ok, so (au headcanon time, this is permutation 1 but the scars bit is pretty consistent through the other permutations as well)

I feel like, since Desmond and Altaïr are living their lives concurrently, they both wanted to kill each others respective parental figures (not Umar he's cool)

Desmond wants to kill Al Mualim due to his treatment of Altaïr after Umar's death, how he taught him to be as a tool only for his bidding, multiple times Desmond has tried to kill the man but Altaïr stops him. Not because he loves Al Mualim but because of how everyone treated him after he told Abbas about his father. Rather than any of the other assassins corroborating the facts, they all kept silent and let Al Mualim neither confirm or deny what happened to Abbas' father, which ended up destroying the friendship he had to the person he was closest to. And after that they were both left in solitary confinement for a month, which would be hard in anyone, let alone a pair of grieving 11 year old children. Desmond realized exactly was Al Mualim was doing, and while Altaïr doesn't go against him until the AC1 events, he knows he has someone who will never leave or abandon him in his corner and would even kill Al Mualim if only he asked

On the other hand, any thoughts of vengeance were outright beaten out of Desmond, and the turning point was when he got his scar at a 11 (yes, they both got their scars at 11, it's all to do with the concurrent thing). William, who had been in a terrible mood, woke Desmond up in the middle of the night and demanded that he come down to the training ring behind their house in the woods for practice. William had two real hidden blades, and Desmond (who usually doesn't get a weapon) had a hidden blade made of wood that he'd crafted a few days before. To Desmond, this entire thing was nothing new. He'd go back to bed after tending to his injuries, and William was tired from beating down on him. That night was different. His mood was far more foul than he had anticipated, and William cut his blade from the side of his nostril all the way down to his chin. William takes him back to the house, to tend to his wounds, but he makes it very clear that what had happened "was an accident". Altaïr is having none of this and attempts to strangle him, causing William to flee as he starts choking.

Desmond had been wary of Al Mualim and distrustful, but it's not until Altaïr gets his scar that he's actively trying to kill him whenever he tries giving Altaïr private lessons. Altaïr got his scar from Abbas, but Al Mualim had been watching from afar and didn't step in until he saw Abbas was going for the kill. No one stepped into help until "oh, that's a bit too far," and even then, rather than coming clean to Abbas and telling him what happened, Al Mualim punishes them both. While Al Mualim can claim he wasn't the one who gave Altaïr the scar, the responsibility also falls on him because he saw what was happening and let it play out, before using the advantage to his situation.

William doesn't bother hiding what he's doing because no one ever comments when Desmond gets bruised up or hurt, and they'll either shrug it off as "an accident" or just "a mishap at training" if he walks around with a black eye. William knows he can get away with whatever he wants, so he just calls it an accident, and it doesn't matter what he does or he sees it, they will always corroborate the story he puts out.

The difference between Desmond and Altaïr is that Altaïr doesn't want to leave the life of being an assassin because it's all that he knows, and believes that he can still find purpose in the life his father once lived. Desmond wants to leave the assassins *because* its all he's ever known. Altaïr, once he reaches a certain rank, can still leave Masyaf and travel, he won't always be under Al Mualim's eyes, but if he stays an assassin Desmond will never be able to escape William and the people who refuse to stand up to him. To Desmond, being an assassin is all he's ever known and he wants to know more than that.

Reader couldn't help but be excited, they had conviced their fathers to let them go out alone! Well they had to bring their younger brother: Hitoshi.

"When I am done with my errand, do you want to go to that cat café you like? I'll pay." Reader asked Hitoshi while holding up their card with a toothy grin. "I love you." Hitoshi blurted out. "Where do we have to go first?"

"The videogame store. I want to buy the new horizon game and some extra joy cons for the switch and an extra switch for Eri with some games." Reader explained, they had been saving up all the money they got from their freelance job to be able to pay. Hitoshi nodded, Eri's birthday was coming up. "After that I need to buy that book pa wanted."

"How about you go to the videogame store and I pick up that book? That way we can go the café sooner." Hitoshi suggested with a happy tone, which caused Reader to chuckle. "Sure, I'll give you some cash to buy the book." They dropped some cash in Hitoshi's hands. "I'll see you at the café, okay?"

Hitoshi nodded and gave Reader a hug. "Stay safe alright." Reader chuckled and petted his hair. "Always."

