Ok REALLY out there idea, but like Peter with the symbiote falling into the DC universe, but getting thrown through realities completely fucks up the symbiote (venom? Idk if I could do that to the Silly Guy™️)

So when they crash land the symbiote is like totally NOT the same, and is effectively a zombie virus/symbiote and just. Completely Fucks the DC universe, and Peter's the only one immune bc he was kinda there when that happened right

truly i think what we need and DESERVE is a modern venom comic that matches the energy of the hunger in terms of going all in on both romance and horror. there's no need for there to be a conflict between "venom is a love story" and "venom is dark and fucked up and scary" when at its best venom is both at the same time. and furthermore venom isn't scary because of some boring "agh evil alien in my brain" bullshit possession conflict, venom is scariest when there ISN'T any conflict. venom is scary BECAUSE eddie and the symbiote love each other and encourage each other's worst impulses. the romance and the horror come from the same place. if you don't understand this you will not write good venom comics

ok i finally got to watching the spider-man 2 gameplay and wow……. (spoilers btw)

first of all my previous post about parksborn was spot ON we’re gonna get soooo many gay moments but harry’s prob gonna die or something… harry also dresses gay lol

and secondly from dialogue we can tell that harry knows peter’s identity.. which differs them from a LOT of other peter and harrys. this might help them hate eachother less? (copium) we can also tell from what the commentator was saying is that peter’s trying to get the cure for harry’s disease, which eliminates the theory of the symbiote possibility splitting between harry and peter (which i didn’t believe anyways) but now i’m thinking, does harry become venom before or after peter has the suit? i personally think after BUT it kinda looks like the symbiote suit is in a lot of the game, and what makes harry snap as well? does peter not get the cure from doc connors? i am actually so hyped but also SO SCARED. harry enjoyers rarely win and this game doesn’t spare so i doubt we’ll get a good ending (sobs)

and lastly, miles’ storyline. i don’t have much to say because we don’t know much BUT i’m so excited for the mr. negative stuff!!! i NEED miles to get some sweet revenge,,, even though we know the end of that will probably be like ooo spider-man can’t kill so he should be spared ooo BUT WE ALSO KNOW that this game will be amazing so hopefully that plot doesn’t end like that.. i’m also excited to see miles juggle his school life friend life and spidey life AND i’m also excited about the spiderverse(?) side quest :D

Spectacular Spiderman's One Symbiote Flaw: Venom

I want to be clear here: Spectacular Spiderman's version of the symbiote story is great. The stakes, the pathos, almost everything to do with Peter, except maybe pacing, is phenomenal. OSP recently talked about it and praised it for good reason.

But I want to quickly talk about Eddie Brock: Aka, the person who becomes Venom. See, part of the goal with most classic interpretations of the black suit need for Peter's rise in arrogance to also come with a fall of Eddie Brock. To put Eddie in a position to want to kill both Peter and Spidey once he gets the symbiote. The original story did this by having him be a Bugle photographer who faked photos and that worked well enough. He had no personal connection to Peter.

It's more complicated in Spectacular which SHOULD make it more effective. The problem is that Eddie hasn't been around for most of six episodes. The last two major times we see him is as Gwen's date to the formal where he disapproves of Peter theoretically having lied to Gwen and then before that, him getting pissed, and then asking for space, after Peter took photos of the Lizard, having seemingly abandoned Dr. Connors for the sake of money. These moments put tension between two people who see each other as brothers because their parents died in the same plane accident and they have had each other since childhood. That is sad and tasty narratively but Eddie hasn't really done anything about this. We've seen anger from him but he's seemed like a real person which is one of the strengths of Spectacular.

That means Peter needs to do something reprehensible... and he does. Before literally ever coming into contact with the Symbiote. Because of pure science fervor and a dash of greed, he goes to Dr. Connor's lab to get photos of the symbiote. Without permission. In fact, not just without permission. With a specific reminder that his friends are still kind of pissed about him for prioritizing photos and cash over them. Yes, this Peter is a teenager and they embrace that but this isn't being a teenager. This is being an asshole.

