yeah, because they dont have a space player in the QB session it is technically unwinnable, so jack would have to scratch the session. the post-scratch session is control characters bc Why Not tbh, i think it makes sense. polaris is like a first guardian in this au (so she's like the becquerel to jesse's jade, if you catch my drift, including eventually prototyping herself, then self-prototyping with jesse's dreamself so that when jesse godtiers, polaris becomes a part of her. i just love that concept so much lol)

anyway back to the qb characters tho!! in this au, they all know each other cuz they play d&d together online. will is their dm. will and jack dont live together anymore (will went to study abroad and is staying with his & jack's grandfather, who is a scientist) hence why they play online. this is how they end up playing sburb together.

jack is the first to enter the game, followed by paul, then beth, then will last (he does NOT like jack being his server player, lol).

as far as who reaches godtier first... i have thought about this a lot actually and i think paul, being a seer of light, is the first to figure out how to godtier, but is not the first to do it because he is afraid to die. in the end, jack probably makes it to godtier first, entirely by accident (he probably does something stupid and gets horrendously injured, and someone-- maybe paul?-- carries him to his quest bed). after jack has reached godtier, paul asks his help with it, and gets jack to kill him >:3c because of course jack is the only one he would trust to do that >>>;3c

imo i feel like even tho the series is based on a musical group, theres not much music based storylines? so its rly fun to read more of the music side of things with roxy <3

RAHHHHH THANK YOU FOR ASKING... i spend a lot of time thinking about roxy's musical interest but i don't spend much about the rest of the cast aside from a few offhanded mentions here and there. this was a challenge to put together but it was so fun! <3

the main thing i want to mention before i dive into oc music taste is the presence of music surrounding my story! every chapter title, song mentioned, musical influence etc i'm trying to keep within the timeframe + past in which the story takes place. as someone who was not really aware of popular radio in 2009, this is a very fun challenge for me.

what type of music does your oc like? Like you said, her music taste is pretty clearly defined! She's into just a bit of everything, though prefers pop and rock music above all else. Since she worked at a radio station, she was lucky enough to have access to all sorts of music, and when the station went digital, the owner let her keep all of the ancient cassette tapes they used to store everything on! Through combing through these albums from across many generations, she's been able to cultivate what she's into on her own, though her biggest musical influence is definitely her dad! If he wasn't into punk/rock she wouldn't be either. do they listen to music very often? Yes! I don't show this too often in my fic, but I think she listens to music a lot because she prefers it to silence - especially when she's alone in her apartment. What she listens to depends on her mood, and she has a bunch of different mix tapes she's made/she's found to match. So one of those could be on, one of her favorite albums could be on, or she could just pull her iPod out and put that little thing on shuffle to let the machine decide... 2. Declan Somerset

what type of music does your oc like? Declan is a rock/punk/metal kinda guy but specifically the sub-genre of these types of music that culminate into local gigs at shit dive bars and basement shows. As a youngin he stumbled into a basement show with some of his friends (soon to be bandmates) and just loved the atmosphere so much he roped his friends into making their own band so they could be active participants in their community. He's the kinda guy to be like "oh, yeah, i like this band, they're super underground idk if you know them" but like... he's right. No one else in Minnesota is listening to Rainbow Sludge Baby Guts Explosion or Sexy Fishing Rod Brigade or whatever that band he saw last night was called. For him, it's not so much about the actual music, but the community surrounding it, but he would love to hit the stage and shred again if someone let him! do they listen to music very often? When Roxy was home, he would listen to whatever she had on! Her music listening habits didn't change from Minnesota to California, so whatever she put on was just background to him. Now that she's gone, he finds the house is a lot more quiet than it used to be. The only time he really finds himself listening to music is if he's at a show or if he's playing it himself. musical things this character has mentioned/is observed liking: - Nothing concrete yet! 3. Carlos