When reader was at the videogame store, they grabbed a basket and greeted the shop's owner. "I have a copy of the new Horizon game at the counter waiting for you." The shop's owner told Reader. "Thank you so much, I just need to grab a few things for Eri's birthday."

Well much to Reader's luck, they still had mario party and animal crossing :D, so they took one happily. "Do you like Animal crossing?" Reader heard a rough voice behind them, causing them to turn in surprise.

"I want to know if it's worth purchasing." The guy added with an awkward chuckle. "I love it myself, like I love the interactions and making your own island. It's like getting away from the real world for a while." Reader rambled happily while smiling at the guy, until they noticed the blood on his neck. "Oh, you're bleeding, can I heal you?"

The guy looked at them in surprise, and then nodded. "I'm Tomura." He whispered while Reader healed his neck, it gave him a soft tingly feeling. "My name is Reader. Let's exchange numbers so that we can play animal crossing sometime."

Reader couldn't help but want to be friends with him. He didn 't seem as suffactiong as their parents and siblings.

"I would like that." Tomura smiled at them. "Here, put it in my phone, if you don't mind I have to go, my littler brother is waiting for me."

Tomura put his phone number in Reader's phone and nodded. "Send me a text when you have the time."

Also, I don't specify where the injury is, I only mention it and say that is bleeding

Buddha

Buddha is a really caring person, although he normally hide it behind his cheerful and carefree attitude (not because he is shy, is just the way he is), however as much as he cares for you he isn't going to treat you like you are made of glass, he is totally the type to push you or even hit you softly in a playful manner (as long as you are comfortable with it of course), and he is totally up to playfuly fight with you

If you already train he sometimes just watch you do it, sometimes he gives you some advice or even laugh a little when you strugle with something. If you are just about to start training he is totally up to help you with it (but not before tease you a little)

If you ask him if he could train with you it would be rare for him to say no (just in the case that he wants to just lay down and relax, otherwise he normally accept), and as playfuly as he is Buddha still take it kinda seriously, specially if you do take it seriously, however that doesn't stop him from joking around or tease you here and there

Buddha is totally up to playfuly fight with you, but for this to happen it should be in a more serious fight, while training he correspond your efforts and use all his strenght just to give you a fair fight, however he never has the intention of hurt you

It could be that you to just get carried away for the excitement of the fight and start to use more and more strength and being more carefree with it, Buddha even started to tease you with the power of his eyes just to mess with you and provoke you

For being so distracted with the excitement he doesn't noticed when his attacks started to be more rough or even aggresive until he sees that you had started bleeding, he is really surprised when he sees your blood and almost trip on his own for the shock, his body react before he can even think in what to say, immediatly holding you firmly but carefuly to inspect the injury

Buddha started to be so serious that when you started laughing he is shocked once again, and still it doesn't take him much time before relaxing and laughing too (if you are so amused by it then it doesn't hurt much or isn't too serious), thanks to your laugh Buddha lose all his seriousness and may even start joking about this whole situation

However, he doesn't forget that you were bleeding so he lead you to where he can treat your injury while still laughing, and after your injury is properly taken care of he will cuddle you for a while (and you won't convince him to do something else or get away from his)

Hades

Hades is a really caring person and a really fair leader, even if you weren't his partner he will never think on lay a hand on you without a good reason and being in a fair fight, although since you are his partner the only idea of you getting hurt irritated him

If you already train or want to start training and become stronger Hades find it admirable and is completely supportive with your wish, still that doesn't mean he isn't worried about it so he will try to make sure take every precaution

You have to persuade him to train with you (tease him to convice him doesn't really works, he just laugh at it saying that he knows what are you trying to do), he doesn't want to risk hurting you but still it isn't too difficult to convince him but he always stop when he thinks that you two have enough already or feel like you can't continue fighting

As time pass by, you had become stronger or already used to being in fights then Hades will feel more comfortable to fight with you in a more serious manner, now giving the best of him corresponding to your efforts

Is probably that the two of you got carried away for the excitement of the fight and went further with all your strength, so when you start bleeding for an injury he caused you Hades is in shock for a moment, seeing your blood shock him but at the same time bring him back to reality, he start panicing a little and start to apologize over and over for his carelessness and for hurting you while checking your injury

