🌲🍄If you’ve been a passenger on this train for even a moment, you probably know that I have a deep insatiable fascination with folklore and fantasy. I am proud to say that I live under a rock concerning modern things, the fact I even have an “IG account” is quite remarkable considering I can barely work a cellphone. I like my little life with my little house and my little cats. I don’t get out very often but I do love farmers markets and thrift stores! My idea of a perfect day is a satchel full of cucumber and beet relish sandwiches, a walking stick and a thick forest to forage in. I also love collecting oddities, especially vintage decorations and anything with a troll, a gnome, a witch, an owl or a snail on it is an instant toe curler!🐌This right here is one of my favorites. It’s a Henning Troll mug by Way Nor Ais, and it’s one of the most magical items I currently posses. It’s finicky. Doesn’t like to be used for much. But it will let me know when it *does want to be involved. I usually keep a few acorns and toadstools in it when I’m not using it for something specific. It does not like to be empty but it also hates being full. A very temperamental teacup to say the least. But I love its spirit and the malevolent beings painted on it(and inside;)🍂Norwegian Trolls, also known as Huldrefolk, are believed to be shapeshifters. They can appear to look human except for their long tails they cleverly hide. A female Troll can take on the appearance of the most beautiful flower maiden and lure a man in with her entrancing songs~but if the human man resists her for long enough he will begin to see what she reeeeally looks like underneath the glamour. Mind you, there are many legends and many stories and one region will argue with the other on who is right and who is wrong but that’s part of the fun in learning about these mysterious beings. If we didn't brush our teeth, Karius and Baktus, two trolls that lived in our mouths, would begin to mine in our teeth for goodies. Scandinavian folklore has many troll tales and types. 🌲🍄A few months ago I took a dna test to see if there were any “surprises” that I didn’t know about. Well, finding out that I’m over 80% Scottish was definitely a surprise and a lovely one at that! Plus it just makes so much sense, considering all the things I love and am interested in. I also have blood ties in Norway, Ireland and the east coast of New England. When I say it makes sense, it’s because I’ve always had a deep fascination with anything dark and mysterious. I hated Disney cartoons as a child but could watch the Dark Crystal on repeat until the tape broke. I think this is also why I have always loved collecting old dolls and effigies, especially old witches and trolls. Now when I say trolls, I’m not talking about the neon haired dolls with plastic gems in their tummy, no. I mean the real authentic wart covered trolls straight from the old forests of Norway.🌲This particulate troll figure is one of my favorites, I just love her personality. Her name is Ylva which means female wolf in old Norse. She reminds me of an old wolf and I truly believe that she’s a shapeshifter and changes into a wolf on some nights because she will go missing for days on end then appear out of nowhere. She helps protect my home from harmful entities which has come in helpful more than twice! So weird! Just as I am writing this right now one of my cats walked up to her and staring chewing her hair and I’ve never seen her do that before! OooooOooooOooh!👻All silliness aside, I thought it was time I started sharing more about myself and the things I love vs. using this platform for my shop alone. I’ll try and make a nice mix of both!