And then they go hardcore on Eddie. He writes Peter off as a user which... Fair at that moment but then uses Mary Jane to get back at him while risking both of their lives and putting people into danger while he's gunning it through traffic on his motorcycle. This isn't ANYWHERE close to the Eddie we've literally ever seen. Just a complete douchebag, complete with making his voice gruffer and more sinister like he's already a supervillain and that's BEFORE he loses his job and Peter writes him off.

And so when Eddie gains the symbiote, it isn't as tragic or satisfying as it should be because paradoxically, the good writing of the series as a whole means you're likely to be sitting here and asking questions as to why this is how things went down. You're not feeling like these are the characters or your sympathies are kind of skewed.

That doesn't stop the arc from being a great season finale that also feels prepared to have been a series finale, it still does it quite well... But it's a bad after taste. Like a drop of something bad was added to your favorite drink. Not enough to hurt you but enough to make it taste slightly wrong.

And that's a real shame for what otherwise is a very good arc.

THE SILENA POST THE WORLD HAS BEEN WAITNG FOR !!

Silena is a semi main character and if she was in an official comic run, she would be the main character for a good stack of volumes.

At the start of her story, Silena is 14. A sophomore in Highschool and has a decent group of friends including Gwen, MJ, (Melis Jane) , Percy (Percy Parker), and Hazel Osborne .

She gets her mysterio powers while on a history class field trip where both her and Percy get their powers, Percy is blessed by a spider god while Silena basically has a whole magic necklace (later revealed to be a fragment of a reality stone) (this is also canon btw it’s canon every verse has its own set of stones)

Silena being the over imaginative , artsy,

fantasy and magical girl obsessed nerd she is , decides to use her powers for good and becomes “Mysteria”

It’s rather rocky at first , navigating how to use the stone, not getting flattened by villains, etc. her and Percy reveal their identities to another and grow closer as friends.

Percy has a few things happen to him as well such as MJ (his gf) being completely replaced by a chameleon from another universe .

While Percy is busy, he ignores a mugging (which happens to be Silenas dad , Quentin Beck) thinking the police can deal with it.

Silena finds her dad and thinks he’s dead. (dw he is not)

Silena , being immature and this being a “with great power comes great responsibility “ moment for Percy and Silena, Both see it in different ways .

Silena sees it as a way of revenge

Percy sees it as a way to do better.

A fight breaks out between the two (and by fight I mean fist fight.) and the two reconcile . Which is shortly interrupted by Swarm. (Also no. He is not a Nazi. I’m Jew/Romani. Why tf would I make that apart of his character) and Percy gets the “NO NOT THE BEES” treatment. (Sorry Perc, at least you and MJ can chill together in the after life)

Silena now alone , SMITES SWARM. Or tries to but it flees . Later he is defeated. This catches the eye of silvermane who “takes silena under her wing” aka. Straight up

manipulates her and makes her life straight up hell.

Brief interlude of Villains like Shocker, Rhino, Chamelon (the real one not the other universe one Dr strange killed that one) Black cat, and Wolfmann

Also a breif romance between Molten girl (liz Allen) but it ends up in a Peter and Gwen situation.

Also around this time there’s a romance between Silena and her Electra.

Between basically being under silvermanes thumb and getting magical help from Dr Stange , Silenas Life is very busy. Silena also gets other friends like Marcos (hydro man) , Lottie (White rabbit), and some minor villains like Lizard (Kris Connors ) , and Morbius (Dr.Maeve Morbius)

Silverman gets defeated via suit technicality . (Water + technology isn’t good.) also big reveal, Silenas dad is in one piece , Silvermane basically used him as a bargaining chip

Short clone saga arc + Jackal being the worst human being possible. (Dmitri, Both Scopions , and Willow the wisp respectfully experience the horrors )

2 clones introduced

Bianca Riley (Ben Riley with Kaines personality)

And Krystal Riley (Kaine with Ben Riley’s personality.)