what type of music does your oc like? Very briefly mentioned in chapter 18 but Carlos is a big fan of Latin music, show tunes, and hip hop! I imagine growing up in a household with three generations of Hispanic individuals really helped cultivate his taste in this way. I personally do not know much about Latin music, show tunes, or hip hop music, but I imagined while they were on the plane he had Roxy listen to a lot of Selena because he though she specifically would like her music a lot. Homie was bumping El Chico Del Apartemento 512 so hard trying to get her to vibe with it while she was like half conscious and trying to not get sick lmaoo. As for hip hop, I think that was something he discovered for himself once he entered high school. Artists like Jay-Z, Eminem, 50 Cent amaze him with how they're able to get their point across and he likes to try and learn the words as a challenge (though he is not very good at it) and he also likes to make up his own dances. It's also good hockey hype music, he likes to listen to it before games. And show tunes... I truly know nothing about musicals so I cannot speak to specifics but he likes them because (in my unposted james POV chapter which will come out eventually) he used to try out for school musicals a lot. He likes the flare and the dramatics! do they listen to music very often? Though... his performance of Girl 2 My Heart in the first ep of the show makes me believe he actually liked some of the 90s boy band stuff! There is hope yet. Also, not in the story, but I think after his and Roxy's little scene in the fourth chapter he listened to some Oasis and was like "what the fuck. no." Too jock to rock... Tragic... But his issue before BTR was that he liked music but never found anything he liked enough. do they listen to music very often? Only at work, only when he's learning a song, only when he's trying to snoop on whatever Roxy's writing. 5. Logan

what type of music does your oc like? Oh my GOD Logan is so into rap music it isn't even funny. Everything about it is just so exciting to him! The technical composition of the beat, the eloquence of the lyrics and how they're strung perfectly together, the performance of it all, the messages... It's like a big equation to him, and he loves it! He and Carlos often bond over this, because rap is a sub-genre of hip hop if I'm not mistaken. Artists like 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, DMX... We see the vision hopefully and I apologize for not being more knowledgeable in the rap/hip hop genre to provide more than common generalizations. He also really likes instrumental music! As we saw in chapter 16, he also enjoys being in a room in which Roxy is playing either the guitar or the piano! do they listen to music very often? Yes... This man is somehow able to study and listen to music at the same time, so he'll hit his playlist and hit the books. AKA he's listening to it a lot when he's alone. And as previously mentioned, he'll also seek out Roxy to play him some instrumental tracks too. It's good for him, no silence when he studies, and good for her, she gets to practice. what type of music does your oc like? Oh, James... In the same vein as Kendall, he likes whatever's on the radio, but simply because that is what's popular and he himself is popular. So pop music, for sure, is his favorite genre and it's easily accessible through the radio or his phone or whatever so he's always keeping up with the latest! In addition, however, I think he really likes R&B and soul-type music as well as a by-product of living with his mother. There's a reason he chose a Smokey Robinson song to sing at his audition and not something on popular radio, right? Part of it is because he has a really smooth voice that flows right along into the R&B/Soul type genre, but also I'd say it's mostly his mom's influence. Her son should know the "classics!" Also like previously mentioned, he's big into show tunes! It's mentioned a bit in chapter 19 hehe. He's very good at convincing Carlos to try out for school musicals with him, so they practiced a bunch together after school hockey practice <3 And of course... He likes whatever Roxy plays... And wishes she'd play for him the same way she does for Logan... do they listen to music very often? I'd say his music listening is moderate... Not as much as Roxy and Logan but far more than Kendall! In Minnesota, his mom would play her music bc she's so controlling lol... So whenever he was on the way to school/friends' houses/dates/whatever he'd pop on the radio to catch up with the latest and the greatest. what type of music does your oc like? Two words: Boy bands. It's as simple as that! I'd also say this blends into mentions of popular music, but if she has a choice she's putting Backstreet on no QUESTION. That and movie soundtracks, I'd say, but only for the cheesy supernatural romances she likes. I know she's bumping the Twilight soundtrack near daily (as she damn well should be). Also, I know she's from North Carolina but she doesn't really feel like a country girl to me... idk Being friends with Roxy and dating Kendall is like her perfect musical dream. do they listen to music very often? Yes! Like Roxy, Jo doesn't really like silence. I imagine she listens to music most when she's running lines and trying to flesh out the characters she's trying out for. Once again: listening to the Twilight soundtrack while running lines for New Town High... God I love her. I'm not going to lie to yall i've literally thought about this for hours and I just have no idea. in the show i know she was in their camp rock spoof, so maybe show tunes? but thinking about her sitting down and listening to like... Hello, Dolly! just doesn't feel like her. my best response is that she absorbs her music taste through her friends like osmosis. Jo and Roxy like boy bands? Great, now Camille does too! Logan is rocking out to Beastie Boys? Camille is excited to be a part of it. I also know that very briefly she mentions knowing how to figure skate, so maybe even like classical music? but that feels far too mellow for her... She likes Big Time Rush and that's enough for me to say she at the least enjoys pop music. What do we think gang?? do they listen to music very often? 💿 ceremonials florence + the machine — behind kiss with a fist this is the og florence for me, the album that i truly fell in love with and played on repeat on my silly little ipod nano in 2012. also the album with most florence songs applied to concept and writing playlists over time

