Just one thing I’ve wondered since the ending of the show myself…

So, I was thinking hypothetically, that even if it was the case that jikook didn't see each other for months, if they are ‘just friends', why on earth did they need to carve out time to travel together? They could have literally just hung out in Seoul when eventually free, had dinner, drinks, gone to a gig, (I mean they did, when they went to D-Day, they hung out with Yoongi as Jimin said), like they do with others, like Jimin going to an art gallery with Joon (who he also didn't see much of in 2023).

I mean seeing as how busy they were, especially as the schedule was fit into JK's already very busy schedule (and literal release of his first solo single) squeezed in, why would it matter?

Because if they are just friends, they are no more just friends than any of the other member, or any of their other friends?

I know they made it work, by having it filmed, and had to bc of MS, and that this was planned and executed by the company, and sold to Disney as we know. It was obviously part of their chapter 2, I think spearheaded by Jimin, but it is such a major thing to do.

But, again, if they were only friends, why?

I say this also because in a majorly loud way, it marks them as different to the others. The why of it all. Why they wanted/needed to do this with each other, and only them (as was intended). Jimin spent half of 2023 saying the only members he saw were Hobi and Yoongi - which in turn made other shippers think that they are finally ready to show the world their relationship (and I mean that literally, I saw a thread about it yesterday, that in 2023 Yoongi was fulfilling Jimin's words in 'Serendipity'). I digress… but he also supported Hobi at Lola and Yoongi in Newark.

If we think about it, in real time we did not know what they were doing in NYC, and we only got fan stalker pics, nothing from them. Nothing on social media, no live. Why? Jimin went live with Yoongi, and posted pics of them on Instagram, also with Joon when they went to the art gallery. Why didn't they post or go live even if it was just him supporting JK in NYC, like he did Yoongi, and Hobi. It makes no sense if they are 'just friends, as to me, again, it marks them as different?

I can’t wrap my head around it if they are just friends (I know they aren’t in my gut), because it hits different to me.

There was another thread going round on x about unpopular opinions on them. Ridiculous thread, some comments were downright ridiculous, homophobic ( coming from supposed supporters) and typical they broke up: have never been together: are just bros… blah blah. Again, from jikookers. However there were some good takes shouting back. Especially when it comes to MS.

The enlistment then hits harder. That is so damn loud. The only idols to ever use the buddy system. To me the whole laying low in 2023 makes sense in that context. We didn’t know about the show until after their enlistment had been secured. We saw them at Yoongis concert but that was fine bc he is a member, they were with Tae. They were in NY we didn’t know why, until we got that infamous back selca, we had nothing. Then boom, what followed a year ago in 10 days is something none of us saw coming. The fact they left everyone behind but each other, is loud. It’s so loud it’s hard tk believe it’s real. Again, to me in this scenario and with them being who they are, this was so meaningful. If they were ‘just friends’ why? There was no need. Especially seeing how again, from our perspective and the fandom at large they were distant in 23, didn’t see each other, then bam. They enlisted?

What in the world?

It should be lorded over, protected too, and shouted from the rooftops. But I know, like you said, it’s safer this way. For us who see it to protect them. To celebrate them quietly.

You see that's something that has always been striking to me.

The fact that Jimin or Jungkook have no trouble sharing some of their outings or interaction with other members but somehow when it comes to the two of them it's always a bit more "hush hush" meaning they don't really show it and we often have to learn it from other people.

Why the need for this kind of privacy if they are just friends? It's doesn't make sense.

It seems that their time together is something precious to them, something they cherish. You cherish the things you love.

So that's very telling.

Once again with enlistement it's everything we need to know.

To discuss that kind of commitment you have to see each other and communicate a lot, plan, think, talk. It's not a small things. So god knows how many times they have seen each other without anyone knowing.

The fact they don't really need us to know it shows it's not really about public image or their colleague realtionship. It was a deeply private and personal decision.

As I said before all of them are friends. They could have enlisted with anyone in the group, or alone, but they didn't.

It shows the strength and commitment to their relationship, which is obviously more deep that what's going on with the group and the public.

Honestly even if we were pretty sure about jikook since all these years for me there was still a bit of healthy skepticism you know like "maybe we're just...wrong?" 😂 but damn when the annoucement for enlistement came it just comfirmed everything in a very solid way. The way it all played out, it was clear that their feelings run deeper than simple friendship. It's way, way more. Because this is simply a huge decision to make.

And the way they talked about it in AYS "I'm not worried about us fighting" do you get the level of connexion to make a statement like this? Once again, huge.

Ah I simply have zero doubts in my mind. Like, they did everything, they told everything that show the amount of love and commitment they have for each other.

Fandom Problem #5423:

I am really, really, really, really tired of the way fandom handles queerness. It honestly all feels very patronizing. That it's inherently better, but moreover it's a fun character quirk to slap onto any character like a sticker, without any thought, that it's more of a selling point, a commodity, or a meme, a joke, a catchy slogan, a color-coded personality test, rather than a point of view or a lived experience. 'Cause even WHEN it is in the hands of fandom, not just relying on major studios and brands, it still manages to feel… corporate and lifeless. More "look at me and this good thing I can do" than anything with any actual thought or feeling.

I WANT to see good, queer stories handled with the love and attention they deserve, or hell to even just BE INTERESTING STORIES, not just ruining one good story by plucking apart of of the characters saying "actually they're super gay <3 sorry homophobes" and then sit back and wait for praised.

It doesn't have to be a battle or competition. I don't WANT there to be less of one type of character or romance to make room for another, I want MORE of ALL SORTS.

Obviously, this isn't even about ALL fandom, hell, do I even need to bring up how early Kirk x Spock shippers both kept the franchise afloat and even paved the way for modern fandom in many ways?

But something about it, in the past decade or so, has felt so fake and band-wagon-y.

I can count on one hand the number of stories that actually MOVED me because they focused more on the relationships between the characters and telling a good story with it, instead of "OH, and BY THE WAY, HATERS, WE'RE LIKE TOTALLY QUEER! SO DEAL WITH IT!"

AND I DO GET how tempting it is, to sort of want to show the oppressors that they didn't win and they couldn't stop you. I do! But, it shouldn't revolve MORE around them, than the good.

