The Late Mrs. Willoughby (Mr. Darcy & Miss Tilney Mystery) by Claudia Gray #ARC #BookReview #NewBooks #JaneAusten
There's a new mystery featuring Jane Austen's characters' children. I thoroughly enjoyed #TheMurderofMrWickham, would it be the same for #TheLateMrsWilloughby #NetGalley #ARC #BookReview #Jane Austen #newbooks #MrDarcyandMissTilneyMystery #vikingbooks
Catherine and Henry Tilney of Northanger Abbey are not entirely pleased to be sending their eligible young daughter Juliet out into the world again: the last house party she attended, at the home of the Knightleys, involved a murder—which Juliet helped solve. Particularly concerning is that she intends to visit her new friend Marianne Brandon, who’s returned home to Devonshire shrouded in fresh…

Hi, Neil! I hope this reaches you as Good Omens has become a massive comfort for me in hard times and learning the answers to my burning questions would please me greatly.
My first question is, am I right to assume Crowley has a soft spot for children and goats? If so, why?
My second question is, what is Aziraphale’s favorite Jane Austen novel, what is yours, and what would Crowley’s be if he were ever to be inclined to read them?
My third question is, what is with Crowley’s fascination in watching Aziraphale eat?
Lastly, and this is the question that bugs me, Adam changed the universe so that his Earthly father has always been his real father and making it so that he was never Satan’s son. That would mean he was never the anti-Christ, so how does he still have powers (like burning away a bush so Dog would escape and he’d have to go after him)? Or did I completely misunderstand what happened at the end?
Thanks in advance!
1) because it's there in the dialogue
2) I don't know (my guess would be Persuasion). Mine is Northhanger Abbey.
3) good question
4) no, you didn't misunderstand the end at all.

I think people forget that, Jane Austen wrote satire and human interaction, not specifically romances.
The reason we conflate her with romance is due to the fact that marriage is an important topic in her books. Nowadays, a woman doesn't have to get married if she doesn't choose too, but back then? It was required. Single women had no rights unless they were extremely wealthy or a widower. Marriage was just...a normal thing to talk about and aspire too back then and most women wanted to marry a man they esteemed. But Miss Austen wrote more about humans, and characters and how they interacted, and these characters transcend time and space because of just how fantastic she was at capturing and observing people in her day to day life. Pride and Prejudice one could argue is a romance, but it's also a tale of...the title! The mistake of excepting things at face value and having unrelenting pride. Sense and Sensibility is story about two women who deal with life differently. Emma is about a spoiled, arrogant but good natured girl coming to terms with herself. It's also the story of an entire fictional town! Persuasion one could argue is just a full on romance. Mansfield Park is her weightiest novel, in that it's filled with very unlikeable characters who treat our protagonist very ill. It's less of a romance and more a story on the follies of being Gentry in this time period. Northhanger Abbey: A full on satire; a play on gothic novels that she read herself. I cannot get over her entire page of scathing wit about how her heroines read novels. Incredible piece of prose and my favorite.

my mom, who likes Jane Austen and is reading Northhanger Abbey, reccomended this book “Udolpho” that the main character likes. I was under the impression it was gothic horror but I’m watching the 2007 movie adaptation of Northahnger Abbey and Udolpho might just be a bodice ripper where a woman fucks a scary monk