💿 ok computer radiohead — my og sadboy depression album. then i grew up and started listening to the lyrics beyond projecting and started to hear the album concept. i still queue it up when i feel sad tho

Kitchen scruffy drawer phone: Nokia 3310 - always worked, could drop it a million times but still worked once you reassembled the pieces, great for playing snake

School phone I had and used: Nokia 1100. Very squishy foamy keys, great when dropped

Popular girl at school phone: Pink Razr. I didn’t have one but they were cute and could add phone charms to!

Longest reigning higher tech phone: Sony Ericsson W800i (following from the W700 Walkman). Perfect phone! Orange screen, chunky feel, better quality music playback than what was available. Truly a gem

There was another one, made of metal that I had and once threw off a skate ramp in a fit of teenage rage, only to go collect it, reassemble it and carry on using it 👌🏽 obviously this doesn’t account for the dawn of the iPhone but if you were poor you didn’t get an iPhone, you waited until you could get a different mp3 or a secondhand ipod (shuffle or mini or nano, then eventually touch) to use alongside a phone!

(so im gonna go chronological in the order i bought these)

so my first ipod was my fourth gen shuffle (left), which i got in store in 2014 or 2015. my mom bought it for me and i was actually very disappointed because i really wanted a 7th gen nano, but they were 200 bucks or something so that wasn’t happening. but i ended up using this thing religiously through middle school and into freshman year. i’d load it with podcasts and listen to it on the bus. shuffles r really great and i love that they don’t have a screen, i think they’re very cute :-)

then i got the fourth gen nano (right) off ebay refurbished in 2018 or so. my dad bought it for me because i really wanted to “upgrade” from the shuffle. unfortunately the thing got the spot™️ like two months after i got it (these nanos are so thin that when the battery swells with age it pushes against the screen! very unsafe, definitely a fire hazard), so i went back to the shuffle. lucky me though up that i found the nano earlier this year under a pile of junk

so this is my classic 5th gen (30GB thin model)!! i bought him myself in summer of 2023 and i love him so much :D usually i have him in a hard plastic case but i replaced the battery a couple days ago so he’s free at the moment. my favorite favorite thing about him is the engraving

ITS SO CUTE 😭 HE WAS AN ANNIVERSARY GIFT!! the misspelling of wife 😭😭 the “Love, me” (why didn’t you just put your name?!?) it’s all fantastic. silly and interesting engravings are my favorite and this is the funniest engraving ive ever seen imo so i think i definitely lucked out on him.

