but also i think part of me just wants there to be a clear villain in the situation. it’s kinda comforting to have a face to blame, a clear target to shake my fist at. but the truth is that the entire streaming industry is in the shitter. streaming is not pulling in the kind of profit that investors were promised, and we’re seeing the bubble that was propped up w investor money finally start to pop. studios aren’t leaving much room in their budgets for acquiring new properties, and they’re whittling down what they already have. especially w the strikes last year, they’re all penny pinching like hell. and that’s much a much harder thing to rage against than just one studio or one CEO being shitty. that’s disheartening in a way that’s much bigger and more frightening than if there was just one guy to blame.

my guess is that the truth of the situation is probably somewhere in the middle. wbd is following the same shitty pattern they’ve been following since the merger, and it’s just a hard time for anyone trying to get their story picked up by any studio. ofmd is just one of many shows that are unlucky enough to exist at this very unstable time for the tv/streaming industry.

when i think abt it that way, tho, i’m struck by how lucky we are that ofmd even got to exist at all. if the wbd merger had happened a year earlier, or if djenks and tw tried to pitch this show a year later, there’s no way this show would’ve been made. s1 was given the runtime and the creative freedom needed to tell the story the way the showrunners wanted to, and the final product benefited from it so much that it became a huge hit from sheer gay word of mouth. and for all the imperfections with s2—the shorter episode order, the hard 30 minute per episode limit, the last-minute script changes, the finale a butchered mess of the intended creative vision—the team behind ofmd managed to tell a beautiful story despite the uphill battle they undoubtedly were up against. they ended the season with the main characters in a happy place. ed and stede are together, and our last shot of ed isn’t of him sobbing uncontrollably (like i rlly can’t stress enough how much i would have never been able to acknowledge the existence of this show again if s1 was all we got)

like. y’all. we were this close to a world where ofmd never got to exist. for me, at least, the pain of an undue cancellation is worth getting to have this story at all. so rather than taking my comfort in the form of righteous anger at david zaslav or at wbd or at the entire streaming industry as a whole, i’m trying to focus on how lucky i am to get to have the show in the first place.

bc really, even as i’m reeling in grief to know this is the end of the road for ofmd, a part of me still can’t quite wrap my head around that this show is real. a queer romcom about middle-aged men, a rejection of washboard abs and facetuned beauty standards, a masterful deconstruction and criticism of toxic masculinity, well-written female characters who get to shine despite being in a show that is primarily about manhood and masculinity, diverse characters whose stories never center around oppression and bigotry, a casually nonbinary character, violent revenge fantasies against oppressors that are cathartic but at the same time are not what brings the characters healing and joy, a queer found family, a strong theme of anti colonialism throughout the entire show. a diverse writers room that got to use their perspectives and experiences to inform the story. the fact that above all else, this show is about the love story between ed and stede, which means the character arcs, the thoughts, the feelings, the motivations, the backstories, and everything else that make up the characters of ed and stede are given the most focus and the most care.

bc there rlly aren’t a lot of shows where a character like stede—a flamboyant and overtly gay middle-aged man who abandoned his family to live his life authentically—gets to be the main character of a romcom, gets to be the hero who the show is rooting for.

and god, there definitely aren’t a lot of shows where a character like ed—a queer indigenous man who is famous, successful, hyper-competent, who feels trapped by rigid standards of toxic hypermasculinity, who yearns for softness and gentleness and genuine interpersonal connection and vulnerability, whose mental health struggles and suicidal intentions are given such a huge degree of attention and delicate care in their depiction, who messes up and hurts people when he’s in pain but who the show is still endlessly sympathetic towards—gets to exist at all, much less as the romantic lead and the second protagonist of the show.

so fuck the studios, fuck capitalism, fuck everything that brought the show to an end before the story was told all the way through. because the forces that are keeping s3 from being made are the same forces that would’ve seen the entire show canceled before it even began. s3 is canceled, and s2 suffered from studio meddling, but we still won. we got to have this show. we got to have these characters. there’s been so much working against this show from the very beginning but here we are, two years later, lives changed bc despite all odds, ofmd exists. they can’t take that away from us. they can’t make us stop talking abt or stop caring abt this show. i’m gonna be a fan of this show til the day i die, and the studios hate that. they hate that we care about things that don’t fit into their business strategy, they hate that not everyone will blindly consume endless IP reboots and spin-offs and cheap reality tv.

I don't think it's wrong for people to be upset about this. I don't want their company to fail, I wish the best for them, but this move really does feel like a kick in the face to a lot of people.

$6 for a video a week, tops, is wild to me. I understand that they need more money to keep up production but this feels like the worst way to do that. i think i feel similarly. i am still processing and haven’t fully decided how i feel yet. both sides are right but the people being mean and cruel are the wrong ones which i really do hate to see some have stooped so low.

artists should be paid but loyal audiences shouldn’t be blindsided. i feel like a lot of decisions were made without us which sounds so selfish to say but the sentiment is there.

‘And cut!’ the director yells from her chair and the crew bursts into loud claps and cheers. 

Your co-star, Hal, looks at you, his lips swollen and his wavy hair mussed in a suggestive way, and his face splits into a huge grin. 

‘You were amazing!’ he gushes. 

You clutch the bedsheet around you tighter as you smile back at him. It doesn’t take your assistant long before she runs to you with a robe. 