The moment you start laughing he is dumbfounded, he looks at you for a moment before relaxing and laughing softly too, he can see that you aren't mad at him or worried for it, you are taking it pretty well so there is no need for him to panic

However it isn't like he will let you like this, after laughing a little Hades tells you that is enough training for today and gently lead you to where he can take proper care of your injury

He tries to not worry much about it but that makes him be more alert to don't let himself get carry away like that again (even if you don't mind he does)

Qin Shin Huang

Qin Shin Huang doesn't seem like it or doesn't show it much but he is really caring over you, you are his beloved partner and he just wants the best for you however he tent to be really carefree and playful so it seems like he doesn't pay much attention to it

Qin is a fighter, he has got to where he is by fighting for it, so if you already train is more likely that he will insist on training with you (is just something else that he will like to share with you), however if you don't train yet but want to start to do Qin will be really supportive and excited over it, wanting to help you with it and ready almost immediately

As much as he is excited when he is training with you he won't really get carry away for the excitement, when you two are training he tries to stay focused and even when he is still a little playful he is serious too

Qin isn't going to actually fight with you to train until he is sure you have the strength to do so, not like he sees you as weak is just that when he fights he gets carried away so he wants to make sure he doesn't end up hurting you (also because with the power of his eyes he will have an advantage)

When you two start having fights as training Qin tries to don't go too harsh on you and finish it when is clear that one of you have advantage over the other or when one can't continue, however as the time goes by and you become stronger you two will have more and more fights where you don't have to hold back yourself. He is afraid of hurting, but as you two start to have more and more fights is almost imposible to avoid (and he doesn't want to treat you like if you were made of glass) so he just tries to avoid deep injuries

The moment he notice that you are bleeding Qin takes a moment to examinate the injury, but only if you are bleeding too much he stops you and ask you to stay still (if is only a little scrape he doesn't see why stop the fight if you still want to continue)

When he sees that the injury isn't too bad he goes back to his carefree attitude, and when you start laughing he is laughing with you too, however he will stop to take care of your injury he will hate for you to lose too much blood or something, and it doesn't matter if you complain or say that you can do it alone he will hold you in his arms and carry you to where he can treat your injury (either him or putting someone to do it, in any case he will stay by your side and make you have a break from training for the rest of the day)

I keep turning this concept in my head but I can't manage to write it satisfactorily so here I am, setting it out in the wild:

Tim Drake being alerted that Batman INC is something that is in the planning stages of it happening (maybe by Lucius, maybe by Tam, who even knows, look he was CEO for a while and someone is worried about Bruce Wayne about to go public with Batman INC and they get in touch with him) and going to Bruce and refusing to let him do this.

Because Bruce is needed in Gotham and Batman is needed in Gotham, and while Dick is doing a great job and no one will convince Tim of the contrary, that's not Dick's job. It's Bruce's.

(Who also has a son who just got his father back and if anyone knows what it would mean for a son who lost their father to get that father back when you know it's not going to happen... well lets say Tim has Opinions about this [and while he might not get along with Damian all that well yet, they are in that neutral state where Damian is like a cat observing things and studying dynamics and Tim has always been able to work with people he doesn't like or even trust much, so he's not going to punish the kid over whatever's went down between them.])

And besides, let's be real here Bruce, if you want a Batman that can go around the world and pull together teams and make them cohesive and knows what it's needed to be a successful team of young / upcoming young heroes, that's way more Dick than you yourself. Would be preferrable if he was allowed to do it as Nightwing, but the point still stands.

Just ... Tim pow-wowing with Bruce over the whole sitch and convicing him to back down. Not abandon the project, Tim knows that will not happen no matter what Tim does, but trusting it to Dick, who is way better with both younger people and people skills in general than Bruce.

(Which actually is not meant to separate Damian from Dick, Dick can come in from one assignment to the next and check on Damian and this is not the time it was when Tim was growing up, they have communications all over the globe now, Dick can phonecall and videocall Damian as many times as he wants and check on him as often as he wishes, but if Batman INC is happening, and it will happen because Bruce has decided it will, then Tim can only do damage control over this)

And possibly Bruce leveraging Tim staying in Gotham (which, joke's on Bruce, Tim was going to do that anyway, but sure he'll "concede") and possibly "asking" (ordering, let's be real here) Tim to help train Damian (which Tim isn't enthusiastic about but fine, he'll make it work as long as Bruce has his back), for multiple reasons.