I WANT more stories that MOVE ME. But everything feels so stale and bland and stagnant instead.

guys I’m honestly happy that klance didn’t become canon because I love how as a collective group of people we utilize our right to explore what could have been and create the most smoking hot scenarios ever and yes I obviously wanted more of their friendship growing into this bond stronger than anything else in the universe especially since Voltron has teamwork and family as one of their main lessons but that’s more of a development issue all around…ok besides that there’s something about klance where it provides this PERFECT environment for shippers to inhabit and FEAST upon. With klance, there’s a solid, engaging dynamic between the two set up, which is this weird one-sided rivalry that stems from Lance’s insecurity and his need to prove himself of his worth and Keith literally being one of the best pilots for his age but since they’re flung into space and chosen to become child soldiers in this 10,000 year old intergalactic war so they have to work as a team which surprise surprise forces them to put aside their differences and work as a team which is shown a bunch when Keith needs to become a leader and Lance steps up as his right hand and and they have some kinda tender moments that won’t definitely drive shippers into a shipping craze (or worse) SO YEAH you could see why people loved it with all the classic tropes and mutual growth all that schmooze (ALSO THEY KNEW EACHOTHER BEFORE THE MAIN PLOT??? Well maybe not like friends or even acquaintances probably BUT HELLO?????? EVEN MORE SHIT TO EXPAND ON????), and they share multiple scenes that could be interpreted as romantic but there’s no explicit romance. This environment is fucking dripping drenched flash flooded cornered by 1000ft tsunamis in all directions with potential for shipping, so when people saw this relationship between two bros with this sort of homoerotic (IM JOKING. Kinda.) unresolved tension towards each other and the POTENTIAL for a good slow burn rivals to friends to lovers, it was to no one’s surprise that they went APESHIT. Klancers made countless different ways where they get together whether it be pre-Kerberos, post-gettingthefuckoutofearth, the start of the show, the end of the show, after the end of the show, right smack in the middle, anywhere, anytime, for who the fuck knows why just ANY REASON DAMN IT it doesn’t really matter because people were pumping out fanfiction or fan art or any fan media of klance faster than I spit out a raw baby carrot after chewing it for one second and now we’re all wallowing about how it should have been KICK but the thing is that if VLD did KICK all the way to Altea, the production of these beautiful stories that so many people have and still are coming up with about klance kissing in midst of a battle, helping each other with their crippling nightmares, smiling for the stars or some other sad premise, and whatever is nestled in his pulse…just like uhhh the amount of fics like these that go into great detail about Keith and Lance in these random situations that end up with them getting together being produced would go down to some degree because of the fact that if the people’s beloved sharpshooter and samurai had ended up together like we had wanted, and the majority was satisfied with the ending the creators had given, people would have shifted from writing about “How could Lance and Keith get together?” to writing about “What could Lance and Keith do now that they’re together?” And like. There’s nothing wrong with that honestly I would be HYPED if klance was ever canon but there is profound beauty in the way the community is able to create more from less and turn a show that went to shit in the last few seasons shine even brighter than it did at its prime. Like I wouldn’t trade my favorite fics 4 anything.

Ok another little thing I’m going to put here: With Klance, all I wanted was for them to be great friends 😭😭😭. I tend to prefer klance becoming canon in later seasons or at the end or even an open ending with no confirmed romantic relationships because I am a sucker for character development and the idea of Keith and Lance both harboring these feelings that at first are just admiration and respect but then escalate to yearning for one another or becoming close friends at the end of the show and getting to imagine anything I want post canon is EVERYTHING if you give me S7 Garrison klance I’ll keel over and thank you like I was a second away from dying of thirst and your gift was a truck load of water

it was true. the girl loved shopping. it was all she did. she would make the triplets go shopping with her everywhere. from clothes shops to food shops, you name it, she took them with her. it was mainly because she couldn't drive, but she couldn't deny that their company was really the selling point.

the triplets love for her was practically infinite so they would do anything she wanted. although many people assumed arielle would abuse that power and just drain them for everything they had, she did the exact opposite.

after they rose to youtube fame, she stuck with them through it all. through the hate and endless amounts of hours editing and filming, she helped them as much as she could. sure she wasn't in the videos, but she was always working behind the scenes, editing, getting sponsors, coming up with video ideas, helping manage their accounts, almost like a manager.

she didn't want any credit for it and she didn't make it known she helped them so much, she just generally loved being around them.

"okay, fine. no shopping." arielle flopped onto a chair.

"how about we go to dennys?" matt suggests, making their faces light up, giving him the indication that his plan was well liked.

the drive back was peaceful but lowkey kinda awkward, which was a first with the sturniolos.

it was probably because of who we bumped into. what i forgot to say was that amy and matt used to be very close. like girlfriend and boyfriend close.

until well, i came back.

i moved to california when i was 13 for 3 years, but i still talked to the triplets the whole time and i didn't really get closer to anyone.

me and matt were like the iconic duo, everyone knew that. people at school, their parents, nick and chris, their friends, teachers, literally everyone.

so when i left, everybody was in shock but of course, they didn't know i was coming back and it was only temporary.

whilst, i was gone, matt met amy and they really hit it off. i wasn't salty about it when chris mentioned it at first, it was when our 2 hour calls turned into 10 minute calls and every month meet ups turned into every six month meet ups.

until i came back, and then it was like everything was normal again.

we kind of just put it all to the back of us, wanting to forget about it all.

but i always felt slightly guilty that matt just dropped amy like that. i was told she wasnt the nicest of people but that didn't mean she deserved to be treated that way. i mean, ive been in that situation and it's painful.

we never talked about her when i came back, apart from when i asked alahna what happened and even she was light on details.

so like i said, we just brushed it off like it never happened.

"arielle!" nick bumps my arm, making me turn towards him and hum in question.

"we asked if you are okay?"

"yeah, i just spaced out for a second. thinking about work, it's really hectic at the moment." i was partially lying, which made me feel a little better, although knowing nick he'd end up finding out anyways.

"so glad we don't have to go to school anymore, honestly it was so draining." chris adds, still on his phone.

"i know, but it was also such a good time as well, especially towards the end."

"yeah, i kinda miss it sometimes."

"you weren't there for half of it." matt laughs, making feel slightly uncomfortable.

i still feel guilty to this day about me moving, but i can't change the past.

"yeah. well you didn't miss much." nick says, lightening the mood.

the car stops, indicating we had gotten to their house and i open the car door to get out.

"i haven't got my stuff guys." i remember, stopping in my tracks, making the guys look my way.

i need to stop looking into things, we used to do this all the time. why all of a sudden does it feel different? amy didn't affect me that much.

we walk into the house and up the stairs to the kitchen.

"now what do we do, no offence but im bored as hell." i sit down on the counter, reaching for an apple in the fruit bowl.

"we could watch a movie."

DISCLAIMER: DON’T TAKE THIS TOO SERIOUSLY PLEASEEEE IT’S LIGHTHEARTED!! Some of these things apply to me as well, and some don’t lol. Doesn’t necessarily apply to everyone it’s all just for giggles.

The Lokius shipper Series Fan:

- Usually younger Gen Z. Can be anywhere from 14 to 23 years old. They’re younger teenagers most of the time.

- Heavily on TikTok but also on Pinterest/Twitter.

- Got into the MCU/Loki more recently. Either from the Series, or from Ragnarok.

- For some reason, wholeheartedly believes that one Tumblr post from like ten years ago that states Loki is 16/17 in human years. Even though that’s not canon at all and it does not work like that.

- Favorite depiction of Loki tends to be the Variant/Ragnarok. Sometimes Avengers.