Hal averts his eyes respectfully and waits for you to cover up. 

‘So were you!’ you reply with equal enthusiasm once you’re done. You talk to multiple crew members as you make your way to get dressed and tell them that you’ll see them tomorrow. 

The shoot has finally wrapped for the day (earlier than expected) and you’re excited to just spend a quiet night with Matty. 

‘So what’s your plan for the night?’ Hal catches up to you once you’re on your way to find your boyfriend. 

‘Oh hey,’ you smile, ‘my boyfriend’s on the set today so I’m just going home with him.’

RATING MY SONGS-CRUSHES

we all know conan gray right? ok great. well yk that one song “the cut that always bleeds”? or “heather”? those 2 songs remind me of my first ever crush from last year. who I changed myself to try and make like me, this crush only lasted for about 2-3 weeks and I ended up being rejected bc he had a girlfriend I didn’t know about. those songs remind me of him because I used to listen to them the 3 times I cried about him. it wasn’t a bad crush but I definitely needed to work on my standards. 3/10.

they clash in the sense that oswald will not communicate anything to gen at all… she doesn’t get him w/o him telling her anything, so it leaves her feeling scared and uncertain abt things.. and then genevieve willl clam up and stop telling him things out of that fear, which pushes him away, since a huge part of their relationship is him feeling at peace whenever she talks to him. it’s the only time he feels connected to someone :((

I think Steve is in my top 5 just because he’s a fun character and because I genuinely did enjoy the scoops ahoy part of s3. I would argue he IS a main character because I feel like for how long he’s been in the show it’s fair. But that doesn’t take away from the fact he is still kind of 1 dimensional with very limited layer compared to my babies Mike, Will, Max ,Lucas, hell even Dustin. I don’t think people enjoying his character or making him their favorite is a problem, but the trend we’ve been seeing with steddie and Steve / Eddie enjoyers being very rude to people who actually take a deeper look into the show gets rlly annoying. Ig I just don’t like to judge people based on their favs but rather their actual personality and blogs bc ik as a Mike main most people would hate me first glance, I just don’t want to do that to someone else.

you’re definitely allowed to enjoy steve, because he is a good character!! my criticism is of people who claim he’s the best character because of his writing

the main character/side character debate is something we can do all day, but in my opinion he isn’t a main character because the progression of his story doesn’t hinge on the main antagonistic force of the show. if the apocalypse never ended, steve could go forth with his life and complete his arc on his own. i think he’s a well developed side character, but he isn’t tied into the central plotline of the show like some of our other characters; he’s mostly there to help our main characters. i’d argue that will, mike, and el are our main characters because of how prominent they are in supernatural plots. when mike and will aren’t there, their absence is directly stated as an issue and we still get an entire season of screen time for them even when they’re doing virtually nothing to advance the plot.

i see what you’re saying, and i was definitely being aggressive and as a mike main i definitely get the feeling of being judged for it at first. i think everyone has a right to criticize each other’s choices as long as it isn’t being done to target someone who isn’t actually doing anything wrong and isn’t being done to anyone’s faces. of course there’s nothing really wrong with enjoying steve as a character, but i will criticize his popularity based on the fan base he’s gathered which tends to be people who don’t acknowledge the deeper aspects of the show. im not judging any one specific person and im not steve fans are bad, it’s just a critique of popular opinion based on my own observations. nobody who would be hurt or pissed off at that is likely going to see it, seeing as i didn’t put any tags on it. my tone was definitely aggressive, but again, there is no real harm in the critique of a harmless opinion as long as im not going out of my way to hurt those people

And also when someone has harsh transits coming up. I just don’t know. For example when astrologers say “this celebrity is prone to car accidents on that day” and then they do have a car accident. I then always wonder if it’s a manifestation of that conversation rather than the transit itself. Because that transit could manifest in 19272816277 ways but the repeated mentioning of car accident then might becames reality.

And whilst most of it is just speculation, when you give away your childs birthtime by the minute I think that will give these obsessive fans too much confidence.

Personally, I don’t think it’s that serious, but I also realize that I have a weird view on these things because of how I was raised and how this stuff was taught to me. I know this is a serious ask, but I have a Scorpio moon and that honestly made me giggle.

Even without knowing someone’s exact time of birth people are going to make generalizations and assumptions, based off things like body language, vocal inflections, or even what they look like. I completely agree that birth charts are personal, and can absolutely provide a deeper insight into someone, but at the end of the day, it’s all speculation, there is not definitive that should ever be taken away from a birth chart reading.

I’ll be one of the first people to tell you that someone’s chart doesn’t determine if they’re a good person or a shitty person capable of something like S.A., solely because people are more than what their birth charts indicate. I don’t put any merit into the astrologers who make specific claims like that when it comes to transits, because there is no way to tell from a planetary transit if someone is gonna crash their car, if that were possible then a hell of a lot more people would pay attention to astrology. Making those specific claims gets attention though, and when they’re right about something, it gets people talking and probably brings in lots of paying customers that want to know what danger they might face.

Unfortunately there is a market for those really specific readings, and I think people want more from astrology than what’s possible. I definitely try and be ethical about how I approach my readings, I’ll never speculate on people’s health and I refuse to delve into someone’s love life in specifics, but I know that there are people out there that will do that because it brings attention and it’s probably monetized.