A bit because Bruce sort of feels guilty that Tim was kicked out of the Robin role (Bruce HAD promised it would be Tim's until Tim decided otherwise, [which I don't think Dick knew about and even if he had, the situation still had been what it was, to be fair to Dick]) but also Bruce doesn't quite know what to do with Damian (and it wouldn't be the first time he's trusted Tim to teach young heroes / guide someone in a vigilante role) and also he both wants Tim to be there with him (he's missed him) and needs him there with himself (Tim the emotional regulation parentified wonder!).

Sousou no Frieren- Tickle Headcanons

This anime has me in a chockehold and ain't letting me go so soon so I might as well share all the daydreams and thoughts living in my mind rent free since I watched it and decided that!!! Hey!!! I can add tickles to that!!!

Anyway, at first I was going to just write about Himmel and a few other selected characters from both adventures but GOSH suddenly all out of nowhere I start daydreaming about ALL OF THEM and so... This long post was born. kjhgfdfghjklkj not all of them are going to be very long and it can be OOC but I hope you still like to read it as much as I liked to write! <3

He LOVES tickles and no one can convice me otherwise, I mean! Look at him! He definitely play that card at any moment he can

Cheering someone up? They say that laughter is the best medicine! Another boring day stuck in a cabin waiting for the snowstorm to go away? Nothing better than a tickle fight to make the time pass! Comforting a sad kid they just saved and are bringing to safety? Add a few wiggling fingers and watch that beautiful smile appear right way! Someone is literally just minding their own business doing nothing at all GET TICKLE ATTACKED!

He is a charming, playful, dramatic bastard and he knows it. He is using every and any opportunity to plentily tease the person, praising their laughter, pointing how lovely is their every reaction, gasping in false offense at any threat of revenge.

He will definitely laugh and snicker together with the person and sometimes let out honest comments that weren't supposed to be teasy but are like 'I didn't expect you to be so ticklish' or 'Wait, it tickles? Right here? That is so cute' and take the matters on his own hands to find at least one (1) new tickle spot when he tickles a friend because their surprised face right before descending in unstoppable giggling is way too priceless

Now, I need you to listen to this very very carefully: he can NOT take what he dishes out. at all.

So much squirming and trashing around. He can't control himself at all and won't even try to hold his laughter back, letting it ring loud and free, dying with any kind (literally, anything will do) of tease and pleading for his life as if he is being killed on the spot.

Somehow is totally blind to tickle traps. Sometimes just to mess with him Heiter would hold his cup up and ask for a toast and when Himmel complied he would latch on his ribs and rip my bro. he's dead on the floor. He never seems it coming even if they already done this a dozen time before.

Always crumbles with the tickles. A squeeze on his side and his legs transform in noodles immediately. That doesn't mean that he is a easy target though, if you decide to tickle him be prepared for some revenge

His main target and partner of tickle fights is Heiter, even though they manage to pull the rest of the party to their shenanigans sometimes too, even getting to listen to listen Eisen low, amused chuckles and Freiren tiny smile.

Talking about that. There is just one very specific occasion all his self preservations, squirms and defense disappear in the same second: when Frieren is involved.

Once, when both Heiter and Einsen decided to gang up on him, she decided to get into the fun with a few pokes and the VERY MOMENT Himmel realized that she was tickling him it was over.

He became a boneless mess of hysterical giggles on the floor not moving a single inch and taking all the tickling with no protests, completely lost in the fact that this was Frieren having fun, being silly and playful with them and his brain shortcurted and suddenly he became 1000000000000 more ticklish instantly.

Excuse me honor he is SMITTEN

If he is tickled for long enough or on a specially ticklish spot he lets out a loud, high pitched crackling that never fail to amuse his friends because he gets extremely red at that and tries to cover his face at any cost.

Besides that, he is not flustered at all about his liking to tickle and be tickled. It's a fun activity, a nice way to bond and it bring happiness to everyone! What is there to be embarrased about it?