- Almost ALWAYS a fan of Good Omens or OFMD.

- Obviously… Ships Lokius.

- Very anti Sylvie/Sylki, but LOVES Mobius.

- EXTREMELY anti Thorki, even though not a lot of people ship them anymore.

- Spreads a lot of misinformation. Such as taking the fact that Marvel confirmed that the Scepter influenced Loki, and mistaking that with them 100% confirming the theory of Loki being brainwashed by Thanos.

- Thinks Loki’s eyes are green???

- Newer to fandom in general.

- Doesn’t talk a whole lot about the series outside of the ships/fanon discourse.

- Making Loki tree/Yggdrasil jokes CONSTANTLY.

- Either thinks that Loki before the series was completely evil, or an angel. No in between.

- “For you, for all of us 🥺” / “Your savior is here!”

- Often forgets/doesn’t remember the fact that Loki/OG Loki are two different characters, and groups them together.

- Either a Swiftie who likes to constantly joke about when Taylor and Tom dated for 3 months like 8 years ago and also associates a lot of her Songs/Lyrics with Loki, or is someone who has a bit more of an Alternative taste in Music/Fashion.

- Doesn’t really talk about Thor that much, or really wants him and Loki to reunite.

- They’ve probably seen other movies including Tom like Crimson Peak, Skull Island, and High Rise. The more popular ones.

- Owns a lot of TVA related merch.

- “He’s not Odin’s son, or Laufey’s son… He’s Frigga’s son 🥺” or insists on calling Loki by “Laufeyson.”

- In Fanon, sort of treats Loki as a very normal, modern human, and not a god from an entirely different realm.

- Has either dropped the Series/their love of Loki a few months after the Series ended for the “next best thing”, or is currently still raving about all of it.

- Quite immature about other’s opinions/perspectives on Loki/or even people who ship the opposite ship from their own. This is mainly because they’re younger or because they really like their Fanon idea of Loki/Which ship should be Canon.

- Has some questionable headcanons/opinions of their own on Loki.

- Loves Frigga.

- Hates Odin.

The OG Loki fan who’s been a fan of him since 2011/2012, but is a bit more casual about his characterization:

- Usually a Millennial/in their late twenties or mid thirties. May even be in their fourties.

- Has been here for a good while, and saw just about every movie featuring him as well as other MCU movies in the theater when they first came out. Was probably a younger adult/older teenager when Avengers came out.

- Fanfic writer!!

- Favorite depiction of Loki tends to be Ragnarok, TDW, or Avengers.

- Mainly reside on Tumblr/AO3 but also on Twitter from time to time.

- “The Sun will shine on us again.” / “Love is a Dagger.”

The Loki purist/“He’s literally me” Fan:

- Anywhere from 16 - 28 years old. May be a bit older than that. Usually Mid/Older Gen Z, or younger Millennial.

- Has either grown up loving Loki, or became a fan a bit more recently.

- Favorite depiction of Loki tends to be TDW, but obviously can be any of the three OG depictions of him.

- LIVES on Tumblr. A bit of an extinct species elsewhere, but some may also be on Twitter.

- #1 Loki defenders. Very protective of/sensitive about how he is depicted not only in Canon, but also in Fanon. Usually deemed as harsh by series fans/non series haters whenever they criticize the Series or Ragnarok, but in reality, deeply relates to Loki and takes it very personally when he is depicted inaccurately. They see themselves in him, and are so, so, SO tired of seeing him mischaracterized. But also can be genuinely harsh at times. I’ve been guilty of that.

- Either heavily believes the “Thanos Brainwashed Loki” theory, or completely rejects it.

- “I never wanted the Throne. I only ever wanted to be your Equal.” / “Trust my Rage.”

- Very creative. Creates Art of Loki, Fanfics, Edits, Cosplays him, etc…

- Sometimes weirdly resembles him in ways??? LOL. Taking “He’s literally me” literally

- Has a more Alternative taste in Music, Fashion, Aesthetics, etc..

- They either see Loki as their bff, their life partner, or as an enigma to observe. Or all of the above.

- Pretty into Norse Myth, and likes incorporating aspects of it creatively, or when talking about Loki.

- Has a good amount of Fandom experience, and does not tend to argue with other Loki purists/OG Loki fans over petty things. Because at the end of the day… it’s just Tumblr. And we usually all have a common middle ground. Or, is constantly arguing with others.

- They don’t really ship Loki with anyone, but if they do… it’s usually Sigyn or Thor. Or someone really random.

- Either really enjoys depicting Loki in a more Feminine/Neutral form, and wishes his fluidity was depicted in the MCU, or doesn’t talk about it all that much.

- Single handedly keeping the memory of Loki (prior to Ragnarok) alive. 🫡

The… Male MCU casual/dudebro who strictly lives on TikTok/Instagram/Twitter and did not really like Loki that much until the Series finale came out and thinks Loki is a Sigma Male who dropped everything in order for his friends and his… “Girl” to live:

Well. The answer depends on how willing you are to read into subtext. If you’re the type who only cares about extremely explicit gayness to the degree of them literally saying it out loud or to have their relationship with another woman described in text as a relationship, then I guess the answer would be not that gay. There’s Tomimi who professes her love to Gavial in The Great Chief Returns event, and there’s Scavenger whose operator file describes how she was in love with a woman but they got separated, and by the time she was able to return to her her partner was dead. I think that might actually be it from the “turn to the camera and say ‘I’m gay’” level of gayness.

The reality of Arknights is that, despite all the things it does well (and there are seriously a lot of those, that’s why I’ve become kind of obsessed with it for better or worse), it is still a gacha game. And when the profitability of a game is tied directly to how much you can convince your audience to spend money to get the characters they want, it unfortunately makes them make so frustrating decisions to avoid any potential loss of profits. Specifically I’m referring to how characters are not allowed to be in relationships in text, as self-shippers are a potential revenue source (despite the fact that a character having a girlfriend vs a character being single is a much smaller roadblock to dating then the fact that they’re not real). Also it suffers from the very common problem of lack of body diversity and skin colors, fanart that you see that seems otherwise is likely fanon.

But if you like queer subtext, there’s quite a lot to work with. Especially since so many characters and their relationships with each other lend really well to lesbian readings with fascinating dynamics. Women will straight up flirt with each other in text somewhat frequently depending on the characters. Some women have relationships that are really really hard to read as anything other than lesbian (but people will always find a way, usually by not reading in the first place). It very often turns into a “there is no heterosexual explanation for this” situation. And the important thing to know is that ~80% of the characters are women, a lot of whom are very real characters with stories and everything that is well written and respecting of them (with a few exceptions). The majority of their interactions are with other female characters. If you’re picky about it any only want heavy subtext with minimal reading into it, you’ll have a number of good options of characters and relationships to enjoy, like Margaret Nearl and her two very obviously girlfriends/wives (depending on your interpretation), or Skadi and Specter, or Franka and Liskarm who got an official manhua dedicated to their relationship as mercenary partners that was so gay that the scanlators who put it on mangadex tagged it “Girls’ Love” only for the official translation to make it gayer.