Silena gets along great with the two at first but it is quickly shown that Bianca is the evil evil twin. Aka. No morals Spider-Man who is feral. She’s also just cruel to everyone .meanwhile Quentin tries to be a hero like Silena (and gets utterly embarrassed but it’s ok. Can you blame him?? He is just a normal guy?)

And Bianca is the first to get the venom symbiote and genuinely has to be put down after mutating into a spider creature . Honestly very cathartic for Silena and Krystal. (Bianca is a toxic friend.)

Personality wise ; Silenas personality is very fluctuating. In video game terms she would have a changling soul from fear and hunger. In normal terms she has a little bit of an identity crisis , and depending on the person her personality changes. She can either be very optimistic or very pessimistic. Very caring or very crude. Etc etc . But she is very imaginative and a problem solver. Starting out very anxious and having her small handful of friends she grows as a character and branches out more and is more confident. That’s not to say though what she’s experienced hasn’t had an affect on her. She is still a major people pleaser most of the time because of the constant beratment from Silvermane and Bianca . And even then , as a sort of defense mechanism , she’s used the stone to seal away memories she never wants to remember again. Ever. While also being a people pleaser she can be chaotic. Often poking fun (out of endearment) at her friends or others. Though that’s not to say she’s very receptive to sarcasm or cruel jokes.she’s a very fluctuating character personality wise like I said . There is no TRUE way to describe her. She bullies and is also the bullied if that makes sense.

Also another key part is she down plays her trauma. She will always believe that what happened or happens to her is no big deal. That it’s fine and that you shouldn’t worry and that no, the glove on her arm is just for decoration and style! And no you shouldn’t tell her dad because he has so much on his shoulder’s already! Why stress him out with something that he shouldn’t worry about!

...So Cates, I have questions?

I am waiting until the event is finished to do a super post on Donny Cates Absolute Garbage. Until then, Cates continues to show that he cannot form sequence of events and just throws scenes in for no reason.

In AC #2 and MM: AC #1, we were left with Miles becoming a symbiote host. Cates doesn’t use his pieces well because for one Eddie and Mac were safely away from the Carnage horde at the end of both issues. As soon as this issue picks up, Miles transformation is complete and he is suddenly attacking Eddie and the Carnage Cult is surrounding both again.

This sounds like a nitpick but as I pointed out in that there is a right way to chart action scenes in comics and I refuse to lay the blame at Stegman because he is simply providing the art to Cates’ script. Also it continues to be a problem in the book and it involves a major scene.

Why couldn’t Venom just do this earlier? Why bother with the several page melodrama of Eddie angering over letting Miles down when it was his fault that he got captured in the first place since you want to demand Scorpion to man up for no reason? Why is the Symbiote getting bold and basically putting himself in danger to just kill Osborn or is it Cletus...who the fuck knows anymore.

So Venom takes Carnage back to the warehouse and to safety to find this.

Now Spider-Man explains to Eddie that the Avengers know that he is helping which is okay. But I have questions because it obvious why a certain character is there. If Ben Grimm is there, why not bring in Reed Richards instead of Bruce Banner? Yes, Banner is a genius too but Mr. Fantastic has familiarity with symbiotes and alien biology. Banner’s field has to do with Nuclear Physics, Physics, and energy transference. This is just the writer assuming all geniuses are the same in order to display a pivotal scene that is complete macho bait.

Oh hey, remember when I mentioned Cates lack of sequence of events?

...How did Carnage find their hideout? How did Carnage sneak into the hideout and become a copy of Eddie and how did no one think to realize why there are two Eddies in the same building?

That is the sequence of events, fam. There are no missing pages. Carnage just finds Eddie and Peter(Eddie casually dropping Peter’s name and alias to a serial killer god wannabe) and there is no explanation at all as to how 2 geniuses and Eddie got caught so fucking off guard by something so simple to realize. It makes people look stupid.