Though other teases can destroy him rip

Is extremely and I say extremely gentle and caring when tickling Frieren. Soft scribbles, light scratching and steeping away not before too long has passed. Sometimes get lost in the happiness and joy of the moment but it's quick to come back to reality so that his tickling never lasts too long and he gets smiley about it for the rest of the day.

Gets grumpy about how he never manages to catch Einsen by surprise but immediately loses his pout when the warrior decides that he is not the one who started that war but he is the one who will finish it.

When he takes too long to decide a pose for their statue they start to attack him with plenty of pokes and squeezes until he finally makes up his mind.

Sometimes they just do that while he is posing to mess with him too. Especially because Himmel will try to pretend nothing is happening and attempt to keep his pose on the very beginning until he eventually breaks down in titters and protesting giggles.

It never lasts long. But he keeps trying

Softest and most playful aftercare ever. With plenty of comfort and smiles.

Heiter

Our flawed priest <3

Do not have The Smirk but he has an entire aura about him that you can't really point what it is but suddenly there's ringing danger bells in your mind and on outside he looks normal, just taking a drink but then you blink and then BOOM he strikes

Can and will destroy someone with tickles with just one (1) hand because his other one is too busy carrying his cup

Gets stupidly silly when tickling someone. He will chuckle together with the person and use the goofiest nicknames, teases, tickle traps and everything else he can think of. It's the whole ordeal, really. He has no shame.

It's quite neutral but leaning to positive when it comes to tickling, but since Himmel is always dragging him into tickle fights he can't help but get a little bit of playful revenge. After a few years he started a couple of them by himself too.

Is horribly skilled with the nimblest and deadliest tickles ever.

Also. Changes from side to side of a tickle fight easy as water and will always help who offers him more drinks. So be careful when siding up with him to not get too close or comfortably into tickling range.

Somehow, incredibly lucky in finding tickle spots, be with random pokes to call the person's attention or some soft scribbling to hear some giggles and smile amused and content at them.

Also adept to cheer up or comforting tickles, creating a lot of fond memories with Fern in the nights she couldn't sleep and they both shared some good tea while watching the sky.

Will try to curl up in a ball when tickled and his only protest is to be careful with his glasses.

Not really very affected by teases. Says a lot of nonsense when is tickled tho

Frieren

HEEEEERRRRRRRR <3 <3 Our old lady

Has the tiniest, sweetest smile when tickling someone. it's adorable.

Do not engage in tickle fights but it's not against them. Usually would just stay in the background with Einsen while the other two got caught up in their giggly shenaningans

Her biggest moment was when she decided to show everyone this magic spell she learned some decades ago and then suddenly everyone is attacked by a bunch of wiggly, fluffy feathers that followed them no matter how much they squirmed or jumped.

Tickle spell tehee

They never got to know if she did that to mess with them or if she truly just wanted to show the spell.

Is more curious about tickling than anything. Thinks it's a nice way to make her friends laugh, but it's also very neutral about it, won't actively seek revenge or anything.

After years with both Himmel and Heiter, also lightly tickled Fern once or twice for the sake of cheering her up.

Ticklish ears ticklish ears ticklish ears ticklish ears-

The first time Himmel tickled her he immediately fell on the floor ded because it was too much cute.

(The way he looked at her that day is a fond memory for her, she doesn't quite know why, tho.)

Not really a squirmer and her laughter is mostly silence, full of small giggles and one or two hiccups. Like soft tickles the best, since it is not unbearable to feel and actively leaves her w a light, quite content feeling afterwards. She could take a tickle fight, tho.

Fern

Just as she does when fighting, thrives when her victim understimate her power and is quick and ruthless to bring them to their destruction.

Will tickle the person usually as a way to get them to do something (probably a chore they forgot) or admit something while having the most unimpressed face ever seen by humankind

She can be both incredibly merciless and very very kind, depends on her mood, the person and the context

Only like being tickled by someone she really trusts and not around another people so no one will her being silly like this.

Get very embarrassed just for thinking how childish tickling is, but treasures the soft moments with har friends and family, just like every other playful, fun, nice memory

When the person (let's be honest here, probably Spark) is too occupied laughing their heart out also let's out the tiniest, softest smile, pretty much like Frieren

Used tickles to cheer up Spark once and promised to do 10 times worse if he even THINKS about mentioning that to anyone

Snorts. SO much of them. If she is laughing they will automatically appear no matter how much she tried to hide them between her hands.