It really is a your mileage may vary situation. If you’re like me and can read into the potential yuri in even the slightest interaction, it’s an unending feast. But if you’re only in it for the explicit canon then you might want to look for something else. Regardless, it is a gacha game but also it is a game with a majority female cast of usually well written characters in stories where they are the focus. Seriously, the first like 6 chapters of the main story only have a few men, most of whom are nameless npcs or antagonists, and even the main antagonists get to be fascinating women a large portion of the time. I know it might sound like I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel here but misogyny is an extremely present force in storytelling and the bar is really low. I can elaborate more if you want me to, but as you can probably tell I’m not good at being succinct, and any further elaboration would be as long and rambly as this

so sorry you've been getting these anons ana :( i thought as a native i could give my two cents on the fire lady katara trope? ill admit im more of a casual zutara shipper, so i havent seen a good chunk of the fandom, but ill give it my thoughts. for me personally, i am not a fan of fire lady katara- it's not particularly to do with the trope itself, but the execution often done by the fandom. ive discussed this with other natives before, but sometimes in the fire lady trope, it is often that katara moves to the fire nation, that she wears fire nation clothes and is surrounded by fire nation culture. obviously, that isn't wrong! the sharing of culture is a beautiful thing, but there is a good majority of fics where it feels like her water tribe culture is forgotten, that she is made to move permanently to the fire nation in favour of zuko. specifically in a post war climate, where a good majority of the people in the fire nation would still hold onto imperialist and racist beliefs, the idea of katara living there permanently is uncomfortable. i moved out of my mostly native village into a nearly fully white uni, and it's scary, and so when i apply those thoughts to katara living in the fire nation, its uncomfortable. and as for the rest, it's mainly just how sometimes it feels like the fandom doesn't value her culture as much as zukos, even unconsciously- it often feels like the fandom values the perceived glamour and power of the fire nation royalty, and finds fire nation culture more understandable than anything water tribe, and so prefer to have katara in a setting that is more 'easy' for them. in hand with this, is often the fandom perception that the water tribe is less progressive than the fire nation, that they are sexist and that zuko is giving katara a better life (i will say that this is not something i have not seen often, especially recently, but it is something i have discussed w people so i thought id mention it, especially since its usually not intentional). sorry this got so long, i went on a bit of a ramble but obviously this isn't the be all end all. like you said, there are lots of people who are fine, or enjoy fire lady katara because they perceive or write it differently, and that is fine! everyone perceives media differently, just like some people will be uncomfortable with zutara, some might not be. i just thought id send this as a reason why some of us do dislike the trope, and things to keep in mind when ppl are writing it

i definitely agree that the fire lady katara trope can be executed in some exceedingly problematic ways. there are many zutara fics that i've clicked out of for the reasons that you've mentioned, especially older ones that were written around when the show aired or shortly after. i won't deny at all that there are ways people write the zutara relationship that make me profoundly uncomfortable. my problem arises when someone assumes that the trope itself is inherently racist or wrong, instead of understanding that it can be written in a variety of ways by a variety of people, who bring their own perspectives - and prejudices - to their individual portrayals.

what you said about moving from your mostly native village to a fully white university really struck a chord with me because (although it's not the same, and can never be) i can really sympathize with those feelings of alienation and sudden lack of belonging. i'm part of the desi diaspora myself, and i've grown up in a country where i've always been the minority, and had to deal with racism and ignorance, so your experience really spoke to me. i hope that doesn't come across like i'm trying to co-opt your struggle or anything like that, because that was not my intention at all. i just wanted to let you know that i can understand what a scary feeling it is, even if not exactly in the same way.

that being said, personally if i could choose between spending my life in india or growing up overseas, i would still choose to do the latter even if it meant living through the bigotry and ostracization i've experienced again. i love the life i've built here, though it's a more difficult one than what i could've led back home.

in the context of atla, i agree that katara would most likely face racism and discrimination in the fire nation, at least in the immediate years following the war. but personally i also find a very empowering narrative in seeing her confront and dismantle the prejudices within the fire nation system, just as she did with the sexism of the northern water tribe. katara wouldn't abide bigotry in any form, and i think fighting inequality is a battle that she would want to take on, and would willingly choose to take on whether she ended up with zuko or not. that's why i take issue with the insistence that her becoming queen of the fire nation inherently equates to her victimization, because it can also very much be a power fantasy, and i know many woc who do see it as such.

(of course, that is just my own perspective, and i completely understand why others see it differently and might not be comfortable with it. their feelings are just as valid and legitimate.)

ultimately, i think correctly executing the fire lady katara trope isn't just about katara herself valuing her culture, but zuko doing it as well. i love seeing explorations of the trope (and the zutara relationship in general) where zuko takes an active interest in katara's heritage, incorporates her traditions and practices into his own life and home, and involves himself in her culture just as much as she involves herself in his. zutara is a ship that has always been about equality to me, and that's something that can and should carry over to how they blend their cultures together. like you said, there is nothing wrong in katara wearing fire nation clothes, or being surrounded by fire nation culture - so long as she isn't the only one in the relationship taking an interest in her partner's heritage. thankfully, in most zutara content i've seen, she isn't.

in my own personal view of katara becoming fire lady, it happens only years after the war ends. she spends her time postwar travelling the world and kicking ass, empowering women in the north to learn waterbending, rebuilding the southern water tribe, meeting and learning from everyone she can. when she becomes fire lady, she continues to travel often - home, of course, but also to the other nations when necessary, using her skill of inspiring and motivating others, and her desire to help the less fortunate, in matters of international diplomacy. when she returns, her husband is in blue, and her children wear whalebone beads in their hair, and there are fire flakes next to stewed sea prunes on her dining table. there are hard times, but there is also love and respect, and so she changes the world as she damn well deserved to in canon.

I'm flattered you're asking for my opinion.🙃 I chose not to check out the post you described (turns out I already have that blog blocked, for good reasons I think.😂), because I really don't want to waste my energy on B/ler bs. I see red every now and then, but it's best for my mental health to ignore them as much as possible. Thankfully blocking tags/content/blogs works quite well here (though sadly there are loop holes of course). Not allowing anonymous questions helps too.

BUT I can offer a *little psychological analysis of the dominant B/ler culture on here. *Sits down by the fire place and plucks lyre*

*This got waaaay longer than planned, so get comfy, lol.😆 Turned into my manifesto or something. So might as well give it a fancy title.✨

B/ler Shippers And Narcissism

As we know, every Tumblr fandom has its fanon ships, and sometimes those ships become a mass phenomenon (usually it's m/m ships, though sometimes it's also other ships that become huge, like Zutara from ATLA for example). Sociologists, where are you? It's such an interesting phenomenon, especially the demographics of it.

