wilson i think if you told him he could pick anything in the world, he'd pick ants. but specifically, zombified cordyseps ants, as soon as he could figure out how to keep them. his inner child would tell him to blurt out dragon or parrot though (he's always wanted to be a pirate). he has a way with being extremely unlikable to animals most of the time though, so his ideal pet is ultimately chester.

1. The answer for both of them is the same cuz I wasn't a TMNT fan till rise (whoops). I got into rise around early October, so 4-5 months ago?

How weird is that the first thought I had after seeing clickers in action (thru my friend stream) was:

Then I looked up if cordyseps are edible and analyzeid possible ways of neutralizing infection risk. Cordyseps are edible, or at least are eaten by people, so that cheeks out. Since fungi is more resilient to heat, maybe soaking in vinegar or salt would help? I much prefer fresh ones but that also wouldn't be bad.

And then friend shows up with his ,,ethicality" and ,,cannibalism bad" and ruins the fun ;\

Hey, I need some help from the overqualified side of Tumblr, more specifically the mycologists. We all know cordyseps, the really famous zombie one. I vaguely remember a fact where one type of microorganism/fungus activately hunts the former fungus, and some ants rub the hunter on themselves. Is this true, and if so, what is its name?

Some lore under the cut (sorry if the writing is odd, I'm kinda doing this for the first time)

The Sporeborn was an experiment with a particular fungus a relative to cordyseps the iterator created, to see what would happen, if the infected creature got flooded with void fluid. To hopefully counteract the infestation of this fungus. The end product was, that the sporeborn was somewhat "reborn" and left.

The Sporeborn has a resistance to the infectious fungus that surround the iterator. He is an insectivore.

The Ghostseer is a scavenger with the strange ability of seeing "ghosts" or "lesser" echoes of past creatures. They were separated from her parents and was found by Spore, who took them in like a pup.

there was nothing out of the ordinary with her childhood. her family always said she had a dream too big for her own good. the jins were good with knives and pans, not papers and pens, or so dosoo was told. a small quip would end up in a full-blown argument with her parents and dosoo would find herself by the coast of sindeok beach, thinking that this, gutting fish and mollusks, was all she was good for. it took years of arguments and even longer years of small talks over dinner that her family finally relented. her cousins still thought she was doing all of this so she didn’t have to deal with fish anymore (the words rang true but dosoo wasn’t about to let her intention known) when she brought her diploma home, the first in her family, all the jeers stopped.

during her time in college, dosoo had grown exceptionally close to her supervisor, professor yang jeongmi. dosoo was made known of professor yang’s background which bore striking similarities to hers: the odd one in a family that didn’t value education as much as they did with an unwavering devotion to their dreams. professor yang saw herself in dosoo, she confessed as much, and dosoo, longing for someone who understood her, latched onto her. dosoo came home less and less; there was always something to be done around professor yang and the disappointment on her face when dosoo told her she wouldn’t be coming wasn’t worth the constant nagging her mother gave her.

dosoo got married to someone professor yang introduced her to. lim jungha was a colleague before anything else; they worked together several times but there was no budding romance between them, no matter how hard professor yang insisted that asst. prof. lim was head over heels for her (perhaps he was; dosoo was too preoccupied with her papers to see it). her family liked asst. prof. lim, her mother especially so; it was the only thing she shared with professor yang. she got to know asst. prof. lim (jungha, he insisted) and life went on. the marriage, after all, was proven to be beneficial for both of them.

dosoo first heard of the cordyseps from professor yang. both dosoo and jungha were among the scientists who worked to observe the mutation. their objectives changed when the infection reached korean peninsula; alongside kdrt, they worked to contain the infection and, to some selected scientists, find a cure. some days, dosoo managed to keep her zen; their laboratory was isolated from the outside world with first-grade protection against the infected. 

the day dosoo received a call from her mother was the day her peace shattered. the infected had reached yeosu and with the elderly making up the majority of her family, they were as good as immobilized. help us, my daughter, her mother had said, but dosoo wasn’t moved. in the end, it was jungha who persuaded her to contact the kdrt to provide transport for her family.

the request was denied. despite being the lead researcher in their project, the kdrt held no respect for her and her family and, for the first time, dosoo wondered who they worked to find the cure for when it was clear that the kdrt held zero compassion for the survivors. professor yang remained tightlipped and unwilling to pull any strings to keep dosoo’s family safe. it was jungha, always jungha, who sneaked her out of the laboratory but was unable to follow because he couldn’t abandon his post. dosoo didn’t call him a coward, not to his face anyway, but she promised to return once she saw her family in safety.

splatters of blood on the wall welcomed her. aunt misook, with her bright eyes turned glassy greeted her by the front door and dosoo ran, ran, ran. she ran and she hid, the two things she realized she was best at, and made a call to jungha, only to hear that the laboratory had been compromised and he, too, was on the run. they had the kdrt, in the beginning, but they had no one now. it was only then dosoo realized that the organization was never their ally.

fireflies was everything she stood against. dosoo was told that they were a group of terrorist, yet whatever their causes were, it was the better option compared to the kdrt. so she ran until she found the spraypainted logo and camped around there for days, waiting for someone, anyone, to come and find her. perhaps, this way, dosoo could finally have the resources to find jungha and whatever left from her family.

Okay so, Cordyseps is the infection in TLOU that right now affects ants by taking over there body but some people think that the ants mind is still intact which means that the ant knows what’s happening but can’t control it. The infection spreads through flour in the show which I will focus on right now but I will a separate post on the game which I have played. In episode 1 there is mentions of Jakarta which is where the largest flour mill in the world and where the first person affected backed by episode 2. What lots of people don’t notice is that addition to flour in food products that is already a threat flour is also found in dog, cat, and bird food which means animals can also be infected. Not including the food in garbage cans that animals also eat. Which means 2 things, 1 Animals are immune to this virus which is highly unlikely, 2 there is a world out there of animals that don’t know what’s going on getting infected that also poses a big problem because that people also kill those animals and might eat them which will pass them the virus. When the food without flour ends they will have to go hunting which means they might get the virus just trying to stay alive. That’s my Ted Talk