Her shoulders and head shake with giddy energy when is being tickled. It's everything <3

As I said on Himmel's part, not really one to start the tickle fight but a quick one to finish it.

Not really very ticklish and not very easy to be caught out of guard so rip his opponents, really

HOWEVER, he has one single incredibly and horribly ticklish spot right under his knee that he immediately DIES when it's tickled and it's an automatic win for the person, so the thing is of every fight is: will them be able to get him there before he gets them? That is the big question

Not really a teaser, prefers to tickle the person in silence while mapping the places that get the biggest reactions so he can focus there.

Could or could not have used this techinique with Spark to 'train his resistence' once (an excuse that his friends were very fond to use with him) but no one will ever know because if you ask him he will just stare at you and let out a single chuckle before going on about his day and Spark will Blush and Die before answering

Made mental bets and always knew the score by heart of Himmel x Heiter fights

Used to think it was a silly and pointless activity. But after their ten year adventure came to treasure and be fond of silly, pointless activities

It kind of reminds he of his brother, since when he was a kid he was the biggest tickle monster ever. Not only on those training tips he used to give even while being extremely busy, but he just loved to appear out of nowhere behind him, carry and put him on his shoulder and tickle him while walking back home, pretenidng he was carrying a bag of 'extremely wiggly vegetables!'

He also used pokes and prodding to help him with maintaining his form while wielding a sword. Even if extremely common, Spark still squeaked everytime he poked his armpit to remind him to not his arms so far away from his torso

the party was as expected of a party at a school full of teenagers who often got into trouble. but nonetheless, you found yourself having fun, even when leona made it obvious he wasn't all that happy being there.

So Sodapack is a good ship. I love the concept of it. Its excellent, chefs kiss. Though Fanon has defintely made an impact on said ship. People tend to forget/mischaracterize/etc each Bryce and Liam.

If Bryce and Liam are together immediately after the events on HFJOne, its toxic. Its a trauma bond.

Liam, whether he does it on purpose or not, is gaslighting, critizizing, and breaking Bryce's set boundries. Bryce's fickle nature causes him to resign his boundries that he sets in the show.

Bryce and Liam need to learn to heal on their own before getting into something like a romantic relationship. Both have suffered and getting into something like that is just asking for unintentional hurt to happen.

So why do I consder it a good ship if all these flaws exist?

It's because people can change and heal. Its just human nature. Both Bryce and and Liam have hurt eachother. One more than the other *cough-Liam-cough*.

Its going to take time to forgive, yes. Hell, you can't just forget what happened either. I know from experience.

However!! If these two were to heal properly? I can see the ship being extremely cute. A friends to lovers type of thing.

Conclusion/TLDR;

tldr; Sodapack is good,. HOWEVER, people need realize that trauma bonds exist and are extremely harmful. Both Liam and Bryce need time to heal from what happened. They have the potiential to be a really cute pair if this occurs.

Ava seems like a plethora of contradictions. She was free spirited yet shy; wise cracking yet introverted and liberated whilst also being old fashioned. But yet, I feel like I can relate to her for some reason; she seems more authentic than most celebrities. I do wonder though what she was always running away from and why she couldn't seem to commit to anyone for long. I wonder how she would have fared as an actress in this day and age. Do you think she had a personality disorder?

As a very insecure person she needed someone to give her confidence (like Marilyn needed too). Ava had good parents but they had 7 children and were busy all the time, then they died when she was less than 20. Then there were 2 very unsuccessful marriages (Mickey Rooney who started cheating on her 2 weeks later and Artie Shaw who tried to convice her that she was dumb). After Shaw she started drinking. And I think that it was precisely the alcohol that changed her so much and gave her mood swings. Her friends used to say that it was like Jekyll and Hyde, sober Ava and drunk Ava. Sober Ava was very sweet person, earthy, great friend, etc. Drunk Ava did unexpected and risky things, like participating in corrida, etc. When you feel empty inside you have to fill the void with parties, travels and lots of people. Don't get me wrong, to feel empty doesn't mean to be empty. Otherwise she wouldn't have suffered at all. And I'd say she wasn't running from something, she was searching for home, and couldn't find it anywhere. I think Frank was her soulmate and her chance for happiness. As well as she for him. But they both needed to change very much to be together. To give up ego, arrogance, that hollywood way of life, lots of lovers. And they didn't do it. And so they both just kept wandering, changing lovers and all in vain. It's like Scarlett O'Hara who understood that Rhett was her home when he went away.

