I’m wrong”
because truth in love, truth in love
But seriously. What actually is the deal with the discourse that goes: “you can’t know anything for sure about God.”
“Wait, yes you can, like I know you well enough to know for sure that you’re from ____ Place—“
“—no no, no, that’s different. This is about God.”
“How’s it different?”
“You can’t say someone’s wrong about God.”
“…Well, can I say anything that’s wrong about you? Like, if I say, ‘_____ Person likes to kick puppies,’ can’t you say I’m wrong about you?”
“Yes but I’m not God.”
“Right, but you’re a real person who exists, so there are some things that I can know for sure about you—“
“THAT’S DIFFERENT”
No it’s not! It’s not ‘different.’ Quit acting like it’s different. Christians don’t believe in a set of ideals or the properties of rocks or some mystical vibe that nobody can be right or wrong about. We believe in a living and existing deity with an unchanging, eternally constant personality, and will, and DESIGN, outside of ourselves. So we can be wrong about Him. You can be wrong about Him. Everyone can be wrong—OR RIGHT—about Him, because He actually exists.
He’s not some imaginary friend who’s open to anybody’s interpretation. You get to claim an independent identity, character traits, and a personal history, but the God of the universe doesn’t? What is happening?
I’ll tell you what’s happening. You’re fine with me believing in an imaginary figment that’s only real to me, but as soon as He starts having an effect on the outer world, as if He actually exists and you have to start making some decisions based on that fact, THEN you’re not fine.
#Christianity#evangelism#discourse#it’s not profitable to talk about this with the person who keeps repeating themselves in person#so you all get to read about it here instead#because they’re not actually open#and nobody ever got “argued” into heaven#evangelical Christianity#organized religion#rationality#reason#reasonableness

I certainly didn’t see this being on my 2023 bingo card.
Edit: Ya’ll this meme above isn’t accurate anymore since other messages from the group came out. I made this meme when the first initial message came out.
The meme down below is more correct as to what’s probably happening with Ao3. Also wanted to say that despite the name of group, the people behind it are probably Russians.
Edit: July 11th, So Ao3 is back! Though the donation link is being attacked now. There’s also a second account on Twitter trying to impersonate Ao3.
#a03#fanfic#fanfiction#supernatural#ao3#hackers#anonymous Sudan#lgbt#ao3 smut#the disgusting smuts were the hackers words#like so what?#you can’t handle our noncon dubcon omegaverse angst mpreg smuts#go read fifty shades of grey then. it’s not our fault you can’t handle us#also the fact they called it disgusting smuts implies that they had to have went to ao3 and read smut on there#Edit: they just released a statement saying they want 30k in US dollars in bitcoin for the ao3 servers#i reblogged that statement twice I believe#and to hold a non profit organization as a virtual hostage?#really#like they’d have better luck holding Wattpad for hostage

From their inception, foundations focused on research and dissemination of information designed ostensibly to ameliorate social issues--in a manner, however, that did not challenge capitalism. For instance, in 1913, Colorado miners went on strike against Colorado Fuel and Iron, an enterprise of which 40 percent was owned by Rockefeller. Eventually, this strike erupted into open warfare, with the Colorado militia murdering several strikers during the Ludlow Massacre of April 20, 1914. During that same time, Jerome Greene, the Rockefeller Foundation secretary, identified research and information to quiet social and political unrest as a foundation priority. The rationale behind this strategy was that while individual workers deserved social relief, organized workers in the form of unions were a threat to society. So the Rockefeller Foundation heavily advertised its relief work for individual workers while at the same time promoting a pro-Rockefeller spin to the massacre. For instance, it sponsored speakers to claim that no massacre has happened and tried to block the publication of reports that were critical of Rockefeller. According to Frederick Gates, who helped run the Rockefeller Foundation, the "danger is not the combination of capital, it is not the Mexican situation, it is the labor monopoly; and the danger of the labor monopoly lies in its use of armed force, its organized and deliberate war on society."

Hello! If anyone's got any money to spare, this cat shelter in Brazil is in desperate need of donations - on risk of having to stop their work.
People constantly leave abandoned cats on their building and they need almost 10.000 reais ( About 2k USD) to keep going.
If anyone's capable of donating they have a Paypal ! (If the link doesnt work, their paypal is [email protected] )
Anything helps!

Watching Ravenous (1999) in winter...while located in a barrack cabin in the middle of the woods in former WWII POW work camp..AND with people who have never seen nor even heard of the movie....AND while devouring massive quantities of potato pancakes with bacon... is truly an experience.
#ravenous#i was waiting for a perfect moment to rewatch the movie#n this was great#puts it on the list of of my top movie watching experiences#gotta love that one of my fav winter retreat locations is a damned WWII POW work camp#not literally damned#its just a place#really nice actually except some of the architectural remnants#and the knowledge of history#the whole area is a “Town of non-profit organizations” now#i might have talked about it already#watched the shining there few years ago#also evil dead 1 and 2

Reframing common employer phrases into plainspeak
Laziness = poor ppl resting/playing, ever
Working vacation = rich ppl getting paid to rest/play
Rage applying = looking for a better job
Rage quitting = leaving toxic job/boss
Quiet quitting = refusing to do free labor
Blackmail = employees leveraging anything
Insubordination = talking about pay at work
Company culture = guilt trips & pizza as pay
Morality clause = make us look bad, get fired
"We're like family" = "we ask for favors, then never pay you back"
"We expect everyone to pitch in" = "we expect you to do free labor"
"HR is here to help you" = "HR is here to stop you from suing us"
Thx for coming to my TedTalk

The Morning After Series: Chapter 2
Why I'm Mad at Debt Buyers
The second installment of The Morning After Series focuses on the topic of an older episode of John Oliver's Last Week Tonight: Debt Buyers!
Now, not everyone may know what debt buying is, but reading this article is certain to show you why you should be just as mad as me, and give you the solution.
An excerpt:
"I know and love people who require a great deal of healthcare to survive. I have racked up a fair amount of bills in my short lifetime. The idea of medical debt is not new to me and has always been a threat. Debt buyers — strangers who essentially buy the suffering of others and then extort them for profit — made me so mad I didn’t know what to do with myself."

So I saw a post floating about questioning the intentions behind Jaskier’s sexuality in S3, and I want to kindly remind everyone that respectful queer representation in media is still sorely lacking and so damn important (perhaps now more than ever) no matter its intentions, and Joey and Hugh handled it beautifully.
#no hate whatsoever but like I said#it may have been for profit but ultimately it was well-handled and respectful#which makes it more than a cash grab cause they could have been just like WOOP THE BARD IS GAY#but they didn’t they made jaskier and radovid’s relationship organic and believable#they didn’t make a mockery and I thought it was so beautifully done#don’t complain about queer representation in media we don’t have enough of it#jaskier#radovid#jaskier/radovid#the witcher#the witcher netflix#the witcher season 3#personal#ramblings
