To wrap things up? …I honestly have no idea how to feel about Rudolph's Shiny New Year.

Having watched it all, the experience is...

…well, it, it has a lot of…

…and then they– like, the tone is very–

…

…it's just sort of everything.

That's the best and worst thing about it. It's everything.

It's gorgeous. It's profoundly strange.

The miniatures, the stop-motion, it's all impeccable.

It's full of dozens of random elements you'll flash back to years later, and go "oh, yeah, that was a musical number."

There's a 2D-animated recap of the entire Rudolph story.

Inside the new movie. It's everything.

Tonally, then, it's left in a weird place where it doesn't feel particularly Christmassy… is there a "New Year's Eve animated special" mood?

Do you find yourself hankerin' to feel a little existential en nui with a caveman in early January? Maybe there's a bigger market than I realize.

As it stands? I think I respect Rudolph's Shiny New Year more than I want to watch it again.

…though come on, how could you not have pleasant feelings towards this ragtag band of incongruent weirdos.