Gojo Satoru and the Burden as the Strongest

Character analysis, S2 spoilers including recent chapters.

Unpopular opinion but I think it was only natural for Shoko to not be involved in Gojo and Geto's relationship as much. Before anyone says anything - I love Shoko. She's been through so much but it all went unnoticed which I am upset about. She will always be a part of the trio and nobody can convice me otherwise.

The whole arc was really centered and about Gojo. It's where we see his growth as a sorcerer and the heavy hearted resolution he makes.

Because the arc was revolved around Gojo, we obviously got information and story in correlation to his present self. Putting it simply, I'm really just stating the obvious - the arc is and was about Gojo's backstory.

Before I dive in deeper, let's put our background knowledge to use. Who is Gojo Satoru? Well, the strongest of course. But at what cost exactly? The cost of a normal childhood, a normal life, and so on.

To be the strongest is much more closer to a curse than a gift. Gojo was born with powerful abilities so people naturally came to praise him and burden him with their problems.

Gojo was basically their god. A title he didn't even ask for. As he grew up surrounded by all those people, weak people, he became to question his purpose for serving these people.

Why must he protect him? For what exactly? For who? - Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

To bear the title as the strongest means to bear the burden of millions. It means to face the world by yourself. No matter how many supporters you have, it's all blank. It's loneliness. Loneliness of knowing that no one else can truly empathize with you.

But that wasn't Gojo. At least it wasn't when Geto was by his side.

That's where Geto's role stands in Gojo's backstory. Another person who has the potential and can be the strongest alongside Gojo.

The reason Gojo is a teacher at Jujutsu high and continues to save lives has connection with Geto's beliefs when he was a sorcerer.

The belief of "Jujutsu sorcerers exist to protect the weak" that he pushed upon Gojo so much was effective; and we can see that through Megumi, one who was raised by Gojo.

Not only that, but because Gojo Satoru, the one who once said "It's alright, we're the strongest" - came to the realization that being the strongest wasn't enough. That some people (like Geto) are beyond saving - even with the most powerful abilities in the world.

Through this, and his final encounter with Geto, I'm sure he understood why Geto chose such path - which is why he strictly tells Megumi to become strong; strong enough to not fall behind.

Geto is a character that needs to feel needed. A character who wishes to be helpful - one of the reasons he served as a sorcerer without a large purpose; without his own goals.

When Gojo grew stronger, Geto soon realized Gojo didn't need him anymore. That Gojo is now able to complete missions by himself and without Geto's assistance.

This can be seen as one of the major reasons why Geto drifted away. Following the apparent "way of the world" blindly.

Wrapping this up - in a way, Geto can be seen as Gojo's "moral compass". He who guided the strongest sorcerer of morality. Which, personally, seems very difficult to do when you see the world of Jujutsu Kaisen through Geto's eyes after his downfall.

Imo, I think Geto's death triggered his obsession with people not being "left alone/behind".

Then here comes Shoko - who did stay. Who stayed next to Gojo, sharing the sadness when Geto died.

Both of these characters' feelings are valid. Nobody is wrong; though Gojo's might be taken to be more "selfish", I wholeheartedly believe that one can feel lonely even with everything in the world.

I'm not Gojo nor Shoko so I don't really have a say, but as a reader, I can confidently say that in different ways, they both perfectly portrayed loneliness.

Gojo's story was not only revolved around him, but also Geto - because he had that much of an impact to who he is now. The Gojo we are seeing today, Geto helped him become.

The ultimate truth is that though it may have not been much, Shoko served her role in Gojo's backstory completely.

It'd be nice to see her included in future chapters with Gojo - I have high hopes when Jujutsu Kaisen nears it's end. A scene with Shoko and Gojo at Geto's grave reminiscing the past together is not a want but a need.