ANY way, I never was as directly involved in and impacted by a ship war as much as in the ST fandom, so I can't compare. But one very disturbing thing I noticed within the B/ler fandom, is the amount of narcissism I see.

Now this is the moment for my disclaimer, because I don't want to generalise. I'm sure there are normal, nice B/ler shippers, but those stay out of the Mileven tag. I don't know how the algorithm of the "For you" suggestions works, but in my experience (and from what I heard also of others), engaging with ANY ST-content will fill it with B/ler posts. Which is why I stay out of there, and the same counts for any ST tag, tbh. And the vast majority of all those B/ler posts were full of Mileven hate, Mike hate, and even Eleven hate.

That's why I want to be clear that I'm talking about the B/ler fandom as I've experienced it. Take that with a grain of salt and don't come "Not ALL B/lers!"-ing at me.😂

Okay, with that out of the way, let's start. The way I see it, there are two ways of shipping B/ler:

1) You start watching the show. You like Will and Mike. You see that they are close friends. You romanticise their relationship (encouraged by Will's hinted at homosexuality in early seasons, or not). You create your fanon version of Mike, who loves Will back. You enjoy your fanon and prefer it over canon. The end.

There's obviously nothing wrong with that and that's the blueprint for most of fanon. I have my fanon ships too, or characters that I like, while I dislike canon or the whole franchise. But the thing with B/ler is that the majority of fans seem to have caught rabies. For them, it's more like this:

2) You start watching the show. You like Will. You see that Will is close friends with Mike. You romanticise their relationship (encouraged by Will's hinted at homosexuality in early seasons, or not). You create your fanon version of Mike, who loves Will back. You think your fanon is canon. You preach it and call yourself a "truther". You try to convert other people. You bully Mileven shippers. You hate Mike, but want him to be together with Will. You drag the actors into your fanon.

This type of B/ler shipper is remarkably like a narcissist (in an abusive relationship, or a cult leader, or megalomaniac politician. The world is full of them.)

We got:

Delusion

"Mike is gay and in love with Will 100%." Fact remains that there is not even a hint for this in the show, nor writer/actor/director hints. To claim that the exact opposite is true, is a complete rejection of canon and replacing it with fanon.

Inability to doubt and self-reflect

When someone refuses to admit an external reality, it's because they can't deal with their internal reality. Like for many of us, their ship has a deep personal meaning to them and they are attached to it. But they are incapable of even entertaining the thought that Will and Mike might not end up together in s5. Let alone that Mike is actually not in love with Will, nor ever was. Letting in that doubt would be too painful. It would mean that they were wrong. They would feel ashamed. They would feel betrayed.

Now I would say that I'm 99% sure that Mileven will be endgame, but I leave room for that 1% of doubt, because I simply don't know. I haven't read the script of s5. I haven't written it. I don't control the writers and runners of the show. I am human and I can err in my expectations and assumptions about others and their actions. We all do, but some people just can't deal with this truth, so they completely disconnect from it, and just act like they can't be wrong.

Hostility/Polarisation

Since upholding the delusion of a B/ler reality is EVERYTHING, people who doubt or negate it, are a menace. They need to be controlled. How do we do this? By shaming them, of course. B/lers mostly draw from the scapegoating palette of the universal abuser's tool box:

-Name calling (M/lkvan, and I've seen others) -Accusations/Gaslighting -Provocation -Criticism -Slander/gossip -Mockery/humiliation -Personal attacks -Invasion/hijacking of personal space (coughthemileventagcough)

By doing that, they have achieved to drive a great amount of Mileven shippers from Tumblr (I don't blame those who left at all). That way, the voices who are opposing their delusion become less and less, which is how they think things should be.

Contradictions/Making No Sense

Another thing that is true for all narcissists, is that they create an Upside Down version of reality (pun not intended, but it's fitting).

Since they believe in a delusion, they obviously don't have logic on their side. They have to change the goal posts all the time (classic narcissist behaviour) and will argue that blue is red. We got a ton of examples for this:

-Some say they love Eleven. They say they are feminist. Contradiction: They use Eleven to "prove" their point. They say she's ugly and looks like a boy. They say she needs to be independent, which means to break up with Mike (???). They say she's stupid/other ableist insults. They patronise/infantilise her.

-The above-mentioned user said Mileven shippers don't appreciate Mike. Contradiction: B/lers make up the vast majority of Mike haters. They say he abuses Eleven. They say he abuses Will. They say he abuses Lucas and Dustin. They say he abuses Max. They make everything he ever said and did about how he secretly loves Will or how he secretly doesn't love Eleven. They aren't even able to see the character Mike as he exists in the show.

-Some say Mike babies Eleven. Contradiction: They also say Mike puts her on a pedestal.

-Some say to ship Mileven is homophobic. Contradiction: They fetishise Will and Mike. They objectify Mike and turn him into a trophy for Will.

-And of course: They say Mike loves Will. Contradiction: There's no evidence for this.

And then there is just plain insanity, like:

-The "When blue and yellow meet in the west"-part of the Russian code is actually about B/ler

-The colours of Mike's s5 sweater represent the bisexuality flag

-The light!!!!

-Once I saw a B/ler claim that a riddle from ST promo contained a hint about B/ler. I asked them for more info and checked it out. But when I told them that I thought there were other possible solutions to that riddle, they shut down and simply insisted that their interpretation was the only truth and they were being queerbaited.🫡

What I also find noteworthy is how above-mentioned user said that it's not just Mileven shippers who don't appreciate Mike, but also the GA - which I think stands for general audience? Because that's another classic narcissistic move to puff up their ego - claiming that they are the only one who has some sort of deeper insight into something or someone. It's not just arrogant, it's another wonderful upside down example, because the truth is that they don't even have a basic, superficial understanding of reality (like I said, that can't see Mike).

Projection/Gaslighting

Everyone does a bit of this, especially insecure people. But since this type of B/ler shipper we're talking about, is extremely insecure AND isn't capable of self-awareness, it runs rampant.

To project onto someone means to place feelings, behaviours, or attitudes onto them which you hold yourself (good, bad, neutral). Gaslighting is a form of projecting, which means to accuse someone of your own flaws and wrongdoings, in order to undermine their status/credibility and make them question their own perception/reality.

I already listed this among the shaming tactics, but wanted to point it out in particular, because it's so fitting to what you described. Saying that Mileven shippers and the GA don't appreciate Mike (probably because they don't understand him?) is such a perfect example of projecting AND gaslighting. Because, like I said, no one hates Mike Wheeler like the majority of B/ler shippers, lol.

So saying this serves so many purposes:

-Distracting from B/ler hate of Mike -Discrediting Mileven shippers to other B/ler shippers and possibly non-shippers -Shaming Mileven shippers who read the post -Possibly converting non-shippers and Mileven shippers (haven't read the post, but this definitely happens too) -Setting up B/ler shippers as some sort of "chosen group" that has exclusive insight into Mike's character (the irony!).🤣😂🤣

I mean, again, I didn't read the post, but to me it sounds quite like a little dictator right there.😆 Yes, it's "only" shipping, but it's definitely toxic and purposefully hateful as hell. And after all a fandom is like a mini-society. A group of people who inhabit the same social space.

