Something that amuses me between knitters and crocheters is this... almost humble nature each craft has about the other. I couldn't imagine how one would knit, and I know some of the basics - and yet, I have met so many knitters who say crochet is impossible, and yet I find it to be so simple. There's just something charming about when one recognizes just how much skill, effort, patience, and care go into a craft, and to be humbled by just how incredible human ingenuity and creativity are

So instead of trying to handsew a stretchy fabric and risk ending up with something I don't really like, I made a f/o beret ��️

It's not perfect, but also I'm still very new to crocheting. I've only really made a few small things and this is my first biggest crochet project

The first 'petals' are filled! Need to put a net-like stitch or some bars to hold the petals in place before buttonholing the cordonnet and (finally) trim the loose ends of this section.

Pic 3 bottom 'Fan': Not a formal stitch- just something I came up with on the spot. I just looped thread around the bottom center point, took it up over and behind the cordonnet between stitches, and brought it back down- No loop/knot at the top. Then repeated that again alternating sides until the space was full.

The most fulfilling thing about art (and why I'm so passionate about it as a concept) is just knowing that this is a piece of you entering this world and being born, and it's as imperfect, messy, and human as you are.

It's lumpy and not even whatsoever, but that came out of my hands. It is, essentially, not unlike a toddler who has just learned to walk with uneasy legs. Would you punish a toddler for toddling, for being unsteady and unrefined? Then why is it that we must punish ourselves for being in what is essentially that same state?