NEXT ARE MY MINIS!!! I also bought these on ebay, but I got these in august and september of this year respectively. the pink mini is a 4GB 2nd gen and the green one is a 4GB 1st gen. there’s no major differences between mini generations besides some minor cosmetic things and an improvement in battery life

these two have names! the pink one is named shirley and the green one is named cricket :-) i imagine they r fashionista besties

shirley needs a new battery (her battery life only lasts 20min :( ) but she does have music on her from the original owner. I bought cricket refurbished (new batt and hard drive). cricket is very interesting because they are actually produced in korea, which is why I bought them. not exactly sure how rare of a find korean ipods are here in the states

ok so these are two black 5th gens (30GB models again), the right one is a 5.5 gen tho so it has a search bar. so I bought these in september because i recently started an ipod ebay page myself, mostly so i have an excuse to buy and repair them. unfortunately i am unemployed atm so I can’t keep everything i get, and i want the ipods i sell to go to loving homes. it’s not about the money at all for me. ANYWAYS i flash modded these two with iflash solo and 256GB samsung SD cards (plus they got new batteries and screen replacements). i need to test the battery life on them and then i will list them and eventually send them to their new homes </3 i actually have a third black 5th gen in my drawer rn but bro was having motherboard problems so I’ll have to deal with that eventually :/

THIRD GEN CLASSICS R SO PRETTY THEY ARE MY FAV IPODS AESTHETICALLY I THINK!! I actually have three of these but two r open rn so im going to show you the nice semifunctional one. this is suzy (didn’t come up with that, that’s just the name in it), and she is lowkey haunted because when I was testing the drive she made the most unholy loud noise and idk where that noise came from because ipods don’t have speakers!?!?! anyway she’s a 20GB model (all my 3rd gens I have are), and she still has music on her (and old recorded spiritual radio shows from the 2000s!), i would love to look through her properly to see what’s on here but she’s unfortunately mac formatted and I don’t have a mac. she also needs a battery replacement which ill do eventually. im saving my third gens for last with the repairs because they r pretty finicky

ok so technically I ALSO have 17 4th gens sitting on my floor in a box but I will not show you them right now because it will take much too long and i’ll probably go past the photo limit. i bought some batteries recently so I will be working on some of them next for repairs :-) i am going to keep three of them but the rest will go up on eBay but probably not for months and months

I know we all love computers obviously but what do you guys think of smaller electronics. because personally i love a single-use electronic and I especially love mp3 players :-) they r all my little besties and i am like their surgeon who takes them apart and gives them organ transplants (new batteries)

Scout: I headcanon that, whenever the Mercs land in the county jail for the night for something Scout did, probably, this guy trades his left sock for the other inmates harmonica, and everyone groans, because it's gonna be one of THOSE nights. Scout takes advantage of this 'talent' and the Mercs dont even have to call Pauling to bail them out... the jailhouse just wants to get some SLEEP.

Engineer: Guitar player all the way, and a pretty badass banjo player, but apprently the other team found out and all the 'backwater hick' jokes came out, so, after kicking their asses, he hung up the banjo for a bit. Thinking about picking it back up though!

Sniper: I think he was forced to take Band one year, and mastered every wind instrument out of pure boredom. Guys lungs are the size of Wyoming.

Soldier: THE UKULELE. You cannot pry away the headcanon that Soldier is a genius on a beautiful, handmade Hawaiian Ukulele.

Demoman: Piano is the canon instrument, but I like to think that Demo is a KILLER on the keytar. He has a sign-up list for the local garage bands, 15 bucks an hour!

Medic: Violin! I personally took violin classes in middle school, so I kinda based my headcanon with my own experience... but who knows, maybe this is how Medic came in contact with the Devil, by being the most devilish violin player in Germany >:3

Pyro: Xylophone. Because, why not?

Heavy: One would expect him to be someone who pays a classy, calm instrument... but Heavy is a fricking BEAST on the drums, mostly because drums are his way of releasing any extra aggression he would normal release on the field... on on the base, when someone does something really flipping stupid. And amazingly, they don’t break.

Spy: He’s picked up the basics for many worldly instruments in his days of false identity and missions, but he’s always been fond of the cello.