So, in conclusion - the more I see and hear of B/ler shippers, the more I become convinced that this ship attracts mainly narcissistic and otherwise toxic people, who need a delusion to cling to and an excuse to abuse others. I didn't want to say it before, because it seems incredible for something as harmless as a fictional ship, and like I said, I don't want to generalise or demonise people. But the glass is full and this was the last drop.😬 My experience of 95% of B/ler shippers is as described above, and it is what it is. Someone needed to say it.

You know who else bullies link? oot ganondorf's actor. Irl he's actually in super good relations with every cast member and probably the warmest kindest most solid dude you'll ever meet but in every interview, every red carpet, every con event he always pretends like oot link is a nuisance and that he's only doing this because he's getting paid. When the Wind waker releases, he's obviously cast again (because duh, same ganondorf, so he's also in the Twilight Princess movie), and he takes care of link and tetra very well on set and makes sure they're always comfortable as child actors, all while he acts to be this super evil guy on camera. I love this duality, I feel like he would be so chill to talk to

In a way, I feel like the major cast from the franchise all know each other one way or another whether they're friends or just professional colleagues, they all relate to each other in some way. There's always a playful competition between botw and ss zelink actors on which pairing is the best, tp link's actor always jokingly disses wind waker for its seemingly childish approach while ww link insists his movie has the better soundtrack.

D.A. OCS that i probably will use in drabbles or already have (evil scientists and doctors and living weapons oh my!) (not all inclusive of my ocs in this! just the important ones.)

- koi. he’s my favorite. previously thought to be a normal human dude but then the d.a. was like hi dude. cmere. and they kind of magic infused him. that happened. turns out he’s not human and that fucked it up. man you had one job. anyways he escaped and now he’s kind of struggling. his mental health is like absolutely awful and he’s extremely self destructive ❤️ will actively throw himself into dangerous situations just because he thinks he doesn’t deserve better (character blog @sonadowfan66 . yeah. he’s a sonadow shipper.)

- vian. doctor guy. head of medical department in the d.a. . makes his own medicines and distributes them across the department. nobody knows how the fuck he’s testing them since he’s not authorized to use living subjects but like. they work. so they kind of just assume he’s really smart and knows what he’s doing. he’s constantly under a lot of pressure and will try to convince you he’s perfectly composed and completely perfect and has zero flaws whatsoever. internally he is constantly crashing out. very rageful. also extremely manipulative and used to getting his way. - tbr. guy who runs the d.a. he’s also a rabbit but that’s not important. he’s also a politician. that tells you a lot about him i think. childhood dream was to be an astronomer but obviously that didn’t work out. backup was to be a scientist. obviously that didn’t work out either. so he’s here now. guy had good intentions and sort of still does but it’s very much become an “ends justify the means” sort of thing where it has become a blurred line if the ends are even still justifying the means. he tries but he kind of sucks a lot. - zee! in a few different departments. roboticist. doesn’t trust tbr but likes the resources the d.a. grants to them. by no means is she ethically superior by the way they have committed absolute atrocities. also he fucking hates vian with a burning passion. like vian’s done absolutely nothing personal to them but they just Need him dead and honestly i respect her for that. also working on a project i can’t say much about here due to lurkers (ray) but… shit happens! - elva. “adoptive” daughter of tbr. by adoptive i mean she was never really viewed as his child but more something to shape and train. living weapon but based on more raw magical ability rather than the alteration shit they were doing with koi. she’s highly skilled in combat but her magical stamina is weaker than average so that kind of caused issues. eventually decided “fuck this guy” and just left. one of the only people to successfully leave the d.a. she lives in the woods now but still does bounty hunting jobs for them on occasion. it’s on her terms though and she makes sure they pay her ridiculously well. major threat to tbr but as long as she’s minding her own business he’s letting her be.

- octavia. adoptive daughter of tbr WITHOUT the quotations this time. favoritism is very obvious. she lacks any magical capabilities but she is kind of a geek so. yeah. she comes off as pretty aloof when in reality she just sucks at communicating with people and any attempts to come off as strained or unwelcoming. friends with zee, who is probably actually one of her only friends. people don’t like her because of her dad and like. fair but leave her out of it. also she really likes vampires.

- maizaya. octavia’s girlfriend. does not know about the d.a. or anything along those lines since she’s not in the wonderrealm and just assumes octavia’s bunny ears are normal and totally human of her. she’s very bubbly and crafty. in terms of energy levels they’re kind of on opposite scales but it meshes well because she can just talk a lot and octavia’s fine with listening. she also loves making accessories and stuff and is very into fashion and art. also getting ominous threatening notes. she’s trying to ignore them but it’s getting worse.

- ophelia. the one LEAVING the ominous threatening notes. decently high ranked mageologist (magical researcher) in the d.a. does not like octavia because she thinks she sucks and doesn’t work for anything she’s been given. extremely petty but hardworking. doesn’t really have too strong of a moral compass. doesn’t like being part of the d.a. but like. she’s here and her wife is too so… yeah. originally just wanted to get maizaya to break up with octavia as a way to get to her but when she actually stayed she kind of just grew increasingly more pissed off to the point of threats and stalking. it escalates from there. normal way to handle things guys!

- astir. he’s not really relevant at all besides like a tiny bit in koi’s storyline but i just really like him. he comes from a pretty well off and well known family (old money) and has like zero life skills because his parents have actively prevented him from learning anything that could mean he could live independently from their wealth. yay! also his parents have done a lot of messed up shit to keep their status so id love for him to face consequences for their actions. extremely closeted homosexual. very anxious and high-strung. kind of a little obsessed with koi but in a conspiracy theorist way. thinks he’s an alien and isn’t wrong but still dude what the hell. after his disappearance he kind of began going full on detective. they spoke to each other like once btw. when they were like preteens. get a grip dude.

- rosé. kind of a god, kind of not. it’s complicated but i’d consider him one. god of lust. sells love potions to piss off his ex. just over a century old. grew up in an evangelical cult. left cult, got into drag, then started dating a god. deeply regretted it. very bitter and lonely but also theatrical so it’s ok. he’s a little cruel but it’s mostly unintended. also a damn good cook. also he grew up in louisiana and still has a pretty heavy cajun/new orleans accent. - adonis. aforementioned god that guy dated. sucks a lot. god of lust, vanity, and beauty. either thinks he’s the best guy to ever live or is self wallowing. it cycles. like drastically. doesn’t understand pain or suffering so when his partner was like “ow turning into a god really hurts what the fuck :(“ he was kind of just like “stop bitchinf about it oh my god it’s not that bad” and that kind of got worse.