And the edgy ass dialogue? “I am sex and violence?” Cringe as fuck(I am aware he is quoting a book but whatever).

I am not a Venom fan. I was roped in this shit show because it involved Miles and Andi. So dealing with Cates, who is being hailed for his ‘writing’, is like one massive disappointment after another.

The issue is that he is desperately trying to exonerate Eddie while making the Symbiote look evil. The Symbiote is bringing the worst of Eddie and it’s never Eddie’s fault ever. Like you see the scene where the Symbiote is trying to relieve Peter of the responsibility of bringing Symbiotes on Earth(a retcon that Cates made btw) only for Eddie to make the same mistake and manipulate Peter’s guilt for his sake. But does the writing ever call Eddie out? No.

The Symbiote is the wild one for wanting to kill Carnage while Eddie wants to protect his own kin as if those two ideas are at odds. All of the sudden, Eddie values human life because he has a kid now? And it’s not even human. Null/Carnage is literally killing swathes of people and taking over people’s bodies while infecting them with a codex. At this point, Null is a parasitic disease.

But Eddie doesn’t trust the Symbiote and feels like it’s trying to control him and manipulate his life so he just does stupid things due to this creator forced drama. And it is creator forced because it was Cates that made the relationship between the two abusive when there was no such tension earlier. You erased the one sole motivator of Eddie, his sister, and claimed that she never existed. You made it seem like it was the Symbiote that was giving Eddie cancer intentionally so Eddie would always need it. You made the Symbiote use Eddie’s DNA and rape and force impregnate his ex-wife because women in this series are only good when they are sex slaves to an alien cult, raped to have children of dubious consent, and just a lie of a manipulation. Honestly, Cates�� Venom run should be held in the same regard as One More Day and I say this as an avid Spider-Man fan.

 16 THEIR ENGAGEMENT WAS SUPER QUICK

In the history of mankind there have been quicker engagements.

Shit STAN LEE got married super quick, he married his wife Joan of 60 something years literally the day she got divorced.

Their romance and love was always there they just weren’t being honest about it until Peter proposed.

Yeah the proposal-wedding was a few issues, but the romantic tension and relationship had been years in the making.

Yeah unless you were having a quick wedding at city hall with a small ceremony and there was a time skip before and during the final part of the story where they tie the knot.

15 DO THEY HAVE A BABY OR NOT?

“The second Clone Saga that ran during the mid '90s had one of the most confusing endings ever written. Basically, the writers needed to finish Ben Reilly's storyline while also tying up all of Peter's loose ends to make it possible for Peter to become Spider-Man again. One of these plot threads was the fact that Mary Jane was pregnant.

The editors felt that Spider-Man being a dad would age him, so they suggested that Mary Jane not have the baby, after all. However, it was also heavily implied at the time that Norman Osborn had the baby taken away. This storyline was teased for a few years, before ultimately being forgotten about.”

14 WHY DOES PETER STILL USE THE BLACK SUIT?

He brought it back in the 1990s during McFarlane’s run because he needed something stealthy and he discussed this with MJ.

He brought part of it back in the Clone Saga because he had nothing else to wear but it wasn’t the whole suit.

He brought it back during the Mackie run with Larsen because again he had nothing else to wear and MJ was presumed dead at the time anyway.

He wore it again in Back in Black at a time where he wasn’t wearing it in front of MJ and wanted to send a message to criminals that he was now going to be a more violent and scary fucker (it worked).

He wore it again in Brand New Day when he was impersonating Venom and he and MJ were broken up.

He wore it again in ASM #800 when he needed the power boost from the symbiote to beat Red Goblin.

And all this aside, MJ got over her fear of Venom anyway.

So rather than making no sense each individual instance actually did add up.

2 THEY BOTH KEEP HANGING AROUND THEIR EXES

1 GWEN WAS MEANT TO BE PETER'S TRUE LOVE, NOT MJ

Again, not something that doesn’t make sense. In fact it makes less sense for Gwen to be his true love since they were not a great match and true loves are fairy tale bullshit.