I've reread some parts and I'm starting to question my choice of words but please keep in mind I have no intention of downgrading any character! Gojo, Geto, Shoko are my favorite trio and they have a really special place in my heart. I apologize if I sounded off? incorrect? one-sided etc. I'll probably have to reread throughly and fix some sentences.

no one is saying that if you write fanfiction you are, inherently, a worse writer than anyone who’s ever been professionally published. we all know that being a skilled writer isn’t necessarily a requirement to be published, and we all know that fanfiction writers can be incredibilty talented. when people say that a lot of booktok books popular, recently published genre fiction is “written like fanfiction” in order to criticize it, we don’t mean that fanfiction is bad; we mean that the way one writes fanfiction doesn’t translate well to original fiction. therefore, when an author started writing in fandom, but didn’t really alter the way they write when they made the jump to original fiction, it really fucking shows in their work.

more below. warning: LONG.

in fanfiction, you don’t have to give a lot of introduction (or really, any introduction) to the characters, the setting, the lore, et cetera. it can be assumed that anyone reading your fic is reading it because they not only already know everything about the world, but they also already care. the author doesn’t really need to do any legwork in this area. in the event that you make changes from canon that need to be explained, in the world of fanfiction you can simply give an exposition dump in the summary or the author’s note, and no one will bat an eye.

you obviously can’t do this in original fiction. the reader does not already know and care about your characters / setting. you need to weave the information necessary for understanding the book into the book itself, and you need to give reason to care about the characters in the book itself, otherwise the reader will walk away from your book confused and dissatisfied. and unlike in fanfiction, you cannot simply give an exposition dump and tell the reader exactly how things work in a little aside before the book begins.

you can’t simply hop from fanfiction to original fiction without changing anything about your approach to writing and expect things to go well. if you want to make that leap, you have to actively work to refine your craft into something publishable.

but aside from those fundamentals about fanfic vs original fic, i also feel pretty confident in saying that the majority of fanfiction is just pretty mid. not to say that fanfiction writers never produce genuinely good writing, but in general a lot of fanfiction is just mediocre. and that’s okay! 

fanfiction doesn’t have to have the most beautiful prose you’ve ever read for you to find value in it, and it shows a deep level of insecurity when people feel that fanfiction has to be revolutionary and life changing and so on and so forth to justify their enjoyment of it. i’m a pretentious asshole with an all-encompassing need to be seen as cultured and intellectual, and there are many things that i like that are just okay. you don't see me out here trying to convice people that sherlock gnomes is a cinematic masterpiece (although it is /j).

unlike original fiction, fanfiction is not and never can be a job. everyone who writes fanfiction writes fanfiction as a hobby. so it isn’t really a big deal if they’re just okay. i paint as a hobby, and (for me) painting will never be a career, so it doesn’t matter if i only ever paint the same small collection of subjects or if my skill level stays the same, because i do it for fucking fun. similarly, it doesn’t really matter if a fanfiction author only ever writes permutations of the same basic plot or if their writing doesn’t improve over the years, because it’s just a sillyhappy little activity they do in their spare time.

but that isn’t really okay in original fiction? i mean, like i already said, publication is not an inherent marker of quality and there are plenty of authors who just churn out what is essentially the same book over and over again and gain insane amounts of clout and money from them, but in general, in original fiction, you need to be able to write different stories in order for readers to remain interested in your work. for all the popularity that authors like colleen hoover, sarah j. maas, ali hazelwood, and their ilk have, the fact that most of their body of work is the same story in different skins doesn’t exactly scream creativity and skill. people who actually engage with what they're reading are going to notice when an author really only writes one thing.

and an author who writes for a living is going to want to improve their craft, even in small ways. obviously perfectionism is unhealthy, but there’s a certain joy in being able to pull off something in your art that you weren’t able to pull off before, and to keep writing engaging and unique stories you need to keep improving and expanding your horizons.

just overall, obviously you don’t really have to be talented to get published haha, but if you want to actually be good at writing original fiction, the way you approach writing it needs to be different than the way you approach writing fanfiction. that’s why it’s so obvious when an author started with fanfiction but didn’t change anything about their approach when they began to write original fiction (or if they straight up used their fanfiction itself). that’s why “it’s written like fanfiction” is an insult to a published work; it’s because what makes good fanfiction isn’t necessarily what makes good original fiction.

and fanfiction can 100% be used as a tool to improve your writing, but when you’re looking to write original works, fanfiction can only take you so far. you eventually have to hone your craft writing actual original pieces instead of fanfiction.