Vague posting. Classic. Also, I can confirm to you guys that the overlap between liking Kataang, liking Azula, and liking Zucest is (sadly for me) basically non-existent. I've met exactly three people that like all three of these, and even then they don't like them all equally.

A ton of Kataang fans I've met either don't like Azula at all or only like her in the sense of "she's a good villain", and the overwhelming majority of the fandom as a whole (not just Kataang) dislikes Zucest, so Kataang REALLY has nothing to do with either of these - especially since, again, out of the ten zucest shippers that exist, I've only met three that actually like Kataang as well.

There is a tendency from some Azula fans to hate on Zuko - so obviously these fans HATE zucest because duh, why would they ship their fave with a character they hate? Especially when a ton of Zucest fics either have them being codependent as hell (with Azula's life basically revolving around Zuko) or super abusive to each other and getting away with it?

Zucest is a very exclusive club of "When you like both Fire Siblings AND are a kinky bitch."

I can list to you guys a TON of fics that have both Zucest and Zutara be a thing though. That was pretty common for quite some time and was how I became aware of most awful zutara tropes - one of these "overlap fics" was even a sequel to a (solely) zucest fic that was gifted to me by a former friend.

Would love to know how miss "I write Zuko being raped by Zhao then act like I get to throw stones from glass houses" would feel about beinglabelled as just the same as a Zucest shipper since there is a pattern of Zucest fics sometimes including Zutara (even if the reverse is usually not true) since she's perfectly comfortable acting like there's any overlap at all between Kataang and Zucest despite there being ZERO content overlaping these two ships.

Also, literally how the fuck does liking Zucest and/or Azula means you don't like KATARA having an identity of her own? What's next, liking Suki and Sokka together means I don't like Mai to have an identity of her own? She doesn't even go here!

This series is not unpredictable. As you read throughout the books, you see feyre with tamlin and then rhysand was introduced. It was obvious that she'd probably get with rhysand (and she did!!')

Nesta and Cas meet. It's obvious by the tension and banter they had that they would obviously get together!! and guess what?? THEY DID.

Same with Elain! Elain meets Az, its all simple and then as the books go on, it becomes something more. they are basically slow burn.

Like as you read this SIMPLE romantasy series, you can tell who's next. I dont know why people are being so dramatic and bringing out english majors 💀

Yah, I don’t feel bad either, especially knowing that the book is going to receive backlash and so will SJM no matter how good it is. It could be the next ACOMAF and people would still hate it cause it’s not their ship, which is a shame. People don’t have to read it if they don’t want to but the hate the Elriel book will bring will be crazy.

And look, I get it. Not everyone is going to like Elain, not everyone is going to like Elriel, there’s SJM couples I personally don’t vibe with and would have preferred with others but I could always tell who was endgame and who was being built up (key word here—built up) and just accepted it. I wasn’t out here trying to gaslight the fandom in no you’re wrong actually, Aelin should be with Dorian cause of example ABC (and Dorian and Aelin at least had interest and flirty scenes together)

And I get that people will naturally look for another option besides Elain and Elriel if they don’t like it. But that’s what Gwynriel is. People like Gwyn, she’s single, and she’s in the same vicinity as Azriel. That’s enough for some people because it’s not Elain, it’s not a ship they are excited for. So they create one they ARE excited for—which is fine, I’m not against people shipping anything. Could people have come naturally to a Gwynriel ship? Sure, you don't want Elriel together so you latch onto Gwyn because she's single, you like her, and she's...there and then you can go back thru the book to highlight things you think support what you want. I believe the majority of it stems from Elain hate on the Gwynriel side and poor bby Lulu on Elucien side who don’t like Elain mostly but want Lucien to get whatever he wants (which we could argue outside of instinct he doesn’t want Elain but alas) and being shippers of one naturally suits the other so they try to bolster the other in their forced interpretations.

The problem is the cherry picking, the twisting canon and narrative, being purposefully obtuse—at times even degrading the characters in the ship they want so bad (Azriel)— the insistence that Elriel is not happening and people just didn’t read closely enough or need fancy Lit Degrees to understand the nuance of Gwynriel when SJM has just never written her couples like that—-they have always been blatant in their interest either from their POV or other characters talking about observing them. And I mean blatant—Azriel looking at Gwyn cause she laughed and being slightly amused is not blatant, that is an interaction any two characters can have—-Elain and Azriel are observed to have a charged look between them, that’s blatant. Azriel had blushed for Elain, Elain has gone to fix her hair for Azriel—like it can’t be more in your face.

I could go on how in a post GoT media world people are too obsessed with theories and “figuring things out” and showing how smart they are by guessing plot twists and the like—-which yeah, can be fun but it’s gone beyond that to over examining every little thing to death and assuming every single sentence, word, action is up for interpretation when that is just not the case. Some writing can be like that—SJM is not.

As someone who has read books all my life—-I’ve never been wrong about intended love interests. (And guess what, I took higher level literature courses in college—am I legit now to comment on romantasy books???) There’s specific patterns and scenes for endgame couples that just wouldn’t happen if they were not IT and especially with SJM. Her couples have never shocked me. The twists in her stories have never shocked me. She is a very obvious writer—-for all the talk about crumbs and foreshadowing, I find that SJM is pretty straightforward. Sure, there’s things there to support the narrative, little hints, but it’s mostly obvious in your face.

So no, I don’t feel bad for the rude awakening antis are in for. I hope they still enjoy their ship but I can’t wait til we can finally put this shit to rest. I don’t think the fandom can ever go back to a pre-ACOSF state and I honestly think the ship war has done major damage to the fandom and SJM herself which is really sad to think about.

It makes so frustrated and upset that so much of the hotd fandom is already rushing to claim that the it’s not racist to combine rhaena and nettles. I really want the showrunners to feel the backlash cuz maybe they might change it? But no ofc not. The bootlickers and delulus are in full force defending everything these showrunners do. Let me tell you though, if Daeron would be cut, the world would have split in half.

Sadly Nettles has never been a very popular character. Even before HOTD a lot of fans have ignored her, her characterization, her race (people only like to admit she’s Black when it’s time to replace her with someone else), her importance in the Dance, her importance to Daemon, and the broader implications of her character in the ASOIAF universe.

Shes been working an uphill battle since 2013 because she’s a Black female character in a fantasy novel.

In the ASOIAF universe she’s further marginalized because she’s a non-Valyrian lowborn orphan. She survives a war (with her dragon) where many more beloved characters perish. Whether people want to admit to it or not(most obviously don’t), she has an extremely close relationship with a desirable male character.

A relationship that gets in the way of another more popular ship (which is really the source of most of these fans “beef” with her), but the fandom's treatment of her has worsened thanks to the show's fanbase. Thus we have arrived at this point where people actively want her cut and merged with Rhaena..…who she has absolutely nothing in common with.

All I’ll say to the people who think Nettles must be cut in order to prop up Missy Anne give Rhaena “something to do” is that it really does not have to be this way.

If there is room enough to makeup characters, include every other dragonseed/secondary character and expand on their arcs, there is room enough to include the only canonical surviving dragonseed. There is room to include the only Black dragonseed.* There is room to include the only female dragonseed and the only non-Valyrian dragonseed and expand on Rhaena’s preexisting book arc.

*It doesn’t matter if Alyn and Addam are Black now or that Baela and Rhaena(who aren’t even Black, they are mixed) are Black-ish now, Nettles is the only Black book canon character and she’d still be the only non-Valyrian dragonseed.

I cannot stress this enough, even in regards to show canon, there is no good reason to cut Nettles and give her arc to Rhaena.

There can be more than a handful of “Black” characters in the show. There isn’t a limit to how many “Black” female characters they can have. Rhaena doesn’t need to be ride into battle on dragonback to be cool, interesting, and worth character exploration. Nor does Nettles need to be sacrificed in order to “give Rhaena something to do.”

Just like how Helaena and Rhaenyra, Ulf and Hugh, and Addam and Alyn all exist despite sharing the same gender and racial background, so can Nettles and Rhaena.

Y’all can’t have one set of rules for yourselves and another for us. That’s not how this will go down and y’all won’t gaslight your way out of this.

It’s no surprise though that the showrunners seem to share the fandoms sentiments. Nettles unfortunately gets in the way of the narrative (fanfiction) they are trying to tell. They don’t care if she’s axed as opposed to a character like Daeron (who shouldn’t be axed either, but he isn’t more important than Nettles) because Rhaena exists and she’s Black-ish now too.

Rhaena is seen as the “safe option” that will appease shippers while at the same time won’t have the majority of Black fans(the racial group, not the team) calling them out for their blantant misogynoir.

She doesn’t break the status quo. She doesn’t get in the way of a dry wonder bread ship. She doesn’t make Missy Anne look bad. She’s not a threat.

The amount of times Black female characters continuously get the short end of the stick and get treated like human garbage thanks to the showrunners and racist fandoms boils my blood, but you can’t point that out because then you are making it into “a race thing” and you’re being “ungrateful,” blah blah blah

Honestly unless the fandom magically stops being racist(yes it is racism if you think Nettles and Rhaena are one and the same or that Nettles isn’t needed anymore since the show has a whopping five “Black” characters), GRRM talks some sense into Ryan, or Ryan realizes the value in Nettles, don’t expect much.

I’m remaining hopeful that they aren’t stupid enough to cut her, but it’s best to just not give this show any views(that’s the one thing we have control of and the show isn’t even good so it’s not like anyone is missing anything).

Thoughts and rambles on episode eight! Spoilers below the cut ^^

Alright. Now that I've had a moment to process how everything went down, I have some thoughts. I'm going to try not to write a 5 paragraph essay on the thing, but the one major thing I'd like to say is that the episode is visually phenomenal. Absolutely stunning. Blew my mind. However, it did feel a tad bit rushed.

Now obviously this is the episode where everything hits the fan and nobody really got to sit down and have a ten minute therapy session, but I'm kinda disappointed in how the character arcs were wrapped up. It kinda feels like this episode was a giant boss fight and then nothing else really. Happened. You know? Like the big bad is defeated and we're all happy now. Wich they absolutely deserve after going through that hellstorm, but a little elaboration would have been nice.

That aside though, there were lots of moments in the episode that I loved. Like the bit where N and Uzi were arguing in the spaceship and N said something along the lines of 'I'm so mad at you right now' but then they immediately hug each other and put the argument away for a moment when they weren't being chaced by giant space tentacles. I think this in itself is massive character growth for him, and communicating is key for a good relationship. Wich speaking of.

Nuzi is cannon! We got a confession. Loved that moment. I guess better late than never, right? And their dorky litte handshake mid boss fight? They both have a total of four braincells and they take the other two from their partner whenever one of them is in danger. I love it. Need more of that dynamic.

And V. I feel for V so much in this episode. The scene in the tunnel broke my heart. You cannot tell me that she dosen't at least feel a fondness for their time at the mannor because she was so sad but so relieved when she found out that he was ok. I want more of them so bad. Also I near shrieked with joy when she came in riding the sentinel like a total pro, that's probably one of my favorite little side bits.

Also I really feel for all of you Jessa shippers. I hoped on the Jessa train not too long ago myself, and I was really disappointed with the way they handled J. But at the same time, I think it's hilarious that she canonically died 3 times. Like. How did you even manage that. Even so, her character had a purpose, and I guess she served that purpose.

Also kind of disappointed that Thad, kahn and Lizzy were kind of just. There. But I did love the fact rhat lizzy and V's sentinel had beef from minute one. Girl cannot catch a break.

In all, I thought this episode was amazing. It definitely has it's flaws, but it's a strong episode and one of my favorites. It made me laugh, it tugged on my heartstrings, and it was a phenomenal end to a phenomenal show. So Liam, thank you for telling your story and bringing people together in only the way you knew how.

Obviously the reasons are many reasons for the shift to non canon ships I think a few of the main reasons are:

A bunch of Hinny fans and writers are the older generations and just don't have the time to write as much and they've written a bunch already and like mentioned in a few different ways have moved on to different fandoms and or just left all together.

This new generation is all about booktok (whatever the fuck that means) and tiktok in general. Also from what I've also noticed about the newer generation they just don't understand parenting like Molly and think she's awful. Which just makes them hate the Weasleys in general. Thus don't want Harry to end up with Ginny.

It also seems like there are a few different subsections of Hinny that don't seem to really interact and share each other. Whereas also like mentioned the Hermione and Drarry fans are all in one place.

Another factor is undoubtedly the movies altering peoples perceptions of the characters. They see Draco and they see Hermione and they see Snape automatically want to ship Harry with them based on appearances. It also doesn't help that the movies completely destroy the characters and give them important moments from other characters. And let's not even get started on movie Ginny. Poor Bonnie. You got done so dirty. I'll probably get a bunch of hate for it but honestly the only good movie Ginny moment is the added scene in HBP where she goes to fight Bella with Harry. I always loved her running out to fight with him with zero hesitation and the way they fought together so seamlessly. They also don't show all the worst moments from Snape and Draco. I don't know how you can read the books and make any excuse for Snape. I'll just never understand it. I don't know about you but if there was ANY chance at all the wrong person has been blamed for the death of the "SUPPOSED" love of your life I would make damn sure the responsible party was punished. Fuckin self absorbed man child.

I just love how the anti Ginny crowd who claims it was written horribly can then in the next breath pair him with Hermione. It honestly just screams you didn't understand all the nuances of the pairing. Also the series was not written as a romance. So the romantic feelings of the characters was NEVER going to be the major point of the series.

I hope I was able to make any sense at all in this ramble I'll never be able to write this as well as you and those other Hinny meta people out there but 🤷‍♂️
